How long have you been creating works in fandom spaces? How long have you been active in the SM fandom?

Since Dec. 2004, I left for a bit around 2009. And finished a story in 2014. And then I've been back since 2018.

What type(s) of creative works do you usually make? (fanfics, digital art, cosplay)

Fanfics - I have no art skills per se.

What do you enjoy about creating for the SM fandom?

I just hope to touch at least one other person. Once in a review, a reader said I made them cry. That's why I write.

Also in 2005 I won 2nd place for Wishing You Were Mine in the annual Sailor Moon Readers Choice Fanfiction Awards.

Are you strictly UsaMamo or do you create for other pairings as well?

I create mostly UsaMamo, but I did kill off Mamo as a hero so Usa could have Seiya. Makenai is one of my favorite stories, close to my heart, because Seiya loved her too.

What inspires you to create works for Usagi and Mamoru?

Sailor Moon changed my whole life in all the best ways. I didn't meet anime until 2001. I saw Sailor Moon on Cartoon Network first. Then on 12.8k dialup = Low speed. It took three days for the first 350 megabyte fansub episode to roll in in one and two kilobytes at a time. It was instalove! Sailor Moon is my comfort go to. I love both the old and the new. Chef's Kiss. I love many anime thanks to Sailor Moon, my GOAT!

Usa & Mamo just have such a complicated vibe. It's a real joy to sink into and see how they come together.

Do you tend to work on multiple projects (WIPs) simultaneously or try to finish one at a time?

I only write one at a time. My focus is there 100%.

Do you prefer large projects (chaptered fics, webtoons/zines, highly detailed art) or small projects (one-shots or simple art)?

All of it! I love the art, the zines and all the fics.

Are there any common themes, situations, tropes, or mediums in your work?

Yes...I try for a mix of like romcom Motoki's Grand Adventure. But if you look back, I've stretched into other genres, like paranormal with Grave Danger. I wrote a fairy tale, Curse Of The Frog. I wrote the hardest story Holding Out For A Hero. It deals with Child Abuse. It's also close to my heart. I wrote a kind of Phantom Of The Opera inspired Story - Fantastic Journey. Mind Games covers domestic violence. I just go where my muse leads.

Is there anything you haven’t explored artistically and would like to try?

Not yet, but Goddess only knows where my muse will drag me next. I've got a lemony Haruka/Usagi project I'm tinkering with.... 😍🥰😘

THE NEW PROJECT: VAMPIRE BLOOD WARS

This week I've been neck deep in brainstorming and outlining a massive 10-book project. This is a kinky, M/M/M/M/M why-choose/harem story about a human and his collection of vampires. Warnings for lots of explicit sex, blood play, violence. This series is leaning heavily into the sex-or-die and sex-is-power tropes (also sex pollen adjacent), so if that's your thing, you'll want to stick around. Book 1 alone has like 4 sex scenes out of 10 total and I had to cut one for flow that I'll write as a bonus. V spicy.

Like Fated, above, the vampire series is part of a series of anthologies that will be released over the next year and a half. When I get the rights back I'll be publishing them indie, but that's a long way from now. First I gotta write 10 books 😂

The Anthology series is called Blood Wars, so that's the tag I'll use for the series. Each book will get its own title tag too, for people who want to follow.

This week I did a rough Save The Cat 2k outline of the major plot of all 10 books, then a very detailed 8k outline of book 1, Vampire Mated. Each novella will be about 20k in length, the last one will probably be longer out of plot necessity.

Monday I'll start drafting.

NEW PROJECT X2: ANTHOLOGY WORKSHOP

And finally, I'm moving rapidly into a second major project that wasn't supposed to overlap with vampires when I agreed to it But here we are.

I'm participating in the Anthology Workshop put on by WMG Publishing. https://wmgwriterstore.com/ This is the first one in several years and I'm very excited to be involved again. They collect a bunch of amazing editors and assemble calls for submissions, which participating authors have one week to write for. (6 anthos, 6 short stories, 6 weeks in a row to write and submit) AND IT STARTS ON MONDAY.

And Then! In August, all of us descend on Vegas to listen to the editors debate each story and buy the ones they love most for their anthology, which is then published at .06/word (pro rate) by WMG Publishing.

The last time I did this I only managed to write 3 of the 6 stories, and none were published. But it completely altered my business path for the better and I've since sold many shorts to other magazines and anthos! Some to those editors that didn't take my workshop stories.

It's also a big opportunity for networking with other authors and professional editors which is both 😱 and 😍 thankfully, this time, I know many of the people attending.

So THAT is happening.

Next week I will check out the first anthology, but I already know the theme (ghosts & taverns) so unless an idea hits me strongly with the call for subs, I'll be skipping it to write on Vampire Mated instead. It's just not my genre.

Because, btw, Mated is due July 1st.

wait!!! discuss what you meant about dutiful love I have NEVER heard of it before

oh hi!! so basically (to the best of my understanding), there are two ways to look at romantic love in relationships in the context of the modern and premodern era (nebulous line dividing the two, you can kind of think of like industrial revolution, east asian countries opening the borders and making contact w the west, “globalization” etc etc basically just westernization). i mainly did sinocentric asian studies, so that’s kind of the framework i’m working with.

so back in Them Old Days we had arranged marriages. under confucian norms, women were confined to women’s spaces indoors and not let outside to the public. when it was time to get married, it would usually be the father/parents arranging the marriage (but if you look at stories like scholar yi peers over the wall or the song of ch’unhyang the faithful wife you can see that there is some deviations— these characters did experience attraction and have a real choice in their partners, but ultimately they chose to conform to the norms and get their marriage approved by their parents and all that, which is what allowed them to remain morally pure in the confucian standard) so obviously people didn’t have a lot of agency over who they spent the rest of their lives with, especially women. the idea of “dutiful love” or “romantic love” was the kind of love you would grow into in an arranged marriage (provided you followed your confucian social role) based on a mutual respect and kind of pure love for each other, kind of like the idea of an inherent respect a father would have for the mother of his child. they didn’t necessarily choose each other, but what they had worked and they did have a very real form of love for each other, and it’s not based in lust or sexual attraction, but duty and respect. this is of course assuming a very ideal situation. i’m not here to erase the negative experiences of women who lived under confucian rule/norms/law for thousands of years.

under these same confucian norms, it was somewhat socially acceptable for a married man to take a concubine, or otherwise be unfaithful to their wives in the name of momentary sexual attraction/lust. normally, the most pure confucian man would not engage in those kinds of relationships, but i think that was kind of a tall task for them lol. the reality is that lust is a natural human experience, and that 99.9% (not an actual statistic just hyperbole) of people have lust and/or are sexually attracted to other people. the idea of this passionate love is based in lust though. it’s basically like you meet someone immediately, maybe you have an instalove trope lol, and you immediately hop into bed with each other and have this wild, passionate affair that lasts a short time. when you follow these relationships through, they usually don’t end up panning out long term, bc it’s hard to maintain that sheer level of passion for a lifetime together, ifykwim. in lots of stories from the premodern era, passionate love and their resulting relationships were thrown into a very negative, immoral light. love often makes people do crazy things, so maybe there’d be this dude who meets a girl younger than his wife and immediately is like 😍 and then ruins his entire life just to have a short affair with her. that’s kind of the idea. (i’m thinking the tale of genji and his affair w the empress. who i think was actually his stepmom)

nowadays it’s a cultural norm that we can freely fall in love with whoever we choose, and we choose who to spend our lives with. women are no longer confined to the indoors from literal birth until marriage. things have changed. if you’re coming at this from the perspective of the premodern “romantic love” enthusiast, it can seem like society has abandoned dutiful love and now people base their lives around passionate love, which explains high divorce rates and marital unhappiness or whatever. i don’t think i have to really explain why that’s a wack perspective, like very black and white thinking, no nuance, etc.

in my opinion society hasn’t abandoned this dutiful love. it’s really hard to maintain the honeymoon phase of a relationship for years and years, so while a relationship may start on passionate love, if you stick it out long enough to make sure if you’re right for each other, it turns into a combination of dutiful love and passionate love. kind of like the idea that love is a choice, and you choose your partner every time.

in the context of the post/tags i’m assuming you saw me talk about dutiful love, i wanna be really clear that i have very complicated feelings about the idea of dutiful/passionate love, and that any statement i make where i just blatantly favor one over the other isn’t made in seriousness. i do think anna karenina and romeo and juliet are good examples of why following passionate love and immediately changing everything about your life for it can be massively problematic, but i could do a whole other post on just my in depth opinion. i don’t want anyone to get the wrong idea :)

sorry if this is indecipherable, i’ve literally been conscious for a total of like fifteen minutes and i haven’t had to articulate my thoughts on this subject in a hot minute. if there are any asian studies scholars that disagree or if there are any misconceptions/mistakes in the framework i have, lmk!! i only have a bachelors, and im eager to learn more. thanks for asking!!
