But, flowers are cute, I have the image that is easily understood but,
The leaves, are cute,
Right? Do you get it?
Nah, they're super cute🪴 The leaves🪴
But at the same time,
Leaves are? Cute..?
I'll suddenly wonder if I understand myselfff Decorating with branches is also cute..🪴
The other day with Takeuchi Akari-san,

Congratulations to the Class of 2024
It's no secret that 2024 has been a very eventful year when it comes to graduation.
(Hell, I'm writing this very poll in early July, just barely a week after Yuhane's graduation and almost 24 hours since Kawamuu's announcement. Of course, since Daylight Savings is a thing where I am, sorry if this ends up scheduled weird.)
You're never ready for your oshi's graduation—nor will you ever be—but some cut more than others.

Translation: Model Press Feb 21, 2025: Volume 2
In this part of the interview, Maria talks about appearing on various shows and what's that like, how the group is changing with long-standing members graduating, taking over their parts, her own thoughts on graduating (or lack thereof!) and more. I'll have part 3 done later, so please look forward to that, and as always, please do not repost this anywhere!
You've been active in a variety of activities, including being a season regular on "Love It!" twice (July-September 2022, July-September 2024), and appearing on sports programs as a fan of the "Nippon Ham Fighters", so how do you feel about your success? I'm filled with gratitude like, "thank you very much for inviting Makino Maria." Especially on "Love It!" when I was a season regular on it last year, Kawashima Akira-san said to me, "do whatever you want. I'll take it all in, so let's do our best together," on the first day, so I think that he's the one who can help me make the most of me! I looked forward to it every week because it's a very warm show, and I think that it made me be able to do my best every day.
Were you a little nervous when you were first chosen as a season regular for it? I was really nervous when I first started, but I rely on them so much that I don't feel anxious at all. Even if I wasn't speaking well, Kawashima-san would help me out, and when I was a regular last season on Tuesdays, Wakatsuki Chinatsu-san would always greet me each week like, "Maria, good morning!" So I felt really happy to be able to be on such a warm show. In my latest photobook, there are actually bottoms that I wear which were given to me as a present from Chinatsu-san! I wore them as my personal clothes while in Vietnam, and as we were doing the shoot, I was like, "I like these clothes! I'll wear them!" I was happy to have her clothes appear with me!
That's so wonderful! Did you tell her that? I did! I really wanted to look at her books to learn, but I thought, "I think this might be a little too soon for me!" (Laughs) I can't say this to her, but someday, I want to be the pin up queen like she is.
I think that there are a lot of people who are looking forward to the more mature you! You've gotten quite a big response from the fans on your appearances on these kinds of shows. I have! I get a lot of comment from the fans, people I work with, and my baseball friends that are like, "I saw you on 'Love It!'", so I'm really happy that people are getting to know about me through these various places, and I really feel honoured to be invited to be on a show that so many people love.
As for the group, in December 2024, Ishida Ayumi-san graduated, and Ikuta Erina-san will also be graduating this spring, so you, who has been in the group for over ten years, will becoming more and more of a leader-like presence. As the group changes shape, are there times where you feel anxious, or bitter? I've never felt bitter, but if I said I never felt anxious, that would be a lie. Every time a member graduates, I always find another problem, so I get worried like, "will I be okay without this member," but it's because of these changes that the group has been able to continue like this, so I always think, "I have to do my best," since I think that it's an important time for the group to be moving in one direction.
What are some of those problems you find as a senior graduates? When I take over the part of a senior who has graduated. Being close to them, I think they're amazing, but when they're not there, I once again realize how great they are and what an important part they had like, "they did this kind of hard part." For example, after Ishida Ayumi-san graduated, I was asked to do the last phrase of the song "One Two Three," which she had sung. That part was originally done by Michishige Sayumi-san, and after she graduated, it was given to Ishida-san, but this was just after I had joined the group, so I was able to see her practicing it a lot from up close. I remembered how much effort she put into it when I was give it, and now that I'm in the same situation, I thought, "I want to cherish this even more," and it made me feel strongly that, "I definitely want to keep this part and sing it until the end."
What efforts did you take to be able to take over your seniors parts and sing them? I think that when a member leaves, there's a gaping hole, and you really do feel a sense of loneliness. But, I think that we have to overcome that, so, every time, I ask the OG who come to watch our concerts, the tour staff who are always watching us from next to us, the singing instructors, dance instructors, and those who have helped me out, "please tell me your honest feelings about this!" Then, I take their advice with my own intuition like, "this is what I'm lacking," or, "I have to do it like this," so I can overcome any issues that I find.
Do you often realize them after getting advice from your seniors and teachers? I didn't realize, or rather, I become aware of it because, "even though I might have noticed it, now it's been conveyed to me," through the presence of those members. The number of members decreases, and when a member who has always been supporting us by singing or dancing leaves, someone else will take their place, which is something that definitely happens when a member graduates, but I don't want that to be so obvious, which is why I always feel like it's a difficult task.
Now that the group's shape has changed, have you all discussed how you want to present yourselves with the current form? I think that the members probably all feel the same way, so now, I've been talking a lot with Oda Sakura-san. Ishida Ayumi-san, who graduated last year, really led the group with her dancing, and outside of that, she was also the member who was the most passionate about the group. But, now I think freely that Oda-san is the one who has taken over that passion, and I hope that I can support her. So, I think that we often talk about our performances, and what we want to work hard on in the group, and challenges we face like, "it would be great if we could do it like this," while on tour.
You discuss it with Oda-san, and then share it with the other members. Right. But, I think that first of all, I have to be able to do it. Singing and dancing is an eteral challenge for me, but I never want to lose my passion for the group, so first, I'm filled with feelings of wanting to do my best.
Has seeing your seniors graduate and take new steps forward changed your mindset about your future activities? There are a lot of members who have graduated to chase their dreams, but I haven't changed my mind at all about that at this point. I joined Morning Musume because I wanted to be in it, and I haven't thought about what comes after that, yet. I'm filled with feelings of, "I want to do my best in Morning Musume," and so I intend to do my best in my activities.

You know what would be the biggest plot-twist at this point? When at the end of 2020 a graduation would be announced and the last 4 9ki/10ki members would be graduating together. That's something nobody would see coming. But it would sure as hell get attention in no time. UFA pulling a surprise massgrad 10 years after the last one.

FAQS -- momusus25 [2025.02]

What does 2011-Present mean?
Morning Musume. as a whole has been active since 1997, but this blog is mainly dedicated to the active generations right now. Since Ikuta Erina is the member with the most seniority right now, the earliest posts will typically be from 2011-2012.
Will you post OGs?
Important updates for any OG member will be posted, but this blog is primarily dedicated to the current lineup. That being said, Colorful / Mizu-ki era OGs (Michishige, Tanaka, Sayashi, Suzuki, Fukumura, Iikubo, Ishida, Sato, Kudo, Ogata, Kaga, Morito, etc.) will be posted every now and then.
Will you post blog updates?
Unfortunately, I am not a translator. This is mainly meant to be a picture archive so magazine scans / merchandise / blog / instagram posts are more likely to be seen here, but I will post performances every now and then!
Can we send asks?
Of course! If you want a specific member and/or magazine scan to be posted, you can just ask!
How does tagging work?
Tags are as follows:
(member name) = current member's tags (i.e inoue haruka)
(member name) [graduated] = indicates a member is no longer in the group (i.e ishida ayumi (graduated))
morning musume 25 = current group tag
nechin 📸 = haga akane's photography.
motto morning musume = live performance.
member intro = small post introducing a member / fun facts about them.
this list will be updated as time goes on!
Will you post photobook scans?
For my own personal boundaries, if the member wasn't at least 20 years old at the time of shooting their photobook, I will not be posting scans from it. Thank you!

“Wakaindashi!”
Coupled with “Jamashinaide Here We Go!” and “Dokyuu No Go Sign”
Release date: Oct. 4, 2017
Oricon Weekly placement: 2nd
Members: Akane Haga, Ayumi Ishida, Chisaki Morito, Erina Ikuta, Haruka Kudo, Haruna Iikubo, Haruna Ogata, Kaede Kaga, Maria Makino, Masaki Sato, Miki Nonaka, Mizuki Fukumura, Reina Yokoyama, Sakura Oda
Superhuman. Larger than life. I used those words the most to describe Morning Musume from the 2010s than perhaps any other era. They constantly preached about ambition and self-growth, and their self-discipline to remain faithful to their own work ethic while not succumbing to their vices made them look extraordinary. At the very least, they seem to have their life more together than the common people. After all, they are members of Morning Musume, one of the leading idol groups in Japan.
So why graduate? Why leave such an established institution especially when you are thriving at its center? Why throw away all your hard work that you’ve dedicated your precious teenage years for? “Wakaindashi!” suggests, well, why not? It’s absolutely scary to step away from the place that has given you a sense of identity and purpose. But “Wakaindashi” hands an important message to not just Haruka Kudo, the graduating idol this song is dedicated to, but every other idol who finds Hello! Project as their home: that your time with Morning Musume, or whatever group, is not your peak but just the beginning of your incredible journey.
The song makes not stepping outside of your comfort zone sound like a dumb idea. Just look at the title: “You’re young anyway!” How stupid would it be not to take advantage of your years? It doesn’t deny the hardships to come, but it also dismisses them as such an obvious truth that it’s boring to obsess over. The breezy music doesn’t allow much room for doubt either; it’s almost a waste to let any bad thoughts creep in. “Don’t worry about the result,” they sing, with the lyrics echoing like a direct message to Kudo from Tsunku himself.
“What can I do,” the idols wonder. Kudo and her nickname Duu inspire the playful refrain, but her biography also stands in as a good example that informs the song’s graduation narrative. She started with Hello! Project at 10 years old, got in Morning Musume when she was 12 and announced her leave at 18. She already invested so much of her formative years into being an idol, and she was about to begin her twenties: it’s a great timing as any to try something new and figure out what else can I do?
Since her departure, the former idol has put in time with acting, appearing on TV, theater and an upcoming film. Kudo’s trajectory is a familiar one for former Hello! Project idols. Morning Musume alone have dozens of alumna participating in the media as a TV talent, actresses or models. Others pursue careers outside of entertainment, and “Wakaindashi” respects that decision too; if anything, the song may commend those characters more.
It’s inspiring that such a message can come from an established company like Hello! Project. The graduation system for better or worse can make it feel as though members simply come and go, so I often have an image of graduation as idols being fading into obsolescence. “Wakaindashi” frames graduation as more of an optimistic rite of passage and their years with Hello! Project as a time where they prepare to take on what comes after.
I also understand that that’s also a self-centered perspective that ignores that idols are people, too. Idols choose to graduate; they considered the options and they were brave enough to decide to pursue their potential outside of idol life. And they continue to lead a life of their own well after they stop identifying themselves as idols, whether or not they continue to be in entertainment. Their superhuman qualities don’t disappear just because they graduate. The real superhuman act, “Wakaindashi” reminds, is to have the courage to let go everything you’ve known to search for something else.

🌸
My "WE CAN DANCE!" tour memories with Oda:
The ever-proactive Oda said to me, "I have to learn as much as I can about dancing from you, Ishida-san!!" We spent lots of time side by side, practicing our dance steps and isolation moves together.
And of course, everyone's favourite: the freestyle dance segment in Morning Curry 🍛🥄
It all started during rehearsals when I was messing around and did something like an Indian dance (?) while the instructor was working with the other members. Oda said, "You should totally do it on stage at our fourth concert over the weekend~ It would really cheer me up~"
I started goofing off during our second night in Osaka, then began to switch it up every concert beginning with the Nagano daytime show. By the same night, everyone was already adapting to my antics (wow!) And at the night in Gunma, the silly faces we made suddenly started getting shown on the big monitors too.
This secret little joke we started without even the dance instructors knowing grew into one of the biggest highlights of our show, lol. I really had so much fun and looked forward to everyone's reactions every time.
I probably would've done it even if Oda hadn't suggested to, but… "Am I overdoing it?" "Should I try this?" "Would this be funny?" Etc, etc - I always checked in with Oda first (and not just about this curry bit). She gave me so much feedback, positive or negative, and was the person I turned to before sharing any ideas with others. So many times she gave me the encouragement to go ahead, or held me back when I needed it.
Now she's cut off all ties with me, what do I do 😕😕 Starting our relationship from scratch will take me another 10 years to get here. Is that okay? 😕😕
We still have a long road ahead so I guess that's okay. Thanks, let's keep going, and do your best!
