LMAO In case you were wondering whether s7 of 911 will be subtle about their gratitude/debt to ABC for saving the show, the answer is a resounding no.

Also, I have lost a lot of respect for Frank as a shrink, but gained a lot of love for him as a sass king. "Did she win!?" The murderous look Athena gave him was priceless. I love her, too. She doesn't even need words to rule.

Man, nooooo. Don't give me a mutual "I love you" between Bobby and Athena like that.

9-1-1 is the superior comedy they slipped into our drink, while we were here for our weekly action, suspense, drama and familial love.

Buck broke off with Natalia, and the show really did it like that. XD Every single person who rolled their eyes at this pairing during s6, we were all justified, but wow. The show really is the only forum to respect the pair even less than fandom does. And of course we find out about it in the middle of a scene built around Eddie being half naked, Buck watching him, with the camera specifically turning so we can discover Buck was initially covered by Eddie's body, and the angle change reveals him, when the whole thing wraps up with Eddie welcoming Buck back to the land of the living... Yeah, wonder what made Buck feel alive again. Don't know. 'Tis a mystery. We were given zero clues...

"I want the honeymoon life." *cries* Chimney is just such a good, good man. And okay, expecting your whole life to be a honeymoon's a bit unrealistic, but Madney are living together and they have a child. They know this. Chim knows this, but he still wants to go for it. Aim for the moon, you'll at least land among the stars, right?

Bobby baffled by Athena's reaction to Norman and Lola is hilarious.

I like how Chim has a great idea, but it's still obvious that it's gonna go wrong, because he can't help going overboard with it...

OMG, that scene with Eddie recounting to Buck what Christopher's date was like... If I were to write my Buddie meta, I would serve a three course meal just from that. I mean, the fact that watching Chris hanging out with a girl he likes, makes Eddie compare it to "hanging out with his guy friends" (when there's no lack of interest in this girl... in fact, it turns out that if anything, Christopher's problem is the opposite of a lack of interest) is so telling. There's a reason why that's where Eddie's mind went.

But then also... Eddie's trust in Buck got to me, the way he went to his best friend (not his own gf) for help with Chris. But that was still played with half a smile. But then Buck sort of disses himself jokingly, and Eddie won't have it. "You didn't end up like you." He sees how Buck worked on being a better person, even when Eddie wasn't there for the worst of it, and he appreciates it, and won't let Buck forget it. Meeeep. I love them.

Oh Chim. I was giving you so much credit, and then you went and bought that outdoors jacuzzi. lol Still love him. That's what Maddie's reminding herself of right now, too. ;p

Poor Hen, she was great in this ep, but none of it was really about her, she was comic relief, both with Chim and with the red wire. Then again, she was amazing in this, like she always is with everything.

Eddie and Buck were both so good with Chris this ep, MY HEART. Buck with getting him to talk about what's really bothering him, and Eddie with realizing exactly what his son needs, and how to give it to him. They completed each other. Neither one would be helping Chris without the other one. Tell me again how they're not soulmates?

In conclusion, I love Bobby saying, "Let's go prove one of us wrong," when they're both right. Something WAS going on with Norman and Lola, AND Athena was using them to avoid him.

Argh. That scene of the ship and its passengers being hijacked was rough to watch. </3 I'll still be here to watch the conclusion of this. That's the power of 9-1-1 for you.

It def felt like a great kick to the new season. We had lots of comedy and fun, some great tension, some emotional moments (especially with Christopher), but all in all, it's still clear that the whole thing's a build up to next week. Are you excited?

How long did Sonic exist before Shadow was created? Are his powers the same as Shadow’s or does he have his own unique set? Does Sonic have any Black Arms DNA? Is Sonic close to Maria at all?

Dude I am SO happy you asked, I'd love to yell about him! >:)) Questions are answered out of order here but you'll get the picture! 🤝

Scientists aboard the Ark were primarily focused on harnessing Chaos Energy at the time of his development, so as far as powers/abilities go, I would say that this Sonic's are about the same as Cannon [speed, strength, durability etc] with a little more punch and a LOT more control. He has one power that's unique to him though, an unintended side-effect of sorts, and that's the ability to feel negative energies. Be it literal or emotional. [Shadow damn near gives him a headache sometimes.] But as it stands now, he can only heal minor wounds and illnesses with Chaos Energy.

The research team was adamant that with more training/practice, Sonic could be the key to curing the world of sickness altogether. They tried for a little over a year before it was decided to make another attempt at creating The Ultimate Lifeform, this time with the help of new resources/perspectives. [Less bubbly/more focused, Black Arms DNA, etc] and that's where Shadow comes in.

When Shadow was finally 'born', the team realized that the Black Arms DNA interfered with his ability to control and regulate Chaos Energy, but other than that hiccup, Shadow was EXACTLY what they were looking for. Sonic's purpose changed with that realization. Instead of putting all his training into healing, Sonic was now expected to help his new friend regulate excess energy and learn how to control it. [This fails spectacularly. Shadow's Inhibitor rings are made shortly after.]

Maria and Sonic don't really have a notable relationship at this time, but when Shadow comes into the picture, the three of them manage to form a bond. [Shadow refuses to admit that Sonic is anything more than an annoyance, but we all know he'd blow that station up for him if it came down to it.]

Sonic isn't as close with Maria as Shadow is, but she loves his sense of humor and how he's always finding new ways to get himself into/out of trouble. Shadow is much more serious about rules, and sometimes, Maria just wants to break them. When the urge arises, she and Sonic are partners in crime!

I think that covers everything! I'm sure this will get more development in the coming weeks, but I agree: I'm 100% invested and obsessed with this right now >:))

Hey there! thank you for this ask, it's going to be a long answer so buckle up and get some tea xD let's start with Jelly first because she is still a relatively new OC, I haven't develop her story completely yet.

cw: there'll be mentioned of suicidal idealisation on Raven's part, some canon-typical violence here and there

Jelly's a silly gal, initially the one OC that I want to make it so that she's relatable to most people (around my age at least) and project my chaos and goofiness on. She's bubbly and kind, a bit awkward and sometimes a dumbass but this kindness isn't born from naivety but rather it's a choice. Shaped by her tragic upbringing (when can I make an OC that doesn't suffer? likely never, anyways), she has felt and seen first hand what it's like to be disregarded and overlooked, knows how it feels to be underestimated, to be someone you're not, thus this makes her perceptive to emotions and empathetic. She's the type of person who will go out of her way to help someone, even if it means putting her own needs aside.

She's a bit of a geek, anime, gaming, figurines, fan fiction, you name it she'll love it. Though she doesn't show it outwardly in fear of judgement, you'll see trinkets/merch in her workshop. Though if you approach her on those topic, she'll gladly yap about it with you.

Think of her like a mix of orange cat and golden retriever.

Now when it comes to Raven...oh boy, this one's a lot to unpack here.

The short answer is she's the fem version of Ghost, minus the muscles and repressed gayness (wheeze, no really, I made Raven using Ghost as a blueprint and then slowly expanded her story from there, lazy character making so to speak) but that may offend a portion of people so *cough*

Where do I even begin? xD

Raven's life has been hard since the very start, so she has a different level of mental toughness so ingrained that she often pushes herself past the point of exhaustion, has faced anything and everything from psychological pain to near-death experiences (multiple times). This makes her fiercely independent and rely solely on herself most of the time, viewing dependency on others as a weakness. So she doesn't like getting approached, and would likely ignore anyone who tries doing so.

Despite so, if you earned her loyalty, she will commit and submit to you wholeheartedly. While her past has taught her that loyalty can be a weapon used against you, she still chose to willing go to great lengths protecting the people she thinks are worth protecting for. So, let's just say she has some possessive tendencies. This trait however, is dangerous as well because that made her value her life a lot lesser, her own life is a pawn on the chess piece, a weapon that should be sacrificed for the greater good. It takes a lot of patiences and love on John's side to resolve a big part of that. (Raven goddammit it you are important just as much as Price and everyone else is, doesn't matter if you are useful or not because simply existing, is enough!!)

Ambiguous moral complex, I think that's the word, instead of operating in the black or white, she operates in the shades of gray. She's disciplined and highly analytical, ruthless and heartless when she does, so she can be coldly logical (stole this description from Jack). She has no qualms about deception, manipulation and dishonesty if it meant achieving her goal. This sort of...behaviour of her would make her unpredictable at times, and creates a tension between her and other operators, because can you trust a woman who wouldn't hesitate when necessary?

She has a cynicism perspective in live, which often isolates her from those around her, I could go on and on about this but she views empathy with suspicion, questioning the motives of kindness, which is why she's more reserved and distant to others, detached even. She copes by compartmentalization, which is basically isolating thoughts and feelings separately, think of Raven putting anger, sadness, happiness in different boxes, it's some form of dissociation to avoid feelings because they get in the way of life. So sometimes she doesn't react emotionally towards situation, which makes her seem like a monster. (at some level, she is one)

But despite her being a hardass, she does have a softer side that's hidden. Buried, deep-seated empathy of hers is quiet, almost reluctant, they appear when she least expected, and thus she has a hard time to express her feelings directly. Actions speaks louder than words, afterall. She's the type that shows her appreciation rather than speaking them.

This also, kind of make her awkward in some ways, especially when she's flustered. She wouldn't how to respond to heartfelt compliments or simple act of kindness.

Oh you bought her tea? She'll stare at you for an uncomfortable amount of time before she drinks it and tell you to get the same one next time.

You dust off her uniform? again, stares at you before she awkwardly pat your shoulder with a nod.

In short, she's quiet and reserved, emotionally guarded and cynical. But beneath that hard exterior she's a loyal person who cares more than she likes to admit.

Another Star Wars: Rebels appreciation post incoming under the cut.

One thing about Rebels that people who scoff at it don't get is how it builds. The story-of-the-week format of S1 ultimately builds into a galaxy-spanning 6-episode arc that unites the themes of the past 4 seasons and is just so damn intense in the best way. It'd give you whiplash if you switched from S1 to S4. And yet it never devalues the silliness of the first season! The scope of the show takes us with it on a journey of how Rebels are created, how the characters' own perception of a Rebellion is formalised and evolves over time. And yes, that means seeing them embrace the darkness and difficult choices that come with a growing network whose goal far outstrips its resources. And yet, it comes together all the same- cell by cell, we see how the Spectres recruit and bring together people who join the Rebellion. At the end, as Kanan says, all paths come together- the subtle philosophy of the Force no longer remains separate from the battle on the ground. You need to see Ezra's entire growth to fully appreciate the staggering amount of effort that came into those final episodes.

I won't compare it to The Clone Wars, because that show had a certain constraint with respect to its characters and ending that Rebels didn't, but it does maintain a linearity of tone throughout- gathering darkness on a galaxy-wide scale. That is the story it tells, and it suits the format. But Rebels is about the slightest glimmer of hope shining through a darkness that descended over a decade ago, that seemed impenetrable; a glimmer that through its faith and courage slowly grew into a flame from which the phoenix of light could once again rise (yes, the phoenix was deliberate XD). Please give it a chance- besides, S1 literally is as much fun as you'll let it be.

As for it being childish, it honestly isn't. Not even the first few episodes. The theme of compromise, sacrifice, and forced passivity is there throughout. Just because it isn't present in the dialogue, doesn't mean it's absent. The terror of a slow occupation of Lothal, with the casual appropriation of land and evicting of citizens, is in fact a focus right from the start. And later, we have the central question of "what does being a Rebel really mean" becoming a central part of the show, and we get perspectives ranging from Saw's direct, unscrupulous view of it as a war, to Mon Mothma's cautious, conservative approach that wants to secure the long-term victory at the expense of short-term interests- and we see the Spectres, exposed to both of these, realise that neither is good enough on its own. They find their own answer, but it's not shown as the answer. It is simply that they played the role they were given as well as they could, while somehow maintaining their subjective moral compasses.

I don't even know why I made this post, just... please don't hate on this show without watching it. It introduces so many cool and thought-provoking concepts and its characters have so much heart! <3 (Obligatory "Hera Syndulla is the best- even her archrival agrees" addendum here). The different planets we see, from Mandalore to Geonosis, and of course the villains!! Thrawn is one of the most characters ever in SWR, and the wisely limited apprearance of Vader shows him as terrifying and darkly strategic as ever.

Also a major strength of it, for me, is that apart from a few glaring instances, it's avoided the "telling instead of showing" trap. Quite a bit is left for the audience to infer. You can watch it in any mood, honestly, and you'll have fun. Except the last few ones, uhhh you'll see what I mean.

It's me, the chick who always wants you to explain things xD. I have another polite request (won't be upset if you decline, but I have to try).

I had an epiphany about my posts today - I tag for other people, not myself (twitter influence). And I realized I don't even know how to quickly get to some of the older posts.

And then I remembered your page and how it's all neatly organized xD I previously haven't realized all your tags were actually separating your posts into categories and such... I love it. I had some big brain moments today xD

Would you please have any quick tips (perhaps you already do have them on your blog, I just forgot how to display the blog with the template on) for how to get started with your own template and neatly organized posts you can always find? Maybe even some template creators and such?

I used to do HTML & CSS back in the day, but it's been a long while, I don't have that much time to do trial and error anymore, and any actual coding is out of the question for me. It's gotta be user-friendly. (Free would be best, but I'm ready to reward the work done.)

I'm loving it here now and I post A LOT... I'd hate to reach a point where I don't even know what's on my page anymore.

I've been asked about this a few times, and I honestly never feel I have a good answer for it, haha. I just like organizing and categorizing things, honestly. Best I can do is share my thought process and a couple of handy tools--Hopefully that'll help give you some inspiration!

My tagging habits actually come from ancient Tumblr functionality--Back in the day, the search function didn't exist as it does now (in which it will (theoretically) scan the body and tags in the post), and you could only find posts if they were tagged in a certain way. Sometimes I wanted to post about game stuff, like Dragon Age, but I didn't want my post to appear in the main tag (because of fanwank hell) BUT I also still wanted to be able to find it later because my blog is for me first and foremost.

So I started using "s: dragon age" to gather all things related to Dragon Age (in which "s" in my mind stands for "series") and "g: dao" for posts specifically about Dragon Age Origins, "g: da2" for Dragon Age II/2, and "g: dai" for Dragon Age Inquisition. And if it was a post I did want to go into the main tags, like a GIF set or fanart, I'd use both the default tags (Dragon Age, Dragon Age Inquisition) and my personal ones for my own blog cataloging.

Tumblr search hasn't worked like this in years, but by the time it changed, I was already in this habit for a while so I've just kept doing it. I do change the way I organize stuff from time to time, and there are some tools that make that easier:

Xkit Rewritten This is a life-changer and has a ton of great features to improve your Tumblring experience, but the "Tag Replacer" specifically is awesome if you realize you want to change a tag en mass.

Tumblr Tag List Generator And this is really helpful if you need to do some tag wrangling and figure out what tags you've used. I periodically run my blog through this to catch inevitable typos in tags so I can change them, and see if I can consolidate any similar tags (e.g. catch if I was using both "g: da2" and "g: da ii" so I could figure out which one I liked more.)

As far as the organization itself and how I choose the categories, it's just vibes, haha. It's just how I catalog things in my brain. Which I know is probably unhelpful. Prefixes like "inspo: ###" and "shows: ###" are pretty self-explanatory. "extras: ###" is for the random stuff that doesn't really fit anywhere else, like shitposts and cute animal pics. "topic: ###" is for more serious subjects and discussions, like LGBTQ+ issues. "mine: ###" is for the stuff I've made.

Two things I wish I had done a better job of is 1) organizing other people's OCs by fandom (if you visit me on Pillowfort, you'll notice I use tags like "other's ocs (cp77)" instead of just "other's ocs") and 2) separating my edits tag into a gifs and virtual photography tag. Calling all video game imagery "edits" is also sort of a holdover from Tumblr days of yore, but I wish I had made a distinction there. (I had never even heard the term "virtual photography" until about 2022, though, and I've been on Tumblr since 2010 so yanno. Whatever. This blog in particular is 8 years old, and I'm not sifting through thousands of posts just to amend that.)

And this is a mostly comprehensive list of all the tags I use, if you wanna see the categories and whatnot in action.

With regards to blog templates, I've actually decided to stop focusing on that here because Tumblr has increasingly become a more app-driven userbase, and the pretty blog templates are only visible on desktop. Tumblr also nuked a lot of functionality of the custom pages you can make, which is where I used to keep my tags displayed. I still have a custom theme, but it's pretty bare-bones compared to what I used to do. (Now I get my CSS fix working on my Neocities website, although that is very much still a WIP.)

But there are fortunately still a lot of folks keeping the custom Tumblr themes alive! You can browse some of my personal favorites under my tumblr: themes tag, and @theme-hunter is a fantastic resource to find free user-made templates.

Oh, and because Tumblr is pushing more for a generic and uniform app experience, you do have to opt-in to activate your custom blog. It's this option under your blog settings:

And if you want to view someone's custom blog (if they have one), you'll have use the https://fereldanwench.tumblr.com/ URL. If you want to view the dashboard-like version of their blog, you'll have to use the https://www.tumblr.com/fereldanwench URL.

I was wondering about this, actually. We ended up leaving Gale at camp so we could bring Wyll to the Act 2 final battle; I was wondering if that encounter with the Elder Brain was where, if he was there, he would have to make his decision about whether to explode, or if that was an Act 3 thing. Seems like it was indeed The Moment, and we had him safely tucked away instead. :P

Luckily he doesn't seem too bothered about missing his chance the opportunity.

Hector has the option to interject here but doesn't take it, just listens quietly.

Give him a chance. (to speak, one assumes, although this option could be read as 'give him a chance to blow up' under the circumstances XD )

"The elder brain. But more importantly - the crown that it wore. Even without seeing it for myself, I could sense it. Netherese magic. So pure, so complete, that I doubted what I was feeling at first. Most Netherese artifacts contain only the faintest amount of their former power, the ghost of an echo of a memory. That crown was different. I can't fathom how such a wonder survived. Surely everything of its ilk was destroyed along with Netheril itself... but no matter. It exists, and I must learn more of it."

"What do you suggest?" Hector asks, because this is all rather beyond him and Gale is the one with the expertise.

"We need to learn more about what we saw," Gale says thoughtfully. "An artifact as powerful as that crown must have been documented somewhere. As luck would have it, we'll soon find ourselves near one of the finest book collections this side of Candlekeep - Sorcerous Sundries. I need to go there, and learn all I can."

Briefly Hector feels a sort of wistful regret that they are on the opposite side of the city from his monastery. Its book collection is also quite extensive, and he knows it like the back of his hand. But there is no time...

(A/N: I also misread Gale's dialogue briefly and thought we were going to go to Candlekeep and got REALLY excited for a moment. XD )

"Why would a Baldurian magic shop be the first place we look?" he asks curiously. He has not heard of this shop (or anything else in Baldur's Gate, really), but by its name it does not sound particularly erudite.

Gale laughs aloud. "Ha! Sorcerous Sundries is no mere trading post. It's been serving the arcane community for centuries. Their collection of rare tomes is unparalleled." He rubs his hands together eagerly, with the biggest smile Hector has yet seen on him. "Netherese texts are hardly commonplace, but I'm certain they'll have one or two stashed away. You'll have to forgive my eagerness, but if my suspicions prove to hold water, this could be the answer to all our problems."

His enthusiasm is infectious. Hector finds himself grinning too at the prospect of a quest to dig through the collections of a purveyor of rare historical tomes. This is far more in his wheelhouse than anything they have proposed to do thus far.

As they walk off into the darkness, he and Gale begin chattering excitedly to each other about old books, and Karlach and Shadowheart trail after, highly amused at the pair of massive nerds they are traveling with.

I've actually never read the Odyssey in full despite Odysseus being my favourite since I was a little kid because I've never liked any translation I find.

Hi! No worries, I don't mind replying in any language, as long as I can speak it, of course xD I don't usually speak my native language since most of the people following my blog can't understand Spanish.

In any case, answering to your question: I do have some preferences. I answered someone else before, but I can't look for the ask now, so here you go:

My favourite translation (because it doesn't add random things) is from Germán Gómez de la Mata. The editorial (at least here in Spain) is La Esfera de Los Libros. It's an Spanish translation from a French translation, tho, but it really follows the original text ! It doesn't demonize Odysseus, but it doesn't ignore his mistakes either, it's my favourite to re-read :) Spanish translations tend to translate from another language instead of directly from Greek, since classics sadly don't have the importance they used to have :( but they're usually good !! Lingüistics have said more than once that French translations of the Odyssey are pretty good, which is why Spanish translations use them as a reinforcement when needing to translate.

And now, this is the favourite one from the rest of the people, if you search around the internet, you'll find that the most recommended one is the translation done by Luis Segalá y Estalella. The editorial is LIBRERO. In general, thankfully, it's pretty accurate to the original text. The reason it's so liked besides having some stuff that makes you go ¿🤨? it's because it's translated from Greek to Spanish directly ! It's old, tho, which explains why it's not perfect and therefore, not my favourite compared to the other one I mentioned; perhaps with some luck, classics will regain the importance they had once again, at least the Greek ones, Ancient Rome is very present in Spain at least ^^"

Hopefully one day I'll be able to translate the Odyssey by myself, it has been my main goal since I was a child lol. Makes me very happy to see you've liked Odysseus since you were young as well !! He has been a very important figure in my life since I first read the Odyssey when being 10. It's a hard read when you're not used to all the epithets and long, loooooong descriptions and dialogues, but you get used to it.

2.- Most recent fandom you joined? Not sure if it counts because I've liked the games for actual years and I've just recently got more into them and became more active in the fandom, but it would probably be the Metal Gear series.

I don't watch or consume new media very often unless it's something that somehow takes my whole attention away from what I already like and I'm deep into, so it takes a while for me to get into a new series and fandom haha

5.- Favorite platonic pairing? In Jojo, that would be Erina and Speedwagon!! I love and cherish their friendship so much despite how little we see of it onscreen. This is also why I dislike it so much whenever the "everyone dates everyone" dynamic gets forced on Jonaeriwagon instead of just letting them be a happy V-polycule (not to mention the erasure of all things homo in Speedwagon by shipping him and Erina romantically and/or sexually when that's not even "necessary" for the polycule to work). Someone once said Erina and Speedwagon invented the "girl and her gay best friend" and they were so correct.

6.- Favorite headcanon? Going with Jojo again since that's like 99% of this blog, one of my fave headcanons ever is that of Speedwagon's body being covered by scars from his many years as a criminal (+ all of the more "honorable" ones he got after he joined Jonathan and helped him fight zombies, the one he got from Jack The Ripper, and whatnot).

Related to that one, I love the headcanon that Jonathan too has scars, most of them from his childhood, from his reckless ways (like that time we see him walking on a tree branch as a kid in the manga) and from playing around with Danny by the river, or from his boxing and rugby training. He also still has the scar from the wound Speedwagon caused him with his buzzsaw hat during their first encounter, since he wasn't a hamon user at the time and was unable to heal himself (the wound was said to be a deep cut, so it definitely must have left a scar). The sight of that one scar always makes Speedwagon apologize profusely bc he still feels bad for permanently marking Jonathan's skin with his own recklessness, however, Jonathan always reassures him that it's okay and that he genuinely likes it because, in Jonathan's words, much like Speedwagon's face scar does to him, it gives him personality too, and also "now we match, too, Robert!"

12.- Craziest thing you've ever done as part of a fandom? Already answered this one. This one is not as "crazy" I think?? But I'm adding it anyway as a bonus: I've always had a "if it doesn't exist, then make it yourself" approach when it comes to fandom stuff and spaces as a result of me always getting into obscure and/or unpopular fandoms/characters/ships, and so I always try to find ways to spread the love for what I like and share it with other fans regardless of how big or small the community is and promote interactions as much as I can and etc. This is also why I've kept this blog as some kind of "central" for all things Speedwagon/Jonathan and Jonawagon, for example. It is also why I try to tag every post I make or reblog, to make navigation easier for any and all fans of them who end up here, as I do still remember just how difficult it was to find anything for them years ago, when all you'd find would be "Speedweeeed best gril! XD! le funny memez" full of out of character bullshit.

20.- All-time favorite fanfic author? Probably HamonHugs when it comes to Jojo. Their portrayal of Jonathan and Speedwagon was always so on point and their stories were always so *chef's kiss* and had a perfect balance between fluff and cute moments and super hot and sexy ones too. There was also a fanfic author in the Yu Yu Hakusho fandom that I liked a lot but I can't remember their alias. They wrote some really good KuronuexKurama stories, though, as far as I can remember, they deleted their stories some years ago.

As a small bonus, I wouldn't say it's precisely funny since it's more of a super nice and touching experience I had, but it has happened to me at least once that someone recommended to me one of my own fics, saying it was one of their favorite fics ever and that I should totally read it. This person didn't know I was the author since I rarely ever mention my ao3/wattpad accounts or the fact that I raaaaarely ever write fics, so it was genuine praise. It was kinda odd in the best way possible and it was also super touching in the sense that once more I could see first-hand the positive impact some of my writing has had on someone else, similar to the times people have taken time out of their day to tell me just how much they enjoy my creations, or how happy they make them, whether it's my fics or my art. It's just undescribable but it truly makes my day every single time it happens 🫶

Thanks for the tags @mareenavee and @paraparadigm, I finally have time to write about the idea of Sydari as an NPC/Follower. If you want to do this too go ahead, all my moots have been tagged already because 14 hours ahead also means 24 hours behind in the upside-downundah! XD

Sydari Aralen is a fixture at the Ragged Flagon in the Ratways of Riften, though you'll find she has acquaintances across both Skyrim and, unexpectedly, Raven Rock as well. You'll first find her at the bar of the Thieves Guild hang-out, probably planning their next game night (cards, expensive mead for cheap, a sack of septims or twelve). You wonder where the new Guild Master's priorities lay when this seems to be what their recruits concern themselves with but she says "So long as I bring in coin, Nightingale doesn't care what we do in our spare time, and I bring in ALOT of coin".

You can only convince her to follow you if you make it worth her while. You'll need either 500 septims minimum (but she'll haggle you, she actually wants 1000, and she might throw in a 5000 septim joke, depending on where you find her) or a high persuasion check (you'll at least need to pass a medium one in order to haggle her down from 1000 to 800 and a high one to haggle down to 500.)

You'll find she knows a lot of people and is on a first-name, no-pay basis with Dagur and Haran at the Frozen Hearth in Winterhold. She'll ask you not to mention anything about Riften, or that she's from the Guild. "I have a good thing going here, they don't need to know about that".

She gets cagey on entering Eastmarch, and as you get closer to Windhelm she'll start wearing a hood and face scarf, her demeanour changes and she'll keep her head down inside the city. She'll refuse to enter Candlehearth Hall, insisting on staying "Somewhere she's more comfortable" and won't travel the city at night. If you enter the inn she will not follow you. (With a few exceptions, dunmer are generally not allowed in there in my fic so...) You will instead find her either in the New Gnisis Cornerclub, drinking at the bar or, if you're into lockpicking past 8pm, you'll find she's actually staying at Sadri's Used Wares.

Press her (achieve a medium persuasion check) and you'll find she's been in a dysfunctional on-and-off again relationship with Revyn Sadri for a long time, and they sort of just fall into that pattern whenever she enters the city. (Her relationship with Brand-Shei is also contentious, he won't sell to you if she's present, finding out why is another persuasion check, though it's dependent on how much she likes you. They had a messy, messy not entirely finalised divorce).

Pass a high persuasion check and you'll find that she grew up in the Gray Quarter, she did a lot during that time that she'd rather not do again, if you press her further and fail the persuasion check she'll leave your service. You'll need to pay her the full 1000 septims (she won't haggle), or you can get her a gift (you'll be able to get her a gift later anyway and you can't spam the same thing). If you bring her some Nightshade, Deathbell or Lavender she'll be delighted. (She really likes purple flowers, no one ever buys her flowers, buy her some damn flowers LDB).

If you didn't fail the persuasion check then she'll spill, she'll tell you that she grew up doing whatever she could just to survive, and when her brother, Edras died she sold herself as well. She hates Windhelm, she would rather avoid the area, and to be honest she can't really be there. She'll tell you there's a high bounty on her head because she beat the brother of Galmar Stone-Fist half to death after he violated her. She still leaves your service but you won't have to pay her again. She usually goes back to Riften. After some time, she'll ask you to help her out with a heist, it'll be a random necklace, ring or circlet. She just wanted to float the idea across.

If you dismiss her after this she won't go back to Riften. Think of it in a similar way to the missing follower bug, but she's not actually missing, she's scripted to go to Raven Rock.

Eventually, she'll send you a letter asking for your help, she wants to fund an expedition but also steal the spoils right out from under the crew. It's expensive and she says she'll totally split the reward three ways. You just have to come to Raven Rock and hear her out.

If you do go to Raven Rock and take her up on her offer you'll find her at the Retching Netch. She'll either be sitting at the bar on the bottom floor or she may be sitting opposite a masked mercenary on the top floor laughing about gods know what. She seems more cheerful in the ash wastes, though you can't understand why.

Her personal quest ties in directly with Unearthed. You'll meet the um other "investor" and find that the two of them have come up with a ridiculous plan to swindle Ralis Sedarys out of the Relics of Ahzidal. The two of them (Sydari and her Mercenary friend) thought they could bring in another partner (they don't need one they just don't want to spend all their money). You find the whole thing suspect, and you ask her whether the Guild Master knows she's doing this? To which she replies:

"Hun, I am the Guild Master, I can do whatever I want".

If you do go along with their plan you can try to get her to turn on her partner (this will not work and she'll kick you out of the group, you don't get any rewards). She'll warn you that it's non-negotiable, you now have to deal with the two of them as a package deal. She's much more talkative and relaxed at this point. You can give her a gift here, it'll be a diary from her mother that you find in one of the abandoned houses in Raven Rock. It gives her some answers about where she's really from and the kind of person her mother was. She's forever in your debt from this point on and won't just randomly leave your service though you still can't ask her to swindle the Merc, it's non-negotiable.

If you turn them down you'll find them later at Kolbjorn Barrow, wrangling a possessed Ralis. If you intervene and don't kill him then she may let you keep some of their loot. If you kill Ralis she'll be upset but thank you for at least helping out, she'll tell you there's probably some loot left over in the tombs, she and her partner seem to have filled their packs with loot and touching it will turn them both hostile. Please don't turn them hostile, you're not going to have any fun.

She'll stay on Solstheim from that point onwards and will offer you training in Stealth. You'll get the odd random event where she might pop up in Skyrim stealing from any of the Jarl's residences in almost every hold (Windhelm she just won't touch). She can also be used as a fence.

As far as combat is concerned she's mostly ranged, she uses an enchanted Stalhrim bow called "Ice". She also happens to wield a curious Daedric dagger with a unique enchantment "The Razor" (I have her using Mehrunes Razor in game so it's kinda just a thing). She wears a full set of Nightingale Armour (which is also an alias she shares with Karliah) and knows two spells, Lightning Bolt and Soul Trap. She only uses Lightning Bolt and does so sparingly. She's not a marriage option for a few reasons, which you can probably figure out from dialogue.

When i write one of my favorite parts is connecting things with small but important details. It's like creating a chain. And i see this part as something very simular.

“Maybe it is the curse of our family,” she mused, “that in our attempt to escape our own misery, we cast misery upon those we care about.”

Henry did this.

There's also a detail I won't spoil for others but that also connects here. (If you know you know)

(Full transparency, I don't know that much about the Alder king yet because Henry and Aiden have my heart and time, but if i were to guess that will also connect here)

BUT!

“Maybe”, Nyx continued. “if we would just work together instead of trying to solve all our problems alone, we could finally put an end to all that misery.”

Aiden stayed with Milan for years. Aiden went to look for his brother. Aiden has been doing what Nyx is saying here his whole life and this connection is why he's a great protagonist.

Or this is my interpretation, anywaysXD But even if I'm completely wrong, these elements do parallel echother, which is objectively great!

I also love leaving small hints in my writing and connecting details! It’s really fun! Sometimes I even leave little hints without even realizing it, cause I’m so much into this story xD

You connected the dots very well here! Henry did indeed just what Nyx said. So did you-know-who ;) And so did Nyx’s mother.

But it is also true that the Alderking did something quite similar. Cause in the very beginning, it all started with the wish to bring his family closer together again.

I’ve been drawing little parallels from Henry to the Alderking right from the start. Though wildly different characters with different motivations and stories, they do have stuff in common. And I’m not just meaning the fact that they almost look alike.

The thing about this story is that protagonists and antagonists are not as different as they seem.

(For example, if just one detail about Henry’s backstory would change, if he was raised by his father instead of his mother, he would be standing on the antagonist’s side instead.)

There’s a lot of motivations and wishes and pain that all these people have in common.

With what Nyx says in the excerpt, she does what we both like to do: she draws a parallel. Between her family and Aiden’s. Between their individual misery.

And she is calling out Aiden, too. And with him, herself. Because while what you said is right: Aiden did stay with his father and he did go to look for his brother, he still tried to do all of that alone.

Because that’s a thing in his family and it is one in that of Nyx, too. They each think that in order to solve their misery, they have to do something about it all alone.

The Alderking didn’t try to find a solution with his siblings, he found one for them instead, without even asking. Henry didn’t talk to Aiden about their situation, he took it in his own hands by leaving.

Morena didn’t ask her family what they really needed, she made an assumption and stuck to it. And Aiden didn’t ask for help when he needed it, he tried to handle everything alone and solve everyone’s problems because he couldn’t solve his own.

Nyx didn’t really ask for help either, she thought she alone could stop her mother. But at this point of the story, now that she saw all her mother did and now that she saved Aiden, she realized that she can’t do this all alone. Neither of them can.

So it’s not just a statement she makes when she says maybe if they work together they’ll make it right. It’s an offer. One to put differences aside and finally start working together.

Also, it’s her sympathizing not just with Aiden’s situation, but with that of Henry, too. It’s her encouragement for Aiden to forgive his brother. Just like she learned to forgive her sister.

I know this post is kinda old, but I'm slowly re-entering my JCS phase and figured I might as well 😅

My all time favorite Judas is Josh Young from the 2012 Broadway revival (I'm pretty sure the fandom calls him "Bludas" and I just love that so much <333)

First off his voice is IMMACULATE. He has to opt down in some spots but when he needs/wants to, he goes UP there and it's AWESOME. He's got my favorite versions of "On Thursday night, you'll find him where you want him..", "Well now I despise you!", "Cut out the dramatics!", "..than the things you say!", and "..save him if I could!" And his ad-libs (..or is it AB-libs...) during "Superstar" are just SO good. Although I've never been able to tell what he says after "Now I am damned" 🤔

Now this is more of a directorial thing but I absolutely love how throughout the show you can just feel Judas' appreciation, admiration, and love for Jesus, like how physically affectionate he tends to be with Jesus (which makes The Kiss hurt even more). Every moment he has with Jesus you can tell he really only has Jesus' best interest at heart. You understand why Jesus separately calls him out instead of lumping him together with the rest of the Twelve in Poor Jerusalem, as they're so incredibly close.

You can feel his turmoil and anguish when he has to come to the priests, you feel his despair in "Judas' Death", and his "Superstar" feels so urgent and confused and bitter; less like he's begging/pleading Jesus or celebrating but demanding that Jesus give him some sort of answers.

God!Dream

Honestly I can see GD not liking the idea of you too much. Like he doesn't hate you as a person, but your actions are what he hates. GD does have a little bit of feelings for you, and mainly wants you to stay with him. He doesn't like the idea of you just walking around for all the other gods to see. So whenever you do find yourself making your daily patrol, be sure to keep an eye on the clock or he just might keep you there a lot longer than you want...

DreamXD

XD would likely just ignore you in the beginning, not wanting to go through the effort of getting to know you when you just appear for a few seconds before walking out of his domain. It's not that he hates you... He just doesn't care...or that's what he told himself. XD is more likely to watch you from afar, and then create a distraction or an accident in his domain to keep your attention on him. But that only really happens if he's super jealous. Most of the time he is fairly content with just watching you, until he sweeps you up and takes you away from all those other nasty gods!

God!Wilbur

Wilbur would probably immediately notice you, and try to get some information out of you. Such as: Who are you? What are you doing here? What is your purpose here? And etc. He's likely to immediately catch feelings, and starts to get upset if you try to leave. Wilbur will likely from then on try to make you catch feelings. If he is being honest, he much prefers his darlings to actually love him back…You don't really have a choice when you get to leave Wilbur's domain… It is HIS domain. All you can do is pray that you don't peak his interest.

God!Ghostbur

Like Wilbur, he would immediately notice you. But instead of interrogating you he would give you a warm smile and a great greeting! But..also like Wilbur, he will be quick to catch feelings. He isn't nearly as forceful as the other gods. If anything he's nothing but a gentle puppy compared to them. He'll try his best to impress you and make sure you smile every time you come and visit. And slowly, ever so slowly you will find yourself becoming more and more entranced with him. You see his tactic is to make you obsessive over him. Pretty sly huh?

God!Technoblade

It is likely that it will take Techno a few days to acknowledge your existence. But do not let your guard down to your reader, he is fully aware of your presence. He's just too caught up in battle plans too want to say anything. Techno is more likely to not catch feelings very quickly. It could take him anywhere from a year to five years, but once he does catch feelings he is quick to get to his feet. And before you even know it, you'll be caged in his arms like the good little dove you are. But the majority of your visits will basically be you talking and him giving simple head nods.

God!Schlatt

HA! You'll be lucky to get this man's attention. He'll be too caught up in his feast and his wine. Likely the only reason he actually saw you was through the reflection of the red wine in his glass. He'll demand who you are, and what you are doing there. And once you answer his more or less demanding questions, he will offer you a small bite of his feast. Say. No. And every single time, keep saying no. Schlatt will eventually stop asking you, But congratulations! You got another God's attention! It won't be long before you're sitting in his lap while he feasts away on the human flesh...

Yeah I definitely think part of it is the 'some portions of the audience struggle with nuance' aspect but -- forgive me for 1) using this as an excuse to ramble some more and 2) making it about Star Wars (that will come in in a minute, you'll see, I'm sorry, I can't help it XD ) -- this also points to a specific problem some people have: knowing when something is directly connected to a specific plot or character development, and instead thinking that specific thing is making a blanket statement.

So with John, I think the flags that suggest he's lying or stretching the truth, are meant as character reveals. To answer the question of 'what kind of person would lie about there not being another way during the original lyctor ascensions' (something we already knew from Harrow) and to show how much he's running from his own vindictive nature. (And possibly other things, I'm open to unpacking the lies more.) But people end up taking it as 'he's a lying liar that's lying about literally everything'. And while I'm willing to see other specific interpretations of the purpose of the obvious lies, I can't see it as a blanket statement about the flashbacks as a whole.

Similarly, I've seen a couple posts (here's where I make it about Star Wars, sorry again), that use Deva's line from Defy the Storm about 'knowing things that would make [Vernestra] renounce her vows' as proof of like 'see the Jedi are the real bad guys, clearly they've been doing all this evil stuff behind the scenes' when it's fairly obvious that that line is meant to specifically foreshadow Vernestra finding out about Elzar's murder of Chancey Yarrow (and hiding it and not facing consequences). I don't actually think it was meant to signal anything else.

Like both of these devices are pointing to a specific thing, I doubt meant to make a blanket statement, but I think some people struggle to identify that and end up applying characterization or foreshadowing to a narrative as a whole.

(the comparison to Deva also brings up another common point that some audience members really struggle when characters say things with conviction that aren't actually right but that's for another post lol)

In the Locked Tomb discourse I try to forget and fail, there’s an extreme contingent that’s like ‘John lied about literally everything, he was a terrible scientist to begin with, the cryo project actually failed and he just pretended they got shut down because he's an evil liar, etc etc’ and I will never believe that, first because I think the signals that he’s lying about some things (‘what’s the difference?’ in Harrow, in Nona when he ‘forgets’ to resurrect people) is meant to foreshadow he’s lying (also to himself) about who set off the first bombs, because it was G--'s bomb that triggered the nuclear cascade, SECOND because I think this series is so much more ambiguous and nuanced than that, and third—

This just feels SO true to life. The way people in power shift goalposts and blame when they turn on you. This feels so true, and his anger feels so real. He's definitely padding the truth and downplaying his vindictiveness pre-crisis but I 100% believe that the trillionaires did this. And all the cow stuff, caring more about hypothetical cows than the real people they were leaving behind? That's SO real.

as for why the shut down the cryo project, I find it also totally believable that the backers got a sexier offer. They got an offer from someone like the Elongated Muskrat, one of their own (white, comes from family money and a business background), the sexy and exciting FTL plan that allowed them to live out the fantasies of colonizing new planets, having space adventures, without having to do the tiresome work of repairing the damage they'd done to Earth. I think that makes sense that they're like 'ok let's ditch the annoying scientists who keep harping on us about maternity, we can be like Star Fleet!'

wait FOURTH clearly the cryo does actually work, given that he renews the Ninth with people he's held in storage since the resurrection. One could argue that that was only after he became a necromancer, but I think that's getting too complicated, when the simplest answer is the cryo did work and the necromancy just smoothed out the last wrinkles.
