last couple of weeks of fieldwork happened but were filled with chaos that included a crew of interns, hiring nonsense, permitting nonsense, and extreme weather including both a record-breaking heat wave and thunderstorms. we were bouncing up and down the east side of the sierra (at one point we crossed the CA/NV border, like, six times over the span of two days because the mountains we were in were very precisely bisected by it.) the epic highs & lows of fieldwork included:
sampling in Death Valley National Park during the heat wave. this was actually less bad than when we were sampling across the way from Death Valley, because 8000 feet vs. 5000 feet of elevation is a very noticeable difference when it's over ninety degrees out.
we had a team of interns who were remarkably good sports and helped tide us over when our crew was briefly down to just 2 people!
i later found out that the interns had been, uh, maybe misled about how much work they'd be doing, which went a long way to explaining why they had a chronically exhausted air about them. that's academia for you i guess
got to see the ancient bristlecone pine forest on our days off!
ditched some gear in the field at one point bc i didn't feel like carrying a long metal thingy through an Active Thunderstorm while we were a couple hundred feet off a mountain peak
ditched our camp overnight bc didn't feel like taking the car back up a muddy road following an Active Thunderstorm, since the tires had real bad traction on mud
got told by a motel manager the night that we ditched camp that i? smell like pine? which. was not the worst thing. and makes sense given my constant layer of pine sap residue. but sure was an interaction that happened
got to swim in alpine lakes on our days off!
stopped taking my lunch breaks because it was the only way to even slightly keep up once our crew was back up to 4 people
and by 'keep up' i mean i was still consistently finishing 30 minutes behind the other
i don't. recommend this
a couple nights in various spots, we heard coyote packs yipping somewhere around our camp, which is a haunting and unexpectedly lovely experience. genuinely highly recommend waking up to the sound of coyotes at three a.m.

Description: Gilbert Blythe was born with a tuft of red hair sticking out from amidst his unruly dark curls... until the day it turned green. A Soulmate AU where everyone has a streak of hair that matches the color of their true love.
Author's Note: What originally was supposed to be 1500 words and 4 pages turned into this almost 8000 word 16 page monstrosity. One like is one prayer for my sanity.

Gilbert Blythe was born with a tuft of red hair sticking out from amidst his unruly dark curls.
He tried not to hate it, really he did. It signified something that everyone, including him, longed for more than anything else. Something that would bring ethereal happiness and love along with it.
But honestly did his soulmate have to have such an attention grabbing color of hair. And why did it have to be right by his face near his temple? A place where literally everyone could see it?
Why couldn’t it be somewhere else more discreet? He really didn’t like the fact that anyone, literally anyone, even strangers, could look at him and know what color hair his soulmate had just by walking past him on the street. It seemed like too private a detail for everyone to know.
It’s not that he hated the color, Gilbert adored it. He’d spent hours over the years twirling it between his fingers to study it in a mirror, memorizing every different colored strand that went into creating such a vibrant color.
All the dark auburns, strawberry blondes, and bright orange hues came to together to make something that rivaled the colors exploding over the horizon as the sun set each night.
The great thing that came with his soulmate having such a unique colored hair was that it narrowed the search down quite a bit. Unlike his soulmate, who unfortunately had a common plain black streak running amongst their hair, Gilbert had a streak of color that (according to the various textbooks he’d read) only occurred naturally within 4% of Earth’s population.
That along with the fact that he’d so meticulously studied the color his whole life made him sure that when he finally met his soulmate, when he finally laid eyes on the person he was destined to be with, he’d recognize them immediately and they could begin their life together.
If only it had been that simple.
When Gilbert came back from his trip to Alberta with his very ill father, the last thing on his mind was the person who adorned the hair sprouting from that odd spot on his scalp.
There were too many other things he had to think about regarding his future. So many in fact, that he walked almost all the way to school the following day in a trance just trying to sort through the jumble of thoughts tumbling around his mind.
What broke him out of his reverie was Billy’s taunting voice echoing through the crisp fall air of Avonlea. That along with the sound of his incessant and annoying barking peaked Gilbert’s interest.
He was able to faintly make out Billy’s figure in the near distance through the thickness of the forest. Gilbert approached apprehensively, not sure what to expect.
Billy Andrews turned around at the sound of his footsteps, crunching the dry leaves and dead branches that littered the path leading to school.
“How’s it going?” Gilbert asked, narrowing his eyes at the boy.
Billy averted his gaze and shifted his weight from foot to foot. “Hey Gilbert,” he mumbled in quiet response. It was silent for a moment, the only sound to be heard were the faint chirps of birds from the trees overhead.
“Yea it’s uh good to be back,” Gilbert said, though his attention was no longer on that of Billy Andrews.
His eyes went past him and landed a girl, a cute girl, one that wasn’t much younger than he was, and one he didn’t recognize.
One with red hair. One with red hair that seemed almost identical to the streak he adorned. One, that with closer examination and a startling realization, he noticed had a black chunk of hair twisting in and out of her left braid.
“Yea um,” Billy muttered, sounding really uncomfortable, “welcome back.”
Gilbert snapped his gaze away from the girl. He flashed Billy a thin lipped smile, not even bothering to make it seem convincing. “Yea, yea it’s good to see you buddy.” They shook hands, he grasping Billy’s harder than needed.
“So you guys playing a game or something. Right?” he asked, knowing very well that wasn’t what was happening, and Billy knew it too. This wasn’t the first time he’d caught Billy bullying an innocent. “Seems like fun but uh we should probably get to school now eh? Hate to be tardy, Mr. Philips sure gets a dander up about that.”
“Yea uh I was just about to get going,” Billy said. He began to walk backwards, away from him and the girl he had been bullying. “See you there.”  And with that he stumbled off.
Gilbert watched his retreating figure for a split second before turning his attention back to redheaded new girl. He gave her a brief once over, trying to figure out what to say while calming his ever increasing heartbeat.
“You alright Miss?” he asked, not able to take his eyes off her hair. It drew him in like a moth to a flame. A flame that despite his best efforts, Gilbert couldn’t look away from.
It had to be her. She had to be his soulmate.
Unfortunately enough for Gilbert however, the girl he believed might be his soulmate wasn’t nearly as entranced with him as he was with her.
She met his eyes for a brief moment, long enough for him to see that they were a brilliant blue. If anything else, the contrast made her hair seem even brighter a red.
She opened her mouth as if she were to speak, but instead she dropped down to the ground on her knees and began to pick up all of her things which were scattered around her feet.
“School,” she muttered, picking up her basket of lunch.
The girl stood up and brushed past Gilbert, not once taking a look at him. “You’re welcome,” he said, right as she passed him.
Gilbert wanted to raise an eyebrow at her behavior, but it would’ve been pointless because no one was around to see it.  “Need anything else?” he called out after her as she retreated further down the path to school. “Any dragons around here need slaying?”
“No!” she yelled back in response. “Thank you!”
He stopped in his tracks, scrunching his eyebrows together in confusion. “Hey!” he said loudly so she could hear him over the growing distance between them. “Who are you?” Gilbert held his breath while his heart skipped a beat, waiting for a response.
When it became clear she wasn’t going to stop and chat, he did the only thing that came to mind. He chased after her. “Miss! What’s your name?”
She still wouldn’t answer him, but Gilbert wasn’t one to give up easily, especially when it came to matters of importance. And this, this was important. For all he knew, the girl he was chasing after might be the one fate decided he was destined to be with.
And he couldn’t let an opportunity like that slip away.
“What?” he said with a light chuckle as he and the girl walked up the steps of the school house. “You can’t tell me your name?” Gilbert jogged a few steps ahead and opened the door, holding it open like the gentlemen he was raised to be and let her go in first.
The sound of chatter exploded around him as he stepped into the school house after the girl, closing the door shut behind them and taking off his hat.
All he wanted was a name. Could she not even give him that? It wasn’t like he asking her to tell him her biggest secret or whole life story.
Just as he was about to open his mouth and speak again, the girl turned to face Gilbert. And for the first time, he got a good look at her. Her eyes, her freckles, the shape of her upturned nose, and the stray red hairs that escaped her braids and fell into her face messily.
And most importantly, she got a good look at him. Her pink lips parted slightly as her eyes took his face in, and her pupils widened as they fell upon his hair.
Gilbert’s breath hitched in his throat. He could hear the beat of his heart in his ears as it hammered against his ribcage.
She met his gaze once more, looking a little apprehensive. A moment passed. They merely stared at each other, not saying a word.
She gave him a small smile. “I’m Anne.”
Gilbert smiled back and looked down at his feet, then up at her again. “I’m Gil-“
But before he could properly introduce himself, he was whisked away by a group of boys that unlike Anne, couldn’t look more excited to see him.
By the next afternoon, Gilbert was becoming more and more confused by the minute. He didn’t imagine it would be this hard to get his soulmate to talk to him. Or at least, a person who he thought was his soulmate.
He tried to talk to Anne, he even offered her an apple from the orchard, but all she did was ignore him, and Gilbert didn’t know why.
From all the stories he’d inadvertently heard over the years, meeting your soulmate was always described as some sort of fairytale love at first sight experience. Sparks were supposed to fly as your eyes met each other’s odd streak of hair for the first time while hearts stopped beating at the meeting of eyes.
It was supposed to be, well, simple.  And with Anne, it just wasn’t.
Maybe they weren’t soulmates after-all.
Sure Anne had a black streak running through her braid and fiery red hair that looked almost like his own odd streak, but there were a lot of people on Earth with black hair. And Anne might just be another person apart of the 4% of the population who has naturally red hair.
Maybe Gilbert was looking too hard. Maybe he was trying to force something that just wasn’t there. Maybe Anne coming to Avonlea of all the places in the world wasn’t fate. Maybe their meeting wasn’t fate either.
Maybe it was all just one huge coincidence.
But he could’ve sworn there was something there. Something almost tangible between them. An electric charge that intensified the air between them anytime their eyes met. A pull that made it almost impossible for Gilbert to be in the near vicinity of Anne without gazing at her in wonderment.
She was something alright, and it only took knowing her for a few hours to realize that. So he was gonna give it one more shot. And if things didn’t fall into place, if fate decided they weren’t meant to be, he’d move on, and keep searching in every crowd for a girl with gorgeous red hair.
Just like Anne Shirley’s.
In retrospect, the plan Gilbert came up with was literal shit. You’d think someone as smart as him would be able to come up with something better, but sadly it seems as though that intellect only applied to academic endeavors. Not girls. Not by a longshot.
The class room was dead silent as everyone focused on solving their math sums. The sound of chalk scraping against slate filled the air along with the occasional sniffle. No one spoke, not even Mr. Phillips.
Gilbert finished his math work early, and with nothing else to occupy his attention, he looked to Anne. She was focused on her work still, her eyes not straying from the slate once.
As always, his gaze fell upon that streak of black hair that twisted through her left braid. It mocked him silently, much like he and the other students did to Mr. Phillips behind his back.
He began to twirl his streak of red hair absentmindedly between his fingers, getting lost in thought. It was an odd habit he’d picked up over the years, and one he didn’t think would stop anytime soon.
Gilbert sat up straight in his chair with a newfound purpose. He was going to get Anne to talk to him, if it was the last thing he ever did.
He took a quick glance around the room, picked up a decent sized piece of chalk, bit his bottom lip in concentration, honed in on Anne’s shoulder, and tossed it. He missed by a mere inch, but it did its job. It got her attention.
Anne stopped writing on her slate and stared at it intensely. She gripped her own piece of chalk harder, not bothering to look up.
A few others stopped what they were doing and looked up to see what was going on, but Gilbert didn’t care. He threw another piece. And this time it bounced off her shoulder.
Anne sat up straight this time, dropping her piece of chalk on the desk. She clenched her jaw and balled her hands into fists. Still, she didn’t look at him or utter one word.
A lot more people were watching now, almost everyone except Mr. Phillips. Anne was going to have to talk to him eventually if she wanted him to stop.
Gilbert glanced at the apple by the corner of his desk. He picked it up. Looking up to see if Mr. Phillips was still turned towards the board, he got up out of his seat and crouched down next to Anne.
He watched her face carefully not having ever been this close to her before, heart once again racing while his cheeks tingled.
He put the apple on the corner of her desk. “Oops,” he whispered, not looking away from her.
Anne still chose ignore his presence, and Gilbert was getting desperate. He just had to know once and for all if they were soulmates.
So he started to think of things he could do that would drive her to a point where she just had to talk to him. And it didn’t take long for him to come up with something.
Growing up, he vaguely remembered people teasing him about the one tuft of red hair he had sprouting from his head. They’d tug on it harshly and annoyingly call him Carrots as a way to get a rise out of him.
If it annoyed Gilbert, someone with only one small piece of bright red hair, there’s no way it wouldn’t annoy Anne, someone with a full head of it.
Well, he thought to himself, desperate times call for desperate measures.
So Gilbert took a look at Anne, the girl he believed that he was destined to be with, grabbed the end of her braid, and pulled it. “Carrots,” he said, in an attempt to get her attention.
And boy did it work. He definitely got her attention.
“I’m not talking to you!” Anne yelled in anger, standing up out of her seat. He stood up as well in surprise while she wacked him across the cheek with her slate.
The room let out one collective gasp. Well, he can’t say he didn’t deserve it.
Rubbing his cheek with a slight wince, he looked down at Anne who stood as still as a statue. She looked up at him with parted lips and widened eyes, her cheeks blossoming with color.
He leaned in closer, curling one end of his lips upward. “You just did.”
Anne looked at him horrified, and he looked at her with regret as Mr. Phillips called her up to the front of the room while the kids around him laughed.
The look on her face broke his heart to pieces. “It’s my fault sir,” he rushed out, standing up out of his seat. “I teased her.”
He was shocked with Mr. Philips’s lack of reprise, though really he shouldn’t have been. Everyone, even Billy Andrews, could admit that he treated girls unfairly.
What surprised Gilbert the most though, what made him feel as though he were the worst person ever to exist in the history of human kind, was the look Anne gave him as she passed him on her way out of the classroom.
Her face was void of almost all emotion except for her eyes. Those beautiful blue eyes, the ones that had a permanent twinkle to them, met his with a glint of pure unadulterated fury. They darkened a shade almost instantaneously, hatred radiated off her in waves.
If looked could kill, Gilbert would’ve been 6 feet under.
As Anne’s figure disappeared through the doorway of the school house, a heavy weight settled over Gilbert’s heart. He stared down at his desk dejectedly, once again twirling his piece of red hair between his fingers.
“Anne Shirley- Cuthbert is not your soulmate,” Gilbert mumbled, trying to convince himself of the fact more than anyone else. “Hell,” he sat back in his chair and watched as Mr. Phillip’s continued the lesson, exhaling a deep breathe, “She isn’t even your friend.”
Gilbert never for a moment even considered the possibility that Anne could be his soulmate after that day until he ran into her a few weeks later after his father died in Charlottetown.
As he passed by the window of a pawn shop, his attention was snared by a head of gorgeous red hair. Gilbert stopped in his tracks, heart beating out his chest, and peered into the window more closely.
An odd feeling overcame him when he realized it was Anne. He should’ve known, those braids were unmistakably hers.
He watched her talk to the shop’s owner for a while with exaggerated hand gestures and facial expressions. He knew her well enough to know that she telling some story, and by the look on the shop owner’s face, he seemed to be buying into it.
With an apprehensive expression, he turned around and walked over to the cash register. Anne smiled wildly did a quick dance of celebration behind his back. Gilbert suppressed a laugh at the sight, a light smile overcoming his lips.
As she took the money with a face of triumph and began to walk towards the exit, Gilbert knew that it was time he go. But his legs stayed still against his better judgement, and as Anne exited to store, the bell above it ringing sharply, their eyes met.
Her lips parted in surprise. Anne almost looked… happy to see him.
“Gilbert,” she breathed out at the same time he said, “Anne.”
“Gilbert,” she repeated at the same time he said, “Hello.”
They looked at each other in silence for a moment, neither spoke. Gilbert wanted to say something, anything, but his mouth and brain weren’t able to coordinate properly. His attention was focused on keeping his gaze away from the strand of black hair that plagued his dreams.
Anne was the one to break the silence, letting out a shaky breath. “I- I think I need to sit down.”
Gilbert nodded his head and gave her small smile. “Sure.” He gently placed a gloved hand on the crook of her elbow, leading her away from the pawn shop.
They stumbled across a small café and decided to go sit inside. Not for coffee, but because it was mostly empty and a way to get out of the biting cold weather.
They sat across from each other, mugs of hot tea in their hands and a plate of shortbread in between them. From anyone looking inside, it might’ve looked like they were on a date.
But we’re not, Gilbert kept telling himself, we’re not on a date. Anne isn’t your soulmate, she doesn’t like you, and she might just now be able to start tolerating you.
He repeated that mantra in his head over and over like a broken record every time she looked up at him from beneath her lashes, every time a ray of sunlight hit her hair just right illuminating the multicolored strands that he swore looked exactly like the ones sprouting from his head in that one odd spot near his temple.
Gilbert didn’t realize just how much he missed the cadence of her voice until she started telling him about the troubles at Green Gables. He missed how eloquently words flew from her mouth like music, how she used extensive vocabulary to describe things very plain. He missed her.
“So you like working on the docks?” she asked, when the conversation had steered towards what he’d been up too.
“It’s a means to an end,” he replied, looking up from his hands to her freckled face. “I hope to get head on a steamer soon.”
Anne nodded her head, looking shy all of a sudden. “May I ask, what about your farm?”
“I don’t have to decide right now. I wanna see some of the world first.” Gilbert gestured vaguely to the side. “If I come back to Avonlea, I want it to be my choice, not-not obligation.” He paused. “It’s what my dad would’ve wanted.”
“I owe you an apology,” Anne said out of the blue, surprising Gilbert.
If anything, he owed her one. “No you don’t,” he said shaking his head.
“Yes I do,” she insisted.
“No I should apologize to you.”
“No you shouldn’t.”
“I was rude.”
“But it was my fault.”
Gilbert shook his head amused. He couldn’t help the soft smile that overcame his lips. “Can we please, not argue for once?”
“Can you please stop contradicting me?” Anne asked firmly.
He listened to her heartfelt apology, an empty feeling forming in the pit of his gut at the mention of his father. Gilbert hadn’t realized until that moment just how important Matthew Cuthbert had become to Anne. Sometimes he forgot that she was an orphan, and that the Cuthbert’s were the only family she ever really had.
They left the café eventually. As much as Gilbert wanted to sit and talk to Anne until the sun was down and his throat was scratchy, he did have a job, and it was one he couldn’t afford to lose.
He took his time to redress with all his winter gear, buttoning his jacket slowly and adjusting his scarf longer than he needed too, savoring his time with her. He told himself it was became he didn’t want to return to the docks just yet, but who was he kidding, Gilbert couldn’t even convince himself of that.
“I’ve missed you,” Anne admitted, as they stepped outside into the cold Canadian winter.
Gilbert stopped putting his gloves on, his breath got caught in his throat though he tried to hide it. With his heart beating faster than normal (as it always seemed to do around Anne) he bit the inside of his cheek to keep from smiling like an idiot. “Yea?”
Anne put a gray knot hat over her head. “At school, there’s uh, no one to compete with,” she said.
He felt like an idiot for thinking that she meant anything else. Of course she doesn’t just miss you, do you not remember her deliberately ignoring you for weeks and hitting you over the head with her slate?
Still, he’d take it. “You wanna spell out a few words for old times’ sake?” he joked, electing a laugh out of her.
“How about…“Anne started, looking down at shoes. She paused for second, then looked up at Gilbert through her dark red, almost brown, eyelashes. “Truce?”
Anne stuck a gloved hand out hesitantly, her lips curved upwards into a soft smile. Gilbert laughed and grabbed her hand firmly, shaking it gently. Despite the two layers of fabric that lie between their hands, Gilbert could feel a faint heat radiating off of Anne’s small one.
“T-R-U-C-E,” he spelled slowly, letting go of her hand, “Moody would’ve gotten that wrong.”
Anne laughed again, making him smile wider. “He would’ve,” she agreed.
When Gilbert picked up the rest of his stuff the leave begrudgingly, another boy who’s he’d learn later was Jerry, the Cuthbert’s farm hand, showed up with a scrape on his face and a black eye. Apparently he’s been robbed after selling the Cuthbert’s mare.
“Can I help with anything?” Gilbert asked. He looked between Jerry and Anne as she stood up in front of him. “Anything I can do?”
Their eyes met and his heart skipped a beat. “Just… take care of yourself,” Anne said, then let out a deep breath. “Come home someday.”
He thought back to the last time he’d ever looked into her clear blue eyes for this long. They had been filled with fury and hatred at then, a look he really hoped he’d never have to see again. They looked different now. Lighter, hopeful, not so filled with a burning desire to see Gilbert 6 feet underground.
“Yea.” Gilbert nodded his head, a non-binding agreement. He had no clue if he’d ever come back, or where he’d end up. “Hope everything works out.”
“For you too.”
That magnetic pull was back, the one he’d experienced the first time they met. The one he pretended wasn’t there ever since she hit him over the head with her slate and vowed to despise him for ever and ever.
Her blue eyes drifted upwards, focusing on a spot near his temple where his hair met skin. The spot where that tuft of fiery red hair spat out from amidst his dark curls.
Until then, he’d never really thought about what Anne believed him having a streak of hair that matched hers meant. Did she ever think about the possibility that they were meant to be? Or did she not like him so much that it never once crossed her mind?
Anne’s pink lips parted slightly, her eyebrows scrunching together in thought. Gilbert could hear his heart beat in his ears as he let his eyes dart down to her left braid, the one with black weaved into it.
“Wait…” Jerry looked between them. “Are you two s-“
“No,” he and Anne both said quickly, though Gilbert’s heart, soul, brain, and gut instincts all screamed YES.
Jerry looked at the both of them amused and apprehensive, not really believing it himself.  Gilbert muttered a quick goodbye and turned around to leave when Anne called out his name. He turned back around and their eyes met one last time, his skin tingled.
She opened her mouth to speak, closed it, glanced up quickly at Gilbert’s red streak of hair and then at his face once more. “I hope you meet her someday,” Anne said finally. “Someday soon. Who knows, maybe you’ll meet her while you’re on your travels.”
He nodded in agreement, forcing himself to give her a smile though his heart was far from into it. “Yea… I hope so too.”
If Gilbert had known that very moment that he wouldn’t see Anne again for almost a year, the conversation might’ve gone differently. He wouldn’t have walked away briskly, fighting the urge to turn back around with every step.
Instead, he would have turned around. He would’ve walked up to her, and asked how she really felt. He would’ve told her that he wasn’t going to meet his soulmate in some far away land across the Atlantic. He would’ve told her that he believed he already met his soulmate… in the forest at the beginning of fall.
But alas, he didn’t know that next time he’d see Anne they’d both be aged a year. How could he have? Gilbert was a man of many talents, but that list didn’t include the ability to foresee the future.
So Gilbert walked towards the docks, not once looking back. In his mind, he kept replaying him and Anne’s last conversation together.
I hope you meet her someday. Someday soon, Anne had said.
The problem wasn’t that Gilbert had yet to meet his soulmate. The problem was that Gilbert thought he already had… in the forest at the beginning of fall.
And now, he was about to sail halfway around the world… thousands and thousands of miles away from her.
The first time Gilbert ever talked about his suspicions with Anne was the day he received a letter from her while docked in Trinidad.
He was laying on his back in bed, letting the sound of waves crashing against the hull and the gentle rocking of the ship lull him to sleep. There was still light chattering going on around him while the mail was being passed out.
The last thing Gilbert expected was for his name to be called. “Gilbert Blythe,” a man said from the front of the floor where the crew slept.
He opened one eye and sat up confused. “Pardon?”
The man didn’t even bothering speaking again. He simply walked over to Gilbert and dumped an off white, almost yellow, envelope on his lap.
Gilbert scrunched his eyebrows in confusion, flipping it over to read who it sent it. His lips parted in surprise. He blinked, his heart skipping a beat as he read over it again to make sure his eyes didn’t deceive him.
It was from Anne Shirley- Cuthbert.
“Who’s got you over there smiling like a moke?” Sebastian asked. He sat up in his own cot which was a few feet away from his.
Gilbert cleared his throat and spared Bash a short glance. “No one. It’s just a letter from back home.”
Bash chuckled and shook his head, pointing a finger accusingly at the young man. “Ah, I’ve been around long enough to know the look a boy gets when he’s gone with a lady Blythe. There’s no use kidding me about it boy.”
He gave Bash a halfhearted glare. “I’m not gone with a lady,” he responded using finger quotations. “It’s from a friend.” Bash raised any eyebrow. Gilbert let out a sigh of defeat, staring at his lap with a scrunched up nose. “It’s complicated,” he grumbled.
“I’ve got time,” Bash said, then gave Gilbert an expectant look.
Gilbert smiled softly, fiddling with the letter in his hands. “There’s this girl back in Avonlea…Anne. One time I called her Carrots, and she wacked me over the head.”
“I’ll give her right on that,” Bash added.
Gilbert nodded in agreement. “She has fiery red hair and a fiery temper.”
He paused, looking out of the nearby window and out into the vast blue ocean. It reminded him of her eyes, how far away he was from Anne, how far away he was from home. “I wonder if I’ll ever see her again,” he said quietly.
Gilbert could feel Bash’s gaze burning a hole into the side of his head. He turned to look at him with a raised eyebrow. “What?”
“You said she had fiery red hair. Does it look like…“ he stopped talking and gestured to Gilbert’s head.
The boy reached a hand up. He ran his fingers along the strands of red that had begun to gradually darken into a more auburn then orange. “Yea,” Gilbert mumbled, pursing his lips. “It’s uncanny really.”
“And she has a streak of black?” Gilbert nodded. Bash looked at him with both surprise and curiosity. “Do you think she’s your...”
“Soulmate?” he finished for him.
The older generations had some sort of weird thing about saying the word. It was something they were taught from a young age not to talk about freely. Gilbert however, wasn’t raised that way. He had no problem saying the word. He’d say it loud and proud given the opportunity.
“I did for a while, after we first met. It was… all I could think about really. But Anne, I don’t know she didn’t really seem to feel the way I did,” Gilbert said, then corrected himself. “The way I do.”
He smacked the envelope against his hand repeatedly. “It’s just, you know I could’ve sworn there was something there, something electric and magnetic. I can never seem to take my eyes off her and, I never felt better than those few times I made her laugh and smile. That stupid left braid of hers with the stupid black streak of hair plagues my mind, I can’t even escape it with sleep. It shows up there too,” he finished grumbling.
Bash snorted and shook his with head with amusement. “And you said you weren’t gone with a lady. What do you call what you feel for this Anne?”
“Inconvenient.”
A bark of laughter. “Ah young love, so pure and sweet.”
“It’s not young love if the other person doesn’t reciprocate feelings Bash,” Gilbert said, giving his friend a pointed look. “Right now it’s only young pain.”
Another spiel of laughter. “You’re too funny Blythe. And how do you that this Anne isn’t gone with you too? She’s had too at least suspect the possibility of you two being,” he gestured vaguely to the side, “after seeing your coordinating colors.”
Gilbert let out a dry laugh and laid backwards onto his cot. He folded his hands across his chest, the letter pressed into his coal stained shirt. “You want to know what the last thing she said to me was. The last thing I heard her say before I left to get on this ship.”
When no verbal objections, he continued. “I was walking away to go to the docks when she called my name out. I turned around expecting her to say- well anything but what she actually said.” He swallowed.  “Anne looks me in the eye and goes, I hope you find her someday, someday soon.”
“Ouch.”
“Yea…ouch,” Gilbert agreed. “Felt like someone was mowing over my heart with a field plow.” The cot squeaked as he shifted to a more comfortable position. “So, I just gave up on the idea after that, the idea of Anne and I being soulmates. She obviously doesn’t think we are, and there’s no use flogging a dead horse.”
“But you still think you are?” Bash asked slowly.
“Yes…no…I don’t know. I said it’s complicated Bash,” he said, starting to get frustrated just thinking about it. “I used to think we were, but now I’m not so sure.”
“Why? Because she might not feel the same way right now?” Bash scoffed. “News flash, you’re both kids still, feelings can change with time.”
“I know that, it’s just,” Gilbert trailed off, letting out a deep sigh. “Every story I’ve heard about people finding their soulmate makes the whole thing sound so… simple. They meet, and they just know. It’s not like that with Anne. It was, for the half hour I knew her, but now it’s so complicated. Too complicated. So complicated that I’m beginning to think she’s right and we aren’t meant to be because if we were, it would have to be easier than it is right now.”
Bash’s cot creaked as he shifted to get a better look at Gilbert. “A word of advice Blythe, love isn’t simple. It never is. The stories you hear only have the parts in them people want to tell.”
“That’s not advice Sebastian, just a general statement.”
“Fine, you want to know what I would do?” Bash asked, not waiting for an answer. “I wouldn’t give up on her just yet. If Anne really is your soulmate, I think the little bit of extra work you have to put in to be with her will be well worth your while.”
Gilbert knew he meant business the second the word soulmate left Bash’s lips. People over the age of 20 never threw the word around lightly.
It was that night, after he finally gathered up enough nerve to read over the letter, with Bash’s wise words echoing around his head like that of a damp cave, that Gilbert finally decided it was time to return home to Avonlea.
To return home to Anne.
The day Gilbert returned to Avonlea was the day his sunset auburn streak of hair turned green.
When the carriage dropped him and Bash off at his farm that afternoon, everything was normal. His house was fine, the barn was in good shape, the fields were a little overgrown with weeds, but nothing he couldn’t fix with a little work.
Not even 3 hours later, when Gilbert went into kitchen to eat what Bash had cooked for supper did things take a turn.
Sebastian was already eating when he sat down at the table. His friend glanced up at him mid bite as Gilbert pulled out a chair to sit in.  He coughed and dropped his fork with a loud clank reiterating around the room.
“Good lord Blythe!” Bash sputtered out between coughs, choking on his food. “What have you done to your hair?”
Gilbert scrunched his eyebrows together, very confused. “What?”
Sebastian pointed towards a mirror that hung on the wall next to the sink, still trying to gain his composure. The boy got up hesitantly and walked over to it, not knowing what to expect.
He let out a strangled gasp at the sight before him. “Why is it green?” Gilbert yelped in surprise.
The leaned in closer to the mirror, trying to get a better look. The roots were still red for about an inch while the rest of it was an odd pastel sea green color. He took the once beautiful red strands between his fingers and groaned loudly.
Sebastian, having finally gotten his composure together, started laughing manically. “It’s not funny!” Gilbert whined. “My first day back at school in a year and I have green hair? What kind of luck is that?”
Bash stopped laughing and instead settled for a wide teeth barring grin. “How did you not notice?”
Gilbert went back over to the dinner table and sat down with a huff. “I’ve been unpacking all day and getting ready for school tomorrow. Sorry I haven’t the time to look in a mirror.”
Taking a bite of food, Bash studied Gilbert’s new color further. “The real question we need to be asking is why in the good name of the lord would someone willingly dye their hair that color.” He took another bite of food. “She must be a wild one.”
“Believe me,” Gilbert grumbled between harsh chews. “I’ll definitely be bringing this up when we meet.”
Bash chewed slowly and looked at him questioningly. “So you don’t think it’s Anne?”
“It just, doesn’t make any sense.” Gilbert pushed some food around his plate with the fork he was given, pursing his lips in thought.
“Though I do agree with you, care to elaborate some?”
He put his fork down, sitting backwards into his chair, hands resting on his lap. “I know that Anne isn’t fond of her red hair because she thinks it isn’t pretty and people tease her about it-“
“People like you?” Bash interrupted.
“Oh shut up that was one time.” Gilbert gave him a half-hearted glare. “Anyway,” he continued, “I can’t think of a good reason for her to want to dye her hair green. She’s vexed enough about it as it is, and dying it green is far from a solution.”
Gilbert wasn’t sure how he felt about what he was saying, though he believed it all to be true. If he turned out to be correct, that would mean Anne wasn’t his soulmate after-all. That would mean he’d spent months secretly pining over a girl he wasn’t supposed to be with.
It scared him a little bit, to think about what it meant. What he felt for Anne was indescribable, no arrangement of words in the English language could possibly capture it spot on.
But if Anne wasn’t his soulmate, then how would he feel for the real thing? He thought no one could ever feel more strongly about a person then he did for Anne. At times it seemed to consume him.
“I guess you’ll find out tomorrow then eh?” Bash said, shaking Gilbert from his reverie.
“Yea, I guess so,” he mumbled, it went quiet for a moment. Gilbert then shook his head with a laugh all of a sudden and looked at Bash. “Did you just say eh?”
Bash stopped chewing and swallowed harshly. “Oh my good lord I did.”
Gilbert raised his glass for a toast, smiling broadly. “Welcome to Canada Bash.”
He raised a glass to meet his with a clink. “No…Welcome home.”
Gilbert woke up the next morning for school pleasantly surprised when he saw that the green streak of hair had returned to the red color he had become accustomed to his entire life.
He was both nervous and excited to return to school, so nervous and excited that he couldn’t eat breakfast. Bash forced an apple into his hand before he left the house though, which Gilbert was thankful for 5 minutes later when his stomach growled as he walked to school.
The leaves crunched under his feet as he padded the familiar trail through the forest, leading him to the school house. He passed the spot where he first met Anne all those months ago, not quite believing how much his life had changed since then.
He dumped the apple core in a bare spot of soil to decompose before he walked up the steps to school. Gilbert took a deep breath, and opened the door with as much confidence as he could possibly muster.
Charlie saw him first, doing a double take before yelling. “Gilbert!” A gasp went around a room as everyone turned towards the door and saw him.
He smiled, managing to put his stuff away and hang up his winter clothes before the crowd of boys bombarded him. They corralled him over to his desk like a dog does to a herd of sheep.
He talked to them vaguely of his travels while they caught him up on all the drama that had been going on in Avonlea since he left. Apparently, there was no gold after-all.
If Gilbert had come back to Avonlea expecting to find it, he’d probably be disappointed. But that wasn’t why he came back, and he didn’t tell the boys that. If he did, he’d have to explain the real reason, and Gilbert didn’t feel like telling that story.
The faint sound of the school door creaking open registered in Gilbert’s mind passively. He thought nothing of it. That is, until a quick moment later, everyone went quiet.
And there was only one person in all of Avonlea who could make that kind of entrance into a room.
Gilbert’s heart rate steadily increased as he moved through the crowd of boys into the walkway between the two columns of desks. The whispers around him filled his ears, though they weren’t able to drown out the sound of his own hearts’ beating.
“Anne?” he called out, stepping into her view.
Her eyes widened at the sight of him, a short gasp of surprise escaped her lips. “You’re back,” Anne breathed out, not looking away from him.
“Yes,” Gilbert replied. He could no longer hold back a smile. “Hi.”
Anne got kind of a panicked look on her face. “There’s no gold!” she blurted out. Is that why everyone thought he came back?
He gave an odd look at her strange behavior. “I-I know, I-I heard.”
Gilbert really looked at her for a moment, and felt stupid for not noticing such a drastic change before. His eyes had been too focused on her face, her eyes, and her presence for him to see that Anne’s hair was almost completely gone.
There was a little over an inch of hair in length that sprouted all across her head. He was finally able to get a good look at where the black streak originated from, it had always been hidden by braids before then. It stuck out right above her ear, in spot where it seemed to appear out of nowhere when it was weaved into her left braid.
Anne still looked cute to Gilbert. If it were possible, her eyes seemed even brighter than they did before. Her freckles looked darker and her lips more pink.
He couldn’t help but wonder why she chose to cut all her hair off though. He knew Anne didn’t like her red hair that much, but she couldn’t have hated it that much.
And that’s when it hit him.
“That’s not why I’m here,” Gilbert finally said, not able to take his eyes off her once again. This time though, for a different reason.
His heart pounded so hard against his chest that he was sure everyone around him could hear it. “Did you-“Gilbert paused, looking at her hair once more. “Did you dye your hair green?”
Anne let out a horrified gasp and covered her mouth with one of her dainty little hands. “How did you know that?” she yelped in surprise.
Her reaction answered his question. While everyone around them burst into a fit of snickers at the thought of Anne with green hair, Gilbert’s vision tunneled.
His hand slowly went up to touch his tuft of red hair, the room went silent.
Anne’s eyes followed his movement, her bottom lip quivering as the realization hit her. “Oh,” she breathed out shakily, staring at the piece of hair.
“No way,” Diana mumbled in disbelief from somewhere next to him.
The new boy, who he’d later learn was Cole, let out a short laugh. “Well I’ll be…”
Gilbert dropped his hand back to his side, eyes softening as Anne’s gaze shifted to meet his. He took a small step closer, gaging her reaction.
“It’s really good to see you,” he said, breaking the silence between them.
She did nothing but stare. She didn’t blink. She didn’t breathe. She didn’t speak. Until she took a small step forward. Then another, and another, and another as she rushed forward to close the remaining distance between them, pulling Gilbert into a bone crushing hug.
He let out an oomph as Anne latched her arms around him, pressing her face firmly against his chest. There was no doubt in his mind that she was able to hear his crazy rapid heartbeat now.
It took a second to register with Gilbert, but when it did… when it finally hit him that Anne Shirley-Cuthbert was the girl he was gonna spend the rest of his life with, the one who was going to being with her ethereal love and happiness, he hugged her back with all he had in him.
Anne let out a content sigh, a slow clap from Diana turned into a full on round of applause. Gilbert slid a hand up her back and shoulder blades, coming to a stop to cradle the back of her head against his chest.
“Thank god it’s you.”

----------------------
„When you looked over your shoulder
For a minute, I forget that I'm older
I wanna dance with you right now
Oh, and you look as beautiful as ever
And I swear that everyday'll get better
You make me feel this way somehow
I'm so in love with you
And I hope you know
Darling your love is more than worth its weight in gold
We've come so far my dear
Look how we've grown
And I wanna stay with you until we're grey and old
Just say you won't let go“, Say you won’t let go, James Arthur
------------------------
Catherine stands on the stage of the University of Cordonia’s auditorium, in front of a crowd of students, visitors and faculty members. She is nervous, not because of the people in front of her but because she is back to his country and it reminds her of everything she has tried to forget.
After a round of applause, she walks up to the microphone and starts her speech:
„The story I came to tell you today is one of the most harrowing stories I have ever encountered in my years as a lawyer. Our client was only 19 years old when war broke out and a religious extremist terror group took over her village. She, a university student just like most of you here, was forced to watch all of the men in her community, including her father and brothers, be marched off to their death — 600 of them being killed in one single day. Her mother was killed together with other older women and disposed in a mass grave. Our client… she was only 19 when she was traded from one terrorist to another, forced to make herself pretty every time before she was raped — sometimes, raped until unconsciousness by a group of men. She was beaten and burned with cigarets.. She was one of 8000 women and children, some of them as young as 11, taken by this group to be sold in a sex slave market, sometimes for as little as $20.
These perpetrators bragged online about killing the men, conquering the women and wiping their religion from this world. Make no mistake, what I am describing you today is genocide — and it is still ongoing. Yet, only a handful of these men have been prosecuted in a court of law for crimes committed against this religious minority. And with every day, evidences are being lost and destroyed and witnesses are being dispersed or disappearing.
States are failing to punish and condemn these crimes whilst girls are having their body sold and used as battlefields. Yes, military actions are being taken but this is only part of the response. You can’t kill an ideology with bombs. But you can expose their crimes, their brutality and corruption through trials — trials that are in line with our values and our standards. The survivors of these crimes are seeking justice and the opportunity to face their abusers in an international court and we cannot deny them that (…)“
—————
After a couple of hours of discussing this case with law professors and answering a few questions from the public, the session comes to an end. Catherine stands in the hallway talking to her colleague and a member of the faculty, when she hears a familiar voice calling her name, „Spencer!“.
She turns around to find Drake, Hana and Maxwell standing a few feet away. She excuses herself and with a big smile on her face she walks up to them, hugging each one of them warmly, „I can’t believe you guys came!“, she says surprised.
„Are you kidding? We couldn’t wait to see you, Katie. And now look at you being a badass lawyer! And this story… ohhhh boy, this is sooo sad…“, he pauses for a few seconds, „But, hey, I am so happy that you are here. Is it too soon to say that we should celebrate your return to Cordonia with a bash!?“, Maxwell looks at the others showing his excitement of seeing his friend after so many years. Everybody laughs but Drake looks at him making an annoyed face.
Hana takes Catherine’s hand and squeezes it, saying: „We tried to call you a few days ago but I guess you changed your number again. Hopefully, you can stay with us for the weekend“.
Catherine smiles, „I got a new number a few months ago. I’m sorry, I guess I forgot to send you the text“, she picks up a business card from her bag and gives it to Hana, „Here you go and my email is in there too, just in case you guys want to get in touch“. She then looks at Maxwell and says: „About this bash thing… sadly, I am flying back in the evening. But we could spend sometime together until I have to leave“, she smiles, looking forward to catching up with them.
Drake clears his throat, „Hmm, Liam was here too, Spencer. He left a few minutes ago to take care of a few things“. When she hears his name she feels her heart sinking into the pit of her stomach. „But he left an invitation for you to join him at the palace. There is a car waiting for you outside…“.
Catherine takes a deep breath, „I don’t know if this is a good idea, Drake… Also, I am not really in the mood to cross Madeleine’s path and to deal with old drama“.
„Madeleine won’t be a problem, I guarantee you. We won’t force you to go, but Spencer, you guys should talk somethings out and you know that“, Drake says it, giving her a serious look. It took her some convincing, but Catherine finally decides to go see Liam at the palace.
After exchanging a few words with her friends, she leaves the building and heads to the car. As she enters it, she sees a bouquet of red roses with a small card lying on the seat next to her. She looks at it and smiles, recognizing Liam’s handwriting:
„Dear Catherine,
I can’t wait to see you… it’s been far too long.
Love,
Liam“
She knows, she shouldn’t feel like this but she has butterflies in her stomach. She looks out of the window nervous, knowing that she is minutes away from seeing him after such a long time. It is incredible that he still makes her feel this way… incredible and scary. He is right, it’s been far too long, but after their last talk, she hoped for a long time that they would never cross paths again.
—————
Catherine stands in the doorway and looks at Liam sitting at the table, covering his eyes with his hands.
„So, that’s it? You are going to marry her… did you came here for what? Get my blessing?“, Catherine asks angrily.
„Don’t say that, Katie. It’s not like I have a choice… I am begging you to come with me. I can’t do this without you“, he looks at her, tears streaming down his face.
„I don’t get it, Liam. Why can’t you just call off the wedding? Instead, you want me to hold your hand whilst you are getting married to her?“, she shakes her head and starts crying.
He stands up and walks over to her but before he can hold her in his arms, she says firmly: „Get out!“, she looks into his eyes „If you are going to marry her, you should leave now… there is nothing to be said anymore!“. He stands there, looking at her for a minute before walking out of the living room. There is so much he would like to tell her now, but she would not listen to him. He opens the front door and looks back to see her one last time. She turns to him and says: „If you go through with this, don’t you dare come back for me!“, he sinks his head and turns away from her, leaving the shards of their love scattered over Catherine’s apartment. Catherine falls to the floor, tears bursting forth like water from a dam and she knows, this is the end.
—————
The black Mercedes stops in front of the palace and Catherine is greeted by Bastien, who asks her to follow him into a path she knows too well. They are heading to the maze and Catherine can’t help feeling some mixed feelings about it. This place brought her so much happiness but it also caused her so much pain. A few feet away from the center of the maze, Bastien asks to take care of the flowers for her, telling her to go ahead.
Catherine walks slowly, feeling as if her heart was going to burst. She takes a few deep breaths before she reaches the center. Looking over, she sees Liam pacing around, as nervous as she is and she smiles — he looks just the same, as if nothing had changed.
Suddenly their eyes meet. He sees her in her black sleeveless mid dress, her blond hair kept in a ponytail and he feels his heart skipping a beat. To him, she is the most beautiful thing he has ever seen and having her finally there, in front of him, woke up something in him that he thought was gone. „Catherine…“, he walks up to her with a big smile on his face, „I can’t believe you came…“, he embraces her.
„Hi Liam, it is really nice to see you“, she says a little unsure of how to react. He looks at her again, takes her hand and brings her to under a tree, where there is a blanket with a picnic basket and some cushions on it, „Wow, it feels kind of surreal to be back here with you“, she smiles and they sit on the blanket.
„I know… you look stunning as always, it feels as if time stood still“, he takes her hand and brushes his thumb over her knuckles. He stares at her smiling for a few seconds not believing she is there with him.
Catherine blushes and looks away for a moment, saying under her breath, „And yet four years have gone by…“, there is a sadness in her voice.
„Four years, two months and 23 days…“, he whispers, kissing her hand and causing Catherine to wonder how he could know this so precisely. After a short moment of silence, he opens the basket, saying: „I took the liberty to choose an American dish for us… I hope you still love Sloppy Joes!?“, she laughs in disbelief that he remembered the time they spent in New York together before he left to the engagement tour — she actually taught him how to make her mother’s recipe. He hands her a plate and napkins. „So, tell me more about your life. You are doing an impressive job and I’m so proud of you!“, he says smiling at her.
„Thank you, but I’m only doing my job and I’m not doing this alone, it is a team work and I am really grateful for being able to be a part of it. As you can imagine, my life has been busy. I am glad I have a few days off coming up, before the craziness starts again…“, she takes a bite and says: „Ohh, this is really good! Compliments to the chef…“, he smiles and offer her something to drink.
„I’m glad you like it, I spent the evening cooking this“, he laughs thinking about how the kitchen looked liked afterwards.
Catherine looks at him in disbelief, „What? You made these?“, she laughs „I guess I have seen everything now… and for the looks of it, the palace is still standing, so congratulations!“
Liam laughs, „Well, I cook it every now and then. Drake loves it and, well… there are a lot of good memories attached to it.“. She smiles at him and he says: „But apart from work, what have you been up to? Are you… are you seeing someone?“, he looks at her hand, blushing and shaking his head „I am sorry, I used to be good at this kind of conversations, but I haven’t put it into praxis in a while“.
Catherine giggles, thinking his reaction is adorable, „No, I’m not seeing anyone. I haven’t had a relationship since… since I broke off my engagement a year ago. I just don’t have the time for a relationship right now“, she takes a sip of her drink.
„Ohh, I see…“, he smiles discreetly „I heard about your engagement… I’m sorry it didn’t work out“, he says looking at her.
„Nope, you are not really sorry, are you?“, she laughs „But how did you know? Did Hana tell you?“, Liam’s face falls as he explains:
„When I divorced Madeleine, 15 months ago after we found Tariq and he finally cleared your name, I went to New York. I wanted to talk to you… I couldn’t wait to see you and tell you the news. Bastien found your new address, but he also found out that you had a fiance. I wanted to tell you the news so bad… but when I saw you with him, I just couldn’t… you seemed happy, so happy with him and I felt as if I would be intruding in your life again“, he sighs, staring ahead. „I was happy for you but it killed me inside that I wasn’t the one by your side and it was all my fault. I shouldn’t have married Madeleine… I should have broke it off and dealt with the consequences. I have regretted my choice from the moment I said ‚I do‘ until today“, he takes a deep breath, „And now having you here, I can’t help but imagining what could have been. All I know is that not a day went by that I didn’t miss you, Katie“, he says lowering his face.
Catherine can’t believe he went back to New York to see her. They both have been through so much but she knows how difficult it might have been for him to let her go. She gets closer to him and leans her head on his shoulders „I knew about Tariq, Hana told me everything, but I never knew you got divorced…“. He puts one arm around her waist and she continues, „What happened that day in my apartment in New York really hurt me, Liam. But I know that, in a very twisted way, you were trying to be responsible and to be the best King for your country… you put your duty before your feelings, hurting both of us“, he pulls her closer to him and kisses her hair.
„I really hope you can forgive me one day, Katie. I don’t deserve it… I really don’t but I never stopped loving you…“, he looks at her deep blue eyes „Do you still feel anything for me?“, he takes her hand and kisses it. He is nervous, unsure if he can take the answer.
Catherine looks away for a few seconds, then back at him „I forgave you years ago, Liam. But my life is just chaos right now, I don’t have the time to put the effort into a relationship… if this is what you want to know“, she looks away again, spending some minutes in silence. She stands up, she seems distant as if some old walls have come up again, „Anyway, thank you for the walk down memory lane, but I really should get going. I have a flight to catch in a few hours and I still have a few things to do“.
Liam stands up as well and locks his arms around her, pulling her against him, „You didn’t answer my question… do you still have feelings for me?“, he rests his forehead against hers.
„Do I really have to say this?”, she sees his baby blue eyes pleading for an answer, “Okay… I… I never stopped loving you either, Liam. But it doesn’t change the fact that I don’t have the time for this. There is no more you and me, this is part of the past now and we have to leave it there“, she puts her hands on his chest, pushing him gently away.
Liam closes his eyes feeling the pain of her words and whispers, „Are you happy? Because I have been miserable… I would do anything for you, anything you want from me just for one chance of a happy life with you, Katie“, he looks deep in her eyes „You say you don’t have time for this, then let me do the work this time, Catherine… let me be the one to put the effort and fight for this, the way you fought for me… please. I am not the Liam that left you alone in that apartment anymore, I want to show you that“.
Catherine shakes her head slightly, „I don’t know if I wanna go there, Liam. I don’t wanna go through a pain like that ever again… I don’t know if I can survive this one more time“, she turns around slowly but he lightly grabs her hand and gently pulls her towards him into a passionate kiss. Her eyes widened as she felt his lips colide with hers but she soon relaxes into his arms, wrapping her hands around his neck and pushing him harder against her. The kiss lasted moments but they found themselves breathless as they parted. She gazed at Liam’s face and he knew she felt it too — the four years have not erased one bit of their love and passion for each other.
„Spend your time off with me… we can go somewhere only the two of us. And if you still think it won’t work, I’ll accept it… but please, let me try!“, he kisses her forehead.
She cups his face, looking into his eyes, „I promise I will think about it, Liam…“, that was all she could tell him for now. She rises up on her tip toes and gives Liam a peck on the cheek, slowly brushing her hands on his muscular chest. He smiles hopeful and watches her making her way to the car.

Buyer’s Guide: Features to Consider Before Buying an HD Projector
For buying the best HD projector for the money, you should consider these factors beforehand. Also, compare all the projectors based on these factors to go with the right option. Application Where do you want to use the projector? Do you need it to use at home, or you are looking for an HD projector for your office? The reason why the application matters is due to the fact that you should go for a portable option when it comes to buying a projector for office or commercial tasks. On the other hand, you can get a bigger HD projector for your home because you don’t have to move it every day. Brightness  The brightness of an HD projector is determined by its lumens. How dark is the room where you want to set up the projector? For well-lit rooms, HD projectors with higher lumens are good. In case you need a projector for a dark room, then you can settle down with a low lumens projector as well because everything will be clearly visible on the screen. Contrast  The contrast of a projector is the difference between the brightness of white and the black. For an HD projector with 1000:1 contrast, the white point is 1000 times brighter than the black or dark point. HD projectors with higher contrast have sharper visuals and better picture quality. No matter you need a projector for home or office. Always select the device that has higher contrast for better picture quality. Resolution  All the projectors listed in this article have high definition resolution (1280 x 720 pixels), so you don't have to worry about that. You can choose any of the projectors reviewed above to get an HD resolution device. Sound  How loud should be the sound of the projector? An ideal projector should not produce more than 30 dB sound. Generally, home cinema projectors have louder speakers, and small portable projectors are quiet. You can even pair a sound system with the projector to get an ultimate sound experience. Technology  HD projectors are available with a variety of technologies i.e., DLP, LCD, and SXRD. You have to choose the projector technology wisely to make sure that it's suitable for your needs. Generally, DLP projectors are compact, and they require less space as compared to LCD projectors. On the other hand, LCD projectors have better picture quality, and they are a bit more expensive. Go through this article to select the right type of HD projector.  Connections  Check the connecting ports available with a projector. As an example, if you want to connect the projector using an HDMI port, then you need one which has HDMI and other such ports. Similarly, look for audio ports and other ports before selecting the projector. Maintenance Cost  You can reckon the maintenance cost of a projector by finding out what projection lamp it uses, and how costly the lamp is. A lamp is one of the most replaced parts of projectors as it is prone to easy damages. Go for a projector that requires the least maintenance so that you don't have to spend money on maintenance.   Final Thoughts These are the best HD projectors available in the market, and getting one of these will reward you with a fantastic experience. Make sure to go through the buying guide before you pick a projector. Also, consider the FAQ section to get some more information about HD projectors. Canning Corn: Better Than Store-Bought Canned Sweet Corn!
Tumblr media
with Sharon Peterson
Canning corn is a great way to preserve your harvest. Some people love it, and some don't. Personally, I like the flavor of home-canned corn too. Canning corn from your own garden or another local grower is still better than store-bought canned sweet corn.
Many people also prefer the taste of frozen corn. For these reasons, freezing corn is another great preserving option. I do some of each because my family prefers the frozen over canned. But I love the convenience of canned!
We have a wonderful variety of sweet corn that is grown around here called Olathe Sweet Corn. It is so good and sweet, and they have a festival weekend dedicated to corn. The weekend includes concerts and all-you-can-eat corn on the cob.
If you are working with a sweet corn, don't be surprised if it comes out a deep, golden color. This sometimes happens with the sweeter varieties.
Corn does take a bit more work than some other foods. It is not hard, but it has a processing time of 1 hr and 25 minutes for quarts and 55 minutes for pints. Compared to other produce, canning corn takes a long time.
"Can corn be canned in a water bath?"
No, home-canned corn must be processed in a pressure canner.
Required Preparations for Canning Corn
Gather Your Canning Supplies for Canning Corn:
Ingredients for Canning Corn:
You will need about 32 pounds (in husks) of sweet corn per canner load of 7 quarts; an average of 20 pounds is needed per canner load of 9 pints.
How to Can Corn
Here's how to can corn:
Pick your corn. Corn should be fresh-picked and ripe.
Get your corn huskers to work! Make sure they do their best to get all the hair off. Games make this task fun. Challenge them to see who can husk the most ears. Here's a tip for mess control: husking can be done outside.
While the corn is being husked, start boiling water, either in a large stockpot or your blancher.
Blanch your corn cobs.
Cut the kernels from the cob.
This can get messy too. The corn tends to squirt. Do it in an area that will be easy to clean up. I have a big island in the center of my kitchen that I use. I LOVE easy clean up!
Tips:
Use an electric knife: I've never done this but it sounds like a great idea.
Use a bundt pan: Set your corn on end on the center piece and let the kernels fall into the pan. I've tried this and it seems awkward to me. I list it here because I have seen others rave about doing it this way. Try it, and you may just like it.
Here is a video of my husband's cutting-the-kernels-off-the-cob-time-saver. He is using a tool that is called a corn stripper. I do not have a brand name on ours, and it is a vintage tool that has been around for years. If you do a search on Amazon, you'll see some that are similar.
Video - Tim's Easy Corn Method
Close-up of the blade on this corn stripper. (Check your local farm store for similar cutters. It is an invaluable tool when canning corn, dehydrating, and pickling.) When you want to get a lot of cobs stripped, use one of these.
While the corn is being husked and the corn is cut off, go ahead and get your canner and canning jars ready.
Optional: Add salt to the jars, ½ tsp per pint or 1 tsp per quart. (Salt is for seasoning purposes only.)
After the kernels are off the cob, pack into clean canning jars.
When canning corn, you can either use the raw pack or hot pack method. Since I have already blanched my corn, I prefer raw pack.
Here are directions for both:
Fill jars, leaving 1-inch headspace. Wipe the rims of your jars clean, so there will be no food particles to interfere with the seal.
Place your canning lids on and finally add your screw bands. Place in a pressure canner to process.
If you need more instruction on how a pressure canner works, see this page.
How to Process Corn in a Pressure Canner
Always use a pressure canner when canning corn.
Adjustments for Pressure Canner Altitude in Feet Dial Gauge Canner Weighted Gauge Canner 0-1000 11 10 1001-2000 11 15 2001-4000 12 15 4001-6000 13 15 6001-8000 14 15 8000-10,000 15 15
Do You Like Creamed Corn? Try This.
Here’s a quick, easy way to make a cream-style corn from regular kernel corn--canned sweet corn, frozen corn, or store-bought corn. It doesn’t matter. This is not for canning; rather, it is how I make creamed corn when I open the jars of canned sweet corn.
If you are using home-canned corn, it is a good idea to open the jar and boil your corn for 10 minutes. Read more on why I suggest boiling first here.
Heat corn to simmer. Simmer for 10 minutes, if you wish. Remove 1/2 of the corn to a blender. Add 1/2 cup or so of cream. (Half and half, evaporated milk, or another cream of your choice works, but I usually have half and half on hand.) Puree.
Add back with corn. Add butter and salt to taste. Heat and serve.
Very easy and good too.
Canning Corn Questions
"When Pressure Canning Corn, Do I Really Have to Process It for That Long?
Question:
Canning Corn processing question.
Hello, I'm a long time canner/freezer/preserver type of girl. In the past I've always put my corn up in the freezer, because that's the way mom and gran do it.
But the garden is gang busters this year and even with a new freezer, there isn't going to be room for all of it.
Anyway I called gran and borrowed mom's steam pressure canner and canned up the first few batches of corn. I followed the directions in the Ball Blue Book and let the thing chick-chick for 55 minutes.
However the corn has darkened quite a bit and some of the water in the jar is gone as well. So I've gone on-line to get more info.
Both gran and mom say 55 mins is too long and they only ever steam theirs for 25 minutes.
I'm filding conflicting directions on line too, I've found websites indicating times anywhere from 25 to 55 minutes. I don't want to poison my family, but I would love it if that 25 minute time was a possibility.
Sharon's Answer:
Hi Amy
This is a hard question. And I have been asked it in a myriad of ways. Can I do it the 'old' way? Many of the questions posed to me point out that either moms or grandmothers did things different. And I certainly don't like contradicting our elders... often they have great wisdom!
However, the answer is: You take a risk by doing it the 'old' way. You have to make that decision yourself. Personally, I've decided to just follow the recommended guidelines and have that peace of mind. The processing times I give on my site are all taken from safe sources. My most frequently used source is the National Center for Home Preservation, though some directions are from the Ball Blue Book too.
The good news is that it is not unusual for canning corn to turn golden in color. Mine often is a darker color. From my research, it is because it is a very sweet variety. My corn never tastes overcooked.
As far as the liquid loss, that is okay too. You want to avoid it, but it will not hurt your corn, unless it is extreme. Liquid loss is often caused by taking your jars out of the canner too quickly.
Leave the jars in your canner for a couple of minutes before removing. Open the canner, and then wait 3 or 4 minutes. This gives the jars a chance to cool slightly. When it is cooling, the contents will be shrinking and not swelling, so that may help you keep more liquid in your jars.
Read more on this here: Home canning and liquid loss.
I hope that helps.
Question:
Sharon, I was reading canning corn and noticed that it takes 1hr-25min to do a batch. Why does it take so much longer with corn and beans to process. Thank you.
Sharon's Answer:
It all has to do with the acidity of the food. I've used the times recommended by the USDA. They test the foods and determine the length of processing necessary for eliminating the risk of botulism. Corn is more starchy than other vegetables, so I'd assume the acidity levels are different as well. Also, corn contains more natural sugar.
Here are a few pages that might interest you:
Botulism - A severe, sometimes fatal food poisoning caused by ingestion of food containing botulin.
Canning methods - Which canning methods to use? Is my food high-acid or low-acid? Should I process in a water bath canner or pressure canner? Why? That is a common question ~ and a good one...
More Ways to Preserve Corn
Freezing Corn
This page explains everything you need to know about freezing corn, either on the cob or as sweet corn kernels. Also, learn how to make a cream-style corn.
Canning corn from your own garden or another local grower is still better than store-bought corn.
I decided to try something fun. Corn Cob Jelly sounds weird. But hey, if you add enough sugar, even corn cobs can turn out tasty!
I had all the ingredients for this growing in my garden, so I decided to try a corn relish recipe I found in my Ball Blue Book.
I found that just like most things, dehydrating corn is easy...especially since we were on a roll and already had had corn prepped for freezing, canning, pickling, and sweets.

5 Best Pneumatic Impact Wrench Reviews in 2018
Pneumatic or Air wrenches are the most powerful on the market, and while having a noisy compressor is often undesirable it’s the only way you’ll get a truly powerful tool. There are loads of options when buying but the best pneumatic impact wrench will remove that tough nut fast.
When looking for the best air impact wrench you’ll need to start with how much power you need. That means looking at maximum torque and minimal effort on your part. Whether you want a reliable and well-known brand or a bargain entry level you’re going to want the best pneumatic wrench for your money.
The difference between electric and pneumatic’s are, that the pneumatic’s are powered by compressed air. These also require an extra air compressor and not just a battery or plug. There are 5 common sizes ranging from 0.25-1” drives and larger drives can exert torque as high as 3,000ft lbs.
The best air impacts can last all day as long as the compressor is running but still use the same hammer and anvil principal that electric ones use. The biggest disadvantage to pneumatic wrenches is that it’s often difficult to control the power, and with the higher power it’s easy to strip out or break a screw if you’re not careful.

Top 5 Best Air Impact Wrench Reviews
1. BOSTITCH BTMT72391 1/2-Inch – Best Air Impact Wrench For Home Use
Tumblr media
130 Reviews
BOSTITCH BTMT72391 1/2-Inch Impact Wrench
Twin Hammer Mechanism
Aluminum Body
Adjustable Power Regulator
Bottom Handle Exhaust
Touch Control Trigger
Buy on Amazon
Pros
This has power and performance and it’s durable with a 1/2” drive. This is a twin hammer drive that produces high torque housed in an aluminum frame that is light and durable. There’s also a switch to adjust power regulation over three settings so you’re less likely to damage your bolts. The rubberized handle makes it easy to handle even with grease or water on your hands.
The load is up to 500ft.lb of torque which isn’t huge but it’s also less than $100 so you’re looking at a cheaper product.
The bottom exhaust is easy to maneuver and you’ll need to keep the 3/8 hose rather than trying to use an adapter and another size as it throttles the wrench and impedes the power.
Cons
The reverse setting does not have multiple power options, and even the forward setting doesn’t give consistent power between the three modes.
Unlike electric wrenches there’s also no lights and no frills. It’s also questionable if the 500ft.lb boast is close to true as it struggles at only half that.

  2. AIRCAT 1150 Killer Torque 1/2-Inch, Black – Top Rated Air Impact Wrench
Tumblr media
761 Reviews
AIRCAT 1150 Killer Torque 1/2-Inch Impact Wrench, Black
sheer power and performance of 1,295 Feet-pounds (ft-lb) of loosening torque and Max. Torque 900 ft-lbs
1,400 Blows Per Minute makes this the strongest hard hitting Twin Hammer 1/2 Impact Wrench on the market
15-Percent larger rotor creates unmatched power
Patented quiet technology at 86 decibels
2 year parts and labor warranty
Buy on Amazon
Pros
With a well-known brand name, the Aircat produces an impressive 1295ft.lb of torque and 1400 hits per minute. It’s twin hammer driven, the same as the Bostitch, which makes it extremely strong. The tool is fairly lightweight in comparison to others on the market.
The handle has an ergonomic grip to make using it for a longer time easier. There’s also a special exhaust system which produces a very quiet 86 decibel output and a large rotor for better power.
Cons
There’s a lot of shakes when using this which makes it difficult to use for long periods and can shake parts loose like the snap ring.
It’s powerful but isn’t suited for heavy duty jobs because of this. The rating is also misleading as this only really functional up to about 500ft.lb.

396 Reviews
Ingersoll-Rand 2135TiMAX 1/2-Inch Air Impact Wrench
780-foot-pounds max power
New professional touch trigger with a wider range of power regulator settings in forward
Patented push button forward/reverse provides maximum control
Weighs just 3.95-pounds
Designed to last and backed by the MAX Protection Program that offers a free 2 year limited warranty with tool registration
Buy on Amazon
Pros
IR is known as a great brand for tools, but it’s also costly because of that. With a lightweight and super duty air impact wrench at under 4lb, this is a very maneuverable tool. It’s maximum 780ft.lb power seems low compared to the Aircat but it’s genuinely got that power consistently which is more important.
Considered to have the best power-to-weight ratio in this class the sensitive trigger also helps to produce excellent control and performance. The power regulator dial also helps to make the pressure adjustable so that it’s fully adjustable. The four positions give this the widest range of settings of any here.
This also has a standard 1/2” driver and is considered to be very durable if maintained properly.
Cons
While this has extra power it’s also not a twin anvil drive so while there’s extra torque it’s impact isn’t as great as the Aircat or the Bostitch and uses a 1/2” hose which actually seems to impede the power.

  4. NitroCat 1200-K 1/2-Inch Kevlar Composite With Twin Clutch Mechanism – Best Value Air Impact Wrench
Tumblr media
376 Reviews
NitroCat 1200-K 1/2-Inch Kevlar Composite Air Impact Wrench With Twin Clutch Mechanism
Most powerful 1/2-inch impact in its class; Durable Kevlar composite housing with ergonomically designed handle (reduces operator fatigue)
Patented quiet technology (86 decibels)
Hard hitting twin clutch mechanism
Patented through-the-handle exhaust to keep debris away from face
Easy operation flip lever - forward and reverse
Buy on Amazon
Pros
The durable casing is made of kevlar so this can really take a beating. The 86 decibel quiet technology is comparable to that of the Aircat and uses similar technology.
The impact wrench with twin clutch mechanism adds extra power to it’s hitting capacity with a torque capacity of 1295ft.lb which is a step up from the dual hammer of the Aircat.
The 3/8 hose is comparable to the Bostitch and it also has a weight of 4.5lb which is quite easy to handle. Like the Aircat, the Nitrocat exhausts through the handle so you don’t have to worry about debris or back-pressure.
Cons
The flip lever is a little fiddly to operate when switching back and forth between forward and reverse.
There’s no case and it’s also got a rounded anvil which can damage sockets over time. In fact, the whole assembly seems to have issues with heavy use and longevity.

Pros
This is a long-running product that has been around almost 25 years. It’s both powerful and versatile at only 7” and just over 5lb. The max 425 ft lbs torque might not seem like much but it also has variable power and 8000 RPM which more than makes up for it.
The performance is seamless and reliable. This factor alone made us give Ingersoll the best pneumatic wrench award.
There’s an adjustable power regulator and an option for reverse while choosing the power output. It has a patented impact system that uses twin hammer mechanism and a unique construction that breaks down into 2 pieces.
Cons
The sleek handle looks great but can end up slick and hard to hold and there’s no noise reduction included so it’s quite loud in comparison.
The trigger is a little poor in quality and is the first thing to break but it’s repairable.

Ultimate Pneumatic Impact Wrench Buyers Guide
If you are a professional or you fix your machines, then you might have experienced the fact that working in tight spaces, with rusted or corroded parts or in tight spaces are extremely tough. They often will leave you with broken tools, busted or skinned knuckles, broken tools and hampering schedule as they consume much time for simple jobs.
None of this is your fault; even some of the most experienced professionals face such difficulties regularly. There is another set of problems which you often face these include difficulties in tightening loose bolts which are left as under tightened or over torquing of some screws which snap their heads.
In both of the above cases, the job gets highly complicated and consumes much time than typical examples, thus decreasing your overall productivity.
What’s the solution to the above problems?
The Answer is a powerful Air Impact Wrench which can solve both of the issues. It can generate much larger torques which impossible to just achieve by hands thus enabling you to tighten almost any kind of bolts easily.
Secondly, with its controlled torque, you can avoid over-torquing of bolts. Also, it can complete the works in a matter of minutes which would take hours by hands. So now you can understand how a heavyduty air impact wrench comes to save the day.
What is an Air Impact Wrench?
An air impact wrench is automatic socket wrench tool which is engineered to deliver high torque output and requires minimum exertion by the user.
It generates an enormous amount of torque which is far more in comparison to that of a cordless or electric and miles ahead of the torque produced by hands. Also, there are features such as pre-adjusting the torque limit to prevent over-torquing and direction of the torque can be changed just by the flip of a switch.

Working Mechanism – Does It Really Work?
Well if you look in the market then you can find air tools in different shapes, some of them are designed like that of a pistol others might seem like a screwdriver. Let me make something clear, whatever they may look like, but they all work similarly and on precisely on the same principle.
Every impact wrench consists of a motor (rotating mass) which rotates by the pressurized air. This rotating mass exerts a force onto an anvil which is located at the end of the wrench. This creates a sudden intense torque and a twisting motion in small bursts of power which is used to rotate the output shaft.
The small hammer mechanisms that strikes the anvil connected to the drive, which in turn transfers this force onto socket tighten the bolt or o break the bolt loose. During the operation, it’s held firmly and pressed against the bolt which provides sufficient friction for gripping the bolt.
Why do you need Air impacts?
I can give lots and lots of reasons to have a heavy duty air impact wrench kit in your home, but let’s be focused on some of the major ones.
Efficiently and easily removing Machine tightened Nut-bolts: There are nuts which have been bolted by machine, such bolts cannot be loosened by hands. Even if you can, it will consume a lot of time. These bolts and screws can be undone easily and quickly with the help of an air impact wrench.
Working with bigger bolts: When you are installing brackets shelves that are going to support heavy weight, they require bigger bolts which cannot be easily be tightened by hand wrench. In this situation, an air impact wrench would be great.
Working with engines, cars and lawn movers: These are few areas where you cannot compromise on the quality of the job. So you cannot merely depend on hand wrench as if bolt comes out it can lead sever accident. Air impact wrenches can easily tight these bolts to required level without much stress.
These are only a few examples; there are countless out benefits that you get with an air impact wrench. We will have a discussion about them at some later point in time.
Major Applications Of The Air Wrench
The use of these air impact wrenches is simply limitless, they have revolutionized working process and reduced the time requirements for a job. Some of the significant fields where they are utilized are mentioned below.
Automobile Industry: Talking about their application over here, they are used right from the assembling engine to putting together the entire automobile precisely.
Construction business: Here we require them now and then for various purposes such as attaching fittings, installing windows or standing supporting frames and structure.
Equipment maintenance: If maintenance is your line of work then this is a must-have tool for you. It is the most valuable tool will ever come across.
Automobile repair: Guess what you are going to need when opening a lug nut, or a rusted bolt or fasteners which are over torqued.
Well, these are only some field, these wrenches have some other applications in the day to day life.
What To Look While Choosing
There are many factors involved in choosing the air impact wrench. The type of job which you are going to perform primarily determines the kind of wrench you need. Ideally, you must have a look at the below mention features.
1. Torque: An impact wrench is known by the amount of torque which it can generate. Higher the torque rating easier will be a job completed. This also improves the capability of the wrench. Higher torque gives you the ability to remove and install fasteners swiftly and without breaking a sweat. Consider a minimum of 700 ft.lbs of torque for your tool.
2. Weight: It comes in similar weight configurations as that of cordless impact wrenches. There are a lot of models available around the 5lbs mark. Try to go for a model with slightly lower weight and more significant on the power option. As it will be easy to work long hours with the lighter machine, also they can be controlled & handled easily.
3. Price: It is the most deciding factor to while purchasing any product, first identify your needs and them how much you can afford. You can find some decent models in a range of 100-200$ which is a great deal for the money.
4. Air Compressor requirement: Before selecting the compressor just have a look at PSI and CFM rating of your wrench. Then get a compressor that has PSI and CFM ratings slightly higher. That will surely deliver the best performance.
5. Size: The size of the wrenches is not a big deal over here but what you need to look is the size of the air tank. It is not designed to be taken to different work locations but sees how you can move it around in? Usually, we say for size “the smaller, the better.” Search for dimensions of the tank such that it comfortably fits in your workspace.
6. Power regulator: Various models come with a power regulator to adjust the torque requirement for a particular job. As these wrenches dish out high torque, so a power regulator is must to carry out the smaller tasks easily.
7. Reliability: If your work depends on the wrench so much, try to look for a model widely used by people and with a maximum number of user reviews. Some products comes with a limited warranty. You should look for warranty period when you choose. This way it would be quite easy to get a quality product.
8. Drive size: This depends on the type of job you perform, a bit famous drive among users is the 1/2″ size takes care of most of the jobs besides 1/3” is also a popular choice but it has lesser torque rating.
9. Noise Suppression technology: If you are going to work in a residential area then a noise from the impact wrench could disturb your neighbors for sure. So try to go for a model with Noise Suppression Technology to avoid complaints from others. Indeed it will cost a few extra bucks.
10. No load speed: No load speed is the speed in terms of revolutions per minute at which it turns without load; the best air impact wrenches for automotive usage have a no-load speed in 8000 – 15000 rpm.
11. Ergonomics: A compact impact wrench which fits better in your hand will give you better work experience. As it will provide better balance and reduce strain and fatigue while working.
12. Warranty: When you are about to purchase equipment which would use a lot, its warranty and maintenance become one of the most concerned points. Depending on the manufacturer to manufacturer the warranty varies. Try to avoid the model with the limited warranty period. But obviously added warranty comes at an increased cost, so look what you wish for.
So now you know exactly what features you need while selecting your new pneumatic impact wrench. This guide gives you the complete idea of what to look for while making the purchase. Identify your job requirements and the feature that must be there to serve them.
Choosing the best one is one of the most challenging things. So carefully decide your budget. And select the only features that you need and don’t get carried away while looking at features which may be of hardly any use to you. Read the air impact wrench review of the most popular brands in the market before deciding what model you need.
Conclusion
If you’re price conscious but still want performance go for the IR 231C, it’s a longtime workhorse that produces what it says it does, unlike the Bostitch which is questionable. For high performance, the IR 2315 can’t be beaten because of the dual-clutch system, but it’s also costly. The IR 2315 is also the most durable, though the 231C isn’t far behind. Overall, Ingersoll Rand is the all-around winner when it comes to picking the best pneumatic impact wrench. Check out our Air Impact Wrench Comparison Chart for Quick selection.

LeBron James is Finally Showing His Age
As LeBron James rumbles through his 15th season as an NBA phenom, with enough outward dominance to fill seven-year veterans smack dab in the center of their prime with envy, something feels slightly off.
At 33 years old, James remains the best player in the world and an MVP candidate, averaging his most points since 2010, with the third-highest True Shooting percentage and best assist rate of his Hall-of-Fame career. Compare his arc to others who’re this deep into their journey, and those numbers are obscene.
Only six players in NBA history have averaged at least 30 minutes and 20 points in their 15th season. Look how they stack up against LeBron. Furthermore, nobody else in league history has played more than 9000 playoff minutes before their 15th year. Kobe Bryant and Scottie Pippen are the only two players to cross the 8000-minute mark in their first 15 seasons. James’ combination of durability and excellence is unprecedented and mind melting.
But two qualities that have long separated James from every other player in the universe just aren’t there this year. The first is simple: LeBron’s presence is the tide that raises all boats. His teams have been dramatically better with him on the court since he was 19 years old, a byproduct of his ability to imprint unparalleled intellect and force onto every possession.
This year, primarily thanks to the roster not executing a defensive scheme that doesn’t even suit its personnel, Cleveland is not only barely outscoring opponents with James on the floor, they’re also microscopically better (again: on defense and in tiny segments of every game that are against opposing bench units) when he sits.
It’s impossible to blame LeBron for any or all of this disparity. The talent around him hasn’t been this feeble in eight years. But a closer look at that second separating factor is more interesting.
Photo by Brad Rempel-USA TODAY Sports
James is Hercules. Not only is he bigger, faster, and stronger than whoever’s trying to guard him, but as his opponent begins to tire, the four-time MVP has enough endurance to shift into ninth gear. He doesn’t know what the word exhausted means, or how slowly rising to his feet when a referee’s 10 count reaches eight even feels. Stamina is his second wife.
But so far this season, admittedly in a small sample-size, we might finally be witnessing LeBron in his most vulnerable state. This isn’t to say he’s struggling or inferior to anyone who shares the court when he’s on it. Everything is relative, and the only standard he’s failed to meet is the ostensibly impossible one that he himself has set. James has played in eight games on the second night of a back-to-back this season. In them, Cleveland’s offensive rating is a pathetic 100.1 when he’s on the floor, and his True Shooting percentage is 54.5.
Juxtapose those numbers with the 33 games he’s played with one or two days of rest before, and we begin to see that LeBron might be slowing down. On those nights his offensive rating is around 115 (that’s…elite) and his True Shooting percentage climbs 10 points.
Essentially, when James has time to relax he’s about as efficient as Kyle Korver. When he doesn’t, he’s Mario Hezonja. Most of this is due to a gap in his three-point percentage, which is dreadful on the tail end of a back-to-back and otherwise above 40 percent.
For anyone else this isn’t news: Rest = Beneficial! But throughout his career, particularly since he re-joined the Cavaliers, it’s a law that hasn’t applied to LeBron. He was superhuman in a dozen games played on the second night of a back-to-back last season, dominating even more so than when he had a day or two off to recuperate. Cleveland’s offense was a force with him on the floor and he was never more accurate beyond the arc.
In 2016, Cleveland’s offense as a whole was noticeably worse without any rest, but James’s individual numbers didn’t suffer all that much compared to previous seasons. Go back to what’s arguably his pinnacle as a member of the Miami Heat, and LeBron was Arnold Schwarzenegger circa 1984-1987 on the second night of a back-to-back, pummeling the schedule into submission, exhibiting zero fall-off regardless of what stood in his team’s path. Everything is different this year.
Right now, the Golden State Warriors are 7-2 and +60 on the second night of a back-to-back. The Boston Celtics are -15 with a 5-3 record. The Houston Rockets are 3-3 and -10. The San Antonio Spurs are 6-4 and +18. The Toronto Raptors are 3-3 and +25. In other words, every team that has at least a puncher’s chance of winning the title is .500 or better in these tough conditions.
Meanwhile, the Cleveland Cavaliers are 3-5 with losses against the Orlando Magic, Brooklyn Nets, New York Knicks, Celtics, and Indiana Pacers. In those eight contests they’ve been outscored by 36 points.
There are a few explanations for this. Nearly all of them came without Isaiah Thomas on the floor and a few didn’t feature Tristan Thompson (a 6’9” shot of espresso who helps erase fatigue). Most of Cleveland’s new faces are also, well, pretty old. Dwyane Wade, Jeff Green, and Jose Calderon aren’t the difference-makers James is used to having by his side.
It all might’ve come to a head during a recent loss against Indiana, in which James played 40 minutes one night after a humiliating blowout loss to the Kyle Lowry-less Toronto Raptors. LeBron’s burst in the second half was noticeably lesser on both ends compared to the first two quarters. Watch how intense he is here denying the ball from Bojan Bogdanovic.
And here, one step ahead of his opponent as a weak-side defender, James perfectly times his rotation to disrupt Darren Collison’s entry pass and steal the ball.
Compare that focus to what happened on the third quarter’s very first possession. Domas Sabonis rolls into the paint and catches the ball at the free-throw line. He looks to his left and notices Victor Oladipo is tightly covered by J.R. Smith, sees Thaddeus Young is guarded down low, and then finds Bogdanovic wide open in the opposite corner.
James overhelps in the paint (after Love recovers back to Sabonis, Jae Crowder should drop back down to guard Young, or vice versa) and then doesn’t even take a step towards his man, who’s shooting 40 percent on wide open threes this season. Not great.
But the most disturbing slide has come in an area where he normally reigns supreme: the rim. James’ field goal percentage inside the restricted area is still an absurd 72.1 percent on the second night of a back-to-back, but it soars to 78.6 and 78.9 percent when he has one and two days off, respectively.
Here’s a play specifically designed to clear one side of the floor and provide LeBron with a runway to attack. It’s a misdirection that starts with Crowder and Love pretending to set a stagger screen for Calderon on the right side of the floor.
But once the Pacers shift over to defend it, Calderon whips the ball back to James, where all he has to do is get by Bogdanovic. It doesn’t end as it should. Here are a couple more examples from the same night.
The percentage of LeBron’s shots at the rim goes up by about six percent when he’s not playing on the second night of a back-to-back, too. Instead of attacking Al Jefferson with a straight left-hand line drive (which he successfully pulled off earlier in the same game), here’s a play where James snakes back to his right, fails to turn the corner, then settles for a contested step-back along the baseline.
This is obviously just one game in the middle of a long regular season. James still exists within the 0.1 percent of the top 0.1 percent athletes in the world, no matter who he’s playing, what day it is, or what he did to his body during the previous 24 hours. But it also reminds us that he’s an aging human being who’s no longer the tireless rhinoceros we’re used to. That sounds like pretty good news for the rest of the Eastern Conference.
But of course, a slight crack on your iPhone screen isn’t the same as it spontaneously combusting in your hand. Cleveland only has 13 back-to-backs on their schedule this season, which is the league’s fewest. The Cavs also altered their travel schedule to allow more sleep and assuage the recovery process.
Even though we’ve never seen him “struggle” like this before, LeBron (and the Cavaliers) will have a day or two off between every game throughout the playoffs. That means, for at least one more run, the NBA still has to go through King James. Anyone who watched him recover to pin Kevin Durant’s layup against the backboard on Martin Luther King Jr. Day knows his athletic ceiling is still ridiculous enough to alter a game. But for the first time in well over a decade, the 13-time All-Star is beginning to reveal the type of slight imperfections that almost make him look mortal.

Road Trip to Bir Billing It is often said that good ideas strike your mind while you’re under the shower or you’re lying on your bed. It was one of those Sunday afternoons when I was on my bed and was thinking how to celebrate the birthday of fellow wraveler Harman. And then I was enlightened by this idea of why not do something which is loved the most by us? TRAVEL AND EXPLORE! So I discussed the same with him, and he was more than happy to hear it. He had his birthday on 18th of April. So, I and seven other wravelers left for a road trip to Bir-Billing on 16th April. We had planned to do paragliding in Bir-Billing which is paragliding capital of India and then visit a remote village called Lohardi in Barot Valley Day 1: We hired a taxi and started our road trip to Bir-Billing. Bir is around 200 km from Jalandhar. We headed towards Hoshiarpur and then towards Mata Chintapurni. In between, we had our first stop on a very famous place called Bombay Picnic Spot, had our breakfast and got refreshed for the journey ahead. Few of the wravelers including me utilized this time to have some fun rides and swings. [caption id="attachment_1138" align="aligncenter" width="640"] Six of the eight wravelers posing for a photograph in Bombay Picnic Spot[/caption]   We resumed our journey towards Kangra district, and the beautiful Dhauladhar ranges followed us everywhere. When we reached Kangra, we could see those beautiful snow-capped mountains of Dhauladhar ranges right in front of us. Few of the wravelers were trying to locate the Triund Hill. Mesmerized by the beauty of nature everyone got into a good mood that soon everyone started murmuring the song that was being played on the stereo. And later everyone started singing loudly, enjoying the lovely view that kept following us. We reached Baijnath, a small town in Kangra district and is home to world famous Shiv temple. It was built 5000 years ago in a single night, as told by the locals. Interestingly,  a day lasted for six months and so did the night, when it was built. [caption id="attachment_1139" align="aligncenter" width="640"] View from Baijnath temple[/caption] We continued our road trip to Bir-Billing and took a left turn to reach Bir; it is around 14 km from Baijnath. While we were on this road, we could see many gliders in the sky, and it gave that amazing and a little anxious feeling to everyone. On reaching our destination, we had lunch, and everyone went to relax in the rooms and freshened up for the trek. After around 40 minutes, everyone was geared up for the trek. We had taken the important things required for trek such as torches, water bottles. We were running out of time to complete 10 km trek from Bir to Billing, so the guide asked us to cover a little distance by car and then hike so that we could reach Billing by sunset. [caption id="attachment_1140" align="aligncenter" width="640"] Wravelers ready to trek.[/caption] Distance from Bir to Billing by road is around 16 km. But if you trek from Bir to Billing it is cut short to 10 km. As advised by the guide we covered the initial few km by car and then we got down near a small gate, which marked the beginning of our trek. Trekking distance from there was around 3-4 km. It was already 5:30 pm, everyone clicked photos and started their trek towards Billing. [caption id="attachment_1141" align="aligncenter" width="576"] Gate where we began our trek.[/caption] The initial path of the trek was all covered with dry leaves which made the way look breath-taking. The trail was steep and rocky. Wravelers kept relaxing after every 20-30 mins and never missed a chance of clicking photographs at every beautiful view. According to me, the more altitude you are at more is the probability of finding those breath-taking views.  It was already dusk, and we still had to cover a lot of distance to reach Billing. Many gliders were seen paragliding from Billing to Bir around sunset time. I am sure that is time best time to take the flight. Soon we had to use our torches to keep walking as the sunlight slowly faded away. Everyone was trying to capture the terrific scenes in their cameras, but I preferred capturing the same in my memory. It was completely dark by then. We kept walking ahead slowly. I could hear those melodious voices which were a feast for our ears. It started getting cold there. It was then I realized that this is the place I belong. I like everything about that environment. I was very thankful to God who gave me a chance to be here and somehow saved me from scorching conditions down there in Punjab. Soon we reached Billing. To fill our hungry stomach, we found a small tea shop which also served Maggi, omelet and other necessary items. Everyone ordered for Maggi and omelet. While Maggi was getting prepared, all the wravelers wore their warmers. I started staring at the galaxy of stars which looked way too beautiful. I was kind of jealous of the locals who saw it daily. Soon the Maggi and omelet were served to everyone, and without a doubt, it was delicious. We all headed towards our tents. We put our bags in the tents and then came out to sit around the bonfire arranged by the guides. Every wraveler had a great time during the bonfire. We met with another group from Delhi. Everyone introduced themselves and then had some good laugh together. As few of them were also Punjabi, we couldn’t have missed this opportunity, and soon everyone started doing Bhangra. There was no light, no water there in Billing. It was that kind of evening which I have always dreamt of. There were hardly any networks there, so I switched off my phone so that I could enjoy this evening to the fullest. After some time we were called for dinner. Well, I never expected to be served with chicken at an altitude of around 8000 ft. We were served with rajma chawal and dal. The food was delicious, and then we walked around the area for a while. We called the night early as we had long schedule the following day. Everyone went into their dome tents and had some good sleep dreaming about their first paragliding experience the next day.   Day 2: Billing is the take-off site and is located at an altitude of 2430 m (almost 8000 ft). There is only one village ahead of Billing. Locals also told us that many treks start from that village. We all woke up early and had a little walk around the hill. All the wravelers got freshened up and sat together for tea. Having meals in hills is always fun when you’re on such location. An average food also tastes so good. Well, that was the best tea I ever had. How would it feel sipping the hot tea with spectacular views of Himalayas right in front of you, with your favorite music playing in your ears? We were served with Maggi. Guide over there told that light food is necessary before taking the flight. After having Maggi, me and few other wravelers saw guides packing the dome tents. We were keen to know as to how to pack and set those tents. So we spent next half an hour doing the same. All the people were polite and helpful.   Wravelers then started walking towards the take-off site in Bir-Billing from the camping site. We took few photographs on the way. After we were there, we keenly watched the gliders. I was a bit nervous initially, but I knew I could do it because everyone else was already doing it. Well, that was just a way to console me. But it takes a lot of guts to jump from 8000 ft, although it’s quite safe. Soon the pilots arrived, and all the wravelers got ready for paragliding at Billing, but we all were a little nervous. I then met Rajiv bhaiya, the one who was to accompany me as a pilot during my paragliding flight. He assured me that I would do well so I should stop worrying. He guided me with the necessary information and soon there I was positioned to take off. The glider caught the right winds, and I could feel it over my head, and then Rajiv asked me to run. I tried hard and took two steps and jumped. I had put my feet in the air and then had no idea as to what happened for next two minutes. The next moment I found myself flying around the mountains like a bird. I was flying around the Dhauladhar ranges, and I could see those snow-capped mountains so close to me. Rajiv then asked me if I was okay? Although I had a fast heart beat and was bit nervous but I didn’t want him to know that because as I wanted to fly anyhow. I didn’t want him to reduce the time of my flight. He then performed a stunt called ‘Acrobatic,' in which the landing time is reduced rapidly. In this act, the glider gets tilted and starts rotating in a circular motion in a downward direction. While all this I wanted to speak, but I couldn’t. I could only feel my heart rate increasing. Finally, we landed safely. I felt so relieved when I was on the ground. I spent next 15 minutes wondering as to what exactly I witnessed. It was one hell of an experience.

American Boarder Peak, Nooksack / North Cascades
September 1-3, 2012
American Boarder Peak (7994′)
Armed with a favorable Labor Day Weekend weather forecast, Fay and Eileen and I headed into the Nooksack Mountains to tackle American Border Peak.  This visually striking landmark of frightfully steep rock has had a grip on me for many years and on Eileen for the past several years.  Fay climbed it back in 2008 and enjoyed the trip enough to make a second ascent with us.  We were delighted to have her company—in no small part because the overall climb has a reputation for being long, complex, and fairly difficult.  In the end, I personally found American Border Peak to be very long, very complex, and quite challenging but not unreasonable, with lots of exposure and many interesting terrain features along the way (for example, not just ONE but TWO cannonholes on the standard Southeast Face route!).  The convoluted nature of the summit climb has a character more like Cascadian mountains that are much larger, such as Mt. Goode, Mt. Stuart, or Bonanza Peak, and the Great Chimney feels like something from the Canadian Rockies or Alps.  That's saying a lot for a sub-8000-foot mountain.
Day 1:  We drove to bustling Twin Lakes, arriving around noon, and tried to find a parking place—along with everyone else from the Bellingham area, it seemed.  The day was surprisingly cool compared to our recent summer weather.  We hiked between the beautiful blue lakes and onward to High Pass, then down to Gargett Mine for a brief historical sidetrip.  Beckey mentions that this mine makes a good base camp, but we saw room for only a few bivy sacks.  As such, we dropped several hundred feet below the mine to a pretty little green basin (2.3 hours from car) and carved out two tent sites in the gravel bars.  The evening was pleasantly mild and completely mosquito-free.
Day 2:  We awoke to clear skies overhead but boiling clouds behind Tomyhoi Peak to the west.  Fay mentioned hearing some weather chatter about a low-pressure zone forming to the northwest, so we hoped this didn’t become problematic later.  Leaving camp about 7:30am, we began what Beckey aptly calls a long “footsore” traverse across the western flank of Mt. Larrabee.  This traverse involves a full mile of sidehilling across steep slopes of talus, scree, heather, and herbaceous plants, crossing Larrabee’s timbered southwest rib in the first ¼ mile.  Our route gradually rose to a small scree chute ending at a 6200-foot  notch in Larrabee’s rocky northwest rib (1.5 hours from camp).
On the other side of the notch, we descended a steep dirt chute between snow and rock, then contoured at 5800 feet above a small moraine bowl (Fay’s previous campsite for this climb).  Even after 3 hours of travel, our peak still looked far away at this point.  We angled northward from the bowl, going up and across a series of steep gullies and ribs.  Eventually, we reached a 6840-foot saddle (4.1 hours from camp) on the ridge crest directly south of American Border Peak.  At this “lower south saddle,” we got our first close-up view of American Border Peak, as well as our first view of the legendary Mt. Slesse across Silesia Creek Valley.  Neither mountain gave me a feeling of confidence and certainty, but I knew my chances were better with the former than with the latter.
We headed up the ridge crest on a faint climber’s path for 200 yards or so and then started traversing rightward on slabby red ledges until close to a rock rib.  The angle steepened considerably here, but we were able to scramble up a small Class 3.5 rock cleft closely left of the rock rib.  More slabby ledges above ended in a flat step atop the rib, from where we traversed across a down-sloping bench to the mouth of a steep snow gully.  The snow had melted enough to leave a tall snow fin in the middle and a dirty moat on each side.  Fay chose to ascend the left-hand moat, whereas Eileen and I ascended the right-hand moat partway before climbing through an interesting cannonhole in the snow fin.  We all rejoined at a high southeast notch and cast eyes on the Great Chimney across an intervening chasm.  My neck hair bristled at the sight of this vertical slot cutting through the southeast face;  it was straight as an arrow for 150 feet, and it looked dark as a coffin inside.  We have to climb THAT?  I was waiting for Fay to casually announce that “oh, it lays back when you get closer,” but she never did.
We roped up and crossed a narrow, undulating, highly exposed ledge ending at the base of the chimney.  Thankfully, it didn’t appear quite as intimidating from here;  in fact, it turned out to be the highlight of the entire trip.  Because we’d brought only two 25-meter ropes for the three of us, we had to climb the chimney in two short pitches with an intermediate belay at the midpoint.  The first pitch has some initial Class 5.3 moves to gain entry into the chimney bottom, followed by a series of easier chockstone steps.  The second pitch includes a smooth Class 5.4 face climb to surmount a large chockstone, and it ends at a ridiculously small cannonhole that requires you to push your pack up ahead while you execute a sequence of twisting and grunting maneuvers to squirm through (rated Class 5.monkey).  Even Fay, whose weight tops 100 pounds only after a big dinner, had some trouble here;  this cannonhole would be extremely difficult for a large climber!
Just above the cannonhole, we went left around a corner and scrambled up a sketchy, dirty, slabby trough that ended at a sandy saddle high on the peak’s south ridge.  From this “upper south saddle,” we scrambled over and around a long row of horns and gaps.  The northernmost and highest horn is steep but fairly solid rock with a dramatically exposed step-across move in the middle.  We topped out at 4:15pm (8.4 hours from camp).  The summit register was a small booklet left by Fay during her 2008 climb.  There was a 2009 ascent, no ascents in 2010 or 2011, and then one ascent last month.  Due to the late hour and the arrival of dark clouds from the west, we limited our stay to 15 minutes, departing at 4:30pm.
We scrambled back to the upper south saddle and made one rappel down the slabby trough.  Our first 75-foot rappel down the Great Chimney involved squeezing back through the cannonhole—probably the craziest rappel I’ve ever done—and our second 75-foot rappel (from a mid-chimney chockstone) ended at the narrow ledge.  We carefully crossed back to the high southeast notch and made another rappel down the snow gully, going through the snow cannonhole halfway down (why stop at just ONE cannonhole rappel?).  More down-climbing led to the southeast rib, where we made one last rappel through the rock cleft.  Because darkness was now setting in, it was inevitable that our rope would get stuck as I was pulling it down.  Several fruitless attempts to retrieve it ended with a decision to untie the midpoint knot and sacrifice one rope to the mountain.
Using the last few minutes of dusk, we hurried down the remaining ledges and bootpath to reach the lower south saddle at 8:30pm (3.9 hours from summit).  We donned headlamps and prepared for the 1½-mile traverse back to camp.  Clearly, it was to be a long night, starting with a tricky descent of the steep gullies and ribs leading down to the moraine bowl.  After what seemed like an eternity of groping around on steep, confusing terrain, we crossed the bowl with great relief.  It didn’t take long to climb back up to the 6200-foot notch, arriving at 11:30pm (6.9 hours from summit).
Our long sidehill return across Larrabee’s western flank was aided by a full moon rising above the ridge, but the nighttime dew made the herbaceous vegetation slippery and treacherous;  after numerous slips and falls, this turned into a  “footsore and hipsore” traverse.  Some confusion in the final timber rib cost us an extra 30 minutes, so it was 1:45am when we finally stumbled into camp (9.2 hours from summit) at the end of this wonderfully convoluted, crazy, and tiring18-hour day.  I vaguely recall dry clothes…dinner… hot drinks…lights out at 3:00am.  Ahhh!
Day 3:  We slept in until 9:00am and slowly worked through our morning routine.  It was 11:30 when we finally started heading back to the trailhead, passing many Labor Day hikers along the way.  One hiker/climber-looking fellow was particularly interested in what we’d been doing with ropes and helmets way back thataway.  “We climbed American Border Peak,” Eileen responded with great satisfaction.  He scrutinized the three of us for several moments and then concluded, “No, you’re joking, aren’t you?”  Oh well, I guess we just don’t look the part.
Approximate stats:  10 miles traveled;  6400 feet gained and lost.

Best Pneumatic Impact Wrench 2018 – 10 Best Air Impact Wrench
Air wrenches are the most powerful on the market, and while having a noisy compressor is often undesirable it’s the only way you’ll get a truly powerful tool. There are loads of options when buying a wrench but the best pneumatic wrench will remove that tough nut fast. When looking for an air wrench you’ll need to start with how much power you need. That means looking at torque and minimal effort on your part. Whether you want a reliable and well-known brand or a bargain entry level wrench you’re going to want the best pneumatic wrench for your money.
The difference between electric wrenches and pneumatic wrenches are that the pneumatics are powered by compressed air. These also require an extra air compressor and not just a battery or plug. There are 5 common sizes ranging from 0.25-1” drives and larger drives can exert torque as high as 3,000ft.lb. The best pneumatic wrench can last all day as long as the compressor is running but still use the same hammer and anvil principal that electric wrenches use. The biggest disadvantage to pneumatic wrenches is that it’s often difficult to control the power, and with the higher power it’s easy to strip out or break a screw if you’re not careful.

Top 5 Best Pneumatic Wrench Reviews
1. BOSTITCH BTMT72391 1/2-Inch – Best Air Impact Wrench For Home Use
Tumblr media
131 Reviews
BOSTITCH BTMT72391 1/2-Inch Impact Wrench
Twin Hammer Mechanism
Aluminum Body
Adjustable Power Regulator
Bottom Handle Exhaust
Touch Control Trigger
$129.99
Buy on Amazon
Pros
This wrench has power and performance in a durable wrench with a 1/2” drive.

706 Reviews
AIRCAT 1150 Killer Torque 1/2-Inch Impact Wrench, Black
sheer power and performance of 1,295 Feet-pounds (ft-lb) of loosening torque and Max. Torque 900 ft-lbs
1,400 Blows Per Minute makes this the strongest hard hitting Twin Hammer 1/2 Impact Wrench on the market
15-Percent larger rotor creates unmatched power
Patented quiet technology at 86 decibels
2 year parts and labor warranty
$175.01
The rating is also misleading as the wrench is only really functional up to about 500ft.lb.

  3. Ingersoll-Rand 2135TiMAX 1/2-Inch Air Impact Wrench
Tumblr media
395 Reviews
Ingersoll-Rand 2135TiMAX 1/2-Inch Air Impact Wrench
780-foot-pounds max power
New professional touch trigger with a wider range of power regulator settings in forward
Patented push button forward/reverse provides maximum control
Weighs just 3.95-pounds
Designed to last and backed by the MAX Protection Program that offers a free 2 year limited warranty with tool registration
$311.04
Buy on Amazon
Pros
IR is known as a great brand for tools, but it’s also costly because of that. With a lightweight tool at under 4lb this is a very maneuverable tool.
The wrench also has a standard 1/2” driver and is considered to be a very durable wrench if maintained properly.
Cons
While this has extra power it’s also not a twin anvil drive so while there’s extra torque it’s impact isn’t as great as the Aircat or the Bostitch and uses a 1/2” hose which actually seems to impede the power.

369 Reviews
NitroCat 1200-K 1/2-Inch Kevlar Composite Air Impact Wrench With Twin Clutch Mechanism
Most powerful 1/2-inch impact in its class; Durable Kevlar composite housing with ergonomically designed handle (reduces operator fatigue)
Patented quiet technology (86 decibels)
Hard hitting twin clutch mechanism
Patented through-the-handle exhaust to keep debris away from face
Easy operation flip lever - forward and reverse
$167.99
Buy on Amazon
Pros
The durable casing is made of kevlar so this can really take a beating. The 86 decibel quiet technology is comparable to that of the Aircat and uses similar technology.
The twin clutch mechanism adds extra power to it’s hitting capacity with a torque capacity of 1295ft.lb which is a step up from the dual hammer of the Aircat.

575 Reviews
Ingersoll Rand 231C Super-Duty Air Impact Wrench, 1/2 Inch
Classic, reliable design offers proven power, performance, and durability
Twin-hammer mechanism delivers a maximum torque of 600 foot-pounds
Adjustable power regulator provides easy control of torque output
Ergonomic 2-piece design is easy to operate and maintain
Arrives fully lubricated and ready for use out of the box
from $102.01
Buy on Amazon
Pros
This is a long-running product that has been around almost 25 years. It’s both powerful and versatile at only 7” and just over 5lb. The max 425ft.lb torque might not seem like much but it also has variable power and 8000 RPM which more than makes up for it.
The performance is seamless and reliable. This factor alone made us give Ingersoll the best pneumatic wrench award.
There’s an adjustable power regulator and an option for reverse while choosing the power output. It has a patented impact system that uses twin hammers and a unique construction that breaks down into 2 pieces.
Cons
The sleek handle looks great but can end up slick and hard to hold and there’s no noise reduction included so it’s quite loud in comparison.
The trigger is a little poor in quality and is the first thing to break but it’s repairable.

Ultimate Cordless Air Impact Wrench Buying Guide
The Answer is an Air Impact Wrench which can solve both of the issues. It can generate much larger torques which impossible to just achieve by hands thus enabling you to tighten almost any kind of bolts easily.
Secondly, with its controlled torque, you can avoid over-torquing of bolts. Also, it can complete the works in a matter of minutes which would take hours by hands. So now you can understand how an air impact wrench comes to save the day.
What is an Air Impact Wrench?
An air impact wrench is automatic socket wrench tool which is engineered to deliver high torque output and requires minimum exertion by the user.
It generates an enormous amount of torque which is far more in comparison to that of a cordless or electric impact wrench and miles ahead of the torque produced by hands. Also, there are features such as pre-adjusting the torque limit to prevent over-torquing and direction of the torque can be changed just by the flip of a switch.
Working Mechanism Of an Air Impact Wrench – Does It Really Work?
Well if you look in the market then you can find air Impact wrenches in different shapes, some of them are designed like that of a pistol others might seem like a screwdriver.
The mechanism houses a small hammer that strikes the anvil connected to the drive, which in turn transfers this force onto socket tighten the bolt or o break the bolt loose. During the operation, the wrench is held firmly and pressed against the bolt which provides sufficient friction for gripping the bolt.
Why do you need an air impact wrench?
I can give lots and lots of reasons to have an air impact driver in your home, but let’s be focused on some of the major ones.
Efficiently and easily removing Machine tightened Nut-bolts: There are nuts which have been bolted by machine, such bolts cannot be loosened by hands. Even if you can, it will consume a lot of time. These bolts and screws can be undone easily and quickly by the help of an air impact wrench.
Major Applications Of The Air Impact Wrench
What To Look While Choosing The an Air Impact Wrench
There are many factors involved in choosing the impact wrench for you.
2. Weight: An air impact wrench comes in similar weight configurations as that of cordless impact wrenches.
You can find some decent models in a range of 100-200$, they are also the decent air impact wrench for the money.
4. Air Compressor requirement: Before selecting the compressor just have a look at PSI and CFM rating of your wrench. Then get a compressor that has PSI and CFM ratings slightly higher than that of a wrench to deliver the best performance.
7. Reliability: If your work depends on the wrench so much try to look for a model widely used by people and with a maximum number of user reviews.
10. No load speed: No load speed is the speed in terms of revolutions per minute at which the wrench turns without load; the air impact wrenches for automotive usage have a no-load speed in 8000 – 15000rpm.
11. Ergonomics: A wrench which fits better in your hand will give you better work experience. As it will provide better balance and reduce strain and fatigue while working.
12. Warranty: When you are about to purchase equipment which would use a lot, its warranty and maintenance become one of the most concerned points. Depending on the manufacturer to manufacturer the warranty varies, try to go for a model with the larger warranty period. But obviously added warranty comes at an increased cost, so look what you wish for.
So now you know exactly what features you need while selecting your new cordless impact wrench. That’s the whole buying for an Air Impact Wrench; now you know most of the things about it. This guide gives you the complete idea of what to look for while making the purchase. Identify your job requirements and the feature that must be there to serve them.
Choosing the best air impact wrench is one of the most challenging things so carefully decide your budget. And select the only features that you need in your wrench and don’t get carried away while looking at features which may be of hardly any use to you.
Overall, Ingersoll-Rand is the all-around winner when it comes to picking the best pneumatic wrench.
