✨Girlbosstember✨ Official Commentary— Day 2
Good morning, all, and welcome back to this second day of our glorious Girlbosstember! Yesterday’s matches wrapped up as anticipated, with Kimi entering the Quarterfinals of her League by a wide margin and Hestia entering hers by a narrow one. We will see them both return to the polls when we begin the next round.
For today’s matchups, things are sure to get really intense! Every single entrant today garnered more than a 75% rate for nomination during the preliminary round! Up first in the Love League, we have the heated battle between Ace versus Ozeca! Both ladies have purple eyes and know their way around an armory, but that might be where their similarities come to an end. Ace is the itinerant knight younger sister of Pigeon’s Queen, who left her home behind in order to find a way to save her sister’s failing memory and to assist the causes of the light. Her list of badass moments include jumping out of a tower with Nikki in her arms to save her from captivity! Princess, Knight, and perhaps supreme Girlboss? We will see! The other hopeful today is of course Major Ozeca of League Tyr, the main female presence on the Night Ordered. As Nidhogg’s right hand woman, she has faced down the Iron Rose Stylist Legion, has worked alongside the likes of Dr. Gray Raven and his assistant Peachy, and perhaps most heroically, endured the presence of Reid Mercury. Could anyone but a true Girlboss get through all of that with her job intact? You decide! Given that the two contestants were separated by literally one vote in the prelims, this Love League battle is sure to get heated! Ace currently holds a 20% lead, but that could easily change when the full League Tyr Voting Bloc arrives at the polls. Keep an eye on this one for sure!
The Shining League Match for today might be just as divisive! Up today for their first appearances in the polls are Queen Lilith and Yunikina! Queen Lilith is famous for selling her soul to her demon butler to become beloved by all in exchange for never being satisfied. In Shining Nikki she currently reigns as the nearly universally loved Queen of Ninir kingdom—and those voters who are familiar with Love Nikki should also be aware that she is in fact, the woman that they will rename the entire country after. Is that the mark of an ultimate girlboss? Facing her is another figure who becomes a legend in Miraland—Yunikina, the army general who led the Snow Eagle Revolutionary Force. While perhaps not having a country named after her, she founded a legacy legion that carries the torch of her spirit for centuries to come as well as inspiring a Lifetime Crafting suit in both games. It might not be named after her, but North would not be as it is today without Yunikina’s influence. But which of these titans should also be adding ‘true girlboss’ to their list of accomplishments? Only you, the Girlbosstember voters, can decide! Lilith holds a lead following early morning voting, but that could flip at any time!
Stay tuned, and keep voting!

Drunk. Cheat. Gambler. Opium addict.
Golden Spider. Nightshade. Poisons master.
The insults and nicknames that follow the Chrysthemum around are innumerous and infamous. She is a woman of luxury and indulgence, but also high intellect and cunning.
The Chrysthemum never wears a weapon, but beware even the most innocuous touch—rumor has it that she paints her nails with black widow venom.
FIN.
This is a character introduction, inspired by a challenge on the Facebook fan group. Her story is taking me a little longer than I expected to develop, but I promise I haven’t forgotten this original member of the Iron Rose. Thanks to OP for the Iron Rose theme!

if the only members of the Iron Rose Stylist Legion that they are ever planning on showing us are Ransa, Sherry, Debbie, and Mela, then why did they mention that there were 10 members? why not just have those four be the only members of Iron Rose??

For the week of 7 May 2018
Quick Bits:
Accell #10 begins the next arc, largely focusing this issue on Danny trying to get back on his feet, and assess damage and reparations of his personal life. Joe Casey and Damion Scott are still giving us the most traditional superhero book of the line here.
| Published by Lion Forge / Catalyst Prime
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Analog #2 is an interesting throwback. I like how Gerry Duggan, in creating this future, has effectively tossed us back to the stylistic action and intrigue of 70s and 80s thrillers.
| Published by Image
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Backways #5 is the explosive conclusion to the first arc. The story reveals some of the extremes that Anna can go to with her powers as she attempts to save Sylvia. Eleonora Carlini and Silvia Tidei really shine with the art.
| Published by AfterShock
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Despicable Deadpool #300 is a bit of a mess, but I get that was intentional. All of the “Marvel Universe Kills Deadpool” arc has been one failure after another as the assorted heroes and villains of Marvel have been unable to stop Deadpool. The ultimate solution leads to an opportunity for Gerry Duggan to travel through many of the highlights of his run on the series.
| Published by Marvel
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Domino #2 continues the fun, action, and weird moments of self-reflection showing the true vulnerabilities and insecurities of tough-as-nails mercenaries of the first issue. Gail Simone is doing a great job at bringing out the depth of Domino’s character and the art from David Baldeón and Jesus Aburtov is gorgeous. I had pretty high hopes for this series, given how entertaining Simone’s previous work on Agent X and Deadpool were, and she’s exceeded expectations.

Exiles #3 is still following the whirlwind pace set by the first two issues as the team continues racing through the multiverse, gathering new and old allies, as they try to come up with a plan to stop the Time Eater. This, of course, allows Javier RodrĂguez to really step up with his designs and layouts for the weird and crazy worlds the team is travelling to.
| Published by Marvel
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Highest House #4 is consistently some of the best art and storytelling in comics right now, with beautiful artwork from Peter Gross and Fabien Alquier, as the intrigue in Mike Carey’s script hits a fever pitch.
| Published by IDW
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hungry Ghosts #4 ends the series on a high note, with stories illustrated by Irene Koh and Francesco Francavilla. Like the previous issues, the stories from Anthony Bourdain and Joel Rose are likely to be familiar to you, especially the Snow Woman as variants of it have been told and retold multiple times, but they’re well told here. And with wonderful artwork, all deftly elevated by José Villarrubia’s colours.

Hunt for Wolverine: Adamantium Agenda #1 is the second of these mini-series, this one following a handful of Logan’s New Avengers compatriots. That remit at least makes more sense than the Weapon Lost premise, and leads to a flashback of Wolverine selflessly taking one for the team and thus having Iron Man, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, and Spider-Man start chasing down a lead for a DNA sequence sale in the present. Tom Taylor’s story gets more interesting from there and I look forward to seeing where this goes. Also, some really nice artwork from RB Silva, Andriano di Benedetto, and Jesus Aburtov. If given the chance, I wouldn’t mind seeing this creative team do more New Avengers, or even Defenders, material once this is over.

Isola #2 is probably the most beautiful thing you’re going to find on the shelves this week, which is saying something since there’s also an issue of Monstress. Karl Kerschl and Msassyk are just raising the bar higher and higher on how gorgeous the comics page can look in the span of two simple issues. Apart from being a visual treat, the story is also captivating. Kerschl and Brenden Fletcher have a fable here that taps into the same kind of magical realism, whimsy, and ephemeral beauty of a Hayao Miyazaki film and it’s incredibly engrossing.

Medieval Spawn & Witchblade #1 is some decent dark fantasy. Brian Holguin, Brian Haberlin, and Geirrod Van Dyke set up a pretty bleak, undead tainted past to throw what appears to be a new Medieval Spawn into, as much of this issue works to flesh out the mystery of his past and the blight that currently besets the land. No sign of a Witchblade yet. Some nice dark and moody art from Haberlin and Van Dyke.

New Mutants: Dead Souls #3 is a turning point for the story, giving us essentially a reason for why all of this weird stuff is going on and more particularly why at least some of these former members of different incarnations of the New Mutants are present. All while the team starts turning on itself as Matthew Rosenberg begins to deal with some of the continuity and history of the team members. It’s good. If you’re a long time reader of these characters, you should love this. If you’re not and you’re a newcomer with this series, it’s still fun, with some great Adam Gorham art.

Oblivion Song #3 raises some interesting questions about the people who were transported over into Oblivion. How living through that nightmare for ten years could have changed them, possibly made them go feral, and how troublesome it might be to have them readjust to life in a safe and sane world. Obviously the answer would seem to be to bring them back anyway, but it’s still an interesting question.

Old Man Logan #39 actually has a pretty clever play on one of the X-Men’s most prestigious stories in the title as “Glob Loves, Man Kills”. That should give you an idea as to the content of this issue, but I won’t spoil the surprise if you’re unsure. That said, we get more development on Old Man Logan’s problems with his healing factor, and Glob has a date. Nice artwork from Ibraim Roberson and Carlos Lopez, and it’s welcome again, like his run on Cable, that Ed Brisson is playing with the wider world of X-characters.

Peter Parker: The Spectacular Spider-Man #304 reminds you not to mess with the past, even if it’s ostensibly for a good reason. It never works out. Except in the art department. Adam Kubert gets to show off some nice redesigns for the heroes here and a really nice new version of a somewhat surprising villain.

Port of Earth #5 returns us to Mac and Rice’s plight, with Rice not only dealing with the loss of his girlfriend, but finally figuring out what the alien was up to with his stolen badge. This is still a relatively slow moving series, with the issues fairly systematically broken down into an opening section that focuses on a documentary style analysis of the Port, the contract with the aliens, and the ESA and then the action following Mac and Rice, but it’s entertaining.
| Published by Image / Top Cow
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Punks Not Dead #4 is still somehow raising the bar on how inexplicably strange this series can get, even as it’s making more and more sense.
| Published by IDW / Black Crown
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Resident Alien: An Alien in New York #2 unfurls the mystery further as Harry and Dan try to figure out who wrote an NYC phone number in alien script. Steve Parkhouse’s art, as usual, really draws you in.
| Published by Dark Horse
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Rough Riders: Ride or Die #4 is a fitting conclusion to the adventures of Teddy Roosevelt and his band of luminaries, even if we may see a different incarnation somewhere down the line. Adam Glass and Patrick Olliffe created a worthwhile real life analogue to literary supergroups like League of Extraordinary Gentlemen and the three series are worth picking up.
| Published by AfterShock
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Spider King #4 brings an end to this excellent mix of Viking action and weird science. It’s been a great story with amazing art, highly recommended.
| Published by IDW
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Venom #1 is pretty damn good. The story from Donny Cates is compelling, building up a mystery for strange behaviour from the symbiote and expanding upon the Venom history, but stealing the spotlight is the art. Ryan Stegman was a good artist, with this issue he’s laying claim to being a great artist. With JP Mayer providing inks over Stegman’s pencils and Frank Martin delivering on the colour work, this is a damn fine looking comic. A great debut.

World of Tanks: Citadel #1 is somewhere between Garth Ennis’ two usual war story extremes; the deeply serious realistic tales of historical war battles and incidents of series like War Stories and the over-the-top dark humour of Adventures in the Rifle Brigade. As such, it’s all right. Most of it is set up, allowing the tank drivers and gunners to get acquainted with their vehicles and crew. The art from PJ Holden and Michael Atiyeh is fairly nice.

V1:1-9 Legendary Iron Rose
Bobo: Stop right there! Give us Lunar's drawing, right now!
Mela: I was wondering who was inquiring about my whereabouts. No way some losers like you guys are going to get the drawing from me. Don't make me laugh!
Nikki: What if I win?
Mela: Hey little miss, don't be so naive. Do you know who you're messing with? Where did you get your courage from?
Lunar: Nikki is a gifted stylist. She's waaaay better at designing than a thief like you!
Mela: Hmmm! You should be honored that I chose your drawing as a target. How dare you call me a thief, I will make you guys pay for that!
Mela: Lets compete over sassy style if you dare!
*Stylist Battle*
Mela: I did not bring my collection with me to the Lilith Kingdom. You can have your drawing back.
Mela: But remember. Making an enemy of the Iron Rose organization was a bad idea. You'll pay the price for your actions sooner than later!
Nikki: I can feel Mela is quite strong. I can't imagine what this iron rose organization is like.
Bobo: Rumor has it that after Princess Elle became the leader of the Pidgeon Kingdom, she established the Iron Rose Stylist Legion.
Bobo: It has 10 designers of the highest level who were ordered by the Queen to go around and acquire top notch clothing designs by whatever means necessary...
Momo: Meow! That's just daylight robbery!
Momo: Ok ok, let's first decide where to go next.
Nikki: Since it was Queen Nanari who brought us here, let's go visit her Lilith Kingdom first!

Please read the story summary for the dollmaker game I play on my phone.
The prologue:
When King Sayet died, he left three treasures behind. Miraland was thrown into turmoil, as styling elites from every nation battled for possession of the treasures. The ensuing contests were of unprecedented intensity, and became known as the “Nine-Day War”.
To everyone’s surprise, the winners were two newcomers to the styling scene: Princess Elle from the Pigeon Kingdom, and a pink-haired commoner known only as “Hostess L.” In a hard-fought match, Princess Elle claimed the first two treasures, but Hostess L won the last, and quietly disappeared amidst the chaos.
Eight years later, Queen Elle ascended to the Pigeon throne. Her first acts were to form the Iron Rose Stylist Legion, ordering them to seize clothes and valuable materials from the other nations.
The era of the Iron and Blood Queen had begun.

✨Girlbosstember✨ Official Commentary—Day 5
Hello and welcome back to another exciting day of Girlbosstember! Yesterday’s matches finished as anticipated with Yvette earning a place in the Love League’s Quarterfinals and Zoey claiming the victory in the her Shining League playoff match. They will be facing off against the Mayor of Moonlit City and Yexiao respectively when we move into the next round.
But we’re only halfway through the playoffs with much more excitement to come! Up for the Love League today we have a showdown of two politically powerful ladies. It’s Queen Elle against Ming Shuiyuan! The born ruler of Pigeon Kingdom, Elle first made waves as the tender age of sixteen when she earned not one but two of the treasures during the Nine Days war following the death of Sayet. Following her ascension to the throne, she organized her own elite band of stylists known as the Iron Rose and under her guidance they became one of the most fearsome groups around the continent. Despite having magically induced memory issues thanks to her participation in the nine days war, Elle still functions as an effective ruler, ensuring Pigeon’s continued strength in the southern portion of the continent and looking fabulous while she’s at it! Is she the girlboss the Love League is looking for? We’ll find out! Facing off against her is none other than Ming Shuiyuan. Shuiyuan is the leader of the Ming Clan, one of the four powerful noble Clans in the Cloud Empire. Despite a taciturn exterior, she has an honest heart and cares deeply for her friends. She leads her Clan with wisdom and strength, while also building mecha creatures to assist her clan in times of war. Elegant, clever, and composed, Ming Shuiyuan just might have the qualities to become an Ultimate Girlboss. We will find out! Early morning voting has kept these two candidates neck and neck, so this one is any girlbosses’ game!
Meanwhile in the Shining League, it’s the Goddess of Desire versus Joy! Desire is a force of nature who lives beyond Miraland in the Abyss. She is served by a legion of demons including the demon Nightbane, who worships her as the perfect evil. Her delicate and enticing appearance belies a sinister, scheming diety whose goal is to enter Miraland and remake it in her own apocalyptic vision. And she would have succeeded too if it weren’t for meddling protagonists trying to save the world! Well, if she can’t have Miraland, she might just have to take the Ultimate Girlboss crown. Up against her is Joy! Originally introducing herself as a simple and kindhearted girl from Ninir, she quickly befriends Nikki and shows her around Starheaven. Their time together is cut short when she is seemingly critically stabbed by Qin Yi. When she resurfaces later in Nikki’s journey, it is revealed that she has been deceiving them all. She is in fact the daughter of a scientist who went through intensely painful experiments to enhance her own styling power. Her evil glow up and skill increase is nearly enough to defeat Nikki, in the end! Which of these ambitious ladies who’ve been defeated by Nikki should move on in the girlboss competition? Voters, you decide! Desire has established an early lead, but Joy just might come back from critical condition—it wouldn’t be the first time after all!
Stay tuned and keep voting!

✨Girlbosstember✨ Official Commentary— Day 3
Good morning one, good morning all, and welcome to another exciting day at the Girlboss polls!
Yesterday’s matches finished as anticipated, with Ozeca advancing to face Kimi in the Love League Quarter finals and Lilith claiming the spot to face off against Hestia in the Shining League’s next round. More to come from all of these contestants later on!
Now, let’s turn our attention to todays matchups! For the Love League we have the one, the only, The Mayor Of Moonlit City! Famous for her political acumen and willingness to protect her city at all costs, including trickery, this girlboss hopeful actually had her gender awakening when standing in for her ill older sister in a dance ceremony. Girlboss potential? You decide! Facing her is Ransa of the Iron Rose Stylist Legion. This potential girlboss will stop at nothing to execute her goals of serving the goals of her Queen and the Iron Rose. She grew up as the daughter of a well to do family of nobles, but found the societal expectations stifling and chose to leave her birthright behind and join the Iron Rose in order to experience freedom and adventure. But is she girlboss coded? We’ll find out! The Mayor of Moonlit City holds a lead following the early morning vote, but it’s not over yet!
Meanwhile in the Shining League, we have a showdown between two women who are truly living their lives for all their worth. Dodora is not only a nationally famous pop star with charm to rival even Lilith’s, but she’s also the long lost envoy of Cuteness and an integral part of Nikki’s journey to save Miraland. This young lady is having it all! Yexiao, meanwhile, might seem more reserved, but her elegant exterior hides a lengthy and mysterious past. In actuality, this denizen of Cloud is a living Designer’s Reflection. The embodied echo of an ancient artist, she has lived a thousand lives throughout the centuries as anything from an important political advisor to a solemn small town recluse. Plus, her spicy food tolerance is off the charts! So which of these ladies deserves to move on to the next round? We will find out! Yexiao holds a solid lead as of this morning, but Dodora is by no means a weak opponent, so things could still turn around!
Stay tuned, and keep voting!

Meanwhile in the Mangaverse...
Elle: Alright guys, this next question might be tricky. If you come across someone who offends you, what is the best way to reclaim your honor: a) challenge them to a style that they’re weak at, giving you an edge in the competition; b) challenge them to a style they’re strong at, so that your victory is more meaningful; or c) challenge them to a random style so neither of you have an advantage and it’s a true test of skill.
Ransa: The first one. I’m winning that duel.
Sherry: No, the second one. It humiliates them more when they lose.
Debbie: Come on guys, the last one is the most fun!
Nidhogg: Please, the quickest way to reclaim your honor is option D—just fucking stab them and be done with it.
Elle: Ok, well. Interesting discussion, and Nidhogg, you’re no longer allowed to bring swords as accessories to dinner. Class dismissed.

When Ace would get bored at the Royal Palace in Pigeon, she would post her own, unauthorized Iron Rose Rankings list, based on an arbitrary category of her choosing that she would initially keep to herself. That way, she could sit back and watch as the Legion Members scrambled to work out what the list was based on, and decide whether they should be offended by where they put them.
Some examples of her lists include “how sexy they are”, “how awkward they look while dancing”, “how funny they are”, “how far from Oren they were born”, “lightweights to heavyweights”, and “best useless skill” (Mela won that with her snapping).
