God is this true. Remember making friends in childhood? It was SO EASY! You'd see a peer in the classroom or on the playground and basically say to yourself "I pick this one," ask them to play and the rest was history, viola! You had a friend. Today everyone is avoidant and/or focused on themselves all the time. And don't get me wrong, taking care of yourself is important, but damn community is valuable too and as human beings we were not created to be alone but to have a tribe that vibes with us surround us in love and joy. Last year two really important friendships bit the dust in my life. While it's true I do have many friends the issue is they are mostly superficial and surface level. No one really knows me on a deep and intimate level. I don't have anyone I can call and count on to hear my problems at 3AM and as far as I know I'm not on anyone's 3AM call list. In part I may keep distance with others now because every time I have let those walls down I've been betrayed and/or abandoned. Making friends is easy. Keeping friends is hard. I mean, real true blue friends. Truthfully, I don't need a TON of super close friends. I'm cool with a small handful in keeping my circle tight. But for now I can't even form half a circle. It's quite isolating.
