Hark it is an ISAT Christmas, and as such, here is my gift for @moonlitphoenixflight . Fellow Nine Sols enjoyer spotted! Many thoughts on your AU, and below the cut will be some of those thoughts and sketches.

A lot of these are your original assignments but I also had a bunch of ideas differing from yours I wanted to explore, the prime of which was Bonnie as Shuanshuan (Buan Buan...) because it fits so perfectly imo. I understand wanting all 10 Sols assigned but I follow what fits best. I originally was like "obviously if Bonnie is Shuanshuan Nille has to be Shennong" but I actually later realized the best Shennong fit was actually Odile! Knowledgable but stubborn older person with a penchant for drinking that is notably on the outs with their home community/feels othered but deep down cares for others. Which I'm pretty happy with that assignment! BUT I will say Nille and Bonnie being Fuxi and Nuwa does pose an interesting story beat.

I wasn't happy with Mirabelle as Goumang, or Lady Ethereal, or really any Sol, but I think it was you who later suggested Mirabelle be Heng, which I'm 100% down for. I just didn't get time to sketch it out.

Also Si (Siffrin Yi) gets hookswords :)

For your consideration on basing body types- chien (young) and chien(older) for Bonnie and Nille? Chien is the babyest baby ever when she's younger and when she became a dusk guardian she got some (read: a lot)muscle on her while keeping her cute face.

Older/younger chien is probably a mostly good reference for Bonnie and Nille. Just with a little bit more shape for Bonnie, still round but not literally a circle like baby chien, more fishing cat shaped for their head. And for Nille definitely strong, but ever so slightly lankier than adult chien and more of a serval head shape.

A base of chien, slightly squished around towards the two different cats probably works for a good balance between similar because they’re siblings and distinct enough designs to be visually more interesting!

I was actually thinking about various cats to base the shapes of the solarian forms of the isat characters off of and this is definitely the right vibes! I agree that there should be a liiittle something extra going on with her design, maybe dipping slightly further into the Odile side of the outfit for her coat and add some diamond shapes and/or diamonds? I’m not explaining this super well

I have other stuff I’ve been spending my ‘do art’ energy on but this makes me really want to also draw stuff for this au! (and your side of it too!)

it is in no way on you, do whatever works best! All I wanted to do was make sure tumblr didn’t eat them :)

the style of time loop is probably going to have to be somewhat different than in isat. nine sols doesnt have a confirmed in universe length i dont think but its definitely at least in the realm of a couple of weeks. ill go with a month for the typical loop length nine stars would get.

the way isat handles the puzzle of its loops is very much built for the 1.5-2 days length. itll definitely need some workshopping but my instinct is to first have an act 2 equivalent pretty isat standard, get to the end, win. but then after that its more of a save-scumming style loop puzzle, for lack of a better term. one where siffrin focuses on one section at a time, to get towards the end of the loops, as opposed to isat where its a lot of hopping around. the chunks of time each 'puzzle' exists within are larger than nine sols save points and involve more than getting through the enemies, regular nine sols gameplay is covered in act 2

for loop though all bets are off, in saap they arent in control of where they loop to, so in their nine stars loops, they have no hope of being able to coordinate their time travel advantage to be able to get the ending they want!! doomed by the narrative :) (its me im the narrative)

[also i dont want to pester you again if youre just pondering it but i do want to make sure the ask i sent about mira a few days ago(?) did in fact function because i know that tumblr can be weird sometimes]

Excited to see more of the loopening! Ngl with the larger scope nine sols's world has it'd be interesting if you life is strange-d it and had options to focus on certain AREAS in certain parts of the loops(that is if the whole of kunlun isn't alr frozen at the point they are working thru)

And yeah ths asks sent but I can't think of responses for them other than just agreeing (I may make a tag for just soft posting asks w/o full answers at this point)

Isabeau maintains that fact that he is trans, so he would have it, but probably of a flavor more isat than nine sols.

Claude would definitely do transmutation leaning to the nine sols side, both as carry over from Jiequan and also because everything we know about Claude suggests that she would dive in headfirst. That actually is probably a significant design detail for Claude.

Euphrasie may also do it to an extent somewhere between the two, to carry over from Goumang and a nod to her being a follower of change.

Personally, I don’t view Odile as having done body craft on herself, i see the scenario as her more having looked into the situation and supporting the underground body craft rather than benefiting from it herself. So she probably wouldn’t have that going on.

Depending on how significant wish craft is, there could also be something there with the king and/or loop, but I’m not sure

and tangentially related, I think for simplicity’s sake the districts that each sol has should be maintained to the roles the isat characters are assigned without swapping them around.

Today I have: the various cats that I think the isat characters are! some of these are house cat variations while others are other felines

Siffrin - Rusty-spotted cat: the smallest species of cat! they are also very good hunters. siffrin's fur would be mostly white but have a little bit of the rusty color for little markings, and then possibly incorporate him dying hair into them dyeing his fur

Isabeau - Maine Coon: largest breed of housecat (tied with savannah) it fits isa because he is physically big and also a big softie. for color im thinking slightly darker and redder than kuafu, with a slight tabby pattern

Euphrasie - Snow Leopard: i chose this after mirabelle, to have a vague connection. most of the reasoning is because of the light coloring and because i wanted both her and the king to be big cats because theyre both sort of intimidating in the context of the loops. coloring would be snow leopard, but slightly lighter white, and she would be very floofy

Odile - Sphynx: they can give really judgmental looks. i love your design a lot, but i think her face and ears could be slightly more sphynx. i think the darker variation of sphynx coloration or the eigong gray you gave her both work well

Claude - Tortoiseshell: they arent scientifically wilder than other colors of cats, but i have a tortie and she is so smart and so insane and i love her (her name is onyx). i don't know what shape claude would be though

Mirabelle - Pallas's cat/Manul: very floof, mirabelle is very floof. also, the body is round. coloring close to the manul but a little darker, a brownish gray

Bonnie and Nille - Fishing cat and Serval: they live by the coast, so fishing cat, and then i want their designs to be decently distinct, serval is mixed in. more serval in nille and more fishing cat in bonnie. i think their patterning being similar to the two cats, but with inverse coloring would work well

Loop: combine siffrin's solarian form, some of loop's star form, and then a just little bit of medieval cat painting. i like it when loop also gets a happy ending, so they also get a post-canon form that looks more like siffrin

The King - Lion: pretty basic. big cat, intimidating, and long mane that can become overgrown and long to make the design more the king. his fur would be in the area of white lions because those are actual things (lions with leuchism) and thats very cool even if they arent as white as the kings hair in isat.

so there are my kitty ideas! i want to express that simultaneously there is no pressure to do any more art for this but also that if you choose to do more my brain would once again explode with happy

also its not a big enough thought to be its own thing but fusang merges so well with the favor tree its insane

CATS! KITTYS EVEN! these choices are super interesting- love how diverse the selection is too it's not just housecats. Super onboard with the uncanny cat painting loop like- ji already has some odd stuff going on with the Babyface and then GROWING LONGER LIMBS LIKE HELLO?! so embracing that uncannyness just feels so right.

One thing I want to bring up (and why it took so long for me to respond here) is transmutation, body craft and how they can be similar and so, so different here.

The two big "transmuters" are goumang (with her bird features) and jiequan (with his ... Everything) and their districts deal directly with it (the weird ass food and the dusk guardians)

However the two biggest dealers in "body craft" are isabeau and (possibly)odile. With how the positions are set it's not as if they couldn't have done some transmuting in the past but since it isn't their 'thing' I'm interested to see if you go anywhere with it.

I am very confused, I’m going to try one more time to send this ask because if these are sending and you just are choosing not to answer them then that would make my multiple sendings of it quite rude.

I’m merging only the normal tianhuo with the forgetting, and specifically the mutated version with the time freeze. Because the king did time freeze to save vaugarde from the island’s fate, and Eigong made the mutated tianhuo while trying to cure the regular version! (This also implies that the king caused the forgetting which is an idea I’m a fan of!)

Oooo I like ‘discerning’ a lot! I do think the form of the word should still be a noun rather than an adjective, so that would make it be ‘discernment’ I’m a fan! 1 tenet chosen, 9 remain!

discerning has the dual meaning of both the observation aspect which is very correct, and also a sort of pickiness, a sort of ‘better than everyone else’ mentality, which is not canon Odile at all, BUT is a new and interesting way to corrupt her morals. The idea of her integrating herself into higher society to try and accomplish her goal of finding more about herself, but slowly losing sight of that original goal!!!!!

I’ve been pondering on and off about what the tenets for nine stars should be and I’m not sure. The key thing is that they need to be traits that are good, but the characters embody them to an extent that it becomes negative. A quote from I think the pjo series is that the worst fatal flaws are the ones that are good in moderation.

like for Odile, since she’s the one getting attention currently, legacy might technically fit her, but she doesn’t take it to the same extreme as yanlao does, she searches for it but she doesn’t obsess over it. She embodies it in moderation.

I’m not sure the exact singular ideal that odile’s seal would correspond to, but I think it should be something drawing from the realm of sus quest. She theoretically is doing something good by investigating, but the focus she had on it, the way she goes about it, ends up hurting siffrin. I believe one of her lines goes something like: “when I notice something, I can’t help but give my full attention to it.”

A good replacement word would be smth like 'discerning ' which is about good judgement. or observant which explains itself and is also used to describe her in the quest itself. I'm sure there are some other fun similies out there (and words in other languages that explain the concepts more succinctly) but I don't have the brain juices for that rn

The kitties!!! They are here! And they are fighting! I like the sketches a lot as initial ideas for a bunch of the designs. I also quite enjoy the alternate character assignments, as it is my opinion that AUs of AUs and so on are very good for fandom!

Nine stars is the name of my au, putting the In Stars and Time cast into Nine Sols. Mine is the inverse of @rubrumacai who has In Sols and Time, putting the Nine Sols cast into In Stars and Time.

Hello tumblr user o-ni-o-n may I introduce you to the aus me and my friend @rubrumacai have created?
