i think it is easy to project an american understanding of race/racism onto relations in other parts of the world (easy as in helps build solidarity) but i also think it would do all parties a great service to try and understand the history of racial and religious conflict in said region. and to also decenter american ways of thinking where they don’t always belong

#text #especially given how racist a lot of zionist anti-arab sentiment is #it is easy to see and try to explain this as white colonizers vs brown indigenous population (and that’s not all false!)#but the actual complexity of it lies in history - something i think it would also do everyone a great service to read #i honestly think americans cannot really comprehend ethnonationalist settlers also being part of an oppressed group #at least in america #i’m american too i obviously also sometimes fall into these patterns of thinking #the point is not that some of the settlers are blonde and blue eyed the point is they are settlers. do you know what i mean #colonialism is not only carried out by white people and that is a hard conversation to have #not only in the context of palestine but also in other countries where there are very few white people #but still indigenous populations are in danger and forests burn and resources are sucked from the earth
