Lacus honestly hadn't been expecting René to get him anything, yet receiving the card made him crack a smile that turned into a full chuckle after a moment.

"What's this, trying to act all romantic~?" He teased with a smirk, leaning in to kiss the other's cheek. "Here all I got you were some chocolates, I feel unprepared now~" He teases. He's also lying, those are blood chocolates.

It's purely self-indulgent, the idea that pops into Shinoa's head. She wonders how Yuichiro will react--hoping for the best, but expecting an angry outburst. Regardless, it doesn't stop her from launching into her small performance, eyes widening as if in surprise as she gestures up to him.

"Oh! You've got something on your face, Yuu."

And immediately after, she stands on tip-toe--woe to the short height she's been cursed with--and plants a firm kiss to his cheek. Dropping back down, trying not to think about the warmth in her own cheeks, Shinoa bounces a couple steps back.

"Oh, my bad, I guess it was just my lips."

"Hm?" Close as they all are, it's nevertheless easy to be wary of Shinoa when she begins putting on a show, usually it means she's up to something after all. Hah, as if they all can't tell when she's being genuine or not by now!

He's half tempted to dance out of the way just in case, but this is a new development, something she's never done before, so he decides to wait it out and see what happens.

Needless to say her lips on his cheek were the last thing he'd expected, stumbling back in sheer surprise, a blush dusting his cheeks as he tried to compute that Shinoa had just kissed him— Okay so it was his cheek but it still counted!

"Uhh—" How does one react to this?!

"Why, are you worried the fledgeling will hurt you with it?" Yuu smirked, taunting the older vampire even though he knows full well what a monumentally stupid idea that is. Maybe he just likes having Crowley's attention regardless of how he goes about acquiring it…

He'd heard the word 'fledgeling' being tossed about in regards to himself before and knew that most didn't use it in a very friendly way, so he figured he could try and see if Crowley would react to Yuu calling himself that.

He knows it simply means he's knew to the whole vampire thing, still learning and growing into his own, but he also knows the others use it as an insult because he gets attention from people like Ferid and Crowley, and even Krul sometimes while nobody else does.

He doesn't want to admit that it does make him feel a bit special…

"Hey, do you have time to hang around a little? Ferid was making fun of me while I was trying to practice earlier but he's being a dick about it and not actually teaching me anything. Do you think you could help me out a bit?"

Well, not to get his hopes up, but it's worth a shot. He wouldn't mind training with either Lacus and René or Chess and Horn either if Crowley can't spare the time though. Those four are pretty alright…

Hah, if Mika could only see him now… No doubt he'd be disappointed, but Yuu can't really help wanting to survive either, even if it means being a vampire for the rest of his days.

Growling in frustration, Yuu rounded on the older vampire and glared at him. If only looks could kill… But no, instead he was here, stuck with these absolute jerks pretty much forever now. So much for escaping— Ferid had set them up and played them to perfection. Now Yuu had lost everything, had no idea whether Mika was even alive, and even worse, he was a vampire himself now!

"Shut up!!" It's hardly his fault the damn sword wouldn't cooperate with him! It sat awkwardly in his hand and the whole stinging into his hand to draw power thing was outright creepy! Sure he didn't feel pain as acutely anymore but he'd seen swords put spikes through its wielder's hand before! It's normal he doesn't want to do that!

As a result, his progress was slow and apparently in the eyes of the older vampire-who-lived-to-make-his-life-miserable, quite amusing too…

"Ugh, this isn't going anywhere! I'm not letting the damn thing bite me, no matter what you tell me!" There, take that you stupid vam— Well, no he can't say that anymore, it includes him now… Damn it. Either way, Ferid would have to make do.

Naturally, he's conveniently forgetting that his maker has a tendency to make him pay for comments like that, one way or another…

Why was he asking her such obvious questions? He'd been pouting all day! Ever since that Ferid had dropped the brat on them to watch he'd been taking up so much of Crowley's time and attention that there was hardly any left for her!

Not to mention Crowley was busy in general so it was already rare that she and Horn got to enjoy his company without interruptions, but this—?

“W-Well, I wouldn't mind sharing with Horn but…” She huffed softly, directing a petulant pout his way once more. Damn him for teasing her!!

Kimizuki drops a hand heavily atop Yuu's head, half-affectionate, half-mischievous in messing up his hair (although sometimes Yuu doesn't really need help for that). His expression, however, is the neutral-serious one he typically wears, even when he practically pulls Yuu's head forward to drop a kiss on top of it.

And as if he didn't just do that, he pats Yuu's head and carefully keeps his face still.

"Don't worry, you got the rest of us here to back you up. That's what family does, right?" he says, with a shrug as if it's an obvious fact that doesn't need further mentioning.

Trouble always seemed to follow them, wherever they went. Vampires, horsemen, demons, seraphs… He didn't even understand that last one, whatever had been going on, that had been happening to him and the other orphans beyond the vampires' control of their lives—

That part of his life was thankfully over with now, and he'd chosen to fight, had been near desperate to fight, but now… Well, it certainly wasn't easy, though he'd always known that would be the case. The problem was that he had so much more to lose now.

Their entire team had become his new family, no matter how much he might deny it, and he cares for them as much as he does Mika. That's why things are harder now, he can't be as reckless, he has something to protect now. Ashuramaru would probably laugh at him, but they still understood each other well enough that this wasn't going to cause problems. Besides, the demon didn't want him accessing the seraphic powers anyway, and Yuu could understand why, though likely for entirely different reasons.

"H-Hey—" He hadn't noticed how lost in thought he'd gotten, or even that the other had snuck up on him, but the hand messing up was unmistakable. Yuu was about to push the other off when a new sensation was thrown into the mix, lips brushing the crown of his head so quickly it might as well not have happened— Except that the blush that blooms on his cheeks is very much there, and unmistakable, and oh hell Shinoa was going to tease them so badly for this—

But then the words register and he calms back down, still flustered, but thankful too. He was worrying too much, and couldn't do everything by himself anyway. They all needed each other, that was the way things had been since their team started, no need to change that now.

"Right, thanks."

There was something inordinately satisfying about getting Krul sufficiently worked up that she started making open threats rather than playing the political game with him as was usually the case. Clearly he was doing something right~

"My dearest Krul, I don't know what you mean. Surely you don' think I'm encroaching any more than that you think you hold independent rule over these lands?"

Ah, the beauty of political disputes. Make them personal, then keep the polite veneer and watch them come apart at the seams as fury overcame reason slowly but surely. Eventually, someone would decide that Krul was growing too unstable to manage what she had thusfar.

After all, surely one simply had to look at the choices which had allowed the humans to dredge up a sizeable armed resistance responsible for the deaths of many vampires among other things, losses to their blood supply and even taking in that failure of a vampire who would clearly never be truly loyal no matter how much she catered to him.

The fallout would be glorious~ And Ferid had every intention of being there to watch it happen and then cheerfully wave her goodbye as she was removed from her throne by the other rulers~ One by one do the dominoes fall down.

( @museguided​ ) asked : Horn's lost count of the days that had past since Crowley went off on his own. Not to say that she was too worried about their strong lord but... "Chess-dear," Horn interrupts whatever the other vampire had been saying, clicking her tongue as she pulls out a handkerchief. Instead of offering it to her, she pinches Chess' chin and angles her face up to gently wipe the corner of her lips. "Certainly, someone in your past life has taught you that a lady should keep up with appearances, hm?"  —  Horn & Chess

Things were different without Crowley around, and Chess didn't like it one bit. Upstart vampires thinking they had more leeway to act as they pleased simply because the higher power keeping them in check wasn't around just then, foolish livestock thinking that their master being away meant opportunity—

It's no wonder she's taken to keeping herself busy whenever she can to avoid worrying or overthinking anything. It's difficult, and no doubt she's annoyed Horn plenty with her antics even without really meaning to. Even now she's going off about some thing or other that even she isn't really paying attention to, her mind too focussed on the outside world and wondered where Crowley was, what he was doing, whether he was alright…

"Ah—" Her mouth clicked shut when Horn started fussing over her, a light blush colouring her cheeks ever so briefly even as she all but blatantly leaned into the affection. Well, everyone knew she was a messy eater and it was just the two of them right now, surely it didn't matter?

"Mm, I guess…"

Moments after Horn finishes cleaning her up, Chess leans in and simply hugs the taller woman, deciding to find her comfort in physical touch rather than the ceaseless looping of her thoughts.

"Do yo know when he's coming back…?"

Honestly, the sentiment might have bee admirable once, but Ferid had heard some variable of that particular speech well over a dozen times and so by now his enjoyment of his little favourite's tantrums and emotional crises was running rather dry at the moment.

"They're dead, Mika-chan, you can't fail much worse than that. Or are you going to chivalrously hold up some value you can't put a name to in their honour, even though you're one of us now?"

Ferid probably shouldn't be making these kinds of jabs but he really isn't in the mood to play nice today, and sometimes shoving the knife in deeper is quite simply therapeutic. Bah, no doubt Mika would go crying to his new mistress about it soon. Krul was too soft on him, honestly. Never mind that it irked him just a bit that she'd stolen a pawn out from under him that he'd taken several careful years to groom.

Ah but they were so cute when they were young and so full of hope, so deliciously gullible—

Oh well, there was worth in the long game against much smarter opponents too, the most annoying part of it all was simply the limitation included in his rank more than anything else really. Mika-chan was just taking the brunt of his annoyance just now, poor dear.

"Stop daydreaming and come here. If you want to make yourself useful so badly I might as well brief you on the mission you'll be going on soon, hm?"

"I already told you, I'm fine!" Withdrawn and moody, Akane is one of the few who can usually drag him out of his shell, along with Mika. Yuu loves his new family dearly, but even so there are times he doesn't want to really be around anyone, so he can brood in peace.

Usually when his mood got this dark everyone sort of knew to steer clear of him, and he'd do his best not to yell at the younger kids who didn't really understand why there were days he didn't want to be around anyone for a bit. He'd figured Mika and Akane kept the younger ones busy those days, because normally no one came to bother him, but…

Well, Akane was right there and refusing to leave. He shoots her a baleful glare but can't really manage to stay mad at her for long, slumping down and letting himself fall backwards onto the pavement finally, having thought he'd be left alone if he went outside— no dice.

"I dunno, I'm just frustrated I guess…"

He huffed softly in mock annoyance at the other's words, knowing full well they were meant with good intention and a bit of light teasing. He just hadn't particularly wanted to be found is all…

It was all just so frustrating! Nothing was worse than seeing the vampires at work and realising his own inability to do anything. Only children were allowed here, and their only purpose was to serve as blood bags until they grew to an age where the virus could get to them… That's not the kind of end he wants to have!

Even so… Even with that kind of conviction, the vampires were much stronger than them and everyone said there was very little left outside the walls of Sanguinem, that safety could only be achieved by obeying the vampires… Of course he's frustrated! There's no way he'd just sit tight and accept that with a smile on his face while they drained him dry.

"Ugh, fine fine so you found me, now what? Are you going to scold me for leaving, Mika?" He griped grumpily, squinting at the other from his spot at the top of some crumbling steps that didn't actually lead anywhere. "Or do you want to help me practice?"

Sure, maybe trying to practice fighting without anyone to help or teach him, and with the risk of the vampires finding and punishing him, wasn't exactly a good idea but he was going to go crazy if he didn't do at least something to fight back in this inescapable situation—

"I can't just sit around and do nothing…"

Yuu wanted to pretend he'd heard her sneak up on him as he usually did, but… Well, his reaction really gave him away sufficiently that there would be no pretending. She was already laughing as he jerked and proceeded to turn— In the wrong direction initially of course.

He couldn't be mad at her or any of the younger kids though… He'd been here long enough that he'd stopped resenting everything and everyone, instead choosing to protect them. Mika had been right in that aspect at least.

"Why you— I'll get you back for this!" He play-shouted at the young girl as he turned to her and proceeded to chase her through the house, laughing and delighting in her own joy. They deserved to have some fun every once in a while after all.

That still didn't keep the heavy feeling of foreboding out of his chest though…

The moment the young man spotted the vampire rolling his eyes, all his defensive barriers came straight back up. So what if he was Crowley's prisoner until further notice? That didn't mean he'd just play the good, obedient Livestock for him! He'd spent years as nothing more than a blood source, bleeding until he was dizzy for years back in Sanguinem. He never wanted to go back.

"Shut up!" He shouted instead, body tense with helpless hatred and a good dose of defiance. He wouldn't be able to get away on his own, sadly he's well aware of it. Not even Ashuramaru would be enough to help him survive a vampire of Crowley's calibre… Chess or Horn he could probably evade if he got lucky, but not both at once either. And before anyone could come for him… If anyone would be coming in the first place.

Sure, he was part of the demon squad, having the weapon that he did, and he didn't think his own team would want to abandon him, but Guren still called the shots over his team, and Guren wasn't even the one calling all the shots either… And even if they did decide to come rescue him, did he really want them to risk their lives?

Of course not.

He sagged in his bonds with a dejected sigh, still glaring balefully up at the vampires who had taken him captive. Why was he still alive, anyway?
