i keep coming back to you ch1
a/n welcome to the beginning of a new series! (and a special thank you to @themagiciansthief for beta-ing and basically saving this entire first chapter)
summary: As Adam is walking home from yet another tiring day at the vet clinic, he meets Ronan, a man with an unusual affinity for animals who is trying to save a little kitten. Their paths cross and their futures intertwine as they try to keep the kitten alive.
word count: 2.478K
tw: the kitten is in a bad state (read blood/wounds) so be aware of that
"Come on! Work with me here."
Adam Parrish did not have time for this. There was never enough time in his life. Not when he was in high school and struggled to make ends meet, not when he got into the university of his dreams and had to work his ass off to keep the scholarship he had so desperately wanted, and especially not now after a gruesome day at the clinic. Why he chose to be a vet of all things, he didn’t know, but he loved he job, just not the inevitable sadness that came with it. There was a saying he tried to hold on to during his training which said, “don’t get attached”. He repeated this to himself today when he had to put one of his favourite dogs down. It was an old one with soft brown fur that never failed to make Adam smile in the years he had treated him. Adam diagnosed him with cancer today and the owner, understandably, didn’t want to put this old dog through that misery, so they brought him to sleep.
Hours and more appointments later and Adam was finally able to head home and clear his mind to prepare himself for another too-early morning.
Well, that was the plan at least. Maybe it was his intrinsically concerned nature or just sheer curiosity. Either way, he found himself peering through the darkness and heavy rainfall to find the outline of a man hunched over a strip of trash cans.
"You're not making it easy on me, are you?" Adam heard, as he stepped closer despite himself. Why he was approaching a stranger in the middle of the night while it was raining harder than it had, in small-town Henrietta, in years, he didn't know. Maybe it was the desperation in the man's voice, the pleading tone it took as he continued to talk to something or someone hidden in the shadows.
"Do you need help?" Adam asked, keeping a safe enough distance that he could just make out a few details of the man, illuminated by the lamppost not far from where they were standing.
"There's a kitten here and I can't get to it," the man admitted reluctantly, finally turning to Adam to look him up and down. "But I don't think you can help me with that."
Fucking great.
"Is it injured?" Adam asked, moving closer to take a look for himself. There was a soft meowing that he could just hear over the sound of the rain hitting the trash cans. The kitten was shying away from every attempt he made to reach it, but Adam could see that it was unsteady, trembling from the cold.
"Wait here!" he told the man, and rushed to his car, which was parked close by. He opened the trunk and removed his gear, always readily available in case of emergencies. When he returned, the man eyed him warily.
"I'm a vet," Adam explained. "And I'm gonna need your help."
Adam set down a tray with some dry cat food on the ground in front of one of the trash cans and tried to shield it from the rain with a discarded lid. The kitten sized it up, reminding Adam of how the man had regarded him in the same distrusting way. He started murmuring to the kitten then, soft and soothing.
Little by little, the kitten took hesitant steps toward the food and sniffed at it. When it was deemed okay, the kitten began nibbling at it carefully. Adam extracted a miniature flashlight from the front pocket of his dress shirt and pointed it at the ground next to the kitten so as not to scare it off. He gasped audibly when he saw the state it was in. Blood coated its fur and open wounds were visible on its side flank.
"Jesus, Mary and Joseph," the man swore, taking in the state of the small animal as well. It was visibly bothering him—even Adam was bothered, and he saw cases like these more often than he cared to. He needed this man's help, though, so he switched into what Noah liked to call his "Vet State" meaning that his breath came out steadier, his voice was sure and he forced his hands to stop trembling from the cold.
"Hold the flashlight," he ordered the man. "Don't point it at the kitten, it’ll get scared if you do."
The man raised his eyebrows but complied. The kitten looked back and forth between them but seemed to see no danger, as it continued to eat.
Adam swooped in and smoothly but carefully and scooped the kitten into his hands. It looked terrified, but didn't dare move. Something in its eyes reminded Adam of himself. Something he had buried deep in the past but was threatening to come out with every second he spent holding this scared little animal.
"I'm gonna have to take it to the clinic," Adam said, placing the kitten in the travel bag he had already laid out. The bag was stuffed with blankets, which Adam placed the kitten on gently. He then took a handful of food from the tray and tossed it inside, zipping the bag closed and lifting it carefully from the ground.
The man didn't take his eyes off the bag. He studied it with concern, and made no move to leave.
"You—" Adam started and cleared his throat nervously. "You can come to the clinic with me. If you want?"
"Sure," the man said, obviously trying his best to sound casual, but Adam knew better. There was a hint of panic in his voice that Adam only ever heard with pet owners, not just random people who found kittens in the rain.
Who was this man?
Adam briefly wondered if it was a good idea to invite a stranger into his car, but despite the buzzcut and the sharp features—made visible by the passing lights of cars—he didn't look like he would hurt Adam in any way. He had to keep reminding himself that not everybody was out there to get him. Not everybody was a bad person. And with the concern the man had shown for the kitten, Adam knew he would be alright.
The car ride was silent, but funnily enough, not awkward. Adam was rushing through traffic and was happy he didn't have distractions—he had to concentrate on getting the kitten as quickly as he could to the clinic if he wanted to increase its chances of staying alive.
"What the hell are you doing back?" Blue demanded the minute Adam walked through the door.
"Emergency," Adam said, before disappearing into the surgical room. It was a precaution, but Adam predicted some kind of surgery would be necessary. The kitten did not look good. Now, under the bright, fluorescent lights of the clinic, he could see that the kitten was in a worse state than he’d thought. It was still crying, even when Adam laid it on the table, which Adam recognized from experience as a cry of pain. He cooed soothingly as he set up for surgery, something he was sure now was absolutely necessary.
The clean smell of the room always put Adam at ease, even in the most stressful moments. It reminded him that he was here, that he was alive. Even if it often brought a type of pain to his chest he could only recognise at the familiarity of picking at old wounds.
He hardly even noticed that the man and Blue had followed him into the room .
"I keep you updated the moment I know more," Adam promised, ushering the man out quickly
"I'm staying," the man said resolutely, crossing his arms in front of his muscular chest like a petulant child.
"You really can't," Adam said apologetically. "I'm sorry, sir. It’s policy."
Blue eventually kicked him out with a sneer that matched the man's perfectly. If he hadn’t been in the middle of such a dire case, Adam would've laughed. Blue was one of the kindest people he knew, but she was not nice, and he loved her for it. There was something funny and disorienting about such a small woman who could look threatening enough to scare a big, muscular, heavily tattooed guy away with the raise of an eyebrow.
"Adam, you're overworking yourself," Blue said to him, her gentleness a stark contrast against her interaction with the stranger.
"It's an emergency, Blue," Adam repeated. "What was I supposed to do?"
"You don't have to do everything alone, you know."
Adam sighed and smiled at Blue tiredly. "I know."
Blue finally took a look at the surgical table and frowned. She reached out slowly in attempt to pet the kitten, but it wouldn't let her, trying to wriggle away with the minimal energy it still had.
"It's so small," Blue said worriedly, turning away only to begin gathering sanitary equipment and surgical tools.
"I know," Adam said, inspecting the kitten as best as he could through the matted blood. It was still squirming around, but it seemed as though the willpower to do so was draining quickly.
"I might need your help for this one," Adam admitted sheepishly.
"You got me," Blue replied. They got to work. Blue and Adam laid out everything they might need within a hand’s reach. The pressure of time was tangible, the kitten had so little life left. Adam felt a rush of adrenaline, one he felt often before he started surgery. It was something that grounded him and got him some of the most gruesome ones.
Washing the kitten was their first priority—they couldn't take chances with getting bacteria in the open wounds that littered its skin. They then had to dress the wounds and check for other injuries, which led to the discovery that the kitten didn't want to be touched on its left paw. Blue pointed out the swelling surrounding the paw, and they wrapped it in a splint.
There wasn’t much they could do while there was so little life left in the kitten. They would have to wait until it had recovered to at least some degree before they could go through with the surgery. The kitten wouldn't survive otherwise.
It was two hours later when they finally left the operating room. The stranger was still sitting in the waiting room, which surprised Adam. He’d thought the man would've given up and left by now, but here he was. His head was leaning against the corkboard filled with posters about healthy pet diets behind him. He was breathing softly, sprawled out in a cheap, plastic chair.
The man looked softer like this. The harsh lines of his face had faded away, and he suddenly looked much younger. Much more approachable.
Adam gently shook him awake and asked if they could discuss everything in his office. The man complied, following behind him groggily. There wasn't much furniture inside, but the room was overflowing with scattered stacks of books, and there were various leaflets strewn across his desk. With the amount Adam worked, he didn't have much time to tidy up.
Adam gestured to the seat in front of his desk and sat down in his own chair behind it. The man looked uncomfortable and impatient; his eyes were darting around Adam's office, and it was starting to make him feel self-conscious about the state it was in.
"My name is Doctor Adam Parrish," he told the man, holding out his hand.
"Ronan Lynch," the man said back, eyeing his hand with an expression Adam couldn't read. He took it slowly and shook once before letting go. Adam pretended his hand didn't tingle when he pulled back.
"Well, Ronan," Adam started, rubbing his forehead. "The kitten is stable, but we're going to have to keep her here just in case something goes wrong. We have her on IV fluids now to strengthen her."
"What happens to her after?" Ronan asked, worried lines etching into his otherwise smooth forehead.
"If nobody wants her, we have to put her in an animal shelter."
Ronan shot up out of his chair before Adam even finished his sentence. "You can't fucking do that!"
"Sir—"
"Don't ‘sir’ me, you're gonna heal her and then just throw her away like it's nothing?" Ronan’s eyes on him felt like fire burning through his skin. He would've stepped back if he wasn't still sitting.
"We're a clinic," Adam tried to explain as calmly as he could, but something in this man was making his blood boil,  and he wanted nothing more but to push back until he pushed too far.
"So?"
"We can't keep animals here, okay?" Adam said, growing more and more frustrated. "I wish we could, but we can't. So unless you take her—”
"Done," Ronan said determinedly.
Adam stared at him for a second, his mouth falling slightly open before he corrected himself. "You mean you'll take her?"
"Yes, Parrish, I will take her."
"Taking care of a kitten, especially one who isn't healthy, is not easy," Adam said carefully. Truth was, he really hoped Ronan would take her. Adam wasn't someone to whom trust came easily. It took time and much more effort anyone else had to make. There was something about Ronan, though, the big man who had looked at a little animal with so much care it made Adam's insides ache. But he had to be sure. He couldn't give the kitten away to someone who wasn't up for the task.
"I can do it," Ronan said resolutely. "Where do I sign?"
"Nowhere, yet."
Ronan sighed and looked ready to throw himself back into battle, but Adam raised a hand to calm him down. "We need to see if she makes it through the night first. Then we have to take some tests, vaccinate her probably. She has a long way to go."
At Adam's words, Ronan's body relaxed back into the chair. Adam bit back a relieved smile.
"You can leave your number." Adam picked through his desk and found an empty sheet of paper. "We'll be in contact with you."
Ronan pulled his phone, with a heavily cracked screen, out of his pocket and searched for his number. Adam tried to look at anything but at the way his eyelashes were feathered across the tops of his cheekbones. The softness of his lashes was a sharp contrast to the harsh lines which etched out the rest of his face.
When Ronan handed back the piece of paper, Adam's hands stayed at a safe distance from his.
"I'll see you later, then." Ronan smirked, his lips curling up for the first time since they had met, and walked out of the office.
Adam felt himself sag against his chair. He was definitely in for something he wasn't even remotely prepared for.

Fuck Him
Something I’ve been wanting to write that @wearesurvivxrs gave me an excuse to do by asking for it >3<      “We’re square.”      “Then get the fuck out of my town.” Bill’s voice almost broke, but he stiffly turned his back.      Expression carefully stony, he opened the door to what was once a post office. Behind him, Joel walked back towards the truck and the girl that had almost gotten them killed. The truck that had gotten Frank killed.      His spine went rigid.      Sparing no glance to the team behind him, he threw his bag into the dark building and followed it inside. The glass rattled as he slammed the door and, breathing heavily, he pressed his back to it. His emotionless mask twisted into a look of sorrow. There was no sound except for his labored breath and the idling of the engine outside, the crackle of tires on loose pavement, and then just his breath.      “Was that how you fuckin’ felt, Frank?”      Once he was sure they were gone, he sank down to sit on his ass. His breathing hitched. The weight of the last few hours pressed down on him in a way that he could hardly bear.      I want you to know I hated your guts.       “Well f-fuck you, t-too-”      He didn’t need the letter- the words, written in Frank’s untidy hand, were burned into his memory. Your stupid town. Set-in-your-ways attitude. Wanted more. You were right. Better than spending one more day with you.      A hand covered his mouth but a cry broke past it. Frank’s dead, sunken face was stuck in his mind.  Tears filled his eyes and that was it.       Everything he’d been holding in came crashing out, loudly and messily. Not giving a damn if the infected heard him, he curled up over his knees, sobbing into his arms.      “Fu-fuck you, F-Frank!”
On some level, he’d known his partner- fuck it, no one was around- his lover was dead. Not just gone, dead. He’d imagined it four-hundred ways just last Sunday. But seeing his body strung up like that... it was all too real. Frank was gone and he was never coming back, died because he wanted to get away from Bill.       “Goddamn idiot!”       Sobbing openly, he wiped at his eyes even as grief tore through him. His shoulders shook, his ribs ached, his lungs heaved. He cried with his entire body, rocking. They hadn’t been perfect, but they’d been something. And now they were nothing. He was alone. Joel and Ellie were going... somewhere far, judging by the fact they risked his life for a car, and Frank was...      He could see Frank’s face, sad but excited, when Frank told him he was moving away. He could see Frank’s face, disbelieving and relieved, when they found each other in Pennsylvania. He could see Frank’s face, furious and exhausted, after their last argument.      He could see Frank’s face, gray and shrunken, laying on the floor in that house.      His kukri dug into his hip and ripped it from it’s holster, hurling it across the room. The metal clanged across the floor and, tearfully, he looked up to follow it. Night had fallen, and the weapon was hidden in shadow.      Sniffling, wheezing, he turned on his flashlight. The blade on the floor glinted, and he tried not to think of the smile Frank had worn when he’d gifted it to him.      Resolute, breath still quivering, body still aching, he got to his feet. He wiped the tears and snot from his face as he grabbed his bag, shouldering it. He sniffled and set his jaw as he snatched the kukri off the ground and slammed it back into it’s holster. He only halfway listened for infected as he strode out the back door and turned towards the bar. The one stray clicker that tried to bother him had it’s head blown off, and he was gone before anything else reached the sound.      Slamming the door of the bar shut behind himself- just barely remembering to relock it- he threw his shotgun down on the bar. Nearly crying all over again, he raked his fingers through his hair, pacing furiously.      “You hated my guts, huh?! My way of doing shit?! Of keeping us safe?!” He swung out a foot at one of the bar stools, cursing as his toe connected with it and it went tumbling across the room. “Stole my battery, stole my shit, stole my he-” He choked back the words, sobbing all over again, and cleared the counters with a scream.      Turning towards the windows, moonlight streamed in between the cracks in the boards. His eyes were drawn to chess board sitting, untouched for years, on the table. Bearing his teeth, his expression twisted from anguish to anger. He leaped at the table and overturned the board in a violent motion. Chess pieces scattered across the table and off of it, clacking as they hit the wall or landed on the floor.      “Fuckin’ got yourself killed, you bastard! Just fuckin’ like you, too!”       Shotgun forgotten, he ran from the bar. He could hardly see, but that was okay. They’d cleared this section of the town only hours earlier. The worst danger he would be in was tripping over one of the infected corpses.      He could barely see to open the locks in his way, and only remembered to lock them again through sheer force of habit.      Winded and crying all over again, he thundered down the stairs into the cellar. The sound of the doors slamming shut echoed around him. No light penetrated the darkness except for his flashlight and the lantern, which had burned low. He ignored it, blindly grabbing items from the pile. Items that had been theirs, memories tied intrinsically to Frank that he just couldn’t get rid of. Comics and magazines Frank had shown him with a laugh. Cassettes they had found then listened to all night long for some variety from their voices, their breath, the ominous creak of settling buildings.      Arms laden with poisoned memories, he marched up the stairs and stormed through the sanctuary upstairs, to where the window was still open to the world.       “Together til the fuckin’ end, huh?!” Comics and magazines went flapping into the air. Cassettes clattered across the roof and rained down onto the ground, but he was already jogging back downstairs. The closet under the stairs was his next target. Boxes of Frank’s shit and shit from frank were stacked inside. He tucked two under his arms, and a bottle of whiskey, and stomped back upstairs, where he grabbed fistfuls of things and threw them outside with various ragings against his lover. A shot of alcohol went down his throat for every fistful of garbage that went out the window. “I would have done...”      He froze, choking on his tears, as his fist found a heavy book. His heart twisted into painful knots and he almost threw up, because he knew what was inside.      Taking the book and his mostly-empty bottle, he stumbled to his room, nearly falling the whole way. He didn’t so much fall into bed as he did crash into bed. He landed on his pistol, and weaseled it out of his pants while nearly spilling his whiskey. The gun landed, heavy, nearby. Moonlight glinted off the surface, but he ignored it, blurry vision focused on Frank’s old book.     Opening it with surprising care after the violence he had displayed to Frank’s other possessions, he flipped to the spot marked by a faded Polaroid. Himself and Frank beamed up at him, arms looped over each other’s shoulders, Lincoln’s town sign peeking out in the background. A simple heart was sharpied in on the white border, a B and an F on either side. Out of tears, he could only sniff and huff as he stared at the photo, grief narrowing his vision to a single square.      “T-til the end, huh?”      His hand exchanged the whiskey bottle for his pistol.

Elorcan Werewolf AU Part 5
Sometimes I wish I could paint my perfect character and bring him to life, stripping him of his own mind and molding him with my own expectations; when reality sinks in I’m stuck along a maze that leads to an ocean to drown in. — Ea
“I closed my eyes and talked to you in a thousand ways”
Elorcan Werewolf 5
Lory brushed against Elide before she could reach the door, and she gave into stroking his warm fur. His ears twitched back and he rolled onto the floor, showing his belly. She laughed and scratched his belly, the underbelly holding the softer fur.
Her canine companion slightly growled when a slight knock resounded at the door. Ignore it, he seemed to say.
Elide kissed Lory’s head, much to his dismay, and skipped to the front door. “I’ll be right back.”
She opened the door with a broad smile on her face. A male with gray eyes and dark hair stood in her doorway, holding bouquet of pink roses tied together with a yellow ribbon.
“I’m Nox,” the male said, nervously shifting on his feet, offering a somewhat hesitant smile. “The one Manon set us up with.”
Elide gave him a sunny smile and held her door open. “Welcome, Nox. You must know I’m Elide.”
He gave her a smile, dimpling, and Elide couldn’t help but smile. She guided him to the kitchen where Nox handed her the flowers. “Red seemed too deep, you know? So pink. And then yellow for happiness.”
“I love it,” she chirped.
Nox helped her place them in a vase, filling it halfway with her kitchen tap water. She found the lack of conversation comforting and appreciated how Nox didn’t barrage her with questions past dates had done. When they finished, Nox glanced at her. “I had planned a walk at Central Park and then a garden picnic afterwards, but on my drive here, storm clouds broke over.”
“On this side of the city, the weather is renown for its bipolarness.”
A cheeky grin. “Like females in general?”
She lightly slapped his arm. “We can stay in for movies and popcorn, if you don’t mind?”
A slight shake of head. “Not in the slightest. Do you—”
Lory let out a bark that meant he wanted attention and barreled into the kitchen. A red rose was slipped between his teeth. He skidded to a stop, cocking his head at Nox. He slowly sniffed the air, and gave Elide a betrayed glance.
Elide rushed to him with outstretched arms. “Lory, this is my Valentine’s date, Nox.”
His tail stopped wagging, and she swore Lory’s eyes darkened into feral pitch-black. When she blinked, Lory spit out the rose and knocked down the front door, abruptly barreling into the woods.
Nox cocked his head. “Is she temperamental?”
Elide choked. “Lory’s a male.”
She retrieved the rose from the floor and slipped it into the vase, even though a small part of her wanted to retrieve a separate vase for the single, thornless rose.
Elide let him go. Lory would return. He always did.
Nox, she realized, was an easy person to get along with. He had a younger sister who loved painting and dreamed of attending Juilliard. Nox was finishing his masters degree in dentistry at a respectable college.
He was perfect, charming, and absolutely one hundred percent average. Borderline dull, but perfectly safe and average.
Elide told herself she could deal with it. She deserved someone sweet, even if that notion meant normality. The mundane signaled security.
Nox squeezed her knee. “You okay? I’m not boring you, are you?” He cocked his head. “The reason Aelin sent me is because I focus on my studies more than anything else. And if I want a relationship, it has to mean more than a fling. So while I am enjoying this date and getting to know you, and this may be early, I need to know if your inklings of thoughts follow.”
She nodded, and set the empty popcorn bowl on the table. “I’ve never really dated anyone, so I have nothing to compare to.”
Those gray eyes widened. “You would have turned everyone down, because there’s no way not another single wouldn’t have asked you out at least.”
A blush spread on her cheeks. “I just—” Wanted to save myself for my mate who turns out to not even like me. Who didn’t want to wait for me. She needed normal now. She could deal with a human. Werewolves and humans intermixing was not uncommon, as long as the pair ordained permission from one of the Lycans.
Elide knew she wouldn’t be asking Lorcan.
She shook her head. “I don’t even really know.”
Nox took the bowl to the sink and started rinsing it. Casting a look out at the stormy clouds that hung blearily, he said, “Shouldn’t you look for your dog now?”
A sliver of guilt ran through her. She’d almost forgotten about Lory. “I will.” She grabbed a sweater from her room and stepped out onto the porch.
Seconds later, Nox joined her, those eyes analyzing his surroundings. “Does your dog have a favorite part of the woods?”
Elide swallowed back further shame. She’d never wondered where Lory went, as long as he came back. “No. I can’t keep up with him when he bolts off.” That much wasn’t a lie.
“So he bolts off often?”
“Yes.” Elide studied the line of trees and walked down the narrow trail, clutching her jacket closer to her frame. A slight wind started picking up with hint of frost. The clouds thickened and darkened. “Lory!” she called.
Nox reached for her elbow, pressing a flashlight into her hands. “We’ll just stick on the trail so we won’t get lost.”
She nodded, and picked up her pace, flicking her wrist with the flashlight. “Lory?” she called.
The wind howled in protest, and she felt her shadow and the darkness loom over them. A chill ran down her spine, and her flashlight flickered. The faintest sounds reached her ear drums, but no snap of the twig or scratch of the claw filled the empty, streaming air.
“We should go back inside,” Nox said.
She put her hands on her hips. “I am not going back in without Lory.”
Nox tapped her flashlight, which went off. “It’s not safe. Lory’s chances of survival are higher in the woods as a wolf rather than you. Wait until morning and search again if he’s not already here.”
She stared at him. “What did you say?”
“Elide,” he said exasperatedly. “Go home.”
“No—you said wolf.”
She saw him blink. “Yes, wolf. What, did you think that large thing was a dog? I’m surprised you even managed to tame one. It’s a full moon, Elide, where wolves run with the moon and claim what’s theirs. Your Lory must be out there. And if you’ve managed to tame him as well as I think you did, then he will come back.”
Elide didn’t sleep well. She’d offered her couch to Nox before he left just in case he wanted to wait out the storm, but he merely waved a hand and said he’d crash at a nearby hotel, not wanting to intrude — and to call him if she wanted to look for Lory in the morning.
She had pulled back her curtains, staring at the full outline of the moon and its light shedding down on them. The clouds had rolled over, but the wind had persisted, blowing in great breaths and heaves that shook against her windowpane.
She missed Lory curled against her bed. She missed his warmth and his presence, and the comfort of another’s existence rather than utter silence and her own self. Maybe a trip to the city with Aelin and Manon was in order.
How’s your Valentine’s Day going? She sent down the pack link.
Manon immediately replied. Watching Alpha Dorian do the walk of shame.
I did not need to know that.
I really am going to reject Rowan, Aelin said a few moments later. Right in the middle of clearing our differences he runs out the door and flees out of my pack territory like a bird shot out of hell.
Tell him he’s a pussy, Manon suggested. It’ll keep him on his toes.
Elide rolled her eyes and tried to force herself into sweet oblivion, but none came. She needed Lory.
So she pulled a bathrobe tight over her nightgown and ventured into the woods, armed with two flashlights.
As soon as Lorcan had reached a good distance from the rutting house, he shifted. The dark abyss of power he hadn’t touched in weeks and months welled up inside of him, yearning to be unleashed. And he did, his own power and rage fueled by the full moon. His inner Lycan side had demanded to mark Elide right then and there and rip apart the guts of the human who had dared to charm and touch his Elide.
He felt Rowan’s wind summon and reach against his dark walls. Before he could stop his intrinsic side, his magic had erupted at the touch, thinking the wind as a threat from restless peacefulness of domesticity. His magic tore from him and slammed against the wind and throbbed around Lorcan, pulsing and beating larger with each second.
“What the fuck,” a snarl tore out of Rowan’s lips as his ass was knocked back several feet. “Fucking attack the rogue, not me.”
He could feel Rowan’s magic testing him, seeing if he was possessed. His own magic flexed back, sweeping through his friend’s defenses easily in demolishment, his specialty.
“There is no rogue werewolf,” Lorcan snapped, flexing his aching back muscles.
His other friend rolled onto the balls of his feet, staring at him in disbelief. “Then why the Hell did you call me to get my ass over here? Aelin and I were—”
“Elide is with another male.”
Rowan stopped, and the wind died. Silence fell upon him, and his fists clenched. Then— “you interrupted my time with my mate just to whine about yours?”
The darkness flared out and pulsated around Rowan, threatening to suffocate him. “I cannot claim her without her despising my existence further.”
A snort from Rowan. “It’s not like you can go to her anyways with her on human lands.”
Lorcan’s face remained oddly stoic. The dark slowly retreated at thought of Elide, his beautiful werewolf mate addicted to sweetened coffee and milk chocolate, and prone to little ramblings that too-often touched his heart.
Rowan swore. “You found a loophole, didn’t you? You went in wolf form. Goddammit, Lorcan. She didn’t see your true Lycan side, did she?”
“Do you take me as an idiot?” he snapped. “Just my weakest wolf shape.”
“Then fucking get your ass back and chase the human off.”
“She constantly seeks companionship, and I constantly chase them away. If we do not have her today, my Lycan will end up fucking another girl.” And I cannot do that again, not that now I have found her.
Rowan’s face twisted. “You think I care right now? You left me with my mate on a full moon when I thought you were near death.”
“I am, you fool—”
His friend lunged out, his Lycan side snapping into place. Cracking noises filled the air as both Lycans turned, teeth snapping. Wind rushed and slammed against Lorcan, who immediately shot up his shields. Coldness spread throughout the dark, seeping and attempting to find a weakness to crack.
Finding none, Rowan let out a roar and lunged forward, and Lorcan met him head on. He knocked Rowan to the side, biting down near his neck, but he rolled away, launching off Lorcan’s own back as they tumbled. As soon as they hit the tree, they disentangled, pacing around one another.
Rowan let out a startled bark, and let out a huff. He dropped to his haunches, and Lorcan warily stared at him, his ears flattened and jaws open.
Lorcan, Rowan’s Lycan wolf of silver streaks and black whorls panted not from exertion, but amusement. There is a pink collar around your neck.
So? Lorcan growled out, ready to leap again. The dark was ready to maim and attack his friend in the name of Elide. The fight with another Lycan would also be needed to release the pent up stress that had accumulated.
The other wolf’s ears flopped back, and he released a short breath in exasperation and amusement.
I didn’t know that was your type of thing, Lory.

Batteryless Flashlights, Or Occasionally Known As Forever Flashlights
As the name recommends a Batteryless Flashlight jobs without any demand of batteries. One can likewise call it as the permanently flashlight. These kinds of flashlights require to be drunk back and forth for couple of seconds as well as they will certainly provide light for several mins, often also hours. The highlights of these Batteryless Flashlights are
   1) Never needs any kind of batteries or light bulbs
 2) Now with magnet as well as tether band
 3) Compact and also water immune.
Probably the most significant attribute is that these flashlights are rechargeable any time.
   · Magnetic Batteryless Flashlights
The product Magnetic Batteryless Flashlight is the cutting edge among the batteryless flashlights. One simply has to shake the flashlights for one minute and also you will certainly rise to 2 hours of light from this magnetic batteryless flashlight. These flashlights have 3 incredibly intense LEDs which produce blue white light that aids us in seeing plainly in the dark.
There is a high field toughness magnet inside these flashlights, that relapse and also forth inside a coil of copper cord, as we shake it to produce electrical power. This power after that gets stored in a little capacitor. The stored energy in the capacitor after that powers the high illumination white-light LEDs.
It is sensible to turn the switch off at the time of shaking the flashlights for billing. If the switch is not switched off then pulse with the power spikes originating from the coil can be seen in the LEDs. The operating button of these batteryless flashlights is resilient and intrinsically safe. These flashlights lights are very light in weight as well as are totally developed to be water resistant. They are likewise completely mobile.
   · Dynamo kind Batteryless Flashlights
An additional type of batteryless flashlights is of eager beaver type. These were the earliest modern technology among the batteryless flashlights. These sorts of flashlights have little fold-out cranks as well as we need to wind on for some time so that we can use the light once again. In Dynamo type flashlights, by winding the cranks for a few mins, a sector gear starts to relocate causing a small pinion equipment to rotate which drives a PM dynamo. The eager beaver generates electric power which is utilized to light the LEDs in the batteryless flashlights. For several years there have actually been dynamo kinds flashlights around that the world those work by squeezing a bar manage. Dynamo type battery free flashlights are quite trusted than the regular battery lights.
   · Batteryless Flashlights evaluation
The Batteryless flashlights are generally utilized for emergency situation function. These flashlights sometimes come with integrated in FM radio. The major advantage of this Batteryless flashlight is that they are definitely maintenance complimentary. These flashlights can be stored for long periods of time without the worry of leaking batteries. In case of battery powered flashlights they typically have their battery get in touches with loosened & dbecome inefficient, but the batteryless flashlights do not go dead as you are miles far from residence late in the evening.
The main disadvantage about these batteryless flashlights is that they are not as bright as most various other battery powered flashlights, but thats a little cost to pay as they are infinitely brighter than any various other battery powered flashlights whos batteries are drained of energy or their bulbs are damaged or stressed out.

LED Road Flares – The Ultimate Life Saver From Road Hazards
The road we drive in is prone to many kinds of dangers and road accidents are most common of them. Accidents can happen any time of the day and night and the people drive in the road need to be aware of the danger so that they can deal with the situation without causing any further mishap. An LED road flare certainly makes a better road hazard maker in comparison to the flammable flares which are being prohibited by several states. It warn us about the ongoing road work, moving trucks or other road hazard ahead which eventually save us from any unexpected dangers on the road. The amber safety light is certain to get noticed by drivers and other commuters.
Not like flashlights with alkaline batteries or light sticks, led road flares can manage extreme temperatures and also can be employed in HAZMAT situations (intrinsically safe),and boast a remarkable ten year storage/shelf life, using lithium batteries that won’t leak at all. Furthermore, LED Road Flares do not produce flames, smoke, or harmful bi-products. Plus it is shatterproof, rainproof and it can float so you can take it anywhere.
They can be used for traffic control, as a warning light, as a rescue beacon, and for any other emergencies. They can also be used for recreational activities such as camping and hiking. Since they are water proof they can be used on rainy weather and marine applications as well. The most important thing is led flares can be used in places where old-fashioned flares would be dangerous, such as in dry brush or in the presence of gasoline.
As these flares are portable in nature they can be easily carried around, ready for any emergency. The flare emits a full 360° of ultra-bright light and has lateral illumination. As the light can be noticed for up to 10 kilometers it is ideal for emergency response teams as well as individuals. Its tiny size makes it easy to carry while cycling, driving or hiking. Engineered to be used in emergency situations, the led flare is so tough and it can even survive being run over with a car! These small warning emergency flares are also shock, vibration, and water-resistant.
Today you can easily come across many china manufacturers offering these sorts of warning lights at a pocket friendly price. The best thing is you can buy these LED flares online.

“... We’re square.”      “Then get th’ fuck outta my town.” Bill’s voice almost broke again, but he stiffly turned his back. He couldn’t deal with the sympathy on Joel’s face, the pain. He couldn’t let himself feel anything. He would not let Joel to see the pain that he was in. He told himself that Joel hadn’t already seen how many times he’d nearly cried today. He told himself that Joel didn’t give a shit. It was better that way.     Expression carefully stony, Bill opened the door to what was once a post office. This was a safe way back into town; that’s why he’d had Ellie drop him off here. From the post office, it wouldn’t be much trouble to get back to the bar. From there, the path was clear to his church was clear- he and Joel had made sure of that earlier.      Behind him,  he could hear Joel as he walked back towards his truck and... the girl that had almost gotten them killed. The truck that had gotten Frank killed.     His spine went rigid. Nausea gripped him, grief.     Sparing no glance to the team behind him, he threw his bag into the dark building and followed it inside. The thud, the rattle, as it hit the ground was oddly comforting. The glass of the door rattled as he slammed it. Breathing heavily, he pressed his back to it. His emotionless mask twisted into a grimace of sorrow. There was no sound except for his labored breath and the idling of the engine outside, the crackle of tires on loose pavement, and then just his breath. The rumble of thunder in the distance, vibrating through his bones.     “... Was that how you fuckin’ felt, Frank?”     Once he was sure they were gone, he sank down to sit on his ass. His breathing hitched. The weight of the last few hours pressed down on him in a way that he could hardly bear. Frank was gone. Actually gone, dead. Not coming back. Not somewhere he could save. The last fucking thing he had left, gone.     I want you to know I hated your guts.     “Well f-fuck you, t-too-”      Bill didn’t need the letter. The dispassionate words, written in Frank’s untidy hand, were burned into his memory. Your stupid town. Set-in-your-ways attitude. Wanted more. You were right. Better than spending one more day with you.     A hand covered his mouth but a cry broke past it. Frank’s dead, sunken face was stuck in his mind. He couldn’t stop hearing the thump as his shriveled body hit the ground. He could see the way Frank’s body sprawled on the floor.      Tears filled his eyes and that was it.       Everything he’d been holding in came crashing out, loudly and messily. Not giving a damn if the infected heard him- the thunder, the rain, drowned him out anyway- Bill curled up over his knees, sobbing into his arms. Emotion tore through him, clenching his lungs, tightening his throat, turning his ribs as unmoving as steel. He couldn’t breathe. Weight pressed down on him, crushing him, digging into his shoulders, his chest, his stomach.     “Fu-fuck you, F-Frank!”
On some level, he’d known his partner- fuck it, no one was around to judge- his lover was dead. Not just gone, dead. He’d imagined it four-hundred ways just last Sunday. Torn apart by infected. Killed by hunters. Dead of starvation. Caught in another trap, in another town. Gunned down by FEDRA. Slaughtered by bandits. Died of a wound he couldn’t treat. Crushed by debris. But seeing his body strung up like that… it was all too real. Frank was gone and he was never coming back, died because he wanted to get away from Bill. Bill had been so intolerable that death was preferable. It was what Bill had always tried for, but... not with Frank. Never with Frank. Bill was alone. Joel and Ellie were going… somewhere far, judging by the fact they risked his life for a car. They weren’t coming back; they’d be dead in a few days. And Frank was…      He could see Frank’s face, delighted and teasing, the first night they spent together. He could see Frank’s face, sad but excited, when Frank told him he was moving away for his last year of high school. He could see Frank’s face, disbelieving and relieved, when they found each other in Pennsylvania. He could see Frank’s face, tired but content, as they worked on barricades. He could see Frank’s face, furious and exhausted, after their last argument.     He could see Frank’s face, gray and shrunken, laying on the floor in that house.     His kukri dug awkwardly into his thigh from where he’d sat on his bag and he ripped it from it’s sheathe, hurling it across the room. The excitement and pride Frank had glowed with, asking Bill if he liked it. Explaining that was why he’d kept Bill out of the west warehouse for days.     Resolute, breath still quivering, body still aching, Bill got to his feet. He’d run so much today that his feet felt as though they were crumbling in his boots, but his heart hurt worse.      He wiped the tears and snot from his face as he grabbed his bag, shouldering it. He sniffled and set his jaw as he snatched the kukri off the ground and slammed it back into it’s spot in the bag. He only halfway listened for infected as he strode out the back door and turned towards the bar. Rain fell from the sky in drops as fat as Bill’s tears. Lightening streaked across the sky. Thunder shook the town.      The one stray clicker that tried to bother him had it’s head blown off, and he was gone before anything else noticed the sound.     Slamming the door of the bar shut behind himself- just barely remembering to relock it- he threw his shotgun down on the counter. Nearly crying all over again, he raked his fingers through his hair, pacing furiously. Everything was so much. Everything was too much. Grief, regret, anger, betrayal, burned through him, clawing at his insides.     “Y’ hated my guts, huh? My way of doin’ shit? Of keeping us fuckin’ safe?! I k-keptcha a-alive for y-years! Th-This is what I g-get?!”      He swung out a foot at one of the bar stools, cursing as his toe connected painfully with the metal leg and it went tumbling across the room. “Stole my battery, stole my shit, stole my hea-” He choked back the words, sobbing all over again, and cleared the counters with a scream. It felt like his heart was being shredded.     Turning towards the windows, moonlight streaming in between the cracks in the boards caught his eyes. His gaze were drawn to chess board sitting untouched for months- years? he didn’t know any more- on the table. Bearing his teeth, his expression twisted from anguish to anger. He’d been saving that game for Frank. Waiting for Frank to come back, to take his turn. Frank wasn’t coming back.       Bill leaped at the table and overturned the board in a violent motion. Chess pieces scattered across the table and off of it, clacking as they hit the wall or landed on the floor. The hollow sounds echoed the way his heart felt as it thudded against his ribs.     “Fuckin’ gotcherself killed, y’sonnuva bitch bastard! Just fuckin’ like you, too!”     Shotgun forgotten, he ran from the bar. Ran up the stairs, spilled through the windows on the upper floor. Thundered down the stairs, through the bakery. Struggled with the bakery door, slammed it, locked it. He could hardly see, but that was okay. They’d cleared this section of the town only hours earlier. The worst danger he would be in was tripping over one of the infected corpses, slipping in the gathering puddles.     He could barely see to open the locks in his way, and only remembered to lock them again through sheer force of habit. Some last stupid will to stay alive, to keep himself safe.     Winded and crying all over again, he thundered down the stairs into the cellar. The sound of the cellar doors slamming shut echoed around him. No light penetrated the darkness except for his flashlight and the lantern, which had burned low. He ignored it, blindly grabbing items from the pile nearby. Items that had been theirs. His and Franks. Memories tied intrinsically to Frank that he just couldn’t get rid of. Comics and magazines Frank had shown him with a laugh. Cassettes they had found then listened to all night long for some variety from their voices, their breath, the ominous creak of settling buildings, the distant moans of infected.     Arms laden with poisoned memories, Bill marched up the stairs to the main floor. He stormed through the sanctuary, steps echoing across the with the thunder outside, to where the back window was still open to the world. Rain lashed the roof outside. If the sun hadn’t set yet, rolling storm clouds completely blotted it out. Lightning flashed through the sky, outlining the school’s scoreboard. Thunder shook the church’s foundation.     “Together til the fuckin’ end, huh?!” Comics and magazines went flapping into the air. Cassettes clattered across the roof and rained down into the mud below, but Bill was already jogging back downstairs for more.      The closet under the stairs was his next target. He tore the boards off with a crowbar he kept lying nearby, jerked the door open. Boxes of Frank’s shit- stuff Frank had collected, enjoyed- and shit from Frank- gifts- lay stacked inside. He tucked two under his arms, and a bottle of whiskey, and stomped back upstairs. He threw himself against the window sill, leaning partially out into the gale. He grabbed fistfuls of things and threw them blindly outside, with various ravings against his lover. A shot of alcohol burned down his throat for every fistful of garbage that went out the window.     “I would have done any…!”     He froze, choking on his tears, as his fist found a heavy book. His heart twisted into painful knots as he recognized the shape. He almost threw up, because he knew what was inside. The anger withered into a tiny, painful pit in his stomach. Exhaustion crashed down on him. His entire body ached.     Taking the book and his mostly-empty bottle, he stumbled to his room. He nearly falling the whole way, muttering to himself as he wiped tears from his face.      He didn’t so much fall into bed as he did collapse into bed, like an old tree finally bent low. He landed painfully on his pistol, and tore it’s holster off of his pants, while nearly spilling his whiskey. The gun landed, heavy, nearby. Moonlight glinted off the surface, but he ignored it, blurry vision focused on Frank’s old book.    Opening it with surprising care, after the violence he had displayed to Frank’s other possessions, he flipped to the spot marked by a faded Polaroid. He steeled himself, gasping and heaving, before carefully removing it and flipping it over.      Frank and himself beamed up at him from the old photograph. Arms looped over each other’s shoulders, Lincoln’s town sign peeked over their shoulders in the background. The first time they’d reached Lincoln together, after the outbreak. A simple heart was sharpied in on the white border, a B and an F on either side. Out of tears, he could only sniff and huff as he stared at the photo, grief narrowing his vision to a single square.     “T-til the end, huh?”     His hand exchanged the whiskey bottle for his pistol.

3 Things to Know About Intrinsic Safety
Fire is a major concern in every industry. However, the risk is even higher for industries that handle flammable gasses like propane and hydrogen. On the other hand, there are also some that are less obvious like ones that encounter a lot of dust. For a fire to start, there are three requirements – fuel, oxygen and an ignition source. Intrinsic safety is a type of design which focuses on limiting the available energy so that the risk of ignition is minimized.

When should be intrinsic safety be utilized?
If an equipment will be used or installed in an area where there is a high risk of combustion, using components like intrinsically safe relays can prevent sparks and keep the temperature low.
What are the different kinds of available intrinsically safe equipment?
There is a wide range of industrial equipment that has intrinsically safe counterparts like flashlights, radios and gas detectors.
Why are equipment that are Intrinsic Safety certified more expensive?
Compared to their noncertified versions, intrinsically safe equipment are more expensive because of the added cost of obtaining and maintaining certification.
