Been catching back up to Blue Exorcist recently and I forgot how much I love Shima?? Which is surprising because I usually despise the stereotypical “pervert” but Shima is just so darn interesting. Kate’s 300 followers challenge

300 followers; this calls for a celebration! And how better to celebrate this SPN blog that is about fanfiction and fanart, than to host a challenge!

The Theme:

The Unofficial Soundtrack of Supernatural

So many songs remind me of Supernatural and fit their amazing journey perfectly, but where never used on the show. That’s why I build a list of a 100 of my favorite songs that instantly make me think of the beautiful characters of this series.

The Challenge:

Pick a song from the list and take out either a line, a verse or use the entire song for your fanfiction or fanart. Write, paint, draw or edit the song into the story that you are telling.

The Rules:

Both written art and graphic art can participate, as long as it’s Supernatural related. Poems, fanfiction, drawings, graphics, video, you name it. The creator is completely free to choose. You are allowed to pick more than one song, too!

No Wincest. No Smut!Weechester. Not that I am against anyone writing it, but I would like to read and review every entry, and I don’t read this type of ships because they are not my thing. Other ships like Saileen, Destiel, Deanna, Megstiel, Reader x ... etc. are fine. 

You can create fluff, angst, smut, reader insert, OFC. Knock yourself out. Do remember to list trigger warnings at the top of your post.

For the writers: there is no minimum or maximum to words. When your story is over 500 words, remember to use the ‘Keep reading’ option.

Post 00042: Blade of the Immortal Failed to Deliver by usotaku

When ever the announcement comes that an anime or manga series is getting a live action adaptation, most fans will visibly cringe at the prospect because every time it happens its nothing but a train wreck. Blade of the Immortal was no exception despite being a film that should have actually worked. I mean it all the right ingredients as far as a bloody revenge story based in Edo period Japan, swords, no real supernatural powers, highly skilled samurai warriors chopping each other to bits and entirely Japanese cast. So where in the world did this film go so wrong that it ended up being nothing more than a pale imitation of the source material?

After defying and killing his superior Manj becomes a fugitive determined to live and atone for the pain he brought the wife of one his victims. In an encounter with a large group of bon tie hunters he is nearly slain in his attempt to avenger her death at their hands but is instead revived and made immortal. 50 years later he takes on the job of protecting and helping young Run seek vengeance for her slain parents against an remerging and brutal sword school. Will this be the fight the ends his existence or will he continue his long life bearing the sins of his past?

With a story like that it should have been fairly easy to create a well put together film and then add Takashi Miike as the director and it should be something special. Unfortunately even with a big name director it managed to fall short. Despite a very large allowance for translation error in the copy that I watched there was just to much lack of continuity to even create an story that could stand on its own. While the writers did give some nods to the manga it was mostly a hack job of trying to take a 55 gallon drum and condense it in to a 1 gallon bucket. There just isn’t time to do the story its full justice in the manner they approached it. 

Rather than showing how Rin and Manji’s relation ship progressed they give you a quick snap shot and tell you that at some point Manji begins caring about her despite their relatively small amount of personal interaction. Even when Manki is poisoned the only motivation illustrated for his continued struggle is his desire to atone for his his past. Of course the end of the story is about his eventual redemption in his own eyes but the film lacks so much depth you hardly see how that begins to happen. 

Despite my issues with the story I didn't totally dislike the film and while the action pacing was a bit to brisk jumping from one fight to the next the fights were believable and lacked a lot of the flashy fight choreography that you see in so many martial arts films. Which gave it a very strong since of realism depute the major battle scenes where you see 1 man against 100′s and still winning. As a stand alone film I would give it 2 out of five stars but as an adaptation I can’t give it more than 1 out of five for its total disregard of the story, symbolism and its lightning fast pace. 

If you were considering seeing this film I would defiantly tell you don’t waste your time. While it may have much higher reviews on other sites as a fan of the series I just can’t recommend it.
