(2) what sort of things does your muse look for in a partner? AND (3) what sort of things does your muse AVOID in a partner? 

I’m gonna break this down into one and one for each of them.

REYNOLD

Looks for = Ambition. It doesn’t have to be a larger than life purpose, but seeing the drive to move forward is something he finds attractive. 

Avoids = Insincerity with the self. For Reynold there’s no moving forward if two people cannot recognize what they want for themselves respectively. Being honest with the self, to him, inevitably leads to being honest with a partner. Even a recognition of not knowing what you want is something he wants if the person is truly honest about being at this point in their life. 

ZORAIDA

Looks for = Challenge. This largely makes it so Zoraida is attracted to people like her because the clash is fun but is also attracted to opposites because not fully understanding someone’s motives, actions and ideals is a challenge. Even when it tests her patience. This is why she can be found in relationships with people who are more measured 

Avoids = Indecisiveness. Whether bold or thought out or even half-cocked, a choice always has to be made first. Zoraida doesn’t do well with people who waffle in what they do or even waffle in what they say. To her words are action because emotion fuels both. She rarely asks people what choice they’ll make more than once. 

ISAIAS

Looks for = Dreamers. In whatever form they come, but always with the sense that they can develop a vision for a tomorrow that is different than today. Isaias holds a hope for his future that is better than today and he finds it attractive when people maintain that for themselves as well.

Avoids = Imposing / Dominating personalities. In the sense of attempting to supplant one’s choices, or even pace of life, with their own. He is naturally inclined to avoid conflict so this leads him to drop people who are unable to live and let live. 

ESPERANZA

Looks for = Boldness. Particularly in facing her and people who assert themselves when they need to. Esper rarely keeps her mouth shut on things and she doesn’t often feel well with people who tend to keep quiet rather than assert themselves. Being challenged is not personal for her. It’s a meeting of passions, and that can ignite a lot of things.

Avoids = Habituality. Life has so much left it in to do that she hates routine, which is something she’ll find herself battling daily with the way life goes. Esper doesn’t do well with people who settle into a routine and refuse to stray from it, even for the sake of experiencing a small difference for once. 

ALLISON

Looks for = Open affection. I find something key in how I choose to characterize Allison is that she’s more reserved as she’s older but she enjoys receiving and returning affection without vagueness or disguising. However that form takes for the person. It’s a marker of clear desire and intention, and to do it openly means the person is vulnerable with her in a way she can return.

Avoids = Underestimation. Particularly in front of others. Allison recognizes what it means to be a competent leader and is also highly wary of being underestimated by having her opinions or actions challenged in certain context; for example, in meetings that require her to seem imposing, diplomatic or even terrifying. This might stem from a flaw in pride.

THE HOLY GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST, ACCORDING TO ST. LUKE, FROM THE LATIN VULGATE BIBLE

Chapter 4 - Part 1

PREFACE.

St. Luke was a physician, a native of Antioch, the metropolis of Syria, and well skilled in the Greek language. In some ancient manuscripts, he is called Lucius, and Lucanus. Some conjecture that he was at first a Gentile and a pagan, and was converted by the preaching of St. Paul, at Antioch; others, that he was originally a Jew, and one of the seventy-two disciples. Sts. Hippolitus and Epiphanius say, that hearing from our Lord these words, he that eateth not my flesh, and drinketh not my blood, is not worthy of me, he withdrew, and quitted our Saviour, but returned to the faith at the preaching of St. Paul. But, to leave what is uncertain, St. Luke was the disciple, travelling companion, and fellow-labourer of St. Paul. Of him St. Paul is supposed to speak: (2 Corinthians viii. 18.) We have sent also with him (Titus) the brother, whose praise is in the gospel, through all churches: and again, Luke, the most dear physician, saluteth you: (Colossians iv.) and, only Luke is with me. (2 Timothy iv.) Some are of opinion that as often as St. Paul, in his Epistles, says according to my gospel, he speaks of the Gospel of St. Luke. This evangelist did not learn his gospel from St. Paul only, (who had never been with our Lord in the flesh) but from the other apostles also, as himself informs us in the beginning of his gospel, when he says, according as they have delivered them unto us; who, from the beginning, were eye-witnesses, (Greek: autoptai) and ministers of the word. His gospel, therefore, he wrote as he heard it; but the Acts of the Apostles, from his own observations; and both, as some believe, about the same time in which his history of the Acts finishes, towards the year of Christ 63. But the received opinion now is, that St. Luke wrote his gospel in Achaia, in the year 53, ten years previously to his writing of the Acts, purposely to counteract the fabulous relations concerning Jesus Christ, which several persons had endeavoured to palm upon the world.

There is a plenary indulgence attached to those who study scripture for at least a half-hour per day under the usual conditions.

Chapter 4 - Part 1

Christ's fasting, and temptation. He is persecuted in Nazareth: his miracles in Capharnaum.

1 And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost, returned from the Jordan: and was led by the spirit into the desert,

2 For the space of forty days, and was tempted by the devil. And he ate nothing in those days: and when they were ended he was hungry.

Ver. 2. In collating the present narrative with that of St. Matthew it appears that Jesus Christ was not tempted till the expiration of forty days. (Bible de Vence) --- Many reasons may be assigned why Christ permitted himself to be tempted. 1st. To merit for man the grace of overcoming temptations. 2d. To encourage us under temptations. 3d. To teach us not to be cast down with temptations, however grievous they may be, since even Jesus Christ submitted to them. 4thly. To point out to us the manner in which we ought to behave in time of temptation. (Dionysius)

3 And the devil said to him: If thou be the Son of God, command this stone that it be made bread.

Ver. 3. The tempter here appears to endeavour to discover by stratagem whether Christ was the Son of God. He does not say, if thou be the Son of God, "pray" that these stones be made bread, which he might have said to any man; but "command," effect by thine own authority, that this come to pass. If Christ had done this, the tempter would have instantly concluded, that Jesus Christ was the Son of God, since only God could effect such a miracle. (Dionysius)

4 And Jesus answered him: It is written: That man liveth not by bread alone, but by every word of God.

Ver. 10. We have the devil here again citing Scripture, (Psalm xc. ver. 11.) (Read what is given on this subject in note on ver. 6, chap. iv. of St. Matthew's gospel) which shews how very dangerous a thing it is to put the Scripture, in the first instance, indiscriminately into every, even the most illiterate person's hands, without any previous disposition of the mind and heart, by study and prayer. How much more satisfactory must it be to be guided by the Church of God, which Christ has promised to secure against all error, and which he commands all to obey! How much more rational to begin with distributing elementary catechisms, approved by the Catholic Church as conformable to the word of God, and then only opening to them the sacred mystic book, when their minds and hearts are better prepared to avail themselves of the inestimable treasure, and of justly appreciating and exploring the golden lore. If humility be a virtue that renders us most pleasing to God, it is a virtue particularly necessary for the proper understanding of Holy Writ. This will teach us to submit (whenever the Scripture is either silent or obscure in points of faith) our own private and unassisted judgment to the judgment and comments of the Church. This was the sentiment of a great philosopher of this nation, who, when charged with scepticism and a love of novelty by his contemporaries, replied: "However fanciful I may be esteemed in matters of philosophy, in religious concerns I like to go the beaten road. Where the Scripture is silent, the Church is my text. Where that speaks, it is but the comment; and I never refer any thing to the arbitration of my own judgment, but in the silence of them both."

11 And that in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest perhaps thou dash thy foot against a stone.

Knowing, therefore, the trick and design of our infernal enemy, how much does it behove us to be on our guard; and having overcome in one temptation, prepare ourselves for another; never resting in the presumptuous thought, that we are sufficiently strong in virtue to resist the enemy, without fresh preparation. (Dionysius) --- This history of the various temptations to which our Saviour subjects himself, as related by St. Luke, is exactly the same as that given by St. Matthew with this only difference, that the order in which the temptations took place is not the same in both evangelists: but it does not matter what order is observed, where all the circumstances are related. (Witham) --- Some are of opinion that the Jews of Nazareth, having heard of the miracles and fame of Jesus, and that he was accustomed to teach in the synagogues, though he had never been instructed in any learning, when he rose to speak, purposely gave him the book of Isaias, which was esteemed the most difficult to be explained, in order to try his learning; though it is probable that it was done by the all-directing interposition of Divine Providence. 18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me: wherefore he hath anointed me, to preach the gospel to the poor he hath sent me, to heal the contrite of heart,

Ver. 18. By the poor are to be understood the Gentiles; who might truly be called poor, since they possessed neither the knowledge of the true God, nor of the law, nor of the prophets. (Origen) --- Isaias in this place speaks of himself, as a figure of the Messias. The captivity of Babylon, which is the literal object of this prophecy, was a figure of the then state of mankind; the return from this captivity announced by the prophet, and effected by Cyrus, represented the redemption of man, effected by Jesus Christ. 19 To preach deliverance to the captives, and sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, to preach the acceptable year of the Lord, and the day of reward.

Ver. 19. To set at liberty them that are bruised, or oppressed. These words are not in the prophet; but are added by St. Luke, to explain the others. --- To preach the acceptable year, as it were the jubilee year, when slaves used to be set at liberty. (Witham)

Lips pressed to a microphone’s windscreen — words trawling through cords and cables to be blared out by speakers all around the stage. Voice calling at the heart of the crowd deeper than the chords that send their pulses rising quick.  That is the way to feed for him. There are scholars among his kind who learn of the world around them and entice intellectuals to lend rapt attention. There are preachers among his kind who wrap themselves in the veil of the holy and demand the presence of the faithful. There are therapists and psychologists, teachers and politicians, medics and coaches ... a smattering of those whose voices are used to feast on the emotions of the mortals around them. ... and in all his years, he’s still unsure of where he belongs among them. FOCUS ;; in terms of people: audiences and crowds. isaias’s focus is based on the spectrum of emotion elicited by music. tending bar is important to him because it allows a low-level and consistent feeding that lasts for several days after. the occasional concert or open-venue event allows him to be sated for weeks. 

MAIN VERSE TERMINOLOGY

Sirens are not made the same, and do not come from the main lore or legends. What follows here is largely applicable to the Acostas and their associated families, and will be amended with additional notes on other known sirens.

BLOODLINES ;; sirens need not be full-blooded or have parentage that are both full sirens to inherit their need and skill at feeding. although it may vary by family, it is generally assured that the child of a pair will inherit the need if one parent is a full-blooded siren and especially through matrilineal lineages. children of these pairs may have a chance at developing a reduced heritage which also manifests as lower skills at feeding. due to the unknown nature of inheritance regarding the need, there have been family members twice or more members removed from a siren family that create siren children. many families have found success in tracing female descendancy for these children to verify the closest siren family the inheritance may have come from.

FEEDING ;; sirens depend on both consumption of food to sustain their bodies along with consumption of emotion to sustain their souls. this is done through the use of their voices to target, coax and augment certain emotions from non-sirens. sirens cannot generally feed on each other as well as they can with humans. other supernatural creatures are hit or miss and are largely targeted depending on whether they to have a soul. an unfed or starved siren may drive their next target into a state of decompensation whether by inducing dissociation, a comatose status or,  in extreme cases, temporary insanity.

FOCUS ;; sirens tend to maintain concentration, or even a sense of taste and preference, for particular emotions or people. none in the acosta lineage truly know how the preference is determined or whether it can be changed. several theories stipulate a siren may feed on emotions they wish to reflect, on people they wish to emulate, or even on emotions they wish to extract and consume, thus eliminating, from the world around them. sirens need not feed solely on their specific focus as any emotional outburst that is strong enough will do.

FAMILIES - ACOSTA LINE ;; sirens within the acostas familial line are, within their own spoken traditions, very distanced from the original sirens that resided along mexico’s pacific coast. they know at least that their line extends as far back, with other names, to five hundred years or so. family members have been known to live upwards of one hundred & fifty years although this has dropped down to ninety in recent generations. the need to feed largely depends on factors such as parents’ descendancy (see Bloodlines) . this extends to those who have married into other families, usually mixing with humans, such as the freemans, da silvas and ortizs. the acostas are known to be storytellers and musicians, with a large swath of the family becoming history or language professors and trained instrumentalists.

Anya VS Isaia (19)

Isaia’s animal form is NOT a lioness, and she can get panic attacks without having to change into her other form.

Isa is much more vulgar than Anya.

They are both hella gay, but Anya is less shy around women than Isa. 

When separated from her siblings Anya was willing to let others look for them while she rested. Isaia would never agree to that.

Isaia does not own any kind of jewelry. 

The shy beanstalk cries a lot. Like daily. 

The only time we see Anya fight is when a lioness, but Isaia can actually fend for herself very well with knives. 

Sinbad VS Terren (23)

Terren is a black stallion, not golden.

Sinbad is very temperamental, sassy and rude, while Terren is none of these things (usually at least). Instead he is much more quiet, stoic, and most of all tired.

Terren has chronic back pain which affects his day-to-day life, while Sinbad has no medical issues to speak of.

Sinbad is much more ambitious with his dreams for the future (house, servants, fancy clothes, etc). Terren just wants a simple and calm life where he doesn’t have to worry about survival.

While Sinbad would hesitate to take a life no matter what, Terren would kill as many people as needed in order to save his family.

Compared to Sinbad, Terren has two piercings and could imagine getting even more.

In the crossover Sinbad carries a sword (which he never uses, LOL), but Terren has no weapons and relies only on his raw strength in combat.

Jim VS Frey (15)

Jim is a cis boy, Frey is an intersex girl. 

Frey is a brown wolf, not grey.

Just like Jim, Frey gets into a lot of trouble all the damn time, but Frey is much more willing to draw blood when fighting back.

Poor little Frey is littered with scars and missing body parts due to her rough childhood. 

Jim forgives easily, but if you betray Frey’s trust even once you will have to fight tooth and nail to get her back.

Frey is in wolf form much more often than Jim. 

Her siblings hate it, but Frey sometimes steals stuff, something that Jim just doesn’t do.

In part 6 we see Jim cry when reunited with Anya, but that would NOT make Frey shed tears. It’s not because she cannot emote, but more because she just haaates everything that comes with crying and avoids it with all her might. So far I know of only 3 things that will make her sob.

Charming VS Jeremiah (21)

If Charming has a C+ when it comes to directions and not getting lost, Jeremiah has a E-.

Jeremiah is fluent in several languages, including sign.

Charming was a really mean drunk, but Jer was waaaay worse. But he wont touch alcohol now, so at least that’s good.

Jeremiah is vegetarian, but even if he hates the taste of fish and insects he can still force himself to eat them, either in order to survive or just to be polite.

Charming is pretty well built, but mah canon boy is soft soft soft!

In the crossover version people’s clothes magically vanish during a form change, but in canon they are not affected. So when Jeremiah meets the trio for the first time wearing only his cape, that is ALL he has on.

2. A day when he was 11, sick in bed, struggling to even breath. But his mother and sisters spent the whole day with him by his side. Built a fort around his bed, ate all meals in the room, and spent the whole day reading books and playing games.

Sorry if you’ve already been asked this, but what’s Frey’s sexuality? Is she a lesbian, bi, straight?? Or is she still figuring it out herself??

Oh man… Terren and Isaia are so easy when it comes to this while Frey has been such a hard nut to crack, but I think I finally got it.Through-out her teens Frey is Questioning her orientation, but as an adult she will start identifying as a Grey A. This means that she can feel romanic and sexual attraction, but it’s very very very rarely. And compared to somebody who’s Demi this attraction does not require a deep emotional bond first.

So far, out of a 40+ member cast and 15+ AUs, Frey has show an interest in only two people, a man and a woman (Sebastian and Charlie) so it completely depends on the universe if she sees herself as straight, gay or bi. She’s also downright repulsed by the idea of romantic/sexual intimacy with anybody else who isn’t one of her few chosen ones. Imagine it like this: If you had a thick fashion magazine and went through every single model, Terren (bi) and Isaia (gay) would find a whole plethora of models they find “hot”. Meanwhile Frey would show an interest in maybe one person or nobody at all.

Hi! I've been following you for a while and enjoy every work that you've done so far! (Especially To Belong 👌) I have a couple questions about your To Belong Children (including the overall lore) First off, How did you decide what animals each character changes into? Is it based on personalities? And also, How old are the main cast when they changed into their respective animal forms? I hope these aren't too overwhelming for you, I just enjoy the shapeshifting aspect And I love your work!

Even though their personalities do fit their animal forms, they weren’t the main reasoning for them. Terren is a horse simply because I loved the idea of him being able to give rides to his siblings (but then I went and gave him chronic back pain sooo…). Frey is a wolf mostly just because I really really like wolves. XD

Isaia on the other hand has been tricky. In the very first draft of the story she was a dog, but after started working on the crossovers version I didn’t like that idea anymore so I saved her animal reveal to later. When I then developed her backstory more I decided to go with a lioness for the crossover, but I knew that it wasn't canon for the original version. I am now 80% sure what her official animal form is, but that will remain a secret. ;)PS: Jeremiah is a stag 100% because of The Great Prince. Terren was around 3 when he had his first change. Frey was like barely 1, so super young. Isaia had her first human transformation at around 1.5-2.
