Obviously, Pathologic 3 should be called just Utopia. Come on!

Then Pathologic 4 could be called Мор Утопия 2. It just makes sense.

Saw a post here about names of pathologic characters, and decided to share some thoughts regarding our beloathed Bachelor, because I realised something and have to share it with you.

So, what do we know? Well, his name is certainly Daniil and his surname is Dankovsky. “What about his patronymic?” you might ask. Here it’s a bit more complicated, but knowing that he once signed a letter with D.D.D. we can safely assume his patronymic starts with a D, and as a matter of fact, I’m quite sure that it’s actually Daniilovich (i.e. his father’s name was also Daniil), though my arguments in favour of this are rather funny

1)Name:

Daniil, what does this name mean? To begin with, the name comes from Hebrew (“Dānīyyēʾl” in romanised version) and literally means “God is my judge”. What is more interesting, in my opinion, is that this name is partially formed by another Jewish name, “Dan”. “Dan” literally means “judge” and its most known bearer is Dan, son of Jacob (also known as Israel, the angel-wrestling guy), who was (according to the Bible) the founder of the Tribe of Dan. Moreover, the symbol of this tribe is a serpent, because of Dan’s sly, scheming, and calculating character.

Apart from that, Bachelor’s a doctor, and one of the most famous symbols of medicine (at least in Russia) is a Bowl of Hygieia, see a simple example below

This also could be an intended symbolism, which probably started with IPL thinking how they would name their genius-doctor-character, and then spiralling down into all these snake-related topics, eventually choosing Daniil. It might have been just a funny coincidence. Someone can probably text them on Twitter and ask.

2)Surname:

Here it’s a bit tricky, and please do feel free to correct me, because the info I’ll give here might be false. Anyway. When I first started P1, I was a bit puzzled by Bachelor’s surname. You see, even though it is defo a Slavic surname (e.g. -sky ending), it doesn’t make much sense to a Russian speaking person, since what the hell is “Dankov”? A surname in a surname, now ending with “-ov”? Well, here is a potential explanation:

Western Slavs have a form of “Daniel”, namely “Danko”. As far as I understand, it can be a surname (and it is, in various forms, at least in Slovakia and Ukraine). This makes the surname “Dankovsky” mean something like “of the Danko” “son of Danko” “belonging to Danko” etc. All this suggests that, if we translate his surname to Russian in the literal manner, it would change to “Daniilov”. So you see where I’m going, right..?

3)Patronymic:

So. What do we have. “Daniil” as a name, and a surname which apparently (through numerous layers of linguistic irony) is also formed from the name “Daniil”. And we know that his patronymic starts with D. Do I dare suggest that his patronymic follows this silly pattern as well, so it would be “Daniilovich”?

This leaves us with a beautiful name of Daniil Daniilovich Daniilov, which sounds rather humorous and comical to russian-speaking folks (reminds us of the legendary Ivan Ivanovich Ivanov). As a close friend of mine suggested, that could have been a placeholder of sorts during the early development of the game and/or character, when IPL only came up with a name, but not with everything else. Then they decided not to over-invent things, and just obscure the surname via translating and adapting it to Western Slavic languages (Polish and apparently Slovak, I would guess), and basically never mentioning his patronymic. Ingenious if you ask me

4)Takeaways:

Not much, unless you see a sentence where I’m talking out of my ass, please I beg you speak up if messed up the Western Slavic part, I’m not native to those languages, so could’ve missed something there.

More importantly! For me, all these layers behind DDD name form a very concrete foundation for my headcanon that Bachelor is of Polish-Jewish origin. In general, his surname suggests lots of interesting stuff, so explore the linguistic opportunities my fellow patho people

Either Papaver somniferum (Opium Poppy)

or Papaver nudicaule (Icelandic Poppy)

Both belong to the same family, both contain a form of alkaloids, and as is common with poppies, they're a symbol of perseverance, hope, and you'll never guess what else... resurrection.

The Icelandic Poppy is usually grown for ornamental reasons, their lush full petals and wide ranges of colours makes them popular.

While the Opium Poppy is grown for... opium production, obviously, to harvest its alkaloids, and to get poppy seeds. It's also known as the breadseed poppy because you can eat its seed (as opposed to the Icelandic variant)

Now, this is the part where the puzzle pieces start coming together. The Kain surname is a play on the word Novocaine, most commonly known as Procaine (as said in an IPL interview) and you see that -caine ending there is very common to find in drugs. Why? Because it's a suffixe that indicates the use of alkaloids "synthetic alkaloid anesthetic" See also: cocaine containing a tropane alkaloid found in coca plant (no it's not the chocolate one; you're thinking of T.cacao)

While alkaloids is a general term for organic compounds with nitrogen atoms (or just one really) Morphine is specifically isolated from the Opium Poppy alkaloids. Which makes Katerina's abusive usage of it kind of ironic.

Back to the plant in Maria's room, while the flower texture file is of a poppy, the actual whole plant structure is anything but.

A) This is a fake plant Maria has for decoration

B) this is actually a desert flower plant as evident by the wooden branches and minimal (or lack thereof) of leafs and greenery. All common traits in desert flowers.

Which usually are a symbol of transformation, oh yes :) the flower sheds its outer layer to reveal the beautiful rose inside. It shows immense strength to prosper in a very hostile environment.

Conclusion: Ice Pick Lodge please release Pathologic 3 soon and my soul is yours. I'm elbows deep inside a two decades old game's guts shaking the organs out of the folders and reading way too much into the choice of common bargin bin texture files. I do not have the budget for a tinfoil hat, not in this economy. I'm begging on my knees.

updates on renata and yuri's situation, dybowski and ipl

Please take the time to read Renata's latest thread.

The judicial decision that Yuri should live with Renata until the end of the proceedings still stands. The next meetings are scheduled to only take place at the end of the spring or later.

As expected, Dybowski has been lying consistently during every hearing and insisted on realizing an abusive psychological exam to test Yuri and try to manipulate him into choosing him over Renata. Yuri is still afraid of him and this exam was painful for both him and Renata.

On March 7th, Dybowski sued Renata for defamation, wanting the indemnity to be transferred under the pretense of being alimony for their child even if such indemnity is 4 times the amount of alimony he's been paying. Ironically this is already proof that Dybowski is more than capable of the accusations of money laundering against him.

Renata is also disappointed in IPL's years-long silence about Dybowski's abuse but I'd say read her own words.

At some point there has to be an analysis here of how IPL and our patriarchal culture has been complicit in this or else nothing will change. I only hope the employees decide to do the right thing and come forward against him because it's incredibly unfair that over and over again Renata and other victims have to risk everything to stand alone while others see no evil in looking the other way.

On the IPL situation, so far there's been no guarantees that Dybowski is or isn't at IPL anymore. However, it's good to remember that Dybowski probably has offshore accounts in Cyprus and Kazakhstan being used for any and all kinds of financial abuse and crimes and will possibly be benefiting financially from the game, and that's IF the IPL statement was legit and not a diversion tactic seeing how incredibly convenient it's being for Patho's sales. I really hope I'm wrong, but even Popov doesn't seem to have the legal authority to kick Dybowski out at this point.

Also IPL has curiously still not updated their tax info and we're already approaching the 2nd quarter of 2025. If they go back to reporting their financial info as normal then that's one sign Dybowski's truly gone.
