Fenris and Anders dynamic is best when it's not taken too seriously. It wasn't thought through well at all (something the devs have admitted to) and so building it into an all defining characterization for either of them engenders mischaracterizations. In my headcanon Fenris and Anders use each other as a whipping post to lance their wounds and it's something they'll eventually grow past. I personally like how honest they are with each other sometimes, neither feel like they need to sand down their edges with the other and it can lead to these hauntingly sincere moments.

A romantic relationship between them during DA2's timeline, though, has only two extremes from my interpretation. I could see them sleeping together with no forethought, a release of tension (as Fenris does do with a rival mage Hawke), and then that spiralling into a very tumultuous romance. If I'm remembering right these are characters who say things like 'there's no place you could go where I wouldn't follow' and 'I'll drown the world in blood to keep you safe'. All that intensity turned on each other... They're two sides of the same coin and both sides are blinkered and passionate. At their best they'd join forces and work through their issues to become this badass force of nature with a singular purpose— tearing down systems of oppression together. At their worst they could destroy Thedas and each other. I can appreciate how epic that potential story would be but I can also understand wanting both characters to find more peace than they're likely to find in each other.

No, my DA2 enemies-to-lovers ship is Aveline and Isabela. It wouldn't work and it's not epic but it is hot.

A Few Christmas Madrigal HCs

Isabela sprouts mistletoe and leaves it in random, hidden areas of Casita. (All the couples try to find them all before the night ends.)

Julieta and Antonio are an unexpected cooking team, with the former suggesting animal-friendly meals while the latter taste-tests.

Luisa and Agustín each perform a little holiday-esque piano for the Casita and everyone inside.

Sometimes when the house becomes too crowded with too much noise, Felix and Mariano perform a private music show to help Dolores safely listen to music.

The Evolution of Isabela’s Outfits

Ya know what? Since DA2 is being told to Cassandra by Varric, it is entirely possible that Varric and Hawke did get together, but in order to keep Hawke safe, Varric lied and said they were in a relationship with someone else so Cassandra wouldn't ask him why he doesn't know where they are if they're partners

Bianca (the woman) is a person who had a profound effect on Varric's life and someone he cares a lot about but shes just an ex

Bianca (the crossbow) has been in his life for such a long time that changing her name or getting rid of her is unthinkable

He gets Isabela to write friend-fiction for him so he has a story to tell Cassandra about Hawke's love life

If you romance and save Anders, you can headcanon that Hawke still liberates circles with Anders, so pairing them up with him in a fake relationship is a perfect cover

The way Varric talks about Anders, he's probably jealous that he gets to see Hawke more often

He and Hawke debate if they want to make their relationship public once Hawke comes to the Inquisition but decide against it, mostly because they enjoy sneaking around and teasing each other

I'm not coping for not being able to romance Varric I swear

madrigal kids sleepover hcs! because I’m bored and need doodle ideas!

- isabelas room is usually the designated sleepover spot

- luisa brings the most blankets pillows stuffies and makes a fort

- the grandkids would sit in a circle and dolores gets them to play 2 truths and a lie

- she also would gossip just a little bit!

- isa would want to do face masks and styling hair! luisa is always first in line (she gets sister privileges)

- camilo would let the girls use him as a canvas for makeup looks

- if it’s silent for too long mirabel would start a pillow fight out of nowhere

- antonio is surprisingly good at shadow puppets

- dolores makes the best hot chocolate so therefore everyone wants her to make a cup for them!

- would you rather always ends in some kind of argument

- whoever falls asleep first is victim to marker on their face in the morning (usually mirabel)

- antonio would say let’s have a dance party! and boom spontaneous dance party

- camilo would sneak snacks when nobody is looking

- card games end with isa silently pissed and glaring at whoever points out the fact she’s pissed

- matching pjs are a must

- mira reads antonio bedtime stories

- luisa gets really into karaoke

- antonio has too many candies and he’s hyper

- someone would want to try vine swinging with isa (usually they suck)

- when the younger ones are asleep dolores will bring out the wine she somehow managed to hide from the kids

- tipsy heart to hearts that end in sobbing “i love you guys so much” 😭😭

- mirabel yaps in her sleep and it’s always amusing for the others since she always falls asleep first

- camilo would randomly yell “IS ANYONE AWAKE” in the dark

- he gets a pillow to the face by luisa

- isa and dolores have had a bet since childhood on who can stay awake the longest

- luisa hogs the blankets in the night and it is quite literally impossible to get back

- mirabel wakes up first and has to get everyone else up and yes she will use a song

- they throw pillows at her it’s too early for this

It's midnight, and there's an elusive mosquito flying around my room preventing me from sleeping, so here are some cooking headcanons for the Madrigals:

Alma: She can cook well but tends to stick to the same meals all the time. She doesn't try many new things in the kitchen and is wary of new food items.

Félix: He is a grilling master. Give him an open fire to cook over, and he can make anything taste great.

Julieta: She had an interest in cooking from a young age, and her gift solidified her place in the kitchen. She can make anything, and everything she makes is perfectly seasoned. She likes to experiment - her siblings or Agustín and Félix are always the taste testers.

Pepa: She never had an interest in cooking, so she tends to burn things when she gets bored and distracted. She makes the best coffee, though.

Agustín: He's a clumsy disaster with everything he does (except being a dad) and that doesn't change in the kitchen. If he cooks, he ends up injured, something is set on fire or broken, and the food ends up ruined somehow. He still likes to be there as moral support while Julieta is cooking though, and serves as a taste tester when required.

Bruno: He's a mediocre cook and everything he makes isn't bad, but he does tend to undercook things because he's anxious about burning it, opens the oven too often to check on stuff, or flips things so much that they end up breaking apart.

Isabela: She likes to study herbs and other edible plants in order to improve them, but would rather have other people cook with them. She would much rather spend her time growing the food and working in a garden than cooking with it. She makes the best tea, though, and loves experimenting with tea mixes.

Dolores: She doesn't have much of an interest in cooking, but does like to make soup. The quiet bubbling sound that the boiling soup stock makes is soothing and drowns out some of the other noises her ears are constantly picking up. It's a long and quiet process that she enjoys.

Luisa: She loves to bake. Bread, cookies, cakes, and other desserts are her favourite things to make. She will often ask Isabela for herbs to experiment with in her loaves of bread.

Camilo: He likes to cook and is good at it. At a young age, he was interested in cooking and often followed Julieta around or watched baking rise in the oven. People usually thought he was after food because of his appetite, but he enjoys the process of transforming ingredients into a delicious dish. Bruno joked about switching his sisters' babies without them knowing once and got a hot arepa thrown at his head.

Mirabel: She's not quite as clumsy as her father in the kitchen, but she tends to avoid cooking. If she can help the cook with anything, she'll jump right in and try her best, though! She does like to make pies. Her favourite part is making designs to decorate the top of the pie. The kitchen usually ends up very messy when she's in there, but she doesn't mind cleaning up after herself.

Antonio: He's especially interested in helping decorate cakes or pies and making fun cookie shapes. He isn't as interested in cooking as Camilo was at his age, though. Guaranteed to have some animal fur get into the food, pet fur is inevitable after all.

I just have a very cursed image in my brain because ok imagine its the end of veilguard and they've just saved the world. I, personally, am incapable of having Lucanis lock Illario up for various reasons but thats another post. So at the epilogue party (that we should have FUCKING gotten bioware) everyone is dancing and having a good time and celebrating not dying in whatever building in Minrathous they could find that wasn't destroyed (I'm leaning toward it being Dorian's house for various reasons but idk how I'm gonna spin it that it didn't get demolished) and I was trying to find someone for Illario to dance with because I think it would be cute for him and Lucanis to just share a 'I'm glad you're not dead' look over their respective partners' shoulders and I was like hmmm out of everyone in the game who would have the least amount of scruples about dancing with someone who 1. Is a crow 2. Worked with the venatori 3. Sold his own cousin to said venatori 4. Faked his grandmother's death 5. Fumbled his entire super evil plan to become first talon... who would look at this morally bankrupt man and only be able to see 6'5" or whatever he is well-dressed (because you know he conjured up 5 new shirts for the occasion) well-groomed extremely handsome Antivan man who managed to get a cut on his face that rogueishly accentuates his eyebrow just so and the only answer that popped into my head was Isabela

it’s my own personal headcanon that bruno’s room used to be full of lush greenery and waterfalls but the angrier/sadder/more frustrated he got at himself and his powers, the more it started to die and once he left his room, intending never to return, everything dried up completely and turned to sand.

the shower of sand when mirabel first walks in? waterfall.

all of the walls surrounding the stairs leading to his vision cave? covered in ferns and flowers and vines and other native greenery.

i’d like to think that his room was his own personal oasis and that after the house gets rebuilt, his room returns to its former, healthy state.

Things I think have happened at the Hanged Man that I consider canon

Varric and Hawke have passed out drunk in the same bed and ended up spooning. They now regularly nap pile together

Fenris has carried each member of the party home at least Once. Isabela kept escaping his grasp and staggering towards danger

Merril has won multiple drinking contests. It’s like alcohol doesn’t affect her

Barkspawn regularly wanders over when the Hawke family aren’t home. He is always met with cheers and many pets. He’s like a bodega cat

Carver keeps making up card games, insists they’re real, and therefore wins every time. He’s almost been banned twice and killed seven times doing this. Hawke and Varric back him up for a share of the loot

Ponyboy Curtis is Mirabel Madrigal (the quirkyyyy one who thinks differently/is differently main character energy)

Sodapop Curtis is Isabel Madrigal (the pretty one who often gets seen as only beautiful/perfect and shallow because of it, but really do have a kind soul and are willing to sacrifice so much for their family)

Darry Curtis is Luisa Madrigal!!!!!! (The strong one, heavily depended on for physical/emotional labor, always stressed and worried about taking care of the family)

Two bit Mathews is Camilo Madrigal (the comedic character that drops hints of a deeper person/meaning but no one ever talks about it, also secretly tired of having to keep up the jokes all the time and never being trusted with anything serious)

Johnny Cade is Antonio Madrigal (shyer more dependent character who is close to having a massive character change~ possibly coming of age)

Dallas Winston is Bruno Madrigal (I see the connection here not in personality but how people act about these types of characters- abandoned, taboo characters who get shoved away, deemed as wicked)

Steve Randle is Delores Madrigal (often ignored but actually carries a big part in the plot which is never discussed- this character has a lot connections and uses them, also worth noting that Delores kinda treats Mirabel like Steve treats Pony with the innocent seeming snarky remarks, if you don’t understand I am referring to “Oh, she didn’t get one” when talking about gifts which was absolutely unnecessary)

-not to mention the “big family” trope in both of them

-and they both have trio siblingsss

-both have similar tropes of “adults not understanding” and abuse in families

-not to mention the outsiders is a musical and so is encanto

-also like some of the Songs are sooooo coded for certain outsiders characters

-imma do a list of that tbh

“The Family Madrigal” ~Ponyboy Curtis coded, he would introduce the gang like this
