When I was a kid I tested positive but it’s impossible to tell if it’s because I was exposed and fought it off or if I had a nascent infection. As an adult I took nine months of antibiotics in order to work in a setting with vulnerable populations. It sucked at the time but at least now I know that I’m not a ticking time bomb of TB.
Isoniazid shouldn’t be inaccessible for anybody.
Tuberculosis is both a form and an expression of global injustice: A disease that has been curable since the mid-1950s is nonetheless the world's deadliest infectious disease in 2024.

Medblr, I think we ought to have an antibiotics bracket. Just for fun. Everyone can submit their favorite antibiotic regimens and write propaganda for them (or anti-propaganda for the ones you hate) before we crown the one true antibiotic (regimen). Doesn’t have to be a single medication, it can be a combo. Here’s some of what I’m thinking of including:
vanc/zosyn
Azithromycin
Amp/gent
Rifampin/isoniazid/pyrazinamide/ethambutol
Augmentin
Cephalexin
Vanc/ceftriaxone
Amphotericin
Nitrofurantoin
Vote however you want—what you prescribe most, best side effect profile, most interesting mechanism, vibes, whatever. Let me know what other antibiotics you think I should include!

introduction of my main oc Valdis !!
I do not post any oc artwork here, but I draw this guy so much.. I might as well!
Valdis was born with a fictional birth defect, causing him a lot of pain, surgeries, and nights in the hospital. He had to go through physical therapy to even begin to move his limbs. He can regrow his body if injured.
Now, he works a dead end job in a bank. He does accounting and customer service, which makes him very busy and often he has to take some work home.
Valdis is dating/married to Isoniazid, an eccentric trans man, who's obsessed with the 80s. They met through a work call.
Valdis is mostly used as a vent/comfort oc. He's extremely personal to me and my boundaries with him are very tight. I would love any and all fanart though, as long as it's not gross or romanticized!

Sirius black or if you want to practice a pedi ? - how about James Sirius?
Good luck - 🍀
Sirius - TB is a common disease that incarcerated patients obtain. Oh man there is so much to say about TB. Sputum stains acid-fast. There are two tests, the blood test, Quantiferon Gold Assay and the PPD skin test. If a patient has HIV, then an induration <5 then it is positive, At risk (health care workers), are positive <10mm, general population <15 mm. PPD tests are positive in latent, active, and those who have been vaccinated with the BCG vaccine, so a confirmation for an active infection needs to be done with a chest xray. Inactive TB is treated with 7 months of isoniazid and pyrazinamide. Active TB is treated with RIPE - Rifampin Isoniazid, Pyrazinamide, and Ethambutol. Side effects include red piss (rifampin), elevated Liver enzymes, sideroblastic anemia (isoniazid), B6 deficiency, red green colorblindness, and others.
James Sirius has ADHD. Diagnosis needs to be made at 2 different settings for >6 months. So most kids get diagnosed from input from their teacher at school and their parents at home. Hyperactive activity and distractibility. Treatment (which I needed to review!): First line is CBT and stimulants, methylphenidate and amphetamines. Those are considered controlled substances, so if the parent does not want them to have a controlled substance, can treat with nonstimulants like atomoxetine and alpha 2 blockers.

Who Is the Best TB Specialist in India for Effective Tuberculosis Treatment?
A TB specialist in India plays a vital role in diagnosing, treating, and managing tuberculosis, a contagious and potentially serious bacterial infection that primarily affects the lungs. India, with one of the highest TB burdens in the world, has numerous experienced specialists dedicated to combating this disease, often through both public healthcare systems and private practices.
TB specialists are typically pulmonologists, infectious disease experts, or respiratory medicine doctors with additional expertise in TB care. They conduct thorough assessments, including advanced diagnostic testing, to confirm the presence of TB. Following diagnosis, these specialists design personalized treatment plans, often combining multiple medications over an extended period to ensure successful recovery and prevent drug-resistant TB strains.
Top TB specialists in India are well-versed in the latest protocols and guidelines established by the World Health Organization (WHO) and India’s Revised National TB Control Program (RNTCP). They prioritize patient education, emphasizing adherence to prescribed treatment regimens, which is crucial for full recovery. Many of these specialists are based in major cities with access to advanced diagnostic tools and treatment facilities, ensuring that patients receive high-quality care tailored to their needs.
In TB treatment, there are generally four stages of patient care, guided by TB specialists to manage and eradicate the disease effectively. Here’s a breakdown of these stages:
1. Screening and Diagnosis
This initial stage involves identifying TB symptoms (like persistent cough, fever, night sweats) and confirming the diagnosis using tests such as a chest X-ray, sputum test, or the Tuberculin Skin Test (TST). Accurate diagnosis is crucial to differentiate between latent TB and active TB.
2. Initiation of Treatment
After diagnosis, the specialist begins treatment with a combination of antibiotics. The primary treatment duration is 6-9 months, typically starting with an intensive phase where multiple medications (such as isoniazid, rifampicin, pyrazinamide, and ethambutol) are given daily for 2-3 months.
3. Continuation Phase
In this phase, fewer drugs are administered over the remaining months. Adherence to the medication schedule is monitored closely to avoid drug-resistant TB. Regular follow-ups help in managing side effects and assessing progress.
4. Monitoring and Completion
This final stage ensures the patient completes the full course of medication, confirmed through final tests to verify recovery. Post-treatment check-ups help ensure TB does not recur, particularly in cases of drug-resistant TB.
These stages are followed rigorously by TB specialists in India to achieve successful treatment outcomes.

Understanding the Role of MGMT Promoter Methylation, COVID Rapid Antigen Test, and Tuberculosis Detection Kits
In the ever-evolving world of diagnostics and molecular biology, advancements in testing kits and diagnostic tools have brought transformative changes. 3B BlackBio Biotech, a leader in the field, offers specialized kits that cover crucial areas of disease detection and research. Among its standout products are the MGMT Promoter Methylation Detection Kit, the COVID-19 Rapid Antigen Test, and the Tuberculosis Detection Kit. These products are pivotal in different domains of health diagnostics, ranging from cancer research to infectious disease detection.
MGMT Promoter Methylation: Advancing Cancer Diagnostics
MGMT promoter methylation is a critical biomarker in cancer, especially for brain tumors such as glioblastomas. O6-methylguanine-DNA methyltransferase (MGMT) is a DNA repair enzyme that protects cells from mutations caused by alkylating agents, a type of chemotherapy drug used in cancer treatment. However, when the promoter region of the MGMT gene is methylated, the expression of this repair enzyme is silenced. This lack of MGMT activity makes the cancer cells more sensitive to alkylating agents, improving the effectiveness of chemotherapy treatments.
The MGMT Promoter Methylation Detection Kit offered by 3B BlackBio Biotech enables precise and efficient detection of MGMT promoter methylation in patient samples. This kit plays a pivotal role in identifying patients who are more likely to benefit from alkylating agent chemotherapy.
This kit is a game-changer in the field of personalized medicine, as it provides critical insights that help in making informed treatment decisions. The ease of use, high sensitivity, and specificity of the 3B BlackBio Biotech MGMT Promoter Methylation Detection Kit make it a valuable tool for laboratories and researchers working in oncology.
COVID-19 Rapid Antigen Test: Fighting the Pandemic with Speed and Precision
The global COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the need for rapid, accurate testing solutions to manage and control the spread of the virus. While PCR tests remain the gold standard for detecting SARS-CoV-2, rapid antigen tests offer a convenient, quick, and cost-effective alternative, especially for mass testing in situations where immediate results are crucial.
The COVID Rapid Antigen Test developed by 3B BlackBio Biotech is a point-of-care diagnostic tool designed to detect active COVID-19 infection. The test detects viral antigens in nasopharyngeal samples and delivers results in just a few minutes. This rapid turnaround time makes the test ideal for use in high-traffic areas such as airports, schools, and workplaces, where timely identification of positive cases is critical for controlling outbreaks.
Rapid antigen tests are particularly useful in detecting symptomatic cases, although they may have slightly lower sensitivity compared to PCR tests. However, their ease of use and accessibility make them a valuable tool in complementing other testing strategies. The 3B BlackBio Biotech COVID-19 Rapid Antigen Test is known for its reliability and accuracy, providing healthcare professionals with a fast and efficient way to screen for COVID-19.
Tuberculosis Detection Kit: Addressing a Global Health Challenge
Tuberculosis (TB) remains a significant global health concern, especially in low- and middle-income countries where access to effective diagnostics is limited. The rise of drug-resistant TB strains has made treatment more challenging, driving the need for advanced diagnostic tools.
3B BlackBio Biotech’s Tuberculosis Detection Kit offers a molecular diagnostic approach to detect multi-drug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB). MDR-TB develops when the tuberculosis-causing bacteria become resistant to the two most effective first-line anti-TB medications, isoniazid and rifampicin. Diagnosing MDR-TB early is crucial for initiating appropriate treatment regimens and preventing the spread of resistant strains.
The Tuberculosis Drug Resistance Detection Kit developed by 3B BlackBio Biotech is a PCR-based test that identifies genetic mutations responsible for drug resistance in TB bacteria. This kit allows for rapid and accurate detection of drug-resistant TB, enabling healthcare providers to design effective treatment strategies tailored to each patient’s needs. By facilitating early and precise diagnosis, this kit plays a key role in global TB control efforts, especially in regions with high TB burdens.
3B BlackBio Biotech's Commitment to Advanced Diagnostics
In an era where accurate and rapid diagnostics are essential for effective disease management, 3B BlackBio Biotech has emerged as a leader in providing innovative solutions. The MGMT Promoter Methylation Detection Kit, COVID-19 Rapid Antigen Test, and Tuberculosis Kit are examples of their commitment to advancing healthcare through cutting-edge molecular diagnostics. For more information about products, visit at- https://3bblackbio.com/.
Whether it’s enabling personalized cancer treatment, helping to manage the spread of COVID-19, or addressing the challenges of drug-resistant tuberculosis, 3B BlackBio Biotech’s range of diagnostic kits are at the forefront of improving patient care. Their products underscore the importance of precision, speed, and reliability in modern diagnostics, making them invaluable tools for laboratories, healthcare professionals, and researchers worldwide.

Examples of variables with bimodal distributions include the time between eruptions of certain geysers, the color of galaxies, the size of worker weaver ants, the age of incidence of Hodgkin's lymphoma, the speed of inactivation of the drug isoniazid in US adults, the absolute magnitude of novae, and the circadian activity patterns of those crepuscular animals that are active both in morning and evening twilight.
Really love the range of examples here in the wikipedia entry on multimodal distributions
