" God! This situation is soooo annoying!" Kajii said with a grumpy mood while looking at you,which made you chuckle.no matter how old he was or what position he was into,sometimes his actions no different than a small child.

"What's annoying?"

"There's nothing interesting around here! I've done all the experiments I've had in my mind,and now I have nothing to do!"

You rolled your eyes and let out a deep breath.you knew that he was addicted to science and experiments. No matter how expensive or dangerous they were,Katie was willing to do anything he could for them.He also had a thing for his cute,dangerous lemon-bombs,and you were no different.they were adorable! You admired his taste in choosing his bombs shape,

But you weren't exactly crazy about his taste in clothes...

"Then get some rest! Everyone needs to take a break from work from time to time! Don't think that you're an exception"

"Huh! What a useless thing to do!you want me to take a break?the world doesn't wait for me to take a break! Science is not something you can't take a break from!"

"Whatever.just stop whining about it then"

Even though he was your superior, he always treated you like a partner.he never cared about ranks or these kind of shit, and that made you like him even more.

You neve thought you would like someone as strange as him in the first place,but there was something about him that was so attractive to you.

taking a sip of his water,Kajii sighed and closed his eyes for a few seconds.he was rarely this calm,and it was adorable to you.you didnt want him to be upset,but...

suddenly an idea poped into your head.you smiled happily as your cheeks were turning red because of the idea.you could finally take a step closer to him if you could...

"Ahm!so...um...you wanna...you know...um..."

"what?what is it?"

"kissing is an experiment too,you know...?"

"oh...oh right! i havent considered that!" Kajii said as he got of his chair joyfully,taking a step closer to you which made you blush even harder.

"its awesome! how chemicals do stuff while youre kissing! i can use the humans biological reaction and make a device that will help us regain our power sooner on the battlefield! "

"yes! thats amazing! g-go ahead!"

you closed your eyes,ready to feel his lips againt yours,but you felt nothing.after a few seconds waiting,you opened your eyes to see what was taking him so long,

and then you saw him kissing his hands with an confused face.

"huh? why am i feeling nothing? those romantic movies must have tricked me...why are you looking at me like that?"

this dumbass! is he for real?

taking a deep breath out of anger,you ran at him,grab his shoulders and kiss him out of the blue.

eyes widened,Kajii was shocked as hell.his hands frozen in the air,he didnt have any idea what to do to you.you on the other hand,were so happy you didnt care about how his reaction at that moment.

a few moments later,you slowly drift the kiss apart,looked at his shocked face while putting a shy smile on your face.

"so...did you feel it this time?"

"huh?uh...oh...yeah...i-i guess..."

"so...was it enough to understand how it works?"

Kajii grabbed his hand and tried to look serious,but it only made your smile even bigger.

"well it was kinda sudden,so i didnt really get the whole thing. can we...like...do it again...?"

Summary: some reflecting on prior events happens.

Well, it has been quite the day for you. You never would have thought anything like this could have happened. “Freaking out” isn’t strong enough to describe your current state. You need to talk to someone, god you’re so happy right now. So you call Quinn.

“Hey, Quinny!”

“Sup Y/N/N?” he answers

“I’m picking up from work, and I'm about to head home, where you will be there too, with a bottle of our favorite wine and some take-out.”

“Got it, something important happened?”

“Yeah, you could say that.” you still couldn't stop smiling.

“Ok how important, expensive wine or REALLY expensive wine?”

“Uhhh in between,” you decided.

“Ahhh ok, can't wait. See you there, bye!!”

“Bye, Huggy”

You finish packing up and text Brock to tell him that you and Quinn are having a wine night, to make sure he knows to be somewhere else.

As you’re walking out, you call Holly.

“Hey, Babe!”

“Howdy!”

“God I always forget you interned in Dallas,” she says laughing.

“You pick that shit up quickly, I’m telling you. even the Fins were saying 'y'all'"

“So what’s up?” She asks.

“Are you free tonight, cause I have some very big news so it’s a wine night.”

“Umm, let me see if Bo wants to have the guys over and watch Gunnar” you hear her call her husband and ask him. “He said sure!”

“Okie Dokie! Text Quinn that you’re coming too, so he knows to get your usual from the take-out place” you tell her.

“Will do, and Y/N/N?" she says before you hang up.

“Yep?”

“Do you want me to grab ice cream?” She asks, already knowing your answer.

“Of course!”

“Ok, see you there” she hangs up.

You drive home jamming out to your music, as everyone should. You still can’t believe what happened today. It feels like it happened last week but it also feels like you never left that break room. Hopefully, Elias won’t mind that you’re telling Quinn and Holly. As long as you tell them not to say anything to the other guys, all should be well.

Once you get home, the dogs greet you at the door, “Oh hi! Hi sweeties! Oh yes, yes hi Coolieee, oh you’re such a cutie,” you drop your bags and get down on your knees to get on their level. When you get on your knees, Milo knows it means you want him to hug you, so he hops up and puts his paws on your shoulders. “Hi, hi, hi, oh thank you for the hugs. Oh yes auntie loves you soooooo much mmwwaaa”

Quinn is there and has everything set up and ready to go, so you change into your sweats and grab your blanket, and sit next to Quinn on the couch, grabbing your glass of wine and food before you sit down. Now you just have to wait for Holly

“Sooo, what’s the news?” Quinn asks you.

“Holly isn’t here yet, we have to wait.”

”Oh so it’s that good?” He raises his eyebrows.

“What do you mean?” You question, taking a sip of your wine.

“Well, when the news isn’t that important you usually don’t care if she hears it after me, or I hear it after her. But when it’s super important news, you have the other one wait.”

“Hmm, well then yeah. It’s pretty fuckin’ great, I don’t think I’ve stopped smiling for like 5 hours.”

Just then Holly comes in the door with Gus under one arm and a grocery bag full of ice cream in her other hand, “hi puppies, yes I have your friend with me”

“Oh! Hi Burton!!” You say with your puppy voice.

“Ok, why do you call him Burton? I never understood that.”

“It’s from one of my favorite shows!” You exclaim

“Y/N/N I don’t know if you know this but you, your brother, and Quinn all have like 50 “favorite TV shows” I’m gonna need you to say more than that,” she says to you as she grabs her food from the counter, and heads to the couch. She sits on the side of you not occupied by Quinn.

“Ok, rude,” Quinn sassed.

“It’s from Psych. One of the main characters is called Gus, but his first name is Burton, and the police chief and one of the detectives calls him by his full name which is Burton Guster, so there.”

“Got it.”

“Ok, Holly no more distractions,” Quinn starts, sticking his tongue out at her, she returns the gesture. “So what’s the important news?”

“Oh, you didn’t tell him yet! So it’s really important!” she says.

“Hmm, I guess I do do that,” you realize, “I would actually like you guys to guess” you take a bite of your food, smugly. Knowing neither of them would even have an idea of what to guess.

“Hmmm,” Quinn hums, he looks like he has a mischievous grin “does it have to do with a certain Swede?”

“Wha-“ you choke on your bite of food, Quinn is giggling at your reaction, “the fuck? How’d you know that?”

“Well umm, a certain brother of yours may have asked me if he should do that plan.”

“Why would you do that?’ you whined, upset at your friends for teaming up on you. You couldn’t imagine what you would’ve done if that plan didn’t work out the way it did today.

“Did it work?” He asked with a grin.

“That’s not the point, asshole!”

“See but it worked! He doesn’t hate you anymore, now you can flirt your ass off and make him see you as more than a friend” he tells you.

You laugh, he has no idea what happened in that break room.

“Ok, I’m out of the loop here, what happened?” Holly interjects

“Ok, well my idiot brother and apparently my asshole best friend came up with this plan-“

“Actually Marky and Thatch knew about it too,” he stops you from interrupting, “AND, to be fair, you can’t blame Brock for going to us. I mean I’m your best friend, and the goalies are just good at planning and doing crazy things”

“WELL. Those dicks that I call my closest friends and family, decided it was a good idea to lock me in one of the Canucks break rooms with Elias fucking Pettersson because he hated me and they wanted us to get along”

Holly starts laughing, “oh my god, they did not” she continues to laugh and Quinn joins her. You roll your eyes at them both.

“Yes, they did. I was not a happy camper. But it worked out and he doesn’t hate me.”

“See, I knew it would work! And like I said, now you can work your moves and get him to like you as more than just a friend.” He grins again.

You grin “Oh, also that’s the other part.” You take a long sip of your wine, both Holly and Quinn stared at you wide-eyed, waiting for you to finish, “turns out he’s a great kisser”

“I’m sorry,” Quinn said softly, he took a breath ��WHAT?”

“Yeah, would you like more details?”

“Fucking- yeah,” they said simultaneously.

You went on to explain the events that happened in that incredible breakroom

“How the fuck did he keep that a secret, and why?” Quinn exclaimed, clearly confused that he didn't know something so big about who he considers one of his best friends.

“I don't know, but both of you have to absolutely promise me that you won't tell literally anyone else, ok? Not Bo, not Brock, not Demer, Stech, Marky, nobody!”

“Yeah, yeah that's fine,” Holly said, waving her hand in dismissal, wanting to get past that and know more. “So how do you feel?”

“Like the luckiest girl in the world,” you said while giggling with a big smile.

“Y/N/N. I’m so happy for you.” Quinn says with a genuine smile.”

“Ok, enough about me. How were your days?”

“Not as interesting as yours, but Gunnar and I spent the whole day out and about with Bo, and now I’m having a great wine night with you guys so it’s been a pretty amazing day.”

“Yeah, well I spent the whole day waiting for Y/N to come to kill me cause I thought she’d find out I had something to do with that whole situation,” Quinn says.

“Well let me just tell you, Hughes, if it hadn’t ended up the way it did, I may have had a few words for you.”

“I know, that’s why I was panicking the whole day”

“OH MY GOD” Holly shouted as she looked at her phone

“What, what’s wrong?” You ask

“Umm, you are going to LOVE this shit, Y/N/N”

She thrusts her phone in your face. When you look down you see a picture of Elias holding Gunnar, with a toy you hadn’t seen before. Elias looks so happy, looking down at the baby Horvat. Then there’s another alert on Holly's phone, “ohmygod,” you mumble. The alert is another text from Bo, it’s a video this time. You press play. In the video Elias is playing with Gunnar, using a high-pitched baby voice “oh yes you love your new toy that the best uncle in the world got you! Yes, you do cause I’m your very favorite, yes I am. You are just so cute, so lucky you got your looks from your mama, yes you are.”

From behind the camera, you can hear Bo, “Hey, have you looked at him, he looks just like me”

“Daddy is crazy, isn’t he? Yeaaaaah” Elias says to the boy.

The video ends and you see what text Bo had sent along with the picture and video

Bowie 💙: Yes, he got him ANOTHER toy. If he keeps this up, we’re gonna need a bigger house just for the toys lias gets him

“This boy is going to be the death of me I swear to god,” you say, handing the phone to Quinn, and placing your head in your hand. That video was literally the cutest thing you’ve seen in about 5 years.

You continue to talk, you end up explaining what Elias had told you about not doing anything else yet, and what he had said regarding that. You all finish eating and eventually decide on watching some ’how i met your mother’.

After they leave, you spend the rest of the night replaying the events from the break room in your head. Imagining what will eventually happen with you two. You truly can’t believe it. You’ve never felt this way about anyone and you’ve only known he likes you for about 12 hours. Elias Pettersson is going to be a special, if not the most special person in your life. So you pull out your notebook and a pen that you always keep next to your bed and you write your thoughts down.

First, you write the date at the top then skip 2 lines

Elias Pettersson, I think I love you. I know it’s too early to say and we’ve only had one day together, but I need to write this down.

It looks ridiculous and cheesy now that I’m reading it but if my gut is right, which it normally is, I just had to write it down. I had to tell you. If not in real life, at least just in this notebook. As cliche as it sounds, maybe I can show you it one day. I mean I do love myself a hallmark movie, so maybe this can be like one of those.

You sign it at the bottom, close your notebook, and place it back in your drawer.

You’re such a hopeless romantic and you kinda want to make fun of yourself, like you would do if you found out any of the guys did this kind of thing. ( And if you’re being honest, you wouldn’t be surprised if your own brother would do something like this. Your parents kind of instilled a love of romcoms in you guys at a young age.)

So once your thoughts have settled, you close your eyes and drift off to sleep.

Elias’s night wasn’t that much different. He arrived at the Horvat residence with some snacks for the boys, and a new toy for Gunnar, as always. Every time he sees one he knows Gunnar will like, he buys it...it’s a problem.

“Petey!!” Stech shouts as he gets up to grab the snacks from him.

“So how was your daaaaay” Thatcher asks from the couch.

“I’m sure Brock has inform you of how my day went”

“‘Inform’ us he has. But OUR plan is what caused this. WE worked very hard on it” Thatcher says, chuckling.

“Wait, who all knew about it??”

“I didn’t!” Bo shouts from the kitchen!

“And neither did this little boy, he would never betray me,” Elias says, grabbing Gunnar from Brock on the couch and carrying him into the kitchen, the other guys follow. “And guess what Gunnar!!! I got you another toy, cause I’m the best uncle you have, yes I am.”

“Another toy Lias?? Really, I’m going to need to make a whole mother room for all of the toys you get him if you don’t stop”

“But why would I ever stop when he is the best boy ever! He deserves the world, yes he does,” Elias says, looking at Gunnar the whole time.

“Ok, now it’s time for him to have dinner,” Bo says, grabbing Gunnar from Elias.

“So… all of you knew?”

Stech, Brock, Demer, and Marky all nodded, with a guilty look.

“What about you? Elias said, looking at Nils. Nils looked guilty and nodded slowly “my own son? Really Hogs?”

“I’m sorry, I just wants to help you!!”

“We all just ‘wants’ to help you, Petey!” Marky said, mocking the youngest Swede’s mistake. All of them would do that to both of them, make fun of them when they messed up, they just wanted to help them, it’s all in good fun.

“Ok, I know but what if it didn’t work, what would you guys have done?”

“Elias my dear, the point is that it did work. And now Brock won’t have an aneurysm every time you and Y/N/N are in the same room together” Troy says, placing his arm around Elias’s shoulder.

“Yeah Petey, all we wanted was for you to like her as much as we do!” Thatcher said.

“Ok, I never hated her, I just-”, he paused trying to come up with what he was going to say next, “I don’t socialize well, it’s hard for me to talk to people, ok?”

“Which is exactly why we did this. Y/C/N/N is a sweet girl, we just needed to give you both a push since you’re essentially the same person” Marky said.

“LITERALLY” Brock shouted, “ I swear, the more and more I hang out with you, Petey, the more I realize you and my sister are the same. Like sure, she and Quinny are best friends. And like they’re both similar like they’re both shy, awkward, nice, and stuff but you two have the same humor, need for attention, sassy bite, etcétéra etcétéra.”

“Oh my god, you’re totally right! And their fake self confident-ness thingy!!” The other guys shouted assorted affirmations to Nils’s comment.

“What do you mean ‘fake self-confidence thing’?” Elias was confused.

“Both of you do a something where you say stuffs like “well I’m hot, so..” or “cause I’m the best” and my favorite “because the people likes me better than you” but neither of you feel that way far down. You both just like to act like you more confident than you are really.”

“Damn, he called you two out, and he’s so right” Bo chimed in with a chuckle. “Ok, well now that he’s done eating, Marky, can you and the baby Swede go out and pick up the pizza?”

“Yes sir, captain sir!” Marky said saluting Bo.

The rest of them talked while they waited for Gunnars stomach to settle.

“Hey Petey, wanna go grab drinks from the store with me,” Thatcher asks.

“I think we’re good actu-“ Bo starts

“Petey” Thatcher insists with a look that says that’s not exactly the reason why he wants Elias to come with him. And he knows better than to say no to a goalie who gives him that look.

“Yep,” he gets up and follows Demer out the door.

They get in the car and that’s when it starts “so,” Thatch says, “how long have you liked her?” He asks.

“I- uh what? What are you talking abou-”

“Oh save it blondy, I have a 6th sense about this shit.”

“Damn goalies. At least Marky doesn’t know,” Elias mumbles under his breath.

“Oh he definitely does, he just hasn’t said anything for some reason” he laughs.

“How do you know he just doesn’t know?”

“Cause I know this shit, bro. He may have even been messing with you since he and Y/N/N are cuddle buddies and shit. Just to get you to make a move or something”

“HE MADE ME DO THE OPPOSITE! I thought they were together for the longest time until she told me TODAY” That made Thatcher laugh, you know, Elias’s pain and suffering is just HILARIOUS.

Once he calmed down he continued to talk, “Ok, well you didn’t tell us the whole story of what happened in there, so spill” he said as they walked into the store.

“We may have talked”

“....bitch that’s not it, keep going”

“And we kissed a little,” Elias said, face turning red.

“That’s my boy!” Thatcher clapped him on the shoulder.

“You're only 3 years older than me”

“And you're only a year older than Nils, who you claim as your ‘son,’ so shhh” he retorted, “so I assume you two talked about it after, actually knowing you two, that may not have happened,” Thatcher said as they checked out.

“Ha ha ha, yes we talked about it Douglas,” Elias said with an eye roll. “I just told her that I can’t do anything till I do something” he said as they got into the car again.

“What’s that “something” you have to do?” The goalie questioned.

“Talk to her older brother that may just kill me if I tell him so, I’m not too pumped about that.”

“Have you forgotten how much Brock loves you? You’re each other’s work husbands, I think if you tell him he’ll be shocked, but he’d be ok with it.”

“But you didn’t hear what Brock had said about his friend chad in high school! He beat him up and cut him out, I don’t want that to happen to me”

“Petey, if you feel as strongly as I think you feel about YNN then I think you have to tell her, or that would be an extreme disservice to you, her, and honestly my mental health, so you have some work to do.” He said as they finally walked into the Horvat house again.

“Yeah, Petey you have to work on some stuff, like your hair!” Brock quipped.

“Shut up, frat boy, not all of us can have a luscious flow like you.” Elias jabbed back, “oh hi, how’s my favorite person here? Is your tummy settled now, can I finally give you your new toy?”

“Yes, you can,” Bo says, handing his child off to the blonde Swede.

Elias took Gunnar down to the floor, where his new toy was, and played with him while talking in his baby voice, at some point Bo took a video and sent it to Holly, and also his insta story. But that’s ok, he loved his little ‘nephew,’ and honestly, his day couldn’t have gone better.

Fiona Mackinnon’s Meet Me at Dawn Assistant Director Blog #5

As the festival comes to an end, I’m feeling a mixture of emotions. Partly down to sleep deprivation and a large consumption of fried food for the last month, but also partly because of vast amounts of mind blowing and expanding theatre, people, and collaborations that I have experienced too. As we enter the final performances of Meet Me at Dawn, it feels like the right time to reflect on what being part of Travfest17 has meant to me.

Let’s rewind to the first time we put Meet Me at Dawn on stage in front of an audience.

Previews are a little bit like a first date –you’re confident about who you are, and what you have to share, but you’re not sure how the other is going to receive you. This means although you are yourself, it can be a little shaky as you suss out the situation. Afterwards, you debrief with your best friends, or a note session as we call it in theatre (I realise this analogy only works so far…), before doing it all again. Watching it with the audience, felt like I was experiencing it for the first time again.

After two previews we went into press night on the 6th (or day, as we were on at 1:45 pm), and officially opened. This was my first proper experience of what a press day during the festival entails. The traverse staff make the day personable with each show having a snack related to the play, for example, The Whip Hand had Tennant’s lager as their drink, and we had toffees as our snack (both references from the plays). This touch makes the day feel special, but also motivates reviewers, performers, guests and the Traverse team to get through a long day, and to celebrate opening (disclaimer: the alcohol was obviously only consumed once work was over). Press performances can sometimes have a strange atmosphere due to their nature, but something that became apparent from ours was now that the play had settled into itself, we found that the comedic moments were getting a much bigger reaction than we imagined. I think those moments exist as a release, we can only experience the lows if we experience the highs, and the audience really reinforced that. By this stage, Sharon and Neve (the actors) had also settled into the performance and had really found the natural rhythm of the piece which accentuates all those moments, and Charli (DSM) was spot on with the technical cues.

After that, it’s a strange experience for the creative team as our roles are no longer needed as much. What had been a big Meet Me at Dawn family then disperses after opening into a core team of the actors, technical team and stage management, who continue recreating the magic each day. My role then entailed popping in to see the show once a week, mainly as support, but also to give notes if needed, and a line run as a warm up after days off. Other members of the creative team would pop in as well, throughout the run. The changes during the run would only be subtle if any. A natural progression that often happens is the liveness in which we feel from the play. Everyone is confident in what they are doing, and how the audience may react, so they are able to really listen and be in the moment. I found that every time I revisited the show, I was struck by the emotion and magic each time. Neve eloquently put that;

‘Moments gain a clarity you never saw before because of the audience connection and reaction. It becomes whole; more than the sum of its parts- it’s not just about what we want to do with it, or parts of it, it’s what the audience want from it too that shapes the story.’

Along with noting the show, I worked on the Breakfast Plays: B!RTH and managed to see all 19 shows at the Traverse, as well as many elsewhere. For the first time, I have a grasp of how great programming can work- there are clear motifs throughout the collection of shows here, and even the plays that initially seem less obvious are tied in some way to the bigger picture. Orla and the team at the Traverse are so in tune with what is current to the theatrical landscape, what is of a high quality, and also what is urgent and important. The conversations I have overheard in the Trav bar have been heated, questioning, sometimes grief stricken, but often joyous and energized (if the rapping lions in Lilith: The Jungle Girl don’t make you squeal with joy then I don’t know what will). It is unquantifiable the effect that these shows have had on its audience, and how we continue to carry what we’ve experienced with us, but I have no doubt that sparks from the shows will manifest in random moments, as they have already in the conversations I’ve been having with friends and family.

So as the fire goes out for the final time in Meet Me at Dawn, I feel overwhelmed by what this whole experience has done for me as a theatre director, a maker, a woman, and a human. There is heart, intelligence and a high standard behind all of the work here that exists from the Box Office, to Front of House, to the bartenders, the office staff, the technical team, the creatives and the performers, that simply makes the Traverse a unique place to be. It took a few failed attempts, and a lot of door knocking to get in, but I’m so glad I persisted. I’m off now to sleep for a few days and to eat a mountain of vegetables …thanks so much for reading the blogs and thanks for having me #Travfest17, it was a pleasure

Italy’s Contemporary Art Scene

The contemporary art scene is very much active in Italy and most often it is free!

Places:

1) Le Murate “walled”; used to be a nunnery that then turned into a prison. In Piazza Madonna della Neve. http://www.lemurate.comune.fi.it/lemurate/

“Le Murate is part of a municipal project to breathe a little life into the city’s contemporary art scene.” (WOW, A CITY WILLING TO SUPPORT THE ARTS, TAKE NOTE AMERICA)

“Be sure to also take a stroll outside to appreciate the restoration of adjacent buildings as part of the whole project. The mix of new architecture with old structures is definitely worth a glance.” (**POSSIBLE LOCATION FOR EMBROIDERY/SKETCH PROJECT FOR INDEP. STUDY; includes interesting juxtaposing architecture and an active art scene that blends new age with history, seems like a perfect place for my mixed media that think will try to highlight the seemingly walking contradictions that are present in old, still busy cities like florence)

2) EX3 and combo of the word exhibition and neighborhood three http://www.ex3.it (their website is Solo in Italiano, allora di piu pratica per me!)

“ it could quite possibly contain the biggest exhibition room in all of Florence. Think modest airplane hangar or small town arena.” (I AM KNOWN FOR BEING DRAWN TO WORKD MONUMENTAL IN SCALE, this place seems as though it often dabbles in not only bigger projects but based off further reading of this place, it has many different types of artists in its walls including sound and light artists which would be really inspiring to see in a big space. How could i record me seeing a different artists exhibits in my own work?)

Reaction to Article: This was a quick and to the point article but it has already opened the door to a new world of art that i will stepping into. It has started to get me thinking about the different things i want to try to incorporate in my work abroad or at least give me locations of places that serve as inspiration.

Aria Art Gallery Its permanent collection contains works by contemporary greats, such as Rodin, Modigliani and Warhol. Nestled in an historical garden in the heart of the city. (BIG FAN OF MODIGLIANI, ALWAY SHAVE BEEN SINCE I WAS INTRODUCED TO HIS WORK! Another artist i could take as inspiration when thinking about different styles, like stylized sketching not so much h looking a the literal form but the stylized for gestural form)

BASE – Progetti per l’Arte A non-profit space by artists for artists, attracting all those looking to explore the many interesting aspects of the art of today. (VERY INTERESTED, could see a completely artist made culture. reminds me of the british female artist that came to visit, Tash Kahn and her DOLPH project)

Biagiotti Arte Contemporanea The gallery turned non-profit highlights emerging contemporary artists of all mediums, with a focus on exploring methodologies that the newest generations of artists adhere to. (LOVING THE FAC TTHAT THERE ARE SO MANY NONPROFIT, ARTIST RUN PLACES. I want to not just do simple embroidery and drawing, i want to play around with materiality and explore how i can change classic embroidery and mixed media concepts, this could be a good inspiration for alternative making)

Cartavetra Gallery Part exhibition space, part workshop, Cartavetra hosts a variety of shows and artistic opportunities. (Could take a workshop in ITALY? and take notes, make art according to what i learn, could serve as a type of “;lecture” for my INDEP STUD?)

This article has more than 20 suggestions on where to go, im not going to cover them all in this blog post but id love to visit most of them. I have never actively seeked out art event happening n cities near me, but maybe being active in the contemporary art scene in another city will make me come back more motivated to dip a toe in americas contemporary pool, especially n my home city of DC and Harrisonburg even)

Florence is known as the “capital of art”, i actually didn't know this and feel kind of stupid for not knowing it sooner. Like, i didn't think it was the official “capital of art”

The Uffizi: houses perhaps Botticelli’s most widely known piece, the birth of Venus. Beyond that though “ but parts of the building itself are artworks in their own right. The ceiling of the East Corridor, is brimming with colorful figures and forms, while the octagonal Tribuna room, with its marble floors and pearl shell-encrusted dome, also warrants a closer look.” (More examples of beautiful architecture to draw inspiration from, I could overlap the many ceiling of italy in one piece?)

Museo Dell’opera del duomo: Sounds as though this museum is unknown or overlooked at least. I like the idea of visiting the more hidden parts of the city especially since i will be there for so ling. I will have time to do the popular stuff with my tour groups, but the nitty gritty and the nooks and crannies are what im looking for. I want to cover in my art, place that go overlooked by the common tourist

Something tells me we think alike, as crazy great minds often do) :D

National Museum of Bargello

(Seems as though the artists and criminals go hand in hand a lot, or they at least seem to often share the same spaces, I guess criminals and artists are one in the same in respect to the fact that they are often social outcasts in one way or the other)

Iw as thinking in more of a contemporary way, but what better wya to begin my exploration of the world of sculpture by starting with the foundation? I want to figure out what i personally like and what personally spars inspiration in me when i see particular sculptures to hopefully better understand myself as an artists and perhaps to store some information away for when i try my hand in sculpture back at JMU, it could also help understand the dynamic spacial relationship between and piece and where it is installed)

On the Streets

Stroll through the streets of Florence and you will be met with an array of artistic gems. Though lots of tourists pass through the doors of the Palazzo Vecchio, few take the time to stop and admire the artworks in the public courtyard. As part of an effort to spruce up the courtyard in the run-up to the marriage between Francesco de’ Medici and Hapsburg Princess Joanna of Austria, the Medicis had Vasari add frescoes depicting various Hapsburg estates, as well as stucco adornments on the columns. Unfortunately, a time-tight Vasari had to do his work on dry walls rather than wet plaster, a shortcut that ultimately hasn’t helped with preservation, but these often neglected artworks are still fascinating to behold. (I already plan to do studies of the art i find on the street for my INDEP. STUDY. I am one of those who cant help but notice ANYTHING remotely artistic looking especially when exploring a new city, so this will not be a challenge for me. For me i want t find the art in the stufff that is not often thought of as art, especially in a city surrounded by art, what can if ind that is overlooked on the streets and elevate it to the level of the statues that surround it? How do the people are the art change the art itself?)

This yet another article that sits a multitude of places which i will catalogue but not take up space on this post about.

Premier League: Cardiff City 2-1 Wolves

What on earth can you say about that? Neil Warnock’s Cardiff side came from behind to beat Nuno Santo’s Wolves in South Wales on Friday night as Wolves’ dismal run continues. Since playing Crystal Palace at the beginning of October, Wolves have scored once from open play in six games. Prior to the Huddersfield and Cardiff games, the problem for Nuno’s side had largely been down to not having enough conviction in front of goal, however, over the last 180 minutes of football that they’ve played, new problems have started to arise. Rather than not being good enough to take the chances, Wolves are now not creating many chances of note. Of course, credit has to be given for Cardiff and Huddersfield for restricting Nuno’s side, but it seems to be the same problem at the moment.

Wolves struggle to play their free-flowing football against teams that pack the midfield and Friday night was no different as Warnock went to three at the back to counter Nuno in what was a 3-1-4-2 formation. The central midfield triangle of Joe Ralls, Aron Gunnarsson and Harry Arter had the upper-hand over Neves and Moutinho for the majority of the evening as seemingly most midfields do when it’s a three on two situation. That’s not a dig at Neves and Moutinho, not by a long shot as the system is failing them, all the same, changes will be made for the Chelsea game after Neves picked up his fifth booking of the season. We will revisit that later.

Team News

Nuno made a couple of changes as Adama Traore was brought in for Ivan Cavaleiro and Romain Saiss was brought in for the previously ever-present Ryan Bennett. While nothing official has come out from the club, one can only imagine that Bennett had a slight knock which is why Saiss replaced him as the Cardiff game was meant for someone like him. To be fair to Saiss, he did put in a good shift, even if he did pick up what is his mandatory yellow card. Traore was Traore, he excites and frustrates in equal amounts and despite a couple of glimpses, he didn’t look that threatening.

The hosts replaced Greg Cunningham with Junior Hoilett and Kelvin Harris with Josh Murphy. Looking at the scoreline, it’s fair to say it worked a treat and despite going a goal down to yet another goal from a set piece, Cardiff, on the whole, looked like the better side.

In this tactical analysis, we will look at how the three goals were scored, an example of how Cardiff’s midfield was superior and maybe a couple of other bits and pieces chucked in for good measure. Without further ado, let’s get cracking!

A Fine Start For Wolves

In the preview for the game, we looked at Lewis Dunk’s goal for Brighton against Cardiff a few weeks ago and noted that it came about from an outswinging freekick. Nuno finally seems to be reading the previews (I’m joking) as an outswinging corner created the opening and only Wolves goal of the game.

Following good work from Traore down the right, Moutinho delivers the ball to the near post.

Wolves finally recognised Moutinho’s inability to get any real distance on his corners as Jimenez moved to the near post before rising highest and having an effort well saved by Neil Etheridge in the Cardiff goal. The eventual goalscorer, Doherty is being marked by Gunnarsson. Not for long.

Doherty reacts quickest to Etheridge’s save.

Etheridge does fantastically well to get down and save Jimenez’ effort, nonetheless, he is let down by his defence. Gunnarsson has a hold on Doherty, but when the Irishman breaks free, there’s not enough time for the Icelandic midfielder to recover and Doherty puts it into the roof of the net. 17 minutes in and a goal to the good, things were looking good for Nuno’s side. Historically, this season, Wolves don’t lose when they take the lead. That’s a fact. Asides from draws against Arsenal and Man City where Wolves had taken the lead, Wolves always win. Not this time. Hence the slight panic which is emanating from Wolves fans on social media.

Gunnarsson’s Revenge

After Conor Coady deflected Harry Arter’s rasping drive wide, a corner was delivered into the box which was headed out to the edge of the area by Willy Boly. It’s there where we join the action.

Shape? What shape?

Wolves try and press the ball after Boly heads it out. That’s fine, although the lack of positional shape left in the area is extremely apparent. Coady orders Doherty to push up which there or thereabouts leaves Gunnarsson offside from the looping ball and everyone seems to think that’s the end of the problem. Wolves completely discount for any midfield runners and that’s where the problems begin.

Most of the defenders have the same idea.

Is there an argument that Patricio is being blocked off? Probably. Are there bigger questions that need answering? You bet. For starters, why is Rui even coming off his line? If he’s going to come off his line, he has to make sure he gets there as it’s too much of a critical scenario to not do so. He should clear the player in front of him out the way and take it from above Morrison. If not, he should just stay on his line as Morrison is hardly going to score directly from there, not with Saiss in relatively close quarters.

A Defensive Disaster Class

Secondly, Doherty, Coady and Saiss all have the same idea once Morrison wins the ball in the air. Get back on the line and cover Rui. Nobody bothers to close down Gunnarsson who has got a criminal amount of room in the penalty area. So much so, he has time to take a touch on his chest before scoring a scissor kick. What’s that all about?

Lastly, there’s Willy Boly. After winning the initial header, he doesn’t get back to a jog, let alone a sprint. The ball goes over his head, he turns around has a stroll back, watches Gunnarsson chest the ball down and score. All while maintaining his walk. I mean, seriously? At least try and get back. Nobody is going to criticise Boly if he sprints back and Gunnarsson scores, but the fact of the matter is that he didn’t and it’s quite frankly inexcusable. Then again, the same could be said about Neves, who is too busy appealing the block on Rui and also Vinagre. Boly is the closest though so he should take responsibility.

In summary of this goal, all of the three that went to the line shouldn’t have all done the same thing and Boly should have just done something. Not good enough.

Another Set Piece, Another Goal Conceded

There’s something about defending set pieces that Wolves really don’t like doing. A free-kick from just in front of the halfway line ultimately results in Cardiff’s second goal. A cross into the area doesn’t really cause any damage, so we will join the action on the other side of the pitch after Hoilett brings Joe Ralls into play.

Doherty and Hoilett are circled for a reason.

Ralls’ left foot swings the ball into the box, nothing much seems to be happening from it, though. The danger is pretty much over, or so the relaxed state of the Wolves defence would have you believe. Let’s fast forward a few seconds and see where we are.

Saiss blocks the attempt before it all unravels.

Going back to Doherty and Hoilett (circled), you can see that Doherty has now decided to watch the ball rather than his man. Gunnarsson has also left Gibbs-White for dead on the edge of the area which is worrying in itself considering Gibbs-White had only just come off the bench. Essentially, what happens next is the block from Saiss goes into the path of Hoilett and he bends one in the top corner.

Keep that one out.

Right, take absolutely nothing away from Hoilett here, it’s a wonderful, wonderful strike which was fit to win any game. Nevertheless, there are a couple of question marks that can be raised once again. The split second where Doherty is watching the ball is paramount as Doherty would have got the block on the shot. Secondly and being uber critical, does Rui lead with the wrong hand when he tries to save the shot? He tries to save it with his right-hand, yet his left-hand would have had a greater reach.

Individual Errors Cost Wolves Dearly

Regarding the goals, you could atone some of the blame onto Rui for the first and maybe the second. Boly can’t be let off with the first goal, Doherty can’t with the second. I’ve lost count of how many times Doherty has been at fault yet he continues to play because we literally don’t have anyone else that can play there in the senior squad. When Jonny returns from injury, it’ll be interesting to see if Nuno persists with Jonny on the left and Doherty on the right or whether Jonny will slot in at RWB.

Before closing off, we’ll take a look at an example of how Cardiff’s midfield three easily turned over possession. From this single image which I’m about to show you, you get an idea of how Cardiff crowded out the two Portuguese midfielders and won the game. Yes, there were other mitigating factors involved in Cardiff beating Wolves, however, it was first and foremost won in the midfield.

Crowded out.

As mentioned earlier, Ralls, Gunnarsson and Arter worked really well as a triangle and the above example is one of the numerous times where they worked in a trio to win the ball back. From there, they win the ball back and then press the Wolves backline, using manipulative passes to keep the ball away from the baying Wolves. To repeat an earlier point, this is the second game on the bounce that this has happened and Wolves have now got the joy of welcoming Sarri’s Chelsea to Molineux tomorrow.

Final Thoughts

Four out of the Wolves back five had a pass success rate of under 70% which tells it’s own story. Cardiff’s overall pass success rate was actually worse than Wolves’, but it’s not as big as a part of Cardiff’s game so therefore it shouldn’t be taken into that much consideration from the Bluebirds point of view. Nuno deserves time at Wolves and anyone calling for him to go should give their head a wobble. Saying that, if Wolves fail to win any of their next three, questions should be asked.
