My tired, unwilling hero that I love, Isala Revassan Lavellan. Her nickname from Varric is "lioness" as Inquisitor. She has a thing for furs and her approach at the beginning was to let everyone else seem in charge while in the background she was doing the lion's share of the work. (pun intended lol)
Quick!! Reblog this with a picture of your Inquisitor and the nickname Varric gives them! (I'm honestly so curious!!)
#dragon age#dragon age inquisition#dai#isala revassan lavellan#isala lavellan#Her companion nickname is “snowflake”#because she's primarily an ice mage and at the end of battle she's always covered in snowflakes + seems to melt when it gets too hot

find a word: glow/glowing/glowed
I have two docs where Glow, Glowing, and Glowed shows up. One WIP has all three so I’mma share all of them.
Glow
WIP 1
Throwing open the doors, she crosses the room with quick strides. Strides that come to a halt halfway across the study. Dark splotches stain the rugs at the foot of the next set of doors. Doors that were ajar, the emerald glow of the Amber Room’s veilfire flickers through the slim opening.
Ashara’s nose wrinkles at the mixed odor of wet furs, rusting metals, and brackish mud clinging to the faint odor of sweat stained leather. A malodorous odor carried by the lazy summer breeze as it smothers the soft scent of ink and parchment. Ashara glances towards the balcony, the large windowed doors stretched open.
WIP 2
Their attention locked on the Avvaran Shaman who sat at the head of the fire. Tall flames licked the air, the smoky haze altering his painted features. His eyes shone like glass with a heated glow, blown wide as his gaze flickered across his audience.
“This hold has a warning we used to tell to all our new hunters and tradesmen we welcomed. A warning from when we had neighbors so fierce not even three tribes united in battle could contend with their might.”
The Shaman locked eyes with her in that moment. Holding her gaze as his voice dropped into a chilling rumble, voice echoing as if it were three.
Glowing & Glowed
WIP 2
The words left a chill in her.
“There are spirits who still speak of them; the fierce warriors who were once our neighbors. A clan of crimson crested elves, with eyes that glowed of moonlight with honeyed tongues.”
Isala is aware of the eyes turning to her, looking her over with speculation as she settles between Bull and Varric with her meal. She was unsurprised that the shaman knew of her clan, that Stonebear hold held history with her clan. Her clan had once called the mountains home.
It had however, caught her off guard, to find others still alive who knew of her birthclan. Being thrown off balance was not something she was used to anymore, not with the constant battle, Red Templars, Venatori, and demons cropping up at random when she turned a corner. She had come to expect even the most absurd things. Just not this.
“Their might cowed many Avvar, their hold on these mountains as tight and strong as a glacier in the deepest of winters.”The air shimmers as the shaman waves his hand above the fire, embers hang suspended in the air before swirling and changing into an icey blue. Forming an eerie illustration from the glowing specs. “When they first arrived they were of no consequence to our hold. A small group of hot blooded young warriors. We saw them as the young fools they were, ones who were exiled from their clan in the lowlands. We did not expect them to last even half a winter here.”
The glowing picture swirls, changing into a tall peaks then an unsettling forest with a haze hugging the trees.
“They settled in the higher peaks, peaks that the spirits had warned us from. We assumed their death would come in days, that they’re corpses would be consumed by the twisted forest. We did not know the woman who led them was a warrior to be feared. The master of blade both spirit and metal.”

What I’m Working On...
Tagged by @vir-ghilani if she says everyone bet your buttons I’m hitching my wagon to it
Rules: List all the things you’re currently working on in as much or little detail as you’d like, then tag some friends to see what they’re working on. This can be writing, art, vids, gifsets, whatever…
Art
So I have a couple projects outside of my school work that I’ve been working on. Mostly Dragon Age and Mass Effect stuff because I’m a nerd and I hyper fixate on things. I’m actually working on finishing these up so I can focus on more original stuff. But I will be making the shift no matter what after this summer. So some of my top projects are:
“Var Lath Vir Suledin” - It's a Solavellan piece that is sort of coming out of the thumbnail phase and moving toward lineart and color planning.
“Elven Antics” - A comic I’ve been stuck on since some time last year, it keeps getting pushed to the side for school work and because it's the most demanding thing when it comes to my hands. I mean backgrounds, Orlesian fashion, armor, so many characters, and nugs. Since its been a project of long standing its evolved into being more detailed than I originally planned. Hopefully I can work on this with more focus during my break that is coming up.
“Red Lioness” - It's a portrait piece for Isala. Its another side project that’s been sitting in the queue. It’s still in the planning phase, outfits, style, and research has stalled this. It’s my sort of experimental piece that is moving slowly but I’m okay with that.
“Boys In Blue” - It’s a piece that I want to use as the banner for my Mass Effect blog. It’s Garrus and Jaal in a sort of Noir Detective AU. I’m focusing on sort of monochromatic color scheme for this, blues, the only other color would be Jaal in his purple beauty.
Creature Concept art for a project I’m doing with some friends.
“Fallen Daugher” - My original story and comic, I’m finishing up some character designs and the script. This is a project that I have a long history with and I’m trying to shake off the desire for utter perfection and just really get it rolling now that the story is more solidified.
Writing
“The Chronicles of Inquisitor Lavellan” (COIL) - It’s Isala’s story that’s come to a complete standstill and been on a prolonged hiatus due to school and my art projects.
“Fistcourse” - Another writing project that got put on hold. This one was inspired by @vir-ghilani and I’m horrified how long it's been since I started it and it fell into hiatus. I’ve started on it again and now I’m fixing a few things before I continue onto the next chapter.
“Swans of Thedas” - This is a project that I’m drooling over doing and hasn’t escaped the draft phase mostly because of all the projects above and school. I don’t really want to sink my teeth into it quite yet until I’m further into COIL and have checked off more of these projects but I go to it every now and again when I send things to betas, or am taking a break from drawing for my hands.
My clan metas for Revassan, Shalelan, and Lavellan - these are personal things. Mostly for exploring the two clans I made for Isala’s story. They’re two wholly different clans with different morals, ideology, and inclusion in the Dalish community. I’m almost done with these because I have most of Revassan’s written back from my winter break but am polishing it up before posting it in one master post.
I give myself a large project list and sleep when I pass out. I’m happy this way. Though sometimes it feels like I get inspired to add another thing so my idea notebook/sticky note corner is constantly being added too. But that’s okay. As long as I finish things.
tagging @mishikaiya @nicoledraws and anyone else who wants to do this
#long post#i question why I decided i was happy this way#but i am#now I just need to finish things#long list of things i want to do#so little time#i get annoyed that i have other things to do like eat or sleep#wip list#I'm actually taking a break from writing and baking dinner right now

Gotta know more about Clan Revassan Meta.
So that is one of the "as said on the tin" and it is meta of my main Inquisitor Lavellan, Isala's, birth clan.
The lore I have for them, in a tldr overview, is that they formed after a young group of warriors and a couple mages split off from their original clan due to philosophical differences. Their original clan, Clan Galifalon, was more pacifist than this particular group wanted. So, they split off to become their own clan and eventually carved out their own settlement in the Frostbacks. They are happy and thriving for a time, but as magic wanes in the clan and times get hard they venture into the low lands. Unfortunately, it is at the same time as the Fifth Blight.
It is kind of funny, I recently learned the basic structure of how Clan Ravassan ends up in the Bercillian Forest is similar to the Clan Sabrea. Who, Marethari, took the clan into the lowlands after a group of Avvar attacked the clan. Killing Marethari's husband and the previous Keeper; who we know to be Mahariel's father. This is mentioned in World of Thedas Vol. 2 and yeah, it kind of contradicts what is told in dao. But I kind of like it because it makes the scenario I had a little more plausible and I like being within the realm of plausability.
But, overall, I put the clan together as a way to explore the idea of isolationist clans, how their closed practices would affect Isala, as well as sort of tackle some darker themes I like exploring in my writing. They carry a lot of dark themes in their overall history as I write out my long fic, very different in comparison to my stuff for my other oc Clan Shalelan and my headcanons for Clan Lavellan.
I have their 150 clan members all named, laid out their history from 2:20 Glory to 9:31 Dragon. I've also laid out their relationships to others, their differing cultural practices and beliefs, as well as general bios of each character in case I want to use them for something or build another character from them.
As of right now I have the entire clan save for Isala killed in a darkspawn raid. But I'm editing and reworking parts so I might change it. They do narratively have a purpose as to why they don't survive, but I've been musing about it in terms of how to give them more... I don't have the word for it at the moment, sorry. ;A;

"Six Sentence Sunday"
I was tagged by @ripflemeth
If anyone else wants to do this, please tag me so I can see. Most of the writers I know aren't too involved in tumblr anymore and I do like these memes to see what people are working on (and who doesn't mind being tagged).
Her tone brings a strained chuckle from Varric, glancing down she saw the concern and tightness in his shoulders. His body seems to grow heavy as that concern becomes tinged with a deep sadness. His words from Haven came rushing back, causing her to clench her jaw at the phantom words. ‘I’ve written enough tragedies to recognize where this is going...Heroes are everywhere. I’ve seen that. But a whole in the sky? That’s beyond heroes. We’re going to need a miracle.’ Miracles came at a price, that is what she thought when Varric had first said those words and the way he was looking at her now brings the thought rushing back to her mind. If she was lucky, she wouldn’t have to worry about the price of healing the sky would demand. But somewhere deep inside, she knew it would be a heavy one no matter the outcome.
Is it more than six? Yes. Am I ignoring the three sentences of the Varric quote and calling this six? Yes.

Codex Entry: Avvar Warning - Silent Woods
Up until the later years of their decline the Avvar avidly avoided hunting or stepping foot in the Revassan’s territory, speaking tales of their fierce skills in combat and their terrifying mages. A warning often spoke over fire, a warning to young hunters and traders, later making its way to the bards of the lowlands. These tales and the warning were renewed with vigor after Inquisitor Lavellan earned her legend-mark.
“Be wary of the silent woods,
of hazy fog and siren’s song.
Listen not to their honeyed tongues.
Be leery of the trees for they have eyes.
Their moonlit gaze, you should heed.
Watch for red death caps bloom.
They track the hunter, stalk the thieves.
For the foolish, who heed no caution,
crimson seals their fate.
Their Gods are with them,
huntress Andruil, vengeful Elgar’nan.
Be wary of the hazy fog.
Shun their siren song.
Pay them heed or you’ll be done.
Fangs of steel, touch of winter.
Be wary of the death caps and sirens’ song.
Their gods are with them, while yours are gone.”

#1 & 4 for solas and vivienne!
Solas:
1. Did your Inquisitor engage Solas academically with questions or were they uninterested in his experiences?
Isala was constantly peppering Solas with academic questions. While she prefered to talk theories and explore venues of magic with Dorian or Vivienne, she would come to him for talks about the fade, spirits, and his opinions on magical matters they had encountered. She would always come to see him while he painted, asking him to recount a venture through the fade or anything interesting he had seen in their travels. It was part of her rounds when she had a moment, and something she continued even after she ended things with him.
4. Did your Inquisitor think of Solas as Fen’harel or did they continue to think of him as their companion, a friend, if he was one to them, even after discovering who he was?
She had mixed feelings about Solas after her discovery of his identity. She referred to him as Solas to dignitaries and the Council when she spoke of him, recounted the events through the eluvians in order to make them see sense and abandon their crusade to control her organization. Which didn’t work, but she still tried nonetheless. He became Fen’harel to her agents, in her reports, and in strategic meetings. But personally he was Solas, a friend, companion up until she woke up from the dream where she saw him watching. That was when her feelings were solidified and his name was a filthy curse, Fen’Harel, The Betrayer, The Fool.
Vivienne:
1. Did your Inquisitor share Vivienne’s views on the circle of magi or disagree and why?
Isala neither completely agreed nor disagreed with Vivienne’s views on the circle. Like mages, not all Templars were wrong, she knew this. Just as she knew not all circles abused the mages within. So she wouldn’t use that as a platform for either side of the argument.
She didn’t disagree because it obviously was an enviroment that she had thrived in. It was a situation that made her into the fearsome woman she was. She was also not the former circle mage who shared the view. She had spoken to a few mages, even Arl Edmon’s son Connor, who spoke well of the circle and how they wished to return. There were plenty of mages who saw value, safety, and comfort in the circles.
She didn’t agree with it because it wasn’t a choice. They were ripped from their families and sent there. They were stripped of any rights they may have claimed once discovered they were a mage. This is something that left a sour taste in her mouth, reminded her too much of what Clan Revassan did to their own mages. She also would not ignore the evils done to the mages by the Templar Order and the Chantry. The wrongs that were overlooked, the gross generalized vilification of mages within their ranks.
4. Was Vivienne ever considered a candidate for Divine by your Inquisitor? Why was, or why wasn’t, she made Divine by your Inquisitor?
She wasn’t. Isala felt her views and stances on magic were too extreme. That while she and her held civil disagreements due to mutual respect that was earned, she knew that luxury would not be afforded to others. There would be a swift and brutal end to any who opposed her ideals, one spun elegantly through the weave of The Game. One that would be favored by both the public and the loyalist. Even if Vivienne did it for the good of the mages, even if she reigned in the Templars and handled a great many issues well. Isala couldn’t consider her as a candidate, no, to Isala she failed the mages once, she wouldn’t do it again.

It’s NaNoWriMo!
And imma be writing Dragon Age Meta and headcanons all month.
For the first week I got my Clan Meta planned, Revassan and Shalelan. So y’all finally get that nugget. I’m also going to answer all those asks that have been hanging around in my inbox. (I’m so sorry it’s taking so long.)
Next on the agenda (week 2 and maybe 3) is my Inquisition headcanons. Skyhold’s layout, Inquisition time frame, what I pictured for the customization, costumes and clothing as well.
Then for week 4 I’m thinking of doing Isala and Iron Bull/Isala (Bullala) headcanons. Cause you all deserve the fluff! All the fluff. And art. Costumes and such.
And in case I get ahead of schedule, I will also work on my COIL fic and really get that fanfic going.
So if any of this sounds particularly unappealing or if you just art into my headcanons and what not feel free to blacklist my tag #nanowrimosketchz.
If you want me to go into anything particular feel free to send me an ask!
#nanowrimo news#nanowrimo#nanowrimo 2017#nanowrimosketchz#dragon age nanowrimo#not dragon age specific#sketchz speaks. sketchz lives.#I wrote this last night and instead of queueing it like I thought I saved it to my drafts cause I’m a loser
