It's a wide-eyed dead stare that's akin to a rabid animal ensared in a trap. His veins pulse in that thick neck, straining against the chains that bind him to the metal chair until the drug lord grows slack as Two-Face approaches.

A bit of blood trickled out from the mouth slot on his mask due to a split lip from an injury that wouldn't heal. He hadn't fed in a while, so the deity juice just wasn't there for rapid regeneration. Not that it's bothering the king pin in the slightest, listening to the gangster bark some of threat.

It only causes his cocky attitude to flourish, crudely spreading his legs as Two-Face snuffed his cigarette out right in Fool's jugular notch. He grunts, wincing slightly and crinkled his nose from the acrid scent, quickly rebounding with an elated sigh.

"Gracias cabrón, I had an itch there."

The drug lord goaded, eyes still glaring up into the other man even as the gun goes off, and there's a surge of pain that surges through the nerves in his thigh.

"F..fuck, careful there. This ain't nothing but foreplay and I wouldn't want you cheating on your man chingado."

oh my gosh sOOO It started with me coming up with some past relationship stuff for Scar! Because ange and I have agreed that Scar has relationship experience, while Grian, pointedly, does not. (because extra drama for the situation on Hermitcraft! Grian doesn’t know if his understanding of love is skewed and wrong!) (spoilers: it’s not)

I thought it would be funny if Scar once got a guy’s number and later on got a booty call but did not...realize it was a booty call. The guy messaged him “I’m lonely...come keep me company?<3” and Scar immediately thought oh no!! he must need comfort and homemade cookies!

He’s halfway out the door when Cub tells him to have fun on his hook-up and Scar scoffs like “It’s not like that, Cub, my god!” 

... it was indeed like that.

And listen. The guy is nice enough but he sort of just expected the hot guy he met on mcci to come over and kiss him senseless and now he’s...in his kitchen. baking. and it’s very endearing but!!! oh my god.

So he calls his friend on his comm, hushed in his room like “I can’t kick him out, he’s baking!” meanwhile she’s laughing and mocking him for somehow finding a problem in a cute guy making cookies for him like hello? huge win? She jokes to give him HER number, but ultimately tells her friend to just let him down easy.

Well, unfortunately for them... vex hearing. Scar overhears the whole thing and hoooo boy is he embarrassed now. When the guy comes out of his room, Scar is already packing up, saying something came up, sorry!

But he can’t help but throw in a “...you can give your friend my number” as he leaves just to have a mic drop moment pfffff-

ANYWAY what does this have to do with Grian and Scar being idiots???

Well back in Boatem, Scar gets an incREDIBLY similar message from Grian one night: I’m lonely. Come over?

And Scar is rushing to get his shoes on when he has to stop and think: oh god is this a booty call?

Surely not. No, no, Grian and him are just friends! But like...what if it is? What if he embarrasses himself again? 

Ultimately he decides it would be even MORE embarrassing to assume it is and be wrong than it would be to show up ready to comfort again.

So he heads over. And Grian answers the door in his pajamas: a short-sleeved button up (Grian normally wears long sleeves and oh my gosh the freckles are on his arms too) and most importantly: just the shortest little pajama shorts.

Scar about short-circuits. (pun intended)

Now here’s the thing. It wasn’t a booty call. And despite his flusterment, Scar still doesn’t assume it to be! He is a perfect gentleman! He eventually invites Grian over to his place (it’s bigger and cozier) so he can make cookies! And he gives Grian his overcoat as they walk over since it’s a little chilly.

And listen. The sight of Grian all dressed down like this? with Scar’s jacket on? with Jellie curled up in his lap? sitting in his kitchen while Scar bakes and rambles about nothing and everything?

Scar is down so bad. So darn smitten.

Also they absolutely fall asleep cuddled up together on Scar’s bed. But you know.

okay! i can give you some 'cause i think about them... a lot.

-otto feels completely comfortable about being himself around adrian. even if otto despises his old self for being 'weak', i cant help but think he still retains a few of the meeker qualities he displayed back then.

-their friendship must have started while they were both employed at tricorp. assuming otto was as timid as he was working under osborn, i think adrian managing to get someone like pre-accident octavius to warm up to him is impressive.

-just looking at adrian, you can assume he might get cold easily. otto wears a large trenchcoat, so its also safe to assume that adrian might borrow it when he wants to. not only that...but otto seems a bit warm and cuddly-looking even without the trenchcoat, so... ^^''

-when theyre not doing supervillain things, they like to play board games and watch nature documentaries together, though adrian tends to fall asleep watching them. LOL

what do u think darrys actual headspace was when all the socs went to college and he had to dropout or couldnt really afford what they had anyways? im always thinking about how he had to straddle both worlds and how much that affected him.

WELL. if we have seen my account ever i am very much of the opinion that him going off to college, against all odds and disadvantages that greasers have to go through, and then having to drop out midway through, is imo a ton more devastating for him as a character than not getting to go at all — i guess in that case it’d probably be a ton easier for him to let go of the “soc life” he lived (or pretended to live) bc he’d probably just start working immediately out of graduation and that’d kinda be that. he never got a taste of the college life anyway, he worked hard but never got the chance to get out, a greaser is all he’ll ever be no matter how much he deluded himself in high school. bc most greasers don’t get out, the cycle of poverty and abuse (for most greasers, not necessarily darry) continues generation after generation

BUT. the idea of him working part time throughout high school, making connections w the socs to move on up and faking his way through both worlds, working his ass of at getting good grades and being the best on the football team to get scholarships, and his parents having their own careers & slowly saving up what they can to send him to a community college or in the city/city adjacent and not Terribly expensive like socs get to go to is SO intriguing to me. bc. he GOT OUT. he got out of the cycle that greasers simply don’t ever ever break, and he got out. like he was finally actually OUT. he finally got a taste of what it feels like to work and work and work and for it to FINALLY pay off.. just for his life to be completely flipped upside down & for it to be taken away all over again, out of circumstances he couldn’t even control. he can’t just work harder and work himself out of his parents dying. he wanted out and he GOT out, but tbh at the end of the day no matter how much he wanted out of greaser hood, his brothers come first & he’d never have lived with himself if he didn’t do all he could to keep his family together, even if it meant giving up what he’s worked for for his entire life (in terms of headspace though, during the dropout itself idk if he’d be so concerned with the soc/greaser issue as he would be that. yk his literal parents just died lol.)

& in terms of straddling both lives, you are so right, esp in high school!! particularly bc i kinda see darry as a conformist?? like he doesn’t really wanna Stand Out, he just wants to get by, he wants to work hard and take pride in what he does yk. i think as much as he was football captain and boy of the year and was super popular and “ran the school” so to speak though, he’d sort of always deep down feel like he’s on the outside looking in bc. he IS. he isn’t like the socs and he never will be. i think post-book, him coming to terms with & being okay with that (“i was born a greaser, so grease is all that ill get” “take pride in the greaser name” etc) would be major in terms of self compassion & forgiveness lol

Alex deserved better!!!!!!

In the Hand of the Goddess sets up this really interesting arc where it is pretty damn clear that Alex is being mind controlled. He almost kills Alanna during their sparring session, and unless I'm misremembering her ember stone shows Roger's magic, which seems pretty cut and dried to me! There wouldn't be much else reason for Roger's magic to be around, and Roger is known for influencing and controlling the minds of others! And yet there is never a single moment of concern for Alex. He's just loyal to Roger, as far as Alanna and the others are concerned, and that's never a cause for concern.

And then come the last two books all hints of that seem to be forgotten? Alex is just obsessively loyal to Roger and wants to prove that he's better than Alanna, and that's all. And it's so much less interesting! He's never even shown to have had any motivation to become an asshole! Just one scene, one, where Alex implies that Roger has promised to deal more fairly with hill country (which later books clearly show us is historically disadvantaged and treated like shit), would have been better than this.

I remember during our book group, we talked about how Alex in Lioness Rampant acted more like Roger in the earlier books than Roger particularly did, and posited how intriguing a version where Roger's contingency plan on his death was leaping into Alex's mind and taking him over to plan getting his body back, only his body came back carrying some immortal being (probably bringing back the Ysandir from the first book) and that being why "Roger"'s goals went from "rule Tortall" to "shake it to pieces because [file not found]."

There are just so many things that could have been done with Alex! Very sad that none of them happened, but delighted that the fandom deals with him in interesting ways.

Zhongli’s lover is a Pokémon fan and her favorite Pokémon are all Dragon types. So she buys games and collects merchandise of her favorites. How do you think Zhongli would feel about seeing more Pokémon merch than Rex Lapis merch 👀

I feel he would be respectful of his lover’s hobbies but probably feel a bit insecure about the devotion to plushies is greater than to him 🥺. But to reader, Zhongli will always be the #1 dragon in her heart and in her life ❤️.

(I feel Zhongli would love Pokémon associated with Geo like Groudon and Rhyperior but also Dragon Pokémon like Rayquaza and elegant ones like Mienshao and maybe Pokémon that resembles other Genshin characters like Bombirdier (Shenhe/Xianyun) and Suicune (Ganyu))

I think he'd be super supportive of course, and I agree on the slight pang of jealousy he might feel - though he wouldn't express it for fear of coming off as too clingy. And hey, if you can't beat em, join em! Zhongli would totally ask to introduce him to the world of Pokémon, and he'd hold onto every word and commit things to memory like type advantages and different evolution methods and such.

When you're done raving, he might have a new understanding of why you're so attached to your favorite plushies! He'd buy some of his own as well~ side note: he'd be so dang good at competitive play if you're into that as well!

BIG AGREE on the last paragraph! Always saw Rayquaza (mega especially), Mienshao, Primal Groudon and also Gholdengo as very Zhongli. Ooh and imagine him seeing Pokémon similar to his friends and going "Oh that one looks like Ganyu :] and Ogerpon's masks remind me of Xiao :]"

The thing that sends me from "yeah ok fun game" to "I MUST KNOW MORE" in regards to Cult of the Lamb is the fucking names.

Like - Leshy, thats a slavic forest deity. You might recognize the name from a type of monster in the Witcher franchise. His name tends to have something to do with the forest, and he can be depicted as many types of animals, most commonly a goat; ad wikipedia tells me he is "often characterized by a desire to conceal his face and avoid making eye contact with others".

Bishop Leshy: forest biome. depicted with antlers. eyes hidden by bandages.

Heqet is an egyptian fertility goddess, represented by a frog. She is associated with the annual flooding of the nile, which was vital to ancient egyptian agriculture.

Bishop Heket: swamp biome. Frog. Mouth/throat covered, which yes means "speak no evil" but cmon that's also "eats no food", since she is aso the Horsewoman of Famine. No nile flooding? No food. Heket? She of Hunger.

Even Clauneck has folkloric basis: he's a demon said to be able "to give wealth, and to take it away". In the game, he's responsible for your fortunes.

I can find some concepts that might be related to Kudaii and Chemach - khuda means god in persian. Kudan is a "prophecy beast" in japanese urban legend. (EDIT: as pointed out by @cuddlingdragons, Kudaai is a fire spirit who is considered an originator of blacksmithing). Meanwhile, a shem is what animates a golem in jewish folklore - see Chemach's followers. (Terry Pratchett also spells it chem, which I mention because there's an arguable influnce there: five Horsepersons, one of Kaos/Chaos.)

The various minibosses are pretty much all named after demons and the like, specifically from the Ars Goetia? Amdusias. Agares. Baalzebub. Barbatos.

Helob is a male Shelob from Tolkien. Rakshasa is an Indian demon. Even Narinder is a variant of Narendra, a sikh name combining "man" and "god". I'm not far enough to know if that's important but I'm gonna go ahead and assume it is.

truth be told, i haven't worked out that part in complete detail yet.

however, i originally thought that after hogwarts, val might work as an auror in the ministry for a while and garreth would have multiple side jobs while starting his apothecary business.

as for marriage and children, i feel like they would eventually have them (c'mon he's a weasley iykyk 🤪) and i think that they'd get married in their late 20s.

at some point, i think that they'd reside somewhere far from the blacks but somewhere near the weasleys.

also, i'm sensing A LOT of travelling for these two: (1) for val's work & (2) garreth discovering new ingredients for his potions. although, when they find the right place for them, they sure will be settling there. when that happens, val would love to have a nice and cozy cafe next to garreth's potions shop.

Ive made a couple general changes to the story (made sordward and shielbert relevant, gave stronger direction to rose, gave marnie a personality) but Alot of the weird solisverse shenanigans stem from one guy. my fucked up son victor scalibur

very basically: victor at some point becomes Aware of The Narrative and the fact that the world is a story. and alongside that revelation he also gains the ability to see peoples roles in the story and their fates. including his own! which at the time were “hero” + “doomed”. which you can imagine is not a very FUN thing to suddenly be aware of. he was already emotionally detached before this but now hes REALLY emotionally Gone. this world is fake, therefore it is meaningless, therefore he doesnt need to care about anything or anyone in it

he devises a plan to subvert his doomed fate: transfer his fate onto someone else by luring them into becoming the hero of the story instead of him. and who else is better to throw under the bus than his little fiction-obsessed sister gloria! (who, at the time, was classified as a background character) so victor asks gloria if she wants to tag along on his journey. even hands the gym challenge invite over to her. what a nice brother! totally not a weird switchup from how he was before! dont worry about it!

he continues on being a Fake Ass Bitch with nobody Really noticing except for bede (who has. psychic hatterene-style vibe sensing capabilities) (just smile and nod) until the final confrontation with eternatus where he drops the act completely and reveals that, yes, he doesnt actually give a shit about anyone and he was just being surface level nice to them for his own purposes. so everyone kinda hates him for that!

oh yeah also an important thing. his plan Does Not Work. he does succeed in making gloria the new hero of the story but the fate doesnt transfer alongside the role. and all he does is end up psuedo-ejecting himself from the story, and his doomed fate still catches up to him anyway in the form of total social rejection! idiot! dumbass!

theres definitely more to it but [does a sick kickflip] those probably warrant their own posts and if I were to attempt to stuff them all here we would be here for another 20 or so paragraphs
