A word from Rella concerning AI, binding and selling fics, and Book 3 of Rávamë's Bane

Hey folks,

I’m treating this post as a bit of a blanket PSA for all those who read my work and follow me here, but I’ll also be copying the message over to AO3 once Book 3 of Rávamë's Bane goes up. Before anyone gets spooked, all is well, I am well, and I’m still happily working on the first 5 chapters of Amabilis Insania. However there are a few glaring subjects that have sprung up in the fandom space that I can’t really ignore. The fanfic community as a whole has changed a lot in the past decade I've been part of it, and given some of the unpleasant stuff I’ve seen going on in just the past year, I wanted to cover some housekeeping points ahead of posting the next RB book.

1.) Please don’t ever bind and sell fanfics.  Profiting from fanfiction in any way is completely illegal, and puts the entire community at risk.  I’m lucky enough that I’m a relatively small fish in the fanfic pond, so no one has sold bound copies of my story specifically (that I know of). However, I know several folks who have had their work bound and sold without their knowledge, and have had to take their fics down completely to stop it happening (which royally sucks). If you see any fanfics being sold on sites like Etsy, please do report them — they are absolutely not supposed to be there. And if you want a bound copy of a fic for personal use, I'd really encourage you to learn to bind them yourself. There's a tonne of tutorials out there, it’s pretty fun and easy to learn (I picked it up in a couple of weeks) and it doesn’t take as many materials as you’d imagine. Side note: I have made typesets of LM and CM for myself and friends, but honestly, I’m reluctant to share them publicly now given all the above. That said, if you really want a copy of LM or CM for personal use only, you can message me directly on Tumblr and I can maybe look into making a watermarked version to share on request.

2.) In light of the recent news that AO3 was scraped to create a generative AI dataset, I’ve decided I’ll only be posting the final RB book to AO3 from now on. On top of that, all my fics will be restricted to users with AO3 accounts only. I really don’t want to do this as it cuts off guest users from enjoying the story too, but for now it’s the only way to protect my work from being scrapped again. I don’t believe this will be a one-time occurrence given how carelessly AI is being used right now, and I feel very strongly that no one’s work should be used in model training without their consent.

The vast majority of you in my comments, asks and kudos are genuinely wonderful, and I’m so damned grateful that you aren’t a part of the issues above. However, with all that in mind, let me be absolutely clear just for the public record…

!!TRLD: This Is The Important Bit!! You do not, and will never have my consent to: - use any of my writing in generative AI (this includes making AI-generated fanworks, or scraping my fics for training AI models) - bind and sell any of my fanfics (profiting from fanfiction is completely illegal, and puts it at risk for us all)  - profit in any way from any of my work that I have publicly shared online (this includes putting my fics on recommendation lists behind paywalls, or selling my fics in the form of typesets or bound copies)

If you do any variation of the above despite knowing the risk it poses to the entire fanfic community, I respectfully hope you spend the rest of your life in clothes that smell damp no matter how much you run them through the dryer.

To the rest of you; a genuine thank you for making the community what it is. And thank you for making the RB comments section specifically such a joyful place to be.

“To beg for your forgiveness I hope.”

“No, he’s—” Louis stops, unsure how to phrase it. “He’s pregnant. And I’m the father.”

Or, a one-night stand of Louis' that he never thought he'd see again shows up at his door six months later.

"Why would we do that?" Harry says and sounds really dismayed at the idea. Louis doesn't understand.

or Louis thinks Harry has a lover and he's willing to let's Harry go to be happy with someone else even if it hurts the three of them.

OR: A couple months before playing in his first long-awaited World Cup, Louis finds out he’s pregnant. Harry’s there for the ride.

Of course they could. He practically lived at the diner. The entire place reeked of it.

1) How many works do you have on AO3? 85.

2) What’s your total AO3 word count? 791,018 words.

3) What are your top 5 fics by kudos? Hmm, with smut or without? Actually, they are a mix (by kudos).

Dark like the North Blue Sea (aka The Sea-Hill you Die On) (350 kudos), Bioluminescent Hearts (323 kudos), Repossession (mind the tags!) 253 kudos, The sellout (mind the tags!) 237 kudos, the slut's dilemma 220 kudos (really, really, really, really mind the tags, please). I want to put a shout out for number 7: softening the fall of snow with 197 kudos. If I hadn't taken some of my fics off anon, that would be in the top 5.

4) What fandoms do you write for?

Only One Piece.

5) Do you respond to comments? Why or why not? Yes! Because I'm so grateful, and it can lead to friendships!

6) What’s the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

Haha, all of them, but they're angsty and then happy (except for the Hurt, NO comfort fics). Maybe softening the fall of snow. But it's still upbeat in its own way. Defects (Marco is immortal, his partners are not)

7) What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? Except for the Hurt no Comfort fics, I try to have a form of positive resolution. Maybe Repossession, or Bioluminescent Hearts, or screen / shiki-e. Doctor Death (Doula), despite its premise (actually, because of it). Overlooked and Underpaid is funny, I think, and Sea Hill too. Ooh, I love the ending of Welding (KidLaw)

8) Do you get hate on fics?

I have once or twice, but they were pretty confronting fics. However, they were tagged.

9) Do you write smut? I used to. Not so much any more, or when my mind leads me into darker recesses smut with a capital Dead Dove. However, I have written healthier smut, but yeah, not for a while.

10) Do you write crossovers?

I don't think so. Sometimes some kind of famous fictional world might fit a premise. For example, Taxi  is inspired by Jim Jarmusch's "Night on Earth", but it's not a crossover.

11) Have you ever had a fic stolen?

No. I thought a fic had a very similar premise, but what in fanfic doesn't? I asked the writer directly and although our fics had similar premises, mine did not inspire theirs.

12) Have you ever had a fic translated?

Yes! I've been super lucky to have two of my fics translated into Vietnamese (maybe 3). screen / shiki-e by Dea_Fi screen / shiki-e (my original)

14) What’s your all-time favorite ship? close tie between LawBin and LawZo, I used to write MarLaw, and I'm still fond. I like SmoLaw and KidLawKid. LawSan's great too, but I haven't written them yet. I like Ray and Shakky, Aladine and Praline, Big Mom and Kaidou. Dunno, most ships are fine with me.

15) What’s the WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

The last entry for the rare pair month from a few years ago (MarLaw. I have the idea).

16) What are your writing strengths?

I get the job done. Maybe keeping track of an idea.

17) What are your writing weaknesses?

Verbose, even with so few words.

18) Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in a fic?

I'm guessing this is the honorifics argument. Guess it depends how close you feel to the source material, and what the writer is trying to convey and why.

19) First fandom you wrote for?

One Piece. However, my sister and I did a word for word blow by blow rewrite of the Three Little Pigs when we were little.

20) Favorite fic you’ve ever written?

Maybe I'll do my favourite of last year spilling into this. Decomposers (LawZo), Welding (KidLaw), water fills the shape of the holder  (law/guilt), and it's actually pulled from a much older and longer piece, but Brontë's Ring (mind the tags). I think my all-time recent fave is still in zine jail.

older ones in big fandoms. I killed a clown. AMA! & no sense of living without aim (IT Movies); some new beginning & good old-fashioned lover boy (Good Omens); Once More, with Feeling (Ted Lasso) <- ok this one is from last year and the fandom isn't that huge, I just got lucky with post timing.

do you respond to comments? why or why not?

I DO I love comments!! I think people taking some time to let you know they liked something is amazing. I want to reply to that and also feed more comments

what's the fic you've written with the angstiest ending?

Considering I have written character death a few times... I think my angstiest fic is probably my Ted Lasso big bang entry, one more time around, not so much because of the ending but because of the emotional beats. what's the fic you've written with the happiest ending?

OHHHH. Good question. I'm not a pure fluff person but I like happy endings. Probably my some of my "fix it" stuff, like well I rose, and I rose (Captive Prince, Theomedes lives); and (I think) the kids are in trouble (IT movies)

do you write crossovers?

Not often, I feel like it requires a lot of skill to make work. I've written two short crossovers I really like: The Art of Survival (ASOIAF & The Inheritance Cycle) and my body on the waves (The Old Guard & Pirates of the Caribbean)

have you ever received hate on a fic?

Throwback to the time I got twitter cancelled for writing age difference selfcest and someone left me this fuckass essay after they attacked me somewhere more public (cringe) and I said I would respond to concrit if they had it. I will always think with pride about the line "Another positive is to recognize that you are indeed a good writer. That's partly a negative because without that I probably would not have read on. Morbid curiosity can only take you so far and it's easier to dismiss something that's been poorly written." <- thank u hater <3

do you write smut? if so, what kind?

I write lots of emotionally horny smut that often doubles as character study (not only bc I have literary ambitions in my smut just because I think it's hot). I only rate a fic E when the smut is detailed enough that I think "somebody could potentially get off reading this". Otherwise it's M.

have you ever had a fic stolen?

Nope! Many of my fics were written as exchange gifts to somebody else so I hope it never happens.

have you ever had a fic translated?

yessssss <3 I have a blanket permission to translate / remix / podfic so knock yourself out

have you ever co-written a fic before?

Not YET but I workshop so many fic ideas with friends. One day maybe.

what's your all-time favorite ship?

Honestly, probably Vegeta/Bulma from DBZ. My het ship blueprint.

what's a wip that you want to finish but don't think you ever will?

Some of my old Captive Prince drafts, probably. And no sense of living without aim, my IT Eddie/Richie fic... I got so much fandom drama that year that I could never finish the last chapter. But my heart didn't want to put it on this list so maybe there's hope yet.

what are your writing strengths?

I think I'm very good at setting up emotional beats and making character voices feel distinct, both dialogue and POV

what are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

I think it's cool if it's used in a way where it enriches the story. The reader should be able to understand what it means from context, without needing an in-text translation, and if you're using a limited POV the character should be able to understand at least some words in the language <- those are pet peeves of mine

what was the first fandom you wrote for?

First fic I ever wrote was Eragon (Paolini) when I was in middle school to show to my friend. First fic I ever posted was also Eragon on FFN. First fic I posted on AO3 I believe was ASOIAF or maybe the Vampire Diaries.

what's a fandom/ship you haven't written for yet but want to?

Probably i guess this is the end. It takes place during jjk 0 from Gojo’s pov when he murks his bf and it’s basically just angst without happy ending.

The vast majority of my fics have happy endings, but I’d say it’s probably my Christmas bkak fic kiss me once, then kiss me twice, then kiss me once again simply because there’s basically no angst whereas my other fics all have some kind of angst in them somewhere.

I don’t, but that’s just a preference of mine.

Have you ever received hate on a fic?

I’ve been very lucky to have received only kindness! The worst thing I’ve read on one of my fics was that the angst was resolved too quickly but they still enjoyed it lol.

Yes lol. The horny kind.

I have not, but it sounds fun! I’d just be worried that our characterizations and writing styles would clash.

Probably kyoru from Fruits Basket. They mean everything to me.

What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?

I have an old bokuaka draft of them having a contentious meet cute at a corner store that I’d love to get back to one day, but I don’t really have much content in mind for it so idk if that will ever happen.

What are your writing strengths?

Characterization and dialogue, I’d say! I’ve been told I’m really good at staying consistent with characterization and that my dialogue sounds natural and flows really well.

What are your writing weaknesses?

I overexplain or overstate things. I try to really make sure some things are clear and in doing that I dumb down my writing :P fortunately my wonderful beta reader helps to keep me aware of that!

What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in a fic?

Yeah sure why not? I’m only fluent in English, but I don’t mind when another language is used, Google exists for a reason and typically the author will give the translation in the notes.

What’s a fandom/ship you haven’t written for yet but want to?

ARCANE. I DESPERATELY WANT TO WRITE AN ARCANE JAYVIK FIC. I have two ideas in mind: a deeper, more emotional and soft fic before s2 when they’re just partners and another one where they fuck in front of the Hexgate in s2 lol.

What’s your favorite fic you’ve written?

A real sophie’s choice. It’s a battle between my iwaoi fic you’ll always know me which I hold extremely close to my heart but I cringe at many of the decisions I made looking back (still love it though) and my jjk post canon fic things i would miss from the other side. I think the latter one is some of my best writing!

aw man, probably alone time, right? probably alone time. i'm sure there was some extremely angsty stuff in my kingdom hearts days, but lord help me i am old and i have forgotten a lot of that

well, the durellion affair ends with everyone getting to eat as much cheese as they want, so i think that fits the bill!!! 🧀

nah. i've been crazy lucky that, aside from the occasional (and likely unintentional) insensitive comment, people have always been super kind with my stuff <3 the deviantart days were a slightly different story, but why relive THAT time period, i ask you?????

nope. i'm not, like, opposed, i just don't think it would be good, and i've yet to write something where i felt it would add anything, so. nah. there are so many other things i can do to earn that m rating ;)

10. Craziest crossover?

for sure did an organization xiii/sweeney todd crossover once, in the long-long ago asldkjflsakdjf recently, though, i guess i'd have to say reading & other fun rituals was a VERY self-indulgent way for me to smash the remedyverse and supermassive universes together!!!

eh, every time one of those "this site is scraping people's fics!" posts goes around, i end up finding my stuff, but in terms of bumping into an individual nabbing something i've written? not that i'm aware of! (i like to believe anyone reading would recognize the overabundance of adjectives and come tell me, ha!!!)

i've had people ask, but i've never seen a finished product, so probably not! i tend to write pretty long stuff, though, and i wouldn't wish that kind of work on anyone alsdkjflaskdjfksljfd

i have! none that are posted currently, but i've for sure co-written in the past. i'm also slowly but surely co-writing a fun little thing over here with my buds where our (totally cool and DEFINITELY not overpowered) self-inserts have fun being npcs in the federal bureau of control, so...keep your eyes peeled for that, heheheheh

sigh. soft reset 😔 it's a big ol' silent hill 2 timeloop fic that i started back in 2015 i think, and as much as i WANT to finish it...i haven't felt the silent hill muse strike in a hot minute. maybe once the remake comes out.

oh, i like to flatter myself that i'm pretty solid when it comes to character voices/interactions 😉 it's why i do so many character studies, honestly - i just *clenches fist* love studying characters!!! i also think my dialogue's fun

how much time do you HAVE??? hehehe i feel like i flounder when it comes to straight up-and-down fluffy/shippy stuff, like if the focus of a story is, for example, some sort of romantic gesture, i'm fairly lost. i'm also HORRENDOUS when it comes to keeping things concise, and god help me, every time i have to delete a passage and kill my darlings, i am miserable, so i tend to just...not do that

also? just putting it out there because i do consider it a weakness in regards to writing: sometimes my self-esteem with posting stuff is just. MISERABLE. so i have a tendency to get anxious before, during, and after hitting the post button, just really wallowing in those good, good I'M A FRAUD feelings, lmfao. i'm working on it, though!!! i love writing so much, sometimes the irrational part of my brain just worries i'm not Doing It Right, hahahaha

I try to!! I do like the conversation in comments, especially for stuff like gen fic, where the fic is very much me probing at / having a conversation with canon. that being said the longer something's been up, the less I remember on what I wrote lmao.

What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

I tend to stick with bittersweet but for some on the bitter end, its time turned fragile (major character death), marionette (it is hurt no comfort but only because it's a prequel), and monster in the mirror (the only genuinely hopeless ending).

What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

I had a lot of thoughts trying to classify something as a happy ending trying to answer this. genuinely have no solid answer for that. I think perhaps my cop out will be demon dog days because it ends at the start of one piece and what is happier than that

Do you get hate on fics?

there's been a couple of rude commenters from time to time who expected things to go in a different direction and adamantly told me about that direction, but nothing I'd consider hate

Do you write smut?

lol. yes. something turned on in my brain when I realized smut didn't have to be super romantic it can just be an excuse to write, essentially, a plotless fight scene with a lot of humor and a very simple conclusion. then i was sold. absolutely I can write smut.

only one I've written was turnabout heart, a persona/ace attorney crossover. normally not really my thing

I have a Reiju clone fic I keep not fully committing to (i.e. Germa clones the siblings, fic POV is from an unreliable reiju clone who thinks she's the real deal). typing it out I know exactly why I have not committed to this. it is scary and complicated and serious fics take me ages to write

im very dedicated to my post-death pact zoro time travels to pre-timeskip sanji fic no matter how long it's been in the oven. it will be wonderfully caramelized when it gets out im sure

hah, probably comedic timing, it's what I have the most fun with LOL.

What are your writing weaknesses?

my prose is very hit or miss-- sometimes waaay too utilitarian without much pizazz. even with boring prose I have to remind myself to cut down a lot of filler during editing. it still makes it in. oh the weeds i have in my garden.

Thoughts on writing dialog in another language for a fic?

not something I'd do without a beta who understood the language, and it hasn't been necessary for the canons I'm working with.

lmao, there are so many definitions of this. first on ao3 is attack on titan, first on the internet is harvest moon, and first in my journals as a young starry-eyed middle schooler is fire emblem

Monster in the Mirror as probably my favorite concept and execution in terms of efficiency, as well as playing with some story telling devices (flashbacks) I normally do not touch

Heavy Boots as the concept I've thought the most about and somehow executed

Double Overtime as again my longest fic to date and... again.... a really fun concept to execute

What are your writing weaknesses? i'm verbose but at the same time i skim on things. small things turn into big things and fics that can be under 5k turn into 10k, 'cause small, insignificant details and context in conversations are needed; but not descriptions. for the life of me i can't remember that people aren't in my head and they need to know who's talking and what the place they're in looks like.

Thoughts on dialogue in another language? i'm a sucker for it, but if they're written in a language i know i will be critic of the translation used - and if i know the author i will suggest a translation that in my opinion is better.

🌻what makes you want to give up on writing? what makes you keep going?

I really struggle with the enormity of writing. The fact that once you start something, you'll be compelled to finish it and finishing something takes time that is almost incomprehensible at the start. I think what keeps me going is that I like my stories very much and I would like to read the endings of them.

💎why is writing important to you?

I think I really like that even if someone doesn't know me, if they read something that I've written a very real part of me is incredibly stark to them. I also just love stories. I love telling a good story. I love the way that writing can connect and expand and deconstruct the people who read them. It also teaches me about myself all the time.

📡why is writing and sharing your writing important for fandom?

I think when you write something honest and authentic - it will lead you to like-minded people that will either share or expand your vision (and if you're lucky) you as a person. It's a good way to find people who see things in a similar or compatibly different way.

☯️how do you think engaging with each other through tumblr, twitter, comments, kudos, creates healthy fandom experiences? How do you deal with that if you're not a social person/experience social anxiety?

I do not think a healthy fandom experience exists. I think fandom, by nature is a very unhealthy thing lol but I think that interacting with what you like is important. It's s very easy to like things passively and not ever put language to why and how you enjoy something. If you engaging with a work you're asking yourself "what about this mattered to me?" and that answer is just as important to you as the person you're sharing it with.

🧿what steps do you take to not take things personally if a fic doesn't do well, or if your writing/posting/sharing experience isn't going how you'd like it to

I really only write for myself so I don't actually care if a fic does or doesn't do well. If I posted it, it's because it did well for me. One of my favorite pieces of posted work has barely 500 hits and I've re-read it over 20 times since I've posted it. It would be nice, of course, if more people enjoyed something I'm proud of but I try to provide enough internal motivation that audience reception is kind of a footnote compared to my own feelings about my work.

Also, I talked a lot about my posting experience in therapy lol it's hard to have an audience and I think lately I've tried to focus on the good parts so I don't get too embittered about the really fucking bad. I also delete way more comments/anons that piss me off. It's really not worth getting upset about, at the end of the day. Unless it is. And then I get really upset for fun and pleasure.

What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

I’m a firm believer on the happily ever after. Star Wars is a sad ending enough. So, I never write bad endings.

The only exception is “Not enough”. It ended with Obikin separated BUT I wrote a happy ending for them in a second part. People who like unhappy endings could just stay there, and people who like happy ending could go and finish their story. I wrote it in a very difficult moment. I was angry and I wanted to write something angsty. But then, I calmed and I give them their happy ending 🥰

What is the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Oh, gosh! All my fics have Happy Endings, so I can’t choose 🙈 but I can give you the fluffiest of them all: Here goes the baby.

Do you get hate on fics?

Never 🥰 my readers are lovely people. I’m so lucky with them.

I was worry to have hate when I began to write in the Obikin fandom, but, people have been just adorable.

Do you write smut?

I do not. But I love to put some little details, like a background character or something from other franchises in my fics for the readers to pick it up. It's funny.

Once, someone asked to make a translation, but as it was for another website than AO3 I wasn't sure, so I didn't consent. The person was respectful and didn't push 🥰

…. From another fandom in SW, from far away in time: “I turned and you were there...” And look! Anakin and Obi-Wan were already there with a huge role 🤣 I was already doomed

👉👈 my weird sense of humour 🙈🤡 I can’t be serious for two seconds, so I’m having fun writing my fics.

What are your writing weaknesses?

I’m not a Native English Speaker: grammar and spelling are my cross 🫠 before COVID I needed a translator for almost everything fic related, and I now I suppose to write for English people 😰 (press the panic button)

Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

Done! I love my Argentinian Anakin 🥰 (you can see him sing in Spanish here: “Once upon a dream”).

I speak 5 languages well (Spanish, French, Catalan, Italian, and English) and destroy one last (Dutch). In a galaxy full of sentiens from different cultures, I’m certain than Jedi can speak many languages (specially knowing that our Obi-Wan is one of the few humans that can speak Twi-Leki 🥰).

Caltrilla!! “On a dream”

I don't care what Respawn and EA think, Trilla survived and lives forever after happy with her Jedi 😤 (there a possibility of a threesome with a certain witch, I’m not picky)

I try to!! When someone is kind enough to leave a reaction, I should thank them at the very least! Excuse Number 1: I get overwhelmed easily. Excuse Number 2: Especially with long or thoughtful comments, when I answer those I feel like that's the end of that interaction and I don't want that to end

6.) What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

It's gotta be one of the Mood Color Panties that ended with an emotional cliffhanger...

7.) What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Uhhhhh in terms of happy ending to fic setting ratio? Probably the MCU/Snowpiercer crossover that ends somewhat like the movie wherein they discover that not everything on the outside world is dead and gone.

8.) Do you get hate on fics?

I have written smut. With BDSM and lingerie. But I don't feel the smut groove anymore. Once in a while I do like to dabble in erotica when drawing though

I've officially written one (1) crossover of MCU/Snowpiercer. Unofficially, I've chucked words at friends about The Covenant/Fantastic Four where Johnny Storm and Chase Collins are roommates for whatever reason and Chase is trying to close a portal to Hell and fighting off demons while Johnny is oblivious to it all until his Lucky Charms are gone.

Not that I'm aware of. Plenty of art got stolen though.

Yus! A smutty stucky one-shot got translated into Russian

Does The Unlucky Ones count??? I just wanted spoopy Cody but I can't not do backstory for AUs, so my mind is churning out the lore. Then @adiduck was like, “hey, I have some ideas for TUO, how about--“ and then I buried her in the sandbox. The only bits I wrote (with Adi's blessing) are the snippets on the artworks. She is writing the fic while we both excitedly yell at each other.

I don't have any fic WIPs atm

Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh quite a lot of people pointed out that my pacing is good, and some people like my humor! Thank you <3

I'm too rushed. And like, a whole lot of technical stuff I don't know.

I like it. It can add a lot of things to the characters, plot, or setting. What I personally don't like if the words in another language are in italics.

Weiß Kreuz. It's in German and the forum it was posted on is long gone. There's an FMA fic on ff.net still. You won't find that one either.

20.) Favorite fic you've ever written?

I Got My Head Checked :D It started as a naive "lolol what would I want Sithywan to look like? just the once", grew to "But listen, Glimmer, it would be so funny if Sithywan is like "I need a week" as his estimation for how long he needs for Cody to spill every secret ever to him, and it ends with Sithywan just getting up in the cell like he's never been injured/tortured at all and going like "Thank you, that's all I need" like some method acting Black Widow type, but internally starting his journey of “omfg I want him carnally and emotionally””, and then it spiraled into 75k words with more catharsis for me as a person than should be possible. And a greenhouse. More IGMHC trivia!!

Oban Ouaine, Qui-Gon's Cody's Venator, is Gaelic for little green bay. I wanted a connection of Qui-Gon and his fandom plants. And I thought Oban Ouaine sounds a little bit like Obi-Wan

the original plan was that the whole Venator is like a jungle with plants everywhere. @elwenyere brought up "they have a greenhouse?" and I ran with that instead, not knowing it would turn into a central stage for hope and healing for the characters

4. What fandoms do you write for?

I have written for 10 very different fandoms over my 12 years on AO3 but currently I'm really only actively writing for Dragon Age: The Veilguard and House of the Dragon.

5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

I always try to when I can but I'm awful at keeping up with them. Comments are the best bit about posting 💚

6. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

I don't think I've really end any of my fic's with a truly agnst filled ending but my recent sugarbaby EmmRook fic has had some delicious moments in it if I do say so myself. I also wrote a Rhaenys/ Corlys oneshot for House of the Dragon that didn't stray too far from canon.

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

In all honesty I don't think I really write happy endings either but Sugar and Spores is going to finish happily, that I know.

8. Do you get hate on fic's?

Not since I moved away from ff.net - the abuse and trolling on that site made me want to give up writing for a long while. AO3 has been an absolute balm to my soul.

9. Do you write smut?

Um. Yes. Absolutely. I only write smut now. I will continue to write smut even once im dead and buried. I will be writing smut in hell. I will be writing smut whilst I drink iced tea with the devil.

10. Do you write crossovers?

Honestly not that I can remember - I've done plenty of AU stuff over my years but not an actual attempt at a crossover.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

I mean not that I'm aware of. I'd wish the person that decides to the best of luck - nothing I've written recently is safe for public viewing.

No but I know like a lot of other people I'd be fucking delighted if someone asked for one to be translated. I have however helped other people translate their fics on the odd occasion.

Not yet. I've been lucky enough to be able to act as a sounding board for people before which I love doing but I'd never turn down the opportunity to get to write something with someone.

Nope. That's a cruel question. I could never pick from all my beloved otp's. *coughs nervously as they look at the 10 current wips in progress for EmmRook*

Honestly I have so many things posted over the years that I keep trying to convince myself to finish but never go back to. There is a multi-chapter thing I was writing last year for Stargate SG-1 that I keep trying to get back into though...

I've always struggled to look back at the stuff I've written and say if I think its good, even if I enjoyed writing it. But I like to think I have a knack for keep characters true to their original vibes etc.

I am the absolute worst for waffling. Word vomit. It's an issue - I spend more time editing out half a fic before posting because I got so carried away.

18. Thought's on wiriting dialogue in another language in a fic?

I love trying to include other languages, be them real or fiction. English is my native tongue but I've been lucky enough to build enough of an understanding in a few others that I always try to when it feels relevant to the character.

Oh, lord. Ummmm. Probably Doctor Who back when I was a kid - River Song was most definetely my gay awakening.

5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

I always plan to and then I get overwhelmed. I think I responded to the comments on my first Fictober entry and then I just... stopped. I never know how long it is considered socially acceptable to thank someone. Like does it have to be a day? A week? I never know. What if I thank someone a week later and the person is like, who even is this?

6. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

I truly don't know. I once wrote a major Character Death fic but considering the character was old, I'm not sure if angst applies.

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

All of them 😂

8. Do you get hate on fics?

I think I might have gotten hate on fics before but I don't remember. Pretty sure I've gotten hate for writing RPF.

I have written a few story with mild smut but it's not my favorite genre - to write or read.

The only crossover I remember writing was Frasier/Hot in Cleveland. That's very niche, not sure if that can be considered crazy.

Not that I recall. I have had people write sequels to my stories so that they could change things and make them how they wanted them. Which also isn't much fun.

Years ago, I started this fic called The Skiing AU. I think it was during Fictober. Also The Five Minutes series which I love so much that I'm worried any new chapter can't live up to the existing parts.

Everything that isn't dialogue. I can't set an atmosphere or write description in any shape or form. It doesn't help that I'm not a native speaker either.

I have written some dialogue in German for fic. It feels weird but why not?

Well...𝓻𝓲𝓰𝓱𝓽 𝔀𝓱𝓮𝓻𝓮 𝔂𝓸𝓾 𝓵𝓮𝓯𝓽 𝓶𝓮 rn but I have one coming out tomorrow that's also Billy the Kid and the ending is pretty...it's pretty angsty

What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

I try really hard to keep my endings happy because the nature of both fandoms I write for is inherently tragic but personally the one that warms my heart the most is either 𝓤𝓷𝓭𝓸𝓾𝓫𝓽𝓪𝓫𝓵𝓮 cause it's the end of the series or 𝓸𝓻𝓭𝓲𝓷𝓪𝓻𝔂 𝓽𝓱𝓲𝓷𝓰𝓼

Do you get hate on fics?

I've been very lucky to receive mostly positive feedback on my work- the closest I've gotten to hate was someone commenting on how I didn't include in the TWs that my Reader would be mentioned as thin and blue eyed (which I felt SO bad about and they were very kind about the whole situation- sometimes I don't catch that stuff in editing)

Do you write smut?

I do not purely because I'm a Christian girl (don't hate me) but that doesn't mean I judge others for doing so at all like y'all get freaky go nuts <3

tbh once I deem something a wip there's no stopping me until I finish it. Having drafts lowkey stresses me out (in a good way) I've finished almost everything I've started, the only exceptions being things that were either a) had no plot point at all besides the ship or b) my hyperfixation fizzled and I lost passion

What are your writing strengths?

I feel like I'm good at angst honestly, and the other thing I feel like I consistently do well is in the plot points of my stories. Honestly my self awareness isn't that great though so I could possibly be talking out of my ass

Thoughts on dialogue in another language?

I've done it briefly before because Billy canonically speaks Spanish but I am not a fluent speaker in any language except English so I'd be a little cautious doing it lol

The very first fandom I ever wrote in was Riverdale

Favourite fic you've written?

I'm still so proud of Pray You Catch me, but another one I love is Inamorata just cause it was so fun to write. But honestly I adore all my fics and though I'll always be self-critical they mean a lot to me because my followers have liked them so much <3
