Women's History Month Collection for Girls
March is the month to celebrate women and all our contributions to history and society!
(This was totally not supposed to be ready for International Women's Day on the 8th, no no.)
I wanted to give girls the opportunity to show off their feminism and also to celebrate diversity among women, so I made this! We have a sweatshirt with amazing women from history, a dress with incredible women from different media, and a t-shirt with amazing feminist artwork by Alura on etsy (link below)!
the "All Girls Are Superheroes"-Dress
This dress is the dress from Dream Home Decorator made bgc. The design says "All Girls Are Superheroes" in simlish, and above it you can see all kinds of (super-)heroines!
25 swatches
bgc
disallowed for random
the "Historic Women"-Sweatshirt
This was i think the original idea: make some historical women in the sims and put the faces on a shirt! I did a tiny mesh edit, to make the sweatshirt a little nicer. You have the names of the women on the shirt in the white banner, and below it says "The Future is Female". I'll leave it to you to figure out who is who ;) Thanks to my friends @kyriat-sims, @jackiewilsonsims , @dsimsdecades and @simming-in-the-rain for their lovely contributions to this project!
11 swatches
bgc
disallowed for random
a big thank you to the amazing @simverses for her help with a small weight issue!
the "Girlpower"-Shirt
These is a t-shirt with the fantastic designs by Alura! If you like them and would like to support an amazing artist, please go to her shop AluraHome! The link to the feminist art is right here! I edited them slightly, and added simlish!
31 swatches
bgc
disallowed for random
I also made this shirt for toddlers and infants! it's basically the same, although the colors of the shirt are slightly different, and they have one less swatch!
TOU:
Please do NOT claim as yours.
Do NOT put behind paywalls.
Do NOT reupload.
DO recolor (without the mesh please!)
DO use for mesh edits

Happy WOman’s day 2021
Our world is just a small cage of eccentric beliefs, where we are abandoned to believe that King is a title for man, only a man can be a King, the man can only protect the world like a saviour of the world, but they forget that every man needs a woman when his life is a mess, because just like the game of chess the queen protects the King, the queen is the one who has the power of making the most moves to save the king, she is the most powerful person who protects the existence of the game.
So, we like to pay our tribute and bow ourselves to every woman in this women’s day, because sometimes the King is a woman.
Powerful people have a powerful appearance, try our feminist collection to enhance your personality and appearance.

Lino Print:
I did a geometric Lino print design that I think could be used as a pattern on fabric and used on t-shirts as part of a campaign for the upcoming international Women’s day on the 8th of March, a day to to celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women globally.

MA Fashion and Textile Practices Major Project Path - 20th May
Looking through an old copy of Stylist magazine - the free magazine catered towards women distributed free across major cities - I noticed an article called ‘Let Your T-Shirt Do The Talking’ in regards to International Women’s Day (Friday 8th March). The theme this year was #BalanceForBetter - a celebration of women working together to create a more gender-balanced world, and you guessed it, a range of t-shirts have been designed by some of fashions most esteemed designers to be sold in high-street stores throughout the country. Contributing designs were by Zadig & Voltaire, Victoria Beckham, Markus Lupfer as well as celebrity Alexa Chung, who were added to the many other high-street offerings on the feminist t-shirt.

Zadig & Voltaire’s take on the protest feminine t-shirt used a picture taken by Italian artist Micol Sabbadidni from the 2017 womens march in New York of one of the protest signs declaring ‘Girls Just Wanna Have Fun-damental Human Rights’ - a play on words from the Cyndi Lauper song ‘Girls Just Wanna Have Fun’. All profits from which go to non-profit organisation Every Mother Counts - an organisation dedicated to making pregnancy and childbirth safe and accessible for women everywhere.

Victoria Beckham’s slogan to live by on this ‘I am her’ t-shirt to buy from Net-a-Porter. Possibly a reference to the #MeToo movement of 2017, saying that as women we are all potential victims of sexual harassment. The #MeToo movement began as a backlash to the accusations of sexual harassment to the Hollywood movie producer Harvey Weinstein. First used by American social activist and community organiser Tarana Burke in 2006, it was then taken up by the actress and activist Alyssa Milano after Weinstein’s arrest as a call to arms for women to speak out about their experiences of sexual harassment, particularly in the workplace. High profile actresses such as Jennifer Lawrence, Gwyneth Paltrow and Uma Thurman have since spoken out.
Lupfer, M. (2019). Erin Oversized 'The Future Is Ours' Tee. [Photograph]. Retrieved from https://www.markuslupfer.com/erin-the-future-is-ours-tee-black.
On a positive note, Mark Lupfer’s ‘The Future Is Ours’ t-shirt is a take on the attitude that we are what we create, positioned in a heart shape the text tells the tale of a positive future, that is it ours to mold however we see fit, we’re the ones in control of our own destiny.
I just find it interesting that with any movement or shift in attitude we feel the need to create a t-shirt to express it. We say we wear our hearts on our sleeve, but in reality we really do wear our hearts on our t-shirts! I have discussed before the instant ability to express our sentiments through social media, but oddly it could almost be like yesterdays newspaper, sometimes those sentiments are forgotten in favour of the new. Whereas the t-shirt is a more stable and constant form of expression - they can mark the times and events in our lives, yet can evolve to remain relevant and ever more vital as a vehicle to express ourselves in our current times.

Interview: The Menstrual Cramps
We’ve interviewed The Menstrual Cramps ahead of their appearance at our show on 8 March at The Fiddler’s Elbow, Camden!
Can you describe your music in a few short words?
Our music is riot grrrl style, feminist punk, shouting about things that make us angry (like our government and climate change) and issues we support like female empowerment and left-wing ideologies!
How did you all meet & decide to form The Menstrual Cramps?
Robyn and Cooper met through YouTube when they were teen vloggers and started making videos together. Cooper later moved to Bristol and matched with Emilia on Tinder, found out they lived 5 doors away from each other, so Emilia invited Cooper to her house party and then a month later they decided to move in together! Cooper introduced Robyn and Emilia via a WhatsApp group chat and then a house party in London, then Emilia moved down the road from Robyn and her girlfriend. We all met Daniel when we replied to his drummer ad on Gumtree, we met at a rehearsal studio and jammed with him for a few hours and knew he was a great fit for the band. The wonders of the internet brought us all together!
When Emilia and Cooper moved in together Cooper was always writing and playing music in her room, Emilia got fired from her job and was angry, so Cooper told her to channel the anger into a song. That’s when we wrote and recorded My Bush Aint Your Business, it took us a couple of hours in Cooper’s bedroom. When our housemates came home we showed them our song, they all loved it and said we should start a band, so we kind of did. We wrote a few more songs but we both were made homeless so couldn’t record them or start working on them seriously. Cooper then moved to London and set up her recording equipment again, we asked Robyn to come be our guitarist and then whenever we would hang out and get angry and political we would write and record songs and music videos together.
Who are your influences?
Spice Girls 100% percent, love 90s girl power, we all grew up singing their songs and choosing which Spice Girl we were, being in girl gangs, we play them at every party even now! We are also inspired by No Doubt, Pussy Riot, The Cramps (hence our band name), Girlpool, Blondie, The Prettiots, Hole, Joan Jett, Bikini Kill, L7, The Slits, Xray Spex, Robots In Disguise, The Kills, Laura Marling, Siouxsie Sioux, Bratmobile, Sex Pistols, Peaches, Amanda Palmer… there’s loads of amazing artists who influence and inspire us. Also our amazing friends inspire us daily and our feminist rants definitely influence a lot of our songs.
What exciting things did you get up to in the last year?
In the last year we basically started The Menstrual Cramps! We gained band members, wrote and recorded a whole debut album, recorded music videos for our YouTube channel, met some really cool people who interviewed us and just worked our butts off to make this debut album be awesome!
What have we got to look forward to from The Menstrual Cramps this year?
So we’ve just released our debut album We’re Not Ovaryacting, which we’re super excited about! Our first gig is with you guys on IWD which we cannot wait for!!!! After that we’re just gonna be rehearsing and gigging around London, we wanna do a gig in Bristol in the Summer but more details on that to come! We’re gonna still be writing new material ready for a future album, I’m sure with the current political and world happenings we’ll have lots to comment on! But yeah for now just focusing on getting our debut album out there and gigging as much as poss!
What is your take on the state of women’s representation in music right now?
The music industry is a man’s world, it’s owned by men, controlled by men and dominated by male artists. We see so many amazing female artists out there who just aren’t getting the recognition and opportunities they deserve. That’s why things like Who Run The World and Loud Women are so important, they give a much needed and much deserved platform to women in music, both on stage and off stage. Music services and companies need to listen to us, female bands and musicians deserved to be heard and have the same opportunities as their male counterparts, and if they don’t listen then we’ll just shout louder!
(Assuming you are!) Why are you particularly looking forward to playing this show on 8th March in collaboration with Loud Women for International Women’s Day?
We are soooo excited to play your show! You guys are doing great things for women in music and we appreciate it so much! We’re so grateful for this opportunity and we are so stoked that the gig is on International Women’s Day! As a riot grrrl band, feminism is at the forefront of everything we do, and we’re so happy to be celebrating IWD with amazing female musicians showcasing their talents.
Where can people listen to your music & buy merch?
Our debut album We’re Not Ovaryacting is available to stream on Spotify and to digitally download on Amazon, iTunes and Google Play. We’re currently drawing up some t-shirt designs but if you keep an eye on our social media accounts you’ll be able to find out when they’re available to buy!

Unpopular Opinion: Exclusion in A Day Without a Woman
On March 8th, International Women’s Day, women across the globe were told to resign from a day of work in an effort to show the world what it would look like if women were suddenly not around. Along with this request, there were two “easier” options to show support for those who could not afford, quite literally, to take the day off. The options included wearing red and simply not shopping or only shopping at local, women-owned shops. And the affirmation for the day? “A day without a woman reaffirms our commitment to the principles of unity which were collaboratively outlined for the women’s march”.—Women’s March on Washington
There are two parts to this request that can be seen as problematic. The first being that while this was a day to show unity amongst women, it excluded a large number of them. I consider myself to have a decent job, with somewhat decent benefits regarding paid days for vacation or sick time. I work at a liberal university, in a liberal office, with very liberal colleagues. The majority of my office participated in the Women’s March. Several of us regularly wear “pro-feminist” hats, pins, and t-shirts to work without a second-thought as to what others would think. We share news articles with anti-trump, pro-abortion, and general “wtf is happening” messages. If any office were to be expected not to show up on March 8, it would have been us.
And yet, everyone showed up. In fact, there wasn’t even a discussion about whether or not any of us would take the day off. Two of us wore red, and that was that. And quite truthfully, I can’t explain why i didn’t skip. I just didn’t. I could have, but i didn’t. I think somewhere in the back of my mind I decided I wanted to save those vacation days for travelling, not walking around Minnesota in the middle of winter, or sitting at home “protesting”.
Now, given the fact that I come from such an office who held the silent understanding that we wouldn’t be participating, I was sure that this day would be less than successful as far as turnout goes. My Facebook feed was full of women posting about their inspirational mothers, people had changed their profile pic to adorn a pro-lady message, etc., etc.. But, I didn’t see a single post, from women who I actually knew (not just a link to an article of some random woman), that had actively skipped work that day. I saw images on Facebook of women who I didn’t know in NYC and Washington D.C. carrying signs and marching and the first thing that popped into my head was — I wonder what they do for work. Did they work a job in which they just happened to have the day off? A job in which they could have easily called their boss and let them know they’d be participating? Are they themselves bosses or women with positions “in power” that meant they could make their own rules for the day? Really, what all these questions are getting to is just one thing — did they risk their job by attending? And if yes, is this job vital to their well-being?
There are jobs, in the past, that I’ve held throughout high school or college that I know would have frowned upon me calling in to support this cause. I don’t think I would have been fired from such jobs, but it definitely would have been a bigger possibility than at the job I currently have, and i know for a fact that there are jobs out there that women hold who would have been fired on the spot had they told their bosses they weren’t showing up on the 8th. I also know that some of these jobs would be considered “vital” or in other words, if they had been fired, it would have meant going without food until finding their next job, or not being able to pay rent, or not going to the doctor when they need to, etc.. And I would assume that many of these women, who faced such a decision, weighed their options and felt excluded based on the decision they had to come to. The ultimatum that they had to make was whether or not they wanted to stand with their fellow female force and demand rights, or whether they wanted to go to work and secure their paycheck.
It begs the question of whether or not women who come up with these ideas and decide for us what we are doing, really realize how many women they alienate in the process. And to make that wound a little deeper for the women who are not able to participate, they offer up the secondary choice of wearing red. Really? When we are constantly being told to be active and not passive in this political climate, it’s hard to understand why the message would be to either take this big stance and skip work or simply “wear red”. And I don’t mean to slam anyone who wore red. I wore red. I wanted to wear red. I wanted to see a sea of red when I walked out of my front door and was disappointed when that wasn’t the case. Not even close… And yet, I felt stupid for thinking that wearing red really meant something. That wearing red was an “active” sign of protest and that it would make some sort of difference. Because I really don’t think that it will. I think that taking to the streets, calling up politicians, boycotting, voting, and so much more is what will make a difference. But it will only make a difference if we stop alienating.
This isn’t an easy task. In some way or another we tend to exclude. We don’t think about those who live different lives than ours. Or we consider it the “minority” and therefore push it to the side. We make way for primarily white, wealthy, feminism. We forget about how many we exclude when we use this angle, an angle that is true for a lot of us, but not for the majority of us. We believe that this will be enough. That this will be the change. We need to realize and actively change the way we see feminism. Feminism needs to be inclusive. It needs to include people of color. It needs to include LGBTQ. It needs to include handicap. And, it also needs to include those who don’t hold the same political views. This was, after all, a day to support women, not just liberal women. There is even an argument out there that says it also needs to include pro-lifers. I’m not ready to be that inclusive…
Nonetheless, A Day Without A Woman cannot be an achievement for feminism if we choose to leave our fellow women behind.
