Blossoms and Blurs: Evening at Gumyoji Temple's Gate・仁王門から弘明寺の本堂へ続く石段には上りと桜が
Location: Gumyoji, Minami Ward, Yokohama, Japan Timestamp: 18:19・2024/04/09
Fujifilm X100V with 5% diffusion filter ISO 160 for 10 sec. at ƒ/11 Classic Negative film simulation
This photograph captures the Niōmon Gate of Gumyoji Temple, the oldest Buddhist temple in Yokohama, during a tranquil evening.
Taken from the top of the stone staircase, the shot showcases the historic gate illuminated softly in the background, while cherry blossoms frame the scene with their delicate petals. The image employs a long exposure technique, resulting in the ethereal blur of the nobori flags along the stairs, which add a dynamic element to the otherwise calm and serene composition.
The subtle play of light and shadow highlights the intricate details of the temple architecture and the surrounding foliage, creating a compelling contrast between the past and present.
Shot with a Fujifilm X100V camera and a standard wide-angle lens (equivalent to 35mm on a full-frame sensor), this photo encapsulates the beauty and peaceful ambiance of Gumyoji Temple at dusk.

Midterm: Golden Hour
An unshapeful longing
Golden hour is a time zone that helps you capture many things in pictures. People look at the sunset, reminisce about the nostalgia for the old memories, look back on their lives, and think deeply about what they love. I captured beautiful and romantic parts of many golden hours. All those moments sometimes taught me what love is, what tranquility is, what loneliness is all about, and what longing for my hometown is.
My out-of-focus photographs are very abstract. Since recently, I have been very interested and impressed by the out-of-focus photographs. I found these out-of-focus, blurry pictures to be similar to how I view the world when I feel lonely, hurt, or touched, and my eyes are in tears. Out-of-focus photographs remind me of nostalgia and regret for the past. Our memories cannot remember everything clearly, so that point is similar to a picture where everything is vague, crumbled up, and challenging to see.
The series shows the never-ending loneliness of a person who lives as a foreigner in the U.S. The pictures have warm colors but present a lonely atmosphere. And some of them also bring back memories of my childhood. I wanted to express my subjective view of facing sadness while thinking about memories and my pessimistic view of the world through pictures. The world may look beautiful, but it is too lonely for me and sometimes hard to bear.

The Kachina column and site of a spiritual energy vortex. Near the trailhead for the Boynton Canyon Trail. Just outside of the Enchantment Resort, Sedona, AZ.
On the other sidem there are pitons or something near the top so people climb this thing.
I like the way the right angled, rectangular blocks seemed to be breaking out from underneath the organic looking rock, about two thirds of the way up. It's as if an ancient Egyptian edifice has been encased in natural rock.
HDR reconstruction using Canon DPP4.17.10 freeware as well as for denoise, sharpening and color adjust - Canon SL3 on tripod, 2s timer release, f/9, ISO 100, 50mm; 1/50, 1/160 and 1/500s exposures.Cheers!

In the dense jungles of Borneo, the shadows often hide more than they reveal. Here, a macaque silently observes its surroundings, perched high on a tree limb, blending effortlessly into the foliage. Its keen gaze hints at both curiosity and vigilance, embodying the mystery of the jungle. Wildlife like this macaque plays a crucial role in the ecosystem, balancing the delicate dance between predator and prey. For those who venture into these wild realms, such encounters offer rare glimpses into the world that thrives above, in the tangled canopy of life.
