No one move I’m thinking abt Melissa Hastings again. Imagine writing a character that’s often framed as suspicious but in such a compelling way that you just want to know what. is. going. on. And then 5 seasons in having the reveal actually be coherent and interesting and fully fleshing out the character. AND THEN NEVER DWELLING ON THE IMPLICATIONS. JUST COMPLETELY FORGETTING ABT IT.
#the pll hyper fixation rlly never leaves does it#it’s just like what a character#Melissa Hastings#the Melissa killed Bethany twist was the only good and coherent plot twist post s4#it was so perfect#it explained why Melissa was so convinced Ian didn’t kill Alison#but they never built on it!!!!!

How The AD Reveal Should Have Gone (Alex's Backstory)
When Alex left her adopted home, she begged/borrowed/stealed/etc enough money to get to the states in order to find her real parents. During this time, she met Wren, and he became infatuated with her. This was 2 years before Ali disappeared.
Alex, at first, thought Jessica was Mary. She visited the DiLaurentis household and explained who she was and the horrible life she had endured. Jessica played the part of Mary, internally freaking out about the amount of chaos Alex’s reveal would undoubtedly cause. She put Alex up in a hotel room while she asked her to be patient as she got up the nerve to explain to her family about Alex’s existence. At this point, Alex was not aware that she was a twin, let alone that her twin lived next door to her “Mom”. Jessica immediately went to Peter, and the two of them devised a plan. Jessica would use her authority on the board at Radley to commit Alex as someone with multiple personality. Peter, being genetically related, signed Alex in as “Bethany Young”. They used Alex’s true back story (one which Alex originally had no problem agreeing to) as proof that she had a mental break, complete with accent. Once Alex/Bethany was in Radley, Jessica kept tabs on her, and after the mind numbing drugs kicked in, would occasionally take Alex/Bethany on outtings. This is when she would insist Alex call her “Aunt Jessica”. This was also why Jessica had told Ali you can “never turn your back on a Hastings”, because she was well aware that she could never share her knowledge of Alex’s existence, and if Ali had ever seen Alex, she would think she was Spencer.
There were a few times that Alex/Bethany was able to escape.
The first time was Ian’s Halloween party. While there, she overheard Noel talk about his and Ali’s plan to scare the girls. At this point, she hadn’t yet seen Spencer. Alex had fuly intended to severely hurt/kill Ali in that abandoned house, though Ali was stronger that she thought. Once the girls were freed from the locked room, Alex finally saw Spencer and she seethed with rage. She realized the true reason behind Jessica betraying her, and instead of leaving town, as she had originally planned, she opted to go back to Radley and devise a new plan. Before she did, she befriended Ian, who was a member of the NAT club. At that point, she both flirted with Ian, as well as paid him with money provided by Wren, and convinced him to film Alison and her friends. He didn’t understand why “Spencer” wanted to be filmed, though Alex incorporated it as part of her flirting, telling Ian she wanted to see how Ian saw her in his eyes. Alex’s first priority, however, was still hurting Ali. Alex/Bethany would never forgive Jessica for having her wrongly commited. She starts writing to Ali, although when Ali visits Radley to see her, Alex has her roommate(Kimberly Brown) pretend to be “Bethany”. Ali, being the mean girl she was at the time, enjoys playing with her new toy.
When Ali begins to get “A” messages (from Mona), she begins to wonder if it isn’t Bethany sending them. She antagonizes Alex/Bethany through letters and “visits”, making things even worse than the already are. At the same time, Ali isn’t completely certain that “Bethany” is behind the threats, so after receiving the lipstick note on the mirror, she devies a plan to either expose Bethany or have her take her place. Ali drops of an exact duplicate of her outfit at Radley, with a note for Bethany to escape and come meet her so they can finally work things out. Ali figures she and Bethany can either hash things out for good, or that if someone is trying to kill her, having Bethany run around dressed as she is hedges her bets a little bit in case it is someone else threatening her.
At this point, Alison believes that the other Liars are innocent, and not the ones leaving messages. That said, she can not have them in her way for all that is about to go down that night. So, she drugs them. Meanwhile, Jessica receives a phone call that Alex/Bethany has escaped. She freaks out, and forbids Alison from leaving the house at all.
Spencer and Ali argue. Ali walks back towards her house and Spencer walks towards the woods/house. Melissa hears heard the argument between Ali and Spencer, as do the girls (Aria, Hanna, and Emily), in a drug induced haze. The girls arrive in the bushes in time to see someone dressed like Ali, hit Alison. Mrs. D also sees Alex hit Ali from the window. Mrs. D rushes from the house as Alex runs away. The girls, again drugged, begin to chase Ali’s assailant. Mrs. D, believing Ali dead, buries her. Mrs. Grunwald pulls Ali from the grave. The girls, chasing Alex through the woods, finally lap back around to the gazebo area and attack Alex. As they begin to attack her, they start to hallucinate that it is Alison, and finally stop. They leave Alex’s lifelss body in the gazebo area, and Melissa stumbles across it. Seeing only the clothes and hair, Melissa thinks Spencer killed Ali, and buries her to hide the evidence.
At this point, Alex’s roommate, Kimberly Brown, who had escaped from Radley with Alex, leaves their meeting spot and comes looking for Alex to figure out what is taking so long. She sees Melissa burying Alex, and as soon as Melissa leaves, she digs out the grave and saves Alex.
As it turns out, this was the worst mistake Kimberly could have made. Alex, now set on burning down everything to do with Spencer, and the other liars, kills Kimberly Brown on the spot, switches clothes with her, and buries Kimberly in the grave. That way, when her body is found, no one will expect she is alive and able to exact revenge. At this point, Alex still believes she has killed Alison.
Mona sees Ali walking along the road, sends her out of town. Ali knows for sure that someone is out to kill her, and that her Mom buried her without hesitation. There is no reason to stay.
Alex then spends the next year devising a plan to get revenge on the liars for trying to kill her. She enlists Wren to start dating Melissa, to get his way into the Hastings trust, and to learn more about Spencer. As it turns out, Wren starts falling for Spencer, which only makes Alex hate Spencer more.
She starts communicating (electronically) with Mona, Lucas, and Jenna, who she learned from the NAT tapes had hated Ali as much as she did, as was also picked on by the liars. When Aria returns to Rosewood, Alex gently nudges Mona to start sending A messages to the girls again. She tells Mona that she will be an outcast agin, now that the Liars will be together again. In essence, she sets Mona free on the girls to torture them, knowing at some point she will escalate the game to her own level.
When she notices the DiLaurentis house is sold, and that workers start to dig around the gazebo area, she knows she will need to get ahold of that body to switch around medical records. “Bethany Young” has to remain dead, or Jessica and/or Peter might start searching for her. She pays off some cops and people in the morgue and is able to alter paperwork, and steal the body.
She noticed Jessica and Charlotte together, and eventually figures out how Charlotte fits in to the story. When she first approahces Charlotte, Charlotte does not believe her. She thinks it is Spencer trying to figure out where Ali is, if Ali is alive, and that she still wants to find her and hurt her. Once Alex gains Charlotte’s trust, and Charlotte realizes how awful Ali was to Alex, Charlotte becomes a double agent, though doesn’t immediately tell Alex that Ali is still alive. (Alex is still wondering what happened to Ali’s body)
Alex tries to burn the girls to death in the lodge fire, and that is the night she realizes Ali is still alive. However Ali goes immediately back into hiding. Alex then spends Season 4 trying to find Ali, and using the Liars to do so. It is Alex that kills Mrs. D, and Mary takes the fall for her (as she did for Spencer with Eliot) Once Alex heard thought Mona (via Shana) that the girls found Ali, Alex knew that Mrs. D that had to die, because Alex couldn’t have Mrs. D spilling the secret that Spencer had a twin.
Alex has also realized that Charlotte had been lying to her about Ali, and that is why Charlotte agrees to “take the fall” as Big A- to protect Alex. Season 5 up to Charlotte’s reveal is about laying the groundwork to have Charlotte take the fall with everything wrong done towards the girls. At this point, Alex is mostly done with revenge, and just wants to live her life out with Wren, Mary, and eventually Charlotte (once she is released). Then Charlotte is killed, and Alex is denied her family. She thinks one of the Liars did it, though doesn’t know which one. She enlists the help of Mary, Eliot (Charlotte’s true love), and Wren to help figure out who killed Charlotte. Then... Alex starts to fall for Toby. While Alex had never really been jeaous of Spencer’s life before (I mean, who would with Peter as a father?), she did start to covet Toby. There were two problems here- Yvonne and Wren. Alex believed she could deal with Wren, though Yvonne would have to go. Therefore, she set up the car accident, and while Toby was knocked out (and before help arrived) further injured Yvonne so that her injuries were mortal.
Next, she had to convince Wren that she would kill Spencer, and take over her life, allowing her to be with Toby. This met with more resistance than she expected, and she eventually killed Wren, worried that he would tip Spencer off. Alex knows she is playing the long game with this, and uses Aria and Ezra’s wedding (with Toby’s return) as her in to fully take over as Spencer and work toward getting Toby back. As for Mary, it could go either way as to whether she knew Alex’s ultimate plan to take over as Spencer until the very end. I am going to say that until Spencer was kidnapped, Mary did not know, and by then, it was too late.

What I wish was revealed in the finale- Alex is involved in 'that night.'
Alex was was hit by the girls and buried that night, that’s why she wants revenge. She was buried by Melissa before Alison, hence the shallower grave. Bethany Young was buried afterwards.
Alex has been leading this from the beginning- Mona and CeCe were working for her. Mona's reasons why were the truth, CeCe’s were a vast exaggeration. She was actually a lot older than she said she was on the roof in 6x10, fixing a lot of age-related plot holes.
Here’s the story:
Alex found out about Spencer online and decided to go and meet her, buying a blonde wig so she wasn’t mistaken for being Spencer. CeCe was currently annoyed about being RECENTLY accused of pushing Marion off the roof, so was heading to Rosewood to see Mrs D and finally meet her sister and cousin. She had met Mary Drake in Radley and had seen pics of Spencer (as Mary had been in and out of Radley several times, and had already snuck into the Hastings house before the events of that night), so knew who Alex was as soon as she saw her due to being told by Mary that Spencer had a twin somewhere. She had 2 yellow tops as Mrs D had been uncertain of the size, though both fitted so she took a spare one incase one got dirty and she wanted to take pics of this family reunion. When she saw Alex on the bus, she gave her one of the yellow tops, and planned to ask Alison to put hers on when she got there. Bethany also had a yellow top as Mrs D had been having an affair with her father, and nothing says love like bulk buying clothing for all your potential teenage relatives.
So CeCe and Alex both wanted to meet their families. Sounds innocent enough right? This is where the girls come in.
It was already dark by the time they got to Rosewood, and they were unaware that Alison, Spencer and their friends were in Spencer’s barn. They decided that CeCe would find Alison, Alex would find Spencer and then they’d meet up. On her way to find Alison, CeCe ran into Melissa and, recognising her from the pictures, explained who she was and asked if she knew where Alison was. Melissa said they were in the barn and then went on a rant about Ian.
When Alex found Spencer, she was fighting with Alison. Alex watched and then followed Spencer about halfway across the DiLaurentis-Hastings backyard area before trying to talk to her. Spencer got freaked out, hit Alex with the shovel, and went back to the barn. Melissa saw all of this, realised Alex must be Spencer’s twin (she had already been told Spencer was Peter’s but not Veronica’s, as she had initially thought Spencer must be adopted due to being old enough to know Veronica had not been pregnant). Melissa buried Alex, and when CeCe came back across that part of the garden, she saw Alex’s hand and pulled her out. Both were now angry at Spencer.
Alison had planned to fake her death in an attempt to find out who A was (at the time, Alison’s A was Mona), and enlisted Grunwald to come and pick her up at a certain time.
CeCe found Mrs D, who informed her that Bethany had found out about the affair and escaped from Radley. CeCe knew that Bethany loved that yellow top, despite hating Mrs D, but didn’t know Alison was also wearing it that night. When she saw a person wearing that top from the back, she hit them to protect Mrs D whilst Alex hid and watched. Mrs D buried Ali and Wilden came to take CeCe back to Radley, though Alex was still hiding.
Mrs Grunwald showed up at the dedicated time, saw Alison’s hand, pulled her out and took her to the hospital.
Whilst this was happening, the real Bethany showed up, as did Mona, who saw her from behind and hit her thinking she was Alison. Alex saw this, and buried the body for her as she knew this was the person CeCe actually wanted dead. When she was talking to her, it became apparent that Mona thought this was Alison, and Alex didn’t tell her otherwise. Alex shared her anger at Spencer with Mona, and Mona told her about how Alison and the girls bullied her, and offered to share her revenge game. When Mona was driving home, she saw Alison, who had run from the hospital as they’d wanted to keep her overnight and call the police about what happened when she really just wanted to escape, and so Mona helped her escape and phoned Alex to tell her that Ali was alive (which Alex already knew). Before going back to London, Alex switched Bethany and Alison’s dental records to ensure that the body would be identified as Alison’s should it ever be found (as Mona didn’t actually know there was another body, she thought the only person to get hit was Ali and that she’d got out).
Mona and Alex told CeCe about their revenge plan, and CeCe wanted to join in because of what Spencer did to Alex. She then started receiving emails from Lucas, who she used to be friends with, detailing the bullying he received at the hands of Alison and the girls, and her wish to torment the girls increased further.
They offered Melissa the chance to join them on multiple occasions due to knowing she was angry that Ali kissed Ian, and then after finding out about Spencer kissing Wren and Ian. Melissa always declined due to her love for her sister, but was occasionally blackmailed into doing what they wanted. She couldn’t tell the police what she knew as she had found out that the police were corrupt and that Mrs D had paid Wilden to protect CeCe multiple times, so she knew that if she went to the police, the A Team would make things worse for Spencer and the girls. The A Team also knew that she’d buried Alex to protect Spencer, so didn’t want to get herself or Spencer into any legal trouble. She therefore had to find a way of protecting Spencer without turning the A Team in, which often involved following them around and sending people to spy on them, or even doing A-Team jobs which would hurt the girls, but not as much as if an actual member of the A-Team had done it. This is why Melissa said she’d been protecting Spencer since before it started and that ’[blood] can also be VERY slippery.’
Speaking of Wilden, making CeCe older on the roof means it’s possible that Wilden was a police officer at that time. CeCe lied about how old she was when Marion was pushed to make Ali feel sorry for her. Additionally, (and all credit goes to a Reddit user for this, I can’t remember who it was but it’s brilliant), Wilden was both in the class of 1996 as Hanna said in season 1, and went to high school with Melissa, as he graduated in 96 but went back when Melissa was there as an undercover cop to investigate something else (maybe something relating to Jason and drugs?) and this is how he became acquainted with Melissa.
Mona, CeCe and Alex had planned to start the A Game immediately, but then Alison helped Mona become popular, and Mona became friends with Hanna, so Mona asked them to leave it because she wanted a chance at being popular and having friends like she’d always wanted. CeCe and Alex couldn’t do anything without having Mona on board, as CeCe was locked in Radley and Alex was living in London, so they needed Mona’s inside knowledge. However, when Aria returned, Mona was reminded of all the bullying, saw the way Ezra looked at her in class and sent the first text. She then found a reason to text the others, both as revenge and in an attempt to scare them away from each other so she could keep Hanna to herself. However, her actions had the opposite effect, Hanna got closer to the girls, Mona got angry and her A actions escalated.
After a year of Mona keeping CeCe and Alex up to date on how it was going, Alex decided that she wanted to give Spencer another chance, as she was understandably confused when she saw another version of herself looking back at her. So she asked Mona to reveal herself to Spencer and offer Spencer the chance to join them. She did, and Spencer refused. Mona was committed to Radley, where her and CeCe were able to plan more easily and where Alex came to visit on a regular basis. It was Alex who Mona spoke to at the end of 2x25, as it was her that asked her to reveal herself to Spencer.
Whilst this was happening, Alex met Wren in London, fell in love with him, and realised that he knew Spencer and Melissa and often volunteered in Radley. She convinced him to talk to her and CeCe, and they convinced him to create a visitor’s pass for CeCe, which she could use with certain members of staff who didn’t know her as Charlotte in order to get both in and out of Radley as a visitor, as it is likely that not every member of staff knows every patient. This allowed CeCe to watch and interact with the girls, gaining more information for their revenge game.
After a while, the game became too dangerous, as CeCe and Alex kept wanting to pull bigger stunts. Mona realised that actually she just wanted to be friends with these girls and didn’t want to put them in danger any more. She left the game, and CeCe and Alex made her another of their victims.
Eventually, CeCe and Alex decided that the girls were getting too close, as the trail of people they’d paid to do things for them had started to backfire as the Liars began to discover the truth. They decided that if one of them confessed before they were discovered, then the subsequent apology and sob story would seem more believable, allowing one of both of them to pick up the game again when they were least expecting it if they deemed it necessary. CeCe exaggerated her story, making herself seem younger as a victim rather than the 20-something year old woman she actually was when Bethany pushed Marion off the roof. It worked, and the game ended until Alex got angry that CeCe was killed and wanted to know who did it, and then became obsessed with Spencer’s life and wanted to take her place.
All the money came from CeCe’s investments and money Alex stole from the rich adoptive parents who gave her up again (she went back years later and stole it out of anger).
The stuff done to Spencer when she was in London (such as the blood in the bag) was Alex.
Anyway, that’s just what I’ve come up with for now, I’d like to figure out a way to include things like the NAT club and suspicious actions of other characters at some point, but the main thing I wanted to do was find a way to link Alex back to the beginning and the other As, cover up some of the plot holes created by 6x10, and make it so at least one of the girls actually did something to warrant her getting so angry (I think being hit over the head and buried alive is enough to make a person pretty angry). Hope you liked my version of events anyway 😊

Pretty Little Liars Endgame Theory - A.D. is Spencer’s Twin (and Wren), and Charlotte’s Killer is Melissa
POSTED 6/06/2017 - Before 7x17 Aired
PLL blogs - Reblog for a follow! I want to lay out the evidence that is personally convincing to me for my (hopefully) final PLL theory. I believe fully that Melissa is Charlotte’s killer. That seems clear to me. As for A.D., I’m less certain, but I’m willing to commit to the theory that Spencer has a twin who is A.D. and Wren is her ally. I’m still somewhat hesitant to be completely gung-ho about this theory, as there are multiple notes I will make that show the theory is shaky, but there is still a significant amount of evidence that points me to that conclusion anyway, whereas no other theory I’ve considered has evidence quite as convincing.
Most of everything here is not all too original (most of my own thinking is really just in the ‘Melissa is Charlotte’s killer’ section) but I hope my straight-to-the-point bulleting format will be useful to see the best evidence for these theories laid out in one place. Even if no one reads this, I wanted a record to show that this was my theory in case I turn out to be correct.
To start off, I believe this to be absolutely true:
Charlotte was in the bell tower the night of her death to marry the love of her life, Archer Dunhill. She was holding the flowers that she took from Alison’s house because they were acting as her wedding bouquet.
Evidence for this: Charlotte’s death was eerily similar to Spencer’s college paper she wrote for her criminology class, as revealed in 6x12. And in the murder that Spencer’s essay was about, the victim was specifically killed on her wedding night. The only explanation for PLL’s random inclusion of this detail (seriously, there was no good reason for it unless it’s this) is that it was hinting that Charlotte was getting married that night.
Evidence for Melissa being Charlotte’s killer:
As we learned in 6x17, Charlotte had called Wren and told him about Melissa’s involvement in Bethany’s death, which caused Wren to end their engagement. Melissa was furious with Charlotte for doing this. Therefore, to get her revenge, Melissa killed Charlotte on her wedding night out of spite for Charlotte ruining Melissa’s relationship and chance at marriage.
^ One more point about that. This makes sense because it is basically the ultimate culmination of Melissa’s character. She has been defined throughout the entire series by her anger with Spencer for stealing or messing around with both Ian and Wren. Melissa is basically cursed with having her relationships ruined by female family members (Charlotte being her cousin). Charlotte ruining Melissa’s engagement to Wren finally caused Melissa to snap and take physical revenge - the final explosion after 5.5 seasons of being wronged.
In 6x16-17, we learn that Charlotte’s murder weapon was a hollow rod with a rectangular opening on the end, which perfectly describes Melissa’s broken luggage handle. A.D. gets their hands on it in 6x17 and that’s the last we heard of it. Also, Melissa lied about her arrival to Rosewood (she was actually in Rosewood secretly at the time Charlotte was killed). It hasn’t been explained why she lied.
Seasons ago, there was a flashback of Melissa and CeCe seemingly fighting the night that Alison was buried and Bethany was killed. This flashback has never been adequately explained. There was a brief suggestion that the flashback is unreliable because it was Jason’s memory and he was high that night, and Charlotte said in 6x10 that it couldn’t have been her with Melissa, so Jason simply must have seen Bethany with her instead. I just don’t believe either of these cheap cop-outs; the latter doesn’t even make sense as Melissa definitely did not talk to Bethany that night. Which means it was surely CeCe and Melissa fighting. We have no idea why (could the N.A.T. Club explain it?) but clearly Melissa and Charlotte have had a history of conflict that is STILL shrouded in mystery (and ready to be explained in the series finale!)
Melissa and CeCe were also on that boat together in Cape May, if CeCe is to be believed that Melissa took the photo. The fact that the show still hasn’t delved into these two characters’ connection makes me believe it will be a topic of the series finale, which means Melissa has to have SOME role in relation to Charlotte, and being her killer would certainly be a big payoff to that.
It’s been proven time and time again that Melissa has always tried her best to protect Spencer (such as burying Bethany because she thought it was Alison whom Spencer had killed). With Spencer’s former tormenter released from Welby, killing Charlotte could have been one more effort of Melissa’s to protect Spencer from being tortured again.
*NOTE: I realize that this may seem a little TOO obvious, what with Melissa actually being an in-show suspect of being the killer. When the Liars suspect someone out loud, that usually means the suspect is not the culprit. But these circumstances are different. Usually, the suspect is ruled out within a few episodes so the Liars can move on to a new one. The Melissa suspicion was expressed but then dropped from the show with no resolution, and it was long enough before the series finale to not be the freshest thing on general fans’ minds. Its resolution will come in the finale when Melissa is finally back and revealed as Charlotte’s killer.
Also: Remember when Marlene literally showed CeCe in a black hoodie in 4x11 spying on Ezria and then never elaborated on that until she was revealed to be ‘A’? She gave us the answer far before the reveal and never brought it up again so fans wouldn’t think about it much. Same thing Marlene is doing here again with Melissa.
Now for A.D. theories. Even though I think Wren is only an ally to A.D., I’m going to lay out evidence as if he actually IS A.D.
Evidence for Wren being A.D.:
A.D.’s main goal seems to be to expose whoever killed Charlotte. This means, logically, that A.D. cared for Charlotte and was possibly close with her. As far back as Season 3, we learned that Wren was helping CeCe get into Radley by faking her identification badges (which PLL conveniently reminded us of during the Spencer-Ezra-Wren scene in 7x15). Sounds like something a friend would do for another friend. Charlotte also called Wren over the 5-year time jump to tell him about Melissa’s involvement in Bethany’s death. Why would she call him and try to help him by enlightening him to his fiancée’s secret, unless Charlotte and Wren were friends? They clearly have a (platonic) relationship that has not been explained whatsoever on this show. Not much time left to explain it except for in the series finale when it’s revealed that Wren and Charlotte were super close and he’s avenging her death!
How many times has Executive Producer Joseph Dougherty told us “all roads lead to Radley”? Wren literally worked there, giving him access to any files and information he needed to become as knowledgeable about Spencer’s origin with Mary Drake as A.D. is. How did A.D. get their hands on Mary’s letter to Spencer (as seen in 7x11)? Wren could’ve gotten it when working in Radley. Also, there was that whole deal with Radley’s basement in 6B. In 6x20, we learned that the Records Room in the basement was turned into a secret room and all the records were taken except for one file of Mary’s. 6x16 ended with A.D. messing with electrical switches down there, so A.D. clearly knew about the room and probably took the files. The show tried to distract us with Sara Harvey seemingly being the only one who knew about the basement, but Sara’s dead, and Wren would know about it too since he worked there.
A.D. has consistently been associated with a doctor aesthetic. Rubber blue gloves have been a staple feature of A.D.’s outfits since early 6B and A.D. seemed to be in full doctor garb at the end of 6x11 in their scene with Jenna. Hanna was also forced to perform surgery on the life-sized doll of herself in 7x13. Archer is dead, so that leaves Wren as the last suspicious doctor character.
Wren’s last pre-S7 appearances had him looking extremely suspicious in 4x10. Drawing what seemed to be Red Coat. Eyeing Hanna and Caleb angrily from his car. Calling someone and saying “We have a problem. I’ll take care of my end, you take care of yours.” (It would make sense if it was Charlotte on the other end of that phone call). Eddie Lamb didn’t trust him and then vanished forever. Mona didn’t trust him, and when has Mona ever been wrong? There’s only one last chance to explain this never-resolved character development - with an A.D. reveal in the series finale.
Also in 4x10, Wren was trying really hard to stop Eddie Lamb from bringing a book to Spencer’s Radley room, at the same time that Spencer was doing her ‘A’ duty of kidnapping Malcolm. How could Wren have known that Spencer wasn’t in her room unless he knew she was working for ‘A’ (Charlotte at the time) and wanted to stop Eddie from messing that up?
On at least two occasions (as recently as 7x15), Wren has enjoyed the same drink that ‘A’ has been shown to enjoy. A clue for the observant fans. http://morethantheseashes.tumblr.com/post/161412457232/stalkyou4ever-damn-it
At this point, I feel like the show has had too many random connections to London/the UK for it to not have some significance. Archer being secretly British and a (fake) doctor could really be foreshadowing for a connection to Wren. They could be brothers or friends. Maybe Archer learned how to fake being a doctor from Wren. Maybe Charlotte and Archer met through their mutual relationships with Wren. I’m actually not the biggest fan of this theory that Archer and Wren are connected because I don’t think Archer was really working for A.D., but I have to throw it out there. It’s possible that he was, and it would be a logical reveal for Wren to then be A.D.
There’ve been a million bird references on this show. They’re everywhere. You can look up the posts and theories on that yourself. A wren is a type of bird, so there’s that. Maybe subtle hinting by the writers, maybe not.
If Melissa is Charlotte’s killer, as I really believe her to be, there’d be some poetry to Wren, Melissa’s ex-love interest, being A.D. against her.
This is obviously arguable, but I feel like Spencer and Hanna have gotten the brunt of A.D.’s actions (besides the horrible assault situation with Emison). Wren has the closest connections to Spencer and Hanna, having kissed both of them and ultimately being rejected by both.
* One problem I have is that Wren still doesn’t seem to have that great of a motivation for hating the Liars so much, other than believing them to be a part of Charlotte’s murder. Still not strong enough to warrant all THIS imo. But perhaps more will be revealed in the finale about his motivation that I can’t foresee.
** The truth of the matter is: Wren WILL be revealed as an antagonist of some sort in the series finale. I hope we can all agree on that much. Even if he’s not A.D., I guarantee with certainty that he is involved in the antagonist side of this mystery somehow. Most of the evidence I just listed above could apply just as well to him being A.D.’s right-hand man, which is more what I’m leaning toward. The only thing that still confounds me at that point is A.D.’s doctor theme. Why on earth would anyone else be wearing doctor’s clothes all the time?
Evidence for Spencer’s Twin being A.D.:
Obviously, the dream/hallucination scene in 7x01 that Hanna has of Spencer seemed off when it first aired and people have ran with it as evidence of Spencer having a twin. There’s the fact that the Spencer in the scene was not rocking the post-time jump bangs that Spencer has, but I’m less interested in that and more concerned about the fact that the dream-Spencer mentions A.D. to Hanna. Uber ‘A’ did not start using the name A.D. until Hanna was kidnapped, meaning, realistically, Hanna could not have dreamed Spencer saying “A.D.” because she hadn’t been exposed to that moniker yet. It could only really be explained if it wasn’t a dream at all, but Spencer’s twin (A.D.) talking to Hanna IRL. “Spencer” also asks Hanna who killed Charlotte in that scene. That’s exactly the information A.D. wanted and kidnapped Hanna for. 3 things in this one scene that hint at a twin.
In Spencer’s 7x13 ping-pong match with Marco, she switches to her left hand to make her winning shot. But we know Spencer is right-handed. A clue that Spencer’s twin is left-handed?
In 7x08, the ex-Radley doctor Dr. Cochran told Sparia that he delivered “two of [Mary’s] babies.” That specific wording suggests that Spencer and Charlotte were just two of some unknown greater number of babies that Mary Drake had. He also mentions that the baby he delivered years after Charlotte went into the care of protective services. We know Spencer went immediately into Veronica’s hands so that baby couldn’t have been Spencer….
In 7x15, we all felt something was off about Spencer’s scene with Wren and Ezra. She seemed slightly jumpy and nervous about being caught with Wren, asking Ezra not to tell anyone she was with Wren, not even her friends. The scene also felt weird because it took place immediately after a scene in which Spencer was elsewhere looking to meet up with Mary Drake, but was caught by Marco. There may have been a small time jump for her to get to the airport, but it sure didn’t feel like it. AND she wasn’t wearing the same clothes she had just been wearing in the previous scene (her trench coat was nowhere to be found). Combine all this with the theory I just went through of Wren maybe being A.D. or a helper, and that scene could have just been two A.D. partners-in-crime meeting up to talk shop.
When asked if we’ve met A.D., Tyler Blackburn said “You kind of have.” This quote haunts me. He wouldn’t have said this if A.D. is just a regular character we know. A.D. has to be some sort of twin, or secret family member, or SOMETHING. This also makes me doubt that Wren is REALLY A.D. - he may just be a subservient partner to A.D.
MY PROBLEMS WITH THIS THEORY:
As much as I love the idea of Spencer having a twin who’s A.D., I also recognize its faults.
The things pointed out about Hanna’s 7x01 dream scene could be explained by simple pragmatic reasoning. The lack of bangs could just be Marlene’s choice of having Hanna dream of Spencer how she used to look in high school, since most of Hanna’s memories of Spencer would have her looking like that. The mention of A.D. could really just be a mistake on the writers’ part. They probably really wanted to be consistent with using A.D. since it was new and they were writing 7x01 fresh off a hiatus where they could have forgotten that detail. Spencer asking Hanna who killed Charlotte could just be Hanna’s manifestation of wanting to know that answer herself since it got her kidnapped.
Same thing with the ping-pong match. Her switching hands could be completely arbitrary. It really runs the risk of just being fans’ wishful thinking reading into that.
When Dr. Cochran mentions “two of her babies,” he says it in a way that sounds like he really didn’t know much about Mary’s birthing history besides the two he delivered. It was flippant in a way that made it sound like he wasn’t actively suggesting she had more than two babies; he just said “two of” in case she had more than two, but he didn’t actually know either way.
Also, and this is a kicker in my opinion, if Mary had twins for her second birth, wouldn’t Cochran have delivered BOTH twin babies? He would have said he delivered 3 of Mary’s babies then. (We KNOW Charlotte was one of the babies he delivered). It doesn’t make sense that he’d deliver Spencer’s twin but not Spencer herself at the same time. They wouldn’t switch doctors like that. This is the biggest flaw in the theory for me.
But, despite these flaws, there sure is reason to believe that Spencer’s twin is A.D. and Wren is her right-hand-man. At this point, I’m not willing to say that the twin is also Bethany Young, as one popular theory suggests. There seems to be a lot of pure speculation and wishful thinking that went into that specific theory. I’m not saying it’s definitely false, but I’d need at least one clue that’s more solid to make me really believe that.
As for motivation, I don’t care to theorize on that much. Theories usually lose me when they get into motivation because they’re almost always based on pure speculation and very little evidence. The simple answer is that Charlotte and Spencer’s twin were siblings and Twincer cared a lot about Charlotte and wants to avenge her death. This is good enough for me for now. (I expect more in the finale though). This would probably mean Charlotte had a relationship with Twincer in order to build this bond, as the twin clearly does not feel much of a bond with Spencer.
Thank you for reading! Feel free to discuss with me! I’d love to before the show ends.
Thank you to the amazing Pretty Little Liars fandom, whom I’ve been a part of for over 5 years now. Can’t believe my last theory ever has been posted! I sincerely hope everyone enjoys the series finale to the fullest extent. Enjoy the gAme!

Questions I need answered in the finale
How was Sara Harvey ever relevant
Why did Noel kill her (I think it was Noel?)
Where does Jenna fit in the whole A.D equation?
What really happened between Charlotte, Bethany, and Mrs Cavanaugh, because that timeline really doesn’t add up
What did that picture on the puzzle mean (black widow?)
Who is A.D (obvs)
Why is A.D doing this to the girls? What did they do to deserve this?
Are the girls the only ones A.D is playing with? Who else is/has been a target of the Game? Jenna? Mona? The boyfriends?
Where does Melissa fit in all this (I mean I know she is pretty high on the A.D suspect list, but in case she isn’t, then what tf is her deal)
Why was Wren drawing a red coat in Radley? Like, that was odd af bc 1. way to get caught wtf, and 2. that’s not a sane person’s behavior
Why did Mrs D. have a picture of Ali in the red coat?
Was Archer Dunhill connected to A.D?
Is Mary really a good person?
What does she know about the whole A.D thing?
We need some clarification on the whole Dilaurentis/Hastings/Drake family tree because??? Is Charlotte really Charles? Is she really Mary’s daughter? Why did she lie and say she was Kenneth and Jessica’s daughter? How much does Melissa know? Twincer?
Did Alison know that she and Spencer were related when she became friends with her in high school, or did she just know her because they were neighbors?
I hope that Peter Hastings goes to jail and that Veronica Hastings gets her job back and also a Nobel Peace Prize
Where are Pam and the Montgomerys?
Why are Ezra and Caleb so shady? Is it just because they live in a shady world? Or is there more to it?
Why was Caleb in Madrid with Spencer? Was that just a really odd coincidence?
We never saw Mona actually push Charlotte off the bell tower. Why was her death exactly like the paper Spencer wrote for her criminology class?
Where is Jason?
How does the N.A.T club fit into all this?
Why were the other members of the club killed?
What really happened with Ian? (Maybe this was already explained? Honestly I can’t remember)
How did Cece, Wilden and Melissa know each other? What’s the story there?
What really happened between Ali and Cyrus Petrillo?
Why was Ali smiling when Mona fake died? Was she happy Mona was dead? Did she know it wasn’t true? Was she working with Cece? Ali has always been shady af but particularly in season 5, and I’m still not convinced she didn’t know about Charlotte.
What did Maya know that she wanted to tell Emily right before she died?
Eddie Lamb? Why did he hate Wren? How did he know Aria?
Where is Holden, what happened there?
Is Nicole okay seriously wtf like she was held hostage in Columbia for? years? And then she comes back and her boyfriend, who she travelled to Columbia with in the first place, isn’t allowed to see her because his new fiancée is jealous? What?
What is up with Lucas seriously
Where did my baby Marco go I want him back
Who is Bethany Young and why have we never seen her face?
Man that is a long list, and I’ll probably come up with more plot holes later.
In conclusion, I would like to say that if anything happens to Mona in the finale I WILL SCREAM. Thank you for your time, and feel free to add to the list.

PLL is back tonight!!!
Yay! In celebration I re-watched the last 3 eps of 7a to refresh my memory.
Keep in mind I stopped following writers and cast on social media before season 7 aired. And have for the most part avoided spoilers so that I could look at the show for “just the show” during it’s last season in hopes of getting to a point where I could enjoy it again. Short of reading theories on tumblr, I’ve actually avoided PLL since the break between 7a & 7b.
Things I had actually forgotten:
-Jenna asks A.D. if they shot Spencer
-Aria & Ezra haven’t discussed “Nicole” now that we know she’s alive.
-Paige was stalking Sabrina
-The doctor says he delivered 2 of Mary’s babies implying there are more
So My thoughts/theories/hopes/things to remember for 7b
-I kind of want Aria to be done with Ezra.
-I do NOT trust Paige. And I think she’s only applied at the school as means to get closer to Ali. When she and Em are at the school she says “ I kind of want to go back “ (to high school) - weird - And outside of Spencer’s she told the cop she needed to see her GIRLFRIEND despite her and Em not actually getting back together.
-Jenna says she didn’t shoot Spencer, Mary didn’t shoot Spencer, Obv, Noel, Hanna, Aria, Em, & Ali didn’t shoot Spencer.
-Jenna doesn’t know A.D. I think Noel was the “middle man” between A.D. & Jenna. Now that Noel is out of the picture, A.D. has kidnapped? Jenna.
Mary + (assumed Peter) = Spencer ---My guess is Peter is her dad
Mary + (unknown father) = Charlotte/Charles --- My guess is that her father is neither Ken nor Peter but another character that she’s been connected to. (See below for theory)
Jessica + Peter = Jason
Jessica + Ken= Ali
-We don’t know if Mary or Jessica have more kids floating around out there but we have yet to have definitive answers regarding the fathers of Mary’s kid.
-Ali is pregnant by Archer/Elliot we do not know if it has anything to do with Em’s harvested/stolen eggs or not... I don’t think they are Em’s eggs.
-Toby & Yvonne had a car accident -- I think Toby makes it, Yvonne won’t.
-Just because the person died, doesn’t mean they are dead.
I have 3 major A.D. suspects. All who have had several clues against them throughout the series. All who have been suspected by the liars at one point or another.
1. Melissa.
-She’s connected to the liars, Ali, & Charlotte.
-She’s been involved or mentioned in some of the most important events (that night, Noel’s Halloween Party, Halloween train, the lodge fire, Cape May, etc)
-She is the only other person besides Ali & the Liars that we know visited Hector, no coincidence that A.D. has been using masks lately.
-Melissa is old enough that she would remember Spencer’s birth, So if Mary is really Spencer’s mother Melissa would know about this. “I’ve been protecting you since before it started”
-She’s had her fair share of shady companions, Ian, Garett, CeCe, Wilden, Jenna & Shana, Mona (Mona’s “army”) & Wren (I also think she was connected more to Noel Kahn. I believe he’s the man in the hat that Spencer see’s Melissa talking to on the surveillance cameras.. Noel likes to play sides, Charlotte/Alison... Why not play sides against Charlotte & Melissa. Noel was heavily connected to Jenna who was connected to Shana who both did things for Melissa (Shana even helped with some things at Wren’s apartment)
-Melissa is the most suspicious person to have killed Charlotte. She literally had the murder weapon
2. Lucas
-He’s been a bit shady with all his cameras and “smart” house that just seems to keep landing our liars in trouble.
-He was caught visiting at Radley and he was not visiting Mona
-He was always in to taking pictures, something we never seen Charlotte do despite her and Mona having access to all the photo’s Lucas has taken.
-He’s always had it out for Ali, and subsequently the girls for allowing her to be an ass. He only ever connected with Hanna.
-He went to prom with shady ass Jenna
-He could have easily killed Charlotte and planned to let one or all of the liars take the fall
3. *Wild Card* Wilden
-I’ve learned that not everyone who dies in this show are actually dead. And Wildens death was probably the one that shook me the most with this show as he had soooo many answers.
-Wilden could be Mary’s 3rd child, It’s never been confirmed that he had an actual relationship with Charlotte (not that it matters cough JASON cough) I mentioned YEARS ago that Wilden and CeCe looked like they could be related.
-Wilden being Mary’s child could answer so many “why’s” like
--- Why did Jessica call Wilden to cover up the Marion thing and why did he agree? Why did Jessica call him again when Ali was hit? Maybe because Wilden would do anything to protect his aunt and sister.
---Why did Mary and Archer use a Wilden mask to haunt Ali? Because they believed Ali could have killed Charlotte and they wanted to freak Ali out, but as far as we know other than CeCe claiming Ali liked Wilden, we’ve never seen Ali & Wilden have a bad interaction, she had no reason to be scared of him. In fact Wilden was an ass to everyone in hopes to “solve” Ali’s case despite having inside knowledge.
---Wilden has never been a fan of Spencer and if he’s the 3rd child this would explain why. He and Charlotte never got to live with their actual parents. While Spencer got super parents Veronica and Peter. He easily could have shot her and dragged Jenna out leaving everyone to believe Jenna shot Spencer, but A.D. dragging Jenna away gave me flashbacks to Jenna and Shana helping a wounded Wilden after Ashley hit him with her car.
-Alison easily faked her death with the help of Mona & Charlotte, Maybe Wilden did the same. Charlotte was accused of killing Wilden because he was seen with a blonde, Maybe she was helping fake the death, not actually killing him. If Wilden and Charlotte could falsify reports to convince the world that Bethany was Alison is it so far fetched that Charlotte with the help of Holbrook faked reports for Wilden. (We know Charlotte and Holbrook were helping each other, as he let her escape custody, we also know Rosewood doesn’t have the best police)
-Wilden has always kind of just been around, much like Charlotte. We don’t know much about Wilden’s past either (touch on that later) There was def a person (taller than Spencer) in that doll house, and neither Charlotte or Sara are that tall, Leaving it to be Noel (who also isn’t much taller than Spencer) Archer, or my guess of Wilden. Spencer says the person felt familiar that would not have been the case with either Archer nor Sara. But Wilden is someone that would be VERY familiar to Spencer as he’s literally been watching her since the beginning of the show.
-Wilden’s unreliable past.Other than a flashback that showed Wilden was a rookie cop at the time of Noel’s Halloween party we really don’t know too much of his back story, but one thing has always stood out. Hanna asks Wilden if he’s still the party boy he was in the class of 96, Wilden says wow looks like somebodies been doing their own homework. Yet later in the show it’s said on more than one occasion that Wilden went to school at the same time as Melissa and Jason (meaning he wouldn’t have gradated for several more years) So we have a big inconsistency with his age.
-Lastly I will remind everyone of the fact that there was a man at Wilden’s funeral who looked JUST like Wilden...
(I know the Wilden theory is a long shot but with this show anything could happen)

Crazy PLL Theory
My PLL theory is long and crazy; hear me out. Season 3 is the most important season because that’s where all the clues are. Later I’ll write a theory on all the clues in season 3. I think that Jessica D., Mr. Hastings, that Dr. on season 7 who attended Mary’s delivery, and Mr. Khan were involved in illegal adoptions at Radley. Jessica arranged the adoptions, Peter filled out the legal paperwork, the dr. attended the patients, and Noel’s dad signed the adoptions. They used different Radley patients as surrogates or impregnated them, took their babies, and sold the babies. They kept their female patients doped up or used electric shock therapy so their records showed they were crazy and no one would believe their story. Characters who were adopted were: Spencer, Hanna, Lucas, Andrew, Maya, Wren, Bethany, Sara Harvey, Meredith, Paige, Holden, and possibly Jenna. They sold the babies to people in Rosewood and in neighboring towns. Some of these characters have come back to Rosewood to find out the truth about their births (Wren, Maya, Meredith). I think Pastor Ted is Scott Montgomery and possibly Wren’s dad. He has come to Rosewood to find his kid(s). Eddie Lamb is Maya’s dad (Mona says in code: I missed my dolls. This could mean I met Mary Drake or I met Maya’s dad).
Charlotte discovered the illegal adoptions and told Alison. They both devised a plan to blackmail Jessica, Peter, and Noel’s dad. This would explain how Charlotte had so much money and the stashes of money that Alison had in the house. Alison has a twin sister. This would explain the 2 yellow dresses. Ken thinks the twin is dead, he doesn’t know that she survived and that Jessica gave her away. The twin would stand in for Alison every now and then and this explains Ali’s mood swings and her sudden personality change in season 5 and 6.
In season 3 episode 3, Mona tells Hanna, “you can’t trust anybody, not even family.” This was a clue. She wanted Hanna to know that the people who are harassing them are family members. Lucas is acting crazy because that’s when he discovers that he is adopted and he is a triplet. Mary Drake’s triplets: Lucas, Spencer, and another girl. He wants to tell Spencer, but that would mess up Charlotte and Ali’s plan to continue blackmailing the parents. I keep thinking of how Ali called him a hermaphrodite. Maybe he really was, and she knew this because Charlotte told her. And that’s why Peter didn’t adopt him, perhaps the Hastings had taken both girls, but the other sister hurt Spencer and they put her in Radley. Spencer doesn’t remember her clearly; in her mind she sees her as Melissa just like Jason was told Charlie was an imaginary friend. I saw a picture on twitter of Emma Dumont a new cast member to PLL in a wheelchair who also looks a lot like Spencer. Perhaps she is the fragile patient who was accused of pushing Marion Cavanaugh. Peter knows this and so he convinces Toby to settle with Radley over his mother’s death. What Peter doesn’t know is that the fragile patient didn’t push Marion, it was Jessica. Perhaps Marion discovered what was going on in Radley and threatened to blow the whistle, so Jessica killed her and blamed Bethany.
I think that Spencer did hit Ali’s twin with the shovel and just doesn’t remember because of the drugs she was on, speed and sleeping pills that Ali put in her drink. Melissa buried her and Wren gets her out. Mona and or Charlotte tell Toby about Spencer, so Toby joins the A team; he does this to protect Spencer. He tries to run over Lucas to scare him into keeping quiet because he knows this would mess Spencer up and then the truth about what she did would come out. Garret alludes to Spencer about medical records because he knows that Spencer is not Veronica’s daughter. Ali is also alive; I think that Charlotte hit her intentionally. Maybe she had a deal with Jessica because she knew about the illegal adoptions and so even though Charlotte hit Ali, Jessica protected her to keep Charlotte quiet about the adoptions. Charlotte has been lying since the beginning to save herself, when she realizes that Ali is alive, she joins forces with her to continue pretending that she is her ally. Maya is also alive. Her death was just like Ali’s. Same song and everything. Plus, in episode 5 of season 3 (A) is seen going through Maya’s bag. In her bag is a prescription for pills that was filled months after they found Maya’s body. Maya fakes her death to continue investigating. Since Jessica buries her own child, Ali and Charlotte blackmail her. She pays Wilden to fix it. Wilden being a cop gets a body from the morgue and buries it in place of Alison. Jessica begins to stalk the girls on her own to try and find Ali before they do. Again in season 3, Bart one of the witnesses against Garrett says he saw Maya get into a police car. Everyone assumes they’re talking about Garrett’s police car, but I think they’re talking about Wilden’s. He helps Maya fake her death and provides a corpse in her place. So in season 3 when Ali’s body goes missing, it’s an elaborate plan to avoid the autopsy. Wilden knows that if they do an autopsy on Ali’s remains they will discover that it’s not Ali’s body. Wilden may be Charles and Charlotte might actually be Bethany, Wren’s sister. I think that Wilden is still alive, but that’s another theory.
Ezra is writing a true crime book at least that’s what he originally wanted to do, but then he discovers this adoption scandal at Radley and begins investigating, that’s why Marlene said all the answers are in 3B (his apartment and in also in the 3B part of the season). He helps Charlotte because she promises to give him the evidence about Radley. Meanwhile Wren also helps Charlotte because he wants to know who his real parents are. She tells him she is his sister. He doesn’t want to hurt the girls, but he has to pretend to be on Charlotte’s side. He seems like a very lonely character. He wants so much to be loved. Season 3 clearly shows this. Some people think he’s creepy. I just think he really wants to be a part of something; first with Spencer in season 2 where he asks her if she wants them to pretend that nothing ever happened between them, and then in season 3 with Hanna. When he is coloring the picture of the family, I think it’s because he initially thinks that Mary might be his mom because Charlotte lied to him. Perhaps Andrew is his other brother. In the doll house we see a family, a blonde girl, a brunette boy, and the mom is touching her stomach. A lot of the things in the doll house resemble the stuff in Wren’s apartment. I really hope he isn’t Charles, because he made out with his own sister, Spencer. That’s just gross.
Meredith is crazy, and in season 3, she is working with Mona. Mona calls her to tell her that Byron has left for his conference, so she can continue drugging Aria. I think either she was adopted as well or she was just another patient at Radlley. Aria has a mental disorder that is crystal clear. Her brother Mike acts all weird, maybe he’s the one who is adopted in that family that would explain his erratic behavior.
Paige leaves to California and I think it’s because her family is being blackmailed about her adoption. We discover later that Andrew was also adopted. I think Hanna might be adopted because A always messes the most with Hanna. In short, I think that the people who are helping Charlotte and Ali are all being blackmailed into helping her. Noel helps her because they told him about his dad’s involvement in the illegal adoptions and he suddenly thinks he might be adopted too. There are so many clues in season 3. In episode 6 Jason is talking to Spencer and Peter is spying on them. He says two things that really caught my attention. The first is that he felt that Ian was recording for someone else. Later when Peter talks to Jason about leaving Spencer alone, he tells Jason that Spencer is dealing with the trial, and her sister. Jason interrupts and says, “which sister exactly are you talking about? Because as it turns out, I have more than one.” This makes me think he knows about Spencer having more than one sister.
