Kawi is a perfect Cartoon Character filmed in BL
We were talking about comedy acting of gmm actors in our discord, and I understandably went on a rant about Krist's comedic performance in Be My Favorite (because his dramatic acting is good but he chose such a unique delicious comedy to give to Kawi, and I've been obsessed with it since the very first episode so let me bring it here too xD)
I was so surprised and intrigued when I saw Kawi in BMF, because in the beginning of the series Kawi looks funny. Unhinged. Unserious. AND IT DOES NOT LOOK CRINGE! (fight me)
For me it's something that's so easy to fuck up, and Thai comedies just love being silly-cringe on purpose (I'm sorry, I have to admit, I get second hand embarrassment often when watching unserious scenes in BLs). But Kawi. He's just. So excitingly funny for the viewers. Krist created his behavior with such a careful nuance, he gave us the first impression of Kawi so nicely, that a non-social immature main character who easily could get 'EW noo' reaction from viewers, is just a very adorable weird fool you can't help but keep watching to see in what kind of trash situations he'll end up.
I think here's a huge reason why: Kawi looks and feels like a cartoon character. I don't even know how Krist did it, I worked as 2d/3d animator and artist for some time in the past and I deliberately tried to make myself act like a cartoon character to film references for animation, so let me tell you – it's HARD xD
Disclaimer: i'm not big professional, just a freelancer so my terms might not be official, i'm just describing what i've learnt from professionals, these are basic things
I think Krist said it himself somewhere in bts that it was his deliberate choice and hard work but Kawi is absolutely animated in a very cartoonish way, but he also calms down and matures throughout the whole series, his movements become more gentle, fluid and less loud. It's such a difficult way to smoothly change the character and it's a hard work for the actor, if you consider that episodes and scenes aren't usually filmed chronologically.
The first episode of BMF is like the epitome of Kawi As Cartoon Character (remember Kawi stealing Pisaeng's clothes scene, the dancing, fighting the gangster, everything) and it works really great to establish that comedic introduction and fool us all into thinking this is just a silly comedic BL show and not a very complicated, profound and mature series as it turned out to be :D
I dissect for myself why this happens, what Krist makes:
Loud hyperactive movements (wide animated gestures, compared to all other characters behaving like adults in real world; think of Stage Persona and theatrics)
Action lines and curves (compare Pisaeng and Kawi on screenshots, think how Pisaeng would hold his hand out and look how Kawi is posing. Krist said they rehearsed poses in that scene a lot, and I really believe it. He stretches out arms a bit too far away, he bends more than usual person, he cranes his neck, he makes just perfect action lines throughout his whole body. When you want to make a cartoon character out of someone's photo, you exaggerate and smooth out posture so the motion would be felt, and Krist just does it in real life)
Fast movements ending up in an abrupt VERY ART-LIKE POSE, and quick change of sharp poses (it's a base rule for good artists to make characters have a clear pose, so you would be able to guess what's going on from only the silhouette). It's probably not a natural way to stand in front of the camera, but Krist often turns his body just enough to have very recognizable silhouettes (enhanced by directing from P'Waa probably)
He exaggerates emotions like a comic character as well; wide eyes, mouth, furrowed eyebrows or extreme pout; even his voice is loud, he shouts and yells louder than anyone else in the series. Of course, only when he's comfortable (with Pisaeng, with Magic Uncle, sometimes with Max). When Kawi isn't comfortable, Krist makes him small, roll into himself, speak quieter and softer, while still having cute gestures like fidgeting.
Cartoonish character compliments Kawi's childish behavior so well, it adds cuteness and stops viewers from rolling their eyes
KAWI LITERALLY IS ACCOMPANIED BY CARTOON SOUND EFFECTS IN THE SERIES, I mean - Pisaeng sometimes gets his sound effect of something breaking, u know like huh??, but if you listen, so many actions and gestures of Kawi are followed by various cartoon sounds. All the time. Even when he gets more mature and reaches zen, they are still present, just not as often.
And that dance? Might not be truly something cartoons would have, but it's so unhinged and quick and childishly weird, Kawi is almost literally operating at 24fps there, the flashing lighting helps a lot as well xD
(overall, think about famous tiktok videos of a girl acting like a disney character irl but if i'm not wrong, there's also a technique of slowing and speeding up the video/audio, and Krist simply acts like that in front of the camera. fascinating)
Krist's work on Kawi's comedic behavior is just chef's kiss, even if you didn't know the plot, just by seeing Kawi in random scenes, you'd know it's a whole character arc just reflected through the body. Which is, I guess, what acting is about xD But it is SO RARE to see for me in BLs and Thai's lakorns, and maybe I just don't watch a lot of comedy series but I'm extremely impressed with how great that cartoonish Kawi looks, from an artist point of view.
I think the other character from BLs close to this feeling would be Sky from Love in the Air. If you know others, please let me know!
#be my favorite#bmf#be my favourite#krist perawat#bmf meta#yeah now i want to rewatch bmf and finish writing everything i wanted before i got hit by a truck of fandom#kawi#i just really love how kawi acts when he's supposed to be young dumb and immature#idk if i can make you guys see idk if i have eyes trained on drawing fanarts and animating things but like IT'S THERE AND IT'S DIFFERENT#AND IT'S DELICIOUS#acting#thai bl#thai drama#thai actor#thai series#bl drama#krist#did anyone even need this post?#i don't care i'm obsessed with something and i'm ranting#krist is often praised by his acting by directors and fellow actors both in drama and comedy#but i'm in love with the way he incorporated cartoon behavior in his character IT IS NOT EASY GUYS#*i stand corrected i meant more sky than rain from lita who has similar traits in acting xD

Main Story Chapter 18 BTS Episode 2: Flawless Arrangement (完美置办) | Light and Night 光與夜之戀
Episode 1
♡———♡
The summer heat was receding, and the weather turned cool. A morning breeze ruffled Charlie's meticulously styled hair, bringing a refreshing coolness. He adjusted his collar, glanced at the time, and strode towards the residential complex in front of him.
A few days prior, upon learning that his fiancée was overwhelmed and struggling to find a suitable new home, he had volunteered to take on this important task.
“Fiancée, let me find an apartment for you.”
“It’s not troubling Uncle Ji; your fiancé will personally select it. After all, I’ve rented a place myself recently and gained some valuable insights."
“Rest assured, no one in the world understands apartment hunting better than I do now. I’ll definitely find you the perfect place,” Charlie confidently declared.
He then spent the night searching through a dozen promising listings and arranged a grand apartment-viewing plan with a real estate agent for early that morning.
Charlie entered the first target complex, his long trench coat billowing a gust of wind, causing the fallen leaves to rustle crisply.
The agent, dressed in a white shirt and black suit pants, ran over from a distance, panting as he stopped in front of Charlie. A few unruly strands of hair stuck out to the side, but his eyes sparkled as he looked at Charlie.
“Sir, you’re here so early! Young people these days seem to love sleeping in, it’s rare to see someone as diligent as you, coming to look at apartments so early.”
Charlie listened, saying nothing, simply nodding slightly.
The agent continued, “Who are you looking for the apartment for? Yourself? Parents? Friends? Or… a girlfriend?”
Charlie chuckled, “No, none of those. Or rather, not exactly correct.”
He paused, “I’m looking for my fiancée.” He emphasized the word “fiancée,” his tone filled with happiness.
The agent smiled, pleasantly surprised. “Hahahaha, I see! You must love your fiancée very much! It’s clear from your eyes.”
“With your exceptional presence, I’m sure you and your fiancée are a perfect match, a match made in heaven!”
As the agent complimented him, Charlie smiled. “Indeed, you make a valid point.”
-
The two continued chatting as they walked toward the target apartment.
Upon entering, the agent began his enthusiastic introduction. “This apartment faces north and south, with a sensible layout. The owner recently finished renovations and originally planned to live here themselves. As you can see, the furniture is all brand new and high-quality…”
As he listened, Charlie walked around the apartment, carefully inspecting every corner, his brow gradually furrowing.
He entered the bathroom, finding the shower area too small and lacking a dry-wet separation, making it easy to spill water and difficult to clean. The toilet paper was easily soaked, and there was no place for her change of clothes, bath towels, or shower caps.
He then entered the bedroom, finding that although the bed was spacious, the hallway was very narrow. He shook his head, knowing his fiancée wouldn’t be comfortable resting in such a cramped space.
“Let’s go to the next one,” he said to the agent, one leg already out the door.
On the way, he said to the agent seriously, “To improve efficiency, let me reiterate my apartment-finding criteria.”
Seeing his serious demeanor, the agent put away his playful attitude and listened attentively.
“Firstly, the location must be within a 20-minute walk from Wanzhen.”
“Secondly, the complex must have reliable security and property management. There must be large supermarkets, fruit shops, hair salons, and gyms nearby. There must be no construction or renovation near the apartment.”
“The rooms must be free of odors, have sunlight, and the bed and wardrobe must be spacious. The bathroom must have a dry-wet separation…”
Charlie meticulously listed his requirements for the apartment. He imagined himself as his fiancée, picturing every step of her day from waking up, going to work, returning home, and going to sleep, gradually refining his standards for the apartment.
-
Charlie was determined to find the safest, most comfortable, and suitable place for his fiancée to live.
The agent listened, nodding repeatedly, almost reaching for a notebook to take notes.
Finally, he smiled and sighed, “Sir, you’ve listed so many requirements, considering every detail. Your fiancée must be very happy to have you.”
“Don’t worry, I’ll match you with a few more apartments that meet your requirements, I’ll definitely satisfy you!”
Charlie nodded reassuringly. “Thank you.”
For the next few days, the agent led Charlie to look at apartments. They left at dawn and didn’t finish until the moon was high.
Charlie always found hidden problems in each apartment, rejecting them with a single vote of disapproval.
In his view, the apartment was a place for his fiancée to rest her body and mind and enjoy her freedom after a busy day, so it had to be selected with the highest standards, preferring quality over quantity.
Therefore, no matter how much time and effort it took, he was willing to invest.
The agent, who had initially been chatty and eager to please, became increasingly tired, far from matching Charlie’s unwavering spirit and enthusiasm.
Finally, on the third evening, Charlie settled on a very suitable apartment.
The owner had to rent it out temporarily due to an emergency, and Charlie was fortunate enough to successfully rent the apartment that met his “perfect” definition.
He walked slowly around the apartment, inspecting every detail again and again, imagining his fiancée living there.
As her image floated into his mind, he smiled, feeling a surge of warmth, and the previous fatigue instantly disappeared.
-
Charlie sat on the sofa, watching the projector and the wall-sized screen, thinking that his fiancée could have her own home theater, wondering if she would wrap herself in a blanket to watch horror movies alone.
“I’ll have to get her some back cushions to protect her spine,” he thought to himself.
He entered the study, turning on the warm yellow eye-protection lamp. Two bookcases were enough to hold her collection.
She could make herself a cup of coffee or cocoa and enjoy some leisurely reading after work, or quickly capture any flashes of inspiration.
He opened the bedroom door, where a window opened up to the distant skyline, offering an excellent view. Due to the high floor and the room’s orientation away from the city center, there were no skyscrapers to block the view.
It was evening, and a full moon was perfectly framed in the upper left corner of the window, the night sky filling the remaining space; below, the city lights twinkled. In the distance, leisurely clouds floated in the moonlight, and the hazy suburban mountains loomed.
The window was like a painting, capturing both nature and urban life. Although it wasn’t as wide as a floor-to-ceiling window, it was tall enough to allow a panoramic view of half the city.
Charlie drew the sheer curtains, and the moonlight gently bathed the bed.
He suddenly remembered her sweet and peaceful sleeping face, feeling a warmth in his heart and a softness in his eyes.
He walked out, taking one last look around.
“Yes, everything is perfect, she’ll definitely like it. She’ll probably think in her heart, ‘My fiancé has such good taste and knows how to live!’” He thought, feeling a little proud.
“Remember to bring her a bedside lamp, and a toilet seat cushion, plant-based aromatherapy, a humidifier… Should I also order a pair of Charlie exclusive couple refrigerator magnets?” He pondered seriously, talking to himself.
But even that wasn’t enough.
He wanted to give his fiancée the warmest, most comfortable, and safest harbor. He formed another plan in his mind.
-
The next day after dinner, Charlie arrived at the new apartment with a box of scented sachets. He took a small bottle of herbal essential oil from the bottom of the box and carefully dripped it, drop by drop, onto each sachet.
He smelled the sachets, and a faint, elegant herbal fragrance lingered in the air, refreshing his mind and body.
He had specifically chosen essential oils with calming properties, hoping to help his fiancée sleep well through the night.
He picked out a dozen sachets and placed them in various corners of the room. Soon, the small apartment was filled with the subtle scent of herbs, making it feel like being deep in a forest.
Charlie nodded in satisfaction, picked up the remaining sachets, walked out the door, and gently knocked on a neighbor's door.
The door opened, and an elderly woman cautiously peered out, her expression questioning.
Charlie smiled and politely said, "Hello, I'm about to become your neighbor, I wanted to introduce myself."
Then Charlie handed her the scented sachets, "These sachets are for you, they can help you sleep."
Seeing Charlie's friendly expression, the old woman relaxed, opened the door, and accepted the gift.
"Oh, thank you!" She smelled the sachets and smiled, "They smell very nice, thank you, young man!"
Charlie added, "Actually, my fiancée will be living here, she's been quite busy lately, and will move in a few days."
The old woman nodded, understanding. Charlie chatted with her for a while, and as he was about to leave, the old woman said, "Young man, if you have any problems in the future, just come to me, and I'll do my best to help."
He visited the other nearby neighbors in the same manner, and all gave positive responses.
With the neighbors looking out for her, he felt her safety would be more assured. He finally felt at ease.
"Finally, there's just one more thing left," he said with a mysterious smile, talking to himself, "Charlie, you're still so romantic."
He called the florist and ordered a large bouquet of lilies, to be delivered on her move-in day.
Let the fragrance of lilies, along with the scent of the sachets, welcome his fiancée’s arrival.
Charlie slowly walked out of the residential building, a smile still lingering on his face.

petals 004#: hello, uncles!

#004 - When Baby Min meets the uncles
➽ Character/Genre/words: Min Yoongi x occasional OC | Parenthood!au, Fluff | 1,316 words
➽ a/n: based on my Baby Min headcanons

Yoongi pinches the bridge of his nose the moment another loud cheer blows out from the living room. “Those boys―” he mutters under his breath before opening his eyes to stare at the servings that he is currently preparing. As the hot water is finally starting to boil, he immediately pours them into the teapot to make sure that he can go back to his guests as fast as he could.
“Need some help with that?” he hears his wife calling from behind him.
“No, It’s fine. I’ll be there in a sec―” he starts answering while turning around to see his wife walking into the kitchen. Alone. “Where’s the baby?” he gasps with his eyes widening.
“Oh? Well, Taehyung said he wanted to hold―”
Without waiting for her to finish her sentence, Yoongi rushes towards the living room with worries, ready to snatch his baby away from the hands of the reckless boys that are now starting to laugh even louder. A part of him is suddenly starting to regret that he had agreed to let his friends come and visit the baby, since the last time they have ever seen the child was back when both them and the Mother were still in hospital care. Half expecting to see his child crying for the loud noises or from being scared of their strange uncles, Yoongi halts at the corner of the living room as he sees his baby smiling wide and laughing cheerfully in the arms of uncle Taehyung.
The scene in front of him leaves him not only sighing in relieved but also smiling wide, as he finds Taehyung holding the child in his arms as gentle and as secure as possible―much to his own surprise―while the other five boys sitting in circles around them, some sitting on the floor with crossed legs and the others spreading on the sofas, all with their eyes locked on the happy baby. His pride starts building up in his chest as he witnesses his friends and brothers gushing over his little child.
“Are you ready for an attack?” Taehyung says with his eyes on the baby, carefully lifting them in his arms before swaying them to his side as if he is assisting the little child to fly over to uncle Jimin. “Dumpling magic kick!” he cheers, followed by both his and the child’s laughter as Jimin pretended to fall over from the sofa the minute the baby’s covered leg bumps onto his cheek.
“Aw, you got me!” he giggled delightfully, crossing his arms over his chest with a wide grin while kneeling on the floor.
“Super Dumpling one, Jimin zero!” Namjoon suddenly cheers, allowing a laugh to come out of Yoongi, along with everyone else’s.
“Yah, stop it before anyone actually gets hurt,” he protests while walking over to his guests―or more like his baby’s special guests―but the way his lips are now curling into a prideful grin gives him away from the overprotective father exterior he’s trying to show.
“Don’t worry, Yoongi. Little dumpling is winning!” someone from the group answered with a soft whine, chuckling at his friend before glancing over to look at the baby once more.
Figuring that he can trust Taehyung to keep the baby safe from harm and from falling flat to the floor, Yoongi finally gives in and lets them keep playing with the child. Thankfully, this time they decide that it’s time to tone down the cheerings and their loud voices they keep making.
“Coffee or tea, gentlemen?” Yoongi’s wife enters the living room in the middle of the ruckus, carrying a tray filled with drinks and some snacks for the guests, being helped by Jin who jumps off from his seat right when he sees her coming, forcing to let her hand over the tray to him. With the drinks and sweets luring the boys’ interests, Taehyung finally hands the baby back into Mommy’s arms as he races to reach for the cake.
“Sorry for being so loud, babe,” Yoongi whispers to his wife as they sit side by side on the sofa, the baby being carried in her arms while the uncles are busy passing around the cups of hot drinks.
“Oh, that’s alright,” his wife chuckles, looking down at their little dumpling who is now kicking around as if wanting to join their uncles in rushing to grab the sweets. “I think everyone is having a lot of fun. Don’t you think so, love?” she playfully speaks to her child, earning a soft cooing from them as a response.
Yoongi lets out a soft chuckle, looking away from his little family to his other family, his brothers, who are just as delighted as he is. Until his eyes land on Jungkook who is sitting by himself across to him with wide eyes locked on the baby and his hands planted on his knees nervously. “I think someone wants to get close to little dumpling too, babe,” he whispers to his wife, tilting his head towards Jungkook so she would see the boy who is somewhat lost in his own world.
She smiles. “Jungkook, do you want to hold the baby for a while?”
Jungkook eyes widen at the offer, and he quickly turns to Yoongi, asking him with an unsure look in his eyes. “Really? Can I?”
“Sure,” Yoongi nods, and the young man practically leaps from his seat to take the spot next to the baby’s Mom, carefully retrieving the baby into his arms.
“Oh, wow―” he chuckles. His eyes are suddenly wide and teary with awe. “So small,” he muses as he looks up to Yoongi and his wife with an amused smile.
The minute the other uncles catch the sight of Jungkook carrying the baby, they start taunting him for it― “Awe, our baby is holding another baby,” they say, before everyone starts asking for their turns to hold the baby, which Yoongi gives permission to since he is so proud of seeing his child getting so much love―except for Namjoon, obviously, the man practically tries to stay away as far as possible from Yoongi’s kid.
Not long before the uncles are ready to go home, they start to take turns and ask for kisses from their new little idol. The little dumpling is now on Jimin’s lap, giggling and showing their tiny gummy smile each time each one of their uncles leans down to show their cheek towards the miracle child to have some kisses, being helped by uncle Jimin who leads the little angel to bump their little pout on each cheek.
Watching everything with a proud smile, after a while Yoongi could see his child starting to yawn for playing too long. He pouts from his seat across the room and calls out to uncle Taehyung when the latter is kneeling in front of Jimin and the baby to ask for extra kisses “Stop it, I might not get any later,” he protests with a scowl, because he’s suddenly worried that his baby is going to be too tired to kiss or play with their Dad after playing and kissing their uncles the whole day.
“Oh, stop being so possessive over the little dumpling, Yoongi. You can have kisses from your kid anytime you want, don’t you?” Jin laughs at him while leaning back in his seat, already showing that he and the others have had their energy drained by the happy child.
“Yeah, you’re right,” Yoongi muses while keeping his eyes on his brothers and smiling wide as he witnesses on how much they have fallen in love with his little angel. “I do have a lot of chances to share everything with my child,” he mutters. His heart is swelling the moment he feels how his tongue rolls so perfectly as he says the words―
“My child.”

chapter: seven ( 12.3k ) rating: mature (death, past abuse, eventual smut) genre: mystery | romance | hurt/comfort tags: bts x reader | ot7 x reader | hybrid | poly summary: when an estranged uncle leaves you his massive fortune you wonder if the universe is playing a joke on you. when that fortune comes with seven hybrids, you know for sure that it is. << first < previous | next > last >>
The sound of your phone ringing rips you from sleep. You sit bolt upright, confusion and panic dousing you like twin buckets of ice water. You’d been having a nightmare about something, but you can’t remember what. The tattered ends of it are already slipping away, just out of reach. You don’t chase after them.
You fumble for your phone in the dark, fingers groping uselessly at your blankets until they close around it. The bright white light from your screen blinds you as you flip it over and you blink blearily, rubbing at your eyes with one hand and trying to answer with the other.
“Hello?” you rasp, mashing the speaker button. “Who is this?”
“Apologies for disturbing your sleep, ma’am.” A woman’s voice crackles over the other end of the line. You can hear exhaustion dripping off every word. “This is Officer Kwon from the Namhyeon-dong precinct of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Force.”
You squint into the dark expanse of your bedroom, a little frown on your face as you struggle to process what she’s saying. “....okay?”
“I’m calling because we’ve got two of your hybrids in custody.”
You blink slowly. “Hmmmm, I don’t think so...” you mumble through a yawn. “They’re all in bed.”
“We ran their numbers through the registry and you were pinged as the owner of both.” You hear papers shuffling and her voice get distant as she transfers the receiver to her shoulder to free up a hand. “We’ve got a rabbit calling himself Jeongguk and a Seokjin who the rabbit says is a deer-” She sighs. “Listen, I’m at the end of my rope here. They won’t tell me where they came from and the phone number of the business they were registered to before you is out of service. They’re hurt pretty bad, worse than what we can take care of here at the station. We can’t get them any sort of medical care without their guardian’s permission, so-”
Your eyes glaze over as you groggily connect the dots.
A deer and a rabbit.
Not canine, not feline.
Other.
Other.
You shove the covers down your legs and kick them over the side of the bed. “I’m on the way,” you tell her, already adding up the distance between your building and Namhyeon-dong. It’d take an hour to get all the bus transfers you needed- your eyes narrow as you squint at the time on your phone. 3:27 AM. You’d have to get a cab. Your stomach twists at the thought of the fare, but you shove the feeling down. This was no time to be thrifty. “Do whatever you need to.”
The officer exhales in relief. You can practically hear the tension leave her shoulders. “There’s a little hybrid clinic in the neighborhood. I’ll see if I can get the vet up and convince them to go.”
“Thank you,” you breathe. She gives you the address and you type it into your notes app, reading it back to her twice to make sure you got it right. She hangs up with a promise to see you soon and your phone locks, leaving you alone in the blue-black gloom of an early morning.
This wasn’t great. This wasn’t great any way you sliced it. You’d thought you’d have an extra two weeks to get the canines settled and all five hybrids to at least not want to kill each other. That’d been the plan, at least, when you’d sequestered yourself in your bedroom without telling Jimin and Taehyung goodnight or doing any introductions. Now the others were coming and you were on borrowed time. You drag your hands down over your face. “What are we gonna do?” Nothing but silence answers you.
When you were a kid and you’d had anything big before you- a massive school project you’d waited til the last moment to start, having to walk yourself to the market because your mom was too sick to go, a hard conversation with a friend- your mom had always told you to break it down into smaller pieces. Make the big thing small; do what you can for now. So, that’s what you do.
You shove your phone into the pocket of your sweatpants, tug your backpack out from under your bed and grab a pair of socks. You slide them on as quickly as you can and head for the door. You tug it open and try to rush through, already on the way to your next small thing- but you stumble over a shoulder and go down.
You let out a yelp of surprise that quickly morphs into one of pain as your forehead knocks against the other person’s. Your hands slam down on either side of their head and their own fly up to your waist to steady you. You blink down at them, willing your eyes to adjust to the dark.
Hoseok is beneath you. He’s squinting up at you, his hair in disarray and his cheeks puffy with sleep. “Ow,” he croaks.
You wince. “I’m sorry,” you whisper, rubbing the spot on his forehead your own knocked against on autopilot. He seems to wake up a little at that, eyebrows inching up his forehead. You snatch your hand back. “Ah, sorry. I was worried I hurt you-”
“I’m okay,” he rasps, his voice still thick with sleep. “You didn’t hurt me.”
“Okay.” You disentangle yourself from him and rise back to your feet. He struggles to get up too, mirroring you. The blankets pooled around his hips fall to his feet. You frown at the picture he makes, his shoulders slumped from exhaustion and indents on his cheek from the hardwood. “Did you...did you sleep out here?”
His ears fall and he lowers his head a bit between his shoulders. “Yeah,” he admits, rubbing the back of his neck. “I did…”
You wrote off a lot of the behavior the boys exhibited that you didn’t understand as just a part of them being hybrids. When Taehyung affectionately headbutted you, or Jimin always hopped up on counters or Yoongi lapped from glasses instead of sipping, you just accepted it and stashed it away to google later- but this was a little more concerning. Did he not feel safe in his room? You’d tried to put him and Namjoon as far away from the felines as you could, but you also knew the cats weren’t thrilled about sharing their space. You hoped they hadn’t made him feel too unwelcome after you’d collapsed into bed.
“Is everything okay?” His ears twitch as the smell of your worry fills his nose. He leans forward and for a moment you think he’s gonna close the distance between you- but he pulls back.
“No,” he answers. You feel your heart sink. “I just...your room is closest to the front door.” You blink at him slowly, not following. You don’t know how his sight is in the dark, but he must see the confusion furrowing your brow, because he continues. “Your room is the only one on the first floor and it’s close to the living room and front door. We all sleep upstairs. If someone broke in, they’d get you first.” He tosses a finger down at the blankets. “I was sleeping here so that wouldn’t happen.”
“Nobody’s gonna get me, Hoseok,” You soothe, trying to assuage his fears. “I’m nobody-”
“You don’t know that,” he argues back. “And you’re not ‘nobody’ to me. I waited my whole life for you. I’ve gotta keep you safe.”
You don’t know what to make of that. You’d known Hoseok had been trained specifically to protect the person he’d eventually be sent to, but you hadn’t expected him to be so adamant about it. After all Namjoon grew up in the same place- No. Your expression sours as the thought stops you. No he didn’t. The wolfdog hybrid had been locked away for most of his life and interaction with others had come only in the form of meal delivery. He wouldn’t have had the director’s lessons drilled into his head everyday in the same way Hope had.
Still, no one has expressed this level of care for you since your mom died. You’re not entirely sure you deserve it.
“I was gonna wake up before you did and go back to my room,” he mumbles, kicking gently at the blanket and not meeting your eyes. “I promise, I was. I didn’t expect you to be up this early.” He fiddles with the hem of his shirt, his ears drooping more and more the longer you look at him. “I didn’t mean to make you uncomfortable…”
“You didn’t make me uncomfortable, Hoseok,” You tell him and his ears perk up a little. It was true, he hadn’t. His actions were sweet, if a bit misguided but you were more worried about him than anything. “I don’t know what the director told you or what you’ve heard, but I promise there’s no one after me.” He frowns at that, lips twisting into a little pout. He goes to interject, but you speak again before he can. “If you’re worried about anything, just tell me okay? If there’s anything you need to do to make yourself feel more at ease here, just tell me.” You implore him softly.
Hoseok nods slowly and you see his tail give one small wag. You nod back, and turn to go, but his voice stops you. “I think it would help a lot if I could sleep down here.” Your brow furrows at that.
“This is the only bedroom on this floor, though?”
He whines and looks like he’s about to explain- but a soft voice purring in your ear cuts him off. “He could sleep on the couch,” Jimin supplies, his arms entwining around your middle as he rests his chin on your shoulder. “It’s quite comfortable...Y/N-ah, do you mind dogs on the furniture?” His tone is light, free of the haze of sleep and a little teasing. From the way Hoseok’s ears droop and the way his shoulders curve in, you could tell Jimin hadn’t crept down here for a bit of good-natured ribbing. Your scent sours as your expression does, irritation with the leopard hybrid pricking at you. He lets out a little disgruntled murr in protest as he noses at your neck, trying to get you to soften for him. You tilt your head away from him and disentangle yourself from his arms. It’s three in the morning, you have to cross the city to deal with the fallout from God only knows what, and your neck still aches from the bruise Yoongi had left on it. You have too much on your plate to deal with Jimin needling his new housemate.
“Leave him alone, Jimin,” You exhale, side-stepping the leopard hybrid and heading down the corridor for the door. “Hoseok, you can sleep where you want. I’ve gotta go.”
The doberman takes a step forward. “I’ll come with you-” the icy look Jimin shoots him has him slowing but it’s not until the leopard hybrid bares his teeth at him that he stalls entirely. The sound of his whimper has you whirling around, but when you do, you find Jimin looking at you, blasé and Hoseok eyeing him with uncertainty
“I’ll be back as soon as I can, I promise,” you toss back over your shoulder as you slide your feet into a pair of shoes. “Please, just...if you can’t be friendly, just do your own thing ‘til I get back.” You lace up your sneakers as quickly as you can and duck out the door. “Text me if you need anything; I’ll call on the way back.” And you’re gone, leaving the leopard and the doberman in the dark.
You are not at all confident in their ability to maintain a truce while you’re gone. You’re almost certain that if you hadn’t shoved your way between Namjoon and Yoongi last night, they’d have come to blows right there in the lobby last night. You punch the button for the ground floor and slump back against the railing of the elevator, exhaustion settling heavy on you now that you were alone again. You’d known Yoongi, Jimin and Taehyung weren’t thrilled about sharing their space, but you hadn’t expected this kind of fallout from bringing new hybrids home. You don’t know if there’s anything you can do to make things a little easier, but you want to. Sighing, you resign yourself to more research. You pull out your phone and start typing.
why are my hybrids freaking the fuck out
You backspace. Venting at google wasn’t going to help you figure out what the sharp looks Jimin kept throwing Hoseok while he thought your back was turned meant or why Yoongi had been so furious the other hybrids’ scent was on you.
why don’t my hybrids like each other
Just like all your other searches, this one turns up millions of results. You thumb over the links but none of them are helpful. They’re dealing with puppy hybrids bickering and cat hybrids hissing at each other. None of them cover cross-species beef. None of them deal with exotics. You sigh, lock your phone and tilt your head back to stare at the soft yellow lights in the elevator’s ceiling. You were out of your depth. You’d known that from the moment Mr. Seo turned you into an heiress with a wave of his fountain pen. You get the urge to run, that old niggling feeling that settled like a stone in your mind and made your palms itch.
It’s been years since you last felt the need to pull a disappearing act. You don’t think you’ve done it since the one year anniversary of your mom’s death. The foster home you’d been sent to was a shit show. You found out the woman in charge had been pocketing the money you gave her every month for your mother’s columbarium fees and her urn was in danger of being thrown out. You’d shoved everything you owned into your school bag and walked across the city to get her. When the police found you, you were striding down the side of the highway, her urn clutched to your chest, determined to go anywhere but there.
You hadn’t known where you were going then; you still didn’t now. All you’d had was the urge to flee and fire under your feet. All you’d had was a singular focus on the road ahead.
The elevator reaches the ground floor with a soft ding, the automated voice letting you know you’ve reached the lobby. You step out and shuffle across it with your head down, careful to avoid eye contact with the receptionist watching you warily from behind her desk.
It’s a cold night. A blast of frigid air hits your face the second you’re out the door. You curse under your and fold your arms around yourself in a futile effort to keep warm. You should go back upstairs and get the coat Yoongi made you buy. You shift from one foot to the other, weighing your options- and decide against it. If the conversation you’d had with Hoseok was enough to wake Jimin and send him slinking toward you, you running in and out of the penthouse would almost certainly wake Yoongi up. Memories flash in your mind: his hands gripping your hips tight, his rough tongue laving over your neck, that self-satisfied smirk he’d let spread over his mouth. You pinch yourself, trying to stem the heat you can feel crawling out the neck of your sweatshirt. It had upset you, there was no denying that. The warm feeling that’d bubbled up in your stomach at being touched didn’t wash away the fact that him marking you had nothing to do with your friendship and everything to do with warding off the canine hybrids.
Yeah, you decide, quickening your pace down the ice-slicked sidewalk. You’d much rather face the cold than him.
You make quick work of the walk from Haneul Tower to the streets of the club district. It’s only two blocks up and one over, but by the time you get there, you feel like a giant icicle. You’re out of place in a sweatshirt and scuffed up sneakers among the glitz and glamor of the club-goers, but you don’t have time to deal with your imposter syndrome. You duck into the first taxi you find, pass the old man the address Officer Kwon had given you and settle back.
He complains nearly the entire time about how far out of the way you’re making him go. You apologize as much as you’re able and promise him return fair back to Gangnam if he waits for you. He huffs and puffs, but he still takes you. Forty minutes later, you’re standing on the sidewalk outside of Happy Tails Hybrid Clinic, rapping urgently at the glass. After two minutes that feel like twenty, someone finally answers you.
You think she’s in her late twenties but the dark circles under her eyes she keeps rubbing at make her look older. She’s dressed in the typical winter police uniform, minus her jacket. The pale blue sleeves of her dress shirt are rolled up above her elbows and are blotchy with pale red marks she’d tried to scrub out. Blood. You swallow, your throat suddenly dry.
She unlocks the door and pokes her headout. “Y/N L/N?” She asks, eyes narrowed against the glare of the street lamps.
“Yeah,” you answer, giving one short nod. “Yeah, that’s me.”
“Officer Kwon; we spoke on the phone.” She opens the door for you fully, stepping back and ushering you in urgently. “I’ll be honest,” she says once you’re safely inside and the door is locked back tight again. “I wasn’t sure you were gonna show.”
You frown at that. “Why wouldn’t I have shown?”
“Most of the time when hybrids run, it’s an abuse case.” She drops into one of the plastic chairs lining the waiting room. Her head falls back with a thunk against the yellow plaster. If it hurts, she shows no signs of it, just stares up at the fluorescent lights. You settle on the lip of the chair next to her, feeling awkward and anxious. “The rabbit broke into an Olive Young to steal antiseptic and bandages,” she supplies without you having to ask. “He said he did it for the deer. When he showed me he was…” Officer Kwon exhales sharply and tips forward to rest her head in her hands. “I don’t think I’ve ever seen that much blood.”
“I wouldn’t hurt them,” you insist softly. “It wasn’t me.”
“I know,” she answers, voice muffled against her palms. “I pulled your name and ID picture from the national database and the rabbit didn’t recognize you. Even if you didn’t do it, I didn’t think you’d wanna deal with it.”
Your anxiety spikes at her words. What had happened to the hybrids before she found them? Who’d want to hurt them that badly? Your mouth feels dry, but you force it to move. “Do you know who they were running from?”
Officer Kwon shakes her head and drags her hands down her face. She lets her arms fall to her knees as she hunches over in her chair, back bowed with exhaustion. “Whatever the rabbit knows, he’s not sharing,” she exhales. “-And the deer’s in no position to speak up. He’s been unconscious since I found him.” As if sensing you tense, she adds, “He’s on the table now. I think Dr. Cheon put him under sedation.”
You don’t know what to say. You’re not sure if there’s anything you even can. You have a million questions buzzing around in your mind, but so heavy is the weight of them on your tongue that you can’t find the strength to ask a single one. You’re saved by the doctor coming out from the back.
The door right next to the counter that reads STAFF + PATIENTS ONLY swings open and a middle aged woman in cat print scrubs comes out, shoulders hunched in like she’s got the weight of the world on her back. You can’t blame her; she looks every bit as tired as you feel. She stops just short of you and Officer Kwon, peels off a pair of blue medical gloves, dyed sticky red, and tosses them into the garbage can behind the reception desk. “Well,” she huffs, dragging her fingers through the greying wisps of hair that’d escaped from her braid. “It’s done.”
“How is he?” The police officer asks before you can. Dr. Cheon grimaces and leans against the counter.
“If you hadn’t found him in time, it could’ve been much worse.” You think she’s trying to put you at ease, but you don’t want compromising optimism. You want the truth. “An hour or two later and we’d be dealing with a very different situation, medically.”
You swallow and force yourself to speak. “Do you have any idea how this could’ve happened?”
Dr. Cheon turns her attention to you and blinks slowly, like she’d just noticed you were there. “...this is the guardian?” The police officer nods. The doctor takes you in, eyes roving from the mess of your hair twisted into a bun atop your head, to the scuffed rubber toes of your sneakers. She’s judging you, you know, trying to find something that’d mark you as the reason for the pain and suffering of the hybrids she’d helped. She finds none. “It didn’t happen to them,” she sighs. “Someone did this to them on purpose, likely over the course of several hours.” She tugs the office chair out from behind the desk and sinks into it, her limbs going to jelly the second she’s seated.
“Jeongguk won’t tell me what happened, but I know the signs. Puncture wounds around the entirety of Seokjin’s ankle, remnants of both sedatives and epinephrine in both of their blood, what looks like a bullet graze wound on Jeongguk’s side and he’s got a broken arm,” she rattles off symptom after symptom, each of them making the knot in your belly wind tighter and tighter. “The worst of it is Seokjin’s head. Hairline fractures all along the top of his skull and lacerations on his pedicles. They took his antlers from him.”
You feel sick to your stomach. You knew there were people who hurt hybrids, just like there were people that hurt animals and other people. You just hadn’t expected to ever have to deal with the fallout of one such incident. “Will he be okay?”
“He’ll survive, if that’s what you’re asking,” Dr. Cheon allows. “But he’ll need to be monitored closely during these next few weeks. They were hunted. If they decide to come with you instead of going to the shelter with Officer Kwon, you’ll need to be cognisant of the fact that the trauma from that could manifest in unexpected ways.”
Hunted. They’d been hunted.
You knew hunting was illegal in South Korea, you had that little tidbit tucked away in the recesses of your grade school memory along with the list of provinces and their capitals and the names of all the sailor scouts. It’d been outlawed in the fifties with the rash of hybrid centered legislation after a hunter up in Chungcheongbuk-do had shot a black bear hybrid he’d mistaken for a real bear. It was determined that since humans couldn’t distinguish between regular animals and hybrids shifted down into animal form, hunting had to be outlawed to prevent any accidental killings.
“Were they shifted down?” You ask. “Did someone not realize-”
“No.” Dr. Cheon’s answer is swift and final. “They knew. This was a choice.” The disgust in her voice is palpable.
“There are places that...Some centers cater to people that want to hunt.” Officer Kwon cuts in. “They have hybrids as employees and they let people rent airsoft or paintball guns to come hunt them. It’s supposed to be more ethical than actual hunting. No matter how distasteful I might personally find it, if they have a permit, there’s not really much the police can do unless a law has been broken. ”
“And without any information on where they came from, we can’t prove that one has,” Dr. Cheon finishes. “The most I can do as a vet is submit a report to the police about a possible abuse case and hope it makes its way to the hybrid crimes unit.” You hear the words she doesn’t speak, the meaning behind them. There’s nothing more we can do. They’ll get away with it. This is the end of the line.
Dr. Cheon drops her palms against her knees and forces herself to stand “Jeongguk’s injuries should heal just fine outside of the clinic,” She sighs. “But Seokjin-” she clicks her tongue against her teeth and gives a single shake of her head. “Cervine hybrids don’t shed their antlers like real deer do. There’s no telling if his will grow back or what they’ll look like when they do. All we can do is keep the wounds clean and pray.”
You nod numbly. She gestures for you to follow her and you do, making your way around the reception desk and through the staff door with her.
It’s dim in the back. The overhead lights are off and your path ahead is illuminated only by what light spills over from the reception room and an exam room up ahead. There’s only four of them, but the door to this one is slightly ajar. “Wait here for a second,” Dr. Cheon instructs, slipping through the door and leaving you alone in the corridor. You can hear her speaking softly to someone inside and them answering in even quieter tones. You have to strain to pick up the edge of their voice and even then, you can’t understand what they’re saying. “Would you like her to come in here, or would you like her to stay outside?” You hear her ask. The response is too soft for you to catch but a second later the door swings open.
Dr. Cheon steps out and gestures for the shadowy figure behind her to follow. “It’s alright,” she assures them. “No one here is going to hurt you.” Slowly, they shuffle out from the back.
It’s Jeongguk. There’s no denying what he is, not with the black velvet ears you see poking up out of his mop of wavy, dark hair. They’re alert; they prick toward you when your breath hitches. His eyes are dark and wide and the tip of his nose twitches when he looks at you. You muster up a smile you hope is reassuring and this right foot taps once against the linoleum. Yes, he’s a rabbit- but he’s also fucking huge.
What little research you’d managed to do in between apologizing to your taxi driver and keeping an eye on the fare had been straightforward: rabbit hybrids were naturally timid, needed a lot of attention and were small. Most sources you’d checked seemed to concur that they very rarely cleared 5’5. Jeongguk is pushing 6 feet and he’s built like a professional athlete. You suppose that’s what happens when you’ve spent your whole life running for it.
He’s wearing a teeshirt that’s too tight on his chest, the logo of the Seoul police force stretched thin, and a pair of grey sweatpants that are too short for him, both obviously on loan from Officer Kwon. His feet are bare, but there are bandages wrapped around both of them. True to what Dr. Cheon told you, his arms in a cast and wrapped in a sling. There’s scrapes on his knuckles and bruises blooming on the right side of his face. He looks like he’s been through the wringer. Still, he doesn’t slouch or shrink before you.
“Jeongguk, this is the woman we talked about,” Dr. Cheon tells him. He nods, but doesn’t move his gaze from your face once. “You’ll be going home with her-”
“Only if he wants,” You interject and she nods in agreement, quickly adding that caveat in.
“-only if you want.” He nods again and swallows, his bare foot giving another little tap against the floor.
“What about Seokjin?” He asks you.
“If he wants to come too, he’s welcome to, but neither of you have to if you don’t want to.” There’s a little frown on his face as you answer and he finally looks away. You can’t help but think that’s a bad sign, that he thinks he and his friend would be safer in a shelter that they ever could be with you- but then he asks another question.
“Do you have a husband or a boyfriend?” You frown at that. Why was it that every hybrid in the city was suddenly so concerned with your marital status? Hoseok had asked you in the car last night and now Jeongguk seemed worried about it as well. Sensing your confusion, he clarifies. “Do you live with any men?”
You wince. “Oh! Yeah, I live with five.” You see his expression darken as his ears sag. “They’re mostly predator-”
“If they’re hybrids, it’s fine.” He interjects, a little tension leaving his shoulders. “I can live with them.”
You relax too. From what you’d seen, most shelters weren’t nice places. They were overcrowded and underfunded. If the news was any indication, some of the worse ones got treated like grab bags by fighting rings, who’d shell out a couple thousand won for a canine hybrid and turn him into a prize fighter. You didn’t want that for them, not if you could provide an alternative.
But was it one though? He said he could live with them, but could they live with him? You think back to Yoongi and Namjoon snarling at each other last night, about Jimin’s little jabs at Hoseok. Yeah, you’d need to have another house meeting when you got home if this was ever going to work. Jeongguk had just been through hell and back; the last thing he needed was a territorial bobcat trying him.
“You can change your mind any time,” You tell him softly. “If you get there and feel like it’s not a good fit for you and Seokjin, you can go, okay?”
He dips his head. “Okay.”
“I think Seokjin can decide for himself.”
Your eyes rocket just over Jeongguk’s shoulder. There’s a man leaning heavily against the doorframe of the room the rabbit hybrid had come out of. He’s in a blue exam gown, his feet bare except for a plain white cast on his left leg. Every part of his head from his eyebrows up is bandaged, but you see soft tufts of red-brown hair poking out from between the layers. He looks human. You’d almost think he was if it weren’t for the oblong pupils in his hazel eyes and supple ears you see twitching as he observes you.
“What are you doing up?!” The alarm in Dr. Cheon’s voice is palpable. “Those sedatives should’ve kept you out ‘til morning.” She takes a step like she’s going to rush to his side- but stops short when he tenses and tilts his chin to his chest. Just for a second, it looked like he was preparing himself to square off against her- like he was brandishing something that wasn’t really there. His antlers, you think. He was trying to protect himself with his antlers.
Seokjin forces himself upright, his knees wobbling as he tries to stand on his own. He looks off-balance, and it’s not just because of the cast. He looks like he’s trying to figure out how to stand now that a piece of him is missing. His legs are trembling. “What can I say?” He huffs, sounding like he just ran a marathon. “I like to surprise people.” And then his legs buckle underneath him.
He hits the floor with a heavy thud. Jeongguk and Dr. Cheon rush to his side but he waves them off, eyes closed and brow knit in frustration. “I’m fine,” he insists, pinching the bridge of his nose and trying to struggle back to his feet. “I’m fine, I just…I just need a moment-”
“You need bed rest.” Dr. Cheon goes to latch on to his arm to help him stand but Jeongguk catches her wrist, gives a single shake of his head and she drops it back to her side.
Seokjin manages to get himself back standing, but he sways precariously. “If this were a hunt, I’d already be dead.” He swallows and inhales shakily through his nose, doing his best not to gulp down air. “You should have left me, Jeongguk. You know the rules. One falls, but the herd rises-”
“The herd is gone, Seokjin.” The bitterness in the younger hybrid’s voice takes you aback. It’s a black wave, threatening to drown all four of you right there in the corridor. Seokjin stares at him, his jaw slack and pretty brown eyes wide.
“What do you-”
“They’re gone.” The rabbit hybrid’s bruised fingers clench into a fist and he fixes his glare on the tile. “All of them.”
Silence rings in the corridor. Dr. Cheon’s mouth is pressed into a thin line, but she doesn’t press for details and neither do you. She’d been right. They’d been hunted. The thought of it turns your stomach. Seokjin closes his eyes, long lashes fanning out over his cheeks as a muscle tenses in his jaw. He’s thinking. When he opens his eyes again, his gaze is settled on you. Your heart jumps as your nerves get the better of you, and one of his ears flicks back.
“You’re taking us?” He asks. You swallow.
“Only if you want me to.” An unreadable look passes between him and Jeongguk, the younger’s nose twitching.
“Speaking strictly as your doctor,” Dr. Cheon speaks up, interrupting the hybrids’ telepathy. “You need time to rest and recuperate-”
“Is there any special reason I have to rest and recuperate here?” He asks. You can’t help but notice the slight challenge in his voice. The corner of the doctor’s mouth twitches.
“No, I suppose not,” she acquiesces. She doesn’t look particularly pleased about the prospect of letting her patient go when he was still in the danger zone, but if the look of determination in Seokjin’s eyes is any indication, she doesn’t have much choice.
“Then, we’ll go.” The tone of his voice is final, letting everyone present know that he’s done talking about it.
That's the last that’s said to you or anyone else about it. Jeongguk falls in line with his orders easily and so doesDr. Cheon after she manages to get him to accept a pair of crutches she’d foisted upon him and passes off a prescription for pain meds and both of their check up schedules to you.
“It’s important that they don’t miss these dates,” she tells you at the reception counter, tapping the sheath of papers with one clean, blunted nail. “A single one of them. And make sure they don’t shift ‘til I’ve given them the all clear. Hybrid injuries are tricky, but they’re aggravated by the shift.” You nod, hanging onto every word she says, forcing your tired brain to take mental notes. “And-” she cuts her eyes at Jeongguk and Jin, both of whom are lingering in various extremes in the room, the deer hybrid sitting ramrod straight in a chair in the far right corner and the rabbit pretending to browse informational pamphlets. Once Dr. Cheon’s deemed it safe, she leans closer to you across the counter and gestures for you to come closer as well. You blink in confusion but acquiesce. “It’s important that your current hybrids be made to feel secure with the new additions coming.” She tells you, voice gravely serious. “Do you know about scenting order?”
After a beat, you nod. “Yeah. I mean, I read about it online but-”
Dr. Cheon tuts her tongue against the back of her teeth. “Online sources are shaky at best, wildly inaccurate at worst- particularly forums.” Your stomach flips. Had all your research been for nothing? “What did they tell you?”
“Um…” your brain boots up slowly as you try to recall the hours of research you’d done. “Uh, dominant hybrid first, then in age order?”
The corner of Dr. Cheon’s mouth quirks in an odd way. “That’s certainly a simplified way of looking at it.”
You wince.
“Hybrid group dynamics can be…” She searches for the right word. “Messy to start out with, especially with hybrids who don’t know each other who find themselves with an inexperienced handler. They’re all going to be trying to figure out where they fit in the pecking order as well as how their relationship with you works. There’s likely to be a lot of posturing, not just in order to impress you, but to solidify their place as well.” Dr. Cheon drags a hand down over her face. “Seven male hybrids under one roof...It’d be a miracle if no one’s missing fingers by the time the week’s out.”
“Is there any way I can stop them from being mean to each other?”
“I’m not a behaviorist,” The doctor sighs. “But I’d suggest you start with a conversation.”
You slide into the back of the taxi a little after 5:30 AM and pull out your phone. You’d promised to call on the way back and you don’t want a repeat of what’d happened the last time you’d forgotten. You scroll down your contacts, thumb hovering over Yoongi’s name and you hesitate. You remember warm lips, a rough tongue. You remember hands gripping your hips tight and a possessive growl in your ear. You press Taehyung’s name instead.
The tiger hybrid picks up on the third ring. “Hello?” His voice is slow and scratchy, still thick with sleep.
“Hey, it’s Y/N-” Almost immediately a happy rumbling starts from his end of the line. You can hear the sleepy joy in it and it makes your face warm.”A-and I just wanted to let you guys know I’m on the way home.”
Taehyung hums in acknowledgement, a low, musical sound. “Where’d you go?”
You bite your lip as nerves spark up in you. Well, all things considered, it was probably better for him to find out now rather than later. “The last two hybrids my uncle got…they were hurt and I had to come get them.”
The line is quiet for a moment and you gnaw at the bottom of your lip. Finally, Taehyung speaks. “Ah.” That’s all he says. Somehow, that’s worse than whatever Yoongi growling at the new hybrids or Jimin icing them out.
“I’ll be home in about another forty-five minutes, okay? Could you have everyone get together in the living room for me? We need to have a conversation.”
“Yeah, I can.”
You wince. There’s an almost imperceptible change in his voice. You swallow. “Taehyung, are you upset?”
He hums again like he’s considering it. “No,” he answers after a moment. “I don’t think i am. At least, not with you.”
That does little to allay your fears, but you force yourself to sound upbeat when you tell him, “I’ll see you when I get home, okay?”
“Okay. I’ll see you when you get home.”
The line clicks off and you drop your head against the headrest. A conversation. It should be a simple thing, but you spend the entirety of your taxi ride back to Gangnam with your stomach in knots. If the thought of introducing your two (very injured, very vulnerable) new hybrids to a house full of predators wasn’t enough, you have to try to allay Jeongguk’s inexplicable fear of the taxi driver. The middle aged man isn’t thrilled about ferrying hybrids across the city anyway, but between Seokjin swooning and Jeongguk thumping his foot so hard the whole car rattles whenever the man so much as looks in his rearview mirror, he’s almost ready to put all three of you out on the side of the highway. You have to promise him a 50,000 won tip just to get him to relent. He rolls up the partition, but even that doesn’t put Jeongguk at ease.
The rabbit hybrid is curled up in the corner of the backseat, his back against the door, his injured arm cradled close and his knees pulled up to his chin. His ears are on high alert, twitching at every passing car or stray siren. His whole body is tensed up like there’s a current running through it, like if he lets himself relax for a second, he’ll disperse into nothing. He’s glaring daggers at the partition, but you know he can’t see the driver. The car rolls over a speed bump a bit too fast and he flinches, hand shooting out for the door handle.
You watch him, concern coloring your scent. It’s not your place to ask, you know, and you feel almost stupid doing it, but the words slip out of their own accord. “Are you okay?” It’s a ridiculous question. You can still see the bruises blooming on his cheekbone, see the angry red of his split lip in the stray light of street lamps. His dark eyes flick toward you, round nose twitching.
“How do you know he’s taking us somewhere safe?” His gaze shifts from you, to the partition, to Seokjin, dozing fitfully on your otherside. The deer hybrid had finally surrendered to his pain meds not a second after you’d helped buckle him in. He’d been out cold before the driver had pulled away from the curb.
“Because that’s what I paid him to do,” you tell him, truthfully. You’d never given much thought to how much trust you placed in taxi and bus drivers to not kidnap you before. You certainly had to now, especially when Jeongguk seemed hyperaware of the fact that you’d entrusted all of your lives to a stranger. The rabbit hybrid swallows, his adam’s apple bobbing in the long column of his throat. He gives a little shake of his head.
“He could take your money and still take us somewhere bad. He could take us up into the mountains and Seokjin and I wouldn’t be able to do anything because we’re hurt and-”
“That’s not going to happen, Jeongguk,” you say in as soothing a voice as you can manage to muster up. “It’s really unlikely that that’ll happen, but even if it did, I’d do my best to protect you.”
He snorts, ears tilting back. They brush the roof of the car as they do and he shrinks himself, shoulders hunching forward. “What can you do?” His tone is derisive. “You’re only human. You’re not as fast as us or as strong-”
“I’d try,” you insist, some strong, unnameable emotion tightening your chest at the thought of them in danger. “If if came down to it, I’d still try to protect the pair of you-”
“You don’t even know me.” Jeongguk’s voice is edging somewhere between disgust and disbelief. You look away from him then and at your hands, gripping your knees.
“I don’t,” you agree easily. “But I’d like to. Even if I don’t- even if I didn’t, people should still help each other when they can. We owe each other that much.” The taxi is quiet for a moment, only the sound of tires rushing over the slick pavement and other cars zooming by filling the empty air between the two of you. Finally, the rabbit hybrid exhales shakily.
“I’m not a person.” He sounds resigned to that fact, like he’s accepted a burden far too heavy for him. “I’m not even an animal. I’m a-”
“Just because you aren’t human…” you start off hesitantly, very much aware that you might be crossing several invisible lines. “...doesn’t mean you’re not a person. You have your own thoughts and feelings and emotions. You deserve to have them heard. I know I’m not as fast as you or as strong, but the least I can do is listen to you, right?” The car is silent again. You’re too nervous to look at Jeongguk, worried that you’d gone too far- but then there’s a warm weight against your side. It starts slow at first, just your shoulders brushing against each other, but before you know it, Jeongguk’s leaning his whole body against yours. He’s slumped over with his head tucked beneath your chin like he doesn’t have the strength to hold himself up anymore. You swallow, your throat suddenly dry. “Jeongguk-”
“I’m afraid.” He admits in a whisper, like it’s the worst thing in the world. “Everything in me tells me to run all the time, but I can’t anymore.” His ears droop and his pretty dark eyes slip shut. This close, you can hear his heart beating at breakneck speed in his chest, feel how he shudders with every shaky inhale. “I’m so tired of running.” He’s terrified. You wouldn’t have guessed from his posture. Maybe the reason he held himself so tight was to stop himself from shaking apart.
You watch in surprise as the rabbit hybrid links his fingers with yours and drops your hand on top of his head, right between his velvety ears. “Help me like this.” You’re frozen, unsure what to do with a six foot tall man practically crawling into your sweatshirt with you. Was this really okay? He’d just been through something traumatic, the details of which you know nothing about. You hadn’t thought he’d want anyone to touch him, much less you, a virtual stranger. You don’t know what to do. The car jerks to a quick stop and the taxi driver leans on his horn, curses jaywalkers. Jeongguk’s grip on you tightens and he flinches so hard you’re surprised he didn’t knock his head into your teeth. He exhales shakily, tilts his head up and brushes his nose along the underside of your jaw. “Please,” he asks in a voice so small you know it’s killing him. “Just ‘til we get there, please just let me be weak.”
That breaks something inside you. Despite how awkward you might feel, he’s sure to be feeling worse. You wrap your arms fully around him, hesitant until you feel him go lax in your arms. You slowly stroke the back of his head and he buries his face in your clavicle, his eyes squeezed shut. “We’re almost there,” you assure him gently as he fists his good hand in the fabric of your sweatshirt. “You’re almost home.”
By the time the three of you arrive back at Haneul tower, the sky is lightening in the east and the first wave of office workers are making their way from your building into the streets of Gangnam. It’s not even 6 AM yet, but the city is stirring.
It takes you a good ten minutes to rouse both the boys and get them out of the taxi. After you’d let Jeongguk cling to you, the rabbit hybrid had fallen asleep quickly, the exhaustion from his turbulent day finally catching up to him. Even in sleep he was latched on to you, a small crease between his brows and his nose wrinkled up. Seokjin hadn’t fared much better. The cocktail of meds Dr. Cheon had given him had rendered him dead to the world for the entirety of the drive back. Even now you were having trouble rousing him.
“Seokjin…” You shake the sleeping stag’s shoulders but the only response you get is a slight hitch in his snoring. “Seokjin, please wake up, we have to go…” You can practically feel the glare the taxi driver is giving you in his rearview mirror. Yeah, the meter is still running, but you’ve taken up enough of his time as it is. “Seokjin, come on…” Jeongguk is standing behind you, staring bleary-eyed up at the apartment building, his free hand fisted in the fabric of your sweatshirt. If he’s cold in his thin tee-shirt and bare feet, he makes no mention of it.
Without warning, the taxi driver leans on the horn. Seokjin’s eyes fly open and he sits bolt upright, fear making his body tight. Jeongguk jerks so violently you think he’s going to rip a hole in your sweatshirt. You stumble back a few paces, trying to steady the rabbit and stop the pair of you from tumbling into the street. When you manage to right yourself, you slam a palm against the roof of the car and glare in the window at the driver. “Yo, what the fuck?”
The man glares back at you and waves you off. “I don’t have all day!” He shouts. “Get your animal and get out!”
You want to argue with him, you want to make him apologize- but the sight of Seokjin disoriented and afraid stops you. He’s looking at you with hazy eyes, his whole body stiff and his chest heaving. It’s for his sake alone that you hold your tongue. You reach a hand out to him. “Come on, buddy.” You say. “I got you.” He looks from your face to your hand and finally, slowly, places his own in it. His fingers are long and elegant and his hand dwarfs your’s. You tug him from the backseat and he leans heavily on you, hopping awkwardly to avoid walking on his broken foot. You pass him his crutches and he takes them, wobbling awkwardly as he tries to set himself to rights. “Can you stand?” You ask him. He nods and starts limping for the glass doors of Haneul Tower. He’s doing his best to look strong. His back is straight and his head is high, but you don’t miss the tremble in his fingers or the way he winces whenever the wind blows over the top of his head. You shove some bills at the taxi driver with a final, disapproving look, usher Jeongguk up onto the sidewalk and head inside after Seokjin.
The moment the three of you breach the double doors, Jeongguk drops his hand from your sweatshirt. His eyes rove over the glass and granite, round nose twitching at all the scents and his ears standing at attention on top of his head. He pauses, a little furrow between his brows. You’re halfway to the elevators, hovering a foot behind Seokjin in case he falls, before you notice the rabbit hybrid isn’t following you.
You cast a look back over his shoulder and find him gawking up at the hanging lights, mouth slightly ajar and starry-eyed. The corner of your mouth twitches. He’s cute, you decide. The thought leaves you almost instantly when you see Mr. Park powerwalking over to him, a sunny smile on his face. Jeongguk takes notice of him only a split second after you do and his eyes wide. You see him tense up, watch the fingers on his uninjured hand curl into a ball.
“You need to get him,” Seokjin says, sounding like he’s out of breath. You turn your attention back to the deer hybrid. He’s leaning heavily on his crutches and his face is pale. “You need to get him,” he repeats, nodding at Jeongguk. “That man gets any closer and Jeongguk will kick him.”
You whip back around. Mr. Park is closing the distance between them, seemingly unconcerned by the look of distress on the rabbit hybrids face or how his foot seems to be tapping a mile a minute.
“Excuse me!” The older man says, reaching out to put a hand on the rabbit hybrid’s shoulder. “Where’s your-”
“Mr. Park!” You practically sprint over as fast as you can, sliding between the receptionist and the hybrid just as he’d started winding his leg back. Mr. Park blinks, surprised to find you so suddenly in front of him. You offer him a tight smile. “He’s with me.”
“Oh! Ms. L/N, I apologize. He didn’t have a collar, so I assumed he was a stray.” The statement pricks at you, but you know he means nothing by it, so you try to stamp down your irritation. “It’s rare but we do occasionally have them come in in the hope someone will take them in.” He clucks his tongue against his teeth. “Such a shame really.”
You feel Jeongguk’s hand fist in the fabric of your sweatshirt. He wants to go. You nod emphatically at what Mr. Park says, already heading back to the elevators. “Yeah, totally,” you agree, shuffling the rabbit hybrid in front of you and putting some distance between him and the elderly man. “Well, have a good morning! I’ll see you later!”
“Ms. L/N, I actually need to speak with you-”
You wave him off and duck into the elevator Seokjin had called in your brief absence. “We’ll talk later!” You tell him, pressing the close door buttons as quickly as you can and willing them to shut before he can catch up.
“But it’s about your-!”
The doors click shut and you’re blessed with silence. You exhale in a short puff, press the button for the penthouse and slump against the cool metal wall, finally letting yourself relax for a moment. The elevator starts rolling and Jeongguk flinches beside you. He duck his head like he’s going to crouch down- but he stops himself, grips the railing instead.
“It’s okay,” You soothe. “It’s just-”
“I’m fine,” he insists, forcing himself to stand up straight and release the death grip he has on your sweatshirt. “I’m fine; my time’s up.”
It’s just like he’d said in the car. Just ‘til we get there, let me be weak.
The rest of the elevator ride passes in silence outside of the automated bell dinging as you pass each new floor and Seokjin panting quietly. He’s in a bad way. He’ll need another dose of pain meds soon. You arrive on the top floor, punching in the key code and pull the door open. “Let me get Seokjin settled, Jeongguk and I-” You run directly into someone.
Their arms wrap around you, covered in a brown cable knit sweater. It’s soft and they smell of vanilla. They press their cheek against the top of your head and exhale, a little rumble kicking up in their chest. “You’re back.” Taehyung.
“Hey, buddy.” You pat him on the back gently and peer around him. Yoongi and Jimin are both sprawled on the couch, legs kicked out so there isn’t room for anyone else to join them. Namjoon is sitting on the stairs shooting daggers at the back of Yoongi’s head and his arms crossed over his chest.Hoseok is lingering in the no man’s land between the living room and kitchen looking like he’d much rather be anywhere else. The atmosphere is tense to say the least.
Taehyung dips his head down. “I got them, like you said,” he whispers, lips brushing against the tip of your ear and his breath warm. You have fight off a little shiver, but if he notices it, he doesn’t react. “I don’t think Hyung and Jiminie like the others very much.”
You give a little nod of acknowledgement. “That’s okay,” you tell him. “We all just need to get to know each other a little better.”
Seokjin hobbles through the door, past the tiger hybrid and drops himself onto a stool on the kitchen with a heavy exhale. “Well, I’ve got maybe fifteen minutes at most before these meds catch a second wind, so let’s get this over with.” He’s doing his best to sound cavalier but he’s pallid. You don’t miss the thin sheen of cold sweat on his face and neck. “Seokjin. Twenty-eight. Red stag.”
All the other hybrids are staring at him in a mix of confusion, irritation and, in some cases, open dislike. It seems like they don’t know what to make of him. It’s Yoongi who speaks first. “If you’re a stag,” he drawls and you already feel dread welling up in you at what you know is going to follow. “Where are your antlers?”
Seokjin fixes him with a tight-lipped smile that doesn’t reach his eyes. “I only put them on for special occasions.”
“Okay!” You clap your hands together trying to diffuse the tension you can feel building. “New house rule: let’s not ask each other about injuries past or present unless we’re asking how to help.” Yoongi looks miffed, but he settles. It’s weird. Normally, you’d have expected him to say something snarky back to you. He’s trying not to push his luck after last night, you think. “Yoongi, why don’t you go next?”
His ears flick in annoyance, but he does as you ask. “I’m Yoongi, I’m twenty-seven and I’m a bobcat-”
“I’m Jimin,” his junior pipes up before he’s hardly had time to finish. “I’m an amur leopard and I came here with Yoongi-hyung and Tae. We’ve been with Y/N the longest.” He says it like it’s an important piece of information for everyone to know.
Beside you, Taehyung lifts one hand, palm up. “Hi,” he says calmly. “I’m Taehyung. I like the color purple.” Everyone watches him to see what else he’s going to say, but the tiger hybrid is finished. You give him a little nudge with your shoulder.
“Tell them how old you are and what your hybrid is,” you suggest.
“Oh,” he lifts his eyebrows like the thought genuinely hadn’t occurred to him. “I’m twenty-four and I’m a tiger.” Suddenly remembering something, he tilts his head forward in a little bow. “It’s nice to meet you all.” A sour look takes over Yoongi’s face and Jimin rolls his eyes, gestures for the youngest of their group to come sit beside him.
Hoseok is the next one to pipe up. “I’m Hoseok!” He seems to perk up a little when you turn your eyes to him, his docked tail giving as much of a wag as it’s able. “I’m a Doberman, I’m twenty-six and Joonie and I came from the same pla-”
“My name is Namjoon.” The wolfdog cuts off the other canine with a growl. All the wind goes out of Hoseok’s sails and you don’t miss the way Seokjin freezes up at the dark sound, suddenly alert. You weren’t sure if prey hybrids still avoided predator hybrids like their animal counterparts did, but you’d need to learn and fast. Namjoon leans back on the stairs, his jaw clenched. “I’m the same age as him-” he jerks his head at the Doberman hybrid. “-so I guess I’m twenty-six too.” He makes no mention of his hybrid and you don’t press. You don’t know how sensitive a subject it is for him yet, but you don’t want to find out the hard way.
Hoseok looks back at you and cocks his head to the side, his gaze fixed on a spot just over your shoulder. “Who’s he?”
Five pairs of eyes follow his. You turn around. Outside the apartment, still in the corridor, is Jeongguk, his back pressed against the wall and his eyes wide as he surveys the mixed bag of hybrids spread out in front of you. Your eyebrows furrow in concern.
“Do you wanna come in?”
His gaze flicks from you, to the cats, then to Hoseok and finally to Namjoon. It’s only when he sees the wolfdog hybrid that he moves from the wall. He takes halting, jittery steps one after the other until he’s planted by your side, his eyes on his bare feet. Every move he makes makes it look like he’s fighting against his own body, forcing himself to tamp down his instinct and move.
“Can you introduce yourself?” You ask him softly. “Or do you want me to?”
His good hand clenches into a fist and forces himself to look up. He meets each of the other hybrid’s eyes evenly. “My name is Jeongguk.” When he speaks, there’s no shake in his voice. “I’m twenty-three years old. I came from the same place as Seokjin but we don’t know each other that well. I’m a Flemish Giant Rabbit.” So that was why he was so big. You’d never seen a Flemish Giant in real life, but you’d happened across the odd youtube video of them once or twice in your suggestions. They were huge.
With introductions out of the way, you feel a little tension melt out of your shoulders. That was the biggest hurdle. Maybe now that they all at least knew each other, they’d be a little more open to being around each other. You let out a little exhale. “And I’m Y/N. I’m also twenty-three and this is my uncle’s apartment. He’s the only that bought all of you but I only found out you were coming a little over a week ago, so please forgive me for being unprepared.” You rub your palms against your eyes, trying to combat the exhaustion you can feel crawling over you. “I don’t know that much about hybrids, but I’m trying to learn. A lot of things you’re gonna have to help me with. I’m not expecting you guys to be pets or best friends or anything, but if we could all try to get along I’d appreciate it.” You offer all seven them a weary smile. “Thanks for getting up early to do this, guys, I appreciate it. If there’s anything you need, literally anything, please don’t be scared to ask-”
“Um, Y/N?” Hoseok is looking at you like he’s been dying to say something for the past five minutes. You turn your attention to him and squint as you try to focus on what he’s saying. “I did a sweep of the apartment earlier-” That was concerning. You make a mental note to tell him he doesn’t have to do security sweeps anymore. “-and there’s only four bedrooms.”
You blink at him in confusion.
“There’s eight of us.”
Oh. Oh. You drag your hands down over your face. You hadn’t accounted for lack of space being an issue. When you first moved in, Oliver’s penthouse seemed like it went on forever. “Okay,” you start, crunching some quick numbers. “Some of us are gonna have to double up.” There’s a disgruntled mrow from the couch and without looking, you know it’s Jimin. “Yoongi, Jimin and Taehyung are already sharing so they’re exempt, but Seokjin needs his own room- at least until he recovers.”
“That’s fine by me,” the stag chimes in. “But that leaves Jeongguk without a-”
“Hyung, can I stay with you?” The room goes quiet.
“Seokjin really needs his own room-” You pull your face out of your hands to address the rabbit hybrid, but he isn’t looking at the stag. His eyes are fixed on Namjoon who’s looking at him in a mix of confusion and alarm. The wolfdog looks from the rabbit to you.
“I saw a camp bed out in the greenhouse while you were showing us around last night.” He says, standing to go. “I’ll sleep out there.”
“Namjoon, you don’t have to sleep outside-”
“I like it out there.” He calls back over his shoulder as he climbs the stairs. “I can see the sky.” Then he’s gone and the six of you are left.
“Well,” Jimin purrs, rising and crossing the living room to you. “Best of luck.” He rubs his cheek against yours, folding you into a loose hug. You think he’s about to pull away, but he whispers in your ear, “If you want to share with us, you know where we sleep.” And then he’s gone, sauntering up the stairs with Taehyung and Yoongi in tow. The bobcat tosses a look at you, but you look away quickly, missing the way his ears sage when you do.
Now, the only ones left are you, Jeongguk, Hoseok and Seokjin who’s rapidly fading. “I’ll take the couch,” you volunteer. It wouldn’t be the most comfortable thing in the world, but right now, the stark white cushions look like heaven to your sleep-deprived mind. “Seokjin can have my room-”
“He can have mine,” Hoseok interjects. “And, if it’s okay, could I stay with you?” There’s a light whine on the end of his words and you don’t miss the way his ears prick up in anticipation of your answer. “It’s what I wanted to ask you earlier.”
Oh. When Jimin interrupted him, that’s what he’d been trying to say: he wanted to sleep in your room to be closer to you. To protect you.
“Yeah,” you agree easily. “Yeah, that’s fine.” Sharing beds wasn’t a big deal for you. You’d grown up in a flat with your mom and had shared a bed with her til she’d been taken from you. Then in foster homes with too many kids and not enough resources, you’d had to double- and sometimes even triple- up. It was a matter of convenience and space.
Hoseok’s tail gives a little wag and he nods, happy with your decision.
“Great!” Seokjin cheers weakly. “Now can someone please help me lie down.”
It’s Hoseok that helps the stag hybrid up the stairs and into bed. He’s stronger than you and taller, so it only makes sense. You show Jeongguk to his new room and stay with him for a few minutes while he feels it out, making sure it’s safe. It’s only once he’s sequestered himself under the covers and dismissed you that you leave, closing the door quietly behind you as the rabbit hybrid settles down for some much needed sleep. You turn to head back for the stairs- but you find Yoongi at the other end of the corridor, staring you down. You stare back. He swallows.
“Can we talk?” He asks, his voice quieter than you ever remember hearing it.
You give a little nod. “Yeah,” you assent. “We need to.”
He meets you halfway, his hands shoved into the pockets of his joggers and his gaze anywhere but on your face. The seconds stretch out and you exhale, closing your eyes. “Yoongi, about last night-”
“I’m sorry,” he interjects. “About what happened in the elevator. It was disrespectful and immature. I won’t do it again.”
You balk at him. You’d honestly expected him to tell you you were being childish for reacting so strongly to it when you’d told him he could mark you whenever he was ready. But he hadn’t. He shuffles back a few steps, his head still low.
“Well, that was all I wanted to say to you, so-”
“Do you understand?” You ask him. He stops short. “Do you understand why I was upset?”
His tongue darts out to wet his lips and you see a little furrow between his gray eyebrows. “Because I marked you.”
“No,” you insist, emphatically. “I was upset because it didn’t feel like you were doing it for me.” He does look up at you then, yellow eyes unreadable. “It didn’t feel like you were marking me because we’re friends or you wanted me to be a part of your group. It felt like you were doing it to show off in front of Namjoon and Hoseok.” You swallow. “And that hurt my feelings.” It feels good to say. It feels good to talk about.
He lets out a little chirp of distress. “I don’t wanna hurt you,” he rasps. “I just-” He rakes a hand back through his hair and shakes his head. “Fuck, I just felt like if I didn’t do something right then you’d get bored of me and send me away. I thought you’d replace me with them.”
Your heart twists. You know the feeling more intimately than you’d like to admit. You reach out, hesitantly and squeeze Yoongi’s arm. “Yoongi, I’m not gonna send you away. Ever. It’s important to me that you know that. Unless you wanna go, you can stay. There’s room enough for all of you.”
“No there’s not, that’s why we’re sharing rooms,” he drawls.
You roll your eyes and let out a little chuckle. “Okay, smart-ass.”
The corner of his mouth curls up at the playful insult. After a moment, he speaks. “I don’t, for the record,” he says. “Wanna go, I mean.” He stares down into your face, yellow eyes intense. The seconds drag on and something between the two of you grows tight. He leans down, face nuzzling the soft spot between your ear and your jaw. He huffs. “Bunny scented you,” he mutters, tail flicking in annoyance, but there’s no heat behind it. You’re relieved.
“He was afraid in the car,” you answer softly. “I think it helped.” Your hands slip from his arms around his back and he purrs. It’s the first time you’ve heard him make that sound. It sends warm vibrations through your whole body and you giggle. Yoongi smiles against your skin and your heart leaps. He’s never smiled around you before. You can’t see it, but you can feel it. You know it’s there. “Do you want to try again?”
Yoongi exhales, his breath warm on your neck. “Can I?”
“Yeah,” you say, tilting your head to the side for him. “You can.”
This time is different, you can feel that from the onset. His fingers wrap gently around your hips and he nuzzles into your skin. He nips lightly at the skin below your ear, the corner of your jaw, all down the column of your neck until he reaches the spot where it joins your shoulder. He hums, wraps his arms around you fully and pulls you flush against the hard line of his body. Your breath hatches and you can practically hear your heart thudding traitorously in your chest.
It’s not a big deal, you tell yourself as he laves his rough tongue against your feverish skin. It’s not a big deal; marking isn’t sexual. This isn’t a big deal, there’s no need to be nervous or get- the points of his teeth scrape over the mark before he laps at again and you have to bite back a whimper. Your knees feel a little weak- that is, until Yoongi slots his thigh between them, keeping you up while he finishes his work. Your hands ball up into fists in the fabric of his t shirt and you grit your teeth together with the effort of keeping quiet. He pulls off your neck with a wet pop and you swear you’re imagining it when he presses a final kiss to his mark. He noses your ear, still purring and you think he’s gonna mark you more- but then his warmth is gone and his standing before you, eyes a little hazier but no worse for wear.
He reaches up and flicks you in the forehead. You grumble at him, covering the spot up with your hands before he can do it again. A lazy smirk spreads out on his face. “Welcome to the family,” he drawls. Then he’s turning on his heel and heading back to his shared bedroom. “Don’t wipe this one off this time, okay?”
You nod mutely after him as he disappears, your hand cupping your mark. “What was that?” You wonder. You descend the stairs in a daze, your mind whirling. None of your research had told you creating a mark would be like that. You’d thought it was a quick thing and Yoongi had just been showboating for the canines. Even in the videos you watched, the hybrid had leaned in close to the human, given then a few quick swipes with their tongue and moved on. Then again, those hybrids had all been domesticated dog or cat breeds. “Are exotics different?” You muse, turning the handle to your bedroom- and promptly tripping over someone.
This time, you don’t go all the way down. You make it halfway before Hoseok catches you. “Ah, I’m sorry, Y/N!” The dog hybrid whines, fussing over you as he sets you back to rights. “I’ll do better about staying out of your way, I promise-”
“It’s okay,” you soothe, trying to stop him from fretting. “It’s okay, I’m okay.” You survey the floor of your bedroom. It seemed like in his security sweep earlier, Hoseok had found the linen cabinet and made use of the spare blankets. His pillow and a comforter are set up in a little pallet on the floor in front of your door. It seems he’d been putting the final touches on it when you’d stumbled over him. “Hoseok…” you start slowly. The Doberman looks at you, ears pricked up. “Hoseok, I wasn’t expecting you to sleep on the floor.”
He cocks his head to the side, doglike even in his confusion. “Then where…?”
“The bed is big enough,” you say, gesturing to the queen sized bed dominating the center of the room. “I don’t mind sharing if you’re comfortable with it.”
His adam’s apple bob’s in his throat as he swallows, suddenly serious. “Yeah,” he says with a nod. “Yeah, I’m comfortable with it.”
You nod and pat him on the shoulder, passing him as you head to bed. “Come on, then.” You collapse onto your bed face-first and slip back under the covers with a groan. “I’m just gonna take a quick nap before I’ve gotta get up and deal with stuff…”
The room is quiet, but somewhere in it, you can hear Hoseok shuffling around. “Maybe I should check to make sure everything is safe one more time?”
You exhale, your eyes slipping shut. “Hoseok…”
“Did you lock the front door after you came in? I think the rabbit...Jeongguk was the last one in? I don’t remember him locking-”
“Hope, bed. Now.” He doesn’t say anything else, but a few seconds later, you feel the far side of the bed dip with his weight. You sigh as he shifts to get under the blankets and you snuggle down further into your pillow. “Sleep well, Hobi.”
He mumbles something under his breath about security being a serious issue, but you don’t catch it. You’re already halfway to dreamland.

Thank you to @abitjess for beta reading
Shout out to @rec-me-bts for my beautiful banner and divider! I gave you literally nothing and you made magic. thank you so so much.

I love my quiet neighborhood. There’s really no noise aside from the few kids I hear after school and on weekends. Everyone knows each other and we all look out for one another. It took a few months for me to adjust to the culture but everyone was so kind and patient, helping me adjust. All but my immediate neighbor. He always seemed a bit grumpy with me…only me. I’ll get to him later.
The neighborhood has the most beautiful landscaping you could imagine. The parking lot is lined with vibrant fragrant plants. There is a three mile walking path lined with flowering trees of all colors. The colors vary from lavish lilacs, blush pinks, milky whites, and a fiery orange; as if someone was trying to grow a rainbow. The path is surrounded by thick luscious green grass, perfect for sitting to read or stretch. This is my favorite place to be. Every morning before work, I’ll jog or walk the path to get my blood flowing. After work, it’s the perfect place to unwind; watching families play around and fill the air with laughter, smelling the floral fragrances, or listening to the birds singing melodic songs. Most nights I read or practice yoga until the sun dips below the horizon and nature paints the silky smooth sky like a kaleidoscope.
The first day I moved in, it felt like I was in a different world; a kind and relaxed world. Everyone introduced themselves and grabbed a box, following me into my apartment. It was very odd at first but it felt good. An older gentleman went to grab a heavier box when Mr. Grumpy came out of nowhere and said, “Uncle! Don’t. I got this one.” How sweet, right? Wrong. It was the last box and he decided to leave it outside my door. I nicely asked, “Would you mind putting that in the bedroom?” His response…”Guess you shouldn’t have packed it so heavy.”
Not a great first interaction.
I watched him for weeks while I doodled with chalk with the neighbor children, ate grilled food family style with the adults, and gave my backstory to all the inquiring elders. The kids were gathering flowers from the trees along the path and bringing them to each adult, then throwing them up in the air and letting them rain down. When they did this to Mr. Grumpy, he proceeded to give them a botany lesson.
“You know all these different colored flowers have meanings,” he stated while separating the colors.
“Like what, Uncle!?” The children were intrigued and swarmed him to hear more.
“The white plumeria means new beginnings, the red poinciana is for confidence, and the purple… these have a longer story but I’ll just say, if one lands on your head it’s good fortune. These are for wisdom and good luck.” The kids were all talking at once, repeating everything they just learned. He smiled at them and I suddenly noticed how handsome he was.
“What was the name for the purple one?” I asked.
“That one is from the Jacaranda tree.” He barely looked at me when he responded.
He was so smiley and polite to everyone…everyone except me. I knew everyone’s name and basically their ancestral origin, but nothing about him.
One night I thought I would be slick and bake some chocolate chip cookies stuffed with oreos. They are heavy as a brick and sweeter than sugarcane, but delicious nonetheless. After making my rounds around the complex, I knocked on his door.
“Yeah?” he said while opening the door to just a crack.
“Hi! I’m Miji, your new neighbor.”
Stone cold, no reaction.
“Umm, so I made these cookies…it’s chocolate chip stuffed with an oreo. They’re great with milk or ice cream…”
“That sounds like diabetes.”
“Oh.” I was so stunned, nothing else would come out. We stared at each other for what felt like an eternity before someone was coming out of their door.
“Oh Miji! The cookie was so good, thank you dear,” the older woman looks at my hands, “Yoongi, why haven’t you taken it yet? Be a good neighbor and accept her treat.”
“Yes, Auntie. Since you said it was good.” He opens the door wider and holds his hand out watching the older woman descend down the staircase.
“I hope you like it…Yoongi was it?” he sighs as if I just cursed him. “Is that really your Aunt?”
“How long have you been here?” he sneers.
“Just a few weeks.”
“And you haven’t heard anyone call others auntie and uncle…what do the neighbor children call you?”
“Oh yeah… they do call me auntie, but I just thought they were confused.”
“It’s just the culture.”
“That’s so sweet!”
“Sure…okay…goodnight,” he begins to shut the door.
“Wait. Will you be at the cookout this weekend? I feel like I know everyone but you.”
He raises one eyebrow, “Why do you need to know me?”
“I mean I don’t need to but–”
“Kay. Night.” and the door shuts. I was genuinely trying to introduce myself and get to know him like all the others but he was not interested.

After a month of getting settled in my new place, I decided it was time to explore the three miles of planted rainbow. I felt like a child walking and running, taking pictures of the flower trees from any and every angle. My gallery was filled with dozens of pictures of each color glowing from the sun. Two miles down, I saw him running towards me. I took my earbud out and waved to say hello but he just kept going, not even making eye contact. What is his problem with me? I continue my run and admiration of nature’s flourishing beauty. I took my time getting back and as I was walking up the stairs, he was coming out of his apartment.
“Going to work?” I asked. He nods, glaring at me with irritation. “Have a great day!”
I never met him before, never talked to him, and hardly have been in the space adjacent to him long enough for him to hate me already. Trying to be nice became a chore with him, so I declared that day to be the last time I tried to make a good impression.
The weekend comes and I’m baking again. This time brookies! Brownie mixed with chocolate chip cookie. I had the windows open, music playing, and drinking my third can of hard seltzer. I finished mixing the two doughs and put the pan in the oven. As soon as the oven door closes, there’s a knock at my door. Thinking it’s probably the kids from downstairs, I opened the door with a huge smile.
“Are you trying to piss people off?”
Yoongi to the rescue to kill my vibe and my buzz. “What do you mean?”
“Turn your music down. It’s ridiculously loud.”
“Are you kidding? It’s not even that loud.”
He looks at the source, “It’s literally on the wall between us. I can hear it as if it’s on my own tv.” I’m sick of him.
“Not a problem, Sir. I will rearrange my living space to accommodate your needs.” I start to close the door but he puts his hand on it, stopping me.
“You don’t have to be rude–”
“Me?! Be rude?! You’re one to talk! I haven’t done anything to you, yet you look at me like I’m a thorn in your eye!”
“Thorn in my side.”
“What?”
“The saying is ‘thorn in my side’ not ‘thorn in my eye’.”
“Whatever…you knew what I meant.” Was that a smile? Did he just smile at me? “What’s so funny?”
“You’re cute. Please keep it down though, I have to work late and I’m trying to take a nap.”
“Okay…” and that was when everything changed. He nodded at me on the path when we passed each other. He said good morning or evening when we were coming or going from our apartments. The ice really broke when I was playing with the kids in my apartment, they had left the door open. I was learning the latest viral dance from them when he peeked in while opening his door. One of the kids saw him and begged for him to come as well.
“Uncle, uncle! Come learn with auntie. She needs extra help!”
I burst out laughing, “Hey! I’m not that bad!”
He smiled, “Maybe another time, uncle’s gotta get some rest.”
“Okay kiddos, let’s go outside now so the music isn’t so loud. Who wants to do Yoga while the sun sets?” The kids cheered and started running out.
“Miji,” he called, “thanks.” There was that handsome smile again.
“No problem Yoongi, don’t want to disturb your beauty sleep,” I replied, giving him a wink.
One morning, we ended up walking out at the same time to start our run. Not to invade his space, I smiled and nodded with my earbuds in and started my jog. I was looking up at the trees when I saw the most beautiful birds and butterflies fluttering about. I had to try to capture the sight for my ever growing gallery of nature. I had enough pictures to publish my own national geographic at that point. Down low there were white butterflies along with the orange and black monarchs and at the tree tops were radiant green birds gliding from branch to branch.
“They’re beautiful, yeah?” Yoongi says, cordially.
“Yes! I’m amazed every day I’m out here. I can’t get enough.”
“I can tell.”
“I’m sure you’re used to it.”
“I take for granted how much beauty there is…this is the first time in a while I’ve stopped to enjoy the view.”
“You should see my photo gallery.” I laughed.
“Enjoy the rest of your run,” he grinned.
“Yeah…you too.” I couldn’t help but wonder, were we friends now? I felt like he was finally coming around to me. I grew fond of him and his casual conversation.
I didn’t see him for a week and asked the elderly woman across the way if everything was okay. She told me that Yoongi frequently went on business trips and would be away for weeks at a time. A few nights later, in lotus pose under a Jacaranda tree, I had just tucked my phone away from snapping pictures, when a familiar voice appeared.
“So how many sunset pictures do you have?”
“Hey stranger. I do have quite the collection.”
“I’m not interrupting am I?”
“Not at all. Care to join?”
“Yoga? No thanks. But I’ll sit here with my camera.”
“You like photography too? Or just sunsets?”
“Both.”
“I never see you out here at night.”
“I see you all the time.”
“Oh yeah?”
“Kinda hard not to,” he says shyly, running his fingers through his hair.
“Don’t tell me I have a secret admirer…” I joked.
“Not so secret anymore.”
“You're serious? Then why were you so mean to me before?”
“Mean?”
“Yeah! So mean, I nicknamed you Mr. Grumpy…” he laughed, and I found it adorable.
“I guess I just didn’t know what to do with my feelings.”
“Your…feelings?”
He grabs my hands and pulls me up to him, our faces now extremely close together.
“Yeah…you’re gorgeous and I wanted to kiss you the minute I saw you. I wasn’t sure how to deal with that. I’ve never felt that before and it scared me a little. Especially since I didn’t know anything about you.”
I was dazed. Suddenly, I knew no words.
“Miji, can I kiss you?” he asked so sweetly, placing his hand on my face and gently brushing his thumb across my cheek bone. With our eyes locked, staring into each others’ souls, I nodded my head yes.
His lips were doughy, covering mine completely. My arms instinctively wrapped around his waist, getting comfortable in the moment. He pulled away slightly, resting his forehead on mine.
“I’m sorry I was mean to you. I promise I’m not like that at all.”
“I can forgive you under one condition.”
“What’s that?”
“Kiss me again.”
“I could get used to this,” he said through that handsome smile I was so fond of.
“I could very well be in love with you.”
And there, under the Jacaranda tree, where we were surrounded by petals of confidence and good fortune, the sky turned into a blaze of color, and we declared a confession leading us to a new beginning.

Thanks for reading! (✿◠‿◠)

The Most Beautiful Moment in Life <I’M FINE>
BTS Universe Story Highlights, pt. 2 / 4
« pt. 1 | » pt. 3
Introduction
JungKook’s and YoonGi’s stories are the first of the paid content in BTS Universe Story and are substantially more detailed than the episodes covered in part 1. As this led to longer summaries (4.2k and 3k), I have added “tl;dr commentary” at the bottom of the post after a section of additional thoughts. This commentary summarizes the parenthetical asides I made throughout the summaries and may be of interest as standalone reading to those who have already played the game yet would like to review its connections to the BU texts and MVs.
Content warning: contains references to death, suicide, suicidal ideation, child abuse, domestic violence, blood, homicide, depression, trauma, PTSD
This guide contains major spoilers and includes references to other BU media

The Boy on the Threshold
In this story, SeokJin works to uncover the motivations behind JungKook’s nightly street wandering, instigation of fights with thugs, and decision to jump from the roof of a construction site. He was aware of the “darkness” within JungKook but never thought that he would give up on himself. SeokJin is determined to find a way to make JungKook think “I want to live” on his own.
In the afternoon on 11 April Year 22, SeokJin drives by the crosswalk outside Songju Jeil High School. Spotting a grim-faced JungKook, he gets out to greet him. JungKook visibly brightens and pelts him with question after question, finally finishing with, “But how come you’re here at school?” If the player chooses the response “I came to see you” rather than “I was in the neighborhood,” JungKook seems a little disbelieving due to the coincidental timing but nevertheless pleased. SeokJin offers him a ride, thinking that JungKook will not carry out that night’s actions from previous loops if he gets home right away. In the car, SeokJin reminisces aloud about the day they all met. On 3 March Year 19, all seven boys arrived late on the first day at Songju Jeil High School and were scolded outside by the Dean. (Aside from the absence of extra students, this scene looks very similar to the BTS Begins Middle Scene VCR, including the detail of YoonGi arriving last. This VCR predates official BU content.) When the Dean spotted SeokJin in their lineup, he reduced their punishment of community service for one month to just that afternoon. After classes, the boys cleaned the annex. The old classroom-turned-storage room became their secret hideout where they enjoyed various activities like dancing, playing the piano, and spending time with one another. JungKook appears happy as they chat about their school days, although in one path, his face falls after he remembers when he and YoonGi were caught in the annex. SeokJin is concerned, but JungKook insists, “It’s nothing.”
They say goodbye outside JungKook’s house, but SeokJin watches to make sure he goes inside. JungKook hesitates before ringing the bell at the gate. His mom answers, surprised and at a loss by his unexpected arrival. She asks him to come back later because his father’s relatives stopped by, and the intercom cuts off before he can answer. (His mother remarried, so this is really his step-father and family.) SeokJin wonders if JungKook has no one to lean on at school or at home and if this is why he wanders the streets at night. He asks JungKook where he wants to go now. “The beach… the one I went to with you guys,” JungKook answers, then says he’s kidding when SeokJin hesitates, thinking about the night ahead. SeokJin invites JungKook home instead, hoping to keep an eye on him before he needs to save NamJoon at the gas station.
In his bedroom, SeokJin hastily takes down the map and notes pinned on the wall of the boys’ incidents around the city. After letting JungKook inside, he shows him a box of photos from their time together in school. While JungKook browses, a notification on SeokJin’s phone reminds him of Songho Foundation’s inaugural ceremony that evening. Songho Foundation is a scholarship foundation funded by his maternal grandmother’s estate, and his father formally introduces him on this occasion. SeokJin also receives a call from his father’s long-time aide, a man he refers to as Uncle JunHo, who instructs him not to be late to the ceremony. Claiming it won’t take him long, SeokJin asks JungKook to stay there and wait for him to return. He is worried about leaving JungKook alone but also concerned that bringing him to the gas station after the ceremony will make him late to intervening in NamJoon’s incident.
In the lobby of the hotel hosting the Songho Foundation Inauguration Ceremony, SeokJin recognizes many important faces from around the city: Song JunHo, his father’s aide; Seo HyunJung, the city’s deputy mayor; the CEO of Youngjin Engineering & Construction Company; a professor from Munhyeon University; and the Jeil High School principal, Jo JinMyung. SeokJin doesn’t want to cross paths with the principal but is drawn into a conversation with him, the mayor, and his father, Kim ChangJun. “Assemblyman! Congratulations on the launch of the scholarship foundation,” Deputy Mayor Seo says to Kim ChangJun. “I hear that your son has been accepted to Munhyeon University? You must be happy that he’s attending your alma mater.” Kim ChangJun shakes his head. “He still has a lot to learn.” She remarks that everyone knows how well SeokJin has grown up and inquires about his career plans. The player is presented with three choices: “I haven’t decided yet,” “I want to become a good person,” and “I want to become someone like my father.” SeokJin’s father continues to look grim while the others chuckle in response to the first two answers, but his expression softens at the third, which SeokJin knew would not rub him the wrong way. Deputy Mayor Seo proposes to Assemblyman Kim that they establish a regular meeting to discuss community development, mentioning that it would be better if he could invite the city’s prominent citizens and give a speech. Assemblyman Kim agrees, telling his assistant Song JunHo to make note of it. The ceremony concludes, and the guests head towards the hotel’s restaurant. SeokJin is wary of his father’s watchful gaze but impatient to carry out the rest of the night’s plans. While his father is surrounded by other people, he informs Uncle JunHo that he has to leave to work on a group project. SeokJin slips out of the hotel and heads to NamJoon’s gas station.
While SeokJin is gone, one of the photos in the box catches JungKook’s eye. It shows the seven boys sitting on a wall with the ocean behind them. (This photo resembles the shot in Euphoria at 5’32” except that they appear to be wearing school uniform shirts and slacks.) A flashback retells the afternoon of 12 June Year 19 when the boys cut school early and visited the sea, trudging over 3 kilometers under the scorching sun to find a boulder that is rumored to make your dreams come true. (The date is not specified in the game, but the memory closely follows this set of entries in The Notes 1.) Everyone collapses in disappointment when they can’t find the rock at its designated location. JungKook is tired but not as disappointed as the others—just walking there with them is enough for him, even though he often feels uncertain of his place among the group. He gets up on the pier railing, reflecting: “I’ve always liked walking on the edge of walls or on top of lines. Focusing on centering my gravity means that I don’t really think of anything else, and the boundary—not quite a part of either place—always felt like where I should be.” Balancing precariously, JungKook walks until someone grabs his arm. YoonGi scolds him not to do this. JungKook assures him that he will not fall but privately thinks: “YoonGi would often grab my arm when I walked on railings. The others would look after me, too, after seeing him do that. I liked their helping hands. It felt like they were telling me that I should go to them. That this wasn’t my place. Maybe their hands were why I walked on the railings.”
The story returns to the present in SeokJin’s perspective. He rushes back to his room after saving NamJoon and finds JungKook asleep, leaning against the bed with the photos still scattered around him. Feeling both relief and regret, SeokJin quietly coaxes JungKook to lay down and sleep more comfortably. JungKook wakes up and says he should go home after hearing that it’s past ten o’clock. The game cuts briefly to SeokJin’s father in his study with his aide. Kim ChangJun asks Song JunHo to fetch SeokJin, as he needs to know what goes on for the foundation. JunHo says that SeokJin must be entertaining a guest for the group project because he spotted an unfamiliar pair of shoes in the entryway.
Back in his bedroom, SeokJin is startled when his father knocks on the door. It’s rare for his father to visit the second floor of their home, so he let his guard down while chatting with JungKook. “F-Father.” Stammering, SeokJin flinches and gathers up the scattered photos. “Did you leave the ceremony early to waste time like this? Even lying to say you were doing a school project?” asks Kim ChangJun. His cold and reproachful stare suffocates SeokJin. When his father’s eyes scan to JungKook standing awkwardly at the side, SeokJin is plunged into a childhood memory. On 10 October Year 9, 9-year-old SeokJin hid a school friend who was being chased by scary men in his bedroom. His father arrived and asked if the boy was Mr. Choi’s son, saying people had come to take him. When Kim ChangJun ordered him to “be a good boy,” SeokJin froze and was powerless to stop his friend from being handed over. The following day, SeokJin was told his friend transferred schools. (This event is also depicted as the first entry of The Notes 1.) In the present, SeokJin struggles to think of an explanation, smothered by that memory and his father’s pressuring stare. JungKook timidly speaks up. “I was only here to visit for a short while. I was actually about to head home. Hey, I’ll go now.” SeokJin knows he can’t leave him alone yet and finally forces himself to move. “Father, I… I’m going to go out for a little while.” He runs outside, but JungKook is already gone.
The story cuts to JungKook’s perspective as he arrives in a familiar alleyway. He is thankful that SeokJin was so considerate to him but feels that he shouldn’t have gone to his home since it made things more complicated for his friend. “YoonGi even got expelled because of me… Why do I always mess things up for the people around me?” JungKook thinks. The player is presented the choice to either text SeokJin or call YoonGi. In the first path, SeokJin calls JungKook while he is mid-text and says that he’ll come pick him up, but JungKook declines, thanks him, and hangs up. In the second path, JungKook fiddles with his phone, wondering if YoonGi will be annoyed or even answer. He remembers when they crossed paths a few days earlier. On 7 April Year 22, JungKook heard a familiar tune while roaming the dark streets and saw YoonGi playing piano through a broken window of a music shop. YoonGi stopped and eventually staggered out of the shop without noticing JungKook reaching out to him. JungKook tried to play the music by memory, and suddenly YoonGi returned—just like their days at the classroom. (Note: In his 7 April Year 22 entry of The Notes 1, YoonGi is drunk and stumbling by an empty construction site when he recognizes a clumsy piano tune that he’d been playing “not long ago.” But when he runs to the music shop and finds JungKook, the text does not indicate that he remembers this is his second visit to the shop this evening. Additionally, the Wings short film First Love seems to reference some of the events of this night—or evokes YoonGi’s distorted memories of it, mingled with a representation of JungKook’s later accident.)
In the present (11 April), JungKook wonders if YoonGi is doing well. He has thought about him since their chance encounter but doesn’t have the courage to call him first. (The narrative paths rejoin here.) JungKook wonders where he should go now yet doesn’t want to think about anything. He stops in the middle of the road, and a passing car’s headlights make him dizzy. SeokJin arrives in the distance and shouts his name, but JungKook just thinks, “One more step from here. Just one more step, and everything ends.” He steps in front of the honking car. SeokJin calls him in the distance, and JungKook feels everything slip farther away. The glass shatters and the loop resets.
Awakening once more on the morning of 11 April, SeokJin vows to protect JungKook until the end. The memory of arriving too late as JungKook threw himself in front of the car reminds him of how he was also unable to protect his childhood friend when he was 9. He needs to devise a new plan, since JungKook practically ran out of the house when confronted by Kim ChangJun. The story cuts to that evening, with JungKook looking at the photo in SeokJin’s bedroom. This time, SeokJin ignores his phone’s buzzing reminder about Songho Foundation’s inaugural ceremony. He asks JungKook where he’d like to get next and, when he doesn’t have any ideas, offers him a tour of the university campus.
JungKook seems happier looking around the campus, the cherry blossoms in full bloom. SeokJin uses this opportunity to ask him if anything is on his mind and if school is going well. JungKook answers nonchalantly, but SeokJin remembers how grim he looked at the school crosswalk that afternoon. He asks if JungKook still hangs out with the other guys. “HoSeok and TaeHyung are working part-time jobs. The others… I’m not sure,” JungKook answers, expression darkening. SeokJin wonders if he shouldn’t have brought it up but still presses him. “How come? You should talk to them from time to time.” “But it’s because of me,” says JungKook. “The reason why YoonGi was expelled… It was because he was trying to protect me.”
SeokJin either responds “It’s not your fault” or “Don’t think that way.” Following the first choice, JungKook insists, “No, it’s my fault. YoonGi wouldn’t have talked back to the teacher if I wasn’t there.” SeokJin shakes his head. “No, you couldn’t really do anything given the situation.” JungKook replies that he should have at least apologized and that he never had the chance to tell YoonGi he was sorry. “That’s how you felt, huh… I should’ve done more. I’m sorry,” SeokJin apologizes. JungKook shakes his head with a smile, but SeokJin knows that he doesn’t understand what he really meant. (Per events in The Notes 1, it is technically SeokJin’s fault that the teacher found them in the classroom.) If the second dialogue choice, “Don’t think that way,” is chosen, JungKook questions, “How could I? When it was because of me.” “No…” SeokJin is not brave enough to say that he’s the one to blame. The camera (i.e. the animation) starts wobbling as though SeokJin’s vision is swimming. “SeokJin?” asks JungKook in concern. “I should’ve done more. I’m sorry.” The episode ends with the same dialogue and animation of JungKook shaking his head with a smile, except that in the second path the camera is still wobbling from SeokJin’s perspective. (This is the only episode I noted in the game that has a slight difference in endings based on the player’s final choice, although it is essentially cosmetic.)
Episode 5 opens with a more detailed memory of 11 June Year 20 from JungKook’s perspective. The high school was holding an open house for parents. Not wanting to stay in a classroom, he wandered off and heard piano music drifting from the annex. JungKook slipped into their classroom hideout and settled down to listen. YoonGi continued to play without acknowledging him. The music helped calm JungKook—it seemed as though YoonGi understood how he felt and was trying to console him. The sound cut off abruptly as the door slammed open. “You rascals! What are you doing here?!” the Dean of Students demanded. He slapped JungKook, knocking him down. A flurry of verbal abuse poured over his crumpled form. YoonGi shoved the teacher’s shoulder and stepped in front of JungKook. “Wow, look at this kid… You put your hands on a teacher? You better be prepared, Min YoonGi.” With that ominous threat, the Dean departed. JungKook spoke from the floor. “Hey, sorry for making you—” “It’s nothing,” YoonGi cut in. JungKook wondered why he helped him. It was the first time someone had protected him, and he believed that he would never forget the view of YoonGi’s back. YoonGi asked why JungKook was smiling. “I don’t know.” Still smiling, JungKook touched his throbbing cheek. YoonGi stared at him before breaking into his own smile and sitting down next to him. They sat there wordlessly for some time. The feeling of growing closer to YoonGi made JungKook feel giddy the rest of the day. But YoonGi did not come to school the following day, and two weeks later, he was formally expelled. (The encounter with the teacher and YoonGi’s subsequent expulsion are also referenced in JungKook and YoonGi’s 25 June Year 20 entries in The Notes 1.)
In a brief interlude in the present (11 April at the university campus), SeokJin reflects again that he does not have the courage to confess to JungKook the real reason why they drifted apart. He walks with his eyes trained on the ground until JungKook calls for him to look at the cherry blossoms floating in the wind. The scene cuts to 30 September Year 20 for another of JungKook’s school memories. He stood outside the school’s annex, reflecting that his friends probably didn’t know that he went there every day. Although school was a place he found awkward and unfamiliar, their hideout was a space for him that put him at ease. On that day however, only HoSeok was inside the classroom, gathering up the items they’d left behind. JungKook realized that the time they spent together was now a memory and would never return again. (This is also an entry in The Notes 1.) Back in the present, SeokJin notices that JungKook looks grim once more and tries to improve his mood by asking if they should go to the beach. JungKook privately wonders: “Do you think YoonGi would go? And no one knows what’s going on with JiMin. Will we really be able to go together like we did then?” Holding up his pink camera, SeokJin says they should take a picture to commemorate the evening. They’re both smiling in the photo, and he hopes that they’ll all smile together again one day. After their campus tour, SeokJin walks JungKook home, ignoring the many calls he receives from his father’s assistant JunHo.
At the crosswalk outside the high school the next day (12 April), SeokJin reflects that staying with JungKook instead of attending the inauguration ceremony seemed like a good choice. He prevented JungKook from jumping off the building and stopped NamJoon’s incident too. But SeokJin wants to keep an eye on JungKook for a few days. While he’s waiting, the principal Jo JinMyung approaches and greets him, asking what brings him to the school. SeokJin tries to excuse himself, but the principal brings up the ceremony. “I thought you’d be there, but you weren’t. Did something happen? Why weren’t you there?” Caught off guard, SeokJin either answers vaguely (“I had something important to do”) or honestly (“A friend had an emergency and I couldn’t attend”). JungKook joins them slowly during the exchange, and the principal seems a little suspicious regardless of the player’s choice. In the “honest” path, he adds, “Next time, think about what's truly important before acting.” The paths rejoin when the principal smiles pointedly and mentions that he should call the Assemblyman soon. SeokJin wonders if Jo JinMyung intends to tell his father that he was with JungKook. Kim ChangJun did not approve of the time SeokJin spent with his friends even in school. “Father thinks it’s useless to have human relationships that don’t help you succeed.” When he and JungKook are in his car, SeokJin notices that the principal ominously watches them pull away.
Later that day, SeokJin meets with his father in his office. Kim ChangJun looks exhausted. Though they’re similar heights, to his son he seems like a massive grey wall. “Why didn’t you attend the inauguration ceremony yesterday?” he asks. SeokJin either lies (“A professor asked me to do something last minute”) or answers honestly (“A friend had an emergency and I couldn’t attend”). The ultimate result is the same: Kim ChangJun speaks after a long moment of silence. “The one thing I want from you is for you to be a good son.” “Yes,” says SeokJin. “I don’t think it’s a difficult task. You may leave.” As he exits, SeokJin hears him call Song JunHo and worries that his flimsy excuse will fall apart. Running into the principal may have made matters worse too. Despite his uneasiness, SeokJin has no choice but to keep going and trust that everything will work out. While NamJoon and JungKook are safe for now, he wonders if he can be a person for JungKook to lean on for comfort whenever he needs it so that he will not resort to such an extreme decision again.
SeokJin visits JungKook after school every afternoon the following days. On 15 April, JungKook asks if it’s okay for him to come like this every day. SeokJin assures him, “Yeah. I come to see you because I want to.” He observes that JungKook still seems to take social cues from him rather than acting comfortably, so he encourages him to either pick what they do next or where they should go eat. On 19 April, however, JungKook does not appear at the school gates. SeokJin tries calling him, only to learn that the number isn’t in service. Someone shouts his name, and HoSeok emerges from the Twostar Burger across from the school. “I had heard you were back, but I didn’t think I’d see you here in front of the school.” HoSeok digs a piece of paper out of his pocket, explaining that JungKook stopped by earlier. “He said he’s switching schools.” SeokJin asks where, but HoSeok doesn’t know. This has never happened before in a loop, and SeokJin wonders if he caused it. HoSeok hands over the paper, which JungKook requested be given to SeokJin. It’s a drawing of the cherry blossom tree they saw together, with a thank you note written at the bottom. SeokJin hopes that his suspicions aren’t correct.
Hunting for clues to JungKook’s whereabouts, SeokJin visits Jeil High School’s administrative office the next day (20 April). He receives slightly more information if he acts like he knows the Director of Administration, but as the student records are confidential, the man only reveals that JungKook transferred to a boarding school. On 30 April, SeokJin is summoned to his father’s office. Kim ChangJun asks him to sit down and continues speaking with his aide, Song JunHo. He confirms an upcoming appointment with the Deputy Mayor before asking, “Oh, did you take care of that incident?” “Yes. Do you mean the one concerning the Jeil High student?” JunHo responds. “I’ve taken care of the issue with the student.” Heart racing, SeokJin realizes that his father was behind JungKook’s transfer and deliberately let it slip as a warning to him. On their way out, Uncle JunHo adds, “SeokJin. You do know how difficult it was because you didn’t attend the inauguration, right?” SeokJin promises that he’ll be at the next meeting. Back in his bedroom, he decides that he made the wrong choice in this loop. He wanted to be someone JungKook could always come to, but instead he pushed him farther away. HoSeok calls him at that moment. Voice wavering, he relays that JungKook has disappeared. Some of his classmates stopped by the restaurant that day, inquiring if anyone talks to him often.
The story cuts back to 25 April with JungKook in class at his new school. His mom likes the dormitory here, and he suspects that she feels more comfortable without him at home. School, home, the dorms—he doesn’t belong in any of those places. While pairing up the students, the teacher notices that they have an odd number now and asks JungKook where he wants to go. He closes his eyes and remembers a voice: “JungKook, let’s all go to the ocean.” He thinks, “I want to go…” The scene jumps to JungKook walking towards the ocean shore. The glass shatters.
SeokJin opens his eyes on the morning of 11 April. He wonders what caused the loop to reset and assumes something must have happened to JungKook after he transferred schools. Again, he could not keep his promise of getting them all to the ocean. The episode ends with SeokJin sitting atop the seaside observatory at sunset. (This is a key location on 22 May Year 22, recurring in The Notes and depicted in the HYYH On Stage: Prologue short film and Euphoria MV. It looks the same in the game.) SeokJin ruminates on what may have happened to JungKook and where events started going wrong. He thought he could be the person JungKook needed to lean on, but he failed. This arc concludes with him wondering: “Was my method wrong? Or is it not supposed to be me? Maybe… If the person who’s supposed to console JungKook’s scars and be there for him isn’t me… Then, who can save JungKook?”
The End of His Gaze
SeokJin’s main challenge in saving YoonGi is the unpredictability of his actions between loops. The opening of this story is no different. On 2 May Year 22, SeokJin chases YoonGi after he leaves his workroom with a heavy bag but loses sight of him in the streets. As soon as he picks the nearest motel, black smoke pours from one of its windows. (The sign matches the motel in YoonGi’s scenes of the I Need U MV.) YoonGi ignores the commotion outside the room’s locked door. Once again, SeokJin is too late, and the glass shatters, resetting the loop.
Waking in his bedroom on 11 April, SeokJin considers how YoonGi backs himself into a corner no matter how or when he tries to intervene. It’s different from the incident with NamJoon because no outside person or situation is involved. SeokJin realizes that if YoonGi’s struggle and variables that make his decision so unpredictable are within him, then the only way he can stop YoonGi is by truly understanding him. He takes out his old camcorder from high school, hoping its footage may reveal some clues. In the first video clip he plays, YoonGi is off in the corner of their classroom hideout drawing music staves but speaks up to tell HoSeok and TaeHyung not to play a prank on JiMin. SeokJin wonders if YoonGi still writes music and remembers the piano in his workroom. In the second video, TaeHyung quibbles with NamJoon, who is tired yet refuses to take a nap until YoonGi pushes some desks together and tells him to lie down. SeokJin focuses on YoonGi for the rest of the video, but he is either motionless or off camera. He finds a similar challenge within his photographs: he has less than ten solo photos of YoonGi, and though his face is visible in group pictures, he is never looking at the camera. Still perusing the photos, SeokJin overhears voices from the camcorder. “It being here is a secret. Okay?” TaeHyung whispers to YoonGi. “What’s a secret?” SeokJin in the recording asks. TaeHyung and YoonGi, standing by the piano, both whip around. TaeHyung dismisses it as nothing and shushes YoonGi when he asks, “Why are you hiding something like that?” In the present, SeokJin wonders what they hid in the classroom and decides that it’s worth investigating in case it can help him save YoonGi.
On 15 April, SeokJin visits their old classroom hideout at Jeil High School, which is still being used as a storage room. The player can choose from a total of four locations to explore, provided they select the piano last. SeokJin identifies his father’s name alongside the message “Everything started from here” on the graffitied wall (he first saw this note in his 25 June Year 19 entry from The Notes 1). Even after thoroughly examining the piano, he does not find YoonGi and TaeHyung’s secret or anything else useful. Uneasy at leaving YoonGi alone for so long, SeokJin leaves the school and parks in front of his friend’s workroom. YoonGi appears to be safely inside, so SeokJin browses through the old video files on his camcorder and finds one that continued recording after he thought he had pressed the stop button. Listening to his and YoonGi’s voices, he recalls a forgotten memory of the day they walked out of school together.
The majority of episode 3 plays through a memory of an afternoon that SeokJin and YoonGi walked out of school together (date unspecified; this event is also referenced in YoonGi’s 2 August Year 22 entry from The Notes 2 and the similar Note accompanying Map of the Soul: 7). SeokJin receives a text summoning him to the principal’s office. The office is empty yet suffocating when he arrives. Principal Jo JinMyung arrives and apologizes for making SeokJin wait. SeokJin looks down, heart suddenly heavy. The scene cuts to YoonGi entering the storage classroom as he thinks about all the days he doesn’t feel like going home. It’s not a comfortable place for him, yet there’s nothing for him at the school either, except for the group’s hideout. He feels awkward in the oddly quiet room and puts some sheet music on the piano’s rack. But when he thinks about how no one is there requesting songs from him, he can’t bring his hands up to the keys. The flashback transitions back to SeokJin’s perspective following his meeting with the principal. As expected, the principal wanted him to report on YoonGi’s behavior. SeokJin spoke carefully so as not to tip him off about anything, but he hears internal whispers calling himself a hypocrite even when he’s laughing with his friends. Fretting over how much longer he can protect YoonGi, SeokJin runs into him at the classroom hideout’s door. He hopes YoonGi doesn’t notice how flustered he is, but YoonGi doesn’t say anything beyond confirming that he’s heading home. SeokJin tries to strike up a conversation as they walk out together, but the conversation awkwardly fizzles out whether he brings up food or the weather. YoonGi points out that his phone is buzzing, and SeokJin’s camcorder falls from his bag as he looks for it. YoonGi waves him off when SeokJin films him to test that it still works. He sheepishly lowers the camcorder and forgets to turn it off. YoonGi breaks the uncomfortable silence when they are almost across the field. “Is something up? You didn’t look very happy earlier.” Heart pounding, SeokJin tries to laugh off this sharp question with an excuse, but YoonGi stares straight at him. “You’re awkward too, SeokJin.” “What is?” “Your laugh.” YoonGi pauses before continuing, “When was the last time you genuinely laughed?”
The scene fades back to the present in SeokJin’s car (15 April). He can’t make out the rest of their conversation in the recording or remember what he answered. He wonders why YoonGi asked him that. SeokJin was always tense then, afraid that his friends would learn of his meetings with the principal. Did the others notice, too? While he’s lost in these thoughts, someone outside shouts, “Fire!” Flames erupt from YoonGi’s workroom. Realizing he should have focused on YoonGi and not the video, SeokJin runs into the building. As he tries to open the locked door, he hears the glass shatter.
The fourth episode opens on the night of 11 April with SeokJin watching JungKook and YoonGi walk away from the construction site and towards NamJoon’s container. A few days later, SeokJin spots JungKook on the sidewalk on his way to YoonGi’s workroom. When asked where he’s going, JungKook avoids his gaze and replies, “I was just… walking around.” SeokJin knows this is because he has nowhere to go. Not wanting JungKook to keep wandering and remembering that he was once close with YoonGi, SeokJin invites him along. The perspective switches to JungKook as they enter the workroom. It reeks of alcohol, and YoonGi is fast asleep among empty bottles. “YoonGi… will be okay, right?” he asks. SeokJin picks up the bottles without responding. A memory from their school days occurs to JungKook. TaeHyung chased him around their classroom hideout, trying to snatch his sketchbook and succeeding when JungKook found his escape unintentionally blocked by YoonGi standing in the doorway. JungKook was dismayed when YoonGi called TaeHyung over to the piano so they could look at it together, but then YoonGi deceived TaeHyung and threw the sketchbook to JungKook. In the present, SeokJin doesn’t want to waste time while YoonGi sleeps. He taps a lost-in-thought JungKook on the shoulder and says they should leave, but JungKook responds that he will stay until YoonGi wakes.
Back again at the classroom hideout, SeokJin hunts further around the piano. He uses an old mop handle to fish out a piece of paper from underneath it. The hidden secret turns out to be TaeHyung’s abysmal math test. Dejected, SeokJin slumps to the floor. On this level, he notices a small handle on the piano’s lower panel and uses it to pop off the cover. Faded music sheets are wedged into the piano’s frame. A phrase on one of them catches SeokJin’s eye. (함께 라면 웃을 수 있다 : The Korean is not translated in game, but Google translates it as “if we are together, we can laugh.” This recurring phrase is instead translated as “we can laugh when we’re together” in The Notes 2. In YoonGi’s 2 August Year 22 entry, he also reflects on finding the note written in the margins of the music scores he took from the classroom. The handwriting isn’t his own. Additionally, a similar sentiment is expressed in a line of You Never Walk Alone, which is the basis for one of the BU-inspired Graphic Lyrics books.)
This message reminds SeokJin of YoonGi’s question: “When was the last time you genuinely laughed?” “This moment is the answer to that question,” he thinks, initiating a flashback to 20 March Year 19. The boys gathered around HoSeok in the classroom, chattering excitedly about the new club he’s leading. TaeHyung jokingly called him “Mr. President.” HoSeok told him only members could call him that before asking YoonGi if he wanted to join. “I’ll allow you to join without an audition, but only you.” TaeHyung exclaimed that he was just trying to get YoonGi to call him president. “Oh, it was obvious?” HoSeok chuckled. “Acting up again, huh?” YoonGi spoke up from the corner. The memory fades, returning to a pensieve SeokJin. He clearly remembers YoonGi’s face as he laughed with the others. “When did we stop laughing? Did it start that day, when I ruined everything?” SeokJin wonders. “It’s my fault,” he says aloud, standing there with the sheet music in hand until the sun begins to set. (Note: the date of the memory may be a typo. On 20 March Year 20 in The Notes 1, TaeHyung overheard SeokJin in the classroom informing the principal of the trouble he and YoonGi had gotten into. SeokJin realized that NamJoon heard it but not TaeHyung, who remained hidden out of sight and then pretended not to know. It’s not impossible that this memory really occurred in March Year 19, but most of them had only met at the beginning of that month.)
On the night of 15 April, SeokJin follows YoonGi at a distance from his workroom to an alleyway bar. (It is possible but not entirely clear that this is the same day SeokJin found the sheet music at the classroom, which is why I did not specify the date earlier.) It appears that YoonGi visits this bar often since the owner asks him if he has money today. SeokJin sits at a table behind YoonGi and watches him knock back shot after shot. Deciding that he shouldn’t leave him alone any longer, SeokJin musters up the courage to join him. YoonGi doesn’t look surprised to see him. He smiles before looking down again. SeokJin attempts a natural conversation to catch up. YoonGi asks why he didn’t come along the night when everyone got together at NamJoon’s container. “It’s been awhile since we’ve all seen each other, and JungKook… Never mind. You were probably busy.” SeokJin apologizes and inquires how JungKook is doing, then turns the same question on YoonGi when he replies that he doesn’t know. “Anything new with you?” SeokJin presses when YoonGi avoids his gaze. “Well, as you can see.” YoonGi dodges a direct answer.
The restaurant owner brings them a second glass. They are quiet in a restaurant full of chatter. SeokJin brings up the past to break the awkward silence, asking if YoonGi remembers the day they walked out of high school together. “Why do you ask?” says YoonGi. SeokJin explains that he remembered what YoonGi said to him that afternoon. “I want to ask you the same thing you asked me then.” SeokJin is nervous but continues, not wanting to waste this opportunity. “When was the last time you genuinely laughed?” YoonGi is silent for a moment. “Who knows.” SeokJin encourages him to think about it. “What good is it whether I remember or not? It wouldn’t change things now, even if I remembered.” YoonGi’s refusal to express his feelings upsets SeokJin more than his indifferent tone. “I just wish he would open up to me so I could figure out… anything. If only I could tell him,” SeokJin thinks. His internal narration continues over a shot of him in high school looking at his phone: “Or maybe… If I went back further in time, mustering up the courage to protect my friends, and prevented YoonGi from being expelled. If I did, maybe now we’d be…” “What’s with that expression?” YoonGi’s voice snaps him into the present, and he stares at SeokJin the way he had when they walked home from school. “Nothing, just… I feel like it’s been a while since I last saw you and I’m wasting time with useless subjects. It’s nothing—” SeokJin tries to laugh it off, but YoonGi interrupts. “You’re the same as always… There’s something there in your expression, but you say that it’s nothing.” This remark hits hard, rendering SeokJin speechless.
YoonGi’s words echo in SeokJin’s head even after he arrives home later that night. How did YoonGi notice what SeokJin thought he kept well-hidden? He once viewed YoonGi as someone who was indifferent to the world and trying to distance himself from everything. It dawns on SeokJin that he is mistaken. He opens his camcorder, hoping to see something new with this changed perspective. A recording plays in which he, YoonGi, and JungKook are the only ones present in the classroom hideout. When YoonGi starts playing piano, JungKook gets up from the desk and carefully stands by him. YoonGi doesn’t seem bothered and continues to play. Suddenly, he stops. “You wanna try?” In the present, SeokJin wonders why he asks JungKook that out of the blue and replays the footage, feeling like he missed something. This time, he notices that JungKook begins chewing his nails before YoonGi asks him. “Can I?” says JungKook. “Why not? It’s not my piano or anything. You can play if you want to.” At YoonGi’s words, the color returns to JungKook’s face and his hands drop from his mouth. SeokJin watches a little more of the video. As the recorded YoonGi patiently corrects JungKook’s wrong notes, he realizes that YoonGi doesn’t merely ask JungKook to play on a whim but out of respect for him.
SeokJin turns his attention to his box of photos. The player can choose up to three to examine. SeokJin realizes that YoonGi is a little further behind the group and not looking at the camera not because he feels left out or is avoiding attention, but because he is always watching how they are all together. YoonGi knows us very well, he thinks. He stopped JungKook from biting his nails by asking him to play the piano rather than acknowledging it directly. He saw through SeokJin and recognized when his laughter wasn’t genuine, even after several years apart. SeokJin thought that YoonGi wanted to give up everything, would never open up to anyone, and experienced feelings that were impossible for him to understand. “But if we were the ones to make YoonGi laugh… It may be possible to save YoonGi,” SeokJin reflects. With more determination, he vows to save him. “I’ll save him no matter what, because we can laugh when we’re together.”
SeokJin visits YoonGi every day after their meeting at the bar, responding that he’s making time to see him when asked if all university students have this much free time. They grow more accustomed to each other’s company, but SeokJin’s glimmer of hope fades as alcohol and aimless wandering continues to fill YoonGi’s life. Since just visiting YoonGi’s workroom seems meaningless, on 24 April SeokJin decides to show him the sheet music he found in the hideout, hoping it will encourage him to resume songwriting. Upon seeing the music, YoonGi has a flashback to 25 June Year 20, the day he received the school expulsion notice. He ran immediately to the classroom and played the piano as though possessed. The anger refused to settle. He shoved all of his sheet music into the piano and vowed to never play the piano again. In the present, YoonGi asks, “Where’d you find this?” At his cold expression, SeokJin wonders what he’s done wrong and explains aloud that he just happened to find it in the hideout’s piano. The papers fall from YoonGi’s hand, scattering across the floor. “Leave,” he spits. “What? Min YoonGi, what’s going on?” SeokJin asks. YoonGi shoves him. “Just leave.” “Don’t do this, let’s talk for a moment,” SeokJin tries again. But YoonGi replies, “I have nothing to say to you.”
YoonGi avoids him after that. On 25 April, SeokJin calls him numerous times without any answer and finds only torn sheet music and empty bottles in his workroom. He remembers YoonGi’s last words to him and says aloud, “It can’t be. No way.” An ominous thought crosses his mind, but he forces it out to focus on recalling something from memory. The story cuts to him running down a street, trying to figure out where YoonGi went to set the fire in the last loop. (It is never clarified what SeokJin’s “ominous thought” is—it may refer to YoonGi setting a fire or possibly even a suspicion that YoonGi figured out SeokJin was involved in his expulsion.) SeokJin finds the same motel (the one with the sign like in the I Need U MV) and rushes upstairs in a cold sweat. Faced with a hallway of identical doors, he doesn’t know how to locate YoonGi’s room. Whether the player chooses for him to call out to YoonGi or “think of something else” (which results in him pulling the fire alarm), the result is ultimately the same. SeokJin forces open the last closed door with a fire extinguisher, but the room is empty. Filled with regret, SeokJin wonders what he has done wrong. “Like an idiot, I… I knew that the location and method of YoonGi’s attempt could change, and yet…”
“Fire!” someone yells. The motel across the street erupts in flames. “No! Please…” SeokJin begs, falling to his knees. “How can I stop this tragedy? … Am I not enough to stop it?” The story ends as he hears the glass shatter once again.
Additional Thoughts
For me, JungKook’s arc really draws back the curtain on SeokJin’s private life. It demonstrates SeokJin’s challenge to balance saving his friends and maintaining his own daily life, particularly fulfilling the duties that fall to him as a prominent assemblyman’s son. We see little of this side of him until The Notes 2, when his perspective has already drastically changed.
JungKook’s reflection about his habit of walking along the edges of walls is an interesting moment of self-awareness. This “tightrope-walking” is depicted frequently in the MVs.
The car accident and loop reset at the beginning of JungKook’s 4th episode suggests the possibility that the I Need U MV depicts JungKook deliberately stepping in front of the oncoming car rather than accidentally. (Maybe people have already interpreted it this way, but personally the thought had never occured to me due to how it’s shot and acted.) The car accident is a recurring theme in the loops for JungKook, particularly as he is struck the night of 22 May and comes to believe that it was SeokJin who hit him.
This internal dialogue of SeokJin’s from YoonGi’s arc gives me a lot to think about: “If I went back further in time, mustering up the courage to protect my friends, and prevented YoonGi from being expelled. If I did, maybe now we’d be…” SeokJin’s first experiences of the time loops are depicted in the Save Me Webtoon. At that time, he believes that 11 April is the date that he can begin fixing things, but it’s not clear if this ability granted by the cat-like creature truly gives him control over to which date the loop resets. (It is more obvious that he cannot control what triggers the reset itself.) Does he ever go back earlier? Only *ahem* time will tell, but if you want some more food for thought, please check out these interesting quotes that occur before 11 April Year 22.
As mentioned above, the following “tl;dr” commentary summarizes the parenthetical notes I provided in the summaries in case you want to review them on their own.
The Boy on the Threshold — tl;dr commentary
SeokJin’s flashback to 3 March Year 19, when all seven boys arrived late on the first day at Songju Jeil High School and were scolded outside by the Dean, looks very similar to the BTS Begins Middle Scene VCR (aside from the absence of extra students), including the detail of YoonGi arriving last. This VCR predates official BU content.
The photo in SeokJin’s collection that catches JungKook’s eye resembles the shot in the Euphoria MV at 5’32” (the seven boys sitting on a wall with the ocean behind them) except that they appear to be wearing school uniform shirts and slacks.
JungKook’s flashback to the night of 7 April Year 22 expands the context of his reunion with YoonGi, adding that he is drawn to the music shop by a familiar tune and through its broken window sees YoonGi playing piano. YoonGi doesn’t notice him when he staggers outside, and JungKook tries to play the music by memory. In his 7 April Year 22 entry of The Notes 1, YoonGi is drunk and stumbling by an empty construction site when he recognizes a clumsy piano tune that he’d been playing “not long ago.” But when he runs to the music shop and finds JungKook, the text does not indicate that he remembers this is his second visit to the shop this evening. Additionally, the Wings short film First Love seems to reference some of the events of this night—or evokes YoonGi’s distorted memories of it, mingled with a representation of JungKook’s later accident.
I mentioned in part 1’s introduction that every episode’s ending is identical regardless of the decisions made by the player, but the end of episode 4 is actually cosmetically different (a wobbling camera/animation effect) if the second path is selected for the last choice. The dialogue is the same.
The end of episode 7 depicts the seaside observatory. This is a key location on 22 May Year 22, recurring in The Notes and depicted in the HYYH On Stage: Prologue short film and Euphoria MV. It looks the same in the game.
The End of His Gaze — tl;dr commentary
The motel sign at the beginning and end of the story matches the one visible in YoonGi’s shots of the I Need U MV.
When searching the classroom hideout for clues on 15 April, SeokJin identifies his father's name alongside the message “Everything started from here” on the graffitied wall. He first saw this note in his 25 June Year 19 entry from The Notes 1.
Episode 3 presents a memory from both SeokJin’s and YoonGi’s perspectives of the afternoon that they walked out of school together. Although the date is unspecified, this event is also referenced in YoonGi’s 2 August Year 22 entry from The Notes 2 and the similar Note accompanying Map of the Soul: 7.
On his second attempt at searching the classroom, SeokJin finds sheet music that was hidden inside the piano. A phrase written in the corner of one paper catches his eye: 함께 라면 웃을 수 있다. The Korean is not translated in game, but Google translates it as “if we are together, we can laugh.” This recurring phrase is instead translated as “we can laugh when we’re together” in The Notes 2. In YoonGi’s 2 August Year 22 entry, he also reflects on finding the note written in the margins of the music scores he took from the classroom. The handwriting isn’t his own. Additionally, a similar sentiment is expressed in a line of You Never Walk Alone, which is the basis for one of the BU-inspired Graphic Lyrics books.
SeokJin has a flashback of 20 March Year 19 in which the boys are excitedly chattering about HoSeok’s new club. However, given the larger context of this moment (both in the past and what prompts it in the present), the date of the memory may be a typo. It’s not impossible that this memory really occurred in March Year 19, but most of them had only met at the beginning of that month.
Did you learn anything new from these stories that I did not specifically mention? Let me know in the replies or tags! Please stay tuned for part 3, featuring JiMin and HoSeok’s stories.

hey mama XXVI
Kim Y/N was alright. She was fine. And she was, finally after nearly four years, over her ex. Kind of a hard task when the ex in question is more or less plastered everywhere.
Jeon Jungkook here, Jeon Jungkook there.
And it didn't help much that her sister was Kim Yu-Ri, singer of the rookie girlgroup 'moonshine'. So when her sister's band is supposed to collab with BTS...things might go south.
Oh, and there was this minor detail as well: Jeon Jungkook can never EVER find out about three year old Kim Ri-Ah. His daughter.
part twenty-six: previous l next
“Oh my god”, Jimin gushed as he saw Y/N, with Ri-ah next to her, enter the room. “You two are adorable”, he blurted out, then smiling a bit awkwardly.
“Thank you”, Y/N chuckled. Quickly scanning the room, kind of a lounge area in the dorms apparently, with all the members of Bangtan and moonshine sitting around. A round of ‘hello’s and ‘welcome’s followed as the two walked further in. Jungkook jumped up from the couch, making his way over.
“Hey”, he grinned at Y/N, a fond look in his eyes, before hugging her close.
“Hey you”, he then shifted his attention to his daughter who was seemingly confused by all the people in the room, most of which (basically every man) was already looking at her with heart-eyes. Ri-ah looked up, a big smile etched on her face when she recognized Jungkook and lifted her arms to him.
“Jungkookie!”, she squealed, giggling happily as he picked her up and settled her on his hip.
Y/N shook her head, laughing softly. Every time they met Ri-ah reacted as if she hadn’t seen him in months. It was adorable, really.
“Hey bitch”, Y/N turned around, her sister standing next to her. “Yu-ri! Not that kind of talk when Ri-ah’s around!”, she scolded her, but hugged her briefly.
Yu-ri snorted, “It’s not like she heard me, mama bear!”, she laughed, “she’s way too busy being doted over by her so-called uncles.” She jokingly frowned, even though she was kind of jealous of having to share Ri-ah’s attention with six more people, she couldn’t help but smile at the sight of the six superstars all standing around Jungkook and Ri-ah, playing and laughing with her as she sat on her dad’s hip.
“She’s going to be absolutely spoiled by them, isn’t she?”, Y/N sighed, looking at the group all piled around the little girl.
“Oh for sure”, her sister said, Ji-so and Su-ha nodding in agreement next to them. “Absolutely, no question”, Su-ha chuckled.
Namjoon pulled his gaze away from Ri-ah, his gaze switching to Y/N and the other girls. He smiled politely, “It’s great to meet you, Y/N. I’m Namjoon”, he introduced himself.
Y/N grinned at him, always the polite leader. “It’s great to meet you too! Jungkook has told me so much about all of you”, she told him, walking closer to them.
“Oh shit, I’m so sorry, Ri-ah just stole our complete attention”, Jin grimaced, also sending her a welcoming smile, “I’m Jin, the oldest.”
“And WWH, WorldWideHandsome”, Jimin joked behind him, “I’m Jimin, by the way!”
Y/N didn’t know how to tell them that, of course, she knew what their names were. They were BTS for god’s sake.
“Taehyung!”, the tall man right next to Jungkook said, barely pulling his eyes away from the little girl on the maknae’s hip. “Nice to meet you!”, he added.
Y/N nodded awkwardly and opened her mouth to interrupt the introduction because, really, there wasn't a need for it.
“I’m Hoseok, but you can call me Hobi!”, J-hope added, just as Yoongi introduced himself as well. They laughed softly and Y/N smiled. “I- Thank you, it really is nice to meet all of you as well.”
Jungkook giggled loudly, walking over to her and rubbing her shoulder. “The introduction was unnecessary as hell though. Do you really think I didn’t tell her about y’all? Trust me, she knows all of your pet peeves”, he smiled mischievously and the other members groaned.
“Damn, Kookie! How are we supposed to get on her good side now?”, Jin muttered, hanging his head. Y/N laughed.

Everything’s Alright. Right? ; Kim Namjoon
Requested?: Yes, “Hi, I read your Jimin fic with a foreign person and I wondered if you could do one of Nanjoom meeting for the first time the family of his Mexican boyfriend. I don't know if you can do it? please” Pairing: Kim Namjoon x male reader Word Count: 1134 A/N: M/N is mothers name and F/N is fathers name. Also it’s 3 in the morning so I hope this is alright for whoever requested and whoever reads. Also shout at to the person that let me badger them with questions, you know who you are an you’re a real one, thank you :))
If you had asked what Namjoons biggest fear was a couple months ago would probably say his pants falling down in the middle of a performance at the MAMAs. Ask him now though and he would tell you meeting his long-term boyfriends’ parents would be the thing to strike him dead if he did the slightest thing wrong.
“Joon stop shaking”
“I can’t, we’re late. Your father going to kill me”
“And my uncles will hide your body”
“This isn’t a joke Y/N”
“I know, I’m just trying to make you relax”
“By saying your father and uncles are going to kill me? What about the boys I can’t leave them!”
“Seokjin can lead them”
“Oh god no”
Namjoon scrunched up his face at the thought, beside him, driving, Y/N laughed. After months of avoiding his family about his boyfriend he finally gave in. So here they were, sat in the driveway trying to look fine for the other. Namjoon fiddled with the stems of the flowers he brought, looking out the window to the fairly large house that sat in front of him. Y/N sighed before putting his hand on Namjoons thigh and giving it a pat. “Word of warning. Don’t bring up politics” at that he got out the car, Namjoon wordlessly following.
Namjoon let out a shaky breath after Y/N knocked on the door, Y/N turned his head lightly a laced his fingers with Namjoons free hand, with a light smile Y/N said "Now you know how I felt when I met your parents." Their attention was brought back to the door when they hear a crash come from inside followed by a colourful choice on words. "You know what? Maybe I should just-" Y/N said before turning the handle to let themselves in. Namjoon took in his surroundings as he removed his shoes and jacket. The place felt warm and homey, relaxing him a bit. Y/N stuck out his hand for Namjoon to hold once again and dragged them both toward the kitchen where the clattering of pans and the mouth-watering smell of food could be found.
"Ama!" Y/N chirped, causing the smaller woman to jump and drop a spatula down onto the kitchen surface. "Y/N!" the woman cried in return making Namjoon jump and step back slightly, his nerves getting stuck in his throat again. As the older woman released Y/N from her bone crushing hug she locked her eyes with Namjoon, who quickly looked at the floor before slightly bowing then shaking his head and sticking out his hand with a nervous laugh. "Hello. I'm Namjoon." He said as she gently shook his hand, his eyes still trained on the floor. "Yes, Y/N's talked about you a lot. I'm M/N. Are those for us?" She asked, gesturing to the flowers that Namjoon hugged to his body like they would disappear the moment he lets go. Y/N giggled at his shyness and chuckled at the thought of what Jimin would say after Y/N told the boys what Namjoon was like.
After M/N placed the flowers in a vase and adjusted them she asked the two boys to place the cutlery down. "Where's Apa?" Y/N said leaning over the counter to see what his mother was doing, "He's outside with the grill." She huffed coming back up with some warmed soft-shell tacos. Namjoon had once again become fidgety and had taken a great interest in his ring. Y/N sighed, he knew how much strain Namjoon had put on himself recently with the new comeback and preparation to make a good first impression. "Joon," Y/N called gently pulling on his black jumper till they were pressed together, looping his arms around Namjoons waist Namjoon settled for cupping Y/Ns face, his thumb subconsciously stroking the apples of Y/Ns cheeks. Before either one could break the comfortable silence the sliding door behind them squeaked shut. "Mijo!" a man called out happily before becoming serious and confused, "You're early. Why are you early?" he looked at his wristwatch before giving the small boy a hug. "Actually, apa we were late, but it looks like you guys are later. Is the meat even cooked yet?" Y/N laughed as his dad clipped him lightly around the ear. "Is the meat done?" he scoffed, "of course it’s done that’s why I'm back in here. Ah this must be Namjoon." he said turning his attention to Namjoon who again was fiddling with his ring.
After the awkward introductions and stiff handshakes, they settled into dinner. "This is Y/Ns favourite. Oh, I hope you enjoy it, I should have asked what you normally eat." Y/N snorted and finished his mouthful. "Don’t worry. Joon could eat a whole cow to himself." Namjoon felt his ears go red as he heard M/N laugh, Y/N winked before taking another bite of his meal and humming in satisfaction. "So, you're one of those dancing boys?" Namjoon looked up to see F/N looking right at him, Namjoon cleared his throat, "Um yeah, I'm the leader of BTS." he shifted uncomfortably under the watchful eyes of F/N, Y/N placed his hand on Namjoons knee under the table and gave it a gentle squeeze urging him to look up. F/N laced his hands in front of him, "So you make the music and control the rest of your group?" Namjoon shook his head, "No, there's a team of us that work together to make music and choreography each song. We also have people behind the scenes that look after us when we are either overseas or home. Our company and fans are like a family." Y/N rubbed Namjoons arm before leaving a small kiss there, they smiled at one another before they heard a cough. M/N had begun to stack the empty plates in front of her, as Namjoon went to open his mouth to ask if he could help she said, "Well it looks like Mijo has found a lovely man who won’t be hurting him any time soon, don’t you think cariño?" F/N smiled at the boys and let out a mock defeated sigh but then he smirked, "Now you just have to meet the rest of Y/Ns family."
It was late by the time the two said their goodbyes. Namjoon decided to drive them home as Y/N had started to doze off on his shoulder. "See? My parents aren't that bad." Yawned Y/N. Namjoon let out a soft laugh has he navigated his way out of the neighbourhood not taking his eyes off the dimly lit street. "I never said they were Jagi." A comfortable silence fell over them as the radio softly played, Namjoon rested his free hand on Y/Ns thigh. "Joon?" Y/N mumbled. Namjoon hummed in response.
"I love you"
"I love you too."

Inception - Chapter Two
Description: As an omega, Hongjoong was always treated wrongly in his pack. So when he is forced to be with an alpha who wasn't his mate he runs away. With little to no idea on where to go. With a small hope of finding his mate.
Character: ATEEZ, EXO, THEBOYZ, etc
Pairing: Ateez x Hongjoong, Hongjoong centric
Warning: Mentions of blood, violence, etc
Hongjoong woke up to various voice whispering. Well at least they were trying to whisper it seemed. But it was loud. "No! He is sleeping with me!" A loud voice stated. He heard a hiss and a sound of someone smacking someone's head followed by a whine. "Shut up you idiot." Another voice said. "Look he is waking up." he heard Mingi's voice say. Hongjoong sat up slowly rubbing his eyes. He looked around seeing all the seven alphas standing around the bed looking at him. His face flushed. "I-is there something wrong?" He asked in a small voice, shyly. "No no nothing is wrong! We were just watching you-" a short hyper alphs spoke up but was cut off by yeosang whose ears were red probably out of embrassment. "We were just looking over you." Yeosang said in a better words. "Alright! It's about time everyone introduces themselves!" Mingi spoke up.
"Hii! I am Choi San! I love plushies. And I love you too." the alpha with cute dimples, San, introduced himself. His words making Hongjoong blush. "Hello! I am Jung Wooyoung! The sexiest man well werewolf. At least in this household. Pleasure to meet you my mate." the alpha with deep beautiful eyes, wooyoung, spoke up doing a sexy pose. Yeosang shooked his head. "Don't mind him. He is..... crazy." Yeasang said making Wooyoung whine and Hongjoong giggle covering his face with his little hands.
"I am Jeong Yunho. The happy virus! Will you go out on a date with me?" The tall alpha with a goofy smile, Yunho, said. Putting his hand out like a prince asking a princess for a dance. Hongjoong placed his hand on Yunho's playing along. "I would love to." He said blushing. His heart beating wildly. Mingi coughed looking at Yunho with a funny look. "Anyway I am Choi Jongho. I am the strongest here. I will protect you forever hyung." Jongho said a bit shy but also looking bold and confident. "I am Park Seonghwa. I won't call myself a head alpha. But I am the oldest here. And I lead these childrens." Seonghwa says snorting when Yunho complained about how they were not children.
"I am Kim Hongjoong. F-From Dark Rose pack. I was born in 1998. Uh... and I don't really have anything to say." Hongjoong says looking down. "You are the second oldest here then! You are the same age as Seonghwa and Yunho hyung. Remaining of us are younger." Wooyoung says with a silly grin. "Come on. Let's get you something to eat. I made some braised chicken. With Seonghwa hyung's help." Yeosang says. Jongho helps Hongjoong get up from the bed. They all went downstairs and into the kitchen and let Hongjoong sit down on one of the chairs as they also sat down around him on the dining table while Yeosang went to serve the braised chicken to Hongjoong along with rice and some side dishes.
"Eat up. You need to gain more energy." Seonghwa says with a smile. Hongjoong looks around unsurely. "Are you guys.. not eating?" He asked. "No. Why? Want to eat together?" Yunho asked. "It's just.. in my previous pack they don't let me or other omegas eat until the alphas do. I mean most of the pack does that. So.." Hongjoong trailed down. "That's so cruel! We don't do that here! Don't worry. We eat whenever we want. Wherever we want. It's doesn't matter hyung." San says. Hongjoong starts eating, a bit shy being surrounded by seven alphas. This was all so new. He had never been looked at in this way. With so much love and care. It was almost overwhelming. But he liked it.
Mingi leans down wiping the corner of his mouth while he was eating. "You got some sauce there." The younger giggled. "Hyung is so cute." Wooyoung says as he leaned down on his arns watching Hongjoong making the omega turn beet red. "I am so glad that you are our mate. We can't ask for anything more. You are perfect." Seonghwa says with a kind smile making Hongjoong's heart flutter.
After tons of compliments, teasing and funny arguments Hongjoong finally finished eating. He offered to do the dishes but Jongho, the maknae didn't let him. "You don't have to do anything. We can handle this." He younger had said as we went away with the dishes to wash them. Hongjoong could only pout feeling bad for making the younger wash them. "Okay! Who wants to go out! I want to run. And also go to meet Jongin hyung and others!" Yunho hollered. Everyone agreeing. "Who is Jongin hyung?" Hongjoong asks looking up at Mingi. "He is our brother, well cousin brother. We are a part of the same pack, Aurora. They just live in the different pack house. Our territory is spread wide. There are many of us in different pack houses. And we have a name for every pack house. For example we are called ATEEZ. Jongin hyung is from EXO. They were the one who started all this. They gathered around our cousins and close friends and made Aurora. There is also a pack house named BTS. And also THEBOYZ." Mingi explains. "You are going to meet them today! I am sure they will love you!" Wooyoung says.
"I will go with you all?" Hongjoong asks. "Yes of course. We are going to run together." Yeosang says. Hongjoong's eyes sparkled at the thought. "Really! Yay! I am happy. I was never allowed to go outside. But I can run with you all today." He exclaims happily but the others froze. "You were allowed to go outside?" San asked frowning not knowing what to think about it. "Yeah. They never allowed me to run with them. The most I could do was stray inside or around the pack house. They never let me go into the woods. At least since 5 years." Hongjoong said, a sad look on his face. "Oh goodness." Seonghwa mumbles surprised. "It's okay now. You can go with us everytime you want to." Yunho says.
They all got ready to go. They put their extra clothes in bag, one bag for each one of them. They went out of the house turning into their wolf forms. Hongjoong look at how almost all his alphas had black fur. They were giant. Bigger than him. And no doubt stronger. He was shy as he changed into his wolf form too. The others looking at him. His wolf had white fur in contrast to the seven alphas. Yunho howled a bit as he walked towards Hongjoong nuzzling his head against the omega in a loving manner. Seonghwa barked signalling everyone to get ready for the run. All of them had the bag which contained their between their jaws. Seonghwa started running, but not too fast towards the west. The others followed him including hongjoong. They goofed around even in their wolf forms in order to make Hongjoong feel at ease.
After twenty minutes, which seemed short considering they ran very fast, they reached a huge pack house. Seonghwa led them towards the small outhouse they had outside where they changed back into their human forms putting on the clothes they bought with them. Hongjoong was blushing red looking at his alphas. He put on the clothes Wooyoung packed for him. He put on the black pant first. It was comfortable to wear and just his size. Next he put on the white sweatshirt which was a bit bigger. And it probably belonged to Seonghwa considering it had seonghwa's scent on it. "All done?" Seonghwa asked. Everyone nodded. "Our joongie hyung looks so cute." Mingi squeals pinching hongjoong's cheeks leaving the omega pouting.
"Let's go then." Yunho says excitedly. They exited the small outhouse. They walked up towards the huge house, seonghwa ringing the door bell. The door was opened by a tall man with huge but cute ears. "Welcome everyone! Come in! Come in! I see we have someone new today. I have a guess on who he is." The man said letting them in looking at hongjoong and giving the others a cheeky smile. Hongjoong was holding the back of Yunho's shirt as he stood behind the tall alpha hiding himself out of shyness and also from the way he felt so nervous. Other people came down the stairs. Hongjoong looks at them, his eyes falling on one of the male who was obviously pregnant being held by who he assumed was the mate.
"Wow Hyung. How are you feeling? Is Jongin hyung still being annoying?" Yeosang asks the pregnant omega teasingly causing the omega to grumble. "Chanyeol and Baekhyun are more annoying than anything. And I don't know if I want to stab them or spare them." the omega grumbles. They all went to the spacious living room. "Introduction first!" San says leaning his back against the large couch. Everyone introduced themselves to Hongjoong. He relaxed realizing the others were really nice and welcoming. "So who is the new addition we see?" Beakhyun, the omega also the mate of the alphas Chanyeol and Sehun asked, referring to Hongjoong. Seonghwa wraps his arms around Hongjoong's shoulder gently. "He is Kim Hongjoong. Our mate." He says. "I knew it!" Chanyeol hollered clapping. "Our you say?" Minseok who was the oldest and also omega asked. "All seven of them are my alphas." It was Hongjoong who answered. Lay, the beta who was the head alpha's mate gasped. "Oh my god. That's wow... Goodluck handling these seven rowdy pups." He said jokingly. "Which one is your previous pack Hongjoong?" The head alpha Suho asks. "Dark Rose." Hongjoong answered looking down. He was not proud of the fact that he was from Dark Rose since his uncle took over. His uncle was the reason the pack had a bad reputation.
He had half expected the others to judge him over the fact that he was a part of Dark Rose pack. But he felt a comforting hand on his shoulder. "I am glad you came out from that hell hole." Kyungsoo says. "Exactly. I don't know if we ever knew each other or so. But me and Kyungsoo also came from Dark Rose. It was long ago. But yeah we ran away there. And we met others after that. We understand what you must have gone through in that pack." Baekhyun says. "I am sorry." Hongjoong says. "Ayee why are you saying sorry. It's not your fault." Chen says. "The head alpha is my uncle. I am.. I am Kim Hakjoon's son. I was... I was supposed to take over the pack with my mate. But my uncle took away everything. If only I was strong I could have made it better for everyone." Hongjoong says as tears filled his eyes.
"Oh my god I didn't recognized you are Hakjoon alpha's son. You have grown so much. We have seen you in different occasions. Your parents were great leaders." Baekhyun says surprised. "Whatever happened. Leave those memories behind. Now you can have a new start and have new beautiful memories with all of us." Kyungsoo says as a sob escapes him. His pregnancy mood swings hitting him. Jongin hugging his omega quickly whispering comforting words. The sight made Hongjoong smile. Yunho noticing the smile on Hongjoong smiled too. He pulled the omega on his lap. Hugging him from behind. Wooyoung complaining at the side about how Yunho was hogging their baby all alone.
"Hongjoong as a welcoming party how about we have a hang out but only for us omegas and betas. Alphas can go do something on their own." Minseok suggested with a bright smile. "And here comes trouble." Chen mutters yelping when Minseok hit him while giving him a glare. "That would be great." Hongjoong agrees. "Okay then Suho do call the others to get their omegas here!" Lay says clapping his hand. Suho sighs as he calls THEBOYZ and BTS. Telling them about what happened. "Come come!!! We need to get ready for the hangout." Baekhyun says with a smirk. They all stood up. Hongjoong was led upstairs by the older omegas. "Hyung we expect you all to give us our omega back on time." Yunho shouted over them.
"Oh no. We don't have food ready. Omg there are going to be four hungry and pregnant omegas." Chen curses under his breath. "Minseok is going to have your head if he can't find his favorite snacks." Wooyoung said bursting out laughing. "You are gonna know the struggle one Hongjoong gets pregnant." Chen said with an eye roll. "So we shall get the snacks and food ready shouldn't we?" Jongin said. "Okay let's get back to work boys! We don't want angry, hungry and frustrated omega and betas today. So we might as well get to work." Suho said. They split their works and got to work to keep food and everything ready. Seonghwa and others were happy knowing Hongjoong was fitting just right in with the others. They all went to set up the large room upstairs where the omegas and betas usually hangs out when they are together. Every alphas in the house ready to make their mates happy.

Have you seen SADIE BEUGRE? DEL is in HER/THEIR SENIOR year. The MATHEMATICS MAJOR is 24 years old & is a CAPRICORN. People say SHE/THEY are GRITTY, BEWITCHING, RETICENT and WASPISH. Rumors say they’re a member of HASTINGS. I heard from the gossip blog that SHE BIT AN EX-BOYFRIEND’S PINKY FINGER OFF AFTER SHE FOUND OUT HE CHEATED, AND THEN HAPPILY SERVED TIME FOR IT.
im tommy im a freak and of course i am here to get freakalicious with u all... this is my newest frankenstein type creation named sadie i know .02% about her yet but i am more than confident she will b nothing but a fun time! like this if ur down to plot!
TW: VIOLENCE, MENTIONS OF JAIL/PROSECUTION, MENTIONS OF SUICIDE, DRUG USE
BACKSTORY
capricorn sun / virgo moon / scorpio rising
raised by her uncle Big (his name) who is a hermit shut in town local in the depths of the florida marshland like some goosebumps protagonist. hes gone far past socially acceptable in terms of his ability to connect with the modern person but is wise beyond belief... his whole vibe is a warped cross between a cryptid and a mountain man that forages and cooks neighborhood plants. married for 27 years before his wife passed from illness. its quite possibly the only thing hes ever been emotional about
but dels entry to his life throws a wrench in his sadness (despite abandonment being what they bond over). she takes the focus away from his loss with her presence; her dad, his brother, died in a tragic train-car collision around the same time (which is speculated to be a suicide bt nobody can ever really be sure). he was a single parent so her custody is thrown up in the air for a few months as cps decides what they r gna do with this freshly orphaned little scrapper
she just kinda turns up on his doorstep n from there they cohabit a space. shes arnd 6-7 at this time... big never seemed to b phased by the fact tht she was a child n tended to treat her more like an apprentice or guest. he was never close to her father because of their age difference, being the older out of the two, so to have his daughter become his responsibility is just..... weird
this doesnt mean that he wouldnt provide for her bt it was. not very parental whatsoever.... no conversation or interaction beyond what was necessary. she was a mute fr a while and still is? to a degree.... very short spoken
when she got to her preteens he offered her an allowance in exchange for little odds and ends of stuff to be taken care of around the house. errands n all tht.... sometimes he wld purposefully leave things for her to pick up n take care of without mentioning it for a bonus. taught her the importance of saving your money and the horrid corruptness of a society basing everythings worth off paper. big exposed her to a lot of knowledge and took advantage of her silent curiosity by fueling it with books, homeschooling, life skills (catching a fish, setting a trap, knowing your berries in the woods...... the works)
her teens carried out the same way bt with the introduction of a real job, a spot down at the local butcher shop checking people out at the register and helping around the back of house. del knows a great deal abt cow/pig/chicken/etc anatomy from her years here..... she committed to being 100% vegan into her early twenties because of her trauma frm this occupation
it paid very well tho n was the best gig she was going to get within a reasonable biking route from home. so she settled!
the plan wasnt to keep it up for long anyway. she worked rly hard for her spot at yates and didnt intend to ever screw herself over. her plan was to get her bachelors, masters, become a professor, pursue a personal hobby of agriculture and build an elaborate greenhouse to live in
bt things happen.....
some 35yr old douche with a green thumb woos her at a gardening store n swoops in to teach her a little more abt romance; all of this, of course, under the guise that he had all these tips and tricks for living environmentally friendly. a lame hippie wannabe that shouldve never even approached her bt alas.... he did
love is a touchy subject n it hadnt been something she set her sights on, but she was interested in wht this dude could teach her n at 19 she ended up falling in love. she delayed her education to stay an extra year back home and work out another plan which included him
this was very disappointing to her uncle bt he didnt have anything to say abt it. it was never parental before n it was never going to be, so this was another lesson she wld just have to overcome on her own
it turns out that she doesnt care for infidelity. when the confession comes out its met with a lot of screaming, bawling, blistering white hot anger. the whole incident is blacked out of her mind to b honest....
matters of the heart are no longer something to concern herself with because of the repercussions of her rash behavior regarding heartbreak O________O she spent a year in jail n still has to attend therapy / anger management meetings
deep down she is still hurting. there was a lot of pain... bt the sadness is not over the loss of some noob. she is in a state of constant disappointment, detaching from herself out of shame. putting her own life on pause only for it to turn out like that? stupid stupid stupid...
PERSONALITY
chugging along! tldr spectre-like swamp nymph aura with the slightest (not so slight) unhinged feral tendencies
delicate like a moth resting in the gleam of a flashlight.... her anger singes her wings when shes too comfortable staying in one place, so theres always constant stimulation, always shifting gears. shes prone to feeling threatened; that being said, sadie is wary of walking in crowds, a little bit skittish when approached without making eye contact beforehand. like a small grey kitten..... in a big wide world
has a hard time keeping a conversation bt is very interested in debate, and even more so in studying alongside someone in complete silence. it reminds her of home in the same sense tht her uncle wld nudge her to keep reading by always having his own book open
doesnt have many friends and is alright with that. rumors are tht she is still a virgin bt who really knows? not i...... bt i wldnt be surprised if this was true. shes not impressed by people nor material items so this whole yates crowd is a turn off
she is truly clueless when it comes to how to behave around anyone her age. i think she understands but it just doesnt compute. she could come off as impolite bt it is just standoffishness? some people cld try to crack her but i dont think even she knows what that would be, or what that would look like. even in her one (1) failed relationship it was never deep heart to hearts or sharing dinner..... solitude is her realm
del is very comfortable with herself, very open with her wardrobe! doesnt leave too much to the imagination? she appreciates the human experience n expresses that thru this whole “body is a temple” type thing.... not quite confidence, but proudness of being. has gotten multiple notices frm professors for her tops being too sheer, nylons too ratted up, etc. has dirt under her fingernails half the time, chipped polish, some chapstick. smudges her eyeshadow on with her fingers
doesnt smoke cigarettes all too often but is dependent on weed. it kinda perpetuates her paranoid demeanor bt at the same time it keeps her lax enough to be able to mentally handle city life
her room is a playground for huge monstera plants, christmas cacti, ivy creeping along the doorway. she sleeps on a tiny thin mattress on the floor with a linen sheet and has her books stacked up on the ground next to it to hold her ashtray. the whole thing is dumb empty
takes her studies seriously and pinches every penny she can..... she has never ordered herself a coffee frm somewhere before, ordered food frm a restaurant... nothing. i wld think the most she would branch out from harvesting everything on her own is buying a bag of sunflower seeds frm a gas station, but even then, she much prefers eating stuff she grows herself. has a tomato plant, some basil beginning to sprout, etc.... manageable crops for any college students tiny space
...
bt yea thats it thats all! connections cld be all over the place. im legit open to anything. theres only a few tht come to mind right off that bat:
a few people that get along with her? same classes? they shared a bowl n now theyre getting into the nitty gritty of some personal conversation that is veering into no mans land....
some sort of clueless makeover moment? arent rly into sadie as a person bt see a lot of potential... perhaps need a plus one to a party on the fly and figure thats the best option theyve got
crushes? this wld be fun n potentially dangerous! like playing with a hot cast iron pan or something :)
again im vry new to rp so i wld like to leave a lot of stuff up to chemistry, brainstorming n stuff like that, but please consider everything on the table! what i hav mentioned is the tip of the iceberg im so burnt out n i wrote a lot more than i intended to i am so sorry but i promise i am friendly

BNHA self insert AU Character info: Jin Matsui
Nani the heck is this? Read here!
Name: Jin Matsui age: 15 gender: Male sexuality: Cis-gender, Asexual quirk: Portal school: UA high class: Intelligence Courses (Secret Service section of the school, tho not canon, is a lesser known section of UA with small class sizes)
Likes: Memes, coffee, technology, eggs
Dislikes: Jump scares, bullies, the foster care system, butts
Quirk:
What it does: summon portals to transport self/anything/anyone from point A to point B
flaw/limit:
1) Max portal size is at 50,000 sqft before complete exhaustion. 2) point B portal destination can be anywhere in the world but never 100% the exact location (i.e. if he’s portaling to school, he’d end up in the middle of the school field instead of the front gate) 3) If being careless or not in the best mental state, point B is going to be a random location in the world.
About the family:
unknown since he was separated from his parents at 3 years old. All he knows:
he was the youngest of at least 8 children
he was born in Korea
his father was a wanted criminal that was responsible for the disappearances of heavy debt individuals in Korea and Mongolia
His mother is a suspected accomplice of the father’s crimes
Has an uncle on his father side that resides in Seoul but wants nothing to do with him because of his father
Combat techniques and preferences:
With his quirk, he makes a good mode of transport and escape but bad in combat. He’s more of the tech and detonate of the team. If put in a combat situation, his choice technique is kickbox-y and uses blades. Prefers to not to be put in the position to choose life or death UNLESS it involves Ita and/or Mimi, then he’d do anything to save them. Good at strategy but not on par with Ita, often you’d find them butting heads on what the plan should be.
About :
Son of criminal parents in Korea and youngest of 8, Jin didn’t grow up in the best household. When his quirk first manifested at 3 years old, he accidentally transported himself to Yougin from his discreet home in Suncheon. Wasn’t long before social workers found him and tried to reconnect him to his family. DNA testing lead them to his uncle in Seoul but didn’t want anything to do with Jin because of his criminal father. Since then he’s been bounced around foster homes and deemed unadoptable because of his anti-socialness. Though gifted and being well-behaved, people wanted an energetic and sporty boy. At 12 years old, he got placed in foster home with an abusive parent, so when he found the opportunity, he escaped with only his birth certificate, school ID, money from a pawned item he stole and a Japanese to Korean language book. He portaled himself to the nearest dock, snuck into an imports boat heading to Japan with some food rations and studied up on Japanese so he live his new life. Upon arriving, social workers in Japan couldn’t send him back since he entered under asylum so they worked around it and sent him to a Boys’ House (or ひきこもり housing) and enrolled him in Middle school. Being top of the class made him pursue to enroll in Intelligence Programs and got accepted to UA with full ride.
School life:
Similar to Ita’s academic test out of most general studies but english. Very good and studious, social circle limited to pretty much just Ita and Mimi. Everyone else in their class is alright to work with but always wants to be in a group with Ita and Mimi. Always the outlandish and extra one when it comes to projects. When doing quirk training, he has to monitor and track a ball with a tracking device to control the point B portal location. Likes to pull pranks on the upperclassmen, just because. Likes to party but not too hard with all of Intelligence kids. Prefers to type his notes than write them. Lived in a Boy’s Home until the introduction of dorms.
Uniform and Costume:
He just wears the uniform as it was meant to, nothing special to look different aside from a flag pin. For costume, he designed his to be long sleeved and full leg jump suit with touch screen compatible gloves, weightless slip ons and half face googles. Agent number (21) and flag on the front breast pocket. PE clothes are the same as Ita’s but with their last name and flag.
Fun details:
Often talks in memes and goes into random meme dance. Though seen as a kid genius, he craves affection and LOVES to be babied. Can cook and likes to cook for ONLY Ita and Mimi. Jin considers Ita and Mimi as his family and cares for them when they’re suffering. His background picture on his phone is the three of them getting trashed at the 1st kickback of the semester with their class (a classmate took the picture and sent it to him the next day). Toys with robotics and AI on his own time. Remember that lizard that ran into the class on the first day? Jin kept it as a pet and trained it to shoot a gun along with other stunts, he named him Zippy because ‘he go fast’. If he didn’t pursue being in the secret service, he would’ve gone for engineering and developing for practial robotics. Matsui isn’t his family name but a name of an appliance company that he adopted as his own as a young teen. When he gets sleep deprived (often with Ita and Mimi) at day 3 of no sleep, he doesn’t talk in any language, only in rythmic screeches and dance that only Ita knows to interpret.
===========================================================
Thanks for reading my lil character info on my babyboi Jin (uwu)! I based his character image off of Hobi from BTS (I’m not k-pop trash, theres a meme floating around of Hobi that says ‘please don’t eat my ass sprits’). Mimi will be next but after chapter 2. I have more OCs in this AU but more on them when they get introduced.
OCs: Itati * Mimi
Chapter 1 * 2

BTS Love Yourself Tour LA Day 2
~basically my experience at the concert before i forget everything cause im lowkey already forgetting parts of it~
~I love all of them but my bias is Jimin & my bias wrecker is Jin~
i actually wasnt planning on going to the concert but my cousin somehow managed to get a second pair of tickets even tho she already went on Day 1. Anyways my uncle asks if i want to go with her to the thursday show & I immediately say yes. So i basically only have 2 days to mentally prepare myself to see them after stanning them for like 4 years
Thursday comes, I go pick up my cousin & we get to staples around 5PM & theres so many people w/ BTS/BT21 merch. I meet up w/ my friend & the other person she went to the concert with & we chill around for a bit. I didnt have an ARMY Bomb but the other 3 did so i kept debating on getting it or not & i somehow i reasoned myself to get one.
Around 5:30 they start letting people into the venue but we’re confused on where to go & as soon as we get in I get separated from my friend but it didnt matter cause we had different seats anyways. Instead of waiting in the merch line outside I bought my lightstick from the store inside Staples where there was just a wall full of them & no line so that gave me no time to convince myself I didn’t need one. (But now im hella broke (πーπ)but having one made the concert so much better)
We go buy some snacks & head to our seats. I was so shook when I found out before the concert that we had P1 seats in row 1 but when we were actually there I was even more shook cause it was basically on the left side of the main stage in the area right after the people on the floor. By then we had 2 hours left before the concert started but they kept playing their mvs from War of Hormone era until Fake Love era on the screens (I wish that they played their mvs from before WoH & from rap line’s mix tapes). Even tho the same vids kept replaying throughout those 2 hours everyone kept screaming/singing & doing the fanchants. With only 30 min left before it started my cousin wanted McDonalds so i rushed out to get some & ate basically in 10 min. Then the concert started.
Basically throughout the concert I kept debating on whether I wanted to take good pictures, good videos, or just pay attention so i did a mixture of all 3. (Kinda wish that i only took vids & gave up on taking pics cause they weren’t that good & I was too focused on pics to give them all of my attention). So basically it started w/ a VCR of all the members & then fireworks went off & they walked out w/ outfits that made them look like princes & they started doing IDOL & it was so amazing w/ everyone cheering especially when the backup dancers came out for the last chorus part.
After they did IDOL they did their individual introductions & all of them were hyped & excited & cute & unreal & just ugghhhhh. I dont remember the order they went in & what they specifically said but i’ll just go through each members intro. I dont remember what RM said specifically but he had some of the loudest screams of the night & that continued throughout the entire concert. JHope did his “I’m your Hope!!!!! I’m your angel!!!!!! I’M......” & everyone responded w/ JHOPE!!!! & i think he said something along the lines of being excited to be back in LA but i think besides RM he spoke the most English during his time to talk. Suga did his dramatic standing there for a bit & took out his ear piece to hear ARMY scream for him & then did his intro. Jin did his flying kiss again for his intro!!! (I was kind of hoping he would have a little heart event thing like he did last tour where he took out random hearts) Jungkook’s mic wasn’t working so RM lent him his mic to introduce himself & he said “it’s been awhile” which has basically been going everywhere. I don’t remember what Jimin & V did or said but they were so beautiful IRL. & since Jimin is my bias i just kept thinking he looks so good w/ his ashy brown/blonde hair & contacts. While doing their introductions Jungkook kept trying to fix his mic & eventually had to go backstage to fix & when he came back all of them were like “Are you ready Jungkook?”
Then they did Save Me & I’m Fine. Watching them do this stage on like MCountdown or any of the music shows doesn’t give these songs & choreo justice & the transition between Save Me to I’m Fine was so smooth. Everyone did the fanchants w/ all their names & everything for Save Me. I was so excited to hear I’m Fine cause it was one of my fav songs off Answer cause of Yoongi’s rap & he went in on his part & it just made my life complete hearing his rapping live. They performed Magic Shop next & that was more fan interaction. They mostly stayed on the main stage & a little bit on the runway towards the extended stage. V & Jungkook I think kept looking towards our section/area & all of them kept waving their hands towards the upper levels. & everyone responded w/ “I’ll show you” when it was the “so show me” part. & Jimin’s vocals during his high note was sooooo goood
JHope’s & Jungkook’s VCR played next as they went backstage so I was getting hyped for the all the solo stages that were gonna be happening. JHope’s solo was first & just his dancing was amazing & it just looked like he was having a good time & he kept jumping around & throwing hearts but also dancing at the same time & he was just fluid while doing everything while singing & rapping his song. Euphoria was next & of course cause it’s the golden maknae so his stage was amazing. (I was tempted to do the ‘annyeonghaseyo joneun bangtan sonyeondan hwanggeum maknae jeon jungkook imnida’ meme thing that Byron started but i was way too focused on his stage + plus i would mess it up anyways) His stage really was Euphoria for me
They all came out w/ white outfits for their I Need U + Run stage. They actually didnt do the choreo for either song. I Need U was more on the main stage & as it was ending they went towards the extended stage where they did Run. Run was so hyped & they kept jumping & spinning around the ‘Run, Run, Run’ & they kept doing fanservice towards the pit area. I really wish that i recorded during this but i just ended up taking a bunch of pics. They just seemed really happy during this part & they kept smiling & everyone was extra loud during the English parts
Then it was RM’s & Jimin’s VCR & solo stage time. Jimin was so cute during the VCR & he came out & did Serendipity (the FULL VERSION) & I lost my shit for my boy. I knew he’s a good performer but seeing his dancing & singing just made it more real. He’s so fluid while dancing & his voice is amazing & just the amount of people that were singing his song made me so proud of him. His stage also had bubbles instead of confetti like some of the other members & it just made his stage more ethereal. He also had a part in the choreo that involved the floor & everyone lost their shit when that happened. RM came out w/ this long blue jacket that he lowkey kept making it come off one his shoulders at the start of his stage like Jimin’s “accident” during BST. But again everyone was hyped & we all did the “saram, saram, saram & I live so I love” His rapping was great & then his singing part came & we just lost it...but then we lost it again when the rest of the members came to join him for the last part of the song
Then it was time for DNA & then their medley of other songs. During DNA the fanchants were on point & Jimin kept throwing hearts around when it was his part & Jin did another flying kiss. They did a diff medley from Day 1 & this was their more lit medley w/ Attack on Bangtan, Boyz with Fun, & Baepsae, & Dope, which just made them more hyped & let them more fun on stage. Honestly they’re was so much going on it was hard to focus on everything but there are so many memorable parts. Like at the end of Attack on Bangtan they were all fanning Jungkook. Jungkook was doing the shoot dance on the runway towards the extended stage. Hobi was lit the entire time & there was time where he just kept dancing towards our section. Namjoon was also feeling himself during one of the songs & kept dancing. They were all just rude during Baepsae I can’t. & Jimin did another heart at the end of Dope
After that they did Airplane pt.2 & i live for the choreo w/ the mics. I loved the mariachi part + just when they kept naming all the different cities. & then it was V’s turn for his solo & he had the VCR to himself & he did the choreo w/ the coat & masks & his deep voice got me. They performed Fake Love & Jimin had an “accident” w/ his shirt & Jungkook was rude w/ his shirt lifting part & the fanchants were sooooooo goooooddddd again.
The last solo stages were Suga’s & Jin’s. Suga’s song is my fav out of the Trivias & he just started his stage by lying on a couch but then he got up & did his choreo & ooooohhhhhhh boooooyyyyy HIS RAPPING & SINGING OOOHHH GODDDDDD how can people say no one cheered for his stage the first day. Before Epiphany even started everyone was chanting KIM SEOKJIN & the stage opened up to him playing the piano. Just his vocals & high notes were on point that night. How dare BigHit deprive this man of the lines he deserves. There was a part were he was walking up the stairs to an elevated stage & everyone started chanting KIM SEOKJIN as he walked up them. & then he finished out his song w/ those high notes. Honestly Jin’s solo stage might have been my fav solo stage
The rest of vocal line came out & performed The Truth Untold. This was probably my favorite stage of the whole concert cause everyone was singing the entire song. Their vocals & harmonies were unreal & they were on this raised platform where at the end petals fell down on them & made them look ethereal. Rap lines turn was next & they performed Tear. Lowkey I didn’t know the lyrics to this song that much but I was still hyped. Then they announced their last song was Mic Drop & again it was lit again especially w/ that dance break.
Their ending VCR was played & everyone kept chanting BTS as we waited for their encore stage. We had ARMY Time & took out the slogan banners that said “if we’re with BTS, even an endless maze is paradise” They came out w/ ARMY Bombs & V had these huge glasses that I didnt expect for him to have & sang So What & Anpanman & they went crazy on stage again & at the end of So What they messed w/ Jimin’s hair & V kept patting his butt/side where his Army Bomb was. Anpanman = lit & fun. Jungkook was extra & did the thing where he laid down on the floor & didnt use his hands to get up
They had their final ment. They were talking about the banners we held out for them & leaned hella close towards the pit & Jin gave a thumbs up to the crowd when he read what it said. They kept saying ARMY was the best & we are their superheros. Again, I think Hobi spoke the most English during his time to talk & he had this little bag w/ his sticker on it & he asked if we wanted it & everyone yelled out YES!!! LOL & he said he was so happy for being there & for having 2 more shows. When it was Jimin’s turn he kept doing random poses when he saw he was on the screen & he thanked us for making their album #1 on Billboard & he did more hearts. Jungkook had this cute head bobbing thing as he listened to us scream & just thanked us again. Jin & his kiss thing AGAIN. He also had 4 mini ARMY Bomb rings on his hand that he was showing off & then Suga stuck his hand near Jin’s face to show off his Suga rings that he’s so proud of. Jin is as much a fan of ARMYs as we are of him. V talked slowly so that he could pronounce everything he wanted to say right & wished everyone to have sweet dreams. Suga looked so happy just looking at the crowd. He talked about a LA Dodgers player LOL & just said thank you. RM had the loudest screams during his final ment & he was flustered with the response. & the boys kept hyping him up & Jimin & V messed w/ his face & he had to quiet us down so he could say what he wanted. He talked about back in 2014 when V, Jungkook, & Jimin were handing out invitations to random people on the street to come to their show & KCON at Staples when they were only guests but now they’re here for their own show for 4 days cause of ARMY. Then they had their actual final song Answer: Love Myself & they kept waving their ARMY Bombs around so we could follow them. Then they each walked back towards the main stage & took their final bow.
This was soooo long. I didn’t expect to go the concert at all & gave up on trying to go months ago. But I guess I’m hella lucky. This just made me love them so much more & I wish I could go to another concert day or just another concert in general. I feel like I didn’t spend that much attention on Suga & Jungkook & I REGRET IT SO MUCH BUT I LOVE ALL OF THEM BTS I LOVE YOU 💜
