And Don clearly cares for the Reader and their well-being even though he's more straight-laced and hard around the edges, as evidenced by his actions: being concerned about you overworking yourself, offering you a second job working with him which you KNOW he's going to be giving you better pay than at the diner, his compassion for Lucy's situation....

I'm kind of just lowkey interpreting every single character as yandere. Peter is obviously yandere, Lucy is obviously yandere, I'm convinced TK is the one who wrote uhhhhh that disturbing stuff on our time card but I suppose it's possible Peter stuck back there after TK clocked us in and was too preoccupied covering our shift to notice, and the way Don kind of is instantly suspicious of Peter and offers help to you reads of "im watching over you and protecting you" vibes

Also did you know the person running the official YB blog, Red, is the voice of Lucy? Just a little fun fact!

But yeah I've only played through the game a few times and I definitely need to play through it more cause I doubt that I've seen everything and the creator mentioned on the patreon that there are more routes/options that are going to be patched into Day 3 in the future so 👁👁

On the other hand I hope they can figure out the stuff with the link. It's just so incredibly disrespectful how minors are treating this situation, not only deliberately posting that they're accessing the game, but even posting the game's download link for other minors and people who haven't even paid which is fucking theft. ‘Okay, I’m sure I’m not the only one who wants to know why the hell we should do this’, Captain Fowler sighed standing in front of the briefing room. ‘Just so you don’t give me shit, my superiors decided it’s necessary to do some image polishing. We will hold a baking competition next Sunday. The revenue will be donated to New Jericho to help newly deviated androids after the revolution.’ A collective groaning passed through the rows. Most had hoped to use their free weekend in other ways than bake something at work and even those who had to work on Sunday had better things to do. ‘Right. Now to move on to the second point on my list. Nines? If you were so nice to stand up?’ All heads turned towards the new face in the force. An android that looked uncannily familiar to Connor and gave them all an uncertain little wave of the hand. ‘This is Nines, an RK900 model. He is our newest Detective recruit from the Academy. Be nice to him.’ More groaning. A baking competition was bad enough, now they had another damn android in their ranks. Perfect. But Fowler was quick to silence them: ‘By the way, I knew I had to give you all an incentive to perform your best in the competition. Reed hadn’t had a partner in a long time. Whoever performs worst will be partnered up with him.’ ‘The phck?’, Gavin revolted instantly and the rest of the DPD had a similar opinion about it. Fowler ignored the comments. ‘And- Whoever performs second to worst has to show the newbie around.’ Again the group started to complain, but Fowler just smiled and left, his amusement barely hidden when he ordered: ‘Dismissed!’

 Gavin spent his free Friday contemplating over his cookbooks. He knew he wasn’t the best with baking. He occasionally made bread and he was able to cook some basic meals. He hadn’t much time to do more anyways and he didn’t bother too much with it. His cupcakes were decent enough, he thought. But they didn’t really taste good. And he needed to be good. The moment he had seen the new android, he had decided he wanted nothing to do with the man. He looked like Connor, he seemed to behave like him, and he was an android. Enough reasons for him. So, he definitely didn’t want to be second to worst. But he could do that, right? He would practise a bit and simply recreate the recipe on Sunday. He would practise until his cupcakes were perfect. It would be an easy win.

On Sunday, half the DPD’s bullpen was redesigned as a makeshift kitchen: Mobile heating plates were installed, and Mixers stood all about as well as portable ovens. Most of the DPD that had been condemned to take part in the competition already milled about. Gavin repositioned his heavy bag of ingredients, bowls and utensils on his shoulder and headed for a station in the far end of the room. Until Tina held him back and gave him a little piece of folded paper with an evil smirk. ‘You are the last to arrive, Gavin. So you end up with the last person not partnered up yet: Nines.’ ‘The phck?’ Gavin unfolded the paper and evidently, there was the name RK900 written on it. ‘You are supposed to work together on this and produce two different pastries. Did no one tell you?’ ‘No!’ ‘Well now I have’, Tina laughed at him. ‘Consider it a team building exercise.’

Gavin went to his station and glared at the android that joined him as he entered the bullpen minutes later. ‘Hello, my name is Nines’, he introduced himself, holding out his hand. Gavin ignored it. ‘I know. Name’s Reed. What did you plan on doing?’ ‘Cupcakes?’, the android offered, letting his hand fall to his side. ‘No phcking way. That’s my thing. Choose something else!’ Nines looked to the ground. ‘I can’t do anything else.’ ‘Then download some program or something.’, Gavin groaned already frustrated when they hadn’t even started. ‘That would be cheating.’

Gavin stared at the thing, thoughts of murder running through his head. Alright, that wasn’t too bad. He thought to have memorised the recipe from a cake somewhere… It would work, they would be fine. He just had to be better than second to worst. He would manage. ‘Alright, then let’s begin, tin-can.’ The android systematically began adding ingredients while Gavin began preparing the oven and the cupcake tray, all the while watching Nines’ hands. ‘Hey, don’t you think you should weigh your amounts first? Instead of just throwing shit in?’ ‘I don’t need a scale. I can measure the force of it on my hand and subtract.’ Gavin shrugged. Right. Android. ‘Alright, let’s put them in the oven and be done with the first hopefully better-than-second-to-worst batch’, Gavin announced, his mood actually not too bad realising that he had spent barely an hour here and already had their first project in. ‘It hasn’t reached optimal pre-heating temperature’, the android disagreed. ‘You kidding me?’ ‘No, the recipe asks for 176.67 degrees Celsius. It takes the oven 14.7 minutes to reach that temperature.’ Gavin looked at the android truly rethinking his life choices. ‘And what would that be in normal units?’ ‘The metric system is the “normal” for most countries and apart from Kelvin, what isn’t commonly used out of scientific-‘ ‘What is it in Fahrenheit?’ ‘350°F. We still need three more minutes until-‘ Gavin grabbed the tray and slammed it into the oven, causing a bit of the dough to swash over the edge. He didn’t care anymore.

Nines blinked at him, but apparently managed to accept what happened. ‘What did you plan on baking, Detective?’ ‘Phcking told you already: cupcakes’, Gavin hissed. ‘The task was to create two different-‘ ‘I know!’, the man shouted and earned some surprised looks from the people around him. ‘I phcking know, let me think for a minute!’, he demanded a bit quieter once they had turned back to their stations. But the android actually shut his mouth for once. Gavin turned to the ingredients he had left. He had to remember the recipe for a marble cake. He had baked this cake every year for Eli’s birthday when they had still lived at home. You wouldn’t forget something like that, surely.

He patted the egg carton before opening it. You needed eggs, that much he was sure of. How many? No idea. Butter and flour were a must have in every recipe and they still had enough of that. Sugar and baking powder. Maybe milk? Maybe not? He remembered rum was also part of it, but they didn’t have any and borrowing some from Connor who was working on something ambitious he had currently set on fire to be fancy with the glazing felt too much like admitting defeat. Cocoa-powder and chocolate also laid on the table. He shrugged. So much for practising the entirety of Friday.

Gavin went on with mixing his ingredients together. Like always he feigned total confidence despite complete nescience. He added what he felt was right, using the scale to determine an amount that sounded convincing enough. He decided against the milk in the end and ended up with two batches of dough that could be the real thing. He was quite proud of himself. Both batches had the right respective colour and a consistency cake-dough could theoretically have. He was about to go on with it, as the android next to him opened the oven. ‘It isn’t ready yet’, Gavin commented absent-mindedly, still looking at the bowls. ‘They will take a few more minutes.’ ‘How do you know?’, Nines asked. ‘Doesn’t smell right yet’, Gavin said. ‘But the recipe spoke of-‘ ‘Recipes are lying’, the human interrupted. ‘You need to feel when they are ready.’ ‘Feel when they are…’, Nines seemed to mull it over, but then shook his head. ‘I don’t think so. The first recipe for cupcakes was written in 1796. One would think they got the baking time right by now.’ With these words, Nines took the tray out of the oven, continuing to lift them onto a plate by tugging them out by the paper holder. ‘Well it’s your pastry’, Gavin shrugged, thinking that the machine just added one project with the potential to be a phck-up to the pool. More chances for him to succeed. With a sigh he added both batches of his dough to a ring cake form and put it on a tray. Now he just had to wait for it to bake and felt quite confident of reaching his goal to be at least third last.

‘Okay then, let’s look at the results!’, Fowler announced once all stations were cleared. ‘First we have Connor!’ He went over to Hank and Connor’s table. The cake looked like the pictures in a cookbook, something you would never be able to recreate, and the damned android did it. It was a very ambitious take of a layer cake with cream and a flambéed glazing. Phcking show-off. Hank had prepared macarons that apparently tasted delicious. Well, that was to be expected from an android and a family man. Next up were Tina and Chris. Tina had made an assortment of tiny cakes with different toppings and tastes. Gavin knew first-hand that they were amazing from all the times she had made them for their movie nights. Chris had opted for a simple yet suasive apple strudel. Again, probably taught by helping his wife. Wilson and Person had created waffles and pancakes. Gavin was tempted to call that cheating, but they had also prepared trimmings of hot cherries, cream and cinnamon apples. Why hadn’t he thought of that?

As Fowler walked over to their table, Gavin held on to the hope that they would be better than Person and Wilson just because they had put just a bit more effort into it. But his heart sunk as he tasted a cupcake and scrunched up his face in disgust. ‘The dough is still raw inside!’ Immediately Gavin hoped that his would be the worst. If he was the absolute worst, he would be partnered up with himself and Nines had to show his phcking self around. That would be fine. That would be perfectly fine. The other way around though… ‘Okay, Reed, this is cake, but it tastes horrible.’ Well shit.

‘Let’s conclude!’, Fowler announced in a festive tone that made Gavin sick. The Captain had immense fun by doing this, Gavin was sure of it. ‘Nines is partnered up with Gavin, Gavin shows him around, and everything except of their projects will be sold to raise money for New Jericho!’ Gavin and Nines used the short break to look at each other in fear of the things yet to come. Fowler turned to them and grinned knowingly. ‘Case closed!’

Life Reset Plan

Okay, things are shit now. But they don’t want to stay like that. You know how to make it better, you just got to do it. So, as always, let’s write it down and get to it, yeah?

Step 1: Life Cleanse

Start by cleaning your room. Open all the windows. Light a candle, start an oil diffuser, just make the air breathable. Strip your bed and wash everything. Sheets, blankets, pillowcases, everything. Throw them all into the wash. Maybe use some extra soap. Some essential oils. Whatever makes you feel good. Then take everything you own and put it on your bare bed. Alright, now you got until the washer and dryer are done to go through all your shit and decide if it stays or goes. (For me, that’s about 1 hour and 15 minutes) Don’t spend to much time on things, you don’t got a lot of time to spare. Most things should be decided instantly. Pick it up. Do you want it? Not an immediate yes. Get rid of it. Donate it. Sell it. Trash it. Just get it out of your life somehow. Now that you know what you want to keep, give them a home. Put them away in a place that makes you feel good and where it could stay forever. Good. Now brush off or vacuum your bed and make the bed. Tuck in your sheets. Fold your throw blankets. Make it look comfy like those beds of Instagram girls and people who have their lives together. Wipe down any and all surfaces. Desktops, windowsill, bedside tables. Make them fresh and clean. Sweep and mop or vacuum your floor. Make it a space that you feel good walking around barefoot on.

Move onto the rest of your space. Repeat everything here in each area of your pace. Bathroom? Throw the towels in the wash, put everything on the floor or counter, go throw it all, clean your surfaces, put everything away, sweep and mop. Kitchen? Empty cabinets and fridge, get rid of old/outdated foods, things you’re not actually ever going to use, consolidate herbs and spices (looking at you, four things of cinnamon), wipe out the inside of cabinets and fridge, put everything away, wipe down counters and stovetop, sweep, mop. Etc, etc.

Lastly, cleanse your technology. No, don’t just wipe down screens. Delete everything that doesn't make you happy. Apps, files, photos, songs, accounts, contacts, etc. Be aggressive with this too. Anything that doesn’t immediately make you feel good, get rid of it. Unfollow accounts that make you feel bad about yourself, that waste your time, that doesn’t inspire you and bring you joy. Yeah, that paper you wrote in school and got an A, delete it. Unless you feel like you’ll use it for another class or research your doing. This is nuanced advice. Adapt it to your current situation. If anything, put it in the cloud. 

Step 2: Personal Cleanse

We’re going to start physical and work our way inwards.

Take your old clothes off. Take a shower or a bath. A good long one. Spend at least twice as long as you normally do (unless you normally take hour-long showers, you know, be reasonable), wash your hair, condition it, wash your body, use a sugar scrub, wash your face, exfoliate, hell even brush your teeth. Do whatever you need to do to make yourself feel clean and rejuvenated. Don’t do something just because I said to or someone else said to. Do it because you feel good doing it. Don’t shave if it’s not your thing. Don’t put a face mask on if it’s not your thing. Again, nuance. Dry yourself off, put lotion on, put on your favorite outfit, do your hair, do your makeup, make yourself feel good by looking good. But looking good in a way that makes you feel good. Don’t like makeup, don’t wear it. Your favorite outfit could be sweatpants and a sweatshirt. Could be a suit and tie. A dress, a romper, whatever. Even a simple pair of jeans and a t-shirt. Now, find a way to simplify this routine. Make it a daily thing. Shower every day if it makes you feel good. Use a sugar scrub three times a week if you want. Make a personal hygiene routine that makes you feel your best. You can use mine as an example but definitely take everything you want and nothing you don’t.

Okay, now look inward a bit. At your habits. Do you like them? Do they make you feel good? Do they depress you? Make you feel like a failure? Try to think about everything you tend to do, no matter how small. Write them down if you need to. Make a list and go through each one by one with an overly critical eye. Really consider the place of that habit in your life. Take the ones you want to quit doing and make a plan to quit them. (Maybe read ahead a bit in case they are similar to the ones I’m changing in my own life so you don’t spend all this time on it just for me to go over it again more in-depth) Now, think about the habits you want to have. Do you want to be a runner? Do you want to wake up at 6am every day? Read before bed? Draw daily? Write them all down. Then think about why you want to do them. Because they make you happy? Because someone else does them? Because you were told they were good for you? Again, be overly critical. Only accept the ones that are purely for yourself. Don’t wake up at 5am because someone once told you that that’s how you have a productive day. Do it because you love the quiet stillness of waking up before others. Or because you need that time to do other things that purely make you happy.

Lastly, look at your emotional health. How have you been feeling recently? Good? Bad? Depressed? Really ask yourself some personal questions and be honest with yourself. Again write it down. In whatever way is best for you. Maybe that’s a brain dump or a Level 10 Life approach. Whatever works for you. Now, think about why you’ve been feeling that way. Is it other people in your life? Could you remove them from your life or sit down and discuss with them how they have been impacting your life or find ways to healthily deal with them? Look at all your relationships. You never know where draining and/or toxic people may be when you don’t look at them critically. Is it your habits? Well, we’re already working on that so good job! Is it where you live or work? What can you do about those? Move furniture around? Buy new art? Move? Change jobs? Ask for a promotion? Find out what you need and go get it. Ask for help, build a support network, find the people who truly care and want to help you and utilize them. You’re not a burden or bothering them. fAnd if you are either understand that they may also be going through some tough shit and need to take care of themselves first and that’s okay or maybe they weren’t as good of a relationship as you thought. 

Step 3: Social Cleanse

I know we just talked about this, but I want to go into it a bit more.

Look at all your relationships, Family, friends, love interests, coworkers, etc. How do you feel about these relationships? Can you discard them if necessary? Or reinvent them? Analyze all of them and make a conscious decision to keep them in your life.

Want more relationships? Find out how you personally make new ones. Do you go out places and strike up a conversation? Go to a cafe or store and find someone to talk to. Even a brief compliment or something you notice. See where it goes. If it doesn’t have the effect you wanted, try again. Not everyone is going to be your friend and that’s okay. We’re here for true friends, not superficial ones. Do you meet someone online? Download some apps. Be active on forums. Talk to people. State your intentions upfront if it may otherwise be ambiguous. Or do you prefer meeting people through others? Talk to your friends. Ask them about friends they have told you about. See if you all could do something together. Express interest in the people in their life and they’ll maybe introduce you to them. But they definitely won’t if they don’t know you’re interested.

How about yourself? Do you like yourself? How you treat yourself and others? Are there mannerisms you don’t like that you have? That you wish you did have? List them out. Really think about how you react to certain stimuli. If someone compliments you, how do you handle it? If they demean you, how do you respond? You don’t need to go through every little reaction right now, but stay mindful of them. If you notice that there’s something you don’t like, make a mental note of it and come back to it later. Why did you not like it? And, again, make sure you don’t make decisions based on others. Really think about it and decide if you want to make a change truly for yourself or for someone else.

Step 4: Building Your Life

So you got all your stuff figured out. A super clean space. A group of good friends. An understanding of your own feeling towards different aspects of your life. Now that you know these things, change the things you don’t like. 

Start with routines. Make them as strict or leisurely as you want. Set a time to wake up, a time to go to sleep. Figure out what you need to do every morning to have a good day, every night to have a good sleep and/or morning. You can look at mine for some ideas. Are there other things you want to do every day? Maybe you want to talk a walk during your lunch break or pick up your space every evening after dinner. Decide on things that you want to do every day and make them a routine. Put them in your schedule. Commit to them. Do them every day. Make weekly routines too. Every Thursday you do laundry. Every Wednesday you go grocery shopping. Every Monday you plan your week. Make as many or as few routines as you need to be happy with your life. Eventually, they will just be another part of your life and you won’t need to think about them anymore.

Then, focus on your habits. You’ve decided which ones you want to get rid of and which ones you want to start. Make plans for each and every one of them. Make a plan to quit smoking or spending less time on social media. Maybe that’s setting a limit. And that limit can be just as many/much as you’ve been doing. But now you’re limited to that. Then reduce it by a small bit. Instead of three cigarettes a day, limit yourself to 2. Instead of 2 hours on social media, spend 1.5 hours. Continue reducing the limit little by little until you’re at a point you are happy with and isn’t interfering with other things you want in life. Want to start a habit? Do the inverse. Start small and work up to your goal. Want to wake up earlier? Wake up five minutes earlier? Or even just work on getting out of bed right as your alarm goes off and then work on getting up earlier. 

Step 5: Living Your Life

It’s a process. Creating yourself is a process. You’re not going to have it all figured out in an afternoon. A lot of this is things that will slowly develop over time. You can do your initial overhaul but always come back to things. Review how you’re feeling and how things are going and make more changes as you need to.

So go out, live your life, continue to grow and work towards being the person you feel most happy as, and never let anything stop you.

An automatic payment is going through on Monday, and it'll leave us with $20 until July 1st. It's not enough because we need a few things.

Kitty litter - Cacoa needs both her litter boxes flipped. They have about two inches depth each, and it needs to be twice that.

Laundry - we use the laundromat to wash our clothes, and dry them at home. I have just a week's worth of underwear.

Food - our fridge is getting bare. My husband is diabetic and nearly out of food he can safely eat. One of my medications causes constipation and watermelon is the single greatest treatment to fix and prevent it (I take supplements and hydrate all day). Oh, and we're nearly out of protein options.

Fuel - we need to put fuel in the car; currently we have half a tank of gas.

Medication - Medicare won't cover two of my allergy meds because they're cheaper over-the-counter. I'm out of one and nearly out of the other. Without my allergy controlled, my asthma gets significantly worse, and I develop sinus and ear infections. Those infections require antibiotics, and I have a long list of antibiotic allergies.

A/N: I’m so sorry this is after Christmas but it’s so sweet and the love of my life requested it so...and I also kind of made the shopping slightly featured I’m so sorry but ;) this is actually the most cutest thing I’ve ever written. it’s just sweet and I love it and it’s also pretty long lol. Merry (late) Christmas everyone!! 🎄🎁

It was Christmas Eve, and Ben had surprised you with a little getaway. It meant a lot to you since Ben had been so busy with interviews because of the Bohemian Rhapsody movie.

It was going to be your second time spending Christmas with him. You were ready to have some time off with your boyfriend and to be able to relax for the holidays. 

“You ready, babe?” Ben asked, holding a duffle bag and suitcase. He was waiting for you to get all your things together.

You were running around the place since you had no idea where you were going with him. You rolled your suitcase towards Ben with a bright smile.

“Okay! I’m ready!” You were very excited and you couldn’t wait. The two of you put your bags into the back of Ben’s minivan and started to drive towards the unknown destination. 

Although during the drive, you had decided to download a load of Queen songs, despite Christmas just one day away. You played ‘Radio Ga Ga’ and Ben instantly started to sing along. It was like a musical experience for both of you.

“Ben, why can’t you just tell me where we’re going?” You asked with a big pout. He let out a slight chuckle.

“Well if I were to tell you, it wouldn’t be a surprise now, would it?” He responded. You knew he loved to make things more mysterious and he also knew that you couldn’t stay patient for long, so you decided to do what you did best.

Sleep.

“Fine, but I’m going to take a nap, alright? Don’t get too lonely,” you poked your tongue out and pulled the blanket from underneath you. It didn’t take that long until you fell asleep. 

You felt Ben lightly tapping your shoulder, which meant that the journey ended and it meant you were finally at the surprise location. It was just about past four o’clock and you felt a bit chilly, even though you were still warmed up by your blanket.

“Come one, Y/N, time to wake up,” Ben said softly, leaning close to you and kissing your forehead.

You looked out the car window and saw a range of shops along the street. As well as lots of Christmas decorations and fairy lights around every single shop.

“This place is beautiful, darling. All the shops look so adorable!” You turned towards Ben and planted a quick kiss on the cheek. He saw how happy you were, and it brought him so much joy.

“Thanks, babe, this is one of my secret locations I always go to during the Christmas season. And I wanted to make sure this year was special,” Ben smiled, reaching to hold your hand. 

“Thank you for sharing it with me then. Can we please go shopping?” You put on your best puppy dog eyes and he immediately nodded his head ‘yes’. You were just too adorable to resist. 

Not only were there streets full of shops, but it also seemed that there was a whole market square filled with freshly baked treats and homemade Christmas gifts. 

“Oh my goodness, look at those reindeer sugar cookies!” You held Ben’s hand and pulled him towards a market stall that was owned by an old lady. She looked very sweet and she obviously noticed that you two were a couple.

“Aren’t you both the cutest. Here for the holidays?” The old lady asked with a bright smile. 

“Yes, my boyfriend surprised me and brought us here,” you answered, picking up a packet of six sugar cookies and handing it over to pay.

“And we’re actually staying one of the cottages here,” Ben continued, handing over some cash to the lady.

“Wait, really?” You blurted. You had told him just two days ago that you’ve always wanted to stay in a cottage for Christmas, and you obviously didn’t expect it to happen already.

“You’re the best person on earth Ben Hardy,” you pulled on his hoodie to pull him into a kiss. It was short and sweet since you realised you just buying cookies. 

The stall owner smiled at the two of you and spoke, “you both are very sweet. You’re both lucky to have each other.” 

“That lady was telling the truth,” Ben held your hand and you started to blush.

You continued to walk through the market whilst holding Ben’s hand and bought more goodies for the cottage that you were going to be spending the next few nights. 

Ben led you towards a stall that had a bunch of children’s clothing and took a child-sized shirt and put close to you. “Aw, look babe. I think it’ll fit you,” he teased and for some reason, he was laughing historically. 

You rolled your eyes, “ha ha, very funny Ben.” And that’s when you started to walk slowly in the other direction.

“Come on, Y/N! Let’s take some photos!” Ben called you over while you were walking away. You decided to turn around, heading back towards him. 

Although before you followed him into the photo booth, you saw some Christmas themed headbands and accessories. You grabbed a few coins, put them into the donation box and grabbed a Santa hat and reindeer headband. 

“Here you go,” you placed the reindeer headband onto Ben’s head and you couldn’t help but giggle at how cute he looked. You slipped on the Santa hat and started taking the photos. 

Flash. You both smiled. 

Flash. You both made silly faces.

Flash. You winked at the camera. Ben looked at you in a loving way.

“Okay, what do you want to do for the last-”

Flash. Ben cupped his hands on your face and pulled you in for another kiss. This was another thing that you didn’t expect. And it lasted a longer than the one in front of the cookie stall. He pulled away from you, leaving you wanting more.

“Why don’t we go to our little cottage now?” Ben questioned. 

“Lead the way,” you whispered in his ear.

As soon as you got the cottage, you were in awe. It had obviously been snowing for a while which made the cottage look like there was icing sugar everywhere. You could tell that it was cozy inside, even by looking at the exterior.

“You’ve really outdone yourself, Ben,” you said and you were so impressed with everything you were seeing right now. You quickly took all of the bags from your shopping and headed inside the cottage. 

Immediately as soon as you entered, you saw a beautiful Christmas tree that was decorated with silver and gold. Along with a fireplace that had a wreath above it, as well as candles that were lit around the living area. 

You had placed the bags of goodies on the floor because of Ben lifting you over his shoulder and lying you down on the couch. 

“And what do you think you’re doing Mr Hardy?” You giggled.

He suddenly started coming closer and closer to your face, with his lips very close to yours. You closed your eyes and waited.

“Why don’t we watch some Christmas movies, have some warm drinks and snuggle up together?” He said backing away from your face. 

“Now that sounds amazing. And I’m hoping that I can get a hot chocolate?” Ben nodded and left you to go to the kitchen.

While he was making drinks, you started to set up a few Christmas movie classics and put down a bunch of blankets and pillows on the floor. You sat down with several blankets around you as you waited for Ben.

“You look so cute with all those blanket. Let me join in,” Ben placed your large mug of hot chocolate beside you.

He somehow also got into the bundle of blankets and planted another kiss on your cheek. You smiled and rested your head on his shoulder. 

“I love you, Ben. Merry Christmas”

“I love you too, Y/N. Merry Christmas.”

We had a great time chatting today with @impala-dreamer!! Thank you so much, Beka, for joining us!

We talked about self-publishing through Amazon, how to do it, what the benefits are, and the challenges to making a finished product. A rundown of the chat, as well as some general Pond news, is below the cut!

Q: What sort of music do you listen to when you write?

Beka: Oh, uh... Well, Actually, I have a lot of playlists on youtube. So it depends. I have a hardcore smut list that is just music that gets my hips moving... then a romance thing which is feely stuff. A "Deanspiration" list that oddly has zero Zepplin in it, just stuff that reminds me of him or gives me ideas. Sometimes I hear a song and it instantly snaps an idea. I write to music a lot.

Q: For everyone, do you reblog everything you read or do you think likes have the same “power” behind them?

Beka: No. If I read it, I reblog, unless it’s iffy. Iffy means, I read it, but wasn’t up my alley or I think it would be too triggering for people. I avoid those types of fics, anyway.

@mrswhozeewhatsis: There is a very small percentage of things I read that I won't reblog, but then, I haven't really read them, I've noped out for one reason or another. Usually grammar/formatting or content, not writing style, to be clear.

@girl-with-a-fandom-fettish: I guess one reason I suck at reblogging is a lot of the stuff I read has nothing to do with what is currently reblogged on my blog and that just doesn't match in my very matchy brain...is that just me?

@mrswhozeewhatsis: I believe that everyone should be able to put on their blog what they want. Some folks see their blog as a collection like in a museum. Some folks, like me, see it as more of a news feed. Collectors are less likely to reblog because they're carefully curating their blog. My advice to collectors is to then make a side blog where you can reblog the things you don't want to collect.

Q: What’s the biggest challenge you find in writing?

Beka: I think the biggest challenge for me is writing in the moment. I can't write if it's not flowing, and sometimes I try to force myself just to get the story out bc i fear i'm letting people down by not posting enough? But it’s not good when I do that, so I have to let myself go with the story that's with me at the moment. Sometimes it's two at once, like today. lol. Also, Sam is hard. (heheh no really, he is. also he is. but pg13)

Q: There are so many questions to about this process!

Beka: I do really get asked about it a lot, and it's really not that hard once you do it. It's annoying to navigate and decide what you want to do, but it really is awesome and not too frustrating. Amazon is really great because they do have an extensive help section AND message boards so you can ask and talk to other self publishers so it's like having someone with you.

Q: You said you chose to publish through Amazon. Out of curiosity, were there any other ways you heard about or considered before you settled on Amazon, and if so, was there a specific reason you didn't use them?

Beka:  I'm basically a Google fanatic, so when I decided to do this, I had no idea what I was doing so basically I goggled "How to self publish a book" and there were THOUSANDS of sites thrown at me. I honestly can't remember the other sites I looked at, but it basically came down to amazon was a company name I knew, I trusted, and had the best help and resources. And I have a kindle, so I figured that was easiest. I think I only looked into one or two others but I can't remember what they were. Amazon just stood out.  I did read up on like actually doing it yourself like through a book binder and all that and it was SOOOO much work this was just the easiest and most cost effective.

Q: Okay, but with Amazon, do they, like, own part of your content if you publish through them?

Beka: NOPE. I hold copyright to all my works. they just are the people who produce the actual physical book.

Q: What was the time frame, like from start to finish, I guess? Or the process if you don't mind. What did you have to do to get set up with Amazon?

Beka: Ok- so getting set up was easy. if you have an amazon account, you're good. Or you just make one. then there is a website- kdp.amazon.com -and they literally walk you through the entire process.  Someone up there asked how long it took -  I rushed it. my novel started as fanfic, which I wrote in about 2 months, then I took 2 weeks re-editing and changing to non-fanfic, then about a week editing again and formatting and then i had my hard copy. So, all in- maybe 3 months, but the actual amazon stuff takes a few days to get you a book in hand.

@kittenofdoomage: One thing I will say about Amazon, it's very convenient but I struggled with the covers and formatting.

Q: Did you have to use special software to submit your work?

Beka: I write in google docs, but amazon no likey- so I had to move everything over to Microsoft Word. and from there it gets updated. HOWEVER, there is now in beta testing an amazon program which I downloaded for my 3rd book but was too frustrated to figure out so I never used it. it's specifically for Kindle, but kindle didn't like my poetry format so I couldn’t do it.

@kittenofdoomage: They have step by step guides. And I use Google Docs, too, but you can download into a PDF or .doc file from there.

Q: So it's not a copy-paste thing, you upload the completed file then reformat it for amazon?

Beka: well... it's two different things for paperback and kindle. There are specific formatting guidelines for paperback such as margin sizes and gutters and such so when you turn a page it's not all wonky. Kindle formatting is MUCH easier to do. you just upload and it does it for you. The files for paperback need to be formatted with specific things. it's not hard... just annoying.

Q: You mentioned changing your fanfic into non-fanfic. Does that mean you can't have any fan elements in a story to publish it?

Beka: Well... my novel was basically a J2 x Reader BDSM fanfic, and so I changed J2 to original characters, I changed the show, the car, the everything. If you know that I write SPN fic, and you read it, you can see it's clearly SPN, but those who don't know SPN don't know that, because I've asked. lol. Also- someone read it recently and thought the Jared character was Jensen, so I guess I changed it enough.  I personally would not publish anything that actually said SPN or J2 or anything because those are copy-written characters and not mine so it does seem illegal to make money off of them, ya know? 

@mrswhozeewhatsis: It is actually illegal to make money off of fan fiction. The WB owns the characters and the show. If anyone else tries to make money off the characters or identifiable elements of the show, the WB can sue and win.

@kittenofdoomage: Those who use Patreon are covered under fair usage only because Patreon is a donation site.

Q: Were there any parts of the process that surprised you?

Beka:  Honestly, the entire thing surprised me. I went into it like just to see if it was possible and then i realized- I CAN’T publish my work. they WILL sell it. People WILL buy it. and it was all very shocking. It was scary, and I know people are intimidated by it, but it really was simple in the end, and if you want to do it- do it. It's awesome to look over at my bookshelf and see my name on actual, physical books ya know?

@kittenofdoomage: I was the same, Beka. I procrastinated for months. And okay, it wasn't a huge success but I learned from the first time, bettered myself the second time, and now.... I'm procrastinating again but that's not the point lol

Q: How much money do you make per sale?

Beka: It depends on the format and the cost you put. Like, for my short story and poetry book I make PROBABLY a few cents on it. My novel I make around $2 depending on the price I set. You set the selling price, and you can do sales and freebies. 

@kittenofdoomage: You can choose everything. They tell you how much you'll make from each copy sold.

Q: Do they tell you how much other authors sell similar works for, to give you an idea what others think is reasonable?

Beka: Yeah, you can look it up, too. They have a chart that's like, "This is your sale price. This is how much we take to make it. This is how much you get," and you can fiddle with it.

Q: Is there any kind of marketing happening on Amazon’s side, or is it all you?

Beka: They can do promotions, but you have to pay them to promote it.

Q: Did you look into promotion costs through Amazon? What kind of money are we talking, here?

Beka: Honestly, I don’t remember. When I see a fee of any kind I run for the hills because I'm cheap like that. lol. It's prob not too cheap BUT they also have this thing you can sign up for that's like a library kinda deal where your book can go on the free book a month kindle deal- i didn't do it bc you don't get royalties for it. but more people read it? idk what's best. It's all very over my head marketing.

@mrswhozeewhatsis: I guess if you're looking to become a popular selling author, and you have the cash to pay to promote it, then after a few books, it would pay off when you develop an audience.

Q: Do you think self publishing is the way to go long term, or maybe a better in terms of testing the waters? I realize you are still in the latter stage but I'm curious about your opinion...

Beka: Here's my thoughts: I used to be a singer/songwriter. I played in Manhattan. I had paying gigs. I recorded an album. I thought I could make it work. But I didn't go for it. No one handed me a record contract. I let it all go to have my kids and family.  I want to write. I realize no one's gonna stick their hand out and hand me a publishing deal. BUT I might be able to pay some bills with my books. I might be able to write enough, well enough to sell some books. and if i sell enough books, maybe a publisher WILL see me and then I can attempt the next stage.  I think self publishing is great. Why not? Do it if you want to do it. If you want to write, write. If you want to share it, share it. Who's to stop you? And if you can share it through self publishing with people all over the world?? freaking do it, man. 

Q: What is your best piece of writing advice?

Beka: OK, my best writing advice is... See it, feel it, write it. If you don't feel what you're writing, I'm not gonna feel it reading it. I think i'm more of an emotional writer than a descriptive. I can't tell you what the room looks like that they're in, but I can tell you how it feels that Dean just stepped on that Lego. ya know? Idk. Write what you see and feel, and put yourself into it, and it'll be amazing. 

Q: Are you a planner or a pantser?

Beka: Planner? SOMETIMES. It depends. I have plans for series, but shorter things I just go with the flow. I'm constantly messaging Ashley like "DEAN JUST DID X. I DID NOT SEE THAT COMING!" lol

Q: Do you outline at all, or just have a general goal in mind?

Beka: I do outline series. but not... strictly or drastically. Like, right now i'm working on a series for my kink bingo that's alternates between the brothers. I have a general plot line over all to follow, but i've also set it up like c1- flogging. c2- spanking, etc. 

Q: What is something you know now that you wish you knew before you published?

Beka: I think I'd tell myself to not worry and just freaking write what I want.

Q: Do you have a writing schedule or something that keeps you productive?

Beka: No. I try very hard to have a schedule, but I'm a little... slightly... bipolar I think and my writing follows my moods. I can write 20K in a weekend and then nothing for a week. I just literally ride the wave of ideas. Like, currently I'm in a slump. but I wrote 10K this week before the slump hit. It's quite annoying.

Except for some general conversation about the stupid places and times we all get ideas and the incomprehensible notes we’ve all left for ourselves, the chat ended. A good time was had by all, I think!!
