5 Reasons to Attend AAU
Choosing the right college can be stressful enough, especially when trying to decide which art school to attend. With a high volume of art schools to choose from, it can be tough to narrow down which one best fits your needs and wants. For me, it was quite simple once I discovered the Academy of Art, a school started by artist for artist, Academy of Art is one of the top rated art schools in the country and has been since first opened in 1929. Up next are five reasons why I choose AAU as the art school for me.

Location
Located in a hub of artistic growth and a community of techies, Academy of Art proudly calls San Francisco home. Centered in the heart of SF, the campus is laid out in an urban setting with over 50 buildings scattered around downtown. While also having state of the art facilities, every academic building is stocked with the latest equipment for each majors needs. The location was a massive selling point in choosing AAU for my school of choice.

Majors
As far as art schools go, Academy of Art has one of the most niche selections of majors to choose from in your respective field. With over 30 majors within 22 departments, there is a wide array of majors to study that are offered both on campus and online. Specifically for me, it is the only school in the country to offer a styling major as a BFA. Having the specialized major I want to study in was another push that lead to my attendance at AAU.

Faculty
Each teacher that is hired by AAU are working artists themselves in their field, allowing them to teach the most relevant and need-to-know information to students. Focused on giving back, professores at AAU offer up their tricks and trades of their industry, as well as their networks, to students in order to help students succeed in the classroom and in the workfield. Class sizes at AAU tend to be no larger that 25 students at a time allowing for growth between student and teacher relationships.

Networking
One of the many benefits of attending AAU is the opportunity to make connections with other students through their respective departments, as well as with their teachers and alumnis. AAU also offers a number of clubs and organizations that brings like-minds together. Focused on preparing all students for their careers after AAU, each major hones in on their networking community that helps better students portfolios and contact list for future jobs and internships.

Cost
Art schools, in general, are notoriously known for not being cheap, being some of the more expensive colleges to attend. The average cost of art school comes out to around $42,000 a year, a price that the average American would not be able to afford. Comparatively looking at the tuition cost for AAU, it is only $20,040, over half the cost of other art universities. For a hands on learning experience with professionals still in their field, AAU offers much more at an affordable rate.
