❄ Holiday gift giveaway | The Night Circus | for Dakota // @magic-in-every-book from Lore // @iridescentetherealdragon You walk toward the gates, reading the card in your hand again. Before you pass through the gates to the field beyond, you turn back to the ticket booth, but it is empty, a black grate pulled down over it. You tuck the card carefully in your pocket. The step through the gates that takes you from painted ground to bare grass feels heavy. You think, as you walk away from Le Cirque des Rêves and into the creeping dawn, that you felt more awake within the confines of the circus. You are no longer quite certain which side of the fence is the dream.

Hi! I don't know if you answered this before but what drew you to play DL in the first place? 😁
@iridescentetherealdragon
A combination of mainly two things!
1. I had been getting into the otome game scene in general through Mystic Messenger
2. I wanted to practice my Japanese listening and reading skills with authentic material. While I wouldn’t say DL is the best studying source, since some of the characters have a very peculiar ways of talking which you won’t really encounter in real life. It’s still better than the stuff at university which was so blatantly obviously geared towards foreigners though. >

Hey! Your anons can sure be nasty, I don't see why is a problem that OX calls himself a He, he could call himself an alien for all I care, cuz the art is still what connect us. Isn't?, it's a person that gives us something beautiful to admire and appreciate, we just have to respect the artist, is just basic manners, anyways I like your blog a lot and I think you're really cool hehe. Have a nice one 😎

Tag game!
Tagged by @call-me-ala & @i-got-these-words - thank you~ 💖
Are you named after anyone?
Nope.
When was the last time you cried?
Hard to tell, ‘cause all days looks the same, but definitely this week. Thursday maybe?
Do you have kids?
No, but it’d be nice to adopt a doggo in the future [when i have enough money].
Do you use sarcasm a lot?
Every time i talk with someone. But sacsam is a common thing in this country. I remember when one of my foreigner teachers started working at my uni and it was unusual for him. But it seems he liked it and after a semester or a year he learned [from us - students] how to use sarcasm in everyday conversations.
What’s the first thing you notice about people?
If they’re weirdos or a kind of people i don’t wanna have anything to do with.
What’s your eye color?
Blue.
Scary movie or happy endings?
Scary movies are boring and happy endings sometimes makes me wanna puke. Give me some adventure or action, make me laugh or cry, you can rip my heart out and leave me there to bleed.
Any special talents?
Haha... No.
Where were you born?
In a hospital.
What are your hobbies?
... Don’t have any. I want to find something but i have no idea what would be good for me. But i also don’t have time for myself - i’ll start looking for something when i graduate.
Do you have any pets?
No... :< But i always wanted a doggo. Or a cat.
How tall are you?
168 cm
What sports do you play/have you played?
When i was in primary school, i used to play volleyball. Our team was one of the strongest in the whole country. At that time i also run and took part in many races. But for some [stupid?] reasons i gave up on those.
When i was on my 2nd year at uni, i had aerobic as a PE. Then i decided to start going to the gym. And i really enjoyed it, but i had to give up due to lack of money.
And lately i try to do some light exercises, and it was nice when i was in the dorm, but now that i’m stuck at home someone/something is still bothering me.
Favorite subject(s) in school?
I don’t think there was anything i liked.
Dream job?
I just want to get a job .-. But if i were to choose, i’d like to try working at a cafe.

21 in 2021
@the-forest-library, thank you for the tag, lovely!  💛
Rules! Choose 21 books you want to read or goals you want to achieve in 2021. That’s it! It can be a mix of books and goals, or 21 books, or 21 goals…. it’s up to you. Then tag some friends to play along.
It looks like a good year for new releases! I have a handful of those from my favorite authors and a couple buddy reads, but my main goal for this year is to finish a lot of the series I've started. I've counted and it's upwards of forty books, which is just ridiculous. I'm trying to be more selective about the series I commit to in the future. 😅
Over the Woodward Wall by A. Deborah Baker
The Lives of Saints by Leigh Bardugo
Tales From the Hinterland by Melissa Albert
Any Way The Wind Blows by Rainbow Rowell
Mister Impossible by Maggie Stiefvater
Across the Green Grass Fields by Seanan McGuire
Angel of the Overpass by Seanan McGuire
Rafael by Laurell K. Hamilton
A Court of Silver Flames by Sarah J. Maas
Camp Carnage by Joshua Winning
The Lake by Natasha Preston
UnSouled by Neal Shusterman
UnDivided by Neal Shusterman
UnBound by Neal Shusterman
Dark Consort by Amber R. Duell
Night Warden by Amber R. Duell
Home by Nnedi Okorafor
The Night Masquerade by Nnedi Okorafor
Masquerade by Laura Lam
The Queen of Nothing by Holly Black
Restless Slumber by K.J. Sutton

Macbeth Witches’ Speech Tag Game
@therefugeofbooks, thank you for the tag, sweetface!
1. “Thrice the brinded cat hath mew’d.” Recommend a book with a cat in it Small Spaces by Katherine Arden is a delightfully spooky middlegrade read that's perfect for October! (The cat plays only a small role though.)
2. “Harpier cries ‘Tis time, 'tis time.” What is the next book you plan to read? Next on my October TBR is Carrie by Stephen King. It's a reread for me, but I have this bonkers idea that I might try to read all of King's novels in order of publication.
3. “Round about the cauldron go” Recommend a book it took you a long time to read I have a bad habit of trying to read long books as fast as I possibly can, so I've been setting myself one intimidating classic a year for the past couple years to make sure I pace myself. The best one by far is Les Misérables!
4. “Eye of newt and toe of frog” Recommend a book from your childhood OR recommend a gross book I have a million loved childhood books, but since I have Something Wicked This Way Comes (1983) on in the background, I'll go with that! I practically memorized the book when I was younger.
5. “Make the gruel thick and slab” Recommend a book over 400 pages Into the Drowning Deep by Mira Grant clocks in at 440, but it reads so fast! I always need more murder mermaids in my life.
6. “Double, double toil and trouble/Fire burn and caludron bubble” Recommend any book you like My most recent favorite is Unwind by Neal Shusterman. I thought I was pretty over the dystopian genre, but it's top shelf, ethically complicated, and full of great characters.
No idea who's done this already, so no pressure! Tagging: @the-forest-library, @coffeebooksorme, @anassarhenisch, @infinite-jest-again, @sylvanshiner, @iridescentetherealdragon, @thelivebookproject, @aliteraryprincess, @bookcub, @infinitebookwrms, @maddie-mux

The Wicked King by Holly Black
"'Your ridiculous family might be surprised to find that not everything is solved by murder,' Locke calls after me. 'We would be surprised to find that,' I call back."
Year Read: 2020
Rating: 4/5
About: There are spoilers ahead for The Cruel Prince. Months after Jude manipulated Cardan into being king of Elfhame, she's struggling under the weight of all her scheming. No one knows that Jude is the real power behind the crown, and threats come from every side. The Undersea is threatening war, Madoc holds a grudge for being outwitted, and Jude may have a traitor in her very own Shadow Court. Worst of all, her year of holding power over Cardan is rapidly coming to an end. How can Jude remain in control and protect the ones she loves while fighting her feelings for the one person she can never afford to trust? Trigger warnings: death, abduction, torture/starvation, violence, injury, blood, vomiting.
Thoughts: This was another fabulous buddy read with Lore @iridescentetherealdragon. I'm so excited to be reading this series with a friend because it's full of twists and turns worth screeching about. Safe to say that neither of us ever see Black's twist endings coming! I've never yet managed to guess one, and I love it. That being said, my thoughts on this book are about the same as my thoughts on The Cruel Prince. They're almost startlingly alike in pacing: slow-moving through the first half of the book, where there's a lot of scheming but not much action, and then violent endings with a plot twist to blow your mind.
I'm still on the same page about Jude and Cardan as well. I like Jude, and she fits well with Black's penchant for rebellious outsiders whose flaws are on full display. Her heroines aren't always likable, but they are compelling. Cardan is a devious, somewhat toxic love interest with a complicated history and the occasional surprising glimmer of decency that suggests he might someday be a worthy king. Their relationship isn't healthy (nor is it portrayed that way), but I'm interested to see how it develops. I'm looking forward to a thrilling conclusion in The Queen of Nothing.
