The tyranny of choice
I logged on to Apple’s website at 1pm London time yesterday. Fingers hovering over the button is to select my new iPhone 15. I had gone back-and-forth in my mind about which model I wanted to go for. No question about the memory I wanted and no question about the colour. It was obviously going to be blue titanium. But when it came to the screen size, I was stuck. I couldn’t make up my mind…

iPhone 16 vs. iPhone 15-Display and Design
Apple retains the round and sleek design of its predecessor in the iPhone 16 model but with minor tweaks and enhancements. Unlike the stainless steel materials used in the iPhone 15 Pro models, the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max come with a titanium frame, enhancing the device’s premium look. Another notable design change is the camera arrangement. While the iPhone 15 model featured a diagonal layout, the iPhone 16 adopts a vertical orientation.
Both the iPhone 16 and iPhone 15 have almost similar display features. The iPhone 16 continues with the same 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display with 2556 x 1179 resolution for both models, with a peak brightness of 2000 nits. Though Apple introduced the Dynamic Island feature in the iPhone 14 Pro, the feature is well integrated into the latest iPhone 16 to enhance the device’s performance.
iPhone 16 vs. iPhone 15-Processor and Battery
In comparison to its predecessor, the iPhone 16 has major upgrades in terms of performance. Unlike the iPhone 15 model, which used the A16 Bionic chipset, the new device has an A18 processor. This enhances the overall performance and the device’s capability to handle intelligence features more efficiently, offering benefits such as less loading time, easy multitasking, etc.
There are also significant improvements in the iPhone 16’s battery capacity. Both the series are powered by Lithium-ion batteries and can reach 50% charge in 30 minutes. However, the iPhone 16 provides a slight upgrade over it, as the charging capacity of these devices can be further enhanced by pairing them with a 30W adaptor. Moreover, it also offers up to 22 hours of video playback and 80 hours of audio playback, in contrast to the 20 hours of video playback of iPhone 15. Supporting USB-C charging and MagSafe wireless charging, both models offer a convenient way for users to charge their devices.
iPhone 16 vs. iPhone 15-Camera
There are major upgrades in the camera features of the iPhone 16. The iPhone 15 and iPhone 16 have a 48 MP primary sensor with a 12 MP ultra-wide-angle sensor, and the front camera boasts a resolution of 12 MP. However, the new 16 series supports additional features such as capturing spatial photos and videos, macro photography and videography, enhanced low-light performance, etc.
Other camera upgrades in the iPhone 16 series include the anti-reflective lens coating, 4K Dolby Vision recording, 1080p Dolby Vision recording, wind noise reduction technology, spatial audio support, etc. Also, slow-motion videos can be captured with professional detail in the new iPhone 16. In short, the camera control features of the iPhone 15 models are not as advanced as the latest iPhone 16 devices.
iPhone 16 vs. iPhone 15-Connectivity Features
The iPhone 16 does not offer many changes in connectivity features compared to the previous model. While features like the USB Type-C 2.0 port, Ultra-Wideband chip, NFC support, Bluetooth 5.3 support, GPS 5G LTE, etc. remain unchanged, the iPhone 16 model supports Wi-Fi 7, offering a more stable internet connection.
iPhone 16 vs. iPhone 15-Operating System and AI Features
Both the models run on Apple’s latest operating system, iOS 18. However, the iPhone 16 is integrated with the AI-driven assistant, the Apple Intelligence. Its advanced AI capabilities help users streamline processes and provide powerful tools for writing, communication, image creation, and more. Rewriting, summarising, and generating images are made easier using AI-enhanced features.
iPhone 16 vs. iPhone 15-Colour Availability
Both models are available in a range of colours, allowing users to choose according to their preferences. The iPhone 16 comes in a variety of colours, including Ultramarine, Teal, White, Black, and Pink. In contrast, the iPhone 15 is available in a series of colours, including Pink, Yellow, Green, Blue and Black.
iPhone 16 vs. iPhone 15-Additional Features
Crash Detection
Apple consistently prioritises user safety, as can be seen with the integration of crash detection technology across its devices. By detecting car crashes and automatically contacting emergency services, the device ensures timely assistance during critical situations. Like the iPhone 15, the new iPhone 16 also builds upon this functionality with an even more advanced system that provides faster and more accurate responses.
Durability
Both the iPhone 16 and iPhone 15 come with an IP68 water and dust resistance rating, allowing them to withstand water exposure of up to 6 metres for 30 minutes. Users can have complete peace of mind knowing that their devices are safe against splashes, accidental drops, and rain. Moreover, the IP68 rating also safeguards the device against damage by dust.
Environmental Protection
Apple, being a responsible manufacturer, used more recyclable materials in the construction of both iPhone 16 and iPhone 15, with a focus on sustainability.

Final Verdict
While the launch of the iPhone 16 has created much excitement among users, there are no significant changes compared to the iPhone 15. The key differences between the two models are primarily found in the camera, performance and battery life. The integration of the A18 chipset improves the device’s graphics and overall performance.
In short, if you are seeking a better upgrade than your current iPhone 15, then switching to the latest iPhone 16 might not be the best decision. However, if you are aware of the specifications of both models and want to experience the latest trends in technology, the iPhone 16 can enhance your user experience with its refined features like the Apple Intelligence.

Apple iPhone 16: Everything We Know So Far in
Apple iPhone 16: Everything We Know So Far in 2500 words. The Apple iPhone 16, set for release in September 2024, is one of the most highly anticipated tech launches of the year. Here's a detailed breakdown of what we know so far about the iPhone 16 series: 1. Design and Size Changes The iPhone 16 is expected to feature a few design updates, most notably in the Pro models. The iPhone 16 Pro will have a larger 6.3-inch display, while the iPhone 16 Pro Max will sport a 6.9-inch screen, making them slightly taller and wider than the previous iPhone 15 Pro models. However, the standard iPhone 16 and 16 Plus models are not expected to see size changes and will retain the dimensions of the iPhone 15. Additionally, the iPhone 16 Pro models will have slimmer bezels, thanks to Border Reduction Structure (BRS) technology, which allows for a more compact layout of the internal components. The materials used will maintain a premium feel with the continuation of titanium frames for the Pro models. 2. Display Technology Apple is rumored to implement micro-lens array (MLA) technology in the OLED displays of the iPhone 16 lineup. This could improve both brightness and power efficiency by reducing internal reflections, allowing for a brighter screen without increasing power consumption. 3. Camera Enhancements Cameras have always been a strong focus for Apple, and the iPhone 16 series will be no exception. The iPhone 16 Pro models are expected to come with an upgraded 48MP Ultra-Wide Camera, improving the 0.5x zoom and macro photography capabilities. Additionally, Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD) technology will be applied to reduce lens flares and improve image clarity. Moreover, there will be a new Capture button on the iPhone 16 Pro models, potentially used for enhanced camera controls, such as focus and zoom.
4. Performance Upgrades The iPhone 16 Pro models are expected to feature the new A18 Pro chip, which will be built on a second-generation 3nm process, delivering increased performance and efficiency. This chip will also improve the Neural Engine, enhancing the phone’s AI capabilities. For the standard iPhone 16 models, the A17 chip from the iPhone 15 Pro is expected to be used, with some performance modifications to support new features. 5. MagSafe and Battery Improvements The MagSafe magnets in the iPhone 16 series are expected to be thinner, which could improve the alignment and efficiency of MagSafe accessories. While battery capacity improvements have not been heavily leaked, the larger form factor of the Pro models may allow for a slight increase in battery life. 6. Face ID and Touch ID Although there were rumors about Touch ID making a comeback, it seems that Apple will stick with Face ID as the primary biometric security option. There are, however, discussions around embedding Face ID components beneath the display for a cleaner front design. 7. Colors The iPhone 16 series will offer several color options, including black, white, blue, green, and pink, with no mention of purple or yellow in this year's lineup. These colors will feature a frosted glass finish, similar to the iPhone 15 models. 8. Release Date and Pricing Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 16 during its annual September event, with pre-orders starting shortly after. The pricing for the iPhone 16 series is expected to be similar to the iPhone 15 lineup, although the larger and more advanced Pro models could see a slight increase. In conclusion, the iPhone 16 series will introduce notable improvements in display, camera, and performance, with a few design tweaks to enhance user experience. For those keen on photography and high-end performance, the Pro models will likely stand out, while the standard models will continue to deliver solid features for the average user. Be Gentle with Apple's New Titanium iPhone 15 Pro Max ... Yikes!Apple has introduced titanium on their latest iPhone 15 Pro Max, a choice that brings both excitement and concerns. Titanium is renowned for its remarkable properties. It's biocompatible, used in medical applications like artificial joints and repairing bones, and it's tough enough for building interstellar spacecraft and robotic explorers. Personally, I have a ring made from titanium reclaimed from a wheelchair, showcasing its versatility. However, Apple's choice of titanium isn't without its quirks, as I discovered.#### The Marvel of TitaniumTitanium comes in various grades, each with distinct characteristics. Grade 1 titanium is the cheapest and softest, making it easy to machine, which I initially assumed Apple would use for their iPhone. But Apple surprised us with Grade 5 titanium, a much stronger and more expensive variant. For context, a one-inch titanium bar costs around $170, while a similarly sized 6061 aluminum bar, typically used in smartphones, costs just $10. The difference in material cost is stark, highlighting Apple's commitment to premium materials.#### Unboxing the iPhone 15 Pro MaxOpening the iPhone 15 Pro Max box reveals the sleek new device. The blue titanium finish is similar to the shade I produced, though slightly off. Notably, the box contains a braided USB-C cable instead of the usual lightning cable, signaling a shift in Apple's approach. This move might set a new standard, leading to wider adoption of USB-C ports globally. The phone itself feels robust, with brushed titanium sides and an etched back glass. Apple's claim of using the strongest glass ever, dubbed "ceramic shield," is put to the test. Typically, plastic screens scratch at a level 2 or 3, glass at 5 or 6, and sapphire at 8 or 9 on the Mohs scale. The ceramic shield scratches at a level 6, with deeper grooves at level 7, but the scratches are less pronounced, indicating a significant improvement.#### The Titanium Frame and Its ChallengesThe titanium sides feature a Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) coating, which adds an ultra-thin protective layer. Despite this, the coating scratches easily, similar to anodized aluminum. Interestingly, the 5G antenna slot is impervious to scratches, hinting at a different, more resilient material. The power button and the new action button are also scratchable, showcasing the limitations of the PVD coating.Apple spent 14 hours applying this finish, but my jerry-rigged knife removed it in seconds. This disparity underscores the vulnerability of even the most meticulously crafted surfaces. The matte back glass is resilient, resisting scratches, while the smooth Apple logo remains a minor exception.#### Exploring the Camera and AI FeaturesThe iPhone 15 Pro Max boasts significant camera upgrades. The main camera features a 48-megapixel sensor with a nano-scale coating to reduce glare. The standout is the 12-megapixel 5x tetraprism telephoto lens, which reflects light four times before hitting the sensor, providing enhanced stabilization. The ultra-wide camera, also 12 megapixels, works in tandem with the telephoto lens to generate spatial video, a feature reminiscent of the HTC Evo 3D from 12 years ago.During the teardown, I aim to explore these camera innovations further. Apple's claim that the back glass is easily removable for repairs is a commendable step toward repairability. However, they also state that the internal structure is made from 100% recycled aluminum, indicating that the frame is not solid Grade 5 titanium, explaining some of its limitations.#### The Durability TestThe iPhone 15 Pro Max's 6.7-inch OLED display, with 2000 nits of outdoor brightness and a 120 Hz refresh rate, is impressive. However, its durability is questionable. In my durability test, the phone's frame did not fare well. Most phones, especially iPhones, are incredibly resilient, but the iPhone 15 Pro Max snapped abnormally quickly under pressure. The titanium frame,
with its high tensile strength and low elasticity, combined with the back glass, couldn't withstand the stress. This quick failure was unexpected and concerning for a flagship device.#### Handling Heat and Titanium's ReactionTo further test the titanium's properties, I exposed it to extreme heat using a MAP gas torch. While the titanium itself can handle the heat, the phone's circuitry and screen cannot. The titanium frame began changing colors, confirming its authenticity. Apple's choice of Grade 5 titanium, though, raises questions about cost and practicality.Scaling a small piece of Grade 5 titanium to a block large enough to mill a phone would cost nearly $2,000, not including the complexity of shaping it. This expense makes it unlikely that Apple is using solid Grade 5 titanium for the entire frame. Instead, they likely employ a titanium-aluminum hybrid to manage costs while retaining some benefits of titanium.#### The Practicalities of Titanium and Real-World UsageOwning a titanium iPhone 15 Pro Max presents practical challenges. The phone's finish is prone to scratches, and its structural integrity is compromised under pressure. While the titanium frame is impressive, it might not be the best choice for a device that needs to withstand daily wear and tear. The modular glass design is a step forward, reducing repair costs, but the overall durability remains a concern.Furthermore, using a clear case to showcase the titanium frame could backfire, as most clear cases turn yellow under sunlight due to photooxidation. Dbrand's never-yellowing ghost case offers a solution, maintaining the phone's aesthetic while protecting it.#### Comparing to the Regular iPhone 15 ProThe regular iPhone 15 Pro does not suffer from the same structural issues as the Max version. Strong bends from the back and front do not affect its integrity, suggesting that the titanium-aluminum hybrid structure works better for the smaller model. This difference highlights the challenges Apple faces in scaling materials for larger devices.#### ConclusionThe iPhone 15 Pro Max, with its titanium frame, represents Apple's push for innovation and premium materials. However, this choice brings both benefits and drawbacks. The titanium frame, while strong, compromises the phone's overall durability, making it susceptible to damage under pressure. The high cost of Grade 5 titanium further complicates its practical application. While the phone boasts impressive features and a sleek design, its real-world durability remains questionable. As Apple continues to refine its approach, balancing innovation with practicality will be crucial. For now, users should handle their titanium iPhones with care and consider protective measures to maintain their investment.

Should You Upgrade The MacBook Pro M4? Things to Consider
MacBook Pro M4
Beginning in late 2024, Apple intends to update the MacBook Pro with M4 CPUs. This guide compiles all of the information Apple has available regarding their MacBook Pro M4 plans.
The M4 Update
Apple did not anticipate changing the M4’s node from the M3, which was constructed using a novel 3-nanometer technology. Although TSMC, an Apple supplier, may release updates to increase its speed and efficiency, it will still be a 3-nanometer processor.
There are rumours that Apple’s forthcoming products will have new features related to artificial intelligence; thus, the M4 will concentrate on AI. Apple is reportedly looking to enhance the M4 (as well as the A18 CPUs for the iPhone) to feature an improved Neural Engine with “significantly” more cores in order to boost performance for AI functions.
The 16-core Neural Engine found in all M3 chips has not been expanded by Apple in a number of years.
Entry-Level MacBook Pro 14-Inch
Last year, Apple discontinued the 13-inch MacBook Pro with the M3 chip. New 14-inch MacBook Pros with three chip configurations have replaced it.
A regular M4 chip will be added to the $1,599 14-inch MacBook Pro with an M3 chip. Current M3 chips have 8-core CPUs and up to 10-core GPUs; M4 chips may be comparable.
Luxury 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pros
The 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models with M4 Pro and M4 Max chips, more powerful versions of the speedier M4 chip, will be upgraded for “pro” users.
The M3 Pro gets up to a 12-core CPU and 18-core GPU, while the M3 Max gets 16-core and 40-core. Unknown CPU and GPU enhancements for the MacBook Pro M4 and M4 Max.
Alterations to the Design?
No rumors of a MacBook Pro design change yet, and they are not due. After switching to Apple silicon in 2021, Apple redesigned the MacBook Pro design. Apple has updated the MacBook in 2012, 2016, and 2021, so expect another update in 2025 or 2026.
The MacBook Pro’s internals may get the M-series update this year.
MacBook Pro M4 Release Date
The 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro revamp is expected in late 2024 to early 2025, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. The entry-level 14-inch MacBook Pro may get an M4 CPU in late 2024.
Like the M3 chip range, Apple might release the M4, M4 Pro, and M4 Max variations all at once or over several months.
Since the M3 MacBook Pro launched in October 2023, a refresh in October 2024 would signify a year.
iPhone 15 Pro/Max
Apple’s premium iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max have the most fancy features and bells and whistles. For iPhone power users, Pro variants are available.
A $999 iPhone 15 Pro and $1,199 iPhone 15 Pro Max are available. Size, battery capacity, and 5x telephoto lens technology distinguish the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, which have similar feature sets.
iPhone 15 Pro Max features a 6.7-inch display, whereas iPhone 15 Pro has 6.1. The two models have the identical appearance, however the chassis and edge curvature have been somewhat updated from the ones from the previous year.
A “Ceramic Shield” front cover that provides improved drop protection, a pill-shaped Dynamic Island that contains the front-facing camera technology and Face ID hardware, and edge-to-edge OLED screens with minimal bezels are all features that are shared by both iPhones. Despite having an all-glass body, Apple added a titanium frame this year. Better than stainless steel, titanium is lighter and stronger.
Phone conversations, timers, Face ID, Bluetooth connections, and more are displayed on the iPhone’s Dynamic Island. New colour options for the two iPhones include natural, blue, black, and white titanium. Other colour options include stainless steel.
This year, the A17 Pro chip is only found in the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, which are the only iPhones to use it. Both of these models are equipped with the chip. The A16 chip, which was formerly utilised in the iPhone 14 Pro variants, is now included in the model lineup of the ordinary iPhone 15. Apple’s A17 Pro is constructed on the company’s 3-nanometer node, which brings about significant gains in both performance and economy. The processor supports console-level gameplay with hardware-accelerated ray tracing and mesh shading and up to 20% faster GPU performance.
A 48-megapixel Main camera with better low-light performance, a Telephoto lens, and an Ultra Wide camera remain, but the Telephoto lens has been improved. Apple has implemented Tetraprism technology in the iPhone 15 Pro Max to facilitate a 5x optical zoom. 3x optical zoom is available on the smaller iPhone 15 Pro.
Apple’s MacBook Pro M4 Specs
There isn’t an official announcement from Apple regarding the M4 MacBook Pro yet, but based on leaks and rumors, here’s a table of what to expectSpecPossible DetailsRelease DateLikely late 2024 (base model 14-inch) or early 2025 (higher-end models)ChipM4, M4 Pro, and M4 Max variants (possibly)Screen Sizes14-inch and 16-inch (same as current M3 MacBook Pro)Other SpecsNo information on other specs like battery life, storage, or RAM upgrades yet

iPhone 15 Pro Max – Get the latest iPhone every year !
iPhone 15 Pro Max Review : Story
A few weeks ago, I expressed my indifference towards the iPhone 15 series, stating my intention to stick with my iPhone 14 Pro for another year. However, after the official unveiling of the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro, I have had a change of heart. I have decided to let go of my current iDevice in favor of the iPhone 15 Pro Max. Allow me to explain my reasons.
First and foremost, the optical and digital zoom capabilities on the iPhone 14 Pro are subpar. As an individual constantly on the move, exploring new locations and capturing photos, I find this limitation to be quite frustrating. Every time my friends with Pixel and Galaxy phones flaunt their superior zoom capabilities, I feel like I am missing out on a proper camera system. Considering that the iPhone 14 Pro previously boasted the most advanced mobile camera system from Apple, I find its zoom and low-light performance to be lacking.
Now that the iPhone 15 Pro Max has been officially announced, we no longer have to rely on rumors and leaks. My colleague Ben has had the opportunity to test the device, and its camera performance appears to be much more promising than its predecessor. With this newfound clarity, I am more tempted than ever to upgrade to a superior iPhone camera.
In terms of design, the iPhone 15 Pro Max offers a titanium frame with rounded edges. I recently started using my iPhone 14 Pro without a case, as I have never dropped a smartphone in my life. While I find the case-less feel to be more comfortable, the stainless steel frame quickly becomes a magnet for fingerprints, diminishing the phone’s premium appearance. The titanium frame of the iPhone 15 Pro Max, on the other hand, is more resistant to fingerprints. Although smudges may still be visible on the highest-end 2023 iPhones, they are less conspicuous than those on stainless steel. Additionally, the rounded frame enhances the comfort of holding the device.
Another notable design change is the introduction of the all-new Action button, which replaces the classic mute switch. Personally, I rarely toggle the switch as I usually leave my iPhone muted or unmuted for extended periods of time. Consequently, I believe it would be more practical to repurpose the Action button as a camera launcher for quickly capturing time-sensitive shots while on the move.
The adoption of the USB-C port is another noteworthy feature of the iPhone 15 Pro Max. As I have mentioned in previous articles, I rely exclusively on MagSafe charging and wireless data transfer methods. However, when traveling with a backpack, I still carry a Lightning charger due to the lack of portability of my MagSafe charging stand. Moreover, there are instances when I am compelled to resort to wired charging when I am in a hurry to leave the house and need to quickly charge my dwindling battery. The transition to USB-C eliminates the need for a dedicated cable, as I already utilize a USB-C charger for my iPad and Nintendo Switch.
The iPhone 15 Pro Max intrigues me with its larger display, surpassing 6.1 inches. As someone who has always favored smaller to medium-sized smartphones, this represents a departure from my norm. However, with advancements in technology and the growing popularity of video content on online platforms, I am inclined to explore the benefits of a larger display for long-term use. Additionally, the device offers an extended battery life, which is undoubtedly a welcome advantage. Like many others, I have felt compelled by Apple to opt for the larger Pro variant due to its exclusive tetraprism lens. Although I am not particularly fond of this Pro division, I am willing to adapt and become accustomed to the wider and heavier model.
Considering the resale value of my iPhone 14 Pro, which is still in excellent condition, upgrading to the iPhone 15 Pro Max appears to be a reasonably affordable option. Apple products are known for their lasting value when compared to those of other brands, which makes it easier for me to justify the purchase. By paying a modest fee, I would have access to the latest and best iPhone model available.
Despite my decision to upgrade to the iPhone 15 Pro Max, I am still eagerly anticipating the iPhone 16 series. Rumor has it that the tetra prism lens will be introduced to the smaller Pro variant next year. If I find the size of the iPhone 15 Pro Max challenging to handle, I may opt for the 6.1-inch model next year. It is also worth noting that Apple may replace physical buttons with solid-state ones in their upcoming release. Undoubtedly, the Cupertino firm has more exciting changes planned, some of which may leak in the months to come.
