Been wanting to mark out abt Akira for a minute. Putting it under a readmore cuz spoilers and whatnot.

So, I watched the movie first. Loved it. Then got all 6 volumes of the manga. I’m going through them right now. I’ve finished 1-3 and just got started on 4. Here are some of my thoughts.

Vol 1

It’s interesting to see the differences bw the movie and the manga.

That nurse, omg...how her story is just treated like a brief side note. I feel for her.

It was cool to see Yamagata (rip <3 gone too soon) and Kai have a bit more screen time.

Vol 2

Kei is so cool, but poor thing, when she first gets possessed by the kids. That has to have been spooky af.

On a separate note: Can’t remember if Kei slaps Kaneda in this volume or volume 3, but I just couldn’t help but be like “good for her, it’s what she deserves”.

Idk why, but Ryu and his friend going up to Tetsuo like “are you ok, kid?” on the way down to Akira’s chamber made me lose my shit.

I feel like I saw Tetsuo in this pose so much that now I want to try redrawing it

That Doctor gets it hard compared to the movie, god damn. He had it coming, tho.

Something about the end of this volume made me think “man, Akira just got the worst babysitter ever” and now I’m thinking of like a Baby’s Day Out-esque AU where hijinks ensue as Tetsuo tries to keep Akira, who develops an emotional attachment to him, out of trouble

Vol 3

TAKASHIIIIIIIII ;w; like I saw the panel beforehand but I still was not emotionally prepared for that...and for it to be the thing that “wakes up” Akira..pobrecitos, los dos <\3

Something abt Shikishima making Takashi fight those kids from Lady Miyako’s cult had me upset. >8^( these kids all deserve better
