rewatching desperate house wives right now and would love to see a little something inspired by gabrielle and carlos?? maybe season 2 when he's in jail and she wants a conjugal visit. just thought it would be fun, love your work!!!
I'M THE GIRL YOU DIE FOR- r.c
pairing: canon!rafe x queenb!kook!reader
of course, you had to be here.
no one else was going to fight for rafe—certainly not that tired, old man, with his cheap suit and receding hairline.
god, you hated this place. the lighting was terrible, the walls a sad, dull beige that screamed "i give up," and the leather chairs were probably fake.
honestly, couldn’t these people at least pretend to have some standards? guess that’s what happens when you’re not the one cutting the checks.
now, instead of champagne and designer brunches, you were spending your afternoons in a hellhole like this. you stood near the chain-link fence, your sunglasses shielding you from the glaring sun.
in the distance, the inmates were out in the yard, working out, talking in groups, smoking—whatever it was they did to kill time.
who thought it was a good idea to have meetings out here? the yard was full of dirt, sweat, and who-knows-what, and the chain-link fence looked like something out of a low-budget crime show. you flicked a piece of lint off your skirt, more for effect than necessity.
maxwell finally showed up, his face blank, like he wasn’t impressed by the outfit you’d spent an hour putting together. whatever. you were here for rafe, not him.
“we need to talk,” you said, tightening the hold on your birkin like it weighed a thousand pounds. it was designer. it probably cost more than his car.
maxwell didn’t even flinch. “about?”
cheap suit, cheap attitude. honestly, if you weren’t so desperate, you’d be done with this idiot by now.
“about my fiancé.” you tilted your head, giving him your best ‘don’t play dumb with me’ look. “we need a conjugal visit. and i need you to make it happen.”
“a conjugal visit?” he said it slow, like you were asking for a miracle.
“yes.” you smiled tightly. “you know, those things where people in prison get to have a little privacy? i want you to get us one.” you rolled your eyes. god, this guy was infuriating. “isn’t that part of your job? to get what we need?”
maxwell raised an eyebrow. “a conjugal visit isn’t part of the deal. rafe’s charges are serious. i’m trying to get your fiancé out of jail, you want me to stop everything just so you can have a booty call?”
he was acting like you were asking for something outrageous.
as if it wasn’t completely reasonable for you to want to see rafe. really see him. after months. this was rafe cameron you were talking about. he had power. you had power. how could this crusty lawyer not understand that?
“i’m not asking, maxwell. i’m telling you. make it happen.”
“i said no.”
you scowled at him, “all we need is an hour. you can’t tell me no! you work for me, you will make it happen.”
he gave a fake sigh, the kind people did when they thought you were being dramatic.
“listen,” he sneered, leaning in slightly. “i’m not your servant. you don’t get to snap your fingers and expect things to just happen. newsflash—your boyfriend is in prison. not some hotel.”
oh, this smug asshole. you were about to really let him have it when a low voice interrupted from behind the fence.
“you got a problem, lady?”
you turned, eyes narrowing as you saw two inmates standing near the fence, both of them massive. tattoos snaked up their arms, and they looked rough. you’d seen them with rafe before.
maxwell glanced back at them, trying to act tough, “excuse me, but this is a private conversation.”
“private? you’re out here talking loud enough for the whole yard to hear. we heard what you said.” he tilted his head toward you, eyes narrowing on maxwell. “sounds like you’re disrespecting cameron’s girl.”
maxwell stammered, suddenly not so confident. “i—i’m just trying to explain that a conjugal visit is complicated. there are rules—”
“we don’t care.”
the second maxwell started running his mouth, you could already tell he had no idea who he was dealing with. he was still trying to act like he had the upper hand, like he was some big-shot lawyer who could push people around. you almost pitied him. almost. but honestly, he deserved what was coming.
“you’re not gonna get away with this,” he snapped, all bravado, puffing out his chest like that was going to make him any less pathetic. “you think you can intimidate me? i’ll have you all locked up for life if you so much as lay a finger on me.”
you rolled your eyes behind your sunglasses. what an idiot.
the bigger inmate—tank, you’d heard people call him—reached through the fence with a broomstick.
you hadn’t even noticed it before, but he must’ve grabbed it from somewhere nearby. he jabbed it into maxwell’s shoulder, not hard enough to really hurt him, but enough to make his point. maxwell jumped back like he’d been electrocuted.
“hey! what the—” he shouted, trying to step out of range, but tank just laughed and poked him again, this time aiming lower, jabbing him in the ribs.
“you don’t make the rules here, old man,” tank sneered, poking him once more, this time a little harder. “you’re gonna learn that the hard way if you don’t shut your mouth. apologize!”
maxwell’s face was turning red now, panic setting in as he tried to dodge the broomstick, but the other guy grabbed the handle, keeping it steady while tank prodded him over and over, relentless.
“i swear to god,” maxwell was screaming now, voice cracking. “i’ll have the guards throw you in solitary! you’ll never see daylight again, i’ll make sure you rot in here!”
the inmates just laughed, like his threats were some kind of joke. and honestly, they were. you watched, arms crossed, completely unbothered, as maxwell flailed, trying to keep his balance while other inmates jabbed other broomsticks at him, from every side, like he was nothing more than a punching bag.
“you hear that, boys?” tank said, grinning as he poked maxwell one more time. “he’s gonna get us locked up for life! like we’re not already in here.” the other inmate burst out laughing. a few more guys started drifting closer to the fence, watching with interest. “apologize!”
maxwell’s face was pure panic now. “stop it!” he screamed, backing up so far he was almost falling over. “i’m serious, i’ll call the warden, i’ll—this is all her fault, if she wasn’t such a goddamn horny b—”
you gasped, insulted, ready to read him to filth but the inmates beat you to it.
“do it,” the second guy sneered, his voice low and threatening. “see if we care. you think we don’t know how to make things happen? you’d be gone before you even got your phone call.”
a few of them started yelling, and jeering, like they were ready to jump in, too. maxwell’s eyes darted around, realizing that this was spiraling out of control.
“you idiots!” he screeched, his voice high-pitched and panicky. “you’ll start a riot! they’ll lock all of you down—no more yard, no more visits, nothing! you’re gonna screw yourselves over!”
but they didn’t care. the guys on the yard were getting riled up now, shouts echoing across the open space. some of them were banging on the fence, rattling it hard enough to make it shake.
“apologize to the lady!”
one of the other inmates reached through the fence, grabbing at his sleeve, yanking him forward. maxwell screamed, struggling to pull away, but the guy held on tight, his grip ironclad.
“come on, boys!” someone yelled from the yard, and suddenly it was like the floodgates had opened. more and more inmates rushed toward the fence, shouting, banging on the metal, some of them reaching through, trying to get a piece of the action, “apologize!”
you adjusted your sunglasses and turned to leave, your heels clicking against the pavement. you hope they kill him for you.
˚୨୧⋆。˚ ⋆˚୨୧⋆。˚ ⋆˚୨୧⋆。˚ ⋆˚୨୧⋆。˚ ⋆˚୨୧⋆。˚ ⋆˚୨୧⋆。˚ ⋆˚୨୧⋆。˚ ⋆˚୨୧⋆。˚ ⋆˚୨୧⋆。˚
you were dressed to the nines, as usual, in a designer dress that probably cost more than what the guards made in a month. even in this drab setting, you looked like you belonged on a yacht, not here, in some depressing room meant for criminals and their girlfriends.
you strutted toward him, your lips glossed to perfection, knowing full well that the bratty smile curling your mouth would drive him insane.
it always did.
rafe was already sitting there, arms crossed, looking as exasperated as you’d ever seen him.
his jaw was clenched, and the muscles there twitched. he was not happy.
you smirked. of course, you weren’t expecting a warm welcome, but at least you got to see him.
“hi, baby,” you purred, batting your lashes as if you weren’t here to make his day harder. “missed me?”
he just stared at you for a moment, pinching the bridge of his nose, eyes squeezed shut like he was trying to find some ounce of patience. then he let out this long, heavy sigh, rubbing his hand down his face before finally looking at you again.
“you—” he started, then stopped, poking his tongue against the inside of his cheek in frustration. “you started a riot because you wanted a conjugal visit?”
you tilted your head innocently, like you didn’t understand why he was so worked up.
“almost,” you corrected, as if that made it any better. “it wasn’t like they actually did anything.” you waved your hand dismissively, the gloss on your lips catching the light as you smiled.
“you—” he stopped, biting the inside of his cheek again, trying to rein it in. he was always like this—prone to temper, to obsession. the need to control everything. especially you. “do you know how close it came to getting out of control? the guards were ready to lock the whole place down. for days. you think that would’ve been good for me, huh?”
you shrugged, not really fazed.
“he was being a dick to me, baby. what was i supposed to do? that lawyer was useless. i wasn’t just going to stand there and let him talk to me like that.”
his eyes dropped to your mouth, unable to resist.
“he was the best lawyer in the fucking county.”
“they clearly need new ones then.”
rafe groaned, trying to keep from losing it completely.
“he almost called me a bitch!”
“were you acting like one?”
“and so what if i was?” you leaned back, crossing your arms, the movement accentuating your designer dress. “he was the one acting like an asshole. he’s lucky i didn’t throw my drink at him. if i’d had one.”
he looked like he was about two seconds away from unleashing his deranged side, rubbing his hand over his face again, like that was going to somehow make all of this disappear.
“you don’t get it, do you? you can’t pull this shit in here, baby. it’s not the fucking outer banks. people don’t just let you get away with whatever you want because you look good and throw money around.”
you rolled your eyes, flipping your hair over your shoulder.
“yeah, well, maybe they should. you don’t see me lowering my standards just because you’re stuck in this dump, do you?” you gestured around the room, your nose wrinkling at the depressing, beige walls. “god, i mean, who chooses these colors? it’s like they want people to lose their minds in here.”
he scoffed, “that’s what you’re worried about? the color of the walls?”
you pouted, “what else was I supposed to do? sit and wait for him to do nothing? ’m not stupid.”
"you're lucky you're even allowed in here after that stunt.”
you gave him a sweet, almost patronizing smile, teeth digging into your lower lip. "aww, baby, are you worried about me?”
"stop," he snapped, "this shit isn’t funny. you think i want to spend the next month in solitary because you couldn't keep your mouth shut?"
you didn’t flinch. in fact, you smiled even wider, enjoying how worked up he was getting.
“don’t be so dramatic. it wasn’t like anything actually happened.”
"you're out there playing power games with people who don't care about you,” he tapped two fingers against his temple, brows slightly raised,“they won’t bow down because you’ve got money or a pretty face."
"maybe not, but they’ll listen if i push hard enough," you said coolly. "and guess what? they did."
he clenched his jaw again, running his hands through his growing hair in frustration. he looked like he was fighting every instinct not to explode.
"you really think you're helping me, don’t you?"
you crossed your legs slowly, adjusting your dress so the fabric draped perfectly. “would you rather have me fuck someone else? y’know… a free man?”
that got a reaction. his eyes flickered with something dangerous, a smirk forming at the corner of his mouth as he leaned in close.
“you wouldn’t.” he whispered, the words laced with venom and amusement at the same time.
your smile turned wicked. “wouldn’t i?”
his fingers twitched on the table, the way they always did when he was seconds away from grabbing you.
“you’re really testing me right now,” he said slowly, his fingers drumming on the metal table between you. "you think ’m stuck in here, so you can play your little games? make me jealous?”
you held his gaze, unbothered, your lips curling into a defiant smile. "’m just reminding you that i have options. ones that aren’t sitting in a prison cell.”
he chuckled darkly, though there was nothing funny about the look in his eyes.
"options, huh?" his voice was edging on borderline strained. "and what makes you think i wouldn't kill any man who even looked at you?"
"you’d have to catch him first, wouldn’t you? and we both know you’re a little… tied up at the moment."
his hand shot out, gripping your lower cheecks with a force that sent you spiriling, remembering how he used to manhandle you anytime he got his hands on you, your faces were almost touching.
his eyes were wild. possession. obsession. the kind of dark love that made you both feel alive.
“you’re mine. no matter where i am, no matter who else you think you can have. you’re mine.”
“then get the stupid conjugal visit,” you hissed through your teeth, “’m horny.”
“’m not asking you. ’m telling you. you don’t have options sweetheart. you never did.”
you felt your pulse quicken.
god, he was insane, but that’s what made it so intoxicating.
he was right. no matter what you said or did, no matter how much you tried to push his buttons, it always came back to one thing: you belonged to him.
“i’ll get you your damn visit,” he continued, his voice dropping lower, “but ’m not doing it because you demanded it. ’m doing it because you need to be reminded of something.” he leaned back, letting go of your face, his fingers printed into your cheeks, keeping his eyes locked on yours, “you’re mine. and i’ll make sure you remember that.”
you rubbed where his grip had been, the throbbing sensation making it clear that he hadn’t lost his touch—he never did.
you grinned as you leaned forward, closing the space between you two again, “i’ll be waiting, baby.”
rafe’s smirk widened, his eyes burning with that possessive glint you knew all too well. there was no escaping him, not that you really wanted to.
“enjoy your time behind bars,” you added, standing up slowly, your movements deliberate, making sure he had a full view of your ass as you walked toward the exit. “maybe i’ll find a way to keep myself busy until you get out.”
he didn’t answer, but you could feel his eyes burning into your back as you left the room.
you knew you were pushing him, playing with fire, but that’s how you both liked it. this was the game you played. you couldn’t wait for him to remind you exactly who you belonged to.

Ranting into the void about Act 3 because I loved it, but episode 9 needed to be two episodes.
Ekko's arc and involvement in the finale was flawless. Phenomenal. Episode 7 was some of the best cinema I've ever had the pleasure of watching, and definitely the best execution of time travel I've ever seen. The 4 seconds limit was a lovely nod to the game.
I was not expecting Heimerdinger to die. Didn't think that was an option. Rip Donger :(
Jayce and Viktor's entire journey was fucking incredible. The whole Glorious Evolution trajectory was so good, but the war against the Evolved needed to span over two episodes. Going from plotting to conclusion in a single episode wasn't the right call. But beginning to end, Jayce has remained one of my favourites, and his conclusion felt right.
I'm overjoyed that Mel got a full arc, and there's no doubt that Riot's next show (if there will be one) will heavily involve Noxus. She's so beautiful. I'm gay. My only complaint is that the Black Rose's involvement felt a bit hasty, and I personally might have struggled to follow the end and Ambessa's death if I didn't have good knowledge of LoL lore and the Vision's intentions. Nonetheless, I'd be ecstatic if Mel made an appearance in any future developments.
Loved the Orianna cameo in the end, especially since she's the only living remnant of the Glorious Evolution. And honestly, I'm fine with Singed's war crimes having a lack of consequence. He played both sides with selfish intent, loyal to his daughter and nobody else.
Sevika being used quite heavily in the marketing of the final act, only to have about 20 seconds of screentime, was unfortunate. Especially since her character is a metaphor for Zaun. If the last act was a bit more fleshed-out, and if she rallied a few more people to beat up the Evolved (maybe with some of the chem barons' henchmen), her arc would have been more opaque. But hey, 4th arm's the charm. Her getting a seat on the council was necessary for a future of a joint city-state.
Maddie betraying Caitlyn wasn't much of a surprise, but it was satisfying to watch unfurl. I thought her proximity to Caitlyn beyond being sexual partners was a bit off. Mel deflecting her bullet was amazing.
Caitlyn was a consistently interesting character. Her leadership skills and flaws made her a joy to watch. The ending with her at the Kiramman computer-like thingy was lovely, because it hinted that Jinx never really died along with the outro shot of the blimp. I just wish the evolution of her relationship with Vi went a bit smoother. Them fucking in the middle of a prison cell after a suicidal Jinx disappeared in front of Vi felt like lazy writing/fan-service, honestly, and I say this as a lesbian. I would have loved a bit more humanity.
Don't have much to say about Vi. Really glad she finally, after how many years, got a short moment to grieve Vander and Powder. But another episode was needed. She got lost in the sauce, which is my only major grievance about the show, because everything began with her and Powder.
Jinx, comparatively, got a satisfying ending. Powder got something of a rebirth, and the hints that she slipped away into the ventilation system and escaped Piltover/Zaun on a blimp gave her justice. Ekko doing all he could to stop her from killing herself wouldn't have achieved much if her arc concluded with her death. Her cutting her hair to resemble Vi's weird mullet nearly made me throw up from joy and sadness. She was the perfect tragedy.
Overall, I'm happy with the conclusion, except for how Vi's character was handled. The show as a whole maintains its status as the best fucking thing I've ever watched. I really hope that if Riot does decide to expand their cinematic universe into another show, they learn from their pacing errors with the Arcane finale. Because Piltover and Zaun are tiny regions in a massive universe, and they got this masterpiece in their honour. Noxus has so much potential. I think the crow at the end and the Black Rose's intertwinement is hinting at this quite heavily. Fingers crossed.

~~~~~~~~~~
-Ray-
Around him, he could hear the echoing of the heavy gunfire he was currently in the middle of. It sounded like he was in a hollowed tunnel making it easy to hear every sound. The crunching of footsteps that were attempting to stealthily creep toward him, failing miserably by his military training standards, the zing, and whizz of every missed bullet, the painful beat of his heart that was slowing with every minute.
A strong pang of pain gripped him making him curse out. He clapped his hand over his chest and grimaced. He didn't know how he would make it out of this one. All his life he'd lived by the gun and knew he'd die by it too but somehow he didn't expect it now. He thought he'd be old and grey before that bullet with his name on it punched his ticket.
He slid his hand lower just underneath his heart and felt wetness there. When he raised his fingers to his face the crimson liquid that coated his fingers confirmed it. A heavy sigh escaped his lips as he dropped his head back to look into the sky. It was yet another beautiful California day. He knew it was a hot one but couldn’t quite feel the warmth of the sun anymore. A shiver rushed through him then he heard his name.
“Merrimen, it doesn’t have to be like this. You’ve got nowhere to go. Come out with your hands up!”
He scoffed. That son of a bitch, he thought. If he really expected him to come out and surrender he hadn’t read his file properly.
“Never surrender,” he mumbled feeling the drowsiness trying to overtake him.
Shaking it off, he wiped his hands dry then gripped his weapon. Checking the chamber, he realized his clip was empty. With slow, painful movement he dug into his vest searching for his ammo but found none.
“Sh—shit!”
He was truly fucked. Either he was going to be cuffed and saved at the hospital then sent back or he would die a free man, right here, right now. It only took him a few moments to make his mind up. He meant every word he’d said a week ago. He was never going back to prison. He took several breaths trying to psych himself up for the next round of pain he would feel. No man wanted to face death but he’d long prepared for his death. He didn’t fear it.
Suddenly, her face popped into his mind making him freeze. He’d often thought of her. Every night her face somehow wandered in through the slips of his mental blocks, the ones he’d purposely put up in heavy efforts to not think about her. In those wee hours of the morning, while he laid in his bunk surrounded by other men in their 9 by 5 cells doing the same, he’d think about her. Since his release from prison, he’d thought of her more and more as people, places and things often brought back memories, good and bad.
He heard the thud of footsteps creeping up on his right and they brought him back to reality. Pretty soon he’d stop thinking about her completely. Maybe in death, he could finally get peace.
“Nut up!”
He rose to his feet then turned to where he knew that Detective Nick was waiting. He came face to face with the man aiming his weapon right at him.
“Don’t do it Merrimen!”
He waited.
“We can end this peacefully. It doesn’t have to end this way.”
His vision blurred and his heartbeat slowed. “I told you—I’m not going back.”
The man across the way clenched his jaw and he almost saw a look of disappointment across his features, but he didn’t wait. He raised his empty gun knowing he’d take the shot, truly ending this.
“Don’t!”
Suddenly, rapid gunfire rained around him sending the man jumping to seek cover while he dropped back. Chaos reigned around him in the form of three white vans rolling up creating a “U” shape shield around him. His mind recognized it as an operational defensive tactic, one he’d done in his years of service. Again, his eyes went blurry as his heart slowed. Gripping his chest, he focused on the sky trying to get himself in control so he could make sense of the situation and defend himself if needed.
“Secure the perimeter. We’re out of here in one minute!”
The voice was garbled like he was underwater, and they were above it. He grabbed his gun and pointed it forward making contact with a chest. The figure above him was masked with only their eyes revealed.
“I got you. ‘Till the end imma ride wit’ you.”
Recognition flamed in his head. He’d heard those words before. He’d said those words before. Only one other person in the world would ever utter them. He froze but before he could move again, he lost consciousness with those eyes being the last thing he saw.
~~~~~~~~
-Aria-
“What a fucking mess!”
Milla was pissed. One thing she hated was a sloppy op and what Ray had found himself in the middle of was a sloppy op.
“From the stories about this guy never thought he’d be part of something like this.”
“Shit went sideways,” Jada replied.
“Hey! Fucking focus on getting us the fuck out of LA and to the fucking jet!”
If Milla was pissed, you were downright seething. She was right, it was a sloppy op and shit had gone sideways. Fuck they went way past sideways. You made a mental note that you’d find Donnie’s ass and put two bullets through his skull for this bullshit.
“Apply more pressure!”
You, Uki, Keturah, and Lyn were each pressing on each bullet wound in an attempt to slow the bleeding. Your efforts seemed pointless as his blood poured out of him like a calcified showerhead.
It was a good thing you got there when you had. As you pushed harder on his chest, you stared into his face. You didn’t know how it was possible, but he looked the same given some wrinkles here and there. His face was the same but weathered, aged to that of a grown man. Your heart beat painfully thinking of how serious his condition currently was.
“Aria, I don’t know if he’ll make it,” Uki announced.
Your eyes snapped to her and in the same second that they made contact, she looked down.
“I’m just saying. His vitals are not good,” you mumbled not wanting to be the bearer of bad news.
“He’ll make it!”
The entire van went quiet. You hadn’t meant to scream at her, so you took a breath and looked back to Ray, and repeated your words in a calmer voice.
“He’ll make it. He’s lived through worse.”
The remainder of the drive passed in near silence. Except for updates from the other vans and checking in to confirm perfect execution of your plan and distraction no one else said anything that wasn’t mission specific. You split your focus between the next steps of the plan and keeping Ray alive. You’d estimated that the drive to the airfield would take 40 minutes and in those 40 minutes, he’d flatlined twice. You were glad that you were the type of person to bet on things going wrong. It was that foresight that found a mini hospital in every van.
With Uki’s help, you managed to bring Ray back every time he flat-lined with the aid of adrenaline and a defibrillator. Each time took longer but you refused to give up. It wasn’t his time; you’d make damn sure of it.
“Offload,” Keturah shouted as the van rolled to a stop.
Everyone sprang into action, tackling their tasks. Milla and Keturah handled stripping the van, and Lyn took care of erasing every bit of artillery so there would be not even a serial number left on anything left behind. You, Jada, and Uki lifted Ray to the waiting jet.
“Fuck he’s heavy!”
He sure was and from the looks of him, it was pure muscle. Prison had changed him. The two men in the jet hurried to help load him in.
“Let’s go. 40 seconds!”
Just then, the van went up in flames. As if that was the signal, all your femme fetales assembled and boarded the jet. Within a minute you were taking off. As the jet gained altitude the van on the ground exploded leaving flames, shards, and nothing else in your wake.
~~~~~~~
-That Night-
All was quiet, which was what you expected. This was your compound in Mexico, and it was heavily guarded. Only those who needed to know knew about it. You watched as the doctor finished his examination of your hurried work in the van and the jet. You’d had more than enough experience patching yourself and others up to know your work was sufficient, but you wanted to make sure you got all the shards out. You didn’t go through all this to have a bullet fragment sneak to his heart.
You sat on the window seat then continued tapping your combat boot-clad feet. The sound echoed in the room as dull thuds for several minutes before you sprang to your feet again to pace the room some more.
“You’ve never been anxious like this with anyone else,” Manolo said his voice filled with certainty. “Losing faith in my skill?”
“No. He’s just--not—anyone.”
He looked back at you and studied your face for a few moments then turned back to a still unconscious Ray. Manolo nodded then stood.
“Well, I think you turned a pretty horrible situation into a bad one, which is an improvement and impressive.”
“Will he make it?”
Manolo sighed and took his time before he spoke. The seconds that stretched only made you more anxious. You were milliseconds away from snapping at the man, but his voice stopped your outburst.
“It’s hard to say. His injuries are extensive. From what I can see you’ve got all the bullets and I don’t see any fragments so that’s good news, but I’ve seen men die from injuries less severe than these. It’s a miracle he is still alive.”
“What—what does that mean Manolo?!”
Your frustrations were getting the better of you now.
“I know you want a guarantee, but I can’t give one. If he—if he can make it the next 72 hours then I say his chances are very good but--.”
He took off his glasses and pinched the bridge of his nose. His grey-speckled hair was coiffed in an effortless style that framed his face and showcased the wrinkles he'd acquired from years of work and little sleep. He and your father were good friends and one on the very short list of people he trusted, which meant you trusted him too.
“The next 72 hours I expect to be touch and go.”
You sighed and then looked at Ray. It wasn’t a death sentence, but it wasn’t a glowing bill of health. There was hope at least.
“Thank you, Manolo,”
He nodded then looked back to Ray. “I will stay close tonight in case you need me again.”
You nodded and watched him pack his things up to then exit the room. For the first time since you'd laid eyes on him, you were alone together. Half of you was relieved he was unconscious so you didn't have to talk but the other half wanted more than anything for him to wake up even if it spelled trouble for you.
You stood across the room for so long that the bottoms of your feet burned. It had been a long day and even longer 48 hours in prep for his extraction. Your body was exhausted, but sleep wasn’t an option. There was no way you could sleep now. Slowly you walked to his bedside never taking your eyes off of his face. you trailed over every detail of his face. Every wrinkle, every mole, every hair, everything that you’d missed out on. Your body buzzed to get closer, palms itched to touch him. The urges were so powerful that the exhaustion in your body was so strong that you gave in.
Sitting at the edge of the bed you slowly reached your hand to his full beard however when you were centimeters from touching him your hand stopped. Fear stilled your actions dousing whatever urges you had moments before. Looking lower at his torso, you decided to clean him instead of putting yourself in a position where things would quickly escalate.
As you wiped away the dried blood and sweat from his body your mind drifted to admiring what you now confirmed without a doubt was heaviness from muscle. For the love of everything holy, he was built like all he did in prison for those 10 years was pump iron. You tried not to think of the pictures you’d gotten over the last week of him disappearing into the blonde dancer’s house time and time again. You tried not to think of the things that happened behind that door that your cameras couldn’t get into.
Though you tried to keep the thoughts at bay, when you got to his “Peckerwood” tattoo you couldn’t help but drift to how she touched him, how he found solace after 10 years without in her body.
“Fuck!”
You threw the rag down into the water ignoring how it cascaded over the rim and onto the wooden floors. You stood, wiped your hands, and took a safer seat, across the room where your view of his body wasn’t clear.
Knock-knock
“Come.”
In walked a cleaned-up Uki with a tray. She placed it on the table near your chair then stood there watching Ray just as you were.
“Manolo told us.”
You nodded.
“I can take first watch so you can get cleaned up,” she offered.
You didn’t answer. In truth, you barely heard her.
Knock-knock.
“Come.”
Jada and Lyn came in next and stood to your left adding their two pairs of eyes to Ray.
“Found you some clothes,” Jada breached.
“Team 2 and 3 made it home without any problems after initiating endgame. Right about now they should have an ID on the body from the fire and that ID will be a one hundred percent match for 1 Mr. Ray Merrimen,” Lyn informed.
You released a slow breath as the final piece of your plan seamlessly synced with the others laid before it. That was it then.
“Come in Keturah,” you called before the knock you knew was coming sounded.
They all snorted as Keturah walked in and approached the bed getting a good look at Ray.
“Still can’t believe this famous Ray turned out to be a white man oh.”
That was just what everyone needed to hear before they busted out laughing. It went on for so long that you felt the stress that your body had harvested slowly leave you. You looked around at your girls. They’d been with you through thick and thin and you trusted them with your life. They were always there for you, and you were more than grateful.
“He might be a well-seasoned white man,” Lyn added which made them holler with laughter.
You’d expected their teasing once they saw him in person. You’d prepared yourself for all of this. In fact, you were enjoying their teasing. You’d been tense for so long it felt good to breathe for a change. You rotated your head trying to ease your sore muscles.
“You should eat, then shower. I know you’ll hate it if he sees you for the first time looking like you spent 3 nights in a hot hut.”
You pressed the back of your hand to your cheek. “I don’t look that bad.”
“Ya’ look worse,” they all collectively said.
Your jaw dropped but they only laughed more. The six of you sat around the room and chatted as you ate the meal Uki brought in. With each passing minute, you felt more and more like yourself. In the back of your mind, your fears and anxieties were still raging but they were quieted enough that you could celebrate small victories. After, Uki stayed by Ray’s side as you showered and made yourself less of a mess.
With your mind calm that Uki was around, and Manolo was in the house you took the time to pamper yourself a little. The hot water did the job of a pair of well-trained hands and melted away the knots in your shoulders and back while the scents from the diffuser worked on your mood and stress. You’d jumped over one hurdle and there were two more waiting for you, the final one was waiting for you at home.
When you went back into the room Ray was still unconscious and Uki was there on her phone.
“Ah, you look and smell a lot better.”
“Girl shut up!”
“Seriously, you look better.”
You nodded then sighed. “I’m holding up.”
“I just got word from Junu, and he is livid.”
You nodded. It was expected. You knew this whole operation would upset him especially since he’d vehemently forbade it.
“I’ll take the blame and whatever punishment he dishes out. You guys will be safe.”
“While your father terrifies me, I won’t let you be punished alone.”
“You all were just following my orders. I will take the heat.”
Uki studied you then looked back to Ray. “Is he worth it?”
She didn’t just mean the punishment you’d take but the risk and danger. You looked at Ray and slowly approached him. You knew the answer without a shadow of a doubt.
“Till the end!”
Seconds later you heard the click of the door as it closed. You were again alone with him. This time you dragged the chair closer and sat back down hunkering down for a sleepless night.
~~~~~~~~
You awoke to heavy shuddering and grunting. You’d only closed your eyes for a moment, or so you thought. However now, Ray was seizing in the bed, body riddled with violent thrashing.
“Shit, Ray!”
You moved to the edge of the bed and noted the way his body was drenched with sweat. Once you touched him you pulled back, he was burning up.
“Shit!”
You leaped up, grabbed the bowl beside the bed, and sprinted to the bathroom to fill it with cold water. When you returned you wasted no time applying the cold wet cloth to his forehead. When his seizing intensified you hollered for help as you turned him onto his side. With one hand you took up another cloth, dipped it into the water, and placed it in his mouth so he wouldn’t bite down on his tongue. It was then the girls ran into the room in a panic.
“Get Manolo. He’s seizing and has a fever.”
“On it,” Jada shouted before she disappeared.
The others approached the bed and tried to help you keep him on the bed and wipe him down. In what felt like a lifetime Jada returned with Manolo who sprang into action. He took your spot and administered an injection into the IV he’d placed when he first got here.
“This will help the seizure.”
Within minutes Ray’s convulsions slowed until they stopped altogether. Manolo then injected another needle into the IV.
“This will bring down the fever. He’s more than likely fighting off an infection. I already gave him something for that.”
“What do we do?”
“Nothing. We wait. I know you hate that answer, but I don’t have a better one. He has to do the work now.”
After thirty minutes of monitoring, Manolo left again satisfied that the seizure did not return. After that, you didn’t dare fall asleep again. Every thirty minutes you wiped his body with cold cloths and bundled him tighter, so he felt some warmth. By the time the sun rose the next day, he hadn’t gotten any better and your stress returned tenfold. He couldn’t be moved in this state, so your flight home was delayed until he made it through the other end of this.
The day passed with each of you sitting with him making sure his fever was kept in check and his seizures were managed. He fared well during the day but when the sun disappeared his seizures returned and persisted for much of the night. By the 2nd night there he’d begun spitting up blood. Manolo was hours away from making the choice to take him to a hospital when the sun rose on the third day and with that new day came calm.
“I think he’s passed the worst of it,” Manolo said as he took his glasses off after his very thorough examination.
“Are you sure?”
“His vitals are much better. Heartrate is not quite normal yet but considering he was close to losing a lung he is doing well.”
“Why hasn’t he woken up yet?”
“Well, I induced a temporary coma to help him heal. I’ve started to wean him off so the medication I put him on should leave his system within the day. Perhaps tomorrow he’ll come to.”
“Will he live Manolo?”
“If this continues and he comes out of this tomorrow I feel good about his chances.”
You rubbed your face pressing just a bit so the tension would go.
“Thank goodness.”
“If all progresses, you should be good to fly the day after tomorrow.”
“Thank you, Manolo.”
“Aria, you’re like family. I’d do anything for you,” he said placing his hand on your shoulder. “You should rest.”
You nodded knowing those were doctor’s orders you wouldn’t be following. Not yet.

-The Next Day-
You were sitting by Ray's bedside once again after another sleepless night. Uki's question had been playing over and over in your mind like an annoying one-hit wonder that you couldn't forget. The longer you sat with the question the more it warped. No, your answer hadn't changed but you began to wonder if he would also say the same.
The last 10 years or so couldn't have been easy. No one thrived in prison. The environment wasn't conducive to that. The system needed a change if it was tasked with reforming wrongdoers. You knew being inside chipped away pieces of who you were before going in so you knew he was hardened. What you worried about was; how hardened was he. Was there any bit of the person you'd known? Or was this man laying at death's door a stranger with a monster lurking within
Knock-Knock
“Come.”
You tried to make yourself look like you hadn't been hyper-fixated on watching the man before you all night, tried to look detached and nonchalant.
“You look like shit.”
“For fuck's sake Uki!”
“What? If I looked as bad as you, one of you better keep it real and tell me the same,” she replied as she put down another tray.
“Guess you're expecting a thank you for telling me I look like shit?”
Uki shrugged and crossed her arms as she took her place beside you.
“Fuck thank you. Just tell me you know and I'm right. That's my love language,” she joked.
However, it wasn't a joke. She did love being right. She got off on it. She constantly wore a smug look across her beautiful flawless features. It was as if she always walked with an air about her that she was higher than those around her. To tell the truth, it was one of the reasons you gravitated to one another and formed a quick friendship when you were children.
As The Viper's only daughter and heir, you knew you were above them in rank and status, and while most would relish the fact it always suffocated you. Being at the top of the food chain put you on a whole different playing field and on that field, you always had a target on your back.
“We may have trouble.”
Your head snapped to her waiting for her to continue. Of course you did, it had been way too calm and quiet.
“Razu,” Uki muttered.
Her one-word response didn't need to be followed up with anything else. You sighed so heavily that it almost sounded like the danger declaring hiss of the creature your father got his name from. Everyone knew you didn't disturb vipers; it was a “duh” rule in the animal kingdom. Do not disturb the vipers and never disturb the den. Razu was the one who never quite understood the unspoken rule.
“Where is he?”
“Downstairs with an entitled look on his face. He demands to see you.”
That almost hiss came out and filled the room this time.
“He heard whispers of you going to America and wants to talk about why.”
“Why? Ha, do I answer to him now oh?!”
Uki sighed and shrugged. “Seeing how he is…”
“Finish that sentence and we will have a serious discussion on how much of my coming punishment you will be taking.”
Uki zipped her lips with her fingers and allowed the silence to stretch.
“If he heard whispers then he probably suspects something. Our people in Los Angeles probably tipped him off.”
Your eyes slipped back to Ray. Shit, you thought.
Another near hiss escaped you.
“Yep. Either he is here to confirm his suspicions and try to use it as his proof you are not fit to take over on your own or--.”
“Ipenija is iku,”{challenge to the death},” you finished.
“Yep.”
“Fuck! There is no way Ray can do a challenge right now.”
“No. This white meat would be dead meat,” Uki teased.
“Really Uki? Right now?”
She smiled then shrugged again. She was right though. You had to make sure Razu found nothing. You reached into the bedside drawer and took out your 3 guns then checked the chambers. Locked, loaded, and ready for action. You tucked one in the front waistband of your jeans and the other in the back. You then took up your thigh holster from where it hung on one of the posts of the bed. Rather than bringing along the third gun you left it on the bedside table and patted your arsenal of knives loaded on the contraption. It was time to remind Razu who you were and who he was not.
Before you walked out of the room you looked back at Ray once more then hardened your features and resolve. Once you walked into the large living room of the opulent hacienda-style property you found Razu sitting in the largest seat in the room which was made from a slew of precious materials. One leg was crossed over the other with his ankle resting atop his knee and in his hands he played with a machete.
Your femme fetales assembled behind you in an arrowhead formation, the five of them flanking each other’s left and right. With his tamed beard, dark and smooth skin, and dangerous eyes Razu slowly broke out into a toothy smile.
“Come on Aria. I am not the enemy no need for the famous formation.”
His voice was smooth and silky like a goading predator slinking its way around to find an opening.
“I don't know Razu. You come unannounced--.”
“And unwelcomed,” Keturah added.
Razu's eyes turned to slits as he glared at Keturah.
“I suggest you keep your femmes in line or something fatal will happen to one of the pretty bitches,” Razu said.
You pulled your guns with quickness and closed the space between you to then press one gun to his temple and the other under his chin.
“Say one more fucking word about or to my femmes and the only fatal thing happening is your death by fatality. One hair on any of their heads is worth so much more than your entire existence. So, tread very, very carefully.”
The fire is Razu's eyes blazed uncontrollably. You saw how badly he wanted to speak again and retaliate but the facts were simple. You were your father's daughter. His empire would be yours soon and no matter how badly Razu wanted it he would never get it. Not by challenge, not by infiltration, and definitely not by arranged marriage.
The fire in his eyes faded and a smile spread across his face.
“Easy Aria, I simply came to make sure you were all right. The dens in LA heard you were in town. They said a lot was shaken up and the dens had to close up ranks to stay off the radar.”
You pulled back and walked back to your girls who hadn't moved an inch. They knew you were more than capable of taking care of Razu. Once in place, you spoke.
“Did your spies actually see me in LA or are they spreading false rumors?”
“Rumors? So, you weren't in LA?”
“Are you questioning me Razu? It sounds like you are but I am sure I am wrong because in order to be remotely qualified to do that, you have to be someone higher than me. Right girls?”
They each replied with confirmation. Razu's jaw clenched tightly and you knew just how badly he wanted to lash out. Smiling you watched him struggle. This was fun. It had been a while since you had fun and you realized how much you missed this.
“Why is it always rank with you?”
“Because you forget your fucking place! You are merely a sergeant in this den. One of many. You do not question me, you do not threaten me, and you definitely do not demand of me.”
“Your safety is important,” Razu carefully added.
“My safety? Do I look unsafe?”
You turned to your friends so they could inspect.
“You look safe to me,” Lyn said.
“Sure do,” Jada added
“Picture of health,” Milla chimed in.
You turned back to Razu. “I feel safe so I say you have nothing to worry about.”
Razu stared you down clearly upset this wasn't turning out the way he wanted. When you cocked your head to the side and then nudged it toward the exit Razu grumbled but stood.
“I'll head home and tell The Viper that baby Viper is doing well in Mexico.”
Your father didn't know where you were right now and you knew that Razu still suspected you had gone to the States which meant his reporting your current whereabouts would imply you had in fact been in the States. You kept your face unreadable.
“You do that. You'd just be giving him news he already knew, but whatever.”
You shrugged then examined your nails playing up how unbothered you were. As Razu walked toward the front door he chuckled.
“I'll see you at home, little Viper.”
No one moved until you heard the door close. Before they spoke you walked out of the room across the estate.
“Have them scour that room for bugs. I don't trust Razu.”
Milla nodded and walked off to get it done.
“He has definitely overstepped his bounds,” Lyn said.
“He sure has but he just revealed he has spies within our dens. I am sure my father would love to know that.”
The only great threat to queens were peasants thinking they were smarter. Your father ran a tight ship and usually got rid of those who had the balls to have big ideas. Razu's days were numbered.
“If he is going home now then he will be sure to paint a horrible picture before you arrive. We should leave tonight,” Uki proposed.
She made sense and it was probably the best move. Only 2 things were wrong. Ray was still not out of the woods yet and if you went back in a hurry Razu would know you were afraid of something.
“Have someone watch Razu until he leaves. I want to know if he so much as pisses and it's not yellow.”
You walked away up the stairs while putting the safety back on your guns and repositioning them in the waistband of your jeans. Halfway back to the bedroom where Ray was—your bedroom you had a thought that if you took Razu out here and now When you walked inside he was still lying on the bed which was a relief and disappointment all at once. You were glad Razu hadn't tried to lure you downstairs to have his men search the house, but more worried Ray was still unconscious. You knew the longer he remained so the worse his prognosis.
You pressed your back to the door and took some deep breaths and tried to push the annoyance of Razu out of your head. Every day your list of problems increased. You felt the stinging prickle of tears behind your eyes. They were tears you’d held in for so long, tears you didn’t dare shed, tears you knew would find their way down your cheeks one way or another.
You walked across the room to the side of the bed and peered down at Ray. His bandaged wounds were speckled with bright red blood reminding you how close he’d come to dying. The even rise and fall of his chest said his breathing was evened out and he was probably not in too much danger. You sat at the edge of the bed as the urge to touch him became stronger than ever. You brought your hand closer and closer to the tattoo swooped across his chest. Your eyes locked on the ‘A’ within the ‘KingHarbor’ tattoo and within seconds you could make something else written there.
You leaned closer and closer bringing your face right over his chest and it was then you saw it. Hidden within the ‘A’ was your name. Aria.
“No fucking way,” you whispered.
You turned to the nightstand ready to switch on the lamp for more light but an empty tabletop caught your eye. The cock of the gun and the warm press to your forehead said you’d caught it too late.
“Back—the fuck—up!”
You huffed a breath out half relief half annoyance. Slowly you moved back.
“Who the fuck are you?”
You turned to face him and saw the moment recognition hit him. The stone-cold set of his face turned to wide-eyed disbelief.
“A—Aria?”
“It’s me, Ray.”
Your voice was small. You hadn’t meant for it to be at all, but it was, small and timid. Ray’s expression went from disbelief to blazing fury. You brought your eyes to the gun still pressed to your forehead.
“You’re gonna shoot me with my own gun huh.”
“I can think of a reason or two why I should,” Ray gritted out through clenched jaws.
You could hear the pain in his voice. Sighing, you shook your head. You weren’t afraid of him.
“Put the gun down, Ray.”
“Like hell I will.”
You glared at each other for long moments. You got lost in the amount of hatred you saw in his eyes. He’d never looked at you like this before, never pressed a gun to your head either. You sighed again then used the move he taught you to unarm him. However, he did not let you have your way instead, he grabbed your wrist pulled you to him, and attempted to swivel you so he could put you in a chokehold. Evading the move, you in turn swung your legs over him and sat on his thighs.
“Stop! You’re going to bust your stitches!”
Ray didn’t listen. He still fought you as if he didn’t have three bullet holes in his body.
“Ray!”
He reached for the knives in your thigh holster but you grabbed his arm instead. When he tried to use his other hand to reach for your gun you stopped him. That was when the door banged open and your Femmes rushed in guns and chosen weapons drawn to see you straddling him and holding his wrists. It looked kinky.
“Uh—didn’t waste any time huh,” Milla teased.
Ray yanked his arm away then rammed the heel of his palm into your gut. He hadn’t used all his force, but he’d used enough to send you to the foot of the bed. The action took you by surprise and stole the wind from your lungs. Your femmes cocked and raised their guns and weapons.
“Stand down,” you choked out.
Ray laid there looking at the six of you as if he didn’t trust any of you and was expecting one or all of you to make a move any second.
“Are you okay?”
You raised to your feet then rested your hands over your knee while you tried to catch your breath.
“Fine.”
“You let him catch you off guard?”
You glared at Uki.
“Didn’t expect him to—pull my own gun on me.”
“Where the fuck am I and what the fuck is going on?”
“Thu, what a way to speak to the people who you owe your life to,” Lyn spat.
“What’re you talking about?”
Your eyes fell to the bandages that were speckled red before. Now they were soaked with his blood.
“Shit, you busted the stitches,” you said making a move to him.
Ray lurched back. “Stay away from me!”
“If I do that you’ll bleed out and after everything we did to keep you alive, I’ll be pretty pissed about it.”
He surveilled you then the other five women in the room trying to gauge the level of trust he could muster in this moment.
“If we wanted to kill you, we would have stayed in our country while your so-called heist went all the way to shit,” Jada said.
“What the fuck does that mean?”
You looked at Jada slightly annoyed she brought it up already.
“Later.”
“No, now!”
“The heist went south. Enson, Bosco, they’re all dead,” you carefully broke.
“Wh—what!?”
“Donnie ran a play in your heist. He knew all the players set it up with them and used you guys as the muscle. He set you up to take the heat and fall so he could take the money. Nick knew everything from him. Your life is burned. They shot the others and Nick would have got you too if we hadn’t gotten there in time,” you explained ripping off the rest of the band-aide.
His face was blank as he processed your words then the rage returned.
“Donnie that motherfucker!”
“That he is.”
Silence filled the room and slowly you got closer and closer to him. Once close enough you sat on the edge of the bed.
“Your only option now is to disappear and by disappear I mean dead man disappear,” you finished.
“Why the fuck should I trust you?”
It was a fair question.
“She risked her fucking life to save yours. She did all this for you!”
You looked back to your girls and shook your head hoping to disengage the situation.
“It’s okay guys, wait outside.”
“So he can try something? Like hell,” Jada voiced.
“He has three bullet holes in him. I’m sure I can take him.”
They nodded knowing you could then one by one exit the room. When it was just the two of you, you opened your mouth to speak but Ray beat you to it.
“You should leave too.”
“You’re bleeding. Let me redress those then I’ll go.”
He took a few moments to contemplate your words then nodded. You kept your actions slow and careful as you got closer then took off the soaked bandages. When you wiped at the wounds he barely flinched or made a sound. You could feel his eyes boring into you keeping an eye on every move you made. You knew he didn’t trust you and you understood completely.
With needle and thread in hand, you began stitching him again. Still, Ray remained quiet the whole time he watched you. Whenever you reached for something you felt him tense underneath you even more than when you worked. Was he really that leery of you?
“Where am I?”
“Mexico.”
He scoffed. “Mexico. Is this where you’ve been living it up in a Mexican hacienda?”
“Living it--,” you began but trailed off. Before you spoke again, you scoffed. “No.”
“Right. Is this your place?”
“It—belongs to my father.”
You peeped up and met his eyes and instantly regretted it. His eyes were cold, dead, and filled with anger.
“And those women? Who are they?”
You tied off the thread then reached for the alcohol bottle on the side table.
“This is going to hurt.”
In your other hand, you took up the tequila there and held it out to him.
“No. Go ahead,” Ray said not even trying to hide the distrust in his eyes.
You shrugged and took a chug from the tequila bottle then poured the alcohol. You watched Ray stiffen as the burn rushed through him. The veins in his neck and forehead pulsated just beneath his skin, his face got redder and the muscles all across his torso flexed and bulged giving you a show for the first time how much he'd changed. Before you right now was a very grown man, a very gorgeous grown man, a man you probably didn't know anymore. His groan cane out agonized and tight. Wanting to help you leaned forward and blew onto the freshly stitched and taut skin hoping to provide some relief for him.
You kept your eyes level with his chest and focused on blowing in a way that kept the air coming from you cool. You took up the cloth and dabbed the excess antiseptic from his bruised flesh taking care to be gentle the closer you got to his wounds. You happened to glance up and found his eyes on you. The anger in his eyes was gone as was the right clench of his jaw. He looked as if he were in some sort of trance. You didn't stop blowing but moved for the wound salve waiting to be applied on the table. Slowly, you spread some across each bullet wound. With every touch, Ray sucked in a breath like a startled gasp. You didn't know if it was entirely from the pain he had to have been on or something else.
By the time you taped down a few thick squares of gauze, the door banged open.
“Ah, you're awake. Good,” Manolo exclaimed. “How is he, Aria?”
“He busted open his stitches so I did the whole song and dance and voila,” you explained.
“It looks good. How do you feel amigo?”
“Who are you?”
“The doctor who helped save your life,” Manolo dryly said.
“This is Manolo. I've known him most of my life. He's a good doctor and an even better man,” you informed as you moved from his side to rinse your hands in the bowl of water beside the bed.
“How do you feel?”
“Like I've been shot.”
“Oh, my friend you have been…3 times. One of them was centimeters from your lung, another a hair from puncturing your heart. Jeez, I don't know which angel you have looking out for you but I need her.”
Manolo approached him and began taking his vitals, you sifted to the back of the room to watch on. Ray's eyes slipped from you to Manolo then back to you as if he expected either of you to make a move against him. Was this because of you or had prison made him this way? Milla slipped inside and came to stand beside you. She now had Ray's full attention. With her voice low, she spoke.
“Razu has men watching the hacienda from all directions. If we plan on leaving without him knowing there is only one option.”
You nodded and locked eyes with Ray.
“Is he ready to move Manolo?”
“He’s a walking miracle. I think he's good to fly.”
“I'm not going anywhere with you people.”
All eyes moved to him each with different emotions radiating from them. You sighed.
“Do you think you have a choice?”
Ray narrowed his eyes at Milla's question.
“Yeah, I do. I don't know you from Adam.”
“What else do you need to know besides I--.”
The door opened and the rest of your Femmes walked in and flanked your side assuming formation without even realizing it.
“We saved your life,” Milla continued.
“Enough. This is Milla, Lyn, Jada, and Uki. These are my Femme Fetales, you explained.
“Femme Fetales? What's with the name?”
“Let's hope you never have to find out,” Keturah slid in.
“If you don't come with us, what's your plan? Go back to LA? Wander around alone? Get into some more shit with some more untrustworthy fucks?”
“Those were my brothers! And now they're fucking gone!”
“I know and I know what a deep cut that is. I know you're angry but being angry doesn't mean you have to be stupid. I don't think you get it. Right now your only option is to disappear. No, returning to LA, no lone wolf shit.”
He studied you and you could see the storm of emotions swirling inside of him. He was rightfully angry. His world shifted yet again. When he didn't speak for a few minutes you sighed again.
“Well stay one more night, give you some time to think it over. If tomorrow you decide you still don't want to go with us then fine. You be on your way and we'll be on ours no questions no debates.”
“Aria,” Uki began but you held your hand up to stop her.
“Everyone out.”
“Would you like something for the pain?”
Ray shook his head and watched everyone pour out of the room one by one. When it was just you, he raised a brow.
“You too.”
You scoffed having half expected it. As you walked to the door he watched you. Before leaving you looked back at him.
“The windows have sensory alarms so they’re sensitive to touch and movement, you’re also three stories up. Patrol outside might miss you if you jump but the perimeter patrol won’t. You’re free to leave but use the front door. It’s safest. Say goodbye first.”
“Like you did?”
For the second time, you felt as if you’d been kicked in the gut and gotten the wind knocked out of you. Low blow, you thought as you nodded and left him. Pressing your back to the door you took several calming breaths and then walked down the hall to the kitchen. You needed a drink—bad!
~~~~~~~
-The Next Day-
“Did you sleep at all?”
You scoffed as you filled your coffee cup with freshly brewed Pu-erh tea. With the sleep you hadn’t been getting and the day ahead that you foresaw, you desperately needed it.
“Sleep? Don’t know her.”
Keturah snorted and shook her head. “I don’t know how you do it.”
You took a lengthy sip from the cup and moaned. “God that’s good.”
“Morning workout?”
“Just a little meet-up with the punching bag.”
“Ah, is this aggression release or sexual tension release?”
You snorted and shook your head before you took another sip from your mug.
“He is ripped, Aria.”
“That he is.”
“He is also a distrustful ingrate,” she added.
You laughed.
“The only reason he is getting a pass is because his friends are gone and he almost died.”
“He doesn’t trust me,” you solemnly said.
You could wallow in it, matter of fact you had already. The entire night you wallowed and sulked because his distrust of you was so evident, so strong that it tore you apart. You’d wallowed until you were at dirt level. Now, in the light of morning, you couldn’t afford to anymore.
“You sure he’s still up there?”
“If he can plan to break into the reserve and steal millions of dollars I am sure he can manage to sneak out of somewhere without raising alarms,” you said.
“Legend,” Keturah muttered.
He sure was. If Donnie hadn’t been a little asshole this heist would have gone down as an incredible legend. It was practically flawless. As Keturah filled you in on any new developments you flitted around the kitchen to put together some breakfast for him. The others rolled into the kitchen and brought you up to date with the new developments but then the conversation shifted to plans and prep to leave. When you gave the go-ahead to get ready to take off in an hour, you walked out with a tray full of food on your way to Ray’s room.
As you stood outside you contemplated if you should just try the door or knock first. You reached for the handle, turned, and cocked your head to the side when you realized it was open. With caution, you walked inside and found Ray walking out of the bathroom, shirtless with a towel hung low around his waist. What was air? You no longer knew because it ceased to enter your lungs. Your jaw hung open and eyes roamed all the skin on display. You remembered Keturah’s words from minutes ago and though you’d agreed then, those words were now your gospel. He was ripped like no one’s business.
“Holy shit,” you mumbled.
“No knock?’
You met his eyes then realized what you were doing. “Ehm. Sorry. I uh—I honestly didn’t expect you to still be in here.”
“You and me both,” Ray answered.
“Well, I brought you poison-free breakfast. Freshly made and still hot.”
You placed the tray on the bed then backed up when you felt him walking toward the food. He looked over the tray then at you then back at the food. You watched him ease down onto the bed then dig into the double stacks of pancakes, eggs, sausage, and tater tots. When he dipped a matter tot into the grape jelly you smiled, comforted that at least that was the same. The man loved his sweets.
You didn't know how long you stood there watching him eat but in no time at all the plate was empty and he was gulping down the tea you'd given him.
“Tea is not my thing.”
“I know but you were just shot and still recovering caffeine is on the list of no foods for a while longer.”
Ray stared at you with squinted eyes and underneath the scrutiny of his eyes you has to look away but your eyes went back to his body. God he looked good, you thought. Again your eyes went to the “A” part of his chest tat and stared. He'd tattooed your name on him. If he'd done that he couldn’t hate you could he?
“What game are you playing? Whatever it is I don't want any parts of it this time,” Ray said, draining the hot tea.
“I'm not playing any game, never have.”
“Right.”
You'd had enough. “Look say what you gotta say, I've had enough with the passive-aggressive you. Speak your heart, because we gotta move. I don't like being away from home after a job for too long.”
“Home? Funny I thought LA was your home, that I was…”
He trailed off leaving the words unspoken but still felt.
“Guess things change. You had no problem leaving LA and staying gone for 10 years. Had no problem letting me take the fall, the time, and all that came with it! No problem using me!”
“Okay, you wanna do this now? Fine!”
You pulled up a chair and sat in front of him. “I never used you. I also never asked you to take the fall for me. That was you, Ray!”
“Bullshit! You made a fucking choice and it wasn't me.”
“You told me to run. I ran.”
“Without hesitation you sure did.”
“Oh come on Ray! You don't know how hard that was for me. You have no idea what the fuck I've been through because of that night,” you spat.
“You!? I went to fucking prison Aria. Me! You disappeared. You never visited, never wrote, never called. Nothing! It was me doing the time alone. Me dealing with all that shit for 10 years. You abandoned me!”
His words hurt like 10 thousand blades slicing at your heart. He really had no idea and was just fine looking to the worst as the explanation. The fury rolling off of him doused your anger. In a way, you guessed it was true. You had disappeared. You didn't call, write or visit. You did run when he told you to. Everything he said was true at surface level.
“I didn't want to leave you, Ray. I wanted to stay and take my chances, serve the time with you.”
“Bullshit! Don't fucking lie to me Aria. I've had 10 years to sit with your lies. 10 years to comb through every lie you said, every lie you weaved into your movements, every lie spoken with your touch. The ledger is in the red, Aria. You can never pay it!”
He was right. You couldn't make up for what happened. It was too late too much had happened. You'd been stupid to think that if you just showed up again things would work themselves out. Even if he knew the whole story nothing would change. You clenched your jaw trying to stop yourself from crying.
“I'm sorry.”
Ray scoffed harshly.
“Fuck your sorries. They mean jack shit.”
This one wasn't a blade. It was a bullet and it made dead center impact. Unable to control yourself you stood and stalked to the door keeping your face turned from him. Before you walked out you stopped and took a breath.
“We're wheels up in an hour. The choice is yours on what to do.”
You grabbed the doorknob and half walked out but stopped again. “Every word I've ever said to you, every action, every touch, every single moment was never a lie. I got you. ‘Till the end imma ride wit’ you. I meant that on everything.”
You rushed from the room knowing you were seconds from exploding with every emotion you'd caged in the last 10 years. You zipped past your girls who'd no doubt heard the shouting and hightailed it to the shooting range under the house where you fired round after round at nearly every target there hitting dead center every time. As you released bullet after bullet tear after tear fell filling the endless well you now knew you'd carry the rest of your life.
An hour later you'd pulled yourself together and were clean, dressed, and strapped up ready to face your shit like the grown-ass woman you were and the queen you were set to become.
“Everything good?
“Yep. Is everyone here?”
No one answered which told me Ray wasn't here. You nodded and took a slow breath in.
“Did you give him the heist money and some gear?”
“An hour ago,” Uki replied.
“All right then. Let's go home.”
You pressed the elevator button and the doors opened.
“Where is home?”
Ray's deep baritone washed over you stunning you still.
“Why?”
“I would like to know where I'm going before I get there,” he answered.
Your head snapped back to him and your eyes locked. Hope swirled within you and it was stronger than any other emotion. It truly was dangerous.
“Nigeria.”
His brow crooked. “Hm, I've always liked the heat.”
“Let's see if you can take it, white boy,” Jada teased.
They all giggled and you caught a ghost of a smile on Ray's lips and your stomach flipped. Shit, you thought. You didn't need this right now.
“You have your money. Why not just take it and go?”
“I still might but right now I have nowhere I need to be.”
You nodded, hearing the words between his words.
“Let's move.”
You got in the elevator and everyone else piled in after you. Once under the compound you took to the escape tunnel and followed the 2 miles until you climbed back to ground level where the truck waited. After loading the bags, you sped away knowing Razu would have never seen this move coming.
It didn't take long to get to the jet and when you were securely in the air and exiting Mexican airspace you began to breathe more freely. For the first hour or so Ray kept to himself. He didn't speak or interact he just watched everything. It was a strength of his and soothing he'd honed in the services. By the time hour 4 came around Milla, Lyn, and Keturah had pulled him into a card game where they grossly took advantage until he got the hang of it. Then the tides turned in his favor.
Slowly he looked like he was beginning to fit in, and it made you relax a little more. Four and a half hours after takeoff, you were landing toward the coast where you would take a boat to the compound. Being the serviceman he was, Ray constantly checked the perimeter with one hand on his gun and the other hooked in the bulletproof vest he wore. He looked like a fish out of water amongst the backdrop of dessert colored dirt, rocky mountains, and free-roaming elephants, Zebras, and Antelope but at the same time, he looked like he belonged. Perhaps that was wishful thinking.
“Home, oh!”
You looked out to the palatial compound that rivaled the vastness of The Alamo and smiled. While you felt like a caged bird at times you loved being home.
“That is home?”
“Home sweet home,” Lyn added.
“Jesus, who are you people?”
They giggled while you focused on your return. You could already see movement and knew everyone around was gathering. Once the boat docked you unloaded and made your way to the walls. The men on patrol there were starting at Ray like he had three heads.
“Ehm!”
The guards shook out of their stupor and then opened the gate allowing you to enter. As you walked through, they saluted you with the respect you deserved. However, before you made it to the house you heard the murmurs of the arrival of the man you knew you'd have to answer to sooner or later. Everyone around except for you and Ray dropped to one knee while bending one arm at the elbow and clenching a tight fist. Your father's salute. You looked to Ray he was clearly confused but not intimidated.
The 6-and-a-half-foot man approached you with a stern look on his face and dressed like the world's best businessman. When he stood in front of you, Ray still didn't drop to his knee. You didn't know if it was ignorance of who was before him or indifference. If it was indifference, you were highly turned on. As your father eyed you trying to intimidate you into submitting you stood there head high, eyes locked on his not wavering. Your father's eyes shifted to Ray and you took a sidestep to stand in front of him.
“I'm home baba.”
Your father’s eyebrow crooked. “Baba? You still recognize me as your baba? You still recognize me as the leader of this organization?!”
Everyone continued to murmur as they felt the air shift from his anger.
“Of course.”
He scoffed. “I explicitly told you to stay out of the States. I told you that you can't break him out. I told you so many things and they were all ignored by you. All disobeyed!”
“Baba, I couldn't just sit here anymore. I had to.”
He stared at you, eyes still blazing with anger but slowly his features cooled. “You accomplished it too, I am impressed.”
You smiled.
“But what if I would have lost you? What then? Did you plan that far in your elaborate schemes?”
“You raised me and I had my Femme Fetales, how could you lose me?”
He sighed, shook his head then cupped your cheek. “You are of my blood, I don't know why I was surprised. I'm surprised it took you this long.”
You smirked.
“Fine.”
Your Father's eyes shifted back to Ray who was still standing.
“Still standing I see.”
“I bow to no one,” Ray defiantly exclaimed in that nonchalant voice of his.
Your father cocked his brow then laughed heartily. “Is that so?”
“Viper, it's been settled,” one of the men informed bowing his has to your father.
Ray's eyes went wide. “Viper? As in The Viper? The most feared and respected man in the game? The man who is at the top of everyone's wanted list and who has a hand and foot in every country and every market? That viper?”
Your father looked impressed. “And if I was that Viper?”
Ray looked at you then back to your father. “Then you'd have a lot more of my respect.”
He laughed again. “Interesting. Still standing?”
“I told you; I bow to no one.”
Your father smirked. “If you stay here when she takes over I can't wait to see you eat those words.”
He and Ray squared off both stating the other down as if sizing each other up. You knew your father was trying to gauge what kind of a man he was and get a feel of what value he posed. Usually, he was a great judge of character, but you wondered if he’d be biased because of the past, because of what Ray was to you.
“Everyone back to work.”
All the soldiers began walking away clearing the center but when you began to move he spoke again. “Everyone except Ray. We have plenty to talk about.”
You once again leaped in front of Ray shielding him. “No way.”
His eyes dipped down to yours and he mischievously smirked. “Why?”
“Because I know you. To punish me and prove a point you would kill him.”
Your father put his hand over his chest. “You wound me, princess. I promise I won’t kill him much less lay a hand on him. However, if he can’t so little as take a beating then maybe he’s not an asset here.”
“Baba he’s already taken 3 bullets, 2 came close to his heart and lung.”
“And I’ve taken a bullet right in the head and I lived to talk about it and run this empire. Near a lung and heart is child’s play.”
You opened your mouth to counter, but your father’s voice boomed over yours. “Either I talk to him alone now or I will see if he can take a bullet to the head and live. What’s 4 bullets?”
You knew better than to push him. He was your father, and he was soft on you, but he was still in charge. You hated it when he threw his weight around like this. Gritting your teeth, you sidestepped.
“Go and make sure everything is okay with the mission for tomorrow night.”
With one more glance at Ray, then your father you walked off. If Ray was going to survive here he had to learn how to fend for himself. What better opponent to start with than the king himself?
-Ray-
The fucking viper. He’d heard countless stories of this man’s empire. In LA there were plenty of his viper dens, plenty of his people dealing in so much shit. His gambling den was always packed and usually, the place everyone went for information, and that was just one of his businesses. He’d had no idea his reach came this far. Africa. Holy shit, he thought. They’d walked to a more secluded part of the compound, a part that looked like a luxury desert oasis.
He watched Viper sit, pull out something wrapped in brown paper then light it. With one puff came another and another until he was surrounded by white fragrant smoke. He took a deep breath in. It had been a long time since he’d had one of these. With parole checks and shit like that, he had to stay clean of everything.
“Here. Live a little.”
He held a similar one to him. He took it and mirrored his actions until he’d taken one long puff of his own. He groaned long and loud which brought a laugh from the giant’s mouth across from him.
“10 long years without one huh.”
He took in this man in a designer suit, diamonds, and gold. He had no idea you knew The Viper. It dawned on him then that he probably didn’t know anything about you anymore.
“I will give you one piece of advice and a warning all wrapped in one. Never have daughters because they will cripple you worse than any bullet ever could.”
Once he’d said the words it didn’t take him long to piece it together. Daughter.
“Aria is your daughter.”
He nodded. “She didn’t tell you.”
He sighed and took another lengthy puff. “One of many things I’m sure. I’m not surprised anymore.”
“Sounds a lot like animosity.”
He sighed but remained silent. He was bitter—very bitter.
“I’m sorry about your brothers. I know a loss like that—is a serious blow especially not being able to say goodbye.”
He balled his free hand. he’d hit the nail right on the head.
“If I know Aria and I do, she’s already found your snitch and he’ll be gift-wrapped to you by tonight.”
He snapped his eyes to the viper. “What’re you talking about?”
He sighed and blew out a puff of smoke. “I suppose it’s time to come clean.”
A few moments passed in silence, and he waited as patiently as he could.
“12 years ago I knew the moment you met, and I knew from that moment every move either of you made. I knew every secret rendezvous, every phone call, text message, every mini heist, every small job, every crazy scheme, and plan. Aria had no clue I knew and though I was leery about you, hell any man who wanted my daughter’s attention. She’s my only child and the future of this empire. But I like to give her small freedoms, so I let her live, I let her think she was living this secret life and I kept watch as the two of you fell in love—to my complete dislike. Of all people, a white boy oh.”
He kissed his teeth, then sighed. “I thought—hoped it would be young love, a fling, but I knew the night she shielded you from that vato, we’d move way past that.”
His interest was piqued but his gut rolled as if he knew he wouldn’t like what came next.
“The night of that lift off the PerriP crew I had my most trusted guys watching her. I knew the deeper in she got with you the more risk she would take. So when the shit hit the fan and you guys figured out there was a snitch you got cornered. They reported it to me, and I relayed my orders. Get her out at all costs.”
He paused again to take another drag from the substance lit between his fingers.
“When you told her to run, and you decided to burn yourself to save her I knew she would have stayed right there with you no matter what. You got separated it wasn’t because she actually ran. my men came in and sedated her to get her out.”
Everything felt like it collapsed then, his vision went tunnel, heart pounded painfully and loudly.
“What!?”
“My men followed my orders and when she came to, she killed several good men in an effort to get back to you. Of course, I couldn’t allow that. Within 2 hours, she was on the jet back here.”
As his heart thudded more painfully he pressed his hand over it. All this time, he thought.
“For the last 10 years, she’s been forbidden from making contact, forbidden from stepping foot in the States, forbidden from doing anything that he didn’t approve of. She hated my order and rebelled like hell. For years she hated me. I’m sure she still hates me for it, but I knew without a doubt that she would have served that stint with you. As her father, I couldn’t allow that.”
In the span of five minutes, his entire world had shifted. Everything he believed was flipped.
“You may resent me for it but, even knights are meant to be sacrificed for the queen.”
He met your father’s eyes and saw aloofness. He didn’t look remorseful, but he could see something that he thought was close. He wasn’t sorry nor did he regret his decisions, but he felt badly.
“Since the day she landed here, she’s been keeping tabs on you. She knew about your life on the inside and kept her ears to the ground so she knew when to step in if she had to. She was the reason you only served 10 instead of the 20 they wanted to give you. She wanted to break you out, but I wouldn’t allow it because that move would jeopardize my empire because of all the moving parts and people in law enforcement and government it would have taken. I don’t like to cash in debts.”
As your father spoke he sat there thinking about the last 10 to 12 years of his life. The happy years with you then the darkness of the last 10.
“She knew about your heist plan, knew about Donnie but she let it play out because she had a bigger plan. She managed to be one step ahead of everything and executed her plans seamlessly. She went against me and my orders and put the entire den in jeopardy just to step in and save you. She did all this for one man.”
He sounded as if he were in disbelief.
“Were you worth it?”
He scoffed. Was he?
“I see a lot of myself in you. Your ferocity, brains, drive, creativity, and foresight, I see so much potential for you here. I’m impressed with what you can offer the den. I always have been. Now that she’s gone through all this effort it is clear to me that how she felt then never died, it lives still. The proof has always been clear to me though I was reluctant to accept it. She is my princess, and no one is worthy of her. However, it’s become time for me to step aside and let her choose who stands beside her. I’ll offer you a spot in my empire, a place in the Den of Vipers, but the role is up Aria.”
He couldn’t believe his ears. All these years, all this time. Everything he’d thought was real wasn’t, everything was wrong. Your father stood then patted him on his shoulders.
“Take some time to think about it. Let me know when you’ve decided.”
With that, he walked off leaving him sitting there in this oasis with a head full of thoughts and a heart aching in more ways than one.
-Aria-
It had been nearly 2 hours now. What the fuck could they be talking about for so long? Being home you were supposed to be at ease but during your soak in the tub, you hadn't felt any ease. You were as tense and worried as ever. Not even half a bottle of rum had helped. You paced your room in your mid-thigh length robe as you thought about your options. Your father was pissed with you but you knew he wouldn't be too harsh. If you interrupted whatever they were doing he wouldn't punish you for it.
With your mind made up you flung your door open the gasped seeing Ray standing on the other side. Immediately he took your breath away. Mere hours ago, his eyes still held anger and mistrust in them. Now they were softer. What in the world had happened?
“Uh…what’re you doing here?”
“We need to talk.”
You crooked your brow. Now he wanted to talk? Without waiting for your reply, Ray walked into your bedroom leaving you stunned. He couldn’t wait to get away from you before, now he was barging into the viper's den. After closing the door, you cautiously walked in. Ray was at the window scanning the perimeter. When he turned his eyes roamed over you taking in your attire. When he realized how little you had on, he turned his head then breathed out heavily.
“How did you find me?”
“I asked.”
“And everyone was so willing to give you, an outsider, the location of--.”
“The next Viper in line to rule?”
You took him in. Your father had told him.
“Your father must have given me the green light around here,” he said.
“What? After 1 conversation? What in the hell did you talk about? Did he pull a gun on you?”
“Nope. He gave me some weed.”
You gaped then shook your head because it sounded like something your father would do. “So, he gave you weed then approved your access, and bam here you are.”
“10 years of secrets. Don’t you think it’s time to come clean?”
You studied him for a few moments then sat at the foot of your bed.
“What’re you talking about?”
“I did 10 years for you. The least you could do is be honest.”
“You keep saying that like I made you take the fall, like--.”
“Like you didn’t leave me?”
“Ray you told me to run. I did!”
“Yeah, you did. You ran never looked back then disappeared.”
You pinched your nose bridge then pressed across your forehead. He had no idea.
“If I looked back I knew I wouldn’t be able to leave. I knew that we’d both get caught and then we’d both be fucked. I wanted to go back so bad Ray. I knew I could convince my father to plan a jailbreak for you before any sentencing even happened but then some of my father’s men grabbed me and the next thing I knew I was on a plane halfway across the ocean. I tried to get back. I swear I did but--.”
“Even knights are meant to be sacrificed for the queen,” Ray said in such a way that an eerie feeling washed over you.
He’d talked to your father. Those were his exact words to you when you tried to plead your case to go back for Ray or even plan a jailbreak. He’d told him everything.
“He told you.”
“Yeah, he told me.”
“And you’re still angry with me? Why?”
“There is nothing and no one that could keep me away from you. All it took was daddy’s words for you to give up on me.”
You sprang to your feet then, anger bubbling in your gut. “You don’t know my father. He would have killed you just so you weren’t a distraction for me anymore. I stayed away to keep you alive. I didn’t give up on shit. All these years I’ve been watching. All these years I’ve been trying to keep you safe. Do you have any fucking idea how exhausted I am?!”
“I don’t need your fucking protection Aria! I didn’t then and I don’t now! I—I fucking needed you!”
Your eyes were locked on his, jaw tight as a slew of emotions swirled within you. Ray was the kind of man who was quiet but expressive. When you were together those 2 years he wasn’t overtly expressive about his feelings. What he didn’t say in words, he said in plenty of other ways. However, when he used words he always took your breath away. Now, today was no different.
Slowly you watched his eyes fill with something else other than anger. Something—heart-wrenching.
“I needed you on visiting days. I needed you at nights. I needed you in the depressing darkness of the hole. I needed you in every fight, every attempt someone made to prove I was weak. I needed to know I still had you.”
Ray turned from you and looked out of the window again. Your tears fell from your eyes, and it hit you then. Yes, he was angry with you, but he was angrier at the situation you found yourselves in. Where you’d had 10 years to accept the shit, he’d just had it all flung at him. Ray’s shoulders were slouched, hanging low as if he now had all the world’s weight on them.
You wanted to touch him, but you were scared he’d shrug you off. So, you kept your distance but after a few minutes the urge became too strong, and you slowly crossed the room until you stood right behind him. Raising your hand, it took forever to close the space to his shoulder. When you laid your hand on his skin, he didn’t move or lash out.
“I felt like such a fucking fool to have burned myself for you. I took you disappearing as you proving how untrue you were that you didn’t mean anything you said. I hated you so much. I wished such horrible things on you but with every horrible wish, I felt worse and worse. I hated myself and--.”
You dipped under one of his arms that were pressed on the windowpane and came face to face with him. Holding his face in your hands you found the last of your courage.
“I’m sorry,” you whispered.
Ray raised his eyes and peered into your tear-filled ones. You repeated the words you’d wanted to say for years. You said them again and again and with each apology Ray melted. The tension in his shoulders crumbled.
“I’m sorry,” Ray croaked out.
It was your turn to melt. Within seconds of those words escaping his lips, you both crashed into one another, lips colliding for the first time in a decade. You’d often wondered if this was possible after everything, and if it were, how would it happen. Would it be slow and tender, teasing, and hesitant? It was neither. Ray kissed you with a hardness that wasn’t there 10 years ago. He kissed you as if he loved you and hated you all at once like he wanted to suck the very air from your lungs to have a piece of you with him always or to kill you so no one could ever have you. His kiss was delightful and torture, familiar but foreign.
Your lips and tongues wrestled never remaining still for long. He swirled his around yours, and you sucked his until he groaned. When Ray pressed your back against the window the hardness of his body made you whimper. This was the body of a fully grown man, not some young adult. You wrapped your arms around his neck and pulled him closer. In response, Ray dipped down and lifted you into the air so you could wrap your legs around his waist.
All of this was muscle memory. Your body never forgot him. How could it? He’d been your first in so many things. You bit down on his bottom lip dragging a fierce groan from him. Ray pressed into you giving you the first feel of his hardness.
“Fuck!”
Like a command received, Ray quickly yanked open your robe then cupped your breasts. His hands were rough, calloused, and larger than you remember. Using his thumbs he flicked your hardened nipples sending jolts of pleasure through you that settled in your core and turned to molten lava.
“Now! I can’t wait anymore,” you rushed out in between kisses.
Ray must have felt the same urgency because he released your breasts then lowered his hands to fumble with his pants. As he freed himself then kicked the pants off they went across the room and banged into one of the lamps bringing it clattering to the floor. With the room in half darkness, Ray locked eyes with you and a second later he split you in half sending his large, thick cock to the hilt.
“Aah! Fuck!”
Ray shuddered as he pressed his forehead to your collar. When he pulled back he rammed himself inside of you again making you throw your head back into the window.
“Ugh!”
His thrusts started slow and punishing. Each quick flick of his hips sent a powerful message that both your brain and body received. You held on to him afraid he’d disappear and you’d realize this was yet another dream. His hands tightened around your hips then he moved you against him, so he was directing his hardness into you the way he wanted, the speed he wanted. Every time he sank into you, your body shook, and goosebumps peppered your skin.
Soon, you both were panting, grunting, and groaning as you fucked right in front of the window not caring who could see. He turned, leaning his back on the wall as he locked eyes with where your bodies were joined.
“Fuck, fuck, fuck! Uuuugh!”
“Fuck me, Ray. Fuck me!”
That was just what he did. His thrusts were unrelenting, his power all-encompassing and with every minute your pleasure became so intense you knew you would break in half once you came. Ray tightened his grip then moved you more forcefully against him losing all control. The veins in his neck protruded as he lost himself to the pleasure you were sure he could only find with you.
You felt him walking across the room then your positioning changed as he sat you on top of him.
“Take all this dick, Aria!”
He slapped your ass, and it was all the encouragement you needed. You planted your hands on his shoulder then slowly lifted your body up only to slide back down. He felt so good. Ray dropped his head back and closed his eyes. Every time he almost slipped from your heat he bit down on his bottom lip. Then when you sank down on him his nose scrunched. Soon you were bouncing on him using the power and skill of your hips and ass.
Ray gripped your derriere, spread your cheeks then thrust up.
“Mmm!”
That one thrust unlocked something inside of you, something rabid and primal. Raising onto your feet you bounced on him increasing your speed until sweat rolled down your bodies. You pressed your lips to his and kissed him with as much heat as you felt within. It was heat he returned.
“Mm, I’ve missed your tight little pussy.”
Locking eyes with him you bit his bottom lip. “Show me.”
Ray stood, pulled you off him then pushed you over the chair so your ass was propped up like a gift for him. Without warning he slammed into you making you fling your head back. Ray’s hand wrapped around your throat as he held you in the position you were in. With your back arched creating a ‘u’ shape along your spine he lowered his lips to your upside-down ones and kissed you senseless. When he pulled his lips from yours he fucked into you with reckless abandon. Every stroke make you shout his name and every time you did he only fucked you harder and harder.
In no time at all you were seeing stars and your body was begging for mercy. You didn’t dare listen though. When you felt his teeth sinking into your shoulder you screamed from the pain but your body convulsed from the pleasure.
“Still like a little pain with your pleasure huh.”
Ray pulled from your body. You turned to him on shaky legs and peered at him through lust-clouded eyes. He hoisted you into the air again then slid you down on his length. Again you kissed him as he began his torturous pleasure all over again. When you tasted copper, you pulled back to realize you’d bitten his lip and drawn blood. Ray smirked then slammed you into a wall and jackhammered into you.
“Yes!”
“Is this still my pussy, Aria?”
“Yes.”
“Do I still own it?”
“Yes!”
“Ah, ah, ah!”
With each thrust, you could feel his body shaking. He was close and you wanted everything from him. You were tired of the last 10 years of longing. You wanted everything now.
“I love you, Ray.”
His brow quirked then his face scrunched and that was when you felt him release deep inside of you. It was a release that triggered yet another orgasm from you and brought darkness with it as your body exploded.
When you opened your eyes you were in your bed naked and sore.
“What the--.”
“Welcome back.”
Beside the bed, Ray sat just as naked as you. It all came back then, and you couldn’t hide the smile that spread across your face.
“Was I too rough?”
You glanced at his chest and saw the blood soaking the bandages. You jerked up. “What happened?”
“I’m fine. Some of the stitches popped.”
You slowly looked around the room and saw everything was in disarray. Lamps were broken on the floor, sheets and clothes littered everywhere, broken glass and furniture were here and there, and blood was smeared on some of the walls and your body.
You snorted, “Just like old times I see.”
Ray smirked.
“I’m sorry,” Ray began.
“Don’t. Let’s stop with the apologies here and now. No more. We missed so much time, so much was missed out on. I don’t want to miss it anymore. I don’t want to keep going like this Ray. I can’t. I miss you so fucking much I can’t breathe. I’ve loved you for 12 years and I don’t see it ever changing.”
Ray walked over to you, his hard cock bobbing in the air. Once beside the bed, he took your hands and raised you to your knees so you were in front of him. When his hand cupped your cheek you melted.
“This is the second time I’ve lost everything. Now I have nothing else, and I don’t want to lose you again. I can’t.”
His hand slid to the back of your neck to cup your skull. “I have loved you since I was 20 years old. A decade later not a damn thing has changed. I will love you for the rest of my life.”
Your tear slipped from your eye and Ray’s thumb swiped it away.
“Do you mean that? Do you forgive me?”
“I mean it.”
Rau brought your face closer and gazed deeper into your eyes.
“‘Till the end Imma ride wit’ you. There’s nothing to forgive.”
You scrunched your face and tried to contain yourself. “Ray,” you whispered, voice full of emotion.
“Tell me again,” he pleased.
You pressed your forehead to his. “I love you Ray Merrimen. “I got you. ‘Till the end Imma ride wit’ you.”
He smiled and then pulled you into a searing kiss, a kiss that revived your very heart and set your soul on fire. This man was all you wanted and all you would ever need.
“Your father offered me a spot here. He said the role is up to you though.
You held your breath waiting for him to finish.
“I want it. So tell me what role you want me to have?”
“You cupped his bearded jaw.
“I want you next to me.”
He smiled then slowly nodded.
“As your knight?”
You pulled him closer.
“As the king in my den because every queen needs a king.”
Ray laid you down then climbed on top of you ready to make you blackout again but a knock on your door stopped him.
“What?”
“It’s here,” Uki’s voice sounded.
You smiled. “I got you a present.”
“What present?”
“Come.”
The two of you dressed, you in your robe and Ray only in his pants. He didn’t even bother cleaning up the blood off his skin. you like it, he looked fierce. Once you made it outside to the center of the compound, the men had gathered. You glanced at Uki who smirked and nodded at you clearly knowing what had gone down and that Ray would now be a permanent face around here.
“What’s going on?”
“Consider this your welcome present. A token of my undying love.”
The men parted to reveal someone kneeling in the center with a burlap bag over their head. Ray looked at you with confusion.
“Open your present, my king.”
Ray approached the body then yanked off the burlap and came face to face with Donnie. When Donnie looked up at him the terror in his eyes faded.
“Ray—Ray help me. What the fuck is going on?”
Ray looked back at you, and you smiled wider nodding at him. You approached and stood beside him.
“Who’s this?”
“The Viper.”
Donnie’s eyes widened. You loved when your family’s reputation preceded you.
“Fuck, wha—wha—.”
“Shh. I’m not going to hurt you.”
“You’re not?”
“No. I have no quarrel with you. It’s him you have to worry about.”
Donnie looked at Ray again. You leaned forward to Donnie’s ear.
“He knows what you did. He knows everything you did,” you whispered.
Donnie now looked horrified. You smiled when you stood upright again then laughed.
“Ray look man don’t listen to her. She’s lying. I didn’t have anything to do with any of that. Shit just went south. I don’t know how Nick knew about the heist. I don’t know how the money went missing.”
“How did you know the money went missing if everyone who knew that is dead?”
Donnie stuttered at Ray’s question. He’d given himself away.
“Fuck. I’m sorry man. I just--.”
“Shhh,” you repeated. “What was it that you like to say—oh right. You’re in complete control of your environment?”
He looked like he was ready to piss himself. You smirked deviously. “Guess what. You’re in my environment. You always have been in my environment. My den sees and hears everything.”
Ray stared at Donnie with so much anger that you wondered how he’d handle this. Donnie was the reason his brothers were dead. He looked at you.
“Whatever you want,” you said.
Ray nodded then kissed you sloppily making you moan. He then pressed his forehead to yours.
“Gun.”
You repeated the order and took the gun that was given to you to hand to Ray. Donnie then began pleading using every slick word he could find to plead with Ray not to do it.
“I’ll get you the money back.”
“How can you give something you don’t have? I took the money back already.”
Donnie dropped to the ground realizing he had nothing left.
“You got my brothers killed. Do you know what happens to those dropped in a viper’s den?”
“Ray man please.”
“They get bit!”
You watched as Ray released bullet after bullet into Donnie. He didn’t stop until the bullets stopped and the gun clicked over and over and over, and Donnie lay dead on the ground. He dropped his head back and stared into the night sky.
“It’s done. Rest up brothers,” Ray said into the night.
You looked up and saw Razu standing across the way. his eyes wide and jaw clenched tight. You smiled then wrapped yourself around Ray who wrapped his arm possessively around you.
“Thank you.”
“Don’t mention it.”
“I mean it Aria. You’ve done so much. Thank you.”
You touched his cheek and then kissed him. “I told you. I got you. ‘Till the end Imma ride wit’ you.”
Ray pressed his lips to your forehead then the two of you turned to go back inside.
“Aria! I challenge you and that white abomination!”
You smirked and took the gun Uki handed to you, ever prepared for the shit that could rise. You turned, took aim, and shot quicker than he could realize what had happened. Your shot rang true sending the bullet dead center in Razu’s head.
“Spies and traitors don’t have the right to challenge. Uki will show you all the man Razu was.
She pressed a button on her wrist and the screens around played Razu’s dirty dealings within the den. Everyone whispered words of admonishment as they spat at and on Razu’s dead body.
“Let it be known that as of today I am his, and he is mine. If anyone objects speak now.”
Not a soul spoke and from the corner of your eye, you saw your father standing high above it all watching the events unfold. You held his gaze for a few moments and caught the smile on his lips. He nodded then pressed a kiss to his fingertips and sent it your way. His approval. It was 12 years later but better late than never.
Once you’d returned to your bedroom and ravaged each other thoroughly, you both laid there staring at each other both afraid to sleep for fear it was all a dream. Ray reached out and caressed your cheek.
“I promise to be loyal to you, to love you, and always come back for you.”
You smiled. “I promise to be loyal to you, love you and always come back for you.”
He rolled onto you and captured your lips.
“This is forever, Aria.”
“Forever.”
Sister: Have we met this guy before? Me: Yeah, that’s Dino. Guy who died in the very first episode? Sister: Uhm….. Me: He was set up like a main character and then he was set on fire at the end of the episode? Sister: I don’t remember that. I only remember um… Jefferson.
Sister: And that’s why he decided to kill someone?
Sister: hey trying to shove a romance in here last second? With the nazi wife?
Sister: I don’t get it. He could just tell and get the insurance anyway, couldn’t he? It’s not like he conspired to burn down the machinery. (Sigh) This is why he’s in prison.
Sister: How did he get everyone to do what he says she he’s been nothing but rude to them?
Sister: They have to wet his head? For conduction? Me: Yeah. Haven’t you seen the Green Mile? Sister: Nope. Me: What? The Green Mile? Yes you have. Pretty sure we watched it together. Sister: Nope. The black guy? Me: With Tom Hanks? Sister: Nope. What's the one where the dude threatens the guards and they get coke? Me: Shawshank Redemption?! Sister: Yeah, I haven't seen that one either. Or Saving Private Ryan. And I'm pretty sure we had Saving Private Ryan at home. Me: We have the Green Mile, too!
Sister: Wawa lied to me… Me: How did I lie? Sister: You made it sound like he died.
Me: Must suck to be Li Chen’s parents sitting there and everyone including the staff is really happy the guy who killed your son won’t be executed. Like, if you believe in the death penalty. Sister: Yeah, they're like screw them, LOL.
Sister’s Predictions for the final two episode/what she would like to happen:
Tobias isn’t getting released unless he gets more family members killed, but he ain’t got that many left.
Cyril will get sent to the mental institute and Ryan will probably mellow out if he’s smart and learns to reflect and be grateful. Or he’ll just keep being a dick. Or maybe O’Reily will stop showing up now that his storyline is done and then we can finally have time to focus on other people’s stories. I mean, what do we have left? Two hours? We got a lot to get done. But I feel like he’s a fan favorite because they do so much crap with him, there’s no way they’re going to just shove him aside. Even if he’s in the background, he’s gonna be, like, standing there. And there’s the stuff with his mom and the other dude. He’s probably going to bless their relationship or whatever and say he understands now.
Redding’s probably going to die because he’s not doing anything else so far. But if the show wants to end with a sense of calm, then Redding’s probably going to survive, or Poet and the other guy will die because they’re already getting messed with.
Miguel will become leader… Or maybe Chico will become leader, if he finds the leadership balls. Someone will come up to him and be like “who’s leader” and he’ll be like “oh, let me go ask Miguel”, which is like HUH? But if he had the leadership balls, he would just be like “Oh, I am!” …There’s only two options with the Latinos. Some random person? I don’t think so.
Keller will die if the show wants to end things on a calm note, but if they want to end things chaotically, he will kill someone and become leader of the white supremacists maybe.
Depending on how much time is allotted to other stories, Idzik will die as a casualty by someone else’s hand and he’ll die as he wanted, and Mr Dinosaur (Omar) won’t get in trouble.
The Muslims need to find a strong leader… The current guy isn’t leadership material so he’ll probably get overthrown.
Lord of the Rings type ending after the ending in the last episode where we do a tour of all the groups and staff with like Mukada and Sister Pete where it seemingly never finishes. The old people (Rebadow and Stella) are probably going to be part of the Lord of the Rings ending. Maybe they’ll do a little wink and wave with the Gays, if they’re really wanting to hit all the groups and give some representation before the show ends. Each group has about…. [some strange Sister math later] 10 minutes and 54 seconds of screen time in the next two episodes.
Next episode will be the action finale and then episode 8 will be a bunch of fall out and resolution so they can give the show a nice ending. Unless they really didn’t know the show would end.
"Prisoner @justzosiahere ! Milgramblrgram has judged you guilty for your crimes! It is time to meet your judgement. As the wardens' fang, I take that responsibility upon myself! 👊" (Haruka angst style experiment, muahaha! I kept things a bit vague so anyone can pick up where it starts, but this is placed in your post-Milgram au when Haruka is more of an adult.)
TW for his implied abuse and suicidal thoughts
It was supposed to be better. Wasn’t it supposed to be better now? It was. It really was. Haruka’s hands clawed at his shoulders, desperately hugging himself. No one else was supposed to die.
His phone rang.
He ignored it and continued his pacing of the back hospital hall. Thankfully, no one was around to see him slipping into old habits. He’d already chewed through each of his nails, but enough substance remained to dig bright red marks in his arms. What he really wanted was to direct all his scratching toward the surrounding room.
The walls were too white.
The lights were too powerful, the air too still.
Everything felt chilled.
Everything smelled funny.
Clean, but wrong.
He wanted to leave.
He wanted them to both leave, together.
Why did he never get what he wanted?
Did the world hate him that much?
His phone rang.
He didn’t know why the world would hate him. His whole life, he’d worked so hard to be good, to be what everyone said he should be. He thought he’d been doing everything right – he was finally starting to be normal. He acted braver. Happier. Well-behaved. He was finally loved.
Everything was supposed to be better as an adult. That’s what Kazui had told him, a long time ago. It was dark, and the voices in his head became too much to bear, and he interrupted Haruka, and stopping him from doing something he didn’t like talking about. He promised that being grown would change things, and Haruka clung to that hope with everything he had.
But Kazui was wrong. He should never have listened to him. Or maybe, he lied, like he always lied. Like how all adults lie to children. Like how he was going to have to lie.
Oh god, he was going to have to, didn’t he? There was no way he could tell anyone about this. He had a hard enough time coming up with the right words on a good day – he didn’t know how he’d ever manage to say that… that…
His phone rang.
And what if they thought it was his fault? They’d be right, wouldn’t they? People were still getting hurt around him. Everyone that loved him ended up in pain. Maybe… he really was cursed. Maybe his mother was right. She’d always been right about him.
It didn’t matter how big he grew (he’d always felt too big for his body,) how brave he sounded (he was always scared inside,) how much he learned (he would never be as smart as everyone else), or how many good people he met (they were only going to disappear.) None of it mattered. He was cursed.
His phone rang.
With a cry, he flung it at the ground. The sound mercifully cut out as the screen shattered. Little pieces flew across the pure white tile. He didn’t want to talk to anyone. He couldn’t. They’d only get hurt, too.
His shoes crunched over the glass as he made his way to the door. He remembered when he was really young, stepping over broken things in his house. He never liked to wear his slippers, and more than once he’d cut his feet on debris lying around. He remembered the flat glass of picture frames, the pretty shape fragments of perfume bottles, and the shining mess of water and aquarium glass. He remembered his mother there, yelling at him. He didn’t hear what she was saying over his own crying, holding onto his bloody soles.
For the longest time, he thought it was unfair to be blaming him when he was so hurt. But who was he to question her, now?
He opened the back exit, exhaling in relief when the artificial light gave way to nightfall. He didn’t know where he was going to go. It didn’t really matter. With any luck, he’d end up back here.
When the door closed behind him, the hall was left in silence. The bustle of the surrounding hospital went on, with nothing but a small mess left behind on the floor as clue that anyone had been there.
#milgram#haruka sakurai#i know you have a few au/timelines so i didnt want to go into too much detail in case this could spoil anything for what youre posting 👍#the close voice/style was really fun - i hope it could translate well#i tried to capture the feeling of 'everything has genuinely been improving but one bad thing really can make someone spiral really far back#my original plan for you was something about kazui and satomi -- him hearing the voices and hearing hers specifically#but i couldnt get it to make sense -_- so i hope this can still do damage >:3#i think the most painful milgram post-canon thoughts are ones where they end up going back to the exact same mindsets....#drabbles#milgramblrgram
Hello, I really like your milgram analyses!! I thought your flower symbolism posts for yuno and mahiru were super cool >:0 and was wondering if you had any thoughts on the plants/flowers in Shidou's video!
(Rereading your tags you may only be accepting asks about the drinks, if so feel free to disregard this lmao👍)
Hello!! Thank you for liking my analyses! It makes me very happy!
Sorry for replaying so late, but I was a little confused on what specific video are you referring because both of his MVs have a lot of flowers imagery. I picked the second MV, because for the first one there are already many flower theories, so I hope I picked well!
Tbh I tried to find what flowers were on the Columbarium(I think I found two of them but then I gave up lmao, I will put them at the end, maybe someone knows what they are!)
So I decided to pick the flower that makes an appearance both on his door but also MV: the lily of the valley! (hope it's not too disappointing 💔 )
(mentions of murder, death)
~Meaning~
"Lily of the Valley symbolizes a return to happiness and hopefulness"
Considering that this flower is present in both his MV and door, I think it may symbolize Shidou's actual mental state in Milgram. In the first trial, he wanted Es to deem and vote him guilty in order to die and to stop thinking about his feelings of guilt and disgust for his crime. However, he received an innocent verdict and, because of Kotoko's attacks, he finally found a new purpose in his life. "A return to happiness", a hope, a new motive for him to still want to live and help the other prisoners to heal.
(Note: I say all this, but the new timeline post for Kazui's birthday made me a little worried for him. It seems that he is very stressed taking care of Mahiru. While I think he is happy because he found a new reason to live, he seems to overwork himself)
"Lily of the Valley is sometimes associated with sadness and loss because of their presence in many funeral arrangements. Though, the use of the flower in times of hardship is meant to represent the hope that happiness will soon return to those affected by loss or hard times."
This flower also represents Shidou's sorrow for his family loss and it also makes a reference to the Columbarium from his MV. Lily of Valley's are often used in funeral arrangements, so not only his house feels like it's made of death from outside(due to all the dead flowers), but also from inside too(the floor has a lot of Lily of the valley) !
If when he walks on the street he is still cheerful, not emotionally impacted by any deaths, when he comes home and the beautiful family reunion is cut short, the death of his relatives is what makes him realize how hard is to let go of someone. He feels guilty for wanting to cut the dead brain people life's short, when their family members were against it due to the fact that they were still not prepared to give up on them.
"Lily of the Valley spiritually signifies motherhood, humility, and virtue."
"Closely associated with the Virgin Mary, the gorgeous, tear-drop-like blossoms of the Lily of the Valley represent the tears Mary cried at the crucifixion of Jesus."
The motherhood part can symbolize(again) Shidou's deep love for his wife and children.
The story presented in the paragraph associates the lily of the valley with Mary's tears after her son's death. This can easily link with Shidou as his floor is full of these flowers like his tears fell on the ground at the loss of his children.
Virtue -> by standard definition it means to be morally good.
I think this symbolises how Shidou viewed his actions before his family death. He prided himself with his work and tried to save as many people as possible at the expense of the brain-dead people's relatives sorrow. In the second voice drama, he admits that, in the beginning, he believed that his actions were for greater good:
"Es: In the first place, getting involved with organ transplants is part of your job as a doctor. I doubt it’s something that you did out of your own free will.
Shidou: I… I took a lot of pride in my work. I considered it a good deed. I wouldn’t say I didn’t do it out of my own will."
Humility -> freedom from pride or arrogance.
Humility is the word that I'll use to describe Shidou change in demeanor after the incident. After his innocent verdict he started to take care of the injures of Mahiru and Fuuta. His presence in Milgram prison is so important that he actually saved Mahiru's life and continues to monitor her condition, even now, with the most recent timeline conversation. And the reason for why Shidou still wants to live is to solely to care for other prisoners.
Also in the voice drama, he states that he was arrogant. Now, in Milgram prison he tries as much as possible to redeem himself for his past mistakes.
"Es: In exchange for the life of a person who has no option left but to await death, you can save a person who has the chance to live on, right? In that case, you shouldn’t even have to think twice.
Shidou: I thought so, too… arrogant as I was."
"Lily of the Valley has been given as a gift of good luck and prosperity since the early 1500s. When King Charles IX was gifted a lovely Lily of the Valley on May Day, an ancient celebration of the beginning of summer every May 1st, he liked the flower so much that the tradition spread and continues to be upheld even today."
A bit of history, because why not!
Lily of the valley truly has a lot of opposing meanings, but this is what makes it more fun to write about!
These flowers can represent Shidou's wishes to have a healthy and beautiful family. He had a gorgeous wife, wonderful kids and his life was perfect, prosperous how it lasted. Being a doctor means that he had enough money to properly care for his family needs, what he truly needed was good luck... It seems as karma striked and these flowers couldn't protect him anymore...
~Mythology~
"In Greek mythology, Apollo first grew the Lily of the Valley."
"Greek god of the sun Apollo is believed to have sprinkled Lily of the Valley on the forest bed at Mount Parnassus so his darling muses wouldn’t injure their feet as they walked through the forest’s passages."
First, let's state who is Apollo.
"Apollo is a god in Greek mythology, and one of the Twelve Olympians. He is the god of healing, medicine, archery, music, dance, poetry, prophecy, knowledge, light and the sun. He is the leader of the Muses."
We can already see the similarities that god Apollo has with Shidou. They both have an importance in healing and medicine.
Now, into the analysis...
Were do we have lily on the valley in the ground as described in the legend? In Shidou's MV! I interpret it as Shidou's symbol of love for his family. His muses are his wife and children for whom he probably tries to save as many people as possible. I just can imagine how his kids are thinking of their father as a hero for saving so many people lives, and because of that Shidou is trying as hard as he can to fulfill his job as a doctor...
Also, this can also be a symbol of how Shidou maybe never told the bad parts of his work to his family in order to protect them form the horrible and sad truth.
I want to end this with an interesting fact about this flower!
"The flowers, fruit, and leaves contain cardiac glycosides that are dangerous if consumed or ingested by humans and animals and cause symptoms such as irregular heartbeats, vomiting, etc. Make sure to keep these flowers out of reach from small children and animals to keep your loved ones safe from any potential harm."
The lily of the valley is poisonous if eaten! I know that the family doesn't literally consume it, but I think it's interesting because it is kind of death flag. I don't know about you Shidou, but despite that this flower has beautiful meanings, you should reconsider if you want to keep this flower on your floor!!
Jokes aside, I will put here the flowers that (I think) I found. If someone else can recognize other flowers I would be very grateful!!
~Petunia~
~Spiderwort~
~Red/Orange rose~
~Buttercup~
(The little flowers next to the rose)
~Masterwort~
This one... I have many doubts, but it also makes an appearance in Shidou's first MV and I couldn't find any similar flower with this.
Thank you for reading!
Why are there no Stephanie Brown centric dpxdc fics?
Like, she did die for real at first in the comics- her death being faked was a retcon later on. She was 'dead' for infinite crisis and the following year (in universe), only coming back after the one year later arc, shortly before the Batman R.I.P plotline, which was shortly followed by Final Crisis and Bruce being lost in the timestream.
It would so easy to have Steph be a full ghost, or a halfa from Black Mask (who 'killed' her in War Games) experimenting on her with ectoplasm/her having been exposed to ectoplasm before that death.
There are so many ways she could have been introduced to ectoplasm, especially since Cluemaster has pellets with smoke/gasses/explosives in that he used as weapons, which he created himself with varying chemicals -which you could have ectoplasm be a part of.
Especially since Steph was a vigilante for a while before the bats even knew about her, operated mainly in the suburbs (where she lives, in Manchester) after Cluemaster was arrested, and only really teamed up with Tim until after no man's land (which was when Cass joined the bats, Steph first hears about Oracle, and Bruce actually begins to train and support Spoiler) - during no man's land she was still in the suburbs the whole time and she gave birth at the halfway mark or just before the half way mark of the No Mand Land year.
Gotham also canonically has a lazarus pit (which a lot of dpxdc has be connected to ectoplasm), said to be on the outskirts of the city - close to the mainland suburbs maybe?
There are also so many parallels between Steph and Danny that never get explored:
• Steph is suburbs based hero, who lives in the suburb she protects
[Danny is also a suburban, small time hero like Steph (who isn't a part of any young hero groups, or a member of the justice league, etc. She's only in Gotham (pre-death)]
• Steph's family is middle class, but has money issues due to her father's crime and mother's drug addiction
[I'm not sure if the Fentons ever canonically have money issues, but they appear to be middle class as well, and Steph really does have the closest socio-ecenomic level, and therefore pre-hero life experiences, to Danny]
• Steph's dad is Cluemaster, a failed game show host turned criminal, and at once both a brilliant criminal, and a fool who kept getting caught because of his obsession with leaving behind elaborate clues and game show inspired puzzles/hints. He was in prison for so much of her life because of this obsession with crime and clues that Steph hardly spent any time with him.
[The Dr's Fenton are brilliant, genius scientists who can make a portal to a dimension they can't prove exists but are utterly incapable of catching a ghost, never realise Phantom is their son, and spend all their time and lives obsessed with ghost hunting and not raising or caring for their children]
• Steph became a vigilante because of her dad's (criminal) actions, and named herself due to him (she's going to spoil his plans after he stops leaving clues after the latest release from prison, and she will leave them instead so the police will catch him again).
[Danny became a halfa because of the portal, started fighting ghosts because of the portal, and names himself Phantom because of being a halfa]
• Steph isn't trusted/believed in/supported by the majority of the 'real vigilantes/heroes' [batfam, birds of prey] - Bruce switches between ignoring her, disavowing her and ordering everyone else to shut her out, or supporting and training her before going back to kicking her out and telling her to go home and hang up the cape, and other adult heroes who know about her home life and situation only tell her to stop being a vigilante and don't actually really step in to help her.
Black canary helped Steph kick her dad and his criminal buddies - including the Riddler! - out of their house when he comes home from prison but that's the most support Steph ever gets from adults.
Tim is supportive of Steph but also agrees with Bruce she shouldn’t be a vigilante and never hides his disapproval at the start until they grow close. When they're dating, Tim knows Steph's vigilante and civilian ID but Steph only knows him as Robin, Steph grows unhappy and tries to find out his civilian ID despite promising not to, and their relationship isn't the healthiest (on both sides), because they're both vigilante teenagers with complicated views on life and relationships, and not great role models.
Cass starts off not very friendly then slowly become friends with Steph until Gotham Knights Vol 1 #37, where Steph fails a test Bruce set for her and Bruce completely disavows her. Tim is the only bat that still talks to her after that, Cass follows Bruce's orders and their friendship is gone. They don't become close again until Steph is Robin, just before Steph dies.
Cluemaster knows Steph is Spoiler (Batman told him when he was going to pour acid onto her face), and has her kidnapped, threatens to kill her mother and her if she interferes with his plans again, and is a very present and real danger to her.
[Danny isn't supported by any of the adults in his life, has a contentious to outright unfriendly relationship with vigilante Valerie and a romance with civilian Valerie - also with ID complication, and the GIW certainly aren't supporting or safe at all for Phantom. His parents are constantly trying to capture him to "tear him apart molecule by molecule" when they're not neglecting Danny, and Vlad is Vlad.
The only support Danny alway has and can rely on are Sam, Tucker and Jazz.]
[This is all post crisis pre flashpoint canon, I'm not sure about The New 52 and onwards]
Just, even when people are mentioning liminal bats, Steph often gets passed over for Jason Damian and Cass, sometimes Bruce, but Steph died too! She was also "to the point of death" in the retcon where she survived, I don't think it's ever stated whether she truly did flatline but Batman fully believed she died in front of him so it's not impossible.
Laws of Attraction Ep 8
Actually, I could stop at reblogging @befuddledcinnamonroll post, which expresses my thoughts about the finale, but this is LoA, my beloved series, so I should also write something from myself 😊
I was a little afraid that Charn would actually completely go over to the light side, that he would do something stupid or naive based on his suddenly found faith in goodness and thus endanger his new found family. So I was relieved to see Charn take the bullets, because I knew he must be wearing a bulletproof vest, and I really enjoyed watching the creepy smile bloom on his face after meeting the senator. Yes, Tinn healed his heart, but it didn't make him blind to reality, gullible, and stupid. It was very satisfying. Actually, Tinn saying he doesn't want to change Charn and even affectionately calling him Bad Lawyer was super satisfying. 👍
The only thing Charn possibly did wrong is that he foresaw everything except for the explosive mix that is Nawin with Tinn. Although maybe he knew that the unpredictable Nawin combined with the determined Tinn must end up with the Tinn's escape, who would surely come to his rescue, what Charn maybe... subconsciously wanted? Who knows, it sounds nice, I want to believe it 🥺
I absolutely loved that the series quickly and casually ended the whole story and devoted the rest of the episode to fluff, wedding, Charn and Tinn in domestic situations, showing them madly in love with each other. I was smiling the whole time, the whole ep, this show is pure joy. Even when some guy in prison makes a knife out of a plastic bowl and starts stabbing with it 💀 This series is gold.
I know that Charn organized the entire wedding, because it was a small ceremony only for the closest and trusted people (Nawin was invited! he's a family too!), but perfectly organized down to the smallest detail. This is all Charn.
Nawin is one of the most interesting characters ever to appear in the BL series. He's a perfect character. He literally has no flaws. Dream job is to be Nawin's bodyguard, he provides a constant supply of entertainment. I thought I was going to die laughing when he had his bodyguards curse Tinn and when the bodyguard stood next to him with tissues. He is perfect. PERFECT.
It's good that Tanthai saved himself, and Thee couldn't help him, no matter how hard he tried.
LoA, despite having actors who PERFECTLY showed attraction and sexual tension, did not allow them much in this matter. Actually it didn't really let them do anything. The characters, especially Charn and Tinn, could drill holes in each other with hot stares but kiss like dead fish. And barely touch each other unless they're clothed. When Thee leaned over Tanthai to kiss him in the finale, when Charn looked at Tinn at the wedding with his bedroom eyes, with his mouth parted, I had to take a deep breath and stare at the wall thinking what the fuck a wasted potential this is. This is actually my only complaint about LoA. Because really, after all the pinning, longing, tension and passion sizzling between them, they should do it like rabbits at the first chance they get. (Ok, maybe I have one more complaint: I am once again asking for NO. GUITAR. NO. SINGING.)
Anyway. LoA is a great BL drama with great characters played by great actors. Film played outstandingly, at the highest level. But all of them performed brilliantly, including the villains. In addition, the series had interesting and colorful characters like Rose, Maya, Nawin. The series showed toxic, horrible families as well as good, supportive, loving families. As for a crime series with fake fire and exaggerated action scenes, it treated the victims of the crime in a surprisingly innovative and sensitive way, i.e. a little girl, but also Charn. We know why Charn became like this, the series showed exactly what happened to him. Just as it had shown Tonkhao all along, not only as a victim, but also as a lovely, bright girl - the way Tinn wanted her to be remembered. As a romance LoA also turned out to be sensational. From the beginning, as viewers, we see the characters' feelings, the new ones (Charn and Tinn) and the old ones (Thee and Tanthai), and the show knows exactly what BL and romance fans in general like and showered us with scenes furiously giffed by viewers, rewatched multiple times, that fed us for weeks ;) LoA made it clear what is good and bad, allowed Charn to heal and find hope and love again, but without cheaply moralizing and removing from Charn what we all liked him for. What else I like is that Charn was with Tinn so openly gay and flamboyant, flirty, such a little shit and Tinn liked it and Charn stayed like that. Same Tinn, with his jeans and converse and his beliefs and principles has not changed and Charn likes him that way. For me LoA is the Thai series of the year 👑 I want to thank the people who made it and the fans I enjoyed the series with 🥰
Hope to see more series with Jam and Film. And with Nat (NAWIN)!
Bad Lawyer and Crazy Dog are what Freeloader 3 and Group Leader were in Semantic Error 😎
You should vote Kazui "unforgiven/guilty" in the 2nd trial, here's why:
( Why I think we should vote Kazui guilty )
I don't think we should vote Kazui guilty because he "deserves" it. In MILGRAM, it's not just about whether a prisoner "deserves" that verdict until it's the final trial. Every vote has had a different motive, i.e, most MILGRAM'ers voted Amane guilty not because she "deserved" that verdict, but because they wanted to help teach her a lesson about life being invaluable.
My actual reason for wanting to vote Kazui guilty for this trial is because I believe the "risks" people are speaking of are out of question. Many innocent voters are claiming that without Kazui, Amane will attack Shidou, and that Kotoko will be unstoppable and potentially kill everyone. I can understand the concern, but I find this to be an unrealistic reason to vote Kazui innocent. MILGRAM cannot predict exactly what we will vote, but at the very least, they would have a character's story written from start to finish. Will a prisoner end up in shambles? Maybe. But for a prisoner to actually die? That's obviously a no-go. Not only is that an abrupt, improvised stop from a storyboarding perspective that would never be approved, but MILGRAM knows far better than to do something that could be so trivial and even stunt further growth of the series.
With that being said, I believe that voting Kazui guilty, at least in the 2nd trial, will not be as “bad” of an idea as people are making it out to be. In fact, voting him innocent seems to be the worse and less logical option here. Because unlike Shidou and Yuno, who already have innocent verdicts for the 2nd trial, giving Kazui a double-innocent verdict will be inefficient, non-insightful, will overall stunt his character growth, and will likely leave us without the full picture in the 3rd and final trial. While Shidou and Yuno will have obvious reactions stirred from their double-innocent verdicts (Shidou’s internal struggles + savior complex and Yuno’s distaste with how she’s being perceived), Kazui receiving yet another innocent verdict will not be doing us any sort of favor. His feelings of guilt have already been almost completely washed away, and the previous innocent verdict made him feel at least a little validated in his crime, at least enough for him to take off his wedding ring. At the end of Kazui’s voice drama, he tells us himself, in order to understand him, we need to dive deeper into his sins. The only way we can do that is by stirring a possible reaction out of him, which would be to vote guilty.
Lastly, this is a bit more flimsy than the rest of what I had said, but I also believe that MILGRAM may be hinting at us as to what to vote for Kazui’s 2nd trial, judged by how each character is positioned in their song cover.
Muu and Haruka are both facing the same way, with their backs towards us, staring into the camera with a sly expression. Innocent -> Guilty.
Fuuta and Mahiru are both facing the same way, with their backs fully to the door and looking directly towards the audience, looking at the camera with a panicked expression. Guilty -> Innocent.
Shidou and Yuno are both facing the same way, opposite to Muu and Haruka, and with their backs towards us, staring into the camera with a neutral or composed expression. Innocent -> Innocent.
Kazui is facing the same way as Muu and Haruka, with his back towards us, and what do you know? Staring into the camera with a sly expression similar to that of Muu and Haruka’s.
Again, this might not hold any true weight, but someone has already pointed out that MILGRAM /does/ actually consider the positions of each prisoner, considering all 1st trial innocent verdicts are facing /towards/ their door, while all the 1st trial guilty verdicts are facing /away/ from their door.
TLDR: Kazui might not actually “deserve” a guilty verdict in the sense of it being a punishment of sorts, but voting him guilty is more likely to be beneficial for us as an audience above all, which, is what should matter more in the long run.
part 2 of Debbie getting jealous at Sam plsss
Part two below; Here's part three:
“You know she loves you, Debs. Right?”
“Sam does?” Debbie teased. “She knows I’m married, right?”
“Lou, you pain in the ass,” Tammy hissed. “I don’t know why I put up with your bullshit, Ocean.”
“You love me,” Debbie sang, her energy waning as she decided to stop trying to deflect and actually let Tammy know how she felt. “I know she does,” Debbie nodded, whispering it like a secret. “And I know she has every right to a sponsor. And a friend. And someone to confide in. And I just—god, I already sound like a manipulative bitch.”
“No,” Tammy promised her. “You just sound like you love your partner and you wish there was more you could do for them.”
“Yeah.”
“And you’re not saying you don’t trust Lou, because I know you do, but you’re scared that you don’t deserve the happiness that you have right now.”
“Everything’s been so good, Tam,” Debbie whispered, surprised to feel tears prickling at her eyes. “What if it’s been too good?”
Debbie didn’t really know what drove someone to go off on a bender. She supposed that they hit their breaking point or rock bottom or whatever they wanted to call it, with no sticks or carrots left, only down to go, because what did up even matter anymore?
And the ironic thing was, she definitely knew what rock bottom was. It was laying on your back on the disgusting floor of a holding cell, hissing at yourself not to cry. Hating that the love of your life had been right. Because that meant that you’d ruined everything and murdered the chance of staying with the love of your life.
It was looking at years behind bars. Of betraying her partner in crime and her partner in life. Of being royally screwed over by her business partner she’d been stupid enough to trust.
Danny Ocean visited prison like he went to the grocery store. Debbie Ocean had sworn up and down that she would never step foot in a prison unless she was merely visiting the other Ocean.
Rock bottom was watching being told to strip down, peeling off a skin-tight dress you thought a man would be peeling off of you for a night of celebratory sex that certainly wasn’t the best you’d ever had, but supposedly was good enough. Even if you wished his cologne was different. Even if you were picturing something different. Wishing it was her. Not him. It was still something, right? And now it wasn’t even that?
Handing over Danny’s watch and seeing it get slipped into a ziplock bag in front of her felt like the final nail in the coffin.
“Wedding rings?” A guard had asked, eyeing Debbie’s left hand.
“No,” Debbie had answered blankly, suddenly fixated on her bare ring finger.
Maybe that’s what had actually been rock bottom. Realizing that there could have been a ring on that finger. A wife by her side. And that she wouldn’t have had to take it off and dump it into a plastic bag to sit in god-only-knows-where for hopefully less than six years because Lou would have never gotten into this mess.
Yeah. That had been rock bottom. But it hadn’t really been possible to go on a drinking binge. And she was already a criminal. What was she going to start doing? Shoplifting? Debbie scoffed.
She had let her feelings out, mostly at night, waiting for the tears to come. They never came over Claude. Over being conned. Over failing. But they came for Danny. They came for Lou. There seemed to be an endless supply of tears for Lou.
And once she’d gotten out, she’d started screaming. At the mausoleum demanding what gave Danny the right to think he could just go off and die and abandon her just as she was finally getting her shit together. At the top of her lungs into the howling winds and busy streets full of screaming and honking and traffic where no one could hear.
But there was no other urge to start up a habit, good or bad. It was more trying to break the habits of her past. Hiding things from Lou. Feelings. Intentions. Emotions. Plans.
But as she started to let those feelings and secrets out, there were some things she still bottled up. The nightmares. The PTSD. Lou had enough shit on her plate to deal with. Debbie didn’t need to dump her own past on her partner.
Lou only needed to be accountable to herself and her sponsor and her sobriety. She didn’t need to know how truly bad prison was. How much Debbie had truly suffered. Even if she had. It was over now. Right?
And she definitely, definitely didn’t need to do what Tammy had told her to do and tell Lou the truth about Sam. She could be jealous. Jealousy was common enough. Reasonable. Partners wanted to do and be everything for their partners and sometimes they just couldn’t. That’s where Sam came in. It did Debbie no good to tell Lou how she felt, even though Lou would understand. Because Tammy had. And because Lou always did.
But suddenly, Debbie’s chest was getting tight and her vision was blurring. Her heart was racing. She couldn’t see right in front of her, phone on the floor, unsure when or how she’d dropped it. Only the distant echo of Lou in the background. At least she thought Lou was there. And another distant voice.
“Does this happen a lot? Should I call an ambulance?”
Suddenly, Lou’s hand was flat against her heart and her fingers were stroking back her hair. When had her forehead gotten so sweaty? How had Lou gotten into her cell? Past security? And who was this other person with her?
“I’m here, Debs,” Lou whispered. “You’re having a panic attack. I need you to breathe with me, honey. I’ve got you, I promise. I just need you to breathe. Slow. In and out. Just focus on breathing.”
Huge numbers of morlock women are thinking the clothes as they see them dying and they are Chrissy got their men for not getting it because it makes more of them and simply defending would work so it's beginning and it's huge finally that was terrible
Thor Freya
I said the bottom part there's other stuff happening it's pretty big. And they're going to arrest tons of these people and for real crimes and they're going to start shortly the event was the clones that's happening here too and it just heated up and cops are going in everywhere and their minority morlock and regular sheriff and they're arresting both sides constantly and it's a huge huge arrest going on right now. And there are other things too they're people who are running around in Vegas and the sheriff in Port Charlotte and punta Gorda has stated that they're going to go after them because they're nasty to them and they got permission they said finally and I ordered them to anyways so they said good and there's some other stuff happening this Chinese food thing it's caused a lot of racism from the clones and the morlock and they are getting fought. And very hard they are taking hits and big ones and the morlock minority are after them and for blood literally, and it works better to dope with it they say. It is a wicked fight and it's getting pretty big and it is caused by today's event. Which leads me to Utah there's a whole bunch of people talking about it and lawyers and so forth and our lawyer is connected beside the paper to Ellie and John and yeah the same lawyer that kicked him out of the family and the paper will say you're in receipt of items that are due to our son from a will that you stole because you are not immediate family as you listed and you committed fraud and you also are complicitous with their demise and he'll list off some evidence and him demand the items and they'll say I don't think so then they're going to court and they're going to jail prison as it should I lied about everything and they were trying to harm her and she's vice president and they do shoot at her and maybe they probably win and people are attacking them because they're in court and attacking bjA more and it revives it. Is a huge number of people heading west a lot of them are not bjA and they will fight, since he's the one who started this fight and lost their bases and areas. And they say it out loud all the time. We're going to war with you idiots this afternoon your stupid pigs and we're going to take all the stuff you're not the good guy because you're going after someone to die that's ridiculous but he doesn't every time he's an insane little a******. I'm talking about trump. And today he might be indicted well they said next week but he is court cases to go to today not as Trump but he has five court cases in punta Gorda and three in Port Charlotte any plans on missing some of them and he's going to be arrested there's a few others who are going to be arrested because they're doing that. And several more things happening here the max are sick of these people and so we their act is bad the talk is horrible and nobody wants to put up with him anymore and push this comes to shove and they're going to try and find ways to get them out. They are flying missions from Florida to hit a holes no one big reason is Tommy f has an invasion Force and he is blocking that activity by mathematics. If you go ahead and do that he might start and take over so it has been banned and people are seeking his hardware finding it and taking it there's a huge bunch of that left Puerto Rico last night and unloading the ships led to it they are also losing a lot of threats and power because the women are tired of them and it's translated to them 50% global Force for The invasion because of people going after them top side and it's becoming a huge event and people see it so they are attacking the clones and getting information and getting stuff and stopping their invasion we think by the end of the day they were lost to 75% of their hardware in about 80% of the army that was dedicated to do so. That's huge news so we're going to publish
Hera
Zues
We have other items to discuss and we'll we'll do so shortly
people who think that jimmy should've taken the 7 years deal
#bcs#better call saul#bcs spoilers#better call saul spoilers#jimmy mcgill#specifically One Guy i saw on reddit but like anyone who thinks this kind of missed the point of his actions imo#the whole show has been about this guy and his inability to cope in healthy ways - his brother hating him and later his eventual death#after that howard's death and his divorce#we see hints of it during the early seasons - whenever jimmy feels dejected#or put down he goes back to cons and scams so he can feel like a winner again. so he can be on top for once#the whole saul goodman persona is him trying to distract himself from how devoid his life actually is of any deep meaningful relationships#jimmy confessing in the finale is his acceptance of what he's done. he's finally stopped running from everything#is he going to die in prison for his crimes? maybe. but he's finally stopped lying to himself#he can finally start to move on after repressing everything all these years#it's a bittersweet ending but it was perfect imo
---
VOD LINKS:
Quackity
Hannahxxrose
---
It opens with a shadowy shot of the L’manburg crater, sinking down to the L’manburg flag...
-
NOTHING LEFT
-
An animated title sequence plays.
—
LAS NEVADAS: SEASON FINALE
—
Quackity walks out of the prison. There’s a flashback to Quackity interrogating Dream about Techno’s escape.
-
LESSONS
3 MONTHS BEFORE THE PRISON VISIT
-
- Slime walks up the spiral stairs of the hotel, meeting Quackity there. The two sit down, and Quackity explains that he is going to be visiting some “friends” soon, and he could die. Slime reminds Quackity of himself when he first arrived on the server. He wants to teach Slime everything he knows so that if Quackity doesn’t come back, he needs Slime to be able to take over for him when he dies
WEEK 1: Humans are assholes and they are going to gatekeep at any chance they get
- Quackity shows Slime the ruins of L’manburg, reminiscing on how he was rejected from L’manburg because he wasn’t British
WEEK 2: Politics are the way to power
- Quackity tells Slime that he has to create relationships with people he doesn’t like and sieze power through politics, telling the story of SWAG2020 and the Manberg cabinet, how that’s the way to power
Slime: “Quackity from Las Nevadas...do I need to want power?”
Quackity flashes back to his memories of Schlatt’s administration, being confronted by Tubbo and Niki, both distraught
WEEK 5: Create no emotional attachments to anything. Everything gets destroyed
- Quackity recites to Slime the stories of Wilbur and Dream and their downfalls, then his own: he wanted to build a nation until his friends abandoned him
- Slime asks if Las Nevadas is going to be destroyed. Quackity tells him he has to love the country like he does
WEEK 6: Hold your ground against authority
- Quackity teaches Slime about Mexican L’manburg and how he stood against authority to protect it. Not against good authority though, only bad (Quackity does an impression of Dream, dressing up as him to teach Slime about “bad authority”)
Slime: “Maybe one day I’ll teach you something!”
Quackity: “...You have.”
WEEK 10: Trust nobody
- Quackity tells Slime about how George didn’t show up to the election, how his friends made a country without him. Everyone he’s trusted has turned against him
(There’s a flashback to Sam talking with Dream, hiding him in secret)
- Slime tells Quackity that he trusts him. Should he stop? Quackity tells him that the people Quackity really cares about are the people he keeps around him. Slime is the only person he’s kept around for so long
- Slime tells Quackity that he doesn’t actually have 300 bones
WEEK 11: Seek successful revenge because if you fail, the consequences are going to be bitter
- Quackity has a flashback to hunting down Technoblade with the Butcher Army, putting together plans –
Slime: “is it worth it?”
Quackity: “What?”
Slime: “I’ve been watching for a long time and one person lashes out, then the other does, until they’re both gone. From what I’ve seen, it feels like people don’t stop taking that revenge...is it ever worth it?”
Quackity: “No...no it’s not.”
FINAL WEEK: Legacy is all you leave behind in this world
- Quackity tells Slime that his legacy is Las Nevadas, and that’s why he cares for it so long. Legacy is what people leave behind
Slime: “Let’s leave behind a good one.”
- A page flips, and Purpled recites:
---
“I’ve not yet forgotten Quackity’s heinous crimes against my heritage. The UFO explosion is a crime which I will not, and cannot forgive. I’ve been trying to get closer to everyone in order to appear friendly. However, Slime seems to be Quackity’s new puppet. Disappointing. I notice the weekly pattern. This puts a dent in my plan to sieze power through friendly diplomacy. I have to change my strategy. I’ll have to strategize through Slime and try to squeeze him out of any valuable information. And when the time seems right, I’ll do whatever I have to do.”
---
- Quackity sees Slime in his bedroom. He wants to give one last piece of advice: he’s never been lucky, so he has to make his own luck.
Quackity: “Remember one thing, Slime: The house always wins. And guess what? We are the house, so we will always win.”
-
LOOSE ENDS
2 DAYS BEFORE THE PRISON VISIT
-
- Sapnap is wandering around Las Nevadas, marveling at the place
- Quackity sees him and greets him gleefully, excited to finally reunite
- Sapnap asks if he’s heard of Kinoko, that he should come see it. Quackity quickly brings him around on a tour of the place. Sapnap asks him again if he’s seen Karl. Quackity hasn’t, but he’s seen George
- Quackity says Las Nevadas has been busy. They have the grand opening coming up, he doesn’t know if he can make a trip to Kinoko. Sapnap insists that they go
- As thunder booms, Quackity tells Sapnap that they left to make a country without him. Sapnap is confused – Karl sent out an invitation, but Quackity didn’t get one, and nobody forgets an invitation like that
- Sapnap tells him to come see Karl right now and find out the truth...
There’s an image of the El Rapids Supremacy sign
----
- Quackity and Sapnap enter Kinoko Kingdom. Quackity notes that the style is like the style he wanted for El Rapids
- Sapnap shows him around to the military building that he overseas. Quackity asks if they have any enemies – they might have some soon...
- He also shows Quackity Tina’s house, the newest member of the server and resident of Kinoko
- Sapnap tells him they’re welcome to new members, but Quackity is busy with Las Nevadas. They go over to the library and Quackity asks how long after they stopped talking did they start on this. Sapnap says it was decently soon after
- They run into Karl at the library. Karl’s eyes have turned yellow. Quackity points out things about Kinoko that remind him of stuff they had back in New L’manburg
- Karl was thinking of making a rollercoaster on his house. Quackity points out that he already did...
- Sapnap and Quackity ask if he remembers El Rapids, all their missions
- Karl suddenly pulls Sapnap aside, asking why he brought the guy who was the reason he died here. Quackity and Sapnap are shocked – this is Quackity!
- Sapnap and Quackity try to remind him that Karl’s death was a plan that all of them agreed on to legitimize Mexican L’manburg, but Karl doesn’t remember agreeing to it. Quackity snaps at Karl about not being invited to Kinoko
Karl: “I don’t know anything about you except you’re the reason I died!”
- They walk out of the house shouting at each other, Sapnap trying to shout that it’s just a joke
Quackity: “What, you’re just gonna ignore all the history we’ve had together Karl, you’re gonna be an asshole like that?!”
Karl: “WHAT HISTORY?”
- Quackity rants at Karl that he’s worked on everything alone, he’s never needed to work with anyone else, he’s only done it himself
- Karl runs away from Quackity in the rain. Quackity shouts that if Karl ever tries to come across him or Las Nevadas, there will be problems. Karl orders Sapnap to get Quackity out of here
- Quackity tells Sapnap that Sapnap is still welcome, but he doesn’t want Karl around him. Quackity leaves, enraged
There’s a flashback to the Mexican L’manburg protest and the all of them planning Karl’s death.
-
DAY OF THE VISIT
-
Quackity enters the prison and there’s another flashback to Techno’s escape and the chaos that ensued afterwards, as Quackity discovers that Dream is seemingly missing as well.
---
- Quackity is running through Las Nevadas, beckoning Slime over to him. He needs to find the others. Purpled comes running over to them. Purpled tells them that somebody left a chest...
- Quackity is suspicious of the chest, but Slime runs over to open it instead. They turn around and Purpled flips a lever, sending them tumbling down into a fall trap
- They’re on a platform above the lava, and Purpled confronts Quackity about the prison visit. He wants the revival book for himself
- Quackity tells Purpled that Dream and Techno are out of prison. Purpled puts on a suit of Netherite to kill Quackity for the book unless he gives up the book. The two begin to fight
Quackity: “Even if I did have the fucking book...I wouldn’t give it to you.”
- Purpled turns and hits Slime off the edge of the platform into the lava below. Quackity jumps in after him, trying to save Slime, but it’s not use
Slime: “Thank you for showing me what it’s like to be human...maybe I almost was.”
Slime perishes in the lava.
-
WEEKS LATER
-
There’s a shot of Quackity by some bookshelves. He goes down into Slime’s room. Slime is there, greener than before and unmoving, and Quackity’s brought him two books. He’s been researching slimes, hoping to help Slime walk and talk again. He doesn’t know if Slime even remembers him. He’s been writing down everything Slime ever did.
Quackity: “You’re more than slime, you’re human. So it’s gonna sounds silly, but I came up with a name for you. I came up with...Charlie. I kinda like it.”
- He notices that there’s one more book than normal in the chest...a book that Slime wrote, filled with random letters
- Quackity runs off to try and figure it out, going to the library Foolish
The two of them notice that certain letters are spaced apart from the others.
L... E... G... A... C... Y
Legacy.
- Quackity runs back to tell Charlie he figured it out, but Charlie is already gone.
---
Quackity welcomes everyone to the grand opening of Las Nevadas, inviting everyone to indulge themselves in luxury and thrills...
“So...are you ready to try your luck?”
---
- Hannah later streams on the SMP. Technoblade is online, and Ranboo, Sam and Callahan log on later
---
The Dream SMP Season Finale will continue on SUNDAY with Technoblade’s Jailbreak stream
I read your post with interest and I'm happy to reblog it 😊
I liked the ending for one simple reason: Great went to the police, thus making his sins public, which for me covers what I expect from productions like DFF or 4Minutes, or in general those about a crime: an admission of wrongdoing and punishment. IF Great and Tyme had a HEA and Great never paid for what he did, I would have NEVER accepted this ending.
To me, what Great is doing now is also logical. Great was a weak, cowardly, passive, constantly influence by other people, an immature boy with potential depression and possibly neurosis (his behavior, apathy, stomach pains are very telling). His 4Minutes visions of himself showed that he was aware of this and would like to be different. The fact that he tries to become like this after experiencing death is also logical to me (I know about people after such experiences who often go through drastic changes in their lives), in addition, he has someone to be like this for, which was already clear earlier, when real events were shown: Great wanted to help Tyme, for the first time he actively wanted to do something for someone.
That's why their HEA doesn't bother me as much as in The Last Twilight or OF, because we don't even know if it will be like this, or if Great didn't have to go to prison after all. Tyme is also not completely free from his revenge and dark thoughts. Both of them will also have to live for the rest of their lives with the awareness of how much death surrounded them, how many of these deaths they contributed to, or how many of them they didn't stop. After all, Great saw the death of at least 3 people with his own eyes, his brother killed himself, his parents are on the run, his name, family, family business are compromised, now there is also what he himself did. Tyme saw his own grandmother die, which he contributed to a lot. They still have a long way to happiness, and the only thing I can find fault with is that the series didn't show it, and instead focused on the cute scenes of GreatTyme (which I'm not complaining about because I like them lmao).
tl;dr I accept and like this ending, because I see that it's not as perfect and happy as it seems, although it would be good if the series showed more of it, not that the viewers had to fill it in for themselves 🤔 But maybe the focus on romance in the finale is something that the producers force on the writers, we had the same complaints about in the DFF finale and you know, romance and sex sells 🤷♀️
Hot Take: Be On Cloud and Sammon out GMMTV-ed GMMTV with that lame-ass 4 Minutes finale
(TW: Ummm, this ended up being a rant, so don't read this if you enjoyed that finale.)
WOW.
This is not the central thesis of this post at all, but I need to get this off my chest, FIRST OF AWL: GET AN ORIGINAL OST. WOW.
LIKE, ACTUALLY, I want to not get into this, but I actually need to talk about this for a second. ICONIC OSTs like, SAY, "Why Don't You Stay" or "Just Friend" (OR THE DARK BLUE KISS THEME SONG, THE BEST ONE) are meant to invoke THE SHOW FROM WHICH THAT SONG HAILS, AND THE FEELINGS THAT THAT PARTICULAR SHOW MADE ONE FEEL. WHAT THE FUCK WAS 4 MINUTES THINKING?! THIS SHOW WAS NOT KINNPORSCHE. NOT AT ALL. I FELT NO KP FROM 4 MINUTES. I hope Jeff Satur sues BOC for copyright infringement. ANYWAY.
I mean, this is gonna be messy, but in yet another case of shippy roooooomance, a kind of rooooomance that's supposed to leave us feeling like the central couple is worth redeeming against both the obstacles that the story gives them, AND/OR a weak script as well (I wrote about this recently during a rewatch of The Eclipse), I mean, BOC and Sammon just threw an otherwise really amazing storyline to the dogs.
We were supposed to get a lot of moral and ethical loops closed here. I would have been okay with a Ton Kla redemption! I would have been okay with Korn living the rest of his life in pain and suffering for neglecting Ton Kla! Instead, they're both "redeemed" by their own deaths?! I get Win being upset, but Win, you knew who you were sleeping with! Come awn!
AND. I'm supposed to believe that Great is worth redemption because he threw a corrupt government minister under the bus and prevented his parents from coming back to Thailand, while we see him walking away from a woman having a heart attack???? Like, THAT'S NOT GOOD!!!! He's had a messy life, but he's not necessarily a good person, folks!!! HELLO!!! "He's a good person?!" TYME?? Like, Great's hot, BUT LIKE, DON'T BE LIKE THAT, TYME, GURL, ACTUALLY LOOK THRU AT WHO YOU'RE DATING.
ALSO, TYME, HIPPOCRATIC OATH, DUDE. I KNOW YOU WANT THAT GUY DEAD, AND HE DESERVES BAD THINGS, BUT YOU CAN'T MAIM HIM PURPOSELY, HOMEY, YOU'RE ABOUT TO BECOME A PROFESSOR.
And LIKE, WHAT THE FUCK, putting a whole new story point about Warit's kidnapping from some dude named Wanchai who we don't even know, and finding out that Warit is a general?!?! It was JUST CONFUSING.
Also, Den dating a patient. I know medical ethics are probably different in Thailand, but they cannot be THAT DIFFERENT, friends, they can't (right? right?).
And. Finally. TYME GOT SHOT MULTIPLE TIMES IN THE CHEST AREA. He survived after two months of recovery?! HE SURVIVED POINT-BLANK SHOOTING?!?!?!??!?!?! AND GREAT SURVIVED HIS POINT-BLANK SHOOTING, TOO?!?!?!?!
LISTEN. LISTEN. I get that BOC wants GreatTyme together. JesBible are a good pair. It's fine Great and Tyme are together. It's nice.
But there was an ACTUAL storyline, told WONDERFULLY for seven episodes, that had these characters in moral and ethical chokeholds that could have received different and very much more appropriate endings. This is fiction, of course, but the moral and ethical prisons these characters were in were very real-to-life by way of what humans value, and how you balance those values against the real-time decisions that humans need to make for themselves and their families.
Instead, BOC took the wild GMMTV playbook of late (The Eclipse, 23.5, Only Friends, Wandee Goodday, even Last Twilight and My Precious) and just railroaded ethical explorations for, my GAWD, guitars and boats. GUITARS AND BOATS! If either Great or Tyme had died, how would the story have expressed regret, uncommunicated feelings, unsolved mysteries?
The ending sucked the mystery out of this series, and frankly, made light of the fact that we were not in a Series Y for seven-eighths of a runtime, only to truly suck us back into Y territory -- real, sugary, cheesy Y territory, GUITARS, THE KP OST OMG -- that just clashed with the tonality of what was shaping up to be a great queer crime murder mystery show. GMMTV already does this. BOC did not need to go there.
Funny that some of us are watching Kidnap now, and commenting (I'm stealing @shortpplfedup's words here) that Kidnap is not a crime BL, but a crime BL. Kidnap knows what it is: it is shaping up to be a fun, unserious Y series that's centered around two himbos not really understanding the consequences of their decisions, and being googly while doing it. It seems to be taking its unseriousness seriously. Good on GMMTV for taking initiative there.
4 Minutes? 4 Minutes needs moral closure, not sappy romance. I could have used a hint that we were gonna get punked earlier. I wouldn't have taken this show as seriously as I did if I had known otherwise.
Also, the writers' failure to understand, every crime Jason committed had a motive. Attack other criminals? Holy warrior destined to purify the world of evil. Attack Bruce? Joker's still alive. (Oh, Jason, it's much worse than that.) Attack Tim? A parody of what he once was. He wasn't just a "bad boy". He was dangerously insane.
Hi, Anon! Yup, there seems to be a lot of things that writers have gotten confused about Jason Todd/Red Hood and the biggest one is his motivations to kill certain criminals.
Let’s be honest, Judd Winick set a golden path for the upcoming Red Hood writers. But each and every writer that used Red Hood in their stories completely missed the point of Jason’s character. All of them. It’s so incredibly wild to me that every other writer read UtRH and came up with whichever version of Jason they came up with.
Let’s list the writers that completely missed the point.
Geoff Johns in Teen Titans vol.3 #29.
Geoff Johns was one of the first to completely mischaracterize Jason, why on earth would Jason go to the Titans Tower to beat up Tim? This is not me saying that Jason would never do that because Jason thinks of Tim as his brother or a friend or the person that he can trust the most from the Bat-Clan (can you believe Lobdell tried to sell us that one?), this is me saying that Jason wouldn’t have done that because he couldn’t have given less of a fuck about Tim’s existence.
When Jason found out that Bruce had another Robin he wasn’t bothered by his “replacement” he was mad at Bruce for having another child playing hero after he lost his life as a fifteen-year-old. Jason didn’t even think of Tim as his replacement as fandom likes to make us believe, Jason called Tim “pretender”. And that was that, but to go from minimal recognition to go out of his way to beat him up at Titans Tower is a massive mischaracterization.
Paul Dini in Countdown (to Final Crisis).
Paul Dini in Countdown did absolutely nothing with Jason, I am sorry but that’s all he did. Him writing Jason was like watching a dog trying to catch their own tail. He started with a pretty basic take on UtRH Jason, then he added a bit of Jason being an annoying man with Donna, then we had the jealousy arc because apparently, Jason had the hots for Donna but she didn’t want anything to do with him and he was all angsty when she paid attention to Kyle instead of him, and then, later on, he had that whole Red Robin bullshit (I am sorry about this, but I absolutely hated that, it was so dumb, I am so glad it didn’t last long because it was just too bad), and after all that mix of just not interesting stuff he went right back to the Jason that he had at the very start. It was a waste of time, but I guess that he had to be there because he was an anomaly and all that. I just think that was DC’s first try at making Jason Todd/Red Hood something more than just a street-level vigilante and they failed miserably.
Tony S. Daniel in Batman: Battle for the Cowl.
Even though the first two did make mistakes with Jason’s characterizations, this man was the first to just throw UtRH out of the window and make up his very own version of Jason Todd. And his version was horrendous, that Jason had no problem with attempting to kill children and innocent people, he also really wanted to be Batman because Gotham needed a Batman and he wanted to be the person to wear the Cowl and he was looking for a Robin for himself.
I know, the whole concept is the perfect opposite of what Jason Todd and Red Hood were in UtRH. Every aspect of BftC Jason is based on nothing.
Jason wanting to be Batman because Gotham needed Batman is just the beginning of what’s wrong in this book. Jason became the Red Hood (in part) because he believed that Batman and his ways weren’t what Gotham needed so he made a better version of Batman with Red Hood (according to him) because Red Hood did what Batman refused to do. Another thing that is just wrong is Jason wanting, Damian, Tim or Dick to be his Robin, there is just so much wrong with this, first of all, Jason wanted Batman to stop having Robin because child soldiers ran the risk of dying at a very young age and that’s exactly how he saw the whole thing because that was what had happened to him. Second, if Jason was mad at Bruce for getting another Robin why would he now want one of his own to team up with his Batman? Damian was a child, Tim was someone that apparently Jason hated (because Jason beating Tim was mentioned in this event), and then Jason actually asked Dick Grayson, Nightwing, to be his Robin? Listen, there is no way that was Jason, nothing about him makes sense, even taking into account that Jason had beaten Tim already in this event Jason actually tried to kill both Tim and Damian (it might have been just one of them but yeah, it still doesn’t make sense).
I just don’t think that Tony S. Daniel knew who Jason Todd was, maybe he got confused but the thing is, his “villainous” and deranged version of Jason Todd allowed a villainous and deranged version of Red Hood to happen with the next writer that I will be talking about.
Grant Morrison in Batman and Robin vol.1 #3-6.
This was the birth of the villainous, deranged and bloodthirsty Red Hood. There is absolutely no trace of UtRH Jason here, not even if we are looking at the opposite of things like we could do with Daniel’s Jason. Grant Morrison wanted Dick and Damian to have a villain to match their Batman and Robin and they decided to give us a red-haired-pill-headed-red hood. Everything from Morrison’s characterization of Jason is crazy, from the red hair (hello pre-crisis) to the awful Joker’s Red Hood looking suit, everything was just weird.
I still don’t believe that was Jason, to be honest, I would rather think that version of Jason was actually a rouge Skrull that came all the way from the Marvel Universe and lost his way in Gotham City. Maybe when he made the jump between universes, he got too much information and got confused and took the form of the wonkiest Jason Todd he could come up with.
This Jason was absolutely deranged, he knew exactly what he was doing and he didn’t care if innocents died. This Jason was the one that got locked up in Arkham. This is the Jason that Dick put in Arkham for Jason and everybody else’s safety.
Dick putting that Jason in Arkham wasn’t a bad thing or something that anyone can use to shit on Dick Grayson (not on this house). This Arkham was reformed and that Jason knew that if he stayed in that new Arkham he would stay away from trouble, but here is the thing, that Jason loved trouble, so he took all the tests to prove he wasn’t insane and asked to be transferred to Blackgate (where all the Red Hood’s enemies were). That Jason didn’t ask to be sent to Blackgate because the Joker was a cell away from his in Arkham, he did it so he could go on a killing spree in Blackgate (which he did when he got there).
Skrull Jason was just bloodthirsty and nothing like UtRH Jason, he had no motive other than just killing for fun or whatever. He didn’t want to protect Gotham and he couldn’t have cared less about the drug trade in Gotham. In Batman and Robin vol.1. Jason Todd was unrecognizable. And luckily, we never saw him again.
Scott Lobdell in Everything that he ever wrote about Red Hood.
This one is pretty self-explanatory. Lobdell was the king of overpowering Jason, he was the one that drove Red Hood farther and farther away from his street-level vigilante status. He continuously added more to him, he was a big deal because he was meant to take down Ra’s al Ghul, he was a big deal because he was the only human to train in the All-Castle and learned to summon the All-Blades.
This Red Hood’s morals and ideals were kind of gone, there just wasn’t any kind of interest in Jason to get rid of drugs or try to control its trade in Gotham, he just had no interest in street-level threats, everything was extraordinary in both New 52 and Rebirth. If he wasn’t in space he was in some mystical land. His friends and allies became even more and more powerful, his level of power was completely off compared to the others. His personality was ever-changing and quite honestly you could barely see the Jason that he once was.
This Jason also was very inconsistent in the way that he felt towards people (obviously because Lobdell is a shitty writer), he wanted to follow Batman’s rules and was shown as someone that still had fond memories of his life with Bruce before he died but was also willing to let those memories go, to move on? Maybe? I don’t know. But he changed his mind about Bruce and following his rules or not for a very long time. Jason was also a little bitch about Dick, and he was a little bitch because he (Lobdell) never gave the reader or anyone a concrete reason as to why he hated him so much and then in Rebirth he decided that Dick wasn’t that bad. Also, Jason went from “Willis Todd, abusive husband and father that deserved to die” to “Willis Todd abusive husband and father but he sent me letters when he was in prison and Penguin had him killed so now, I really want to avenge him”. Yeah, I don’t really know why that happened and like most of Lobdell’s arcs and stuff it was never really completed or well thought out.
Lobdell’s Jason characterization was a mess for ten years and that’s the prime reason why Jason is a character with no solid background, story or future.
James Tynion IV in Red Hood and the Outlaws.
Tynion’s Jason Todd was a hero, he was like a mini Tom King Batman. Everything he did was right and there was just no way that you could bamboozle him. This Jason was able to hold to Blades that drained his soul as well as hosting the Untitled in his body (that were able to drain his soul too) and on top of all that he completed his journey of the Chosen One by making those ancient martial arts moves that he learned before he was Robin even though Talia hadn’t been able to master it yet.
Scott Snyder, Tim Seeley in Batman Eternal and Batman and Robin Eternal.
A mess, this was pure New 52 levels of bullshit and they all just wanted to push the “Batfamily” and while Dick was gone, they were trying to make Jason fill the void that Dick left in Batman events. It didn’t work at all and all they did was mess around with Jason’s characterization more.
Geoff Johns in Three Jokers.
I have talked enough about Johns’ takes on Jason Todd and Red Hood, but let me tell you something real quick, if a writer thinks that the best they can do with a character is make them give up their morals/ideals for an unrequited love interest, then they can keep that idea for themselves. Geoff Johns wrote a book that was absolutely not needed and then proceeded to butcher every characterization that he could, Three Jokers was three issues long and he managed to add more trauma to Jason’s torture, push the narrative of Jason being at fault for his own murder and make Jason’s motivations to be the Red Hood weak enough to make him want to give up his work for a woman that he barely knows (and doesn’t like him at all).
Joshua Williamson in Future State: Red Hood and Robin #5.
Now, with Williamson I have issues only when he writes Jason, not because his stories are bad, don’t get me wrong, I would have completely enjoyed FS: Red Hood if it weren’t for the completely unnecessary Rose/Jason side plot he had going on. Jason was clearly working undercover for some people that he hated working with. He had to arrest or kill “masks” (vigilantes, just like he “used” to be) for the Magistrate.
His ideas were pretty solid, Jason did the job but he never killed the masks and actively didn’t trust the Magistrate but he was working there to tear them apart from within, and that’s amazing if Williamson had given us Jason Todd/Red Hood working undercover to dismantle an organization I would have been really happy.
But that’s not all he gave us, even if I just forget about his failed attempt at giving Jason a relationship, I can still see that Williamson is the kind of writer that wants (or is just following DC) to make the “Batfamily” happen no matter how dumb and out of place it looks in comics’ canon. So, I am a little bit weary, any writer that leans too much towards making Jason and Bruce work together and become a family makes me want to scream, but I do understand that is just me, many people want those two to be buddy-buddy, I, personally, would love to see Jason kick Bruce in the balls and tell him to lose his number.
Chip Zdarsky in Urban Legends: Cheer.
Ah, yes, I remember the days in which I thought that this could have been something good. Well, I was utterly wrong and I suffered all the way through this mini. I feel like now I can safely say that Zdarsky only wanted to write a Batman book but DC told him, “Hey you can write Batman but it has to be within a Red Hood story, but don’t worry, you don’t have to know much about the Hood guy, just come up with something and write Batman around that”.
I know that’s what happened because I read that story and all we got from it was horrible characterizations for pre-Robin Jason, Robin Jason, Jason Todd and Red Hood. I don’t know how he did it but yes, he managed to mess it all up.
From Jason not really wanting to be Robin and acting recklessly every step of the way, to secret desires of a perfect family with Bruce and so many other people that he couldn’t care about, Urban Legends: Cheer is the perfect book to avoid at all costs if you believe that the concept of “Batfamily” is the biggest lie, DC is trying to profit off this time around.
Zdarsky also nerfed Jason in ways that I thought DC only wanted to nerf Dick Grayson. But I was able to see that I was wrong. Zdarsky’s run also pushed some of the most disastrous narratives that DC really wants readers to believe like: Robin Jason wasn’t good at his job, he was too reckless and ultimately his death was his own fault. Yay! I want to cry!
I will give Zdarsky two points for at the very least showing that Red Hood wants to protect children and that he has a huge issue with how the drug trade is controlled and abused in Gotham City, it had been a while since we had seen that aspect of Jason’s Red Hood make an appearance.
-
It’s just too many writers completely missing the point of Red Hood’s character or simply writers agreeing to destroy Jason’s uniqueness in the DC Universe so DC (as the publisher) can further push the abomination that is the “Batfamily” in comics’ canon.
I do agree with you Anon when you say that Jason isn’t just a “bad boy” but I also don’t think that we can call UtRH Jason “dangerously insane”. Personally, I will only use that last description for BftC and Batman and Robin Jason, those two were dangerously insane indeed.
UtRH Jason was very meticulous in who he wanted dead and who got to live. He entered Gotham’s most dangerous world and he had to make a big entrance, he invited the eight most prosperous street dealers to a meeting, showed up with the decapitated heads of each of their right-hand men and an AK-47 and said:
“I am offering you a deal. I will be running the drug trade from now on. You will go about your business as usual. You will kick up forty percent to me. That is a much better deal than the Black Mask will give you. In return, you will have total protection from both the Black Mask and Batman. The catch? You stay away from kids and schoolyards. No dealing to children, got it? If you do, you’re dead.”
This was Red Hood! Red Hood wanted to control the drug trade in Gotham because he knew that Gotham is far too corrupt and filled with drug lords for him to just want to eradicate drugs from Gotham. If he had tried that he would have been a dumbass, but he wasn’t. He didn’t want to start a gang war and get innocent people killed because of it, he wanted to set the rules of his new Empire and he had to start with the street-level drug dealers, from there he grew until he became a major pain in Black Mask’s ass.
We went from Jason wanting to control the drug trade and take over Gotham’s underworld so people like Black mask couldn’t have people work for him (or being dependent on him) when they were still in high school or were in a vulnerable position, to Jason fighting a war for a mystic land because he was their “Chosen One”. DC really wanted to do something grand (yet boring) with Jason instead of sticking to a street-level vigilante that could have become a Drug Lord to control the drug trade of a city that is so filled with crime and corruption that it can’t be saved by anyone.
Batman doesn’t eradicate crime, he “controls” it, puts a blank it over it, lets it nap up until it wakes up once more to make more mess.
Red Hood had other plans, certain criminals didn’t get to nap, or, better said, they would get to nap forever.
So, no. I wouldn’t call that “dangerously insane”, I will call that “vigilante that believes himself judge, jury and executioner” of a city that is drowning in crime and corruption.
Anyway, I hope you have a really nice week Anon and thank you so much for sending me this ask!
Misthios
Characters (Reader x Mother Miranda...?) 👀
Rating (T)
Word Count (2.8k)
Warnings (none, first half is has no dialogue, writing while high,)
Once her little warrior, always her little warrior.
I'm sorry if it's hot 🗑💀
The fire was finally the way you wanted it and you could finally fucking rest. You'd been hiking all goddamn day through the rain and snow, and you just wanted a minute to rest and to eat. The sun was starting to set and you still needed to set up your tent, but for the moment you were content to just sit on the log and get warm.
“Who'd ever think a Spartan would be in Rome looking for answers, hm?” it was ironic, how you would've been accused of being a traitor or something like that back then. Ha...back then?
Truthfully you weren't sure anymore where your life really started it's been so long, centuries really if you were being honest. Sometimes even your own secrets were too overwhelming for you to admit, and as the years continued to pass you by it was getting harder and harder for you to hold onto the same principles you once believed in. The wars you've participated in, two of them by choice...and as a favor for the third.
It shouldn't have been possible but it was for you, it was both a blessing and a curse because you were nothing special...you grew up with Spartan blood running through your veins, pushed at a young age to hunt and to protect, it was a common tradition for families then, especially for the oldest or only children. Your didn't ever recall your father, he died in battle before you were born but your mother was there, always. Even if her face was blurry after all of the time that has passed you by—you still remember her teachings and her technique. Your mother was the best hunter in Sparta, proudly.
But after...after her passing, the streets taught you how to be a mercenary at a young age...and then an assassin, not by choice but by necessity because you weren't a good person then, not really, and you still weren't now...but you still had the will do what was right, and so you did.
And maybe that is why the Gods did not let you die in the battlefield when you'd been caught off guard, for what is no longer relevant as it is now long gone, but the scar left through your heart would forever stain you inside and out by some random Greek bastard. You don't remember much of the dying part as much as you remembered how badly it hurt and how livid you were watching him stand over you with his bloody sword raised to the heavens. But just like your pain, that emotion was ebbed away as you laid there dying.
And die you did. And your body laid there for who knows how long but when you woke up, oh you sprung up ready to fight but there wasn't a fight left to be had...the war was over...but you didn't know that until you woke up the second time. Not realizing that your body was next to be burned in the ditch as the battlefield was being cleared of all the corpses from both sides. A gruesome chore performed by the prisoners taken by Sparta.
You had no idea why the Gods healed you and brought you back from the dead, you didn't deserve a second chance (at the time you didn't realize that it was a power). You were blessed by the Gods and that's all that it was, people looked at you with both awe and envy. Some gave all of their iron and dearest family possessions as a gift to the Gods in hopes that their wishes were granted. They hated you and you did not care. You were unstoppable, everyone wanted your attention and your skills—it made you arrogant and stupid for years. And when you caught a pretty nasty gash across your back from a werewolf that ambushed you and your horse, your leathers had been torn and bloody by the time you speared your way through four of those beasts. But while there was blood, there was no wound...the only evidence were the scars it left behind.
Snap!
You turned your head slightly, a few strands of your hair falling in front of your ever sharp (y/e/c) eyes. You stayed perfectly still, eyes scanning the forest surrounding you but there was nothing after several moments. Just as well...with a loud sigh, you finally got up to put up your tent for the night and probably for the next few nights too. You slipped your hunting knife back into your boot but kept it unhooked just in case.
You lived in a time where guns existed but you were always better with a blade. You may not be an active misthios now (mercenary in today's world) but old habits were hard to kick. You were too old and too wise now, even if you didn't look a day over twenty-eight.
The next morning...
You woke with a start your grip around your obsidian hunting knife so tight your knuckles your skin strained against bone. You didn't have a dream but something woke you up, and it wasn't those damn birds chirping literally above your tint. With the help of the morning sun you could even see the spot where one of them pooped. Great. You laid there for a few more minutes, finally relaxed enough to move. You checked your surroundings again, walking around your camp but that feeling of unease didn't go away but it wasn't as strong.
Today was clearer than it was the day before though you still had to deal with the snow and the cold, not that either really bothered you too much. Leaving your camp behind, marking the trees so that you had a way to find your way back through these unfamiliar woods, you set off to find breakfast. You came to an edge, a cliff's peak and you went to stand on the edge of it—to maybe see the rest of the mountain you were exploring but something caught your immediate attention.
When was the last time you ever saw a castle? Not...not those tourist marks they have all over Europe but a castle. The place was eerie but most castles always felt that way to you...but this was different? It was as if the castle was looking right back at you, mocking you. From your vantage point you could make out the edges of a lake through the thick trees, you couldn't see it very well but you could tell it wasn't small nor was it man-made.
It was a pleasant surprise to discover this as you assumed that your trip would mostly be you exploring this cold ass mountain without a proper guide but you didn't need anyone to know why you were really up here, your reasons concerned no one but yourself. That and you knew you'd end up leading your guide. You were better off alone. Or at least that's what you kept telling yourself that but those words stopped being comforting a very long time ago. Not like fate was giving you much of a fucking choice though.
Your stomach growled, reminding you of your hunt...you glanced down at the village below the castle curiously before turning away from the ledge, the heavy aura of the castle still on your back.
~~
Fat and full, that's exactly how you'd describe yourself at the moment. There were more predators in the area than there were prey it seemed but the rabbit you caught seemed plentiful enough. With winter kicking in, the most worrisome predator in the woods would be hibernating leaving nothing but the wolves and maybe a mountain lion for you to deal with if you're lucky. You hefted your smaller backpack onto your back and left your camp, deciding to check out the village to see if you could learn more about the castle.
You were both excited and curious, you'd spent a majority of your modern life exploring the wonders of the Earth and using the currency you've collected throughout your lifetimes to fund whatever myth caught your eye. In other words, you were bored but the thought of war and fighting no longer made your blood sing or your heart race. You've done so much of that already, and lost so much because of it.
“Get back! Get back! Agh—GET THE FUCK BACK!”
Your legs stopped moving immediately and your gloved hand was already wrapped around the hilt of your hunting knife, ears trained. You heard growling and barking not too far from where you stood, maybe two or three hundred feet to your right just through those bushes and that fallen tree. It sounded as if someone was having a bit of trouble with a pack of wolves. Which struck you as odd, you were still pretty high up on the mountains and you hadn't seen anyone else up here in a week, so it couldn't have been a local...could it?
The growling grew more intense and there were sounds of a scuffle and grunts but the man still sounded alive.
And it wasn't your problem. Your days of coming to the rescue were over. You allowed your hand to fall from your knife. You got maybe seven steps away before the man spotted you, he caught a glimpse of your fur lined hood and started screaming for you to help him just as one of the wolves snapped the branch he was holding in half, forcing his back against a tree. His time was counting down now.
He was yelling so loud, you were sure even the villagers could hear him now. There was no way you could walk away now.
“Fucking hell.” with a heavy sigh, you dropped your backpack and stalked in the direction of the soon to be crime scene. You didn't feel the need to mask your presence, you wanted the wolves to know that you were there and that ultimately saved that man's life. The wolves were honed in on you the moment you stepped through the bush but three shots echoed through the small clearing before any of them could pounce in your direction. The echoes faded away quickly, and you sighed again watching the white snow stain red beneath the furry corpses.
The only other sound heard was the man's heavy breathing as he leaned against a tree. You looked down at your gun before putting it back in it's holster on your lower back, you may prefer blades but it was always better to have something and not need it, than to need it and not have it.
“Thank...thank you,”
You looked at the man with furrowed brows...just by looking at him, you knew that he wasn't a native but the moment he opened his mouth only confirmed it. He was American...you spotted all of his gear nearby, torn to shreds and you scoffed.
“I don't think camping is for you.”
“I don't think so either,” He tried for a smile but it was only a grimace, the blonde man pushed himself from the tree and approached you, carefully stepping around the wolves bodies, “I'm uh a bit lost, I guess.”
“And I'm leaving.”
“Wait!” he rushed around you, stopping you and you could've gone through the man if you wanted to...you were taller than him by an inch or two, and you definitely had more mass than he probably knew what to do with, “Listen, I'm obviously not from here, but I'm trying to find my daughter okay, she's—”
“I'm not from around here,” you held your hand to make him stop while simultaneously telling yourself that you're not about to get involved in someone else's mess and derail your own mission, “I'm sorry about your kid, but I can't help you.”
He frowned at you obviously not happy with your answer but he was quickly reaching into his pocket and any normal person, especially someone who is armed, would've taken a step back but you weren't some ordinary person. You simply raised an eyebrow, because you knew that he wasn't going to attack you even though he was probably fully capable of doing so. You assumed that he was about to dig out a baby picture or something but it was just a sheet of paper with writing on it. You took it before he could shove the damn thing in your face and you looked down at it carefully, keeping your face neutral.
“I can't read whatever language that is.”
You glared up at him from beneath your lashes, “And you think that I can?”
“Can you?” he shot back, and you rolled your eyes...your attention back to the paper before shoving it back in his hands, “Well?”
You nearly scowled at his impatience, “It's a mix of Romanian, Serbian and Tatar. Whoever sent that clearly doesn't want anyone else to know what's on it.”
“So you can read it then?”
“Bits and pieces,” You said with a shrug, “I'm not expert but someone named Beneviento is demanding a shorter route for wine delivery from that giant castle.”
He stared at you then down to the paper, which was full from top to bottom, then back to you, “What...that's all? Are you sure?? No, that can't be all...there has to be something about my daughter here! Here, please, just try again slower—”
“That's all I could read.” you shouldered past him, throwing your hood back up and ignoring his calls after you. Your backpack was exactly where you dropped it, you shook off the snow and threw it back on your back not caring about the cool wetness on your back now—you just wanted to get away from this area as quickly as possible. You should've used your knife as those gunshots gave away your position.
“Amateur hour everyone,” you grumbled under your breath...you veered off the path slightly, just in case he tried to follow you (wouldn't be the first time someone tried to force you to help them).
You'd maybe walked for a mile or two down the mountain before you noticed the hairs on the back of your neck standing, you chanced a casual glance over your shoulder but there was no one there, no man nor animal. Licking your dry lips you turned back around but as you were doing so, you caught something in your peripheral. A dark figure, twenty feet away and that's when you noticed how fucking quiet everything was around you...you forced yourself to keep walking even as a feeling of dread began crawling up your back, like two sharp fingers walking along the ridges of your spine.
Pushing the hood from your head, you whirled around with your knife drawn at your side gripping it with the intentions to kill but there was nothing there except two large obsidian feathers fluttering gently down onto the snow at your boots. Feathers?
Cool breath touched the base of your neck when you heard soft chuckling directly behind you. You turned around sharply, easily flipping your knife around but the mass of darkness in front of you disoriented you for a split second and that was all this creature needed. Before you could plunge your knife into it's feathery belly, a pale hand shot out and caught your wrist in a bruising grip as another hand curled itself around your throat, sharp nails oh so slightly pricking your skin.
You were about to kick away when the creature leaned forward, and it's face came from beneath the hood...only it wasn't an it, it was a she, though her entire face was hidden by the gold headgear you could see her lips and...and her eyes.
A pair of eyes you'd never forget in any of your lifetimes. It felt like a millennia ago when those eyes alone had you on your knees covered in fresh warm blood and exhausted from tearing through small armies.
Despite yourself, you were trembling in her ironclad grip, your hand that wasn't still trapped fruitlessly came up to wrap around her wrist as if that was going to help you. You both knew that it wouldn't. She brought you closer until your feet were no longer on the ground and you could feel the tip of your blade pressing against something...no, her...and your nose was nearly touching her helmet.
“ο μικρός μου πολεμιστής...” (my little warrior...) her cool breath washed over your face, her eyes still boring down into yours so intensely you swore you felt the heat, even as her hand tightened around your throat making you choke, but you were fighting against her... “επιτέλους ήρθες σπίτι μου...” her chuckle fell on deaf ears. (you've finally come home to me...)
You were supposed to run into Alcina first 😭, but Miranda works too...(save the best for last obvi) I don't know I am playing Odyssey while waiting for this game to drop and I went The Old Guard route too so then I just ended up writing some shit, and I wanted to try something that's not so maiden-esque lol so I hope it's enjoyable at least...I honestly might make this a WIP...
