Katrina started these guys at the beginning of the plague. Kept going back and touching up the sanding,carved a bit more, sanded again, a couple of times before doing a hint of wood burning. Then they sat on my window over my desk when I started moving into the wonderful work shop Coop built for me. I fear I have become attached to them! I brought them with us, just in case, but kinda planning to keep them. The #marylandrenaissancefestival has been so incredible that we can’t keep up! Following the Lotus Flower theme from yesterday, here is Coop’s Lotus Pentacle. This is one of our hidden pentacles, hidden within a more intricate flower design, it may be displayed when it is not safe or appropriate for a ‘standard’ pentacle. This stylized design can be recognized by other believers, but is less apparent to outsiders and is less likely to cause problems with non-pagan family or in the workplace. Looking through the stock for something else I (Katrina) found these Flowers! We don’t often have the Hummingbird variation, I believe it is the third one I’ve done, so I thought I’d post it. Then found out I hadn’t gotten around to adding it to the store…sigh…It is now. ⁠ Katrina designed the first of these Celtic Flowers on a Hurricane Sunday 4 years ago at the Maryland Renaissance Festival. The large flower with the Celtic Knot Flower and Leaf came first and the Mini next. A custom request created the Hummingbird and Flower. When researching the meaning of the Prayer Against the Plague cross, this some of the historical information I found, “In medieval and early modern Europe, textual amulets on parchment and paper were often inserted in sacks or suspension capsules that could be worn around the neck and over the heart, or alternatively bound to an afflicted body part for focused healing. Others were posted on interior and exterior walls to ward off evil, just as apotropaic inscriptions were displayed on doors and lintels of buildings for blessing and protection.” I figure we have the doors and lintels covered with our carvings, but we are modern! I have the pictures here, a T-Shirt is much better than “suspension capsules that could be worn around the neck”! So I headed to our RedBubble shop…T-Shirts, coffee cups, socks (NO Demon Toes here!) A note on Katrina’s digital art… I’ve opened a separate Etsy shop for strictly digital art, pictures of wood carvings, often layered on interesting backgrounds. I found a great Print on Demand Drop Shipper to make many wonderful, all-over-print clothing and accessories… But, they didn’t do greeting cards. I found another producer that did and after signing up they added face mask covers…Oh Boy! I have a few ordered for us, they aren’t here yet, will post pictures when they are. But the reason, is the season, I am posting this…In honor of today, April 20th a.k.a. 420… I just listed 2 variations of masks. Unfortunately, the company doesn’t have a mock-up of a person wearing it. So…if you buy one…SEND PICTURES! Our digital store isn’t linked here, so I will do the product link to our 420 wood carving, links to the masks are there. I give up. All day trying to get everything linked. Nothing has worked. My friends, I must apologize. I have known since the beginning of my social media (started with Pinterest) that I shouldn’t only post products, but to share a bit of the other aspects of life we enjoy. I got a little focused on how we are going to survive the drought of no shows! While doing research on how to increase Instagram engagement I was reminded of that…they also said I should be doing 5-7 posts a day…and here I was so proud of myself for doing one almost every day! Ah well… So, to share a bit of what we’ve been doing in between the cutting and carving… As some of the previous posts showed you us building our new storage building, I’ll brag about that! I helped a bit more but Coop did most of the work himself as I got busy doing other stuff. We did have a young man who likes heights come over and help put the roof on. We now have a place to store his wood, the display flats, completed stock and other miscellany. One side allows us to back up to load/unload (the caveat being until I fix the water flow from above and level out the soil, we get stuck after rains…I have pictures to prove it…wanna see?) The step side is next to the carving studio so it is quicker and easier for him to go get the next board. He built a rack system to stack his boards. It works nicely!
