reminder that the only reason the "ADHD is actually demigod BATTLE STRATEGIES" and "dyslexia is DEMIGOD BRAINS HARDWIRED FOR ANCIENT GREEK" things exist in the PJO universe is because it's a very direct reference to early 2000s teaching/parenting techniques for neurodiverse and disabled children, which aimed to frame childrens' disabilities and hardships as a "superpower" or strength so that the children would feel more positively about their disabilities or situations. This technique has fallen out of favor since then for the most part since more often than not it just results in kids feeling as though their struggles are not being seen or taken seriously.

Yes, demigods are adhd/dyslexic (and sometimes autistic-coded) in the series. This is extremely important and trying to remove it or not acknowledge it makes the entire series fall apart because it is such a core concept. Yes, canon claims that their adhd/dyslexia is tied to some innate abilities, which is based on an outdated methodology. It's important to acknowledge that and understand where it comes from! But please stop trying to apply it to other pantheons in the series like "oh, the romans have dyscalculia because of roman numerals!" or "the norse demigods have dysgraphia for reasons!" - it's distasteful at best.

A better option is to acknowledge the meta inspiration for why that exists in the series, such as explaining potentially that Chiron was utilizing that same teaching methodology to try and help demigods feel more comfortable with their disabilities and they aren't literal powers. In fact, especially given Frank, there's implication that being adhd/dyslexic isn't a guaranteed demigod trait, which means it's more likely to be normally inherited from their godly parent/divine ancestor as a general trait, not a power, and further supports the whole "ADHD is battle strategy" thing being non-literal. It also implies the entire greco-roman pantheon in their universe is canonically adhd/dyslexic - and that actually fits very well with the themes of the first series. The entire central conflict of the first series fits perfectly as an allegory about neurodiverse/disabled children and their relationships with their undiagnosed neurodiverse/disabled parents and trying to find solutions together with their shared disability/disabilities that the kid inherited instead of becoming distant from each other (and this makes claiming equivalent to getting a diagnosis which is a fascinating allegory! not to mention the symbolism of demigods inheriting legacies and legends and powers from their parents and everything that comes with that being equivalent to inheriting traits, neurodiversity, and disabilities from your parents).

anyways neurodiversity and disability and the contexts in which the series utilizes representation of those experiences particularly during the 2000s symbolically within the narrative is incredibly important to the first series and the understanding of what themes it means to represent. also if i see one more "the romans have dyscalculia instead of dyslexia" post in 2023 i'm gonna walk into the ocean.

Perhaps some V2 with it’s creators? It’s one of my fave things to ponder. Since it wasn’t a war machine, it needed to know how to interact with people. Wonder if they ever let it roam around while developing it. Perhaps they advertised it publically, maybe they’ve rented it out when they couldn’t sell the development of the V2 line.

I imagine with V2, that it had some sort of a positive relationship with its creators. They would most likely let it roam around to help it gain an understanding of human interaction as V2 was built with the purpose to make up the costs that were spent building V1, and to be a peace keeper. It would enjoy its time around humans, and even try and seek out others to interact with.

However this is Ultrakill, and I like to imagine when humanity started to disappear, and with blood becoming scarce, V2 would have to take drastic measures in order to survive, and I imagine the same for V1

thinking about the ship of theseus as a concept and how it applies to kdj. how much of yourself can you cut away before you cant be called the same person anymore. how many times can you kill yourself before there stops being enough of you to be killed. how much of yourself can you tear into pieces and throw away before the callousness with which you do it becomes a fixed apathy. how many repairs can be made to the ship of theseus before it stops being his.

honestly feel like it applies to yhk in general really well too. han sooyoung and her avatars in a literal sense since she is quite literally sectioning herself off into pieces whenever she uses the skill; yoo joonghyuk more metaphorically since we see in the 1863rd round whats basically like. the stripped to nothing recognizable ship now returned to theseus (kdj). but i feel like with kdj its just The Worst because we look at the scenarios themselves and like kdjs half performative half genuine flippant reveals of his deepest traumas and at his thinly veiled suicide attempts (sacrifices) are just. hello? i mean each one of those just guts him further and further and we see the literal actual fourth wall continue thickening to the point where (given we observe in kcoms pov) who is kim dokja? whats left after you peel back all the skins hes discarded? what makes the ship of theseus the ship of theseus?

and then you throw in the sucker punch of the 49/51 debacle and the question stops being like a vague overhanging vibe to the story and instead becomes the focal point of it: how much of a person can you strip away before they stop being the person you know? and i really truly think orv answers this. it answers it in the most beautiful way possible and the answer is that if theseus loves the ship. its his ship. the ship of theseus can be 1% original parts, it can be 49%, it can be 99%, it doesnt matter. the ship of theseus is theseus' ship because he loves it and as long as it continues to be loved it will continue to sail under his name.

and idk. i think about that a lot. people love you regardless of how much they know about you and thats the point. being known often precludes being loved but sometimes people know you because they love you. the ship of theseus is his because he loves it. yeah.

How do you handle being a part of the lgbtq community (unless I am a little dumb and any pronouns doesn't equate to that) during this time in christianity? I used to be a part of a denomination and am glad to see that some people were never forced out. I may no longer believe in the christian religion but I'm glad to see that some people who have been discriminated against can still hold their beliefs.

Hm how I go about it,, there's a sort of difference between spirituality and religion I guess? I dunno. I feel like my religious experience (or anyone else in general) is unique to themselves, and how they experience god (or lack thereof). Maybe worship is a smile, maybe worship is a birdsong. My spirituality is not affected by how other people experience my religion. Maybe god is the universe, maybe god is in the breeze and the grass, maybe god is you and me. I am made in his image and that means all of me. My relationship with religion is at a pretty weird place right now haha but maybe god is kindness, and the idea that everything will be alright

sanemi and genya with ptsd from their father

both of them being able to handle it mostly & it’s all fine, right? really, it’s hardly there—and most of it is because they’re so used to their father being so much bigger, much more intimidating, and both of them aren’t, well, children anymore. anyone taller tends to be nothing more than, maybe, a foot. hardly comparing to the gut-wrenching feeling of being as small as an ant under their father’s gaze. so it was fine. they were fine.

but—

it wasn’t like it was a secret that gyomei was possibly the tallest—largest—in maybe the whole corps. gyomei was actually pretty (emotionally) close to both shinazugawa’s, always very kind. he might even be one of the closest people to sanemi now. definitely for genya. but what’s also not a secret is that both shinazugawa’s are also… prone to starting arguments. mostly sanemi, of course. but genya has had his times, too.

thinking about sanemi and gyomei getting in a (verbal) fight over genya (with genya present). shinobu’s there, unable to step in because they’re both too loud and she could hardly detain them this far into the argument. gyomei sort of losing his cool—he’s aghast at sanemi’s treatment towards his brother and he’s just had a shitty day, he’s riled up and can’t bother taking a breather—so he raises his hands, mostly to show his frustration. he’s about to say something but—for some reason—it’s really quiet.

sanemi was probably ranting and shouting the whole time, gritting his teeth and acting like a petulant child—genya was not his responsibility and he had no reason to be nice to him!—but then gyomei’s hands fly up and, without meaning to, sanemi flinches. he doesn’t know why, but he stiffens, arms raising half way up, already stepping towards genya. instinctively feeling the need to protect. it takes him a moment to come to his senses—this is gyomei, for fuck’s sake. he wouldn’t do anything! yet sanemi’s already backed away. he tenses, more, somehow, and his eyes are wide as he realizes what he’s done.

gyomei seems confused, a bit worried. most likely sensing sanemi’s sudden panic. genya and shinobu are different stories—they saw and neither are strangers to impulsive reactions. genya had almost ducked behind sanemi, forgetting himself. his mind had decided right then to trigger the little button that said ‘hide’ and, looking at sanemi and his defensive posture, ‘safety.’ but his movement wasn’t as quick as his brother’s and he stops, able to come to terms with what had happened faster than sanemi. shinobu, on the other hand, was already putting two and two together. placing both the shinazugawa’s behaviors—their inefficient, somewhat physical ways of dealing with things… and now this.

shinobu was the one who stepped in, in the end. sighing, she begins to direct genya inside. sanemi’s posture is slumped, he’s curled into himself, almost ashamed. gyomei’s confusion has morphed to worry and he’s asking something, tentatively, but shinobu quiets him with the promise to explain. she ushers sanemi away gently, speaking in a soft tone as he tries to avoid her.

the ptsd was just buried deep, snuffled out by sore attempts to forget the past. doesn’t mean it’s gone, though. sanemi gets let off from the conversations about genya for now and gyomei gets a little more careful around the shinazugawa’s, despite the reassurances that it wasn’t his fault.

(genya doesn’t mind and is mostly worried about sanemi… sanemi, on the other hand, probably agonizes about it for weeks on end :c)

oh she would. it's not like fucking you in public is her preferred place. she would much rather have you at home, able to scream and moan and cry as loud as you want. but sometimes public is just the place to be, in a couple of different scenarios.

there are the times that aren't her own initiation, the days where either you've been a brat and are begging for it, or you just haven't been yourself. in either scenario, she knows a good fuck will help you out, and she knows you need it as soon as possible. so she'll pull you outside and into an alley, or take you to her car, and just fuck whatever it is out of you. if you've purposefully been setting her off all day, she fucks it out of you herself, snapping her hips into yours with an unforgiving force, grunting through her teeth, "you can take it". and if you've been down or just not yourself, she'll let you fuck it out of your own system, encouraging the grind of your hips with soothing coos and soft hands against your skin.

there are also the times where you look so enticing that she can't control herself, pulling you up from your seat and into a bathroom where you tease her about her hormones for no more than a minute, because it's then that she has you bent over the sink in the family bathroom. it's these times where you'll nervously wonder aloud what happens if someone finds you, your voice wobbly from vanessa's thrusting and your own attempts to keep your volume low. she easily reminds you that she is the law, just before she'll threaten you just enough to add an element of fear that makes your walls clench. usually something along the lines of: "if you aren't quiet, someone could come in here and find you like this. is that what you want, baby? i can't protect you if we're caught. i took an oath, sweetheart. you'll be on your own." it's sick, and you know she doesn't really mean it, but the thought of it always makes you cum just a few moments after.

i do not think i could ever emphasise just how much the byler fight + mileven breakup make me truly believe byler endgame.

the mileven breakup is, very obviously, a scene that isnt supposed to be taken seriously. its in a open space, the sky is blue, there are people all around and it also focuses on the other characters (ig. max and lucas and will) which shows that its not a personal moment. you’d think that if this was a serious breakup scene, it would be done in way that makes it feel like its private, not showing anyone but those two but they dont and the emotions you see on mike and el’s faces are more annoyed than upset.

the byler fight however, is literally the exact opposite. it’s isolated, just in mike garage and its only mike and will. lucas is still in the other room yet you forget that he’s there because he kinda just disappears after mike and will leave the basement. its a cold, dark scene and its raining. mike and will are both visibly upset in this scene, they both get mad for a moment but other than that they look like they almost want to cry.

so if you were to ask someone who has never seen stranger things, which scene they thought was the breakup scene. i think we can ALL agree which they would pick. and its NOT the one that EVERY person has laughed at when they watched it for the first time

The Sunshine Court spoilers

this one post about dichotomy of attack vs guard dog was one of the few things i kept thinking about when i was reading this book and how jean's story kind fit into that in few ways:

maybe jean wasn't even meant to be only an attack dog (on the court), but also a starved, obedient one (like the first quote says). a person only doing what was told to him, not to speak out of his turn, never to choose basically anything for himself. starved for his freedom. and trained to attack others on the court to win his master, Riko and Ravens their games.

this whole book was really about the change of how jean thought of himself, slowly and painstakingly learning that maybe he did deserve better. he was waking up from this horrible nightmare, being constantly on lookout for the worst things to happen, trying to overcome his training which was beaten into him since years prior, and fit into the box that his family's name put him into. thinking he was always treated the way he deserved. flinching at the names of people that caused him harm and lashing out only at those that weren't above him.

UNTIL!! until a few helping hands saved him. renee's reassurance and support and words to look out for new things to appreciate life. kevin's help of finding a new place for him where he would be safe and had a chance to start a new life, and neil getting rid of his worst enemies and cleaning out the path before him - he finally found out he could still breathe, to find friends who cared about him, new places to see and things to learn! (like riding a motorcycle if cat teaches him, and ceramics with jeremy, and cooking with laila).
