August 11th (13th) 2024 | Started reading The Lord of the Rings in English! I read it first in French something like... 15 years ago now ? 😅😂
Decided to keep track of some themes because putting tabs helps me stay focused on the reading somehow, let's see how my copy ends up looking!

One of the reasons why I haven’t picked up the locked tomb before is because the book is ridiculously expensive here and it’s too popular to just get at the library and I’ve heard so much bad about the audiobook/thought it was an amazon exclusive. But I have like 20 audiobook hours on nexstory that I need to get rid of asap to not waste the subscription I accidentally paid for. And to get to my point wtf have people been talking about the audiobook is great. Probably the first time a dramatic narration has actually worked for me. I usually struggle with most (typically romance) narrators because they will be needlessly dramatic. But this is more like watching a movie and the casual way the characters are talking really works in its favor

ugh. Like okay, i understand their decision and why they came to it, but in this economy no one can afford another streaming service. I get wanting complete control over their content, and yes, it is exactly like what dropout did. But to put it frankly, watcher does not produce enough content for me to consider this worth it-and looking at what other people are saying, im not the only one who thinks this.
There's an argument to be made that with their streaming service and new source of income, they'll be able to produce said content, but again I am broke. I am but a single person in the vast majority of their watchers who cannot afford this, and that makes me sad and upset.
Overall, this situation sucks, and no ones gonna be happy about it.

I fucking hate Amazon and their stupid Kindle ebook file formats SO MUCH. Took me most of an hour to figure out how to download the dang book. I wouldn't even be buying books from them in the first place if there was literally any other option, but no one else sells an ebook version of Obabakoak in Spanish and I need it by class on Thursday. I'd bought a paperback at the beginning of the semester but then I realized, today, that I accidentally bought it in English, and that just won't do. Grrrr. I got the book, finally, but grrrrrr.

Happy Queer Media Monday!
Today: Nous Sommes la Poussière by Plume D. Serves
I found a book.
[Nous Sommes la Poussière as seen in the queer bookshop in Paris, with the shop's recommendation still attached]
Nous Sommes la Poussière is a French novel written by LGBT+ and autistic activist Plume D. Serves. It is a magic realism story about people affected by a disabling condition that causes electric dust to gather around them. As a form of “treatment”, they are made to wear special chains with a magnet that absorbs the dust before it can become a visible cloud, which end up doing more harm than good. The main character, Elias, is one of these people. (She is also a lesbian.) The book follows her from the moment that she really started to feel disabled over years of struggle with both her disability and her fight for social acceptance, until the activist group succeeds in repelling the very restrictive law forcing them to wear the chains. While doing so, it touches on many aspects of life with an invisible disability.
I feel like I’ve never seen my exact life experience as a disabled person this well reflected in any story. Plume D. Serves doesn’t shy away from the complexities and the nuances of being disabled and of the disabled community, or the way it intersects with other marginalized identities. I also appreciated how the thing that brings change in this book is relentless, determined community organizing.
Nous Sommes la Poussière is written in French by a French author, and has not yet been translated to any other languages.
I have done a review about it in French, if that is a version you’d prefer. Also, here is Plume D. Serves’ webpage.
Queer Media Monday is an action I started to talk about some important and/or interesting parts of our queer heritage, that people, especially young people who are only just beginning to discover the wealth of stories out there, should be aware of. Please feel free to join in on the fun and make your own posts about things you personally find important!

Ooh thank you! Amazon for some reason it tells me unavailable when trying to order from Europe? Is there anything I need to do?
Unfortunately there are a few countries that Amazon won't print the book's particular size/shape for (don't ask me why, I'm just as baffled), including Germany, off the top of my head. If that's you, I'm really sorry! Like I said, I'm working on some alternatives.
Otherwise it might work to copy-paste the book title into the search bar of your particular country's Amazon page? Sometimes the website can be a bit finickity.

New Sega Hardlight game announced today and it’s a fucking Apple Arcade exclusive I can’t have shit 😭😭
I saw, yes! It is rather unfortunate, but not the first time they pulled something like this: that TSR mobile game is Apple-exclusive too, if I am not mistaken. Maybe when enough people express interest to have it on different platforms as well, it will get ported?

Same anon, I'm glad that you could talk to someone and they are looking for her. Try to breathe and eat in the meantime. Sending you a virtual hug and I will send a lot of positive thoughts to your sister so they can find her soon and well. I'm so sorry this is happening.
Thank you thank you thank you so much for your kind words 🫂 I really should get something to eat... Haven't eaten all day.
Also, I just got an update: I was told that someone found her and that HR is talking to her now... I'm hoping & praying they treat her right and that nothing actually happened. I wasn't given much details. I can't stop worrying about her. 😥
