i havent edited in a while, but 1000xRESIST is such a good game i had to make an amv of it. went for a somewhat cinematic editing style this time, as i try to focus on the themes of resistance and generational cycles of harm

i really tried with her apparel but by god there are so few pink apparel pieces in flight rising. staff please give us more pink/bright colored apparel

peacock tert bc they look like eyes. i know watcher has the eye symbolism with her name and all, but knowers gotta observe things to know them yknow?

i used the azure jaw enhancement instead of charoite since the metal on the azure one is darker and knower's mask is black. tbf her mask has a bit of blue on it sometimes

7. principal:

her primary is specifically ruby tapir bc of its blue accent color – its intentionally hidden on the outfitted dragon, but if you take off the mask/gloves/leg guards, you can see the blue. this is, of course, a reference to her former identity as the youngest (blue-colored)

principal has the same secondary gene as iris, since she has a strand of iris' hair

miasma crystal to represent vice

8. secretary:

crystal primary since theyre kind of crystal/glass-like

I have just finished a bit of a first draft of part of a more developed story, part of the full depiction of Sindel's backstory in this AU, so I wanted to share. Feel free to share any feedback you have with me! 😊

THE RULER TYRANT OF EDENIA, PART I: FIRST SPARK

She couldn’t stop wondering what should she do.

The daily life of the young Princess Sindel was exactly what was expected for a future ruler of the Edenian Regime. It was just task after task. Some days she needed to spend her whole day training her fighting skills. Other days she had to spend studying to get the knowledge she would need. Other days she needed to assist public events as a representative of Edenia and its royalty. She was usually lucky if she had some hours of free time for herself for anything that wasn’t eating or sleeping. That day seemed like one of those lucky days.

She had already done everything she needed. The royal guards who took care of training her in combat had been more than satisfied with her growing skill with the Kwan Dao and told her she could leave the morning early. She had felt proud of herself for that, and was ready to use the free time it gave her for herself. But what could she do?

Her parents weren’t in the palace, since they had to spend the whole day reuniting with the most important figures of Edenia to discuss various important subjects. Her friends, all royal guards or nobles who visited the palace occasionally, were all occupied with their different tasks too. Without any of them, all she could think of doing was taking time to visit the streets, and after spending her whole life only getting out of the palace if she had company, she was very unsure about it. Part of her was even scared, knowing that, as peaceful as her realm was, there were still criminals out there, especially those willing to conspire against the royal family.

The answer to her question would come to her as she had those thoughts, which were interrupted when the door of her room was knocked.

“I hope I have not arrived at the wrong moment.” said a polite voice from outside. “May I enter?”

Princess Sindel wasn’t sure of what to answer, but she knew no one could have entered the palace if they didn’t have the right to do so and had an important reason.

“You may, yes.” she said with a quiet voice.

The visitor opened the door, revealing herself to Sindel. She was an adult woman, probably around the Edenian equivalent of twelve years older than the teenage princess. Dressed with black, blue and red clothes that resembled those of the Edenian nobility, there was something about her that immediately called Sindel’s attention. Her so unusual eyes, with iris as black as night contrasting with the clear as day eyeballs and pupils. There was something in them which made it seem like she could see beyond what others did.

And she could, indeed. She was doing it right now.

“Greetings, my princess.” she said, performing a reverence before Sindel. “My name is Delia, and it pleases me to say that, after reuniting with your parents, they have allowed me to be your new teacher in magic.”

Princess Sindel remained silent for a moment as she widened her eyes, realizing who she was speaking with. “Delia? The Lady of Flame?” there was no one in Edenia who didn’t know about the legendary sorceress, and Princess Sindel was far from an exception.

Delia nodded. “Yes, Princess Sindel.” she proceeded to explain more. “Queen Alina and King Ostin have just reunited with me and my dear Argus and Amara, to discuss matters regarding the protection of our realm. During the reunion, I thought about asking your parents if you had taken any magic lessons. When they told me that you hadn’t yet, I could not help but offer myself. After all, your education is essential for our realm’s future, I wish to contribute to it. I came as soon as I could to notify you.”

“I…” Sindel struggled to say anything due to her surprise. “I am so honored, my lady.” she finally said, returning Delia her prior reverence.

“The honor is all mine.”said Delia humbly. “I was going to start your first lesson tomorrow, but since it seems like you have nothing to do, may we start now?”

Sindel nodded. “Of course.” she smiled. Learning magic from one of the most respected figures in all Edenia, that really was a sudden but exciting answer for what she could do that day.

Delia smirked. “Excellent. I am looking forward to seeing your potential.”

Delia and Sindel moved to a private training room in the palace, dedicated for when a ruler needed training in magic. It was spacious, but almost empty. When learning forms of magic that required no tool or weapon, the best one could ask for was for an isolated room, where nothing would distract them from the words of their teachers.

The first days were always the hardest. Few people could even manage to manifest any form of magic during that time, they just absorbed all knowledge they could to try better another day. Sindel knew it, and yet she still tried her hardest to do better than most. She had received a huge honor from Delia, so she thought an average performance would be disappointing, especially for Sindel herself. 

Delia first told Sindel that there were countless forms of magic, and that it would be for the best if she tried many of them until deciding which ones suited her the most to then specialize on them. For the first day, she decided to introduce the princess to her preferred kind of magic, pyromancy.

Sindel was illustrated in everything she would need to do to use it, especially how she would need to concentrate, take full control of her body, mind and spirit and use it all at once to manifest any form of magical energy, in this case the one used to create fire out of nowhere. Sometimes during the explanations Delia proceeded to ask her questions about what she had just said, or even about her own thoughts and what she could deduce of it. To her teacher’s satisfaction, she always answered flawlessly. As expected from a member of the royalty, she had been taught well even before properly starting her training.

After all the basics were explained, Delia just gave Sindel a simple task, one usually asked to future pyromancers during their first days. Simply create a flame, no matter how small, in their hands.

The princess remained standing and still for quite some time in the middle of the training room, her eyes fixated in her hands, which she positioned together one next to the other. She remained fully concentrated, trying her best to apply the knowledge Delia had given her intro performing the task. And yet, no flame appeared in all that time. That made her deep down feel frustrated, which only subtly broke her concentration and turned her succeeding in the task less likely.

Delia observed Princess Sindel during all that time, noticing the effort she was putting in it, her dedication. It was what she was looking for, what she had seen in her. Truly, she was already satisfied whether she managed to perform the task she had given her or not.

“May I ask you something, princess?” asked Delia suddenly.

Sindel turned her head to her for a moment. “Of course, Lady Delia, I…” she realized she had broken her concentration and decided to turn her sight back to her hands. Concentrating and speaking with Delia at the same time was impossible, but she didn’t seem to care. “You may ask me whatever you wish.”

“Are Queen Alina and King Ostin usually out of the palace like today?” she asked. The question got a notable reaction from Sindel. “Not that I would question the time they must use for their duties, of course.”

“I know, Lady Delia, do not worry. And… Yes, most days they must be. Their countless important duties require it.” answered Sindel, leaving out a subtle sigh.

“And you don’t accompany them?”

Sindel shook her head. “They have decided that I need to focus on my education here. A wise decision.” she tried to tell herself more than anyone else. “I only accompany them when the presence of our whole family is needed. Last week’s execution, for example.”

In the Edenian Regime, criminals considered especially dangerous, be it for actually heinous action against the citizens or for inspiring too many to question their government, were executed in public, in the hopes they would serve as an example for anyone who may follow their footsteps. Taking children to those events was considered an important part of their education, they served as a cautionary tale for the future citizens and as an example of future duties for those who would become enforcers of the Regime. As Princess of Edenia, Sindel had been taken to watch events of that nature since longer than she could remember. It was already as normal for her as for any other noble, knight or loyal citizen who assisted as a sign of their dedication to the Regime.

Delia analyzed Princess Sindel’s reaction when she gave her answers. She could notice an inner frustration and sense of loneliness in her despite her words, even sympathize with it.

“It is the wisest decision for your future, indeed. But it must be difficult for you, nonetheless, my princess. And I can really understand how you feel.”

Those words were the ones which made Sindel lose her concentration again. She turned her head to Delia directly. “How so, Lady Delia?”

“My talent for magic was discovered when I was very young. When the royal mages were notified of it, it was decided that, to fully exploit my potential, I had to be taken from my home, fully dedicate myself to learning and developing my abilities in the academy. My family was able to visit occasionally, but we inevitably grew distant…” she seemed about to clench her fists for a moment out of frustration, but she held herself back. “At the end, after the many centuries it took me to perfect my skills and learn all I needed, I was able to return home if I wished, but it just didn’t feel like the same anymore. My family and I had become essentially strangers.”

Sindel fully broke her concentration after hearing that, even forgetting about the task she had been told to do for a moment. She fully turned towards Delia to speak to her.

“You have my deepest sympathies for the difficulties you have faced, Lady Delia.”

Delia smiled sincerely at that. “Really appreciated. But do not worry, my current position shows that the sacrifice was worth it. It is thanks to it that I am the best servant of our realm I can be.” she approached Sindel while she said those words. “It also allows me to understand you, princess, so I just wanted you to know. If anytime you need support on top of teachings, let me know. I promise I will be there.”

Sindel couldn’t help but smile widely out of sincere happiness at what she was hearing. For a moment it looked like she may even start to cry, but she decided to hold back.

“Thank you, Lady Delia.”

She decided to pay her back by returning her concentration completely in using her lessons to create a flame. Delia this time stayed closer to her, expecting to see if she would achieve it.

It took some time, maybe a few hours. But now that Sindel had even more motivation not to disappoint her new teacher, she wasn’t going to give up until she managed to do it. And she finally did.

The flame which appeared in her hands was incredibly small, barely noticeable. But in Sindel and Delia’s eyes it represented much more than it seemed, it was the first spark of something else. For Sindel in particular, it was of her growth as a magic user

“Lady Delia, this is thanks to you…” said Sindel, excitedly turning towards Delia, not realizing she had separated her hands in the process, causing the little flame to fall to her skirt.

The flame was too weak to do anything. It didn’t even cause Sindel’s skirt to have a noticeably decolorized part, given that it fell in one of its many black parts. And yet, the exaggerated princess’ reaction would make someone think it was the end of the world.

“Oh, by the Elder Gods!” she exclaimed with panic. “I must deeply apologize, Lady Delia, I have ruined it, I promise it will never repeat, I…”

Delia started laughing lowly at Sindel’s reaction. She found it adorable.

“Do not worry about anything, princess, you have done nothing wrong. Quite the contrary, you may have even surpassed my expectations.” she said, making Sindel calm herself quickly, as well as change her worry for satisfaction with herself. “Although I think this proves that pyromancy may not be your type of magic. That little accident would have been worse if that flame were stronger, after all. It isn’t a problem, however, you will just need to find the kinds of magic which suit you. Perhaps in our next lesson we could try another one.”

Sindel nodded. “It seems like a good idea, yes.”

After the lesson was finished, the mentor and her new student took their time to say goodbye to one another before parting their separate ways.

On the one hand, Sindel returned to her room, this time satisfied with how she had spent her day and feeling she had earned some time to rest.

On the other hand, Delia had very good news to tell to her family.

“Is Daegon sleeping now?” asked the little Taven to his mother, as he tried to see the state of his baby brother who rested in his cuddle.

Amara smiled softly. “Very peacefully.” she made sure to cover her young son with the sheet of his bed. “So you should be a good big brother and go to sleep too so he can rest. Will you do it?”

Taven was about to excitedly exclaim 'yes', which Amara prevented by putting a finger in her lips to remind him Daegon would need silence. He nodded instead.

“As much of a good boy as always.” she kissed her son’s forehead. “Sleep well.” she left the room to allow both her sons a peaceful sleep.

Amara couldn’t stop smiling on her way to meet with her wife and husband. Having a family of her own had been her greatest joy for a lot of time by that point, and being around her sons only reminded her.

It definitely helped the Lady of Storm deal with the still present pain of the loss of her first family. All thanks to a power-hungry warlord, all thanks to the existence of that kind of despicable barbarians in Outworld.

She had sworn to do anything necessary to protect her realm and family since then, to make sure she would never lose them. And what she was about to discuss with Delia and Argus was to ensure that… from her point of view, at least.

She went to the meeting room of her house, where Delia and Argus had been waiting for her.

“Are Taven and Daegon already sleeping?” asked Delia when she arrived.

Amara nodded. “And healthy.”

“Then we may start to discuss things now.” said Argus, before speaking to Delia. “It is her, Delia?”

“It is.” said Delia, with no doubt left.

A few days ago, she had one of her visions, a possible future that filled her with hope. One in which the Edenian Regime stopped limiting itself to maintain its eternal peace in Edenia and expanded it across all realms, leadered by their wisest and bravest monarch. Now that Delia had taken advantage of their recent meeting with their current rulers to get closer to the princess, she had it clear who that monarch would be.

“She shall bring the pacification.” continued saying Delia. “She only needs the right guidance.”

Both Argus and Amara were satisfied with their wife’s answer.

“Then it is our duty to ensure she gets that guidance.” said Argus. He had tried to hold himself back for some time, but he couldn’t tolerate it anymore. His fellow protector gods had generally done a pretty poor job in his eyes, failing to help their mortals establish truly peaceful societies. It was time to ‘assist’ other realms.

“It is. We must ensure the future you have seen comes to be, dear. For Edenia, and for every innocent across all other realms condemned to live in uncivilized societies.” said Amara, who had waited for a long time for the chance to do something like this. “Do you think you will be able to guide her, Delia?”

“I will, my dear. I have already started.”

For Delia, the little flame Sindel had made was the first spark of a glorious, peaceful future…
