Axel Vervoordt has transformed a 17th century military barracks into a minimalist home. This house near Bruges, Belgium, was designed by the designer for an old friend. An absolute aesthete, Johan Vandendriessche, a Belgian real estate entrepreneur, fell in love with the historic building at first sight as easily as a work of art.

Unnerving and physical, with the actor really harnessing his body, Redmayne’s West End portrayal of the Emcee wowed audiences and critics, landing him an Olivier for Best Actor in a Musical. #JackedKirby - An Explosion at Castle Rakenstein!!! 💥💥💥 The Demon is one of our personal favorite Kirby series here at Jacked Kirby, and one of the definitive reasons we love it so much is the abundance of splash pages that Kirby incorporated into the run... especially the TWO PAGE beauties that litter the 18 issues of the series. Never one to waste one inch of space, Kirby was notorious for squeezing maximum potential out of every inch of layout, especially in these two page monstrosities! 💥💥💥 Take this double splash that comes right after the opening splash page of #Issue13 (published Oct of 1973). Three consecutive splash pages to open an issue... and the amount of action and mayhem Kirby managed to squeeze into this double page is off the charts. We see Dr Rakenstein and his evil assistant Igor reeling from the explosions erupting in his lab around them... debris and equipment flying through the air, skeletons and lab samples scattered through the flames! And Etrigan is right there, taking it all in and trying to apprehend his nemesis! (Pic 1). 💥💥💥 Pics 2/3 of this post are close ups of each half of the dual page spread... you gotta love the signature Kirby HANDS on Dr Rakenstein (pic 2) and the wonderful use of “Kirby Krackle” to accentuate the flames around Igor from the explosions (pic 3). The craziest part about this spread has to be that The Demon himself is flying dynamically through the air in a death-defying move and yet he is one of the most underwhelming figure in the whole spread!!! Hello, and thank you for your patience! We are excited to bring you our last issue of 2019: a brand-new 60-paged behemoth replete with the creative vitality and genius of 26 Sino diasporic creators around the world.

Issue #13 “FORM 形” is an exploration of all the strangest, best-loved mis- and dis-placed shapes and shapeshifters in our lives. 

In her latest editorial, editor-in-chief Jiaqi Kang muses on the common denominator of racism that often unites diasporic experiences and sinθ’s hopes for a deeper, schistic understanding of the rickety, amorphous, beautiful thing that is diasporic identity in her latest riveting editorial.

Art director Elisabeth Siegel had the opportunity to sit down with Yale’s Director of Undergraduate Studies for Architecture, Dr. Joyce Hsiang, to converse about Dr. Hsiang’s foundations and familial influences in the architectural field, her perceptions of “sustainability,” and anticipated future projects.

We feature egg-cellent works—poetry by Emily Lu and installation art by Sonia Cheng—alongside reflective and visceral fiction by Kevin Robert Fong, Allison Huang, K. K. Mai, and Lily Amelia Susman; luminous photography by Wenkai Wang, Chunfeng Lu, Isaac Sy and Kevin Lu; and a host of multi-formed, multidimensional written, visual, and installation creations by Sino diasporic creatives around the world.

From pottery and rice to papayas and poetry on Publix supermarkets, Issue #13 is rich with shapes and places both familiar and foreign, near and far. Read on for a journey through interiority and promise along the subway tracks and into burdened stomachs. We have cumulated works of all shapes, sizes, and distributions to bring you the wobbly, whimsical wonders that FORM embodies.
