I still think about “Another Word for Righteousness” by boo_cool_robot btw. Like its just up there. The Divine Scrupulosity is making me sooooooo. Like what do you meannnn thats MY brand of mental illness in the form of a divine software program that lives in a man’s brain/the suitcase he carries around. Good lird
It’s so sick that theyre listed as synonyms truly but like I get it. I got there. It’s incredible really.
righteous (adjective) 1: acting in accord with divine or moral law : free from guilt or sin 2: a: morally right or justifiable     b: arising from an outraged sense of justice or morality
(+ from the fatt. wiki article for Rightenousness: “[...] a deep commitment to others in the broad sense, but in the narrow sense is willing to do whatever it takes for that commitment, [...]”)
scrupulous (adjective) 1: having moral integrity: acting in strict regard for what is considered right or proper
And like. The way that scrupulosity too makes you intensively care about others and to do right by them but in a way that puts yourself down while holding yourself to this high standard that righteousness just brings from itself...
It’s Ibex and Righteousness putting themselves Above... They know what’s best. What has to be done. And then Orth and Scrupulosity
But then again, Scrupulosity never likes its Candidates to be too comfortable.
-
Orth closes his eyes. “The first thing in any situation that Scrupulosity finds the flaws in is me. I don’t think meanness can scare me anymore.”
And how this makes Orth easier to manipulate like I’m going to screammmm. The way he numbs to it it is internalized and also what’s so so good here is that it is really truly exhausting to feel like this. And Orth is Oh so miserable and susceptible to someone complimenting him or trusting him even if he KNOWS it can’t be true.
“Meaning no offense to you of course. Dogs are wonderful. People trust dogs.”
“None taken,” Orth assures him. It would be nice to be trusted.
^ So good to meeeee because when you constantly have to be on guard that extends to yourself too and how you think other people perceive of you. Orth mentioning multiple times he Expects people to be put off or not trust him. Augh !
ALSO Orth making a point to separate himself from Scrupulosity (specifally to put himself down too. “Not my specialty. Scrupulosity’s.“). BUT at the end when
Scrupulosity says, You can’t trust him.
Scrupulosity says, You can’t trust yourself.
“I know,”Orth says aloud. He’s always known that.
Attar Rose looks down at him and smiles.
sorry i lost it for a moment. Because it Is a part of him it’s in thereeee. Maybe it’s always been.
anyways. good fic good fic

- ̗̀ CHARACTER STUDY
whats up gamers my name is cy and im here to tell you about something i think a lot about involving my son that i, quite frankly, am TIRED of!!
just a warning, this’ll be kinda long! ii put it under a read more but god please read this if you want because i am passionate
so, to start off, i’d like to say that there’s a thing i see in the fandom a lot, and it si that everyone seems to see steven as this “precious uwu would never hurt anyone or anything cinnamon roll!!!!” and honestly i feel like that’s kind of insulting to his character!! so allow me to go on an analysis rant or something
we all know that, in general, steven has proven time and time again to be quite pacifistic. if it’s possible in any way, he likes to avoid violence, confrontation, and/or verbal disagreement. this is all true! however, i think the fandom may overexaggerate this. while he is pacifistic in nature, he is not such a pushover that he will resort to peace under EVERY circumstance. (my boy is smart enough to know that not everything can be solved passively -- that’s not the way the world works!)
“now cy, when has steven ever physically harmed someone in the show? when???” let me tell you!!! have you ever seen the very first episode of steven universe (not counting the pilot)? it’s a relatively innocent episode, with a rap about ice cream and our main boy, steven, trying to summon his weapon because he wants to fit in with his family. in this episode, steven is portrayed as very childlike in personality, from the way he talks to the way he goes about doing things. he’s not exactly the kind of kid to want to hurt anyone... but listen. later on in the episode, the ep’s main antagonist (the mother centipeedle) comes to pick a fight with the gems. soon after, steven follows them into a small battle with the monster (albeit against their wishes) and when they’re in trouble, you know what he does? he tries to summon his weapon in order to save them. and when that doesnt work, the mother ends up messing up steven’s ice cream freezer, and that ends up upsetting him even more. and you know what he does? he full-on attacks the centipeedle. and you might be saying “but cy!! he was younger then, and this was back at the beginning of the series when he was barely developed as a character!!! he’s learned that violence is never an option!!!” and to that i say: dont come at me with that bullshit
you want an example of a recent time in which steven has done things not-so-pacifistically? alright! how about in back to the moon when steven opened the door on the moon base, allowing sardonyx to send the rubies into space? in that episode, steven could have just as easily just gotten the others to help him take the ship and leave (and while that wouldnt be exactly the most moral of decisions, it’s still more merciful then sending the rubies into space)
furthermore, after the events of back to the moon, steven ends up being pulled into space along with the rubies. then, in bubbled (the following episode), steven throws eyeball out of his bubble. relatively, this is very pacifistic of him to do, seeing as how he probably could have taken her physical form, but i think it stil counts.
here are a few last points i wanna make:
if steven wasn’t willing to fight under any circumstances, then why would he be doing all this training with connie and the gems in the first place?
here’s a clip of stevonnie fighting jasper
here’s a clip of smokey quartz fighting jasper
and even if stevonnie and smokey arent fully steven, i’d say they still count, seeing as how if steven didnt want to fight while he was fused, the fusion wouldnt work in the first place.
also, steven fights a LOT of gem monsters. he always has the option to stay behind and not do it, but he still does
in summary, steven IS a very pacifistic person and a very pacifistic gem. but while mercy is always his first choice, he WILL fight if he, his friends, his family, or his planet are under enough threat. he’s not this “allmighty pacifist who wouldn’t lay a hand on anyone.” safety and peace are his first priorities. put him under enough pressure, though, and like carbon his demeanor will toughen. he’s not afraid to fight for those he loves.
thanks for coming to my ted talk
