Live Report: Bishop Briggs Album Release Show at The Troubadour (Oct 17, 2024)
Live Report: @BishopBriggs Album Release show at @TheTroubadour (10/17/24) The effervescent #altpop artist introduced her new album to the world with a spirited emotional performance @2BEntertainment #BishopBriggs #livemusic #concert #newmusic
The audience at Bishop Briggs‘ show last Thursday at The Troubadour was ready for Halloween. Many came dressed in costumes for the show in celebration of the release that night of Briggs’ latest album Tell My Therapist I’m Fine. Maybe it was because Briggs herself had shared images on socials hinting of a costume for the show, but clearly her fan base is game for themes. The stage set-up,…

the death and resurrection of jonathan price
john price x female, wife!reader
angst with an eventual happy ending
word count: 2,179
cw: language.
chapter 5
songs: mama said knock you out (metal version) - leo moracchioli, ain’t it fun - paramore, so tied up (feat. bishop briggs) - the cold war kids
sweat beaded down price's neck as he stood next to ghost, watching soap sweep through the drill with ease. the sergeant moved steadily as if he'd been doing this his entire life.
soap’s feet moved expertly as he peaked out from behind his makeshift cover.
two shots on the first target. pop! pop!
four shots for the second one. pop! pop! pop! pop!
three shots for the next one. pop! pop! pop! two in the chest, one in the head.
he dropped his rifle at his side, drew his pistol, and put his final five rounds into the remaining target. pop! pop! pop! pop! pop!
when he had finished, price barely looked at him.
“too slow,” he snapped. “run it again.”
an uncomfortable silence settled on the range as the ring of the last target faded. gaz glanced at ghost, his expression saying what they were all thinking.
soap had run the drill flawlessly.
“captain,” ghost murmured, his arms crossed over his chest.
“again,” price growled without looking at his lieutenant.
soap looked like he wanted to protest but knew better.
everyone on the team had known price wasn’t quite right since coming home. it was best not to argue with him right now.
johnny reloaded his weapons without a word before moving to run the drill again.
it had been a long day on the range for the 141, the sun beating down on them mercilessly. dust kicked up in the air, covering everything in a hazy glow.
price couldn’t seem to get you out of his head and his men had been the ones to suffer for it. he pushed them harder than ever, but it didn't seem to be enough to occupy his mind any longer.
when soap finished the drill, price didn’t say a word to him. he just walked over to gaz, who was now reloading magazines on a fold out table. he picked up a rifle and slung it over his back before sliding a pistol into his side holster.
he moved over to the course and began running the drill himself.
two shots on the first target. pop! pop! he couldn't seem to get the stink out of the gulag out of his nose.
four shots for the second one. pop! pop! pop! pop! the anguished screams echoing in his brain kept him from sleeping each night.
three shots for the next one. pop! pop! pop! “john...” your breathy moan replaying in his mind was the only reprieve he had from the memories of that hell.
instead of dropping his rifle, he rounded on the final target and unloaded the remainder of his magazine. pop! pop! pop! pop! pop! pop! pop! pop! click.
“captain!” price stopped pulling the trigger when ghost’s voice finally broke through to him. his heart thumped loudly in his chest and sweat ran down his brow, stinging his eyes.
he didn’t say a word as he turned on his heels, moving purposefully into the squat, brick building behind them.
price stormed into the weapons cage and placed the unused pistol down on the table. he did the same with the rifle, slipping the sling off his back.
he wasn't entirely sure why, but he reached for the pistol and hit the magazine release. he began unloading it and then, disassembling it.
he heard the sharp, squeak of the door hinges before ghost’s shadow was cast over the table in front of him.
“sir.” when price didn’t look up, ghost said, “john.”
this got price’s attention. his hands stilled.
ghost looked him up and down. he knew for certain price hadn’t had a good night's sleep in years.
“been to see the missus?”
price’s eyes snapped up, fury blazing in them. “don’t,” he said, a low warning lacing his tone.
ghost clicked his tongue. “didn’t go well, then?”
your face flashed before his eyes, your eyes disappointed, heartbroken, when he flippantly told you to leave. price clenched his jaw, tightly. “you’re out of line, lieutenant—”
“no,” ghost said. “you are, captain. don’t forget who kept this team together while you were gone.”
ghost turned to leave, letting the metal door of the weapons cage fall shut. he stopped, not bothering to turn around as he said, “get your head on straight, john.”
you stared at your wedding band, as it hung on a chain around your neck. the gem glinted in the light of the setting sun. you leaned your head back onto the headrest of your seat and tried to find the motivation to get out of your car.
the radio played quietly as you listened to the sound of rain bouncing off your windshield. your car was idling in the back of the parking area outside your work. it was a little hardware store, and you were an assistant manager.
you had applied as a cashier after losing your job when john had first gone missing.
the store owner had taken one look at your résumé and offered you an assistant manager position.
you had tried to argue that you didn’t know anything about power tools or whatever else might make a good hardware store manager, but he brushed you off.
“i need someone who can manage people. i have plenty of subject matter experts around this store, already.”
and so he had. your favorite was billy, who worked evenings like you did.
billy was around sixty years old and picked up part time hours after he retired. “i was too damn bored sitting at home all day and i don’t fish,” he’d told you.
he was kind. well, he was to you, at least. truthfully, he was a crotchety old grump, but evidently, he had a daughter around your age and that made him soft on you.
you finally found the strength to head into work, jogging through the parking lot because you had forgotten an umbrella.
with damp hair and rain-streaked cheeks, you clocked in for your shift.
you walked up to the customer service desk, tucking your chain and wedding band under your shirt as you went.
scooping up your little clipboard, you greeted the teenagers that worked there in the evenings and on the weekends.
“mandy, when did you need off again?” you asked, glancing at the half-written schedule you hadn’t finished before you called out the other day.
“next friday,” mandy, the high school senior, told you. “i’m going on a weekend vacation with my parents.”
you smiled at her, doing your best to seem interested as she rambled on about her upcoming trip, but you were having trouble focusing.
your mind was plagued with thoughts of john, just as it always seemed to be, lately. you only wanted to help him, but he didn’t want you to, so, in the end, there wasn’t anything you could do about that. you felt useless. helpless. forced to watch the destruction of the man you loved.
“—monday, too?” mandy asked.
“hmm?” your head snapped up, and you saw the girl looking at you expectantly. “oh, sorry. can you repeat that last part?”
“i was just wondering if you could avoid scheduling me that monday, too?” she said.
you scribbled on your clipboard. “you got it.” you tried to sound casual, even as your hands were shaking a little. “did you ask andre if he would cover—”
“excuse me?” a voice interrupted.
you looked up to see a man standing in front of the counter. he was tall, dark haired, and had a haircut that suggested he still thought it was 2008. was that a soul patch?
“can i ring up here?” he asked.
you blinked, glanced pointedly at the sign that said customer service center, and sighed.
“yes, i can ring you up,” you said, trying not to sound irritated.
mandy returned her attention to whatever it was she had been doing when you arrived, and you took the items that soul patch had slid across the counter. a box of screws. duct tape. a putty knife.
you began scanning them.
“so what time do you get off?” he asked, one eyebrow quirking up.
“i just clocked in,” you said blandly, giving him a non-answer. you glanced at the register. “that will be—”
“you know, i don't think i have seen you here before. are you new?”
“no. your total—”
“come on, sweetheart. you look wound up. i bet you could use some fun.”
“i’m working,” you grit your teeth, your tone moving from bored to annoyed.
the man had to audacity to look irritated with you. “but after—”
“i believe the lady turned you down, already,” a gravely voice interrupted.
you looked past the man, to see john standing behind him. you swallowed thickly, your eyes glued to him.
he looked better than when you had seen him last. his beard was trimmed and neat, his hair cut down evenly. he had a little color in his face again, although the shadows under his eyes were still there.
rain dripped from his hair, down the side of his neck. evidently, he hadn’t bothered with an umbrella, either.
“look, man, we’re just having a conversation.”
“no,” john growled. “you’re harassing the cashier. now take your shit and get out.”
the customer turned towards john, shoving his shoulder slightly. “how about you mind your business, buddy?”
before you could even blink, john had the guy face down on the countertop with his arm twisted behind him painfully. “how about i teach you some fucking manners?” he snarled.
“john!” you shouted. “that’s enough!”
john's upper lip twitched as he pushed the man's face further against the counter. his eyes flickered to yours for a moment. they returned back to the man in his grip, before snapping right back up to meet your gaze. for just a second, you thought you saw them soften, but just as quickly as it came, it was gone.
his knuckles tightened around the man’s wrist, and the collar of his shirt, before he yanked him off the counter and gave him a shove.
the guy stumbled back and rolled his shoulder, looking shaken and furious. he looked at you and waved an arm towards john. “aren’t you gonna call the cops?”
you stared at him a moment before looking between him and john. “no.”
“what?”
“get out,” you told him. “or i will call the cops. on you.”
shock, then rage crossed his face.
“you bitch!” he swore loudly, and spun on his heels, heading out the door.
you inhaled deeply, looking around. luckily, it was late in the evening and not many other people were in the store.
you glanced back at the poor teenager still standing behind you.
“mandy, go take a break,” you instructed.
mandy did not need to be told twice.
when she had scuttled away, you turned to john who still had his gaze locked on you. “what the hell was that?” you seethed.
john stared at you for another beat. “you're welcome,” he said gruffly. he reached into his jacket pocket and produce a few items, dropping them onto the counter.
you stared at him incredulously and tried to find a coherent thought. “you want... i'm… excuse me?” john rolled his eyes and shrugged. his nonchalance only made you angrier. “you come into my work and make a scene and you want a thank you?”
“seems to me like that bloke was harassing you—”
“i had it covered,” you growled, glaring up at him sharply.
he raised his brows. “oh, yeah, seemed like you did, love,” he huffs sarcastically.
you ground your teeth and then opened your mouth to retort.
before you could, someone called your name.
you looked up to see billy standing there, looking at you carefully. mandy must've sent him.
“everything alright out here, folks?” he tried to sound authoritative.
to your surprise, john appraised the man and then turned to you, letting you decide how to answer.
“we're fine, billy,” you told the old man.
“you sure?” he didn't seem convinced.
you flashed him a reassuring smile. “yeah, i'm sure. some rowdy guy wanted to make a scene, but it wasn’t anything that i couldn’t handle,” you assured him, completely omitting john’s involvement.
billy’s shoulders relaxed a little. “atta girl,” he said. “if you need me, just holler,” he added, sizing up john with a quick glance before disappearing somewhere in the store.
you looked back at john, feeling your irritation return. you glanced down at the items he placed on the counter. a water supply line and a rubber flapper.
“don’t you have a landlord to fix this shit?”
john shrugged one shoulder. “landlord doesn’t do it right.”
that sort of stubbornness he had was something you would’ve found attractive a few years ago, but right now, it made you want to punch him in the nose.
you rung up his items, placed them into a plastic bag, and accepted the crumpled bills he handed you.
john gave you one last lingering stare. he slid the bag off the counter and walked out the door without saying a word.

Have a meeting with [details redacted for confidentiality on a public microblogging platform] on the anniversary of [details redacted for personal reasons, though many of you were there at the time] and it is making me feel, how do you say, "insane." We are listening to the snow melt outside and refilling our weekly pills and watching an interesting choreography workshop to "River" by Bishop Briggs, which a girl we used to know also performed a pole dance routine to. It's a really interesting song for choreography because it is sinuous and fluid then punctuated by these percussive muffled-kick-drum beats at irregular intervals that require you to move from slinky water-motion to pop-and-lock muscular control if you're trying to do "expressive" dance and also stay "inside the rhythm." Much more complex than it seems or even than it looks; it looks like the kind of dance you'd do intuitively in your kitchen. Which it is, but it's really difficult to execute. Thinking about movement instead of The Law and The Past.

Hi Heart! Hope youre doing well, and sorry that I'm taking so long for your ask lol I do want to answer it but there's a lot I have to answer before that xP
For the Character ask game, how about 1, 2 and 5 for Vanitas from Kingdom Hearts, and 6, 10 and 12 for Black and/or White from the Pokémon Manga? :3
Good morning!!! 🌞
After a while I'm actually doing quite well, since I finally turned in one big-ass assignment. Here's to hoping it will only get better from here.
Anyway, there's an ask to answer! Let's go! Buckle up, this will be long!
Vanitas:
1. Why do you like or dislike this character?
Vanitas as a character is very layered and complex and it's just great! His backstory is very tragic and perfectly explains why he is the way he is in the games, without excusing any of it. The way he views and interacts with the other characters, especially Ventus, is also very interesting and it always makes me wish we had gotten more of it. Not to mention the potential his story has going forward (Yes I still wait on the full backstory reveal and that redemption arc!).
2. Favorite canon thing about this character?
Canon... Canon is a weird thing here since there's like 3 different source materials (games, novels and manga), but I suppose the games are the most canon here, so I'll talk about that. One thing I really love about him is the conflicting relationship he has with hus own identity. Now, he definitely isn't the only character in that series with identity issues (heck, that's basically identity issues: the game series), but I find the way his issues are portrayed to be very interesting. Most characters express those issues pretty outright (i.e. Roxas and Xion) but Vanitas is more subtle in his expression. He goes from trying to assert his individuality by calling himself his own being to referring to himself as Ventus' better half, to calling them and Sora brothers and laughing at Ven's face when he says they're the same and then referring to himself as being darkness. Some people have called this a weakness, but I call it being brilliant. Unlike the other characters in the series, Vanitas isn't at a point where he can express his issues and his anguish as freely, if at all. Heck, who would he even express them to? The main characters he's trying to kill? Or the big bad that's been abusing him his whole life and was planting seeds of doubt to him since day one? The closest thing we get to him being open is before fighting Aqua and Ven and before his death in kh3. I really wish he gets brought back in the future games and we get to see more of his character.
5. What's the first song that comes to mind when you think about them?
I don't know. I got a whole playlist with songs about him and every time I think of him a different one pops into my head. The ones that are more frequent tho are Welcome to My Darkside by Bishop Briggs and Skeleton by Set It Off.
Okay, now that we're done with the darkness edgelord boi, let's go to some adorable kiddos!
6. What's something you have in common with this character?
Black: Probably the passion for our dreams. Black dreams of becoming champion, I dream of becoming a writer, and like him sometimes this is the only thing I can think about (one time I was supposed to be studying for a test and I spaced out thinking about a story for literally 2 hours)
White: The love for theater and performing. I know she's not a performer herself, but it is clear she loves it and puts in a lot of work and effort to the performances of her pokemon.
10. Could you be best friends with this character?
Yeah. I think I'd get along well with both of them.
12. What's a headcanon you have for this character?
Black: He is the most morning person in the world. He always wakes up early and always seems to wake up with a lot of energy, even I'd he slept for like 4 hours or less.
White: Her favorite ride used to be the ferris wheel. But after what happened with N and Gigi it took her a while before she could get on one.

Hi! Not really an ask so feel free to ignore but do you have songs you associate with certain characters?
oooo this is such a fun ask, I'm just going to write their name and put down the first song that pops into my head !
Karlach : Wrecking Ball - Mother Mother
Minthara : Girl with One Eye - Florence + the Machine
Lae'zel : River - Bishop Briggs
Shadowheart: Venus Fly Trap - MARINA
Jaheira: She's Always a Woman - Billy Joel
Gale: Underground - Cody Fry
Astarion: Like Me - Chase Icon
Wyll: Electric Love - Børns
Halsin: Would That I - Hozier
Rolan: Another Believer - Rufus Wainwright
Raphael: Clint Eastwood - Gorrilaz
Icl I put Astarion's song as 'Like Me' because of the one lyric 'I see your ugly ass baby and I block it' hehehehe - Seluney

8 9 and 16 for nerio and/or nasosi?
Thank you so much! 🥰🥰
Send me some oc asks!
8: what they like to eat
Nerio's doesn't have any strong preferences for food. They grew up eating extremely simple meals on the farm. And while aboard Lords of Fortune ships, meals were even simpler most of the time, broken up by infrequent extravagant feasts during big celebrations and holidays.
Lucanis' love of cooking, as well as Bellara, and Harding's... interesting attempts, have expanded Nerio's culinary world substantially. Much like with other aspects of life, Nerio loves to try everything at least once. (and they've also learned a few things they DON'T like, such as Neve's toxic coffee)
Nasosi spent most of her life eating the standard fare of soldiers in the field. From local game roasted on a fire to ration packs to the occasional package of corpse starch. She doesn't exactly turn down the expensive and vast menus available to a rogue trader, but she eats most of her meals at her desk. Chewing on simple dried grox meat or grain mush.
9: their theme
I'm going to assume this is a musical theme, because I LOVE music prompts.
Nasosi's main musical inspiration is Bishop Briggs' "Triumph". The melody, the lyrics, and the vibe fit her SO WELL. Even the costumes in the video. It's scary good.
youtube
The first piece of music to speak to me about Nerio was "The Middle" by Jimmy Eat World. I just can't help but associate upbeat early 2000s teen pop with my Rook. The lyrics about finding yourself and ignoring the opinions of others fit with their journey.
youtube
16: their dreams
If anything, Nerio dreams of a life without so much adventure and peril. Just finding a place to live with Neve and Lucanis, all three of them doing whatever they want with their lives. No responsibilities or obligations to keep them tied down. (and this will always remain a dream, considering how committed Nerio's partners are to some rather large responsibilities outside of chasing risen gods)
Nasosi has very private, very hypocritical dreams she would never speak aloud, not even to the person she dreams about. But ever since she got that fleeting glimpse of Yrliet's most well-kept desire hidden away in her meditative world, it's dominated Nasosi's dreams since. She wants nothing more than to be held by the Aeldari somewhere serene and peaceful. Falling asleep surrounded by Yrliet's long limbs and soft robes, the xenos curled around her like a cat protecting her from all dangers.
Such a thought would be the most extreme heresy to anyone in the Imperium. A commissar like her should know better. And yet, the dream remains.

I need more music to listen, so unleash your reccomendations
Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh dear I never get to talk about music enough so pardon me if I explode all over you
(Links are to songs that are both faves and good places for a newcomer to start.)
Taylor Swift - Yeah yeah she's a household name but no kidding, she has 10 albums spanning several genres and I can guarantee you that she has at least some songs that you will permanently add to your rotation. Google around for a good place to start and dive in (...or just ask me because I will gladly help you out).
Taemin - He's been known as 'the Michael Jackson of kpop' for years now, but what's wild is that he started at Michael and has since grown into a dancer and performer all his own. The only kpop artist I fully stan. His singles never. ever. miss.
Delta Rae - Incredible folk/country/Americana band from the state I live in with male and female vocalists. They are criminally underrated because they were liberal country artists before that was even remotely possible. Seen them live twice, met them twice, they are the most genuine people and outstanding artists.
Amanda Palmer - Originated as The Dresden Dolls, a duo that invented the 'punk cabaret' indie subgenre, and has been a solo artist for like 15 years at this point? Intense piano, intense lyrics, intense everything (the linked song is the anthem for girls with daddy issues). Objectively the most personal lyrics I've ever heard. Voice may take a second to adjust to. Not made for mainstream and doesn't want to be. One of the most important artists to me, personally.
Marianas Trench - Pop/punk perfection (but also simply genre chameleons) with a musical mastermind at its core. One of the best vocalists. Most albums end with an opus arrangement of the songs that came before and it's life changing.
Pink - People don't realize how powerful her vocals are and how incredible her lyricism can be. A pop icon. This bitch raised me, forever grateful.
Halsey - If all you know is Without Me and Closer, you haven't heard Halsey. Every album is outstanding but hopeless fountain kingdom doesn't have a single misplaced sound. It's pretty freakish actually.
Chvrches - Sheer and utter synthpop perfection, every single song. The one I linked is one of my favorite songs of all time, period.
MUNA - Queer girls making queer indie pop. Great lyrics, immaculate vibes. Recently opened for Taylor Swift on the Eras Tour, and well deserved.
The Midnight - 80s/90s synth like you can't even believe. Saxophone for days.
Imogen Heap - A genius and pop legend. Her greatest song was sampled in something god awful and got meme-d to death, I don't wanna talk about it. If a pop artist does breathy vocals, 95% chance they're doing it because of Imogen. She sang me happy birthday. Haven't been alive since.
Rina Sawayama - THIS BITCH. Falls under pop but never met a genre she couldn't master. Stayed in the game into her late twenties (which is geriatric by pop standards), when she finally blew up a bit. A variety of sounds, some of them strange, but all of them brilliant in one way or another (even if you don't personally vibe with it).
Troye Sivan - Twink icon whose first two albums were as gay as they were pop brilliance. I don't care much for his newest work, but you might.
Alice Merton - She's the girl with that Roots song from a few years back. Two albums now, both genius. Unique voice, varied sound but with a distinct Florence oomph to it.
Ava Max - UN. DER. RATE. D. Classic, anthemic pop. Vocals for DAYS. Music so infectious you have it on loop for days. So much more than Sweet but Psycho.
Kesha - I prefer recent Kesha to her classic dance pop madness, personally. She grew into an amazing artist who can blend her weird ass dance flavor with her more mature sounds in a way that doesn't really seem possible.
Bishop Briggs - Nobody has a voice like this. A sort pop/alternative vibe that can be anthemic as easily as it can be dark.
The Chicks - Icons for a reason. Their most recent album, written by the main lyricist after leaving her husband of 20 years for cheating on her left right and sideways, is one of the best break up albums of all time. Period.
The Civil Wars - They only lasted long enough to make two albums, but both are flawless. Nobody will ever harmonize quite like them. Folk/country in the most *beautiful* way possible.
Evanescence - 2000s rock with with a stunning female writer and vocalist whose melodies are simply beyond compare when we're talking about their stuff from 2003-2006. Goth, dramatic, hard hitting, cathartic.
Freya Ridings - Adele but make it a touch more contemporary. Gorgeous deep voice, lots of ballads but her up tempo stuff is just as good.
Billie Eilish - If you haven't heard her first album yet or her early EPs, you need to. Nobody that young should have that much of a grasp of music and her place in it.
Foxes - Underrated pop queen! I have yet to hear a bad song from her, but her latest album is quintessential synthpop mastery.
Jukebox the Ghost - Piano pop/rock. It's actually too much fun to listen to them, tbh.
Kelly Clarkson - Listen, her latest album follows directly after The Chicks' on the string of ultimate divorce albums we've gotten from pop icons lately. I've loved Kelly forever, but in bits and pieces. Her latest album is her strongest project to date, easily.
Labrinth - I do not comprehend what this genius does with music. Electronic, experimental, metaphorical, personal, just something else. Did the music for Euphoria, but his first solo album was an experience and a half.
Lorde - Everybody tells you to listen to Melodrama because you should.
Maisie Peters - Everybody calls everybody else 'the next Taylor Swift,' and they're wrong. It's this girl.
Marina and the Diamonds - SUCH a unique voice, lyrics that are way too smart for mainstream pop.
Patrick Wolfe - A deep-voiced violinist who released a pop album in 2011 that I still listen to because I'm a sucker for pop laced with classical instruments and it's just that good.
Owen Pallett - A higher-toned violinist with more of an indie approach, coming up with concepts and melodies that would go well with an A24 film.
Emilie Autumn - Violin-fueled industrial/pop/metal, often with Victorian leanings. Visceral lyrics on mental illness, depression, bipolar, suicidal ideation, sexual assault, sometimes with a satirical bent or through a historical lens. Voice might take a second to get used to, it's unique and she does unique things with it (including "ugly" sounds on purpose) but once it clicks it clicks hard. Opheliac and Fight Like A Girl are good starting places.
The Veronicas - Underrated (yet oddly influential?) pop icon twins from the early 2000s to now. Killer voices, KILLER pop.
