ABOUT:
Born and raised on a large ranch with open land meant Jacob's childhood was filled with adventurous memories. He and his younger brother Liam knew that, one day, they'd be trusted to take over the family business. The Moore family was very strict and proper, hailing from old country money and Jacob's father could be especially unforgiving. Still, Jacob became a dutiful and respectful young man who did his father's bidding willingly. There was only a little bit of resentment that built towards his father but never enough to tear the family apart. Frank Moore was just a traditional man, after all. Everybody was in the area they grew up in.
Jacob couldn't have been prouder when Liam joined the army and for a while sat back and enjoyed his brother being the golden boy, the one who's name was praised constantly in conversations. Jacob then saw how quick everything changed. When Liam was kicked from the army with a dishonorable discharge, suddenly he was no longer the favored son. It was made worse by his brother's struggle with the drink, eventually their parents considered him too much of a liability and cut him off altogether. Jacob, however, remained in contact even as Liam left for Atlanta to reconnect with his army brothers.
For a while, Jacob carried shame for not cutting his brother off, feeling as if he was disrespecting their parents' wishes. In the end, he wished he had never let them cut his brother out of the family at all as Liam ended up becoming a lifeline Jacob needed desperately.
Falling in love and starting a family is a typical story in a place like Cross Plains but Jacob new his parents weren't pleased that the woman he fell for was one of their ranchhands. He learned his lesson to not let his parents drive away the things he cared about and stood by Imogen's side even more determinedly. Becoming a father is still one of the best things that's happened to him and right now, is the only good thing that he has.
Not long after the birth of his son, the Moore name fell from its great height. All of his father's secrets were unearthed from the debts, the addictions and the tax evasions. For the five years that followed, Jacob watched everything unfold and crumble around him until eventually there was nothing left. He was expecting Imogen to run for the hills, especially after the suicide of his parents. Jacob didn't even have time to process their deaths despite being the one to find the grizzly scene of their bodies. The collectors and borrowers descended on him like vultures and Jacob had to make a choice. For the first time in his life, he ran. He packed what little he had left and made the move to Atlanta, going by Jacob Turner and flying under the radar until he gets some money behind him.
He hadn't realized his brother lost quite literally everything after their parents disowned him, not expecting to have to squeeze into Liam's small trailer with Imogen and little Tate. It's better than nothing he always says even though Jacob is suffocated more from grief, shock and guilt. He feels guilt for running, taking Imogen from her family, guilt for thinking his brother was just fine all these years and guilt that his son's life has been upturned in the blink of an eye. But, it's better than nothing.
