Stockholm Week 8: Quality Family Time
This week was full of rest and exploration. My family came to Stockholm last week and they left on Saturday. For the rest of their stay, we visited many more places that I know and don’t know.
** Some of the top restaurants of this week that I recommend are Noburu (Östermalm) and IPEN (Hornstull)
3/4 Mon: Paradox Museum
I took my family to Katarina Lift, which allowed us to see the whole city view of Stockholm.
Tumblr media
View from the top
We took a little adventure afterward by not taking the same way back but going over the bridge. It turned out to be the same place where I went on the Crime Fiction field trip last Wednesday! I had no idea that these two locations were in such proximity. Monteliusvägen was actually one of the places I was going to take my family, so we toured around the area since we were there already.
Tumblr media
Katarina Church! We did not go inside because there was a funeral
The main attraction today was the Paradox Museum. It was near the T-Centralen area. It’s a secret between us but we got lost on the way there… The logo was on top of the subway sign, on the second floor, so we naturally thought that we had to go up; we wandered around in the random buildings and elevators for a little too long. At last, we found out that the museum was located in the subway station.
We FINALLY entered the museum and enjoyed the paradox surrounding us.
Try to see if you can spot the paradox in the following pictures:

Paradox museum is my favorite museum!
3/5 Tue: National Museum
Tuesday's museum was the national museum which has thousands of artworks. We weren’t planning on staying there for more than two hours but ended up leaving after three hours of thorough examination.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
While touring the museum, I finally found what type of art I like. I especially like the paintings with a focus on nature, especially flowers and rivers.
Tumblr media
Still life paintings are my new favorites
I swear I have something with water lilies; I was mesmerized by this painting the moment I saw it. When I read the description afterward, it mentioned Monet’s water lily series, which was my favorite painting back in the National Gallery in London.
Tumblr media
I wonder where this painting takes place
When we took a rest at the cafe on the main floor, I lost the sticker (the form of the ticket). I had stuck it on the back of my hand at first but later moved it to my clothes. This was not a good decision as it was gone before I knew it. Throughout fika time, I looked around everywhere but failed to spot it. Thankfully, I found it in the corner when I was about to leave the cafe.
Before leaving the museum, we strolled around the sculpture garden. It was beautiful!
Tumblr media
The lighting on the sculptures was perfect
For dinner, we visited Noburu sushi in Östermalm. Everything was affordable and of excellent quality!!! It’s very close to DIS, so I will definitely visit again soon :)
Tumblr media
Plus, the miso soup is in the self-serve bar!
3/6 Wed: Royal Palace
Guess what? We went to Gamla Stan again (hehe). But! We went to visit the Royal Palace, not to go on endless walks as usual.
We unfortunately missed the change of guards by a matter of minutes. To remedy(?) the disappointment, we entered the Royal Palace. We looked around the Royal Apartments, the Treasury, and the Tre Kronor Museum with the general ticket.
These are some of my favorite pictures from the palace:

The sunlight shining through the windows onto the sculptures captured my eyes
It was such a sunny day with breezes here and there, so we couldn’t resist going around the streets in Gamla Stan as well. As I predicted, my mom LOVED everything about Gamla Stan (the colors, architecture, shops, etc.).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
little moments of happiness ˙ᵕ˙
After shopping at the souvenir shops, I took them to Mariatorgets to let my family experience Stockholm-vibe treasure hunting in second-hand stores. My mom found some gems in Stockholm Stadsmission and I found a cute teddy bear skirt in Myrorna.
My family tried their first MAX for dinner and loved it!
3/7 Thu: Public Library + City Hall
I trusted my dad too much. He led us to the National Library, but the actual library we wanted to go to was the Stockholm Public Library.
Tumblr media
I instantly realized why it was so famous—the interior was beautiful
The sun was out again! Thus we leisurely walked along the water by the city hall.
Tumblr media
My brother and I at the City Hall. We made people laugh hehe
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I could NOT open my eyes because of the sun
I had been craving gelato for a month (I have all the top gelato places in Stockholm saved in Google Maps) and headed to one nearby. Despite the thirty-minute journey, I failed to find the place. I think that they only open during the summer. I refused to give up and led my family to another gelato place near our apartment, but it was also temporarily closed (this was what I got for trusting Google Maps)... I took it as God’s words and refrained from further events based on luck (i.e. TooGoodToGo). We bought some bread at ICA and returned to our Airbnb.
We only walked around 10,000 steps that day but we were exhausted for some reason. This unfortunately? resulted in a 3-hour nap that made us decide to stay in Airbnb for the rest of the day.
3/8 Fri: T-Centralen
My family’s last shopping opportunity in Stockholm took place in T-Centralen. We went to an Italian restaurant, Carl’s Deli, which was located in a food court. I couldn’t resist the 4.8-star rating and it was indeed worth the wait.
My mom loved COS and ARKIVET, which are two clothing stores with very different atmospheres. It was my first time in Arkivet and I think it had the best quality out of all the second-hand clothes I’ve been to.
After dinner, it was time for me to say goodbye to my family once again.
It was such a relaxing and memorable family vacation!
3/9 Sat: Lectures
I spent the entire day catching up on my online Reactions class. I watched 8+ lectures and worked on the homework for the upcoming week. This resulted in a record number of 214 steps the entire day (compared to the average of 11,000 steps over the last 7 days). My sole route of the day was from my bed to my desk.
3/10 Sun: Essays
I thought the midterm season was over, but I guess not. I have 2 essay midterms this upcoming week, one 4-page essay in the Crime Fiction course and three 2.5-page essays in the TV Film course. Therefore, all my time today was devoted to reviewing outlines and adding final touches to the essays.
When I got sick of writing essays, I cleaned our bathroom, went grocery shopping, and cooked dinner on top of meal prep for tomorrow. Cleaning the entire bathroom was another level of refreshment
Tumblr media
This kimchi fried cabbage+rice was the BEST meal I cooked during my chef career in Stockholm!!!
This concludes my first travel week in Stockholm. I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did!
Thank you for reading this week’s post :)

I visited Stockholm recently and oh, I just adored it. The changing of the guard got me off guard (lol) at the Tre Kronor castle, but hey the guard in question was a hot young woman so it wasn’t a bad time (I’m also a pacifist who despite that drools over hot women in uniform). The museum that’s inside the castle that has a bunch of cool historical clothing worn by royals, Livrustkammaren, is amazing. Many of clothes are actually very historically significant and have been stored SO WELL. Like the outfit Gustav the third was assasinated? Yeah that’s there. The cloth in which Gustav II Adolf’s heart was held in his by his wife? Yeah there with the original 300+ year old blood stains. Queen Kristina’s coronation cape, there. I could go on and on but man that museum was amazing.
I'm glad you had a good time! I visited back in 2015 for Carl Philip and Sofia's wedding. We were just there for a long weekend and obviously had a lot of other things going on so we didn't manage to go to any of the castles or anything but I hope to go back again some time and see everything properly. I've seen a few documentaries looking at how they manage everything in Sweden and they really are incredibly good at conserving historical pieces. Even just the modern dresses are all perfectly preserved in long boxes (so they can't be folded) with acid free tissue paper lining (to stop damage to the fabric). They have warehouses in secret locations full of priceless items, all perfectly labelled and categorised. They said in the recent documentary that they have records of everything that was ordered in the past so if they want to upholster a chair they can look up the precise manufacturer in Italy in the 19th century and know everything about it.

Tre kronor
No shit. Tur han sa det, alla satt just och funderade på vem den där långa killen med en blixt på trunken va. - Jimmie Wixström, inside trekronor
TRANSALTION:
The first day when the NHL-players was with three crowns it started with everyone standing up infront of the group and introducing them selfs.
Name, Their original club and present club
It got a bit funny when Norries trophy nominee Viktor Hedman got up and introduced him self..
-Hi, my name is Viktor Hedman , from Modo but now playing for Tampa bay
No shit, how fortunate he said that, because everyone was sitting there wondering who that tall guy with the lightning on his bag was. - Jimmie Wixström, Inside three crowns

i know you absolutely went off about different skaters’ muscle developments, but what’s up with john klingberg’s legs?? they remind me of horse legs and they frighten me
I knew I wasn’t going to want to google image search that late at night, and I was right. I do have an answer, though.
John Klingberg is a D-man.
John Klingberg is dehydrated after practice.
Here are John Klingberg’s legs, via Inside Tre Kronor.
Tumblr media
[John Klingberg’s thighs, like a bunch of bananas stuffed under his skin, and completely flat calves.]
So this is a good one, because I’d thought about including a section on this.  I was talking about two approaches to skating for forwards. Skating backwards is a different and frankly fucked up looking sort of thing.
You have to balance on one leg and use the other leg to reach out to the side and sweep behind you. To stay stable, you have to hold a one-legged squat on that leg. The result is all D-men have very developed quads, not so much from their stride but from holding themselves upright.
youtube
The whole look of his legs is that the photo was taken after practice in April, at the end of the season; Klingberg was dry and low on body fat and tense from practice and flexing for a photo. Here’s a hydrated D-man:
Tumblr media
[Michal Kempný on a pool floatie. He has a generous quantity of thigh.]
Still no calves though:
Tumblr media
They don’t have any particular reason to develop them, so it’s luck of the draw whether guys naturally have curves there.

"du anar inte hur mycket det betyder för mig när du berättar om hur ni fightar där ute, krisse. " there's a proud hug coming for kristoffer's sweaty body, andrew having come by the locker room to check up on the guys. most of them have hit the showers and headed home, but last pucker standing is kristoffer, andrew wanting to take a moment to show his captain side to his teammate and lover, now second in command. " i really wish i could see you all out there, live, because i'm so proud. "
Tumblr media
kristoffer sinks into his lover’s arms. the pride that andrew emits seem to radiate straight into kris’ body, & so he melts into the wide arms that wrap around him. he can not get enough of those safe arms & the shoulders that are always there for him. he leans his face into his captain’s chest & bathes in the warmth that andrew is giving him. his own body is chilly, his sweat getting cold as he has finally gotten a chance to sit down in the locker room & talk things through with the coach & mattie. he feels small, worn out & cold, but he too proud.
when he had first heard he was going to be second in command when andrew was gone, he couldn’t believe the honor. many years ago this is what it had felt like, being accepted into shl, & being accepted into tre kronor. now, a team trusted him enough not only to be a part of them, but lead them. he had never felt taller than now. he felt as if there was power inside of him unlike what he had felt before; a new, exciting feeling.
even now, wrapped in the warm arms of the original captain, a man so much bigger than him, kristoffer could feel that power. the responsibility rested heavy on his shoulders, but rather than dragging him down it was lifting him up. the title was a stepping stone underneath his feet, & it brought him up towards the skies. he sighs happily.
“ vi saknar dig. “ kristoffer spoke, & despite the intimacy of melting into his lover’s arms, he held that slightly formal tone, speaking for the team & not himself. suddenly, the one thing he had been holding back for so long, using we, speaking for his team, it was gone. he took an interview a few days ago & he didn’t secondguess anything he said in it. he could feel that a lot was going on for him; to him, in him.
eventually his tanned arms slide down andrew’s body, shying away from his back & rather tracing down his shoulders & arms, giving a squeeze to the taller’s lower arms. “ ~ men du har lärt oss väl, så vi klarar oss. “ he assures, a wide, bright smile spreading across his features. all of these people knew now the honor that was in their colors, & the soldier spirit that was meant for the fight that was played out in that arena. andrew had spoken about it in his motivational speeches, as well as scoldings, just enough. he had nothing to be worried about, because he had raised them well.
“ i want to get this team a trophy to bring home, so that is what i’m planning to do. “

Gamla Stan
Tumblr media
Gamla Stan
Gamla Stan, the Old Town, is one of the biggest and best saved medieval city centers in Europe, and one of the premier attractions in Stockholm. This is a place in Stockholm which was established in 1252. All of Gamla Stan and the adjoining island of Riddarholmen resemble a living passerby inviting gallery loaded with sights, attractions, eateries, bistros, bars and places to shop. Gamla Stan is likewise prevalent with devotees of handiworks, knick-knacks and trinkets. The thin winding cobblestone boulevards, with their structures in such huge numbers of various shades of gold, give Gamla Stan its novel character. Indeed, even now basement vaults and frescoes from the Middle Ages can be found behind the unmistakable veneers, and on blanketed winter days the locale has a craving for something from a story book.
Gamla Stan – A Paradise on the face of Earth
There are a few lovely churches and museums in Gamla Stan, including Sweden's national house of God Stockholm Cathedral and the Nobel Museum. The biggest of the attractions in the locale is the Royal Palace, one of the biggest royal residences on the planet with more than 600 rooms. Notwithstanding the banquet halls, there are a few intriguing museums in the Palace, including the Royal Armory, with illustrious outfits and reinforcement. Västerlånggatan and Österlånggatan are the locale's principle boulevards. The city divider that once encompassed the city kept running inside these lanes along what is presently Prästgatan. Amidst Gamla Stan is Stortorget, the most established square in Stockholm. Stortorget is the main issue from which runs Köpmangatan, the most established road in Stockholm, which was said as ahead of schedule as the fourteenth century. MårtenTrotzigsgränd (MårtenTrotzigs back street) is elusive. It's the tightest back street in Gamla Stan, just 90 centimetres wide at its tightest point. Try not to miss Riddarholmen and the Riddarholmen Church. The congregation is an imperial internment church, and was worked as a Franciscan religious community for the supposed Gray Brother priests in the thirteenth century.
Gamla Stan Beautiful places to visit
The Royal Palace :- As of now lodging the offices of the Royal Family, the Swedish Royal Palace remains on an indistinguishable ground from its forerunner, the medieval Tre Kronor Castle, demolished in a fire in the seventeenth century. There are five museums now open to people in general, demonstrating the Hall of the State, the silver throne of Queen Kristina, the Treasury and that's just the beginning. The palace has a few hundred rooms enriched in the Rococo style. The Change of the Guard is a dynamite service that happens every day, so make certain to make a trip and see that. Swedish Parliament :- The minor island of Helgeandsholmen is home to the Swedish Parliament, the Riksdaghuset, which takes up about portion of the island in its totality. There are free guided voyages through the Parliament that last around 60 minutes. The building is worked in the Neoclassical style, with a Neo-Baroque façade and two Neoclassical wings and extensive Corinthian sections. There is a substantial glass display situated over the lobby, through which guests can watch the continuous parliamentary sessions. Storkyrkan:- The Royal Cathedral of Sweden, the Storkyrkan, is the most established church in Gamla Stan, first worked as a chapel in the twelfth century. It was remade as a basilica after a fire crushed it in the fourteenth century, and has since experienced a few changes and reproductions. The outside is a fine case of the Baroque style, while the insides are done in a Gothic style. The best feature of this excellent cathedral is, without question, the life-measure figure of St George and the Dragon. Theater of Death :- A show displayed by the Royal Armory, the Theater of Death portrays imperial funerals from the sixteenth century to the twentieth century. There are photos of the services following the death of a king, the enhancements and parades of the memorial service. Fairly off the beaten track, visit this display to take in more about the intricate courses of action made after the death of Swedish kings and the relics saved from different funerals. Fic I’ll never write (2/?): tattoo artist AU
The first tattoo Alex gives him is the tre kronor on the inside of his wrist; it’s a reminder of home for Willy, that even while he’s in Canada with Alex, he still has a part of Sweden with him.
The second one is a set of stars that start at his hip and go halfway up his ribs; they took forever to finish because once the endorphins kicked in, Willy got the giggles and every time Alex touched the tattoo gun to his ribs, it set him off again.
The third tattoo is the only one he shares with Alex: strands of DNA on the inside of their forearms; Alex did Willy’s and then a friend of Alex’s copied it exactly onto the same spot on Alex. A reminder of the things they share, that of all the things that tie them together it starts at the most basic of levels.
Alex is the only person that Willy lets tattoo him. But there’s a lot of things that Willy only lets Alex do to him.
aka the AU where Alex is a tattoo artist in Toronto and Willy is his favorite subject, they bang a lot and Willy likes it when Alex ties him up. (Alex is pretty fond of it, too.)

nicky, tutoring
(also an excerpt from another longer piece)
“What took you?” Nicky asks sleepily as Alexcrawls back into bed
“I run into Burky in your kitchen, maybe scar him forlife a little bit,” Alex says, rearranging the covers and thumping thepillow to get it to his liking. “He’ll get over it. Probably.”
“You’re going to Miami for Christmas break, right,Nicky says, and yawns. “Take him with you, he’s bored here. He keepsasking why we go to bed so early, and I think I caught him watching the pornchannel on tv the other night.”
“Fine, okay, I’m already taking Dima and Kuzya,”Alex says. “He can have fun with them.”
“Not too much fun,” Nicky says.
“We have a good time in Moscow,” Alex protests. “Youdon’t remember all the fun I get for us there?”
Nicky just gives him a lookthat Alex can see even in the dark. “The second night you took me outin Moscow, we spent half an hour being chased on foot by a cab driver swinginga steel pipe.”
“But it was a good time, right?” Alex says. “Plus, that’s just normal in Russia. It is what itis.”
“Just don’t lose him by accident,” Nicky says.“I already know you’ll let him drink too much.”
“No one trusts me,” Alex says. “I’m captain. This is most disrespect.”
“I trust you,” Nicky says. “I also know you.Text me updates every day. And seriously, he’s just a baby, and Kuzya and Orlyare… oh God, why am I letting him go with you.”
“Because I’m best,” Alex says, and ends thediscussion by turning off the light.
In the morning, Nicky still has a brooding look on his face andhe keeps giving Alex and Burky (who can’t make eye contact with Alex over hisoatmeal) skeptical looks. Alex magnanimously ignores this (and lets Burky knowhe can come with them for Christmas break, which makes Burky ridiculouslyhappy, which in turn makes Alex feel happy, and also kinda old) and powers through.
Normally they’d all drive separately, but Nicky tells Burkyto ride with him instead of taking his own car. Alex escapes to his own BMW andpresumes Burky is in for a combination lecture/crash course/tutoring sessionfrom Nicky on How To Behave During Trips With Your Awesome Captain And Not Shame The Tre Kronor. He letsNicky back out of the driveway first, and then, because he can’t help it,passes them illegally and Nicky is indeed already looking like he’s in processof a stern talk while Burky claws at the childproof locks. Alex just laughs andzooms by.
He gets to Kettler before them, but he gets caught in a fangauntlet and has to sign fourteen autographs before he can get inside. In the lockerroom. Nicky has Burky backed against his stall with both hands on hisshoulders, talking intently at him in Swedish. Alex can guess the gist, butNicky sees him approaching and deliberately switches to English.
“A vodka shot per toast is a challenge when you are ata dinner with anything over five people or so. The key is to politely excuse yourself to the bathroom and vomit beforedessert, so that you can rally.”
“Backy, he needs to learn his own strategy,” Alex protests, at the same time Burky says indignantly, “I KNOW HOW TO DO SHOTS.”
