Now that Chapter 10 is up (and seriously, go to @knifeears​ and tell her how amazing she is, because she is), I figured I’d tell you guys most of the different little spots I put either allusions or ridiculously, ridiculously obvious hints.

@luthienebonyx​ said I was a being meta. Someone else told me I was subtle, which, damn, that’s a first for my lifetime.

In any case, here is a collection (mostly) of all the things I tried to put in Freely Given for (spoiler for those who haven’t read it yet). Check below the cut!

Freely Given, Chapter 2: 

And when they split their bill and Brienne quietly said she would make her own way home, he only nodded and squashed down the urge that told him he should follow.

Freely Given, Chapter 3:

The words were impossible to find, so Jaime could only stare at her, wondering what it would be like to love someone that much, to be left behind, to have to bear the fallout alone.(...) But a smile stretched across her face suddenly and Brienne reached out for his hand, tugging him closer so she could bring it to her stomach. “Kicking. Real kicks this time, feel.”

Maybe I Know:

Jaime was sitting across the way and telling her… telling her something he hadn’t shared with anyone else, trusting her. There was something in the way he’d looked back at her, his expression clearer and unburdened and then -

“Oh shit,” Brienned hissed and pressed her hand to an especially uncomfortable movement within her. And as she did, she felt a corresponding thump in her chest, one that didn’t seem so foreign now that she was paying attention. Her eyes opened wide as the implication became plain and she looked back at Margaery, saying it again, “Oh, shit.”

Also, it’s an homage to the scene where Brienne looks on Jaime from afar at Riverrun, with Podrick looking on. Finding a clean gif of that was impossible, but you know what I’m talking about, I’m sure. White horse, Brienne pining - good stuff.

Freely Given, Chapter 4:

“You want to keep it,” Jaime realized, thunderstruck. Brienne breathed in, hard, and shook her head fervently. (...) “Yes, Brienne, come on, you can’t say that anyone would do better,” Jaime insisted.

“Feel like a leaking faucet, it’s ridiculous,” Brienne said by way of explanation and then she groaned loudly with frustration and rubbed at her eyes again, her fingers coming away wet. “No, I feel like a godsdamn pod person, this isn’t me.”

Jaime: “The kid needs someone who will love him, who will do anything to protect him, who puts his needs first. That’s you, Brienne. That’s what you’ve been doing this whole damn time.”

Freely Given, Chapter Seven

Between the view of the beautiful grounds from the sea and the awe-inducing sight of a pod of whales in the distance, Jaime had been rendered speechless.

See! Doran had announced excitedly, eliciting a fond smile from Oberyn. It was the most animated Jaime had ever seen Doran, before or since. Massive, gorgeous beasts - look, the smaller one, that’s barely more than a babe. They say the bond between the mother and child is the strongest in the whole group, which is saying something.

“Not the peas, I beg you,” Jaime said, slapping down his menu to find Brienne giving him a playful grimace. “You’re still on mushy peas?”

“Who am I to deny the kid what he wants?” Brienne asked half-laughingly and gestured down at her stomach. “And the kid wants peas.”

When she spoke aloud again, it wasn’t to Renly or herself, but to the kid inside. Holding each side of her stomach, she spoke downward and said, “I’m going to give you everything I possibly can, okay? I grew up on the water and I think you should, too. I want to go sailing again and I want to take you with me, show you how to navigate a boat, just like my dad showed me. Start with some rowing and then work up to sails. It’s wonderful - the salty air and rolling with the waves. You should get to have it anytime you want. Eventually. We’ve got time to get there.”

“What if I just have him hold it for me?” Tyrion asked Brienne. “My arms do get ever so tired and I drink an awful lot of wine. He’ll be like a squire of old, I’ve always wanted one of those. Or I could teach him to bartend! That’s a valuable life skill.”

“Sure.” Jaime went straight for Brienne and Margaery’s place, knocking in warning, but found he  needn’t have bothered. The living room was empty despite his having left Brienne there a couple hours before, the both of them tucked away like two peas in a pod. “Wait, let me…”

“Took us time and it was a bit of pain” - Jaime snickered - “but we figured something out. Nice and simple, I swear.”

He likes to make himself laugh, our Jaime.

Jaime patted his hand against the rump of the onesie where there was a whale decal. “What did I tell you about beating up on you mom? It’s impossible, so don’t even bother trying.”

hello, everyone! I haven’t done a follow forever in a few years, so after being inspired by similar posts, I decided to do one for 2019. it was a great year on here for me: I found a spectacularly nice and extremely talented community with ‘The Goldfinch’ and all the heartache (THE ABSOLUTE HEARTACHE) that novel/movie inspired for us, several mutuals were kind enough to share the personal GoFundMe I started after I lost my job in June (THANK YOU), my continuous thirst for Chris Evans was inundated by a white sweater, the press for that scary clown movie, “DO YOU FEEL HELD BY HIM?” and so much more.
