Kavan Choksi: Invest in Stocks for a Solid Financial Foundation
Kavan Choksi on Main Considerations Before Buying Stocks
Investing can be a key to financial growth, but the path can be daunting, with countless options and uncertainties. Kavan Choksi shares a guide with some timeless principles that many investors consider when seeking long-term stability.
Blue-chip stocks
Think of blue-chip stocks as the giants of the stock market. These are shares in well-established companies with a track record of stability and success. Kavan Choksi shares that brands like Apple, Microsoft, and Coca-Cola have weathered market storms and are considered by many as safe bets for long-term investors.
Dividend-paying stocks
Imagine your investments as a tree that bears fruit regularly. Dividend-paying stocks are like trees that provide a steady income through dividends. Companies that consistently pay dividends can attract investors seeking a reliable income stream.
Index funds and ETFs
Not sure where to start? Index funds or exchange-traded funds (ETFs) can be your financial tour guide. According to Kavan Choksi, these funds allow you to invest in various stocks, providing instant diversification and lowering the risk associated with individual stocks.
Stable growth stocks
Picture your investments as seeds that grow into sturdy trees over time. Look for companies exhibiting steady and consistent growth. Sectors like technology, healthcare, or consumer goods often host companies with long-term growth potential.
Defensive stocks
Think of defensive stocks as your financial shelter during storms. Kavan Choksi explains that these are shares of companies that tend to be less affected by economic downturns. Utilities, healthcare, and consumer staples are examples of industries where demand remains relatively stable, even in tough times.
Investing is a journey, not a sprint. While specific stock recommendations may change, the principles of seeking stability and long-term growth remain constant. Blue-chip stocks, dividend-paying investments, index funds, stable growth opportunities, and defensive stocks offer diverse avenues for building a resilient portfolio. Before you embark on your investment journey, Kavan Choksi advises considering your financial goals, risk tolerance, and time horizon. It's always wise to research or consult a financial advisor for personalized guidance. Building wealth takes time and patience, so focus on creating a foundation that stands the test of time.
Leveraging his knowledge in economics and finance, Kavan Choksi has cultivated a deep enthusiasm for the world of investing. He finds joy in assisting others in making the most of their financial resources. Follow this blog for updates.

I pride myself on being an ethical investor. I invest in stocks of companies that demonstrate the values I hold myself. I sometimes choose ESG stocks, which are stocks of companies that rank high on environmental, social, and governmental factors. However, I also make investment decisions independent of ESG rankings based on my ethics.I particularly value companies that provide opportunities for advancement to all their people and help equalize access to the world’s resources. Protecting the environment also is significant for me. I also avoid “sin” stocks such as those for companies involved in gambling, adult entertainment, tobacco, or weapons.

US stock market open time in India
The duration of operating hours and the hours of opening and closing are similar in different markets worldwide. However, a global investor in India must be aware of global markets’ opening and closing times.
Most world markets’ opening and closing times vary across geographies, but almost a dozen stock exchanges clash during a typical 24-hour period.
Traders need to know the timings of international markets if they are going to trade there. We will see when the American stock market opens and closes, as we would in India. American Markets’ Opening and Closing Times in India
The American continent is home to several stock exchanges. Two of the largest stock exchanges in the world are located in the United States. The New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) and Nasdaq are the two stock exchanges.
The NYSE was established in 1792 and is the oldest and largest exchange in the world. As the second largest exchange, Nasdaq has been around for only a few years since 1971.
The NYSE is an exchange for well-established companies and more stable stocks, while the Nasdaq is an exchange for high-tech stocks that are more growth-oriented and potentially more volatile. (You can invest in US stock markets via Stockal, you can also keep track of the American stock market from an Indian investor’s perspective)
One more from this region can be found in Canada, such as the Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX). In Mexico, there is the Mexican Stock Exchange known as BMV, which was founded in 1933. In South America, B3 Bolsa (Brazil Stock Exchange), formerly known as BM&FBOVESPA, was founded in 1890. It is among the top 20 stock exchanges in the world.
We will look at what are the American stock market opening times in India (as per IST) for different stock exchanges. U.S. major exchanges’ timing and trading hours
Before we look into the American market opening time in India, a trader in India needs to understand the difference between EST (Eastern Standard Time Zone) and EDT (Eastern Daylight Time). Let’s have an overview of the time zones before looking into each major exchange’s specific opening and closing times. An Overview of the EST and EDT Time Zones The NYSE and NASDAQ, two of the largest stock markets in the United States, determine their trading hours in the Eastern Time Zone (ET). In this particular time zone, two variables are commonly used:
Eastern Standard Time (EST) is typically observed in the United States during the winter and autumn. GMT (Greenwich Mean Time) is 5 hours ahead of EST, and IST is 10.5 hours ahead of EST. There are numerous options for early trading, but the NASDAQ and NYSE only open for business on weekdays at 9:30 a.m., and trading is not permitted on weekends.
Eastern Daylight Time is observed during the summer and early spring. Due to being 4 hours behind GMT (Greenwich Mean Time), or UTC–4, EDT is 9.5 hours behind IST.

The "don't spend all your time criticising your political allies" challenge is at its hardest for me when it comes to the idea that capitalism is about "stealing" surplus value from the workers and that communism means finally getting paid "fairly". For the love of everything good in this world please just stop dressing up your social-democracy as communism
