the real tragic part about the whole science fair incident is that perpetual motion is impossible to achieve

ford’s machine would have never worked, regardless of whether or not stan had interacted with it

(warning i accidentally wrote an approximately 30-tag dive into ford’s character in the tags don’t click see more if you don’t want to read that)

anyway!! good night everyone ❤️‍🩹

#it’s also tragic because ford didn’t know #the impossibility of perpetual motion was discovered far before that point and yet he didn’t know #i mean. ��he’s actually just so arrogant that he thought he could break the laws of physics’ doesn’t make any sense #his reaction to the situation really didn’t match that interpretation as far as i can tell #i don’t think it’s just a ‘oh no! my dream school (that i was essentially shoved into pursuing)!’ type deal #here’s what i’m thinking:#fact one- stan and ford were seemingly already drifting apart by this point in time. this is important to note #fact two- it’s really emphasized to him that he’s smart. that’s all they say about him really- that’s he’s a genius #fact three- filbrick does not even care enough about stanford to say his name. he calls ford his ‘ticket out of this dump’#these last two points were likely heavily emphasized to him throughout his childhood #filbrick found out ford was smart and thought stan wasn’t. so ford became his plan to make money #ford is heavily bullied for his weirdness. his hands and his interests. being smart could ‘make up’ for this in his mind #he wants to leave. he outright states this- he doesn’t feel like he belongs and he wants to go somewhere he does (his own bermuda triangle)#so what essentially happened- i believe- is that ford internalized all these things #that his weirdness is bad and that he makes up for it by being smart and that he’s meant to make his family money-#-and that he wants out #his machine fails. this is a slap in the face to him. perpetual motion is impossible?#but why didn’t he know that? he’s supposed to be smart isn’t he? if he isn’t smart then what the hell is he?#what redeeming qualities does he have? how is he supposed to help his family now? he’s a failure isn’t he?#he spots a familiar bag. stan was here. suddenly he has an excuse- a reason to believe it wasn’t his fault #(and there’s really nothing to be at fault for but he doesn’t think that)#it’s easier to blame it on stan because of how distant they’ve grown. he can’t read stan as easily #and his reaction is suspicious- did he actually sabotage the project? is it…actually not ford’s fault at all?#they don’t speak to each other again for another decade #stan because he’s afraid of rejection #ford because he doesn’t want to face his own insecurities and emotions about everything #it’s easier to pretend that he wants to be famous and isn’t just doing it to make it his father money #and it’s easier to distract himself with things he loves than to feel all the guilt and hurt and frustration #and that. is perfect for bill to use to manipulate him #that’s my thoughts anyway. sorry for the rant was not expecting that to happen

they released the classes for next semester and i’m so 😑 basically the only classes that r in my area of interest which is women’s rights law (which let me note is a VERY broad subject area) are international law classes and i don’t want to take international law 😭 i took an international law class this semester & i just do not enjoy it at all even tho the subject matter is interesting i am just not interested in international law. but like so many of the classes in general r international law i’m like oh so nothing for those of us interested in domestic civil rights law? 😭 bc i am also open to broader civil rights law not just women’s rights but literally like the only stuff is either criminal law which no thank u or an employment/labor law class which i would be interested in but it’s from like 4:30-7pm and it’s like ok kill me i guess. but anyway i am not happy w my options is all. like the classes sound interesting but i think of having to learn abt them from an int perspective & i want to die genuinely do u know or understand how many useless treaties the UN has made (useless bc the UN has no enforcement power)? and do u know how many u can read before u want to blow ur brains out at the thought of reading another? well i do. i was NOT born to be an international law girlie.

HOWEVER.#international law is sooooooooooo annoying i literally hate it. maybe if i can look at the syllabus for the classes i can see if they r #more comparative law ie comparing different countries rather than looking at international law mechanisms bc i cannot do it again.#comparing different countries’ domestic laws i mean. bc that i am fine w. it is just the treaties & stuff i cant stand #bc they r so nothing. they are just aspirational w no enforcement regime. as a law student that drives me insane. like what law is there.#where is the law actually. so yeah i will have to look into them more maybe they won’t be abt those #oh they do have family law though which i am most likely going to take. so that’s smth!#and a reproduction law class but there r only like 16 seats in that so i might not be able to take it #also let me be real w u i dont even really want to take that bc reproduction is such a topical issue i am kind of like. i have heard enough #i mean that like i have learned enough i know so much abt reproduction issues like 😭 i will still try to register for it but like.#sue me for wanting to learn smth new yk……

#lmao #richard iii #my post #I think that's true for all usurpations and coups to an extent #but its 10x more applicable and accurate for Richard III #Not only because of the compressed length of time (a mere 3 months as opposed to years of back-and-forth tensions)#but also because ultimately one of the key reasons Richard could do what he did was because he did it from the heart of the political #institution (ie he was an internal threat rather than an external one)#and he was someone who was trusted and loved rather than mistrusted and hated. His betrayal was political but it also had far more personal #ramifications for everyone involved - most people simply did not expect it from him and cooperated with him precisely because of that #which enabled him to seize power before most people even realized what he was doing #And there's the fact that he actually did stage a conspiracy by accusing the Woodvilles of plotting to attack and ambush him #and produced weapons from his own war in Scotland as fake 'proof' - when in fact we know that HE deceived and ambushed THEM #there's also the (propagandic) lie that they usurped him from the position as Lord Protector when they certainly didn't #either Edward IV didn't appoint Richard Lord Protector meaning the Woodvilles denied him nothing #OR the council collectively chose to have a council rule during Edward V's minority rather than a Protector (something they were entirely #within their rights to do both socially and legally)#so claims that they wrongly defied Edward IV's last wishes or broke the law (which Mancini repeats in his account) must be seen as exactly #that - propagandic lies to vilify EW and her family #when in fact Richard was the one plotting a seizure of power - whether it was as Lord Protector or as King #(of course these are just two things - there's a whole laundry list of others)#so this is definitely applicable to him

#I totally get where the sentiment comes from bc the 2000s - 2010s #we’re very mysoginistic and I think a lot of ppl internalized that #and trying to unpack that #but you can love your friends and family members that are women without repacking gender essentialism or other harmful norms around women #especially when those norms of cis women being ‘biologically weaker’ are getting used against trans women #to keep them out of public spaces #I don’t think it’s a coincidence that these gender norms are coming back as silly memes at the same time that transphobic laws are being #passed across the country #personal
