Michael: Maybe it was all planned this way… that this is how we'd find out who we really are… by connecting with humans. Isabel: Connecting? Michael: The more they connect, the more we find out.

— And just like that, Michael gives the answer to the meaning of life. Of course, it works both ways. The more the aliens connect to the humans, the more the humans find out about themselves.

Max: Uh, listen… Liz is on her way over. Isabel: Ok. We'll leave. Max: You guys don't have to leave.

— Given what happened right after, of course they had to leave! But, I'm curious, what was Max's original plan?

Max: The problem is treating someone I care about like a thing… to be used. Michael: What, and that's what I'm about? Is that what you're saying?

— It's strange that Michael gets all triggered by this, and yet, we all know (Max included) that he'd never treat Maria that way.

— How is Chaka Khan supposed to be romantic?! Real question. This would've been the perfect time to put the Marvin Gaye reference in, yet, for some reason, it never happens… What a lost opportunity.

Liz: And now everyone's just sort of cheering you on like at a football game.

— As much as Max tries to deny it, that's exactly what they were doing. Admittedly, there is this notion that the people you love are not a means to an end, and this episode does a good job in maintaining the balance between that idea and teenage hormones clouding everybody's judgement.

Liz: Max… Do you understand any of this? Max: No… Liz: Can you take your shirt off? Max: Can I?! Yeah…

— For someone who doesn't want to go there, she's going there. 🔥

— When Liz tries to replicate what Max did to her, you can hear the frustration in her voice and yet, Max assuring her that he's 'glowing everywhere' is the sweetest comeback ever!

— This rambled exchange just proves that it's reason vs. passion and reason is losing by the second. It gets to a point where Liz is not listening to her own words, which is not a problem because, when Max says 'you're right', I am pretty sure he didn't hear anything she said either. 🔥

— At this point, Max and Liz can claim that they're only doing this because he needs to find out where it came from, but… we all know better. 🔥🔥🔥

— Even without the benefit of knowing what happened in three seasons, I'm willing to bet that if it hadn't been for Maria showing up, they would've gone all the way.

Maria: Oh my God! I was looking for Michael. Um, something tells me he isn't here.

— Maria is always funny, even when she's mortified of walking in on her best friend making out with this guy, 🤣

Alex: You know, I'm… I'm available for further experiments. You know. Wh-whenever.

— Alex is so helpful, isn't he? 🤣

— Question: why didn't Nasedo engage Max right there? That would've been a good opportunity to get him alone and explain a few things to him. All this does is confuse the audience to the identity of that guy…

Maria: Look, I just really need you not to be cold or mean. If that's impossible, you can just let me know.

— Some people say this was unnecessary, but Maria has trouble communicating and she's sarcastic most of the time. She's still sarcastic here, but at least she's letting Michael know what she needs from him.

— I always loved this moment. It's a best payoff than that one scene in "285 South". A moment of real vulnerability and understanding. There's a purity about it that you can't get with alien flashes. Flashes are a great metaphor but this is the human aspect of it.

Jeff: They're basically good kids, right? They're just using bad judgment.

— Wow, Jeff was so liberal back in season 1, 😅 I'm looking at you season 3 Jeff. 🤣

Jeff: Well, why don't we give 'em a chance to explain themselves? Diane: Well, what kind of explanation can there possibly be?

— I really love Jeff here. Everyone else is just blowing it out of proportion, given that their kids are straight 'A' students! They're young and deeply in love with each other. I don't see a problem with it.

Liz: Max… everything that we did, everything we felt… was it… was it all just about this… this thing?

— Many people would say that “Sexual Healing” was a dead end of an episode. I have faith in Jen Oxenberg. I think she created an episode that actually links perfectly with the rest of the series. And no, I don't think the flashes were orb-induced. Nor was their passion.

Liz: Max, was it ever just about us? You and me?

— Yes! And I'm saying this fully pretending I don't know what happens in season 2 and 3. What happened in "Sexual Healing" is the direct result of feelings that were denied for far too long. When they are finally in sync with their emotions good things happen between them. That's what "Sexual Healing" was all about.

Max: I'm sure it doesn't compare to other things you could be doing, like watching Kyle barf after a beer blast.

— There's no way Max said that without knowing something… My gosh, did he see that flashes? Awkward, very awkward… 🥴

Liz: Ok. Fine. If you know so much, then tell me, Max… what's my destiny? Max: I only know the part I'm hoping for…

— Hopes, shmopes. I know about "Graduation". And I'm not gonna pretend I don't know that one because it's the only thing that brings me comfort! 😊

— Yes, Max and Liz are deeply in love with each other, and we just had the glory of that love for 40 straight minutes. Enjoy it, enjoy it! Parents will have to accept that. 💞
