I read a generally good fantasy-related article yesterday, but the author really lost credit with me with his conflation of the messages Tolkien espoused in writing and his political stances in real life.

#Yeah #no doubt that he actually saw reality as hierarchical with all virtue flowing straight from God.#And that he considered admitting a simple respect for 'higher-ups' as good for one #(the well-known 'setting one's cap for the squire is bad for the squire but good for oneself' comment)#But it is not up to debate that Tolkien was *distinctly* aware that real life kings are not perfect representatives of God #the way they figure in the medieval *ideal* and in his stories xd #Saying Aragorn's coronation proves anything about Tolkien's ideas on how 20th century humans should realistically be governed #is such a reading comprehension fail in terms of understanding paradigms and genres that I cannot even #my post #tolkien #the professor
