I don't know if you know how much I love this au, this is like THE au for me, I love it sosososo much <333333
Any little thoughts about it that you haven't posted?
KICKING MY FEET AAAH THAT MAKES ME SO HAPPY TO HEAR ABSJDF
might aswell use this as an excuse to talk about black doom in the au!!
unfortunately he's not an alien anymore, instead a mobian hedgehog (who would've guessed). STILL SHADOW'S BIO DAD THOUGH!
literally the only reason he gave Shadow up was because he simply. did not know how to care for a child nor did he really want to. he had his focus on bigger things and wouldn't put them aside for his own kid (child neglect booooo). he does still keep pictures of Shadow when he was a baby though and ITS. VERY RELEVANT TO HOW THEY REUNITE LATER LOL
he never kept in touch with Shadow. hell he didn't even know who took him in after he left him!!! he didn't see a reason to because there was no gain for him.
SO... WHEN HE FINDS OUT THAT SHADOW IS NOW A FAMOUS MUSICIAN... he decides to look for him.
he traces down that he lives with Gerald Robotnik (lucky for him the guy is a lil famous himself for his advances in medicine so wasn't too hard to track him down) n decides to go pay them a visit.
WHEN HE DOES IT GOES DOWN AS WELL AS YOU'D THINK. ie. complete and utter chaos. i plan on making a lil comic for when they meet so not gonna go into depth about that hehe
he sort of ends up intergrating himself into the family despite how much Shadow and Maria want to punt him into the sun. n lets just say family dinners are hell.

The story about
Profit-hungry doctors, profit-hungry pharmaceutical companies
Patients as a disruptive factor.
There are two types of doctors:
The first kind are doctors who study medicine only
to help sick and injured people.
The second kind are doctors who only study medicine
to get rich.
This story should therefore not be judged prematurely by its cover.
It is worth reading on.

What is Intergrative Medicine?
Integrative medicine is the practice of medicine that reaffirms the importance of the relationship between practitioner and patient, focuses on the whole person, is informed by evidence, and makes use of all appropriate therapeutic approaches, healthcare professionals and disciplines to achieve optimal health and healing.
Patient and practitioner are partners in the healing process.
All factors that influence health, wellness and disease are taken into consideration; including mind, spirit, and community as well as the body.
Appropriate use of both conventional and alternative methods facilitates the body’s innate healing response.
Effective interventions that are natural and less invasive should be used whenever possible.
Integrative medicine neither rejects conventional medicine nor accepts alternative therapies uncritically.
Good medicine is based in good science. It is inquiry-driven and open to new paradigms.
Alongside the concept of treatment, the broader concepts of health promotion and the prevention of illness are paramount.
Practitioners of integrative medicine should exemplify its principles and commit themselves to self-exploration and self-development.

The Barn AU
So, I’ll be honest with you this AU kind of came out of no where but I’m... kind of in love with it now.
This AU pretty much destroys canon from the very beginning.
Into The Wild goes as planned except Sandstorm and Dustpelt become warriors alongside Graystripe and Fireheart. Also Sandstorm isn’t nearly as cruel to Fireheart and Graystripe and while Ravenpaw runs away it’s made clear Fire/Gray/Sand/Raven are a thing.
Fire and Ice is when we begin really changing shit. Brackenkit and Cinderkit stay kits who aren’t apprenticed to early. Graystripe still falls in love with Silverstream but he ropes Fireheart and Sandstorm into it so we get Fire/Gray/Sand/Silver.
With two of their partners in places where they can’t date them while still in Thunderclan, Fire, Gray, and Sand come up with the idea of moving into the barn with Raven and Barley. They of course invite Silverstream who longs for adventure outside of the clans and wants to be with her partners.
So everyone separates from the clans and moves into the barn. We work into a full polycule with Fire/Gray/Sand/Silver/Raven/Barley and it becomes clear Sand and Silver are pregnant with Fire and Gray’s kits respectively
Silver still dies while kitting, going into unexpected labor while out with Gray, Fire and Barley. Sand gives birth to her kits at the same time while in the barn with Raven but obviously she lives and Sand and Raven don’t find out Silver is dead until the others return.
Sand nurses Featherkit, Stormkit, Squirrelkit, Streamkit (Leafkit who was named after Silverstream rather then Leafstar who doesn’t exist in this au or fucking Spottedleaf) and eventually Cloudkit who Fireheart receives from Princess after visiting her just as he does in Forest of Secrets.
Tigerclaw does the dog thing but he does it without getting exiled from Thunderclan. Then he tries attacking Bluestar and Bluestar fucking kills him, putting the problem to rest so no one has to worry about it. Though he could also have been killed by Scouge while trying to make a deal or something. Admittedly, it doesn’t really matter. Point is, bitch is dead.
Featherpaw is still called on the journey, sneaking out after receiving prophetic dreams. Her siblings all end up following her and long story short, Brambleclaw and Tawnypelt end up getting stuck on a journey to the ocean with six apprentices.
Sharptooth isn’t a thing because I say so and as such no one dies on the journey. Though at some point Featherpaw does get some pretty severe injuries (maybe from trying to catch a hawk with the prey-hunters or something).
Stormpaw and Brook (who is also younger in this au) fall in love like in canon but instead of Storm moving in with Brook, Brook comes with Storm to the barn to stay with him.
Crowpaw and Featherpaw fall for each other and when the group gets back Crowpaw decides to join the other apprentices in the barn (it’s not like Windclan ever treated him particularly well anyway). The polycule welcomes him and gives everyone warrior names (Crow is insistent on the Feather suffix cuz he’s a fucking sap).
Brambleclaw and Tawnypelt are the ones who handle convincing the clans they gotta leave and like in the new prophecy (pretty sure it’s in Dawn) the clan cats stay in the barn for a few nights to prepare for the full journey.
When the clan cats leave a few stay behind. Dustpelt and Ferncloud along with Birchkit, Larchkit, and Hollykit (because they’re afraid for their kits survival on the journey as they should be and Dustpelt doesn’t want to leave his best friend and brother behind). Shrewtail (Shrewpaw who lived from the accident with the pheasant he’s just got a messed up leg, think Cinderpelt but a front leg) because well, his parents are staying with his younger siblings and he’s infatuated with Squirrelflight. Lostface (the dog incident happens but Fireheart isn’t wasn’t there to rename her), Swiftscar (he lived the attack but he’s fucking covered in scars and he’s missing a tail and leg) who both find themselves enamored with Cloudtail and their daughter Whitepaw also stays. Sorretail also stays, finding interest in Streamheart.
Streamheart also learns a sufficient amount of medicine from the different medicine cats in each clan after showing interest in the subject before the clans leave.
After the clans leave things sort of just... progress slowly. Fern and Dust’s second litter all live and they have Foxleap and Icecloud once the three earn their warrior names (Birchfall ofc, Larchwing and Hollywhisker). Though Hollywhisker dies at some point just before Feathertail has Crowfeather’s kits which end up being the three and they named Hollykit after her.
Jayfeather, Lionblaze and Hollyleaf are all named and because the three prophecy isn’t rlly a thing and they were never lied to or anything they a) don’t have powers and b) Hollyleaf doesn’t die ridiculously early
Breezepelt is also born at some point to Feathertail and Crowfeather, though whether it’s with the three or a separate litter is undecided and doesn’t particularly matter. Either way in this one he’s not nearly as much of a dick.
Birchfall and Whitewing have Dovekit and Ivykit together.
Graystripe meets Millie who moves with her housefolk somewhere nearby and she gets intergrated into the polycule where they eventually have Bumblekit, Blossomkit, and Briarkit
Stormfur and Brook have Larkkit, Breezekit, Pinekit, and Featherkit (unlike the other similar names this isn’t done because Feathertail is dead. Storm just really loves his sister).
Shrewtail and Squirrelflight have Alderkit, Juniperkit, Dandelionkit, and Sparkkit (and no one dies)
Lostface and Cloudtail have Amberkit, Snowkit and Dewkit.
Streamheart also passes down the information on herbs she gained meaning that many of the cats understand it (Lostface and Swiftscar also help having been locked in the medicine cat den for quite awhile).
Alderheart also finds Twigkit and Violetkit at some point but they’re just kits who were abandoned that he takes in to raise (maybe with Velvet though I don’t know enough about her to confidently add that in).
Essentially the barn cats sort of just grow on their own and become a group a bit like the sisters in that every cat sort of acts like the kits parents. They let in outsiders freely and it’s sort of it’s own peaceful little society. Because of the peace there’s little death and carnage as well so cats live for long periods of time (Ravenpaw’s cancer is a myth here, it doesn’t exist, begone angst).

This whole dust-up has really crystalized one of the dynamics that I think makes modern media fandom a particularly contenscious and often ultimately dissatisfying experience.
~*~
Fans often (not always!) but often know more and have a deeper engagement with the canon than those who have authoritative 'control' over it. This is not a new insight, but it is a fairly unique dynamic relative to other areas of life.
We consider doctors authorities on medicine, and indeed, doctors typically have more medical expertise than lay people.
We consider lawyers authorities on the law, and indeed, lawyers typically have more legal expertise than lay people.
We consider mathmaticians authorities on math, and indeed, mathmaticians typically have more expertise in math than lay people.
And so on...
Now, stipulated, there is no realm in which being an authority makes you infallible. Doctors have been wrong many times about medicine. Lawyers have been wrong many times about the law, etc. But generally speaking, their broad authority on the subject is warranted, earned, and overall, they tend to know more about their area of authority than their patients, clients, students, and so on. Generally.
With entertainment media, often this dynamic is reversed. (Again, not always, but commonly). We consider networks and studios and writers and producers and actors and those officially connected to making/distributing the content to have an authoritative power over it that legitimizes certain things about it, and delegitimizes other things about it.
But the thing is, just being part of the creative production process on a piece of media does not (necessarily) give you any particular knowledge of it, or expertise in it. Jensen Ackles famously forgets major plot points his character was directly involved in. Even being intergral to and heavily involved in the creative process of making a piece of media does not accord you any automatic expertise in it.
Yet being an official part of the creative process is what (seemingly) accords you authority over it. Your level/degree of authority can vary widely. But we, as a society, typically put more stock in what institutional creatives say about a piece of media than we do in what some random fan has to say, even if that fan demonstrably knows the content WAY better than anyone who was involved in making it. (A dynamic which is particularly likely to happen with vast, spralling media franchises with a ton of fantasy or sci-fi lore)
With entertainment media, there is little to no correlation between your perceived level of authority on the content and your actual level of knowledge/expertise of the content.
This dynamic is atypical compared to many other realms of life, and it is something that I think makes the experience of media fandom uniquely frustrating. And uniquely predisposed to drama of the kind that has overtaken the Supernatural fandom in the last few days.
We have this almost unyeilding desire for institutional authoritative validation of our understanding of the content, even from people whose actual knowledge of it is fractional and paltry, compared to our own.

Me And My Sisters 5 FanClans!
hello! Ive been following you for a while now, and you have been a great insperation towards mine and my sisters fanclans! We decided t share them with you, and was wondering if you could help us with expanding them?
Id be glad to help!
SunClan - SunClan is one of the oldest clans, mainly known for accepting nearly any cat to join them. They are quite relaxed with rules, as long as you do your job and arent a massive bumhole to anyone, you have a place here. Their territory is a massive clearing in the middle of a dense forest, with their camp surrounding a large boulder near a lake, in more recent news, they have recently got into hot waters for allowing a kit to be leader and welcoming an other clan’s exiled queen and her kit.
Sounds like a very interesting clan, although I am both confused and concerned about a kit as leader. I feel like I need more context for this.
Thicket Clan - ThicketClan is basically an edgy clan, who in history was driven out of their sprawling territory and pushed into a wide area of thorns and brambles ,by a territory war, a place they believed no cat could thrive. But, the remaining cats survived and thrived, and despite being one of the smallest clans, they are one of the strongest. In recent news, the leaders sister and her “star crossed lover” recently ran away to sunclan (one of their main rivals.), and they also accepted a new apprentice who had ran away from CloudClan (their other rival)
Im curious what they hunt in the brambly area, and how they live there? Do they have like tunnels through the brambles? Do they have thick skin to protect from the brambles?
CloudClan - CloudClan is a new clan, formed only two generations before present day. It started as a small group of cats who split off from OceanClan after a debate regarding the war with TimeClan, who live on the base of the mountains below TimeClan’s territory. Their camp is in the same cave as the moontree, which is seen as quite a contreversal move from the other clans stand point. In recent news, they clan has had some inner fighting about one cat, as he is dad to 80% of the Clan, aswell as a SunClan Medicine cat joining, as the clan was nearly wiped out by whitecough in the recent winter.
How is one cat the father to most of the clan? That sounds like a very bad situation for the health and survival of the clan. Or is it that most of the cats who werent related to him died from Whitecough? Otherwise I find it interesting their camp is in the sacred place for the clans, why did they allow it in the first place?
OceanClan - OceanClan lives on the beach near the large two-leg place, a clan roughly the same age as SunClan, they have been in a war for generations now with TimeClan, over the prey-full stretch of meadow between their territories. Most cats make fun of them for being near salt-water, calling them “rock-drinkers.” In recent news, the leaders newborn litter have been mentioned in a prophecy, but none can tell which kit is the star. Oh and one of the leaders daughters lived as a rogue for a few moons and came back as his true self.
Seems like a solid clan, Im curious to hear more about the prophecy and the cats involved.
TimeClan. my sisters main one - TimeClan has been around, in the cats lore, since the dawn of time. The first cats of the clans seemed to live forever, and when fighting one, the world was said to slow down. They have ruled the mountains for generations, recently moving their camp from a lone tree to a cave, as the tree couldnt handle the new, strong winds, A few moons before sunclan and oceanclan were formed, a great gang of rougues joined, and intergrated into TimeClan. They half-kits were annoyed at the lack of time bending powers, and killed off every cat that showed even a sign of that power. In recent news, the leader was involved in a forbidden relationship, and a medicine cat fell in love with the rival clans.
So most of Timeclan has these abilities, do any of the other clans have their own abilities? Where did Timeclan gain them?  I think you have the solid base for some good stories and conflicts, just maybe a few more details will help you to create some even more vivid stories!

Spastic thoughts on #Cripkult
One thing about getting sports massages from a trained massage therapist continually brings to mind is how much Cerebral Palsy renders the standard ideas of how muscles and anatomy work as ridiculously "normalised".
Crippled and disabled bodies are biophysically divergent. One would think this was obvious, except it *really* isn't. Case in point: No doctor or specialist sussed what was going on with my half my foot essentially *dying* until post amputation. But the orthotics guy I saw afterwards had seen this happen with CP multiple times, and knew why.
The reason CP does what it does to the human body is, (we think) mostly due to brain trauma and hence lifelong neurodivergence. I have a different brain, different responses to proprioception inputs, and other stimuli. I have a different brain chemistry.
(As a sidenote, it's not a neurotypical/autism spectrum binary. Hence the term neurodivergent - because neurologies can be and are diverse, some more extremely than others)
What does my neurodivergence and adaptation to a world built around constructed norms provide me with? Oftentimes, a  whole bunch of pain, and frustration, and often, isolation both psychologically and physically. It is a simple fact that such divergence is often pathologised, and attempts at normalisation can cause all sorts of horrors - internally and externally.
I'm a cripple: my brain has warped the rest of its surrounding systems into a crooked thing. I'm a piece of driftwood shaped by the burning, roaring, waters of existence. I've been tempered by fire (literally set on fire once) and smashed into rocks ( and had them thrown at me). I can see and think in ways most of you, quite bluntly, can't or won't. If I am a monster, by all means, see me shake my gory locks as a spectre of dissolution and decay, if that's what you need to see. I can't stop you.
But looking past the monstrous, passing through it, we find a daemonic, daimonic heart: something that changes shape in the eye of the observer. I'm not on the fringe, not on the edge -  not Outside, but Inside and Down and Up. At the centre.
Am I better or superior to the normalised human? No. But in some cases, I have a very specific set of skills, and perceptions, and in those contexts? I'm better than most.
Am I saying this to self-aggrandise? Not at all. What I am saying, writing, speaking into the world is the heart of what I conceive of, and have named (somewhat facetiously, somewhat not) as #cripkult.
We Always Been Here.
And we know things you don't. In ways you don't. Our worth is in who and what we are - whatever that means for you, in essence, is a byproduct. We generate, simply by existing, an alterity.
I am divergent, neurologically, biophysically, in such a way that the structures and architecture and cultural constructions of society, disable me. Some of my differences also increase biophysical and mental stresses in a way that limit options, narrowing the focus of ability and function - these can be described as disabling in terms of my ability to enact my desires. To argue otherwise is, I believe, just not helpful to anyone.
The point then, expressed in my perhaps needlessly verbose way, is this:
I'm not like you. Physically, mentally, and otherwise.
I have spent nearly twenty years working to accept this; to internalise and root out implanted ableism/disablism, shame, disgust, and fight the desire to self-normalise as much as possible. To go beyond "finding the positive" or "looking on the bright side." To descend into the roots of who and what I am, and will be.
And amongst those roots, I find faces lit by firelight and laughter and song, warmed by fierce cold, and cooled in those same swirling burning waters. Because as long as there's been humans, there's been cripples, and always will be - divergent, bent, close to the earth and the tunnels and burrows that enter Hir - shaping things, singing, altering perceptions.
Hell, I may die early because modern medicine isn't exactly built to deal with cripples (particularly with CP, if you're not a kid, you are basically ignored) which isn't particularly fair. But #cripkult isn't about fair. It's relentlessly bearing down on who and what you are, and all that it entails. It is, as I wrote through the mouth of a trickster Magpie Man in 2013, the Necessary. Or as another friend puts it, "becoming inevitable."
Because there is only us - and those we care for, and those who care for us. All those of us enmeshed in the web. Often, we are neglected, forgotten. Institutionalised or killed indirectly by unthinking uncaring bureaucracy. But some of us survive, thanks to the acceptance of our unique aloneness, and hence the way that same aloneness brings us together to live and play and laugh and sing with others
Some of us may struggle with depression, with suicidality, and some may benefit from treatment, Some may not. Some may leave us to escape the pain - and I salute them and honour them for who and what they were, too. Some of us may endure, weathered by storms of despair and droughts of compassion. Countless other life-paths may exist, crooked and winding. I do not know them all. I cannot. I can only know mine.
And as this has become even longer than I anticipated, I thank you for reading this far, because in doing so, you are treating with me, on my terms. Hearing and perceiving my words in your own bodies,  however you feel them, even if it takes a while to digest and intergrate and understand what I am saying, have been saying, and will continue to say.
Thank you, not for the mercy of your attention, but for beginning to understand the merciless nature of what is being said. What is written here does not depend on mercy - on a grant from another. I, we, do not require permission to embrace this, any more than permission is required for a neuron to fire, to participate in a chain of lightning that cascades and forks through a world roofed by grey October skies and autumn birdsong. That leaves here, to travel by nerve and ibreoptic, to fall onto, into your eyes, like a seed into soil.
After all, cult, culture and cultivation, all share the same roots, down here at the centre of things, do they not?
We are not like you. We Have Always Been Here. Our voices speaking, whether we be Neanderthal or modern human or any of the branches and species of the human tree.
And because of this, well, I suppose it's up to you. As is said: "Would you know more, or what?"

headcanons,,,, please
Ok old ask... Sorry I didn't answer immediately, because even though I have a lot of elaborate headcanons, my mind straight up blanked for several days seeing this question. Are you ready for the answers because a lot of them involves Elves and Trellis
Trellis was the walking encyclopedia in his village. It's a big pain in the ass walking all those stairs for knowledge, so if they want to know something, they'll ask him
Navin has ADHD. More on the inattentive type. No I will not explain this accept it
Humans aren't the original settlers of Alledia. The Elves were there first
Trellis's mother is trying to save Trellis, and thus was raised by her at his first 5 years, before being adopted by his uncle and is raised at their village
The Elves have the Six Monoliths. These are the main cultures upon where its many subcultures cam from, although a more accurate description is that there is one main culture, then branched off into 5, which then branched off even further and even intersecting one another. They represent Gulfen's values and beliefs. These indigenous people involves the same village where Trellis was raised
One of them are a warrior-based people, upon which many of their battle philosophies are based. They are also where the Elf King wears a mask comes from. Every individual in that village wears a mask of their own design and making to represent their "role", and it can change every time. Hence, why the King's role is unique. They are indiscriminate towards other people, and have no qualms of adopting other races, and has been known to adopt humans to raise as their own. They only have one word for parent, but has 65 words for weapons. They also believe in fighting only if it's necessary.
Another group of people are where Elven crafting skills came from. They believe in sharing what you have, and helling those who need help, and often create crafts to help disabled people, if said disabled person wishes so. They also believe the intergration of arts and sciences, and how both aren't inherently independent of one another. They express disdain over Windsor's use of bots and Cielis's robot working force. They feel like they only built those bots not because of appreciation for artificial intelligence, but because "if they could get away with slavery, they would".
The other group is one that values animals and nature. They believe in valuing all life, and to be thankful of your blessings. They are one of the last true hunter-gatherer societies. They show their appreciation towards animals they hunt by making sure to make use of what they have to offer. They believe that one shouldn't take more than what they could give, and hated that animals are used for war, as they are "companions", not "weapons"
Another group is one that honors history through performance art. Be it dance, music, oral storytelling, sign language or the most basic, written down. Many of Gulfen's history, be its most simple and peaceful to it's bloodiest and cruelty, are preserved thanks to their work. They believe in the preservation and the dynamic of culture, and the honoring in one's past and ancestors. That a tree cannot stand tall with its roots cut, and that the imperfections and wrongdoings are the most important lessons. They believe that a person only truly dies if their names are no longer spoken, be it in a negative or a positive way. This people have since then been wiped out since the current Elf King's ascension.
(headcanon that this is where Trellis's mother came from)
This group this time are nomads. They believe in one must be versatile and open to what the world has to offer. This is a source of their inspiration for art, bearing complex and beautiful designs, the most main medium being sewing. They employ geometric and natural designs, taking inspiration from whatever they experience. They have a certain metaphor that the world is a tapestry, and its many threads are the countless individuals that has woven in it, creating its complex, beautiful and terrible designs, and it weaves on and on. They believe in finding value over the simplest things, and one's peace can be found through humbleness and contentment. They are pacifistic
The last is probably the people in the village where Trellis lived in. They are the main culture, so they other five took at least some aspect of it and based their own culture around it. They represent the Elve's values of peace, love of community, righteous combat, value of nature and history, and the honor of one's memories and ancestors. Unfortunately the Civil war and the 50 year war has twisted all of their beliefs into twisted degress so they are all pretty chagrined, and have faced opression since the time of Levitas. There are more subcultures of course, but that's too long
Emily if fine with broccoli but hates cauliflowers, for some Reason
Stengard is sorta like,,, the church of Gulfen. It is also a subculture of the nature/history/nomad people. They call upon the ancestors for wisdom, and that is where the heirs to the throne are "baptized". It's a theocracy, basically speaking, with a High Priest/Pristess with holy guards and other religious followers. No they are not fanatics. They're pantheists. The structure of their building is that there's a lush garden at it's base, an elevated artificial river surrounds it, above it is high openwindows where they feed birds, and within it, is a fire that is never put out, only covered when mourning the death of a King or at war. Maybe I'd draw this (did anyone get the atla reference or). They have nearly the same design as Cielis, because they were built around the same time period and that sort of architecture designs were all the rage among elven architects
Let's ignore canon and let's just say that Riva was there when Cielis lifted itself and left the outsiders (the elves, the people affected by the Kanalian curse, and more) to be killed by the Elves. Hence why "Cielis" was burnt to the ground. A lot of people died, but instead of the outer ring dying out, it became the foundation for a mixed culture and a diverse city filled with oppressed people seeking to find refuge. It became a powerful city after the war and replaces Cielis as the capital of Windsor
After the war, every country hated Cielis because of the shit they pulled before, during, and AFTER it
Did I mention I hate Cielis? Yeah I hate Cielis. The architecture slaps tho
Riva's entire family was wiped out during the shadows invading Lucien because of either being possessed whenever they try to retrieve resources from the sources, or sickness from underground
Max became friends with Layra when he defended her from a bunch of racist kids. He got in trouble with his father because of it, but has spent every time with her family since. He considers them his real "family"
Max has a fascinatiom with Elven culture, in fact, a lot of hangout with Layra involves her talking about stories and whatnot about it
Back then, Kanalis has a huge issue with predator-prey instincts kicking in whenever someone is slowly getting transformed. It has a bloody history as a result. Thankfully a new medicine was invented that kept these instincts in check. After the war, the Council investigated, and finally broke the curse.
Many of the elves from Trellis's village didn't recognize him when he came back. "what happened to your face??" "Scratch that, what happend to your hair"
I have soooo much more headcanons do you even want to hear them

Your home needs to tell the story of who you are and where you are going to.
All the experiences and circumstances that I have been through has shaped my positionality, as well as well as the way I take one's positionality into account when approaching clients in any type of platform. “Every child deserves a champion, an adult who will never give up on them, who understands the power of connection, and insists that they become the best that they can possibly be.” (Rita Pierson), this quote makes me describe my self as a reflection of my where I come from, “home”.
the picture below shows different factors that influence the child’s wellbeing.
Tumblr media
Growing up at home, I had both parents and five siblings. My mother used to take use to Sunday school every Sunday morning where we were taught about different bible verses and how to obey God in every mini second of your life. The thing that they were always emphasizing was love and respect to everyone that you see, regardless of the age, gender, race, status, and sexuality because everyone is Gods creation. This was rooted in our minds, and it has created harmony at home as we always show each other love and respect. Knowing the good result of love and respect from home made me to always approach people with love and respect in the community. Greeting people in a respectful manner and using respect gestures draws their attention to me which has helped me a lot during health promotion at Mariannridge and at Kenville clinic.  Showing people that you care for them portrays love to them which promotes them to be compliant with what you prescribe for them, and it makes them to be more eager to come for the appointment dates.
the picture below shows the goodness of harmony that i grew up expiriencing at home, where each person understood the term of love and respect

As a therapist who was born after apartheid ended in South Africa, I have firsthand knowledge of how the system was specifically designed to oppress black people. In my experience as a rural black woman from a low-income and  under-resourced society (as a legacy of apartheid in South Africa), where the effects of colonialism and apartheid are still felt, where few individuals, even middle-class professionals like teachers, nurses, and city employees, are not familiar with occupational therapy. They treat everyone as a doctor, or a nurse and they do not understand anything else besides getting injection, syrup, and pills from the hospital or from the clinic. This brings up a huge gap between me and my clients in the community because before getting to assess and treat I must always advocate for my profession and give my clients insight on what occupational therapy is about ( Christalle, 2019). Since occupational therapy is a broad profession, I always explain the portion that matches the client that I am with at that specific time, which is not fair enough because it is sometimes hard to sport mental issues by looking at a person’s appearance unlike physical problems. All in all I can say that all health care providers in a community level need to be aware of how our troubled past and newfound democracy affect the health of the community members. As a result, non-standard understandings of professional practice have become necessary (Duncan, 2004).
the image above shows a huge gap between the community and therapy, and how occupational therapist work so hard to intergrate the two.
Tumblr media
Most of families in my community are rooted in the Zulu culture and use traditional medicine as their first option when someone is sick and consider going to the hospital or clinic as a second option when they feel like the traditional medicine is not working. This to me brings the call to consider cultural formulation as part of my assessment because cultural factors do impact the client’s life and it assist with revealing what the client consider as right or wrong (rules or norms) which will lead to the client revealing what he/she need. Culturally appropriate care has the ability to increase the level of trust and communication between the therapist and the patients, which would encourage clients to be fully compliant with therapy and I have been able to make this possible through showing love and respect to my clients.
the picture below shows a picture of traditional medicine that most people in my culture prefers to use compared to werstern medicine

In a place that I grew up from, most people are black Africans like the Kenville population where black women have historically been excluded in most things but labelled as careers for kids or house keepers, and men being placed on a top position as a head to everything with a role to rule and judge. As a young black woman, who has experienced the patriarchal culture it enables me to reach out to people in rural areas where OT has been uninformed, more especially to females who are living according to the societal norms that deprive their opportunity to explore things and live their lives to the fullest. A feminist perspective is necessary to shed light on the gender conflicts and silenced voices that arose because of the emergence of evidence of a dominating patriarchal influence in the growth of what was formerly a female-only profession (Joubert, 2006).
the picture below shows the burden that is layed on womens which limits them to expore other opportunities in life
Tumblr media
The apartheid and colonial policies in South Africa have had an impact on occupational therapy, which has been shaped by these policies to the exclusion of African ideas of healing and treatment in favor of a scientific basis that is skewed toward the West (Joubert, 2010). This has given me a sense of agency, since the OT programs in South Africa are based mostly on western thought, but the communities I want to aid are rooted in African tradition like the Kenville community. This is a barrier but decolonizing occupational therapy may pave the way for more efficient service delivery in local areas. However, the apartheid government did not plan for occupational therapy to help black workers who were crippled as a result of their jobs in hazardous industries including mining, construction, and agriculture. All these pushes me to find solutions that will help us bridge the gap and reverse the injustices of apartheid. My approach to OT will have more of an African context, drawing on concepts like ubuntu's emphasis on helping others regardless of their gender, color, culture, or language. This would guarantee that all members of the community, unlike under apartheid, have equal access to treatment.
the picture below shows our late former president who brought hope in our South Africans. Hope of democracy and freedom that promotes oneness in our land.

Conclusion
My positionality will serve me well in working with different rural communities like Marriannridge and Kenville, since my knowledge of epistemology has taught me that the post-apartheid revival of rural communities' desire for the African values of ubuntu, togetherness, and sharing is a crucial aspect of occupational therapy practice. To maintain healthy societies, occupational therapy programs must focus on uplifting those who have historically been excluded from society's benefits. As a young therapist, I find it challenging to be able to help bridge this division via information and reform. However, before I can bring about such a shift, I need to fully comprehend the extent to which colonial rule and apartheid's lasting effects have harmed local populations. Working in a male-dominated world as a young black woman from a patriarchal culture requires one to be self-reliant and continually resilient to the surroundings and the only way that works for me is to always portray love and respect and always bringing up the voice of ubuntu.
Finally, in my opinion as an OT student, there is a tremendous wealth difference in terms of access to OT programs. However, this chasm may be bridged by expanding access to community-based rehabilitation programs for low-income neighborhoods in the new South Africa.

Let’s talk about this very cocky boy here. This is Valerio Lavellan, a city elf whose mother was Dalish and father was elf-blooded/half-elf and although elf and elf-blooded children look typically more human, Val’s ears are more elf like (still smaller than other elven ears and less sharp) but are really the only thing that give him heritage away (I know the the human gene outweighs the elven gene but fuck its my boy and my headcanon and i said what i said).
He grew up in the Orlesian Alienege before both Templar’s took away his sister for magic, when she was 5 and he was 9, and the Blight stripped him of his parents at age 17 (2 years into the Blight) - he was found burying his mother by keeper at the border of Nevara, having escaped from the Alienege with her whilst his father stayed behind.
Valerio, at 17, was so angry and had all this agression that he didn’t know what to do with so the keeper, a month or so after allowing him to ‘tag along’, finally sat him down in silence. Total silence, for 11 hours they sat just facing each other before Valerio finally broke.
After that, he started to intergrate himself with the clan more, helping with the skinning of animals (his da helped him figure out how to wield a blade first and Maria - an elder woman of the Alienege who babysat Valerio and Salice, taught him how to skin and cook) and cooking, helping with medicine and organic remedies, fixing things, mending sails and clothes. The one thing he wouldn’t do was have anything to do with the children; if they came up to him? He would smile and nod his head to whatever they said and then promptly give them back to their parents or caregiver.
It was almost 3 years into life as a ‘Dalish’ elf that he decided to get the Vallaslin, the Keeper had told him it wasn’t something he had to do but Valerio, after months and years of studying, wanted to. He chose ‘Dirtharmen’ based on the lore, the story of loyalty and faith in family gave him hope, that he could find a family in the Clan and also that he could one day find his sister.
Valerio was, is, independent and doesn’t mind being on the outside, he prefers the responsibility of looking out for and keeping to himself. Which was why the Keeper sent him to go to the conclave, he was already a sneaky boy - having no trouble keeping to the shadows even though he fights best jumping and weeving in and around enemiees - and he practically jumped at the opportunity to go when he was 25.
More facts about Valerio;
- He’s not religious; no elven gods or andraste to worship.
- He’s very human, which is why he prefered to stick the outskirts of the Dalish clan. The clan whom adopted him were very welcoming but they were a whole race of people he had only heard about in stories (his mother had a terrible relationship with her clan and his father had less but equally bad experiences so it twisted his view on the Dalish).
- He’s been called some terrible, terrible things. Both by humans and other elves (dalish and otherwise) the most prominent being ‘half-blood’.
- His sister might still be alive, he doesn’t know where she went or what happened to her (spoiler: she is, they meet again at Redcliff, they have years upon years to catch up on, its all very sweet - I’ll post a picture of her soon).
- He’s really skilled at pissing people off.
- He hates Orlais. Hates. Going to Halamshiral was a fucking horrible experience, having to hear about the purging of the Alienege was...not an experience anyone would foget soon, thank god for the empty wing.

As someone who’s had a chronic illness as a child and a minor-ish disability (bad sight) can I just point out that not all instances of magically curing a character are bad? Even if the character’s condition is canon and chronic (which, by the way, doesn’t necessarily mean that it can’t be cured). Like, both of my conditions were actually cured by the magic of modern medicine and science - and I’m pretty damn happy about it. Claiming that it’d always be offensive to use in-canon magic or equivalent to cure a character of an illness or disability that negatively affects their life just isn’t true.
Sure, don’t wave away a canon chronic illness without addressing it at all - that removes representation. But a story about or with a recovery? That’s just wish fulfillment and it’s fine.
It’s a different thing with, say, disabilities or other conditions that are an intergral part of a character. Aka, autism doesn’t need to get cured.
Hey! I love your writing but I was just reading your “wwx as a disciple of baoshan sanren” fic and I just want to let you know that magically “curing” a chronically ill character is generally seen as a Not Great move. I’m not sure if that’s where you’re going with it but it seemed like it? (If not , ignore this.)
I love all your writing and assume you didn’t know this so I just wanted to let you know ❤️
you know if you'd send me this off anon we could have talked about it but since you didn't -
1. yes i'm well aware of that trope and i agree it's bad but even if that was what i was doing idk how applicable it'd be because
2. since jyl's canon chronic illness is more of the "idk she's just weak what can you do" variety i personally don't judge people too hard when they just kind of handwave it away, which is honestly what happens in 99% of fic
3. the "she gets sick a lot and is too weak to use her sword" thing is how I interpreted her character, not canon. in canon she only gets sick once and it's not even serious. she doesn't ever use her sword but neither does wen qing so that doesn't mean much. they say she's a mediocre cultivator which could be an explanation for why she doesn't use it also? i do like the her being chronically ill thing as an explanation for several things, but that's mostly a fanon interpretation of events we ran with. in canon she kind of has more of a "delicate victorian heroine illness"
4. there is a difference between taking an explicitly canon disabled character and curing them, or making a character have an chronic illness and curing them, and just having a sick character receive a proper diagnosis and appropriate treatment who then improves after receiving proper medical care
5. using cultivation techniques to treat her isn't magically curing her since any mention of cultivator falling ill that doesn't involve "hey lets take a look at her golden core" just doesn't make any sense, all of the well known healers are cultivators, and medical cultivation isn't depicted as a magical cure all with no consequences so it's not going to be one unless the author decides to treat it like one, and i don't even treat literal no strings attached canon magic like that so
anyway the thing that really bothered me about this ask was people taking fanon interpretation and treating it as canon and then "getting mad" (obviously this particular anon was not mad and was nice even if i got irritated about it) at people
but anyway. more depictions of people receiving a proper diagnosis after years of being gaslit by the medical system and then finally receiving treatment for their illness that then leads to a reduction in their symptoms, a deeper understanding of their bodies and their limits, and an overall improvement in quality of life

Well, it feels a bit odd to be closing out a week when there’s been only one post, but since I’m doing a quiet, soft re-launch of my blog, this is a good way to start catching readers up.
What I Read
This week, I finished Sparrow Migrations, The Repeat Year, and Starry River of the Sky. This week was a bit of a mixed bag as I really enjoyed Starry River of the Sky but was meh about the other two reads. The review for The Repeat Year posted yesterday and the review for Sparrow Migrations will post on Monday. I hope to post a review for Starry River of the Sky soon! I went out of town this week and actually skipped a night fo reading, but I was still able to get in a good amount of reading time overall. I’m happy with my reading week!
What I am Reading
I currently have a complicated system of books I read all at the same time. It goes as follows: Children’s audiobook CD for the car: Peter Pan Easy fiction or nonfiction audiobook for working around the house: For the Love of a Dog Classic book reading daily on Serial Reader app: Carmilla Friend book club book: The Color Purple Bed time book: The Woodcutter Day time book: Bad Romance Great Courses book reading through Hoopla: Philosophy of Mind Great Courses book reading through the library: Understanding the Fundamentals of Music Plus a few nonfiction books I am taking forever to get through (see side bar for a complete list)
I started The Color Purple, Peter Pan, Carmilla, and For the Love of a Dog this week.
I think I might have a problem. This week, I added a day time book in addition to my night time book as well as deciding to only read my book club book during the day. I may have over done it. But the book club book needs to be read by Sunday, so it should be off that list very soon and I can get back to a mostly normal number of books I’m simutaneously reading. Which is still a ridiculuous amount.
I started listening to children’s audiobook CDs in the car after I lost Nica in February. I found myself uncontrollably sobbing while driving and decided that had to change. I wasn’t much of a fan of listening to audiobooks while driving because there are distractions from time to time (i.e. trying to not hit things) that prevent me from hearing everything that is said. But I found with children’s books, it’s usually easy enough to fill in the blanks so that I still feel I fully read and understood the story.
In early January, I adopted a puppy. I started reading a bunch of dog training books, watching training DVDs, and attending training classes. And then, I burned myself out on them. Thus, there are a few dog books on my currently reading list that have been lingering there for a bit. There are a few books that are just hanging out on my coffee table. I am determined to get through them, but it’s anyone’s guess whether I will.
At some point, I moved on my from dog training nonfiction craze to intergrative medicine nonfiction craze and thus there are a few audiobooks lingering from that on my currently reading and a few more on my coffee table. I’ve decided to return all the ones I haven’t started to the library, but I am committing to trying hard to finish the ones I started. My biggest problem with those is sitting down to do the practices (I’ve listened to all the rest of the audiobook), but skipping that part kind of skips the whole point of the book, so I just need to find the time.
Well, that was a lot of explanation on why my currently reading list got so long! I’ll save for next week a discussion of why a day time book, the Serial Reader app, and the Hoopla app were added to the list.
What I’m Reading Next
My children’s audiobook for the car is nearly always planned out, so I can say rather confidently that sometime next week I will start When the Sea Turned to Silver. Outside that, I’m not sure. I have a Netgalley back log that I plan on getting to as soon as the Woodcutter is finished. I still need to sit down and plan out when I’m reading what based on release dates. But my next novel will very likely be an ARC.
I also plan on reading another volume of Ms. Marvel this week before it is due back at the library. Outside of that, I am trying very hard to get through all the books on my current reading that have been sitting there awhile because it is out of control!
Well, there’s so much more I could talk about, but that’s enough for now. As I write more of these, it will become clearer what has been going on for the last couple of months and I’ll reconnect with all of you! Glad to be back!
Weekly Conclusion Book Table|Matteo Tarenghi|CC BY-NC-ND 2.0 Well, it feels a bit odd to be closing out a week when there's been only one post, but since I'm doing a quiet, soft re-launch of my blog, this is a good way to start catching readers up.

omg like night in the woods imo is like 90% percent whats up with it is so small but the fact that it was So Close sends me in like bezerker mode
like i learnt that they wrote the end stuff first and then just Didnt re-write it after they got finished with the first half and its soo telling and then they missed the mark with any representation like they have Queer characters but they treat them like preformative rather than fully intergrated characters like their personalities and character arcs resolve in a way thats so AAARGH like the lesbian queerbaiting aside the One confirmed trans character is an antagonist that gets no resolution she shares mae’s feelings about society theres no reason for them not to get along, that whole party set up was just weird???? like why make this like Death To Facistist trans woman character be an antagonist in your game thats focused on these topics hghg??????? and then gregg and angus dont really deal with their baggage and its all pushed on to mae as if she forced gregg to bring knives into the woods that whole ending for gregg and angus route is super weird like we have angus being like i love you both but Differently and thats not called for and mae inviting herself to stay with them as if they didnt just learn about her terrible abusive past and all her suicidal tendencies and arnt like hey, why dont we find a place in the new city for the four of us and split the rent four ways or like its really important that we move but if we cant spend the time with the people we love in our lives the way we want to then whats the point? like literally ANYTHING that ties the themes together and i think ive said it before but within like an hours worth of game play maes character becomes like flanderized you just get dropped that her dad was violent when he drank and he drank with angus’ dad, that shes addicted to flu meds and can barely leave the house shes so mentally unstable and thinks the only way to save anyone is through suicide via elder god and that her mom is like anti-medicine religious person with like overt narc tendancies and all that and we just get defaulted back with character growth like the only thing remotely satasfying is the bea line and thats like queerbaited The Hell and like FOR NO REASON they literally describe EACH OTHER as being their perfect dates??????? hghjghjg and like everything bea does around boys feels like the wildest comp het in a small rural town its like scary seeing that and having the game creators be like haha shes straight like scott whatever your last name is i can and will beat your ass (also the same face she makes when shes scared or really upset is the face she makes when talking about boy dates its like this games equivilant of moans when receiving battle damage like wtf?)
also not character complaint but i liked the subtleness of the It Could Be Real with the gas cause theres also cancer and her moms mischarages and mae being small and sickly and stuff like that and its like almost too subtle that it can be missed but like you can obvi tell the writers were like its for real paranormal tho and like even so it ends up being stephen king style representation, like its told really well its just still kinda ableist like an easy patch for this would have been like Because mae is sick she can contact the gods rather then Is It Delusions or Is It Real like that can be interesting but it cant be done Right like that plotline is literally always ableist when you can be like you have powers cause you are the way you are is like then empowering
anyway thats all the critisism i have in me!! phew
