Like the proverbial frog giving a ride to a scorpion, I don't see justification for complaint regarding the eventual sting. I love the game, and the designers, so that's really my metric. As a note, everyone I worked with on the narrative team was wonderful.

I don't want a passing secret lair of five cards; I am interested in a full-blown set, so with that constraint, I wouldn't foresee a Stormlight or Mistborn crossover until one of several things happens:

1) They burn through the bigger properties that match MTG's vibe like LOTR did. Fantasy, or science fantasy, properties that feel legit as a big expansions. As mentioned in this thread alone, there is a pretty deep mine there. Dune, Witcher, Elder Scrolls, Arcane/LoL, Westeros (if they're feeling spicy.) A hobbit set is all but inevitable as well.

Considering they'd be unwise to put these sorts of things out too quickly, and should really give them time to breathe, we're looking at ten years easily before they're out of larger fish to fry. Stormlight is big for a book series, but without any shows/films/games, I'd suspect it doesn't have the casual word-of-mouth reach their marketing team looks for to justify the extra expense of licensing fees.

2) Said bigger properties decide they aren't interested, leaving things popular but without media representation. If they ever decided to experiment with a book-only series, I suspect I'd be very high on the list to approach.

3) Cosmere gets one of said media properties, something I'm actively trying to accomplish--but it is slow going, as I'm in the fortunate position of being able to be very picky about partners, and prefer to take my time.

I've made it clear to them that if a large-scale set were in the, ahem, cards, I'd be willing to make frequent trips to Seattle to be part of the design team on said set.

Brandon Sanderson: Yes, I've done thought experiments on that, and think guilds could actively work for them without too much trouble. Problem is, would we want a Stormlight set or just a Knights Radiant set, because ten guilds for ten orders is already a high demand. It might be better to make a wedge set, but the problem there is that the Radiants are actively all colors, so it would be hard to cut out any save black. (Willshaper individuality and artistic expression could be green red instead of red black, for example.) So maybe five four-color wedges? I think the lore could support this, and be something that MTG has had trouble conveying without the expansive worldbuilding an entire book series could provide.

Radiants and sapient spren (all but black, to indicate the inherent selfless Radiant cause)

Human Nations (all but green, to indicate triumph over nature, which is an antagonist on Roshar.)

Singers (All but blue, to indicate the lack of ability to plan for the future, dearth of scholars, and onset of madness in the fused.)

Non-sapient Spren and wildlife (All but white, to indicate lack of overriding societal structures.)

Legit, I'm gonna be forever bitter that

One) The Mass Effect Legendary Edition did not make Kaidan an ME1 romance option for Male Shepard, repackaging 2007/2010's homophobia in 2021,

and

Two) That fandom LET that just slide, despite this not being a case of a pure 1:1 remaster, so they COULD have done that easily - the PC mods were out within a couple of weeks, using nothing but in-game assets, after all. They were making ME1's mechanics fit with those in ME2 and 3, so they were legitimately working with changing content in the game in question. But the point is still that the fandom - even people who were on board with the response to Andromeda's unbalanced M/M romances and the "Make Jaal Bi" campaign didn't stand up and say "hey, can't you fix this SOMEHOW?"

Three) The marketing from BioWare actively downplaying that Kaidan IS an option in ME3 - the cast reunion to celebrate the release of the Legendary Edition DIDN'T include any Kaidan/Male Shepard romance elements, which I can only assume was BECAUSE it wasn't an option in ME1 and they didn't want to deal with the question of why it was in 3 but not 1,

Four) The way Mac Walters, who was the creative head for Mass Effect at the time laughed off the question of putting that romance in, and also changed the subject over to the topic of how LIARA'S model changed over the course of the games, ostensibly bridged by the issue of model interaction... What did you think of this year’s MAMA awards?

Pretty mid for the most part. Only redeeming factors for me was G-Dragon and BigBang reuniting and reminding everyone who the GOATs are and Seventeen performing Ash, one of their most slept on B-sides. Apart from that, nothing else really moved me.

Functionally, they could have done away with the entire US section of the show. It just doesn't work at all. MAMA is supposed to be a party/celebration of K-pop feel, and it's all the more apparent when they thought the Dolby Theater was the best venue they could host the show at (it isn't). Comparing it to the other two shows held in Japan, the difference is night and day. They could have crammed all those performers and performances into Day 1 at Kyocera Dome and it would have made a more coherent show, in my opinion. Seriously, those performances would have greatly benefitted from the bigger stage layout. It also goes against what MAMA should be thematically; it's a K-pop award show being held in the United States. I get that K-pop is global now, but it's still Asian through and through (yes I know they dumped the Mnet Asian Music Awards acronym a few years back, fuck that lmao).

Not to mention, some of the stages were flatout marketing fakeouts. They promoted this collaboration between Karina, Rei, and those two other boy idols as some kind of special stage, but they were only presenting an award or intro'ing something. They did follow through on the boy band stage, but again, I wasn't really moved, but hey at least it happened. When I saw Rosé and Bruno Mars appear and accept their award in-person, I hoped their first performance of Apt to be really live, not prerecorded. Scheduling conflicts be damned, that was the biggest disappointment of the whole show for me. Apt is one of the biggest songs in the world right now, and if they actually performed together, all the idols in attendance would be popping off like they did for BigBang.

Speaking of—I can't express how truly grateful I am to see BigBang in big 2024. Sorry, but I have nothing else to do but glaze how much aura they still have even as three members left (we miss you T.O.P.) There's a reason why every idol and celebrity were actually tweaking and geeking out; their stage presence is immaculate and when the first electronic fart to Bang Bang Bang played, I knew we were in for something truly legendary. It should be an annual tradition at this point to bring back an older legacy act to perform their classics. We had KARA in 2022 and BigBang in 2024 (2NE1 in 2025 perhaps). Legit, I was so lukewarm towards K-pop these past few months, especially with all the controversies going on everywhere else, but they may have singlehandedly revived my enjoyment and love for it, reminding me why I love this genre to begin with.
