I stated my day posting about the need for us to do better. By now many of you have seen the video of this elder being stared down by the poster child for the future of white supremacy. I will not post the encounter on my feed, but it’s all over Twitter and major news outlets. It’s also available on the original posters feed. See below. I’m not going to lie. I felt this one. This moment weighs heavy on my heart. The racism... the ignorance... of the young people in the other video. The disrespect to this elder... to #NativeAmericans... to our ancestors. The words of this elder are simple, earnest, heartfelt, and painful. They echo the pain of generations. “We did not have walls.” “We took care of our elder and our children.” Please take 56 seconds. Watch this video. Listen to his words. Understand the struggle. Thank you @ka_ya11 for posting. #Repost @ka_ya11 with @get_repost ・・・ #ipmdc #ipmdc19 #indigenousunited #indigenouspeoplesmarch #indigenouspeoplesmarch2019 https://www.instagram.com/p/Bs1Cw43hLQv/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=18hxxei6z580

Powerful Photos From the Indigenous Peoples March on Washington
On Friday, January 18, Indigenous organizers took their movement to the capitol, inaugurating the first-ever Indigenous Peoples March on Washington (#IPMDC19). According to organizer Roberto Borrero, who spoke with Teen Vogue, over 1,000 people representing more than 100 tribal nations marched in Washington, D.C. — traditionally Paskatawe land — calling for policies that strengthen Native sovereignty and recognition of the deep injustices that continue to affect their communities.
Organizers for the event claim that the violence of settler colonization hasnt disappeared into the past; today, it takes form as extractive industry land violations, police brutality, disappearing Native women and girls, systematic voter suppression, contaminated natural resources, structural poverty, and other manifestations of collective oppression. These challenges afflict communities everywhere, from South Dakota to Guatemala.
Speakers at the march inspired the crowd to keep organizing to protect their rights and also facilitated group prayers and dances. The day in Washington, D.C. was as much about strengthening future coalitions as healing from past trauma. After centuries of forced assimilation, genocide, and erasure, the Indigenous movement shows tremendous resilience — as signs held by those on the ground read, “we are still here,” “we are unafraid,” and “we are rising up.”

Excerpt from this EcoWatch article:
Raising alarm about human rights violations and the global climate crisis, activists from around the world are traveling to Washington, DC for the first annual Indigenous Peoples March, which will kick off at 8 a.m. local time on Jan. 18 outside the U.S. Department of the Interior's main building.
"It's wonderful—and needed, now more than ever—to see so many tribes and organizations coming together to raise awareness about the ongoing need to preserve and respect the rights of Indigenous peoples," said organizer Phyllis Young of the Lakota People's Law Project.
Launched by the Indigenous Peoples Movement, a newly formed coalition dedicated to fostering positive change on "issues that directly affect our lands, peoples, and respective cultures," the march will be preceded by a group prayer at 9 a.m. and followed by an evening fundraising concert at the Songbird Music House.
"Indigenous people from North, Central and South America, Oceania, Asia, Africa, and the Caribbean are a target of genocide," the organizers charge. "Currently, many Indigenous people are victims of voter suppression, divided families by walls and borders, an environmental holocaust, sex and human trafficking, and police/military brutality with little or no resources and awareness of this injustice."
More than 10,000 marchers are anticipated to descend on DC for the event, including people from Australia, Guatemala, Papua New Guinea, Canada, the Caribbean and across the U.S. Those interested in participating or supporting the march can check for updates on the official Facebook event, and are encouraged to post updates to social media using the hashtags #IPMDC19 and #WHYIMARCH.

Its time that we hold people accountable. Our march was a march of beauty peace and an awakening of consciousness. Unfortunately these youth from March for Life disrespected Indigenous elder Nathan Phillips (Omaha) and other indigenous drummers. We demand an apology as well educational programs taught by Indigenous organizations in these catholic private schools. Call the numbers and tell them how you feel!
