These experiences not only bolster their confidence but also position them as future leaders in their respective fields.
In conclusion, NPS Sarjapurâs commitment to comprehensive education is evident in its robust co-scholastic programs. By nurturing a culture that values both passion and profession, the school equips its students with a competitive edge in an increasingly dynamic job market. Letâs just discuss the elephant in the room. Or rather, the squirrel on your feed. I bought this notebook in Nebraska the summer of 2018. I was at the international thespian convention where I was auditioning for colleges and their theatre programs. If you swipe, you can see a list of universities that interested me, and that were interested in ME. This isnât a full list, but these were the ones I was most intrigued by. I didnât apply to ALL of these schools. I applied to 7. I was accepted into 6 and waitlisted from 1. That school was my second choice. I heard from that before I heard back from my top school, and was so worried I wouldnât get in. But in 24 hours, Iâll be in the dorm of my Dream School. Tip: NEVER give up. There is always a plan, but it may not be created BY you. Thatâs because it was created FOR you. Trust it.

CONVENTIONAL FAMILY? WHOâS THAT?
<<<Previous Next>>>
Chapter 12: In which Virgil and Roman canât have a normal conversation and Janus realizes heâs NOT a responsible parent (for once)
Roman felt, without a better word, AWKWARD.
Sitting across from his rival since middle school, Roman didnât know what to do with the stifling and tense air between the two. The tension was so thick, Roman could use a sword to cut right through it instead of a knife.
Virgil, for his part, looked deeply uncomfortable in this situation. Roman could guess that he was nervous about his dad, who had yet to pick him up even as time went by.
âIf he hadnât forgotten his key, we wouldnât be hereâ Roman thought, internally sighing melancholically. For a guy who prided himself in being meticulous and careful, he sure seemed to be forgetful.
Roman remembered that time they were in 7th grade. A bear had come into the school in the middle of recess and the students had been instructed to go to the gym.
Roman had been in the bathroom at that moment so by the time he came out, no one was there. He was confused and had gone to his classroom in search for her classmates.
Inside the classroom, he saw Virgil hiding behind a desk. He had also been in the bathroom and had no idea where everyone was.
Roman had been confused over only finding Virgil. By that moment, the two had a deep dislike for each other so they werenât keen on being near each other.
He was reminded of that as he sat next to Virgil, not wanting to be there alone with the boy.
Obviously, he had been a lot more scared back then. Now, he was more annoyed by this situation.
He remembered what Virgil had told him, all those years ago, when they were in the that classroom alone and confused. He remembered how Virgil took out a walkie talkie and stared Roman dead in the eyes
âYou really didnât bring anything in case something like this happens? What an idiotâ
âHow is it that you, Mr âbring a walkie talkie to schoolâ forgot his keys?â Roman said snidely, turning to look at the boy questioningly
Virgil shrugged, not giving much of an explanation to the question. He didnât seem apologetic, but did look quite nervous. That made Roman a bit suspicious
âHow is it that Mr âPrince Charmingâ is secretly such a jerk?â Virgil countered back, voice just as snide âNow THATâs the million dollar questionâ
Roman scoffed
âI donât know if i should thank you for calling me prince charming or be insulted by being WRONGLY called a jerkâ he said, a but too dramatically for Virgil to take him seriously. The boy began chuckling to Romanâs expense.
Roman chuckled just a little too.
Maybe this wouldnât be SO unbearable after all
â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘~â˘
Janus turned around, raising an eyebrow at the guy who had just shouted for them to wait. Remus had looked impatient before recognizing the voice. Now, he looked oddly smug
Patton caught up to them and began panting for breath
âSorryâ He apologized between pants âI just...â
He took a deep breath again. The running had seemed to really affect the man.
âWell now i know why this isnât the P.E teacherâ Janus thought to himself sarcastically. Yeah, he thought up sarcastic remarks in his head sometimes so what?
âI..â Patton started before promptly stopping as he glanced at Janus. The man seemed to still be collecting his thoughts, but kept eye contact with Janus nonetheless.
Janus began feeling some odd feeling in his stomach. He convinced himself that he was just sick of being in this school for so long.
âYes?â Janus deadpanned, looking more and more unimpressed with the man. His face was unreadable as ever.
Beside him, Remus snickered.
âWell I ummmâ Patton said unsurely. He turned to look at the cat âI wanted to see if the cat is okay!â
âThe.. cat? Who you are deadly allergic to?â Janus deadpanned again
âNot DEADLY allergicâ Patton complained quietly, the smile never leaving his face âItâs just a mild allergyâ
Janus didnât feel convinced but oddly enough, he felt like this man was not the lying type. Huh. That was new.
â...mild allergic to, then. My point still stands. Why do you care about the cat?â
âUmm..â Patton started. His face was one again unsure, but he kept a dazzling smile anyway.
Remus decided on this moment to interrupt
âMr. Hart is good with cats! He can help by giving me some pointersâ Remus said, his voice a bit too polite which made Janus suspicious of his intentions.
Patton beamed at that.
âExactly!â He said brightly âIf you need help preventing a cat-astrophe, iâm your manâ
Janus was about to interject, saying that theyâll probably not keep the cat anyway and if they did they could always just ask a vet.
But again, his âpoliteâ kid beat him to it.
âAww really Mr Hart? Thank you!â Remus said innocently. The little devil shot Janus a victorious smirk
Patton did not seem to notice the smirk. Instead, he looked at Remus as if he was an angel
âAww of course iâll help out buddy!â Patton said, taking out a notebook and scribbling in it. He then crouched down to ruffle Remusâ hair and gave him the piece of paper he was writing on âJust tell your dad to give me a call and iâll be there to help!â
With that Patton waved at the two of them and turned back to the school.
Silence stretched between the two.
âSo... you and Mr Hart?â Remus said tauntingly
Janus groaned. So THAT was his plan. How is it he had the most conniving, sneaky kid.
Remus probably learned it from him, Janus realized.
Shaking his head, he turned toward the car and began walking.
âWhatever. Bring the hairball with you or whatever but i refuse to participate in your matchmaking effortsâ he said drily
Remus pouted and complained all the way to the car, which was approximately 5 minutes.
By the time they arrived, Janus was throughly annoyed by Remusâ presence. He gripped the steering wheel and silently wished he was with his other son Virg.....
âVIRGILâ Janus suddenly shouted, startling Remusâ new pet âI FORGOT TO PICK UP VIRGILâ

Why donât you try to use yours first? Nespresso, Rolex, Lindt are luxury brands in their categories. There is a reason serious actors donât plug household stuff. There is a reason for headlines like âKatherine Heiglâs new low: kitty litter commercials.â There is a reason for actors in pre-internet era doing overseas commercials on a condition they wonât be released in the US. But I suppose if a Brazilian soap actress does it, then itâs fine. After all, Brazilian soap is famous for its thespians.
Thatâs exactly what I am saying by âuse your brainâ. While you try to use it, do yourself a favor and learn how to read English.Â
I wrote about a Brazilian SINGER, not actress. That SINGER/Performer is an international talent now. You probably heard her and if you didnât already, you will. She is singing in Spanish too (that âDespacitoâ kindacrap rhythm).
Yes, those brands you mentioned are âLuxury Brandsâ. David is not a top A lister star anymore, but he did endorse London Fog not very long ago. He did a voice-over for MBL and about 3 years ago he did it for a car ad. Even A listers endorse brands not related to luxury. It all depends on how much the brand is willing to pay. As I said before, talents can get paid more by the minute doing advertising jobs than they do filming a show or a movie. This is a fact.Â
And why does it matter it was for an UK brand? It is a multi-million brand. You are offended because it is a Sofa Ad? People around the globe buy sofas. Yet you donât feel the same when David and Gillian act like circus monkeys on Conventions Photo-Ops or when they attend very embarrassing panels? Those things are JOBS. They are not top A list actors anymore. It is more than normal the things theyare both doing to get a paycheck.

Day 253âMar. 23, 2021
Okay, so the numbers for my previous consecutive posts were off by a day (like a day ahead) and February 7â˛s math was way off, but I googled this! so from here on out, we will be accurate! letâs go bois!
BIG UPDATE BOIS! Essentially? IâVE GOTTEN BETTER! Mental health is better, habits are better, outlook on life is better, productivity... isnât as high as it was when I first started the blog, but itâs doing MUCH better than November and even January.
coping with minecraft:
So, Iâm still addicted to the dream smp minecraft fandom. my friend got me a dream hoodie, bucket hat, and a georgenotfound hoodie for my birthday. but! Iâm coping better. Iâm behind on streams, and am now catching up during Spring Break. For a while, I was pushing back school work to watch and catch up on streams. I promised myself that during free periods I would work since I was catching up on streams at home, and then... yeah. ANYWAY! Iâve gotten a lot better at that recently by noticing that even fanart accounts (accounts dedicated to mcyt-ers)Â were talking about how they didnât watch a phasmaphobia stream because they werenât interested in it, or talking about how they were behind on streams... it really helped me accept the fact that I can be a real fan and not watch every single stream.
cultural convention:
My international school does events with other international schools but because of covid, we canât travel. I act and made varsity drama (we call it a different name, but yeah!) and we had virtual conferences. I was incredibly friendly and loud and there were tons of zoom calls. Our schools kinda known for being... uh, stuck up? and kinda elitist. Not like I was being fake, but I was making an effort to talk during calls and be active on group chats made. I joke-flirt a lot and focused my attention on one person. A whole thing ensued, but some of the other actors in my school (there were only 11 of us) were joking abut sending me to âhorny jailâ and one girl kept apologizing for me. During âlounge sessionsâ I would interject with what I thought were funny comments and sheâd say âagain, Iâd like to apologize for her behaviorâ and... uh... I cried at school. Cuz Iâve heard way too many times from too many different people about how Iâm embarrassing... BUT.
What really helped was the fact that there were late night zoom calls and I was one of only three kids from my school the first night on a call with around 25 people. Other people said I helped give them a really good first impression of our school, especially considering all the things theyâd heard previously. The guy I joke-flirted with (I previously dmed him asking if he was okay with it and he said he was) said on a call that I was one of the funniest people heâd met in a while. It was a huge confidence booster in knowing that the efforts I was making were paying off :)
confidence:
Since starting this blog, Iâve been trying to be nicer to myself. Iâve been practicing more positive self speak and have recently realized the difference between the way I speak about and to myself and how some other people do. Being nicer to myself out loud has helped a lot in feeling better and more comfortable.
I wanted to try wearing black masks, but my mom bought the wrong kind. They had patterns and I was really nervous because I didnât really want to stand out. I used to not care, but... I dunno. Teenagehood and whatnot. We wear uniforms too, so the only differences are in accessories, hair, etc. Iâm not sure why, but I was really nervous to wear the new mask patterns to school. But I told myself it was an experiment, to force me to be more confident. I actually forgot I was wearing it until I saw myself. And since Iâd posted on my private story saying I was doing this to try and be more comfortable, some of my friends came up to me and told me it was actually cute. Shows that I really had nothing to stress for. Not that it was really self-expression, but for me, and anyone else who needs to hear this, no one cares. Maybe they even wish they had the courage to wear different things as well.
mcyt mantra:
I have a mantra now! adapted from something drunk Wilbur Soot said during Quackityâs livestream, I think. I repeat it when Iâm happy and when Iâm nervous or scared and I guess... I dunno, Iâm like classically conditioning myself? Except not really since Iâm doing it out of order. But yeah! get yourself a mantra!!!
character day:
more with confidence! spirit week is just an excuse for kids to not wear their uniforms, but I put a lot of effort into an Ace Ventura outfit I put together. I only saw around two or three other people actually dressed up as characters, but I had so much fun and thought I looked amazing. I was proud that I wasnât a normie ;]
Also... itâs so humid in this country and the rubber bottoms of my boots actually stuck to the pavement and fell off. I spent the day without the bottoms of my shoes and it was so funny. Even my mom laughed after (she laughed for so long, it was adorable) and she said only I could pull it off and that the friend I walk to school with everyday is lucky to have me as a friend. My mom was telling me about how she never had a friend like me growing up, just so weird and goofy. And it made me happy to think that I can bring so much... zaniness to peopleâs lives
ao3:
been writing a lot more recently! havenât been posting on my writing blog since itâs all fanfiction, but itâs helping me write! I update one of my stories every two weeks. When I feel like Iâm not doing enough, itâs a nice reminder that I actually can be consistent. I may be getting better... who knows :)
nehs:
been editing lots of papers even though I donât need to anymore since I made vp of my schoolâs nehs chapter. but itâs helping me learn too! Iâm very instinctual when writing, but obviously when Iâm editing I canât just ask them to change something because âit doesnât sound rightâ. So I google explanations and then tell the people whoâs papers Iâm editing. It helps both them and me!
ipad/drawing:
got a new ipad for my birthday. been messing around with procreate. been doodling in class (only dream team characters so far lol). might be getting better... hopefully I am!
also have a sticky notes app on my ipad and been creating to-do lists! yay!
teaching:
been teaching students in cambodia! last year I had a teaching partner who guided lessons mostly. this year Iâm the leading teacher. Itâs helping with my fear of leadership and responsibility.
social:
still not the most social, but more active on snapchat now with keeping in contact with some of the cultural convention kids. covids made it harder to keep in contact, and Iâve been trying to reach out more to my closest friend who Iâve not hung out with in a while. not that we donât see each other at lunch every other day, but I walk to school with, share a class and after school study hall with another friend. so comparably, Iâve spent less time with my closest friend.
recently had a spa day with my small neighborhood gang! my friend painted my other guy friendâs nails! yes! we used face masks as well :)
general update:
- went to the pool the other day and now Iâm hecka burnt
- yesterday I wrote letters for honor society points, caught up on math hw, wrote a reflection and plan for a class, reviewed chinese with my mom, met up with my âmentorâ for a class
- have been helping a lot of people! am currently a part of two peopleâs pieces for their theater class and I have a rehearsal later today!
- was doing a lot of work as an officer of thespian honor societyâIâm likely going to be on the officer team again next year and, until a few weeks ago, I hadnât felt like Iâd been doing much and was feeling unworthy. but then I was proactive about something and updated our sponser (schoolâs drama director) on what we as officers decided. felt... prettyyy goooodddd :)
- !!! yesterday I went on a walk and brought money and my student ID, ready to buy bubble tea, but then... I mustered up what little willpower I had and then didnât buy it. Instead, I bought surprise lilies for my mom (and some groceries she asked me to get)  - been trying to cut out unnecessary sugars and foods. if Iâm not hungry, I shouldnât eat, but also... I listen to my body and if Iâm feeling really snacky, Iâll indulge  - recently been craving ice cream, but not the flavors in my fridge so instead Iâm just not eating ice cream at all and ate an apple once as a substitute :D
- not sure if Iâve been sleeping more, but it kinda feels like I have been?
- started taking pictures of the world when I think itâs pretty one sunny afternoon when I was laughing lots with a friend... especially right after cul con, I was taking a lot more pictures...
- just been more active (not physically... though occasionally, when bored, Iâll stretch some... but I should try and get more active (I mean... the walk yesterday?))... creatively speaking (ao3, with art), socially online (cul con kids), in person (making plans over spring break!)...
- I just feel like Iâve been putting more effort into life
of course, there are the down bits, like for one project based class where the end product is due in May-ish and it focuses on the âprocessâ... Iâm just... not... process-ing. I chose a writing project (why). Iâm focusing a lot on my side projects, but not my class writing one :/ as well as that, when assignments pick up, I do too, but when I get down time I feel like I deserve it (which I do!) but I donât work ahead. Iâve been really busy though. Teaching got cancelled because the school in Cambodia shut down unfortunately due to covid. But before spring break, I was teaching, editing papers, writing my own for lang, doing cul con and then catching up on work I missed because of cul con, studying for tests, attending rehearsals... thereâs a lot going on and I need to recognize that I am doing so well, especially compared with a few months prior when I was in a much darker place.
mostly stress has been my plague, but yeah! also in the span of one week, two classes bumped up a grade (or half a grade... we have letters and + system (no -)) so my previously low gpa became slightly less low! It gave me confidence that I can end the semester strong!
procrastination: another plague. I keep delaying setting up college counseling meetings and have delayed this update for a while now... and the project-class...
also have babysitting jobs again so we gon get some monnaayyyyy! (job is not from people we met at the pool, but we did meet people at the pool and their kids liked me so much they asked me mom to get me to babysit them... another boost to confidence! yay :) Iâm a likeable person :] )
thanks for sticking around! Iâm glad Iâm getting this update in because Iâm doing... really well :D hope you guys are also doing well or that it gets better!

Gregory Pollonais makes Comicpalooza debut with 'An Appointment with Janey'
Gregory Pollonais makes Comicpalooza debut with âAn Appointment with Janeyâ
Multifaceted Actor & Film Producer Gregory Pollonais
POS, Trinidad (Sonique Solutions) â Gregory Pollonaisâ star continues to rise as his work continues to receive international exposure. The talent of the Trinidad-based actor and producer was on full display in the new film âAn Appointment with Janeyâ which was selected to be screened at the recent 2019 edition of Comicpalooza in Houston, Texas.
An Appointment with Janey which is best described as a science fiction short film with a big surprise ending made its US premiere at Comicpalooza (a large, multi-genre, comic book, science fiction, anime, gaming, and pop culture convention held annually in Houston, Texas).
The film which was shot on in Trinidad and written, produced and directed by Nick Attin surrounds an informal therapy session between a young married woman, Janey and her therapist, Dr. Brian Moreau. As their discussions involving her marital problems progress, all is revealed as to who she really is and where exactly they are both located.
Pollonais, who serves as the filmâs co-star and co-producer, got bitten by the acting bug at a young age and has been professionally involved in the film industry for a decade.
He plays the role of âDr. Barry Michaelsonâ, a close colleague of Dr. Moreau who joins the therapy session with patient Janey to conduct a very special analysis of her brain (a unique mental examination).
Joining Gregory in âAn Appointment with Janeyâ is a cast of other home-grown Trinbagonian thespians which include Kearn Samuel, Jalene Goodwin and Verena Siblal.
Though not a stranger to the film festival circuit, having had feature roles in several independent films which have premiered and been screened at international film festivals in T&T, Barbados and even Cannes, Gregory feels humbled and truly grateful to have his work presented at Comicpalooza.
He shared, âItâs a great feeling to be selected by Comicpalooza as they have a huge following in Houston and the Southern US and itâs a great platform to showcase our work to the wider film industries such as Hollywood.â
In addition to being fluent in both English and Spanish, Gregory is also a gifted musician, skilled IT professional and a podcast host.
With several projects in various stages of development, he aims to utilize all his talents as he persists in his ascension to the ranks of his film idols which include Jack Nicholson, Johnny Depp, Michelle Pfeiffer and Tim Burton.
As the filmâs team patiently awaits positive selection results from submissions to other film festivals, Gregory remains steadfast in his dedication to his craft of acting while increasing his involvement in the producing and screenwriting side of filmmaking.

An Interview with Joyce Meadows
In 1957, a then 22-year-old Joyce Meadows starred in her second feature, and what would turn out to be her only foray into science fiction. In the Nathan Juran-directed The Brain from Planet Arous, Meadows was cast as Sally Fallon, the high-spirited but long-suffering fiancee of an atomic scientist (genre stalwart John Agar) who finds himself possessed by an evil alien brain with some mighty diabolical plans for world domination. Things only grow stranger with the arrival of a benevolent alien brain from the same planet, who, in an effort to track down and capture the evil brain, possesses Meadowsâ dog.
The Brain from Planet Arous is a delightful and wildly entertaining bit of Fifties sci-fi cultdom with some solid performances and a remarkable score. Itâs the film for which Meadows is best remembered, and the reason she continues to be invited to science fiction conventions to this day. Although she was a film and television fixture in the Fifties and Sixties, looking back on an acting career that has now spanned over six decades, her onscreen work isnât central in Meadowsâ own mind.
Born Joyce Burger in Alberta, Canada in 1935, she spent her earliest years on the family farm, where the nights were often marked by music, singing, and dancing on the back porch. It was on that porch that a three-year-old Meadows would sing her first song in front of an audience, but dreams of becoming a professional performer were still years away.
âYou have to understand,â explains Meadows, still vibrant, sharp and charismatic at eighty-three. âMy motherâs side of the family came over from Europe. She was first generation. They were Russian and Romanian, and they were very musical. Grandpa played the squeezebox, my mother sang and danced, and my auntie taught me to sing when I was two, as soon as I could talk. There was no thought of showbiz, this was just who they were. Music was a part of life. Itâs just what you did on the back porch at the end of the day after all the chores were done.
Not long after that, the family moved to the States, settling first in Montana, then in Oregon. It was in Montana, when she was eight, that Meadows saw her first motion picture.
âIt was that one with Glen Ford and Rita Hayworth,â she recalls. âGilda I think it was called. They usually showed two films back then, double features, but I forget what the second one was. An older cousin took me. She was fifteen or sixteen. After she sat me down in the seat, she told me to wait, because she was going to go get some popcorn. As I sat there I started wondering how these people on the screen could be talking. When my cousin came back, I wasnât in my seat. I was very curious. I stood up and went to the front of the theater, then up the steps to the stage they had there. I was standing by the screen. I think the newsreel had come on. I reached out and touched the screen and thought, âThis is just paper. How can they make paper talk?â Thatâs how I was thinking. By then my cousin saw where I was, and the people in the audience were getting a little upset. You have to understand we had moved from a farm where we had no electricity, no running water. The house was lit with kerosene lamps, there was an outhouse. When we moved to the United States, I was just beginning to learn about all these high-tech things.â
A year later, when she was nine, the Burgers settled in Sacramento, California. It was in high school, after joining the thespian club, starring in several school plays, and forming a song and dance duo with a friend that Meadows first began looking ahead.
âThatâs when I became interested in performing as a career. I realized you could make a living at it. You could get paid.â
The years following her graduation from high school were busy and tumultuous. She started acting in local theaters (sometimes by lying about her age), including an early turn as Juliet in Romeo and Juliet. The local Chamber of Commerce also nudged her to enter the Miss Sacramento pageant.
âIt wasnât something I was considering, but it was suggested to me. I looked into it and saw there were a lot of opportunities, like free modeling lessons, so I entered.â
It was her singing as well as her looks that caught the judgesâ attention in the Miss Sacramento pageant, and after winning that she was contacted by the owner of The Wagon Wheel in Lake Tahoe.
âHe started bringing me up there on weekends to sing in the lounge. I was a kind of opening act for a lot of big names. Every weekend he would put a couple hundred dollars in an envelope and hand it to me. I was paid in cash, and it was a lot more than I was making working for the telephone company. My father was opposed to the idea of show business as a career, so arranged to get me a decent stable job. I worked for the telephone company during the week, then went to the Wagon Wheel on weekends, but had to be back in Sacramento in time for work Monday morning.â
At nineteen, after working in assorted theaters and singing in small venues around Sacramento, she set her sights higher. Leaving the phone company behind, Meadows moved to Hollywood, changing her name from Burger to Meadows somewhere along the line. She earned a scholarship to the famed Pasadena Playhouse, and later studied acting with the legendary Stella Adler.
âShe was so good,â Meadows says of Adler. âI adored her. I studied acting with a lot of people, but she was my favorite. Sheâd gone to Russia and studied with Stanislavsky himself, then brought his technique back to the United States. She taught so many people, and changed the whole nature of stage acting here. People always talk about how Marlon Brando was a method actorâI guess some people use that termâand how heâd studied at The Actorâs Studio. But when his autobiography came out, he said heâd never been to The Actorâs Studio, that he learned everything from Stella Adler. Of course Brando had been born in a trunk. His mother was an actress. But I learned so much from Stella, and liked her much more than the others.â
Around 1954, Meadows career took another turn.
âIt was pretty straightforward and technical,â she says. âThis was about two years before the film came out. A casting director saw me in a play. He said he had a part in an independent film, and that I should come down an audition.â
Although she would always remain a stage actor at heart, Meadows went for the audition and got the role. The picture in question was the American International Western, Flesh and the Spur, directed by Edward L. Cahn. Released in 1956, the revenge picture starred Mike Conners (who at the time was going by the name âTouchâ) and meadowsâ future Brain from Planet Arous co-star John Agar.
âIt wasnât a very big role,â Meadows says in retrospect. âAnd I think I get killed off pretty early.â
I asked her about the learning curve involved in switching from theater to film.
âOh, sure,â she says.âItâs a different process, but I think I learned a lot more on Brain.â
Less than a year following her debut feature, and after appearing in episodes of the TV seriesâ Highway Patrol and The Web, Meadows was offered the lead in The Brain from Planet Arous.
âYou need to reign things in a little,â she continued about the transition from stage to film. âYou need to learn about camera placement and where your mark is. âMark? Whatâs a mark?â And you need to keep moving. But with my background in theater that wasnât an issue, because in the theater youâre moving all the time.â
And what about having to act with a talking dog whoâd been possessed by an alien brain?
âTalking to the dog was not a big deal. My mother always had a dog and a cat on the farm, and used to talk to them all the time. When we moved to California, the dog was just another member of the family, and we all talked to him as if he could understand us and respond.â
The decade between 1956 and 1965 was an incredibly busy one for Meadows. She appeared in a string of films ranging from Frontier Gun, in which she once again co-starred with Agar, to Walk Tall to Back Street to Breakfast at Tiffanyâs. In that same period, a quick scan through her filmography might give the impression she appeared in every TV show on the air at the time: 77 Sunset Strip, Wagon Train, Sea Hunt, Perry Mason, Alfred Hitchcock Presents, Tales of Wells Fargo, Maverick, and on and on, often appearing on these shows more than once. I asked what the atmosphere in Hollywood was like for a young and attractive female actor in the late Fifties and early Sixties.
âYou mean creatively or the business end? The business was much tougher. There was a lot of politics involved, and back thenâŚhow do I put this? Letâs just say âsexual harassmentâ didnât exist. You couldnât sue people for sexual harassment. So there were a lot of those âchasing around the deskâ scenes. But I was tough. I was surrounded by acting coaches and singing coaches and agents, and they knew people. It got to where casting directors would call my agent and say, âI have a role here I think would be perfect. Itâs not a big role and itâs a new show, but itâs a way to get your foot in the door.â
âBack then,â she went on, âa lot of TV shows only had two or three main actors, so for every episode they had to bring in a lot of other actors who were prepared to play leads, which I was. Thatâs how I ended up on shows like Perry Mason or M Squad or 77 Sunset Strip three or four times. You look at TV shows nowadays, and they have eight or ten or twelve regular actors. The people they bring on are only going to get a small roleâjust one scene, or a few lines. A âFive or Under,â they call it. I saw a show not long ago where Glenn Close had just one scene. And sheâs a big actor! So in that way I feel fortunate to have been involved with the industry when I was.â
At the same time she was doing television, Meadows was also a member of The West Coast Ensemble , an L.A.-based theater troupe. It was an Equity waiver group, meaning they performed plays in theaters with fewer than ninety-nine seats, the actors were paid less than Equity scale, and non-union actors were welcome.
âI knew so many amazing actors there,â Meadows says. But few of them ever made the move to films or TV. There was one young woman, we were great friends. She was a great actor, a female Marlon Brando, but ended up becoming a mathematician at the Jet Propulsion Laboratories. A lot of these people just couldnât take the rejection. If you were an actor in a troupe like that, you were working. It was harder with TV, and they couldnât deal with the rejection. If I had a lot of money and was producing, I wouldnât even bother with a casting director. Iâd just hand the scripts out to all these people.â
I asked if, after appearing in over 200 films and TV shows, any particular shows or productions were especially memorable.
âPeople ask me that,â she said, sighing a little. âBut not really. I got to work with some very good people. I became good friends with John Agar and his wife. He was a wonderful man. Chuck Connors, too. I was a little scared of him at first, but when he saw I came prepared and knew my lines, we got along fine. One day this really beautiful woman walked on the set, not an actress. It turned out to be his girlfriend. They were the cutest couple of kids youâve ever seen. I was a little scared of Lee Marvin, too, because he had this reputation for being really mean to other actors. But again, when he saw I knew my lines and was professional, we got along well. Just two actors working together.â
After appearing in 1970âs The Christine Jorgensen Story, about the worldâs first sex-change operation, Meadows seemed to completely vanish from film and TV for nearly two decades.
People thought that since they didnât see me on TV I wasnât doing anything,â she explains. âI was having a difficult time in Hollywood back then. So in the Seventies I teamed up with a group of musicians, and we toured everywhere. All over the country. They had a female singer lined up, but it didnât work out, so they contacted me. I have no idea how they found me, because they were all based in Vegas. We were called The New Ideas, we toured for most of the decade, and it was a wonderful time.
Meadows returned to acting in the early Eighties, joining The Company of Angels, LAâs first Equity waiver theater troupe, which had been formed in 1959 by Vic Morrow. Leonard Nimoy, Vic Tayback, and Richard Chamberlain. In the second half of the decade she stepped back in front of the cameras, appearing on episodes of Punky Brewster, L.A. Law, and Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, among others.
I got in touch with my agent, and he said âI thought you were dead.â What a nice thing to say. But the roles were pretty good. I did a couple soaps. I was on Days of Our Lives, a five-episode storyline, and I was on another one that isnât on anymore. I think it was called Santa Barbara. And then that other big oneâitâs still around but I forget the name right now. And I gotta hand it to these soap actors. When youâre doing a film, you shoot maybe two pages a day, but these people are doing an entire script every day. I wasnât having a very good time, so thought, âI donât think Iâll do any more soaps.â I did a lot of commercials, a few shows now and again, then quietly began to retire.
Having removed herself from the film and TV industry by the late Nineties, Meadows and a close friend, Shakespearean actor David Sage, just for fun, took it upon themselves to study and analyze all of Shakespeareâs sonnets.
âWe would get together once a week and take the sonnets apart, trying to figure out where theyâd come from. We did this for two years, and it was one of the best times of my life. When we were finished, his wife asked us if we were planning on turning it into a show. Well, that idea had never occurred to us, but it was a wonderful idea. We wrote back stories for all the sonnets, stories about where theyâd come from, and turned it into a two-person show. Weâd perform the back stories, and the sonnets themselves were done as monologues. We had to memorize thirty Sonnets. And we began touring with that. We called it Will Will Fulfill: The Shakespeareâs Sonnets, the title coming directly from Shakespeare. We did that for about ten years. When David got too ill to go onstage, I did it myself. Turned it into a one-woman show and did it for a few more years.
Following that, she said, she heard from a friend who worked in a vocational center for the mentally disabled.
âIf Universal had a few hundred envelopes that needed stuffing, theyâd send them down there,â she says of the center. âIt was work they could do, it was a job, and theyâd be paid for it. She told me one day that a lot of the people down there  were interested in acting. They were from all ages, about sixteen to maybe forty-three.â
Meadows, who has also taught acting, could sense the potential there. At the time she was involved with another Equity waiver troupe.
âWe rounded up some actors, had some scripts written, and we began working together. We did a Western melodrama, a vaudeville show, and a detective show. I had never had any dealings with the mentally disabled beforeâthere were people with Downâs Syndrome and all sorts of thingsâbut they were acting with us and we were acting with them.â
Under the name âThe Meridian Theatre Academy PresentsâŚ,â the mix of professional and developmentally disabled actors staged productions in Burbank, Glendale, Newport Beach and elsewhere, usually before audiences of two or three hundred.
More recently, Meadows has become involved with a new ensemble, A Cup of Water, which she describes as âsenior citizen actors performing for senior citizens.â But to Meadows personally, itâs much more than that.
âI always regretted not going to New York when I was younger,â she admits, âThat was my real dreamâto do musical theater on Broadwayâbut instead I stayed in Hollywood. Now weâre getting permission to cut these plays, like Guys and Dolls and South Pacific, down to an hour. And Iâm finally getting the chance to sing all these songs Iâve always wanted to sing! I never had the chance to sing when I was doing television.â
She added that she was a little amazed at the sound that came out when she opened her mouth to sing for the first time after so many years. âIt was pretty good. I didnât sound like an old person. So Iâm going to keep doing it. When the day comes I open my mouth and itâs just {growling} ârah-rah-rahr,â then Iâll stop.
While for decades now, The Brain from Planet Arous has remained a perennial cult favorite among fans of classic low-budget sci-fi, more recently the resurrection of old TV shows on DVD, cable and the internet has cast a new light on Meadows extensive screen career.
âSomeone told me the other day, âyou had ten shows on last night,â and I couldnât believe it.â
The re-emergence and rekindled interest in vintage TV has also earned Meadows a new generation of fans.
âI get hundreds and hundreds of letters from all over the world,â she says. âGermany, Greece, Russia, Japan, even China. All these young people who have such nice things to say about my work. Itâs very gratifying. Itâs so cute to see them write, âI really love what you did in this movie or that TV show, and Iâm sure youâre going to have a wonderful career.ââ

Trump was reportedly suggested opposite banishment Comey even by some of his many brave aides, including then-chief strategist Stephen Bannon. He went ahead, and a reverberations dominated a rest of a year.Â
They will relate into 2018.
 Charlottesville
Trumpâs greeting to a convene by far-right activists in this Virginia city dominated August, and led to some of a strongest critique of him from within his possess party.
The âUnite a Rightâ convene stretched over a weekend of Aug. 11 and 12. Among those attending were unashamed white supremacists, neo-Nazis and anti-Semites. They had come to a city to critique a due dismissal of a statue of Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee from a park.
Predictably, there were clashes between those attending a convene and left-leaning groups opposite to them. A protester, Heather Heyer, was struck and killed by a car driven by a male reported to have far-right sympathies. According to police, a ramming was an conscious attack.
Trump essentially pronounced that there had been âhatred, prejudice and attack on many sides.â The response, suggesting a dignified equilibrium between neo-Nazis and those who protested opposite them, caused a furor.Â
The debate deepened serve when, during a successive appearance, Trump pronounced there were âvery excellent people on both sides.â

 Travel ban
Trump had been in bureau for only a week when he sealed an executive sequence that led to protests in streets and during airports.
The initial chronicle of a transport anathema that a administration attempted to order criminialized many travelers to a United States from 7 nations with majority-Muslim populations.
Trump and a administration argued such a pierce was required to strengthen a United States from a hazard of terrorism. But it ran into evident authorised challenges. Lawyers argued there was transparent eremite animus and discrimination, a indicate that they reinforced by highlighting Trumpâs campaign-trail guarantee to order a âtotal and finish shutdownâ of Muslims entering a United States.
The initial chronicle of a anathema became bogged down in a courts, as did a second iteration.
But a White House finally got a feat in early December, when a Supreme Court authorised a third chronicle of a anathema to go into outcome while authorised hurdles to it are ongoing.Â
Taking a knee in a NFL
Trump has had a quarrelsome attribute with the NFL dating behind to a 1980s, when he was a distinguished banker in a opposition United States Football League.
But he kicked things into a totally opposite rigging this year, hammering players who opted to take a knee during a personification of a inhabitant anthem in protest of secular injustice.
Trump put himself precisely in a center of a emanate during a debate in Alabama in September. Campaigning for obligatory Sen. Luther StrangeLuther Johnson StrangeGOP sen: âJust a factâ Moore will face ethics censure if inaugurated Trevor Noah: Trump contingency be âmorally degenerateâ to behind Roy Moore Moore gets boost from Bannon in final days of debate MORE (R-Ala.), who would go on to remove a GOP primary, Trump pronounced people would âloveâ if NFL owners reacted to a actor holding a knee by saying, âGet that son of a dog off a margin right now. Out! Heâs fired!â
The outburst essentially constructed a larger grade of oneness among a players. Trump, though, was retiring as ever to behind down, and strike a players and owners several some-more times, generally around Twitter.
It was not transparent who won a quarrel politically, yet Trump has regularly remarkable a decrease in TV ratings for a NFL.
 âLittle Rocket Manâ
Trumpâs unusual proceed extended to a general arena.Â
His supporters see his negligence for tactful niceties as a prolonged overdue pierce toward American assertiveness. His detractors courtesy it as forward and dangerous.
The many transparent instance came in Trumpâs ongoing argument with North Korean personality Kim Jong Un. In a debate to a United Nations in September, Trump called Kim âRocket Manâ â a coexisting anxiety to North Koreaâs barb module and a Elton John strike mostly played during Trump rallies during a 2016 campaign.Â
During a same speech, Trump pronounced that a United States would âtotally destroy North Koreaâ if it felt it had to do so.
In response, Kim called Trump âthe mentally demented U.S. dotardâ and threatened to make him âpay dearlyâ for his rhetoric.Â
Trump called Kim âa ill puppyâ â and mutated his nickname to âLittle Rocket Manâ â on successive occasions.
 A argumentative upraise call
Trump had already shown during a 2016 debate that he had no remorse about tangling with a kin of U.S. infantry killed in combat, if they criticized him.
Last year, it was Khizr and Ghazala Khan, a kin of a U.S. Army officer killed in Iraq in 2004. Wilson indicted a boss of carrying been unresponsive and pronounced that Johnsonâs widow, Myeshia Johnson, had pronounced that Trump did not seem to remember her husbandâs name.
On Twitter, Trump insisted that Wilson had âtotally fabricatedâ what he had said. Members of Johnsonâs family, however, stood by Wilsonâs account.
The debate followed on a heels of a associated Trump flap, when he claimed, inaccurately, that former President Obama and other past presidents âdidnât make callsâ to bereaved relatives.
 Indictments
The Russian examine led by Mueller began delivering a many critical problems for Trump in late October, when former debate authority Paul ManafortPaul John ManafortJudge warns Manafort not to plead box with media Manafort concerned in drafting op-ed fortifying his Ukrainian work: probity papers Trump went off on Manafort for suggesting he should not seem on Sunday shows: news MORE and his associate Richard Gates were indicted on charges associated to income laundering.

The bigger hazard for Team Trump in that instance was a explanation that Papadopoulos was auxiliary with prosecutors.
The biggest news of all came in December, when Flynn, a former inhabitant confidence adviser, pleaded guilty to fibbing to a FBI.Â
Flynn, too, struck a understanding with Muellerâs team.Â
Flynnâs flip is a singular many dangerous component so distant for Trump and his closest confidants. Â
Kirsten GillibrandKirsten Elizabeth GillibrandDemocrats spin on Al Franken Report: Franken will renounce Thursday Minnesotaâs largest journal calls on Franken to renounce MORE âwould have finished anythingâ
The boss reacted explosively after Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.) pronounced he should renounce in light of a accusations of passionate attack and other bungle that have been intended opposite him by some-more than a dozen women.Â
âLightweight Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, a sum attendant for Charles E. Schumer and someone who would come to my bureau âbeggingâ for debate contributions not so prolonged ago (and would do anything for them), is now in a ring fighting opposite Trump,â he wrote on Twitter.
The idea that Gillibrand âwould do anythingâ for debate money was widely seen as a passionate innuendo.Â
But White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders shielded a president, arguing during a media lecture that âonly if your mind is in a gutter would we have review it that way.â
Other womanlike Democrats, including Warren, came to Gillibrandâs defense, as did a series of media figures.
Gillibrand herself indicted Trump of âa sexist allegation attempting to overpower my voice.â
Sean SpicerSean Michael SpicerSpicer: CNN âdoing a disserviceâ by boycotting White House Christmas celebration DNC attorneys authorised to overthrow Spicer over choosing night participation in Trump Tower Sean Spicer to decider DC dance-off MORE and a coronation crowd
Then-White House press secretary Sean Spicer set a tinge for many of what was to come on a initial full day of a Trump presidency, lambasting a media for their coverage of a prior dayâs inauguration.
Among his criticisms was that a media had not famous that âthis was a largest assembly to ever declare an inauguration, period, both in chairman and around a globe.â
The in-person throng during Trumpâs coronation was significantly smaller than a assembly for Obamaâs homogeneous eventuality in Jan 2009, as detailed justification done clear.
Spicer also got several other contribution wrong in his broadside, though he continued to mount by it as prolonged as he served in a White House.
After he left, he was asked by a New York Times if he regretted a episode.
âOf march we do, absolutely,â he replied.
