Do you guys know what was the biggest surrender of our history after world war two?
It was the surrender of Pakistani military against Bangladeshi
On 16 December 1971.
But today I didn't grab your attention only to give you some random history facts.
We Bangladeshi students need your help! So please read this article till the end
After the partition of the Indian region in 1947, two independent nations were born. One India and one Pakistan.
The country of Pakistan was divided into two parts, East Pakistan, currently Bangladesh and West Pakistan, currently Pakistan.
But the distance between the two regions was thousands of kilometers. So uniting them into one singular nation was definitely foolish.
To think that the partition actually happened because of religion is laughable on itself but this is a topic of debate for another blog.
Even though we got our freedom from the British empire the people of East Pakistan kept on getting exploited by the west pakistan government.
Note, from now on I will refer to East Pakistan only as Bangladesh because the way we were exploited by our own so called government which only resided on the west pakistan and left us on poverty clearly indicates they never saw us as their own people.
Pakistan didn't only exploit us politically and financially, but they also tried to take away our unique Bengali identity from us.
They banned our traditional Bengali festivals like Noboborso (which is Bengali new year) They tried to ban Rabindra sangeet in fact, they even tried to replace our Bengali alphabet with the Urdu alphabet.
People were already protesting against it and were participating in every traditional festival
But the elastic snapped when they tried to take away our mother tongue, Bangla
When a pakistani politician made the announcement that "Urdu and only Urdu will be the only national language of Pakistan" in Dhaka university's convocation, it was the students who roared in disapproval.
In 1952, breaking the curfew, students and common people went on a protest for our mother language Bangla.
The police started to shoot them and the soil of Bangladesh became stained with blood and Bangla became the only language for people had given up their lives.
That's why we celebrate "Sahid dibos" and "international mother language day" on 21st February.
Throughout the fight for our existence, freedom and culture, students of our nation had always played a crucial role.
They also made a student's political party "Chatro league"
After the election of 1970, when the Pakistani government didn't agree to give power to the Bangladeshi political party "Awami league" our students again started to organize protests and other activities
Finally "Awami league" ordered for a mass protest. 2nd march Dhaka and 3rd march the whole Bangladesh was shut down.
On 2nd march 11 am "Chatro league" students hoisted the flag of Bangladesh in Dhaka university.
All this information dump was for you all to understand how the students of Bangladesh had always played a crucial part in our liberation.
Our students have always been fierce and had stood up for injustice even if they had to sacrifice their life for it.
And right now history is repeating itself!!!
Again students are getting attacked because of their protests but this time, it was our so-called "chatro league" and the government who are doing this inhumane act.
They are beating the students with rods, throwing bricks at them and even police are shooting them.
Only because we wanted the quota policy to demolish. Only because we wanted equal opportunity for civil jobs.
On 25th march 1971, the Pakistani military committed genocide in Dhaka. They attacked sleeping students in Dhaka university and protesters on roads who were still protesting at night.
And now the same thing is happening, history is repeating itself.
Students of public universities are getting attacked in their own dorm rooms, they are getting beaten to death by the so-called "chatro league" members. There are screenshots of the chatro league leaders group chats flothing around the internet where they command the other members to stab the protester students.
There was a time when Chatro league claimed they always stood up when our mother and sisters needed protection
And now those same people are beating up those same sisters they vowed to protect
The police are shooting the protesters like they did in 1952 language movement
The only difference is in the past we were oppressed by another nation's government
But this time it's our own people who are causing our student's blood to stain our roads.
Please do not ignore us. Reblog this post or use the hastag #savebangladeshistudents to create awareness

The Taliban are losing their grip on power in Afghanistan as attacks on diplomats and foreign nationals leave a trail of casualties and as border clashes threaten to spill into war. Investors are leaving the country in fear for their lives, scuppering what little hope there was of reviving the war-ravaged economy. Meanwhile, the United States continues to pour in millions of dollars with no clear idea of where the money goes.
On the country’s eastern border, Taliban gunmen trade fire with Pakistani soldiers, killing or wounding scores of people, including women and children, in recent weeks. Islamabad has effectively withdrawn its ambassador, Ubaid Ur Rehman Nizamani, after he was attacked at the embassy in Kabul on Dec. 2. Some commentators say the two countries are now at war. Two Russians were among six people killed in a suicide attack on their embassy in September. Clashes have erupted on Afghanistan’s border with Iran. Regional countries that were relieved to see the United States and NATO leave last August now worry about the flow of drugs, migrants, and left-behind U.S. weapons out of Afghanistan as the country nears collapse.
But it’s the latest attack that has rattled what appears to be an emerging status quo, as China sniffs the wind for secure investment opportunities in Afghanistan’s promising minerals sector and sets itself up as the dominant partner of a Taliban eager to make some progress toward recognition as the legitimate government. All that fell apart on Dec. 12, when gunmen laid siege to a multistory hotel in downtown Kabul used by Chinese businessmen. China’s foreign ministry said five Chinese were injured; the Italian-based nonprofit Emergency Hospital said it received 18 injured people and three dead. The hourslong assault happened the day after Taliban leaders assured China’s ambassador to Afghanistan, Wang Yu, that Chinese nationals were safe. Wang has since ordered all Chinese to leave the country as soon as possible.
With them go any immediate prospects of economic development. The World Bank said two-thirds of households can’t afford enough to eat as the Taliban have been incapable of attracting investment, creating jobs, or convincing the international community to lift damaging sanctions on the banking and financial sectors.
“China can’t rely on the Taliban now, so it’s over for the foreseeable future,” said a former Afghan diplomat close to Beijing, speaking on condition of anonymity. The arrival of hundreds of enthusiastic Chinese businesspeople on the lookout for money-making opportunities had given some hope that things were about to turn. They had thought they could ride China’s decadeslong relationship with the Taliban and plans flagged by Wang to develop the minerals sector and extend China’s Belt and Road infrastructure network through Afghanistan to speed Chinese products to markets in Eurasia and Europe. Its major state corporations had already earmarked the big Mes Aynak copper deposit near Kabul, with a $3 billion, 30-year agreement signed in 2008. They’ve also been visiting gold, lithium, and uranium mines as well rare earths and other minerals, mining sources said.
China’s aversion to risk has precedent in Afghanistan: Taliban attacks on Chinese workers at Mes Aynak soon after the deal was done saw those workers withdraw, with work yet to resume—though control of a copper deposit said to be one of the biggest in the world is a useful hedge for the world’s biggest consumer of the metal. Yu Minghui, who heads the China-Afghanistan Trade Committee and founded a Chinese residential development outside Kabul, said he doesn’t expect many of his compatriots to return to Afghanistan after the Lunar New Year in late January. He told Reuters that around 500 Chinese businesspeople had arrived since the republic’s 2021 collapse. “I think maybe 80 percent will not return,” he said.
China investment isn’t the only casualty of the hotel attack. The Haqqani network, a Taliban offshoot and al Qaeda affiliate, has a long relationship with China’s ruling Communist Party, and its boss, Taliban Interior Minister Sirajuddin Haqqani, has lucrative trade deals with China. Haqqani has risked going against the wishes of the Taliban’s grassroots supporters by secretly agreeing to Chinese demands for the deportation of Uyghur militants—fellow Muslims who fought alongside the Taliban with the Turkistan Islamic Party, which seeks to overthrow the Chinese state—throughout the war on the U.S.-supported republic. Documents seen by Foreign Policy show he signed off on the return of seven Uyghurs to China in the summer.
“For Haqqani, this was a pragmatic decision for his own survival; he’s always been close to China and needs to maintain that relationship,” said a former Afghan security official. But he’s risking losing support among core Taliban fighters and battlefield commanders, and there are plenty of other jihadi groups they could join, including the local franchise of the Islamic State, called Islamic State-Khorasan, he said.
Uyghurs were “the men who cleaned our weapons. They were our vehicle mechanics. They did everything we could not do ourselves. They won us the war,” the official quoted Taliban commanders as telling him. There’s little doubt Uyghurs face execution on return to China. A million Uyghurs are said to be incarcerated in concentration camps as the ruling Chinese Communist Party seeks to extinguish nationalistic sentiment and ethnic and religious identity in what the United States calls a genocide.
Questions are now swirling about future targets among the countries and organizations with embassies in Kabul and which Taliban faction or jihad group would benefit. The United Nations is consolidating its presence in Kabul, sources in the capital said, scaling down multiple locations to one fortified compound. The Islamic State-Khorasan generally claims responsibility for major attacks and could boost recruitment by undermining the Taliban’s Islamist credentials—for instance, by targeting the anti-Muslim Chinese regime. A variety of sources from the U.S. government, the former Afghan regime, and others close to the Taliban say, however, that the Islamic State-Khorasan’s capacity was exaggerated by the Taliban to gain U.S. financial and intelligence support under the guise of counterterrorism cooperation. Although its presence in Afghanistan does pose a threat to the Taliban, it’s also seen as a useful cover, as the attacks it claims as its own often bear the hallmarks of Haqqani network attacks during the war.
The security official said an exodus of Taliban supporters to the Islamic State-Khorasan has already begun and could explain the similarities in attack methodology. “Jihadists are like drug addicts; they just want to wage jihad, and a lot of Taliban supporters are diverting to [the Islamic State-Khorasan] to wage jihad against the Chinese as they’re the Taliban’s new friends now the Americans have gone,” he said, referring to disillusion among many supporters about the Trump administration’s 2020 Taliban deal, which led to the U.S.-NATO withdrawal. “There will be a jihadist rebellion within the Taliban as the number of defections grows.”
Since their victory, the Taliban have invited dozens of terrorist and jihadi groups into Afghanistan, including al Qaeda and the Pakistani Taliban, Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), which is now attacking Pakistan from Afghanistan. Last week, U.N. Secretary-General António Guterres reiterated concerns about terrorism and border security as well as other Taliban excesses like banning girls from school and the lack of rule of law and justice in his quarterly report. On Tuesday, the Taliban, which had previously banned girls from secondary education, barred women from universities as well, furthering the fundamentalist agenda they had promised not to implement.
Yet while the Taliban alienate their backers, the United States delivers tens of millions of dollars in cash every month for distribution via the United Nations, ostensibly for humanitarian relief, though much of it reportedly ends up in Taliban hands, further entrenching their sense of impunity. American officials regularly meet with Taliban figures in third countries. But that doesn’t seem to be a prelude to any sort of official diplomatic presence, which means the Taliban will—more than a year after their return to power—continue as isolated, friendless, and unrecognized as they are now.
As the threat to embassies and foreigners escalates and the Taliban press ahead with public executions and floggings, the optics of an official presence “just won’t work right now,” the former diplomat said. “No one is going to take that risk now or for some time. No one is safe.”

HND in Pakistan: A Pathway to Global Opportunities
Higher National Diploma (HND) is becoming increasingly popular in Pakistan as an alternative to traditional degree programs. Offering practical, hands-on learning, the HND in Pakistan is designed to equip students with skills that are directly applicable in the workforce. This qualification is highly recognized in various industries, opening doors to both local and international career opportunities.
What is an HND?
The Higher National Diploma (HND) is a work-related qualification that focuses on practical and technical skills. It is offered by educational institutions in collaboration with international awarding bodies. In Pakistan, the HND is considered a post-secondary qualification, equivalent to the first two years of a bachelor's degree. Students who complete the HND can often enter directly into the third year of a university degree program, either in Pakistan or abroad.
Why Choose HND in Pakistan?
There are several reasons why students in Pakistan are opting for HND programs. The HND in Pakistan is ideal for those who are looking for a more hands-on approach to learning. Unlike traditional academic degrees, which tend to focus on theoretical knowledge, HND programs emphasize practical training and skill development.
This qualification is particularly suited for individuals who want to enter the workforce quickly. With a focus on practical skills and industry-related coursework, HND graduates are often better prepared for the demands of the job market. Employers appreciate the work-ready nature of HND holders, making them highly employable both locally and internationally.
The Structure of HND Programs in Pakistan
HND programs in Pakistan typically span over two years, providing a strong foundation in specific fields such as business, engineering, information technology, and healthcare. The courses are designed to be more flexible, allowing students to apply the skills they learn in real-world settings. Most HND courses in Pakistan also include internships or work placements, giving students the opportunity to gain valuable experience while studying.
After completing the HND in Pakistan, students have multiple options. They can either enter the workforce or continue their education by pursuing a bachelor's degree. Many universities around the world accept HND graduates into the final year of their degree programs, giving students the opportunity to fast-track their education.
Career Opportunities After Completing HND in Pakistan
One of the major advantages of completing an HND in Pakistan is the wide range of career opportunities it opens up. Since HND programs are tailored to specific industries, graduates are often highly skilled in their chosen fields. For instance, those who complete an HND in business may find roles in management, marketing, or finance, while graduates of HND programs in engineering or IT can work in technical or software development roles.
The HND is also recognized internationally, meaning graduates can pursue careers abroad. Many countries in Europe, the Middle East, and Asia value the HND qualification, making it easier for Pakistani students to seek job opportunities outside of Pakistan.
The Growing Popularity of HND in Pakistan
In recent years, the HND in Pakistan has seen a surge in popularity. As the local job market becomes more competitive, students and professionals alike are recognizing the value of having a globally recognized qualification. Educational institutions in Pakistan are now partnering with international bodies to offer a wider range of HND programs, ensuring that students have access to high-quality education that meets international standards.
Moreover, the rise of multinational companies in Pakistan has further increased the demand for skilled workers who possess both theoretical knowledge and practical expertise. An HND in Pakistan provides students with the qualifications and skills that these employers are looking for, giving them a competitive edge in the job market.
How to Enroll in HND Programs in Pakistan
Many educational institutions across Pakistan now offer HND programs. Students can choose from a variety of fields based on their interests and career goals. Admission requirements typically include completing higher secondary education (such as F.Sc. or A-levels), and some programs may require specific subject knowledge. Prospective students should ensure that the institution they choose is recognized and accredited by international bodies.
For those who wish to further their education abroad, completing an HND in Pakistan is an excellent stepping stone. Many international universities offer credit transfers, allowing HND graduates to continue their studies with ease. This makes the HND an attractive option for students who aspire to study and work internationally.
Conclusion
The HND in Pakistan is a valuable qualification for students seeking a practical, career-oriented education. With its emphasis on hands-on learning and real-world applications, the HND equips graduates with the skills necessary to succeed in today’s competitive job market. As more institutions in Pakistan offer HND programs, students have the opportunity to choose a path that aligns with their professional aspirations, whether that’s entering the workforce directly or pursuing further education abroad. The HND in Pakistan represents a dynamic alternative to traditional degrees, providing a gateway to both local and global career opportunities.

Addressing Food Insecurity in Pakistan: Strategies for Long-Term Impact
Introduction
Food insecurity is a critical issue that affects millions of people worldwide, and Pakistan is no exception. It refers to the lack of reliable access to a sufficient quantity of affordable, nutritious food. This problem not only threatens the health and well-being of individuals but also has far-reaching consequences for the country's social and economic stability. In Pakistan, food insecurity is a persistent challenge, exacerbated by various factors including economic hardships, agricultural inefficiencies, political instability, and natural disasters. Addressing this issue requires a multi-faceted approach with long-term strategies aimed at creating sustainable solutions.
Causes of Food Insecurity in Pakistan
Economic Factors
Economic instability is a major driver of food insecurity in Pakistan. High levels of poverty and unemployment mean that many families cannot afford to purchase enough food. Inflation and fluctuating food prices further exacerbate this issue, making it difficult for low-income households to maintain a consistent food supply.
Agricultural Challenges
Agriculture is the backbone of Pakistan's economy, yet it faces numerous challenges. These include outdated farming techniques, lack of access to modern technology, water scarcity, and soil degradation. These factors contribute to low agricultural productivity and food shortages.
Political Instability
Political instability and poor governance have hindered effective policy implementation in Pakistan. Corruption and mismanagement of resources often result in inefficient food distribution systems and inadequate support for agricultural development.
Natural Disasters
Pakistan is prone to natural disasters such as floods, droughts, and earthquakes. These events can devastate crops and livestock, leading to severe food shortages and displacement of communities.
Impact of Food Insecurity
Health Consequences
Food insecurity leads to malnutrition, which can cause a range of health problems including stunted growth in children, weakened immune systems, and increased susceptibility to diseases. In severe cases, it can lead to mortality.
Economic Implications
A hungry population is less productive, which can stifle economic growth. Food insecurity also places a burden on healthcare systems and reduces the overall quality of life.
Social Effects
Food insecurity can lead to social unrest and conflict as people compete for limited resources. It also exacerbates inequality and can lead to a cycle of poverty that is difficult to break.
Current Strategies to Combat Food Insecurity
Government Initiatives
The Pakistani government has launched several programs aimed at reducing food insecurity, such as subsidized food schemes and support for farmers. However, the effectiveness of these initiatives is often limited by bureaucratic inefficiencies and corruption.
Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs)
NGOs play a crucial role in addressing food insecurity in Pakistan. They provide emergency food aid, support sustainable agricultural practices, and work on community development projects.
International Aid
International organizations and foreign governments provide significant assistance to Pakistan in the form of food aid, development programs, and technical support.
Long-Term Strategies for Addressing Food Insecurity
Improving Agricultural Practices
Sustainable Farming Techniques
Adopting sustainable farming techniques such as crop rotation, organic farming, and the use of bio-fertilizers can enhance soil fertility and increase crop yields.
Water Management
Efficient water management practices, including the use of drip irrigation and rainwater harvesting, can help address water scarcity and ensure a reliable water supply for agriculture.
Economic Development
Job Creation
Creating job opportunities, particularly in rural areas, can increase household incomes and reduce poverty, thereby improving access to food.
Microfinance Programs
Microfinance programs provide small loans to farmers and entrepreneurs, enabling them to invest in their businesses and improve their economic stability.
Enhancing Education and Awareness
Nutrition Education
Educating communities about nutrition and healthy eating habits can help them make better food choices and improve overall health.
Community Awareness Programs
Raising awareness about the causes and effects of food insecurity can mobilize communities to take collective action and support local initiatives.
Strengthening Political Stability
Policy Reforms
Implementing policy reforms that support agricultural development, improve food distribution systems, and reduce corruption can create a more stable and supportive environment for addressing food insecurity.
Reducing Corruption
Efforts to reduce corruption at all levels of government can ensure that resources intended to combat food insecurity are used effectively and reach those in need.
Disaster Preparedness and Management
Early Warning Systems
Developing early warning systems for natural disasters can help communities prepare and respond more effectively, reducing the impact on food security.
Infrastructure Development
Investing in infrastructure such as roads, storage facilities, and irrigation systems can enhance food distribution and reduce post-harvest losses.
Case Studies
Successful Models from Other Countries
Examining successful food security models from other countries can provide valuable insights and best practices that can be adapted to the Pakistani context.
Local Success Stories
Highlighting local success stories can inspire and motivate communities to adopt effective strategies and take ownership of food security initiatives.
Role of Technology in Reducing Food Insecurity
Precision Agriculture
Precision agriculture uses technology such as GPS and sensors to optimize farming practices, increase efficiency, and boost crop yields.
Digital Platforms for Farmers
Digital platforms can provide farmers with access to market information, weather forecasts, and agricultural advice, helping them make informed decisions and improve their productivity.
Collaborative Efforts
Public-Private Partnerships
Collaborations between the government, private sector, and civil society can leverage resources and expertise to address food insecurity more effectively.
Community Involvement
Engaging communities in the planning and implementation of food security programs ensures that these initiatives are tailored to local needs and have greater impact.
Challenges in Implementing Long-Term Strategies
Financial Constraints
Limited financial resources can hinder the implementation of comprehensive food security programs. Innovative financing solutions and international support are needed to bridge the funding gap.
Cultural Barriers
Cultural beliefs and practices can affect food choices and acceptance of new agricultural techniques. Community engagement and education are essential to overcome these barriers.
Monitoring and Evaluation
Effective monitoring and evaluation mechanisms are needed to assess the impact of food security programs and ensure they are achieving desired outcomes.
Conclusion
Addressing food insecurity in Pakistan requires a comprehensive and multi-faceted approach that includes improving agricultural practices, fostering economic development, enhancing education and awareness, strengthening political stability, and preparing for natural disasters. By adopting long-term strategies and leveraging technology and collaborative efforts, Pakistan can create sustainable solutions to combat food insecurity and improve the health and well-being of its population.

Author’s Words For Bahria Town
In my opinion, Bahria town is a well-established developing and housing society. Since 1996 Bahria town developed over 40,000 acres of land in Pakistan and its total covered area is 50,000 acres. The period and areas show the maturity level of the company and business. It plays a vital role in the employment sector; people invest in Bahria town without fear of the loss of investment. Over 500,000 people are living only in Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
Bahria Town is a secure housing society for real estate investors and clients for living and business purposes. I found a lot of propaganda against Bahria town in media streams. It is valid when you operate in a large circle. Things take time to settle down. Bahria town is a brand in Pakistan and most people love to live and do business in Bahria town. Prices are compatible and people can afford them.
Bahria town Peshawar is a new venture of Bahria town. Recently Bahria Town Karachi II was launched. Many experts say, it is a flop or fail show of Bahria town. I think if you have an area of 16000 Acres. It takes time to settle down. Circumstances are different in Bahria town Peshawar. It has 10,000 Acres land. It takes time to develop like 5 to 7 years minimum depending on the speed of development. Bahria tow Peshawar has the advantages of poor economic situation, prices of plots will be low, and high currency exchange rates attract foreign investments. Overseas Pakistanis especially people from KPK like to invest in such conditions. The success of Bahria town Peshawar takes time and Bahria town has strong financial strength and developing infrastructure.

Global connection and top-level experience
Getting a British education not only helps students to get a world-class education but also broadens their horizons by mixing with global connections. It will help them to gain top-level experience and build strong insight.

Squid Game: Best of the Cast’s Shows and Movies to Watch
https://ift.tt/39n8nzK
This Squid Game article contains some spoilers, though not the outcome of the game.
There are so many things to like about Squid Game, Netflix‘s Korean-language series about a group of desperate people competing in a deadly game, but one of the major ones is the stellar cast. Featuring some well-known Korean actors, as well as some relative newcomers to the acting scene, Squid Game‘s ensemble is more than ready to elevate the clever script and sharp direction. If you’re interested in checking out other projects from this cast after finishing Squid Game, here are our recommendations!
Lee Jung-jae (이정재) as Seong Gi-hun
Squid Game character: Leading the cast of characters is Lee Jung-jae’s Gi-hun, a man who has fallen on tough times after losing his job and his marriage. We are first introduced to Gi-hun in the context of his gambling addiction, as he desperately trues to get out of crippling debt in order to be a better father, son, and friend.
What to watch next: Lee Jung-jae is a 48-year-old actor who began his career as a model before transitioning into TV and later film. Notable projects include Il Mare, the 2000 film on which Hollywood’s The Lake House was based and 2013’s historical drama The Face Reader, in which Lee has second-billing as Grand Prince Suyang.
Jung Ho-yeon (정호연) as Kang Sae-byeok
Squid Game character: Jung Ho-yeon plays Kang Sae-byeok (aka the one who looks like ENHYPEN’s Ni-ki), a North Korean defector who decides to play Squid Game in order to get the money to get her mother out of North Korea and to create a stable life for her younger brother, who is currently living in an orphanage.
What to watch next: Jung Ho-yeon will no doubt be one of the breakout stars of Squid Game. The 27-year-old actress is a successful model, and has previously appeared on Korea’s Next Top Model. Squid Game is her first on-screen role, so we’ll have to wait to see what she does next. In the meantime, you can rewatch Squid Game or check out Season 4 of Korea’s Next Top Model.
Park Hae-soo (박해수) as Cho Sang-woo
Squid Game character: Cho Sang-woo grew up with protagonist Gi-hun, and is the success story of his neighborhood after going to a prestigious university and making it big as a businessman. Unbeknownst to Gi-hun and Sang-woo’s mother, Sang-woo has stolen money from his clients and is wanted by the police. He enters Squid Game in an attempt to make back the money so that he can save his mother’s business and house, both of which he risked to back his illegal activities.

Squid Game: What Could Season 2 Look Like?
By Kayti Burt
What to watch next: Park Hae-soo is a 39-year-old actor who is perhaps previously best known, especially to international audiences, for his starring role in 2017’s Prison Playbook (one of our Best Korean Dramas to Watch on Netflix). In the drama, Park plays a baseball player who unexpectedly lands himself in jail days before his major league baseball debut. The show follows his life within prison, along with the lives of other inmates and guards, including his former best friend, who is now a corrections officer. Prison Playbook is one of the most popular K-dramas ever.
Wi Ha-joon (위하준) as Hwang Jun-ho
Squid Game character: Wi Ha-joon plays Hwang Jun-ho, who is a bit of an outlier character in a series that mostly features characters in the game as protagonists. Unlike Gi-hun or Sang-woo, Jun-ho is a cop who is investigating Squid Game after finding one of the game’s calling cards in his missing brother’s apartment. He does a pretty good job too, infiltrating the operation in diverse ways.
What to watch next: Wi is a 30-year-old actor with a solid filmography. If you’re a horror fan, check out Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum, a 2018 found footage horror film that takes place in the former Gonjiam Psychiatric Hospital, considered to be one of Korea’s most-haunted places. You could also check out Midnight, a 2021 thriller in which Wi plays a serial killer. If you’re looking for something a bit softer, Wi has a supporting role in 2018 romantic drama Something in the Rain, in which he stars as one protagonist’s younger brother and the other protagonist’s best friend.
Oh Young-soo (오영수) as Oh Il-nam
Squid Game character: Oh Young-soo plays Oh Il-nam, the oldest contestant in Squid Game, and someone Gi-hun feels some responsibility for as the game progresses.
What to watch next: Oh Young-soo is a 76-year-old actor with a filmography that mostly includes monk roles. His previous work has mostly included playing supporting roles, but if you want to see him in something else, check out 2003 feature film A Little Monk, about a generation of three monks living in one temple, or Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter… and Spring, a 2003 film about the life of a Buddhist monk.
cnx.cmd.push(function() { cnx({ playerId: "106e33c0-3911-473c-b599-b1426db57530", }).render("0270c398a82f44f49c23c16122516796"); });
Heo Sung-tae as Jang Deok-su
Squid Game character: Heo Sung-tae plays Jang Deok-su, a gangster who enters Squid Game to settle his gambling debts, and who refuses to trust anyone in the process.
What to watch next: Heo Sung-tae is a 43-year-old actor with an extensive filmography. If you’d like to see him in a very different project, check out Racket Boys, a recent Netflix K-drama in which he appears as the coach of a boys badminton team in Episodes 10-12. If you’d like to see him in another dastardly role, check out 2021’s Beyond Evil, in which he plays a cold-blooded businessman.
Kim Joo-ryung (김주령) as Han Mi-nyeo
Squid Game character: Kim Joo-ryung stars as Han Mi-nyeo, a woman who will say or do whatever she has to in order to find her best chance at winning. Originally introduced claiming to be a new mother, we never actually learn that much about Mi-nyeo’s life outside of the game.
What to watch next: Kim Joo-ryung is a 45-year-old actress with an extensive filmography, though mostly in supporting roles. (Hopefully, her impressive turn in Squid Game will lead to more opportunities for the actress.) If you’d like to see her in a minor role in a successful drama, Kim appears in Episodes 16 and 17 of 2018 historical drama Mr. Sunshine. If you’d like to see Kim in a central role, check out 2012 feature Sleepless Night, in which she plays one half of a married couple working to get through daily life.
Tripathi Anupam as Abdul Ali
Squid Game character: Tripathi Anupam plays Ali, a 33-year-old Pakistani man who joins the game in order to get the money to support his family, including his parents and brother back in Pakistan and his wife and baby son, who traveled with him to Korea.
What to watch next: Tripathi Anupam is a 32-year-old Indian-born actor, who is another standout in Squid Game and a rare actor of non-Korean descent in the Korean TV and film industry. Anupam had a small appearance in Netflix’s Korean sci-fi feature Space Sweepers, in which he appeared as James Sullivan’s secretary. Most of Anupam’s previous roles have been minor, with Squid Game being a breakout role for the actor.
Lee Yoo-mi (이유미) as Ji-yeong
Squid Game character: Lee Yoo-mi plays Ji-yeong, a young woman who we find out entered the game immediately after having been released from prison for the crime of killing her abusive father. She becomes close with Sae-byeok, who recruits her to join her team for tug-of-war.
What to watch next: Lee Yoo-mi is a 27-year-old actress who has appeared in many TV shows and films, mostly in supporting roles. If you’d like to see her in another drama, check out 365: Repeat the Year, a time travel drama that sees 10 people given the chance to travel back a year to “reset” their lives, only to find themselves in danger.
Gong Yoo (공유) as The Salesman
Squid Game character: Gong Yoo appears in a minor role as The Salesman, aka the man who recruits Gi-hun into Squid Game by playing a game of ddakji with him on the subway
What to watch next: Gong Yoo is a very successful actor in Korea who is also known internationally. The 42-year-old actor’s most well-known movie role is Train To Busan, in which he stars as the divorced father and businessman protagonist trying to escape the zombie apocalypse on a high-speed bullet train. His most well-known TV role is in the uber successful Guardian: The Lonely and Great God, one of the highest-rated dramas in Korean TV history. In it, he stars as a 939-year-old immortal goblin and protector of souls. Longtime K-drama stans, however, probably know Gong from his starring role in Coffee Prince, a romance about a woman pretending to be a girl in order to get work and a young food empire mogul, played by Gong.
Lee Byung-hun as The Front Man, aka In-ho
Squid Game character: Lee Byung-hun plays the Front Man, aka the masked man who runs the day-to-day operations of Squid Game. He lives in a fancy apartment within the game’s facility, and maintains contact with the game’s supervisors via a landline.
What to watch next: If you’re looking to see more of Lee Byung-hun’s face than Squid Game offers, then you have a lot of options. The 51-year-old actor and singer has been a part of the Korean entertainment industry for decades, and has been one of the most successful Korean actors in that time, with five films on the 50 highest-grossing domestic films in South Korea list: Joint Security Area; The Good, the Bad, the Weird; Masquerade; Inside Men; and Master.
Lee is the only Squid Game actor to have some substantial Hollywood credits on his filmography as well. American audiences may recognize him from his role as Storm Shadow in the G.I. Joe franchise; he has also appeared in Red 2, Terminator Genisys, and The Magnificent Seven. A member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, he was the first South Korean to present an Oscar at the Academy Awards.
