Phagen/ Phagie

1.

Die Geschichte der Phagie ist eine Geschichte von Zeichen, denen passiert, was sie bezeichnen. Das ist eine Geschichte von Zeichen, die sich nicht erfolgreich von den Dingen, die sie bezeichnen, abgelöst haben. 'Distanzschaffen' und 'Verleibung' können dabei weiterhin und zusammen eine Rolle spielen. Insoweit ist es eine Geschichte von Zeichen, die auch Dinge sind und von Dingen, die auch Zeichen sind.

Den Wörtern und Bildern passiert in dieser Geschichte, wovon sie sprechen und was sie abbilden. Man findet Wörter, die gewählt werden, um etwas loszuwerden, dazu gehört sogar ein Teil des Wortes. Man macht aus einem ph ein v oder aus einem v ein f, aus einem w ein v oder ein f oder aus einem v ein w, aus einem a ein o oder aus seinem o ein a, aus einem e ein ue, aus einem v ein g, aus einem g ein k, aus einem k ein c, einem b ein p um ein Wort zu wählen, das etwas von sich losgeworden ist. Die Geschichte ist mimologisch exzessiv, mal springt etwas vom Buchstaben zum Laut über, mal vom Laut in die Semantik, dann von dort wieder in die Buchstaben. Kaum ist irgendwo eine Verbindung unterbrochen, wächst zwischen anderen Stellen wieder eine. Irgendwann spricht man dann zwischen Elberfeld und Erfurt das Wörtchen Verkehr wie Phagär aus und es wächst mal wieder zusammen, was zusammen gehört.

φαγεῖν, ein griechisches Wort, markiert schon keinen Ursprung in dieser Geschichte. Man sagt, dass auch dieses Wort ein anderes Wort abbildet und sich zu ihm wie eine Kontrafaktur verhält. Die griechische Sprache hätte schon einen semantic shift vollzogen, als sie diese Wörtchen wählte, um vom essen (besser: fressen/ verschlingen) zu sprechen. Man spricht auch von einer Teilung, die wendig oder sogar verschwendet/verschwenderisch ist. Diese Teilung bleibt ungestillt, auch weil man mit ihr nicht los wird, was man gibt und nicht zu fassen bekommt, was man erhält. Man könnte von einer 'überbordenen Teilung' sprechen, die mit einem Austauschmanöver einhergeht.

Die lateinischen Wörter (vagatio, vagabundus, vagor, vagus, vagulus) etc.) sollen die griechischen Wörter losgeworden sein und irgendwann soll es so gekommen sein, dass auch eine Woge nichts mehr mit einer Waage, Vogue nicht mit Vague, nichts mit Wagen, nichts mit Wage, nichts mit vage und nichts mehr mit Phagen und Phagie zu tun hat. Auch Verzehren und Verkehren, Begehren und Bekehren sollen nichts mit Vagheit, Abwägung oder Wagnissen zu tun haben.

Die Klassifikationen in den Wörterbüchern markieren immer wieder deutliche Verwechslungssorgen. Die Grimms weisen sogar deutlich darauf hin, dass man das Wort kehren nicht mit dem Wort kehren verwechseln dürfe und dass sie zwei unterschiedliche Ursprünge hätten. In dem Eintrag zum fagieren zitieren sie zwar aus Johannes Geils Predigten, erklären aber nicht den Sinn, sondern verweisen nur auf den Lautwechsel zwischen einem v zu f. Geil verwendet das Wort synonym zu 'kehren', aber phagein, vagor oder vagus tauchen für die Grimms nicht als Ursprünge für die beiden Wörter kehren/kehren auf.

kehren , vertere, wenden, in ursprung und wesen verschieden vom vorigen kehren, mundartlich auch noch in der aussprache, z. b. schwäb. kehren verrere, aber kähren vertere/ mhd. kêren, ahd. chêran, eigentlich aber chêrian, daher als übergangsform auch chêrran (gramm. 12, 123. 874, wie cherran aus cherian verrere), zuweilen cheiran Graff 4, 466 ff. Schm. 2, 322; alts. kêrian, kêrôn, altfr. kêra, nrh. keiren (sp. 411), mnl. keren, nnl. keeren, nd. keren, ags. aber cerran, cirran, cyrran, altengl. cayre, cherre, charre, engl. dial. chare, to return, turn back, stop

Die 'drohende Verwandtschaft' setzt sich auch zum zehren und zum gehren und weiter zum Verzehren, Verkehren, Begehren, Bekehren fort, aber die Sorge der Grimms ist darauf gerichtet, die Zeichen festzustellen. Die Geschichte der Zeichen bleibt polarisiert, bis in die Schrift, in die Laute und die Semantik hinein schwankt etwas. In der Adressierung versuchen die Grimms diese Polarisierung aufzulösen. Man trägt die Wörter an Stellen ein, die auseinanderliegen.

Das ist eine verschlungene Geschichte, ein Geschichte, das hier und da zusammenbricht.
