Yazmin Jauregui stops Istela Nunes in the 2nd round!
Jauregui and Nunes came to work. Nunes was doing a great job early of keeping Jauregui at the end of range and punishing her when she did try to close distance. Dropped her as she tried to step in to throw a leg kick in the first. Jauregui figures out how to get Nunes as she circled out and starts connecting at the end of the round. Nunes could not stay on her bike in that second round. Jauregui finds way to keep connecting. Drops Nunes early in the round, though she’s able to bounce back up and clinch to stop the onslaught. But Jauregui connects again as Nunes is trying to move that back foot and just collapses. Then Jauregui rains down hell with hammerfist and elbows and just stands at one point to throw punches from the top. Ref saw enough and called the fight.
That is two absolute bangers from Yazmin Jauregui in her UFC career. She’s special, man. She’s much watch at 115lbs.

3 Times ONE Championship’s Singapore Athletes Went To The Next Level
Singapore is the birthplace of ONE Championship, so it should come as no surprise that many of the promotion’s stars also hail from “The Lion City.”
The sovereign city-state island has produced World Champions, record-breaking knockout artists, and national heroes.
Here are three of the most memorable performances from ONE’s Singaporean superstars.
1 – Lee Dominates Despite Having Pneumonia
“Unstoppable” Angela Lee has had a storied career in ONE, but martial arts fans may have seen one of the best performances from the ONE Women’s Atomweight World Champion at ONE: DYNASTY OF HEROES in May 2017.
On that night, she faced two-time Muay Thai World Champion Istela Nunes just a week after being diagnosed with pneumonia. In fact, she even vomited minutes before making her way to the Circle at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.
“Unstoppable” lived up to her moniker, though.
After the opening bell, she negated Nunes’ striking and brought her foe to the canvas with a headlock takedown.
The Brazilian tried to wriggle free, but Lee jumped on her back and attempted a rear-naked choke followed by her signature twister.
Nunes survived and in the second stanza, she opened up with more strikes. The Singaporean, however, drove her to the canvas once again.
In a frantic scramble, Lee sunk in an anaconda choke and pelted Nunes’ head with knees.
After a leg trip from “Unstoppable” that saw her rival hit the canvas, Lee clamped down further with the anaconda until Nunes was forced to tap.
2 – ‘The Warrior’ Unseats A Japanese Legend
Christian “The Warrior” Lee stunned fans inside the Singapore Indoor Stadium at ONE: ENTER THE DRAGON in May 2019.
Lee, who had been competing in ONE’s featherweight division, jumped up a weight class to challenge then-ONE Lightweight World Champion Shinya “Tobikan Judan” Aoki for the belt.
After the bell for round one rang, the Japanese legend took “The Warrior” down and eventually secured a deep armbar. But Lee, whose arm had been manipulated in multiple ways, survived the period.
Showing the true grit that would turn him into a World Champion, Lee came out in round two fired up.
He stuffed further takedown attempts from Aoki and even backed him into the corner of the ring.
Once trapped, “Tobikan Judan” had no way to escape and the Singaporean sparked him with a right cross and then a straight left, which rocked the veteran.
“The Warrior” continued to pummel Aoki until the referee waved off the bout, declaring Lee the new ONE Lightweight World Champion.
3 Khan Switches To Submission
Amir Khan may share the number one spot with “The Warrior” for most knockouts in the Circle, but at ONE: BEYOND THE HORIZON in September 2018, he dazzled fans with a submission win over former ONE Featherweight World Champion Honorio “The Rock” Banario.
The two lightweights opened the contest swinging hard and fast, but after “The Rock” threw a telegraphed combination at Khan, the Singaporean changed levels and toppled Banario with a takedown.
Banario returned to his feet and continued to strike, but his opponent wanted no part in the exchange. Khan shot for another takedown, but after the unsuccessful attempt, he took the back of his Filipino rival and brought him to the canvas.
The Singaporean then sought out a rear-naked choke, and although “The Rock” initially defended it well, it was only a matter of time before Khan was able to sink in the bout-winning submission.

Love the snub! Unstoppable at Dynasty of Heroes!
Dynasty of Heroes, Singapore. What an awesome event, my daughters really enjoyed it too!!! The only “negative” thing for me regarding the event was that there weren’t any programs available for sale like the previous event, whats up with that?! Was really looking forward to getting one, Bummer!
Anyways, although I didn’t get to shoot backstage this time (I wasn’t able to rsvp in the 2 hour…

Ooooooh snap
Istela Nunes’ elbow just popped. Posted trying to defend an errant single leg attack from Viktoriya Dudakova and hyper extended the complete wrong way. Arm folded all the way back. You really hate to see that.
This is why I’m telling y’all - DO NOT POST WITH YOUR ARM. That thing will snap.
Viktoriya Dudakova technically gets the win in her ufc debut.

The Hunger To Succeed Has Driven Istela Nunes To Title Shot In ONE Championship
Not many martial artists get to become world champions. Even fewer get the opportunity to do so in multiple disciplines by the age of just 24. On Friday Night, 26 May, Istela Nunes has that chance at ONE: DYNASTY OF HEROES.
The two-time Muay Thai world champion will vie for the ONE Women’s Atomweight World Championship against “Unstoppable” Angela Lee, an international superstar who has sat at the top of the division’s ladder since defeating Mei Yamaguchi a year ago.
Brazil’s Nunes brings an unbeaten 5-0 (1 NC) record with her as challenger, which also includes a win over Yamaguchi. The champion, Lee, is also undefeated at 7-0, and this gives this tilt all the markings of a potentially explosive spectacle when the pair meet in the main event at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.
The similarities do not end at the records, as both athletes can cite their families as the biggest influences on their martial arts journeys. Although Nunes' father was not her coach - unlike the Lee family - it was him who ushered his children towards it, and supported them on the path to success.
At age 5, Nunes took up capoeira with her older and younger brothers, but she eventually made the switch to Muay Thai when she was 10. Though she enjoyed the training, there was a catalyst to her becoming competitive — a gym bully.
Although Nunes trained in Muay Thai purely for recreation with no thoughts of competing, there was a boy at her gym who always picked on her. This caused her to train more seriously, to the point that she was able to defeat that boy.
“Three months after that, I had my first professional fight and fell in love with Muay Thai,” recalls Nunes.
These kinds of situations in a child’s formative years can make or break a person. Thankfully, Nunes found the strength to beat the bully at his own game, which is inspirational in itself. However, then going on to claim world titles and operate at the sport's elite level was another matter altogether.
Success did not come easily though. A career in combat sports rarely does. There is sacrifice, and hour after hour of hard training. There has to be a real hunger to keep an athlete motivated to succeed. Nunes was hungry – literally.
"I spent a lot of time away from my family and everyone to sleep on mats, and to choose between eating lunch or dinner, because that is all I had," the Brazilian recalls.
Those sacrifices earned her the WMF and WMO Muay Thai World Titles, as well as the distinction of being the first Brazilian woman to win a world championship in Thailand.
The titles and success were worth it at the time, but Nunes decided to take a step back after amassing a 52-4 record and hitting a ceiling within the sport. A complete lifestyle change saw her go to the comforts of a day job, with guaranteed money at the end of the month and food in her stomach. However, for someone who has achieved so much, there was still a competitive itch to be scratched.
Ultimately, that led Nunes to a much-needed new challenge. She picked up Brazilian jiu-jitsu, which then led her to full-blown mixed martial arts competition, where she could combine her already extensive striking knowledge with a newfound grappling prowess.
In less than two years, the Brazilian heroine has made a massive name for herself. With five victories under her belt and a fantastic debut win over Mei Yamaguchi in her first ONE Championship outing, she fought her way into title contention. Now, she gets the chance to become the ONE Women’s Atomweight World Champion, though she has a formidable challenge ahead in Lee.
It would be hard to achieve so much in such a short space of time without having a solid support network around her. Nunes' father, who set her on the right track in her early years, was always there to believe in her and motivate her, along with her mother and siblings.
Sadly, she lost her father six months ago, but she is determined to succeed in his memory, and that is all the motivation she will need as her date with destiny on 26 May approaches.
"I think that this fight now will be for him,” she says. “I cannot dedicate it anyone else.”
